Preferred Solution: Outook Express web links do not work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

if you go to tool/options in outlook, click on the tab "other" there you will find a tick box which allows you to enable or disable the "empty deleted items" message.if you want to set the send/receive to automatic then in the same options page click on the tab "mail setup". once again there is a check box which allows this action to take place when outlook is opened.harpur

I am building up a new computer and I want to be able to transfer my Favorites, my Address Book entires, and a number of EMails that I have in my current computer to my new computer.

I am using IE 6.0 and OE 6.0.

I know I can save my emails on a Zip Disc or a CD as .eml files and view them that way but I want to actually transfer them from my current computer to my new computer.

Can someone let me know what I need to to in order to transfer my Favorites, my Address Book entires, and my EMails? I need pretty complete guidance such as where to find the items on my current computer and where to put the items once I get them onto my new computer.

Thanks a bunch for the assistance.

Answer:Need Internet Explorer & Outook Express Help.

go to "Documents and Settings" directory then into your User Directory and you will see the Favorites directory and then just copy your old favorites into this directory.

I hope this helps.

I've been having problems with Outlook Express crashing and/or having problems that keep giving me an error message about the log file being too big or something. I keep my sent file folder and deleted file folder relatively empty. My inbox has less than 20 items in it, none of them huge. Can anyone tell me how and where I can fix this? If there is no fix, if I download a new copy of Outlook Express over the old one, will my address book reamin in tact? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Outook Express - log file problem

Try some maintenance first and see if this helps to clear it up.
Close all programs except Outlook Express, including any antivirus programs you may have running.

First in OE, Tools>Options>Maintenance, uncheck the option for: Compact messages in the background and leave it unchecked from now on.

File>Folder>Compact all Folders. Leave the computer alone until it has completed compacting.

Let us know if this resolves the problem or not.

Is Internet Explorer set as your default browser?
To set Internet Explorer to be the default Internet Browser, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Internet or Internet Options icon, and then click Programs.
Make sure that the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default check box is selected, click Apply, and then click OK.
Open Internet Explorer, and then click Yes when you receive the following prompt:
Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to make it the default?
Links in e-mail messages should then open Internet Explorer.

If that doesn't work:
Tools at the top of this page. Choose Internet Options.
In Options, Advanced tab.
At the bottom, RESET Internet Explorer Settings. (I've used this method several times, it has always worked for me)

Resetting IE will change your home page to MSN, but you can easily change it back to whatever you currently use.

After installing Windows XP SP2, the internet links in Outlook Express emails no longer work. When I click on links, nothing happens, so I have to copy and paste them into IE. I do this so frequently that I need to get the links working in OE. I have tried turning off the firewall, popup blocking with no change. I have also enabled images and other content in emails in Outlook Express, and I'm using "Internet Zone". What do I need to do to get internet links working again in Outlook Express?

Web links do not work in Outlook Express

Running Windows XP with service pack 3 and Internet Explorer 8. As far as I can tell, no other web browser is or has been on this system. IE8 is the default browser.

Links look like plain text with no visible indication that it is a link (no underline or color variation from the rest of the text).

Given all I've done, is there anything short of system recovery that might fix this? Here's a list of what I've done so far:

These instructions produced no change:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q177054/

These instructions produced no change:
1) Open Internet Explorer 7
2) From the menu bar, select Tools > Options
3) In the Internet Options dialog box that opens, click on the Advanced tab
4) Near the bottom, in the section that says “Reset Internet Explorer settings”, click the Reset… button.Click to expand...

The following produced no change:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
5. Repeat, substituting each of these additional DLLs:

Links from all sources don't work any more.  New tabs open it just tries to load data.  Nothing comes of it.
Also, a lot of applications are saying that I'm not connected to the internet, but that of course is not true as I can navigate if I type in some addressed directly in to the URL bar.
I have Win 7 serv 1 running on a PC.
I have Kaspersky and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Kaspersky says I have 3 threats: w8hook.dll , backup files 2.zip , remote access Host , all legal software that it doesn't like.  Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me what app they belong to, so I can't uninstall and I don't want to "Fix" them as they may be for an app I need.

P.S. I ran combo fix by accident first.

Hi Everyone,My parents are using outlook express with win xP.  Now for the second time in recent months they are unable to click on and access links within an e-mail. Ie: if someone sends an e-mail and says look at this website,  http://www.lookhere.comWhen they click on it it does nothing, if  they copy and paste the link into a browser it works fine.  I tried it myself on their e-mail and computer.  It only happens on their computer, If I access their e-mail on my computer it will work fine.  I took off all of the security on their computer and tried it and it did not work. I ran a virus scan and it showed nothing.  The only fix I have is to  format the hard drive and re install everything.  Anyone have any ideas or see that I am missing somthing.  The links have worked in the past.

I am running Windows XP.I am unable to folow links to web pages from emails; I either get nothing or perhaps Windows explorer will open up in the MSIMM directory. I do NOT have MS Internet explorer as my default broswer. Can I hope to access web pages in firefox from OE links?and has anyone any experience of IE 7; I looked at the Beta but could not see the security padlock when I went to my bank account so dumped it. If it has reliable security I may be tempted to revert.PeterC

Installing "service pack 2" has altered some of your email security settings.

Do This:
Open Outlook Express 6.0.
Click Tools, Options, Security tab.
Uncheck:
"Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".
Uncheck:
"Block images and other external content in HTML email"
Click Apply

I run Windows 98, 2nd Edition.

All of a sudden, I cannot open links in the body of web pages or in my e-mail. As an example, I just registred into this forum and received an e-mail with instructions on how to complete the registration by double clicking on the address included in the e-mail. When I attempted to do this the address bar at the top of the page when blank and it then hung. So the only way I could complete the registration was to type in the address, press enter and it responded.

This happens on all e-mails that I receive.

When I'm in IE, I get the same problem, whenever I attempt to open a link, the address bar goes blank and then just doesn't do anything else, unless I type in the address if I have it.

Sometimes, when I try to open a link, a blank page appears that has a address at the top that reads 'about:blank-Microsoft Interner Explorer. At other times, the border of the window opens, but the body is clear and it shows the same 'about:blank, etc...'

At other times when I've attempted to open a link, I get the link open with a blank page and at the bottom there is amessage that reads, 'open, but with errors'.

This all seems to have started when my Norton Anti-Virus 2002 became corrupted. It would not complete Live Update, just stall.

I deleted Norton (including all references that I could find in the registry) and then installed AVG, which installed OK and seems to do the scans and updates without any problem.

I do not have fire... Read more

Answer:Cannot open links in IE6 & Outlook Express

Thanks, yes I did install the SP1 update and lower the security with no change. I'm inclined to agree that I might have to 'clean 'er up!'. Just didn't want to go through the hassle if I could avoid it.

I do believe Norton is the problem, anyway to get a list of everything Norton 2002 puts in the registry?

I downloaded several updates at Microsoft and one was an update to Outlook express. After downloads nothing works as it did. Outlook loads real slow, but main problem is I can not log into some of my web sites, and some links will not work when I click on them. Some log ins will work like Yahoo mail and some links will work, seems like the ones that are secure are the ones that will not work. I always get the notice page can not display and it tells me to refresh or let MS detect my settings, neither option will work though. I am building a new web page and unable to log on to work on it. Any suggestions. Have gone to internet options security and tried various settings but nothing works. Thanks The Grey Ghost. I am running Windows 98 SE

My husband has an HP Pavillion running Windows ME. The computer is not that old and we've already had to reformat it twice for several problems. The most recent problem is that he can't click on links from his email.(Well, he can click...they just won't take him anywhere.) I've gone through all the settings in Outlook Express and in IE, and I didn't see anything that was configured differently than mine. I also checked the Knowledge Base, but didn't find anything. I also had him clean up his temporary internet files, etc...nothing worked. He said the problem started when he downloaded the latest version of Messenger. So we uninstalled it, but no luck. However, we did get an error box that said Explorer has caused an error in RPCRT4.DLL. I checked the Knowledge Base again, but the only article I found didn't apply to the exact problem we're having. He is using IE 6. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am running Xp and using Ie 6 on a new computer...some time ago something got changed on the settings so that my html links do not open in Outlook Express. I can click on an e-mail addy in it and it will open but a www link will not do anything nor will the link buttons that I get with some of my subscribed mail. I know I can copy the shortcut and get in that way with the straight links but that does not work with say a button that has an embedded link. I would like this to work proper.....I am not sure why it all of a sudden stopped working. I have already read similiar posts and told IE to make sure it is the default etc, but I have not other browser installed on this computer anyways. Nothing I have tried has worked yet. I am going to try uninstalling outlook and reinstalling right now...but I am sure that will not fix it...please help me!

OK I JSUT CAME BACK TO EDIT THIS POST AFTER UNINSTALLING AND REINSTALLING OUTLOOK EXPRESS AND STILL NO LUCK!...I DID NOT REBOOT THOUGH....FYI!

On the outside chance you may not know, OE in my XP will not open a new window if there is already an open internet explorer window but rather will replace the open window with the link I click on. Thus, it looks like nothing happens. Perhaps this is happening to you.

On the otherhand, if I don't already have an IE window open, OE will open one. Is this the problem you are trying to address?

Dear All,I would be grateful for any input regarding my problem.Over the last few weeks, I have noticed that when I have an e-mail on Outlook Express, I am unable to successfully open up any links that are within the e-mail. What happens when I click on a link (web address), an internet explorer window opens - but it's blank and just has an hour-glass over it. I can wait for hours, and nothing will happen. However, when I click on the "stop" sign and then "refresh" the page - I am able to obtain the link. This problem is more a nuisance than a major problem. However, I experience a somewhat more inconvenient problem on some websites where I click on a link and smaller window opens up but nothing appears in it (forever!). The problem with the smaller window, is that it doesn't display a "stop" or "refresh" icon - so I am unable visualise the intended link whatsoever. One example website is click here I have installed all the latest Windows Updates and have the most up to date Java software. I have tried disablng my Norton firewall and attempting to restore to an earlier "system restore" point with no success. Is anyone out there able to help?fyi, I have an AMD 3200+ XP, 1GB RAM computer. Many thanks.Ying

Hi

I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help.

Links in email on Outlook Express won't work. All I get is a blank page with 'connecting' at the top and that's it. I have looks through threads on here, but to be honest, I could do with someone talking me through suggestions.

Also, on every website, when I click on the 'Contact Us' link, I get the message:

Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed.

Well, I've checked the usual areas to make sure that outlook express is the default client, and it is.

Could this be a problem with IE7? The links used to work, but I believe my computer automatically updated to IE7 and I think that's where these problems may lie.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Somehow any links that I receive in emails have stopped working. If I click on them I am taken to Internet Explorer but nothing is put in the adress field.  If the link is a full web adress then I can copy and paste it and it will work, but more usually the link is just a "click here" type message, and then I am really  stuck!  What have I done? Hi,

I have succesfully killed IE 6 and also my links from Outlook Express.

Problem Description
1.) Clicking on URL links in Outlook Express does nothing.
2.) Many links in IE 6 bring up the error message "The specified module could not be found." (This may or may not be due to some problem with Java...ie. clicking on the "My Yahoo" and "Fifa WOlrd Cup" shortcuts that now appear in IE 6 always bring this error.
3.) Shortcut Links in IE 6 Favourites don't work.

How this may have occurred.
1.) I installed the Beta of IE 7
2.) OE Links stopped working..I then unistalled it...but unfortunately had explorer 7 running at the time....now I get "The specified module could not be found." error on a large number of sites...(but not all!)

Troubleshooting steps tried: (All failed)
1.) Reinstalling IE 7 beta....will not allow me to complete this install.
2.) Running IE fix.
3.) Trialling the command "regsvr32 msjava.dll" in the run console brought a failed error....I downloaded msjava.dll and copied it to my WIndows System and System 32 directories....."regsvr32 msjava.dll" now no longer bnrings an error from the Start..Run console...but IE 6 is still in trouble.
4.) Downloaded and installed Java.
5.) Running sfc /scannow
6.) Running Registry Mechanic
7.)Installing Microsoft Windows Script 5.6
8.) Reinstalling Windows XP Sp2.

In short I have searched and hunted for every possible fix listed anywhere I can find...and I ... Read more

Answer:Broken Outlook Express Links and IE 6

In addition to the aforementioned problems - Windows Media Player and the Palm Desktop application are also crashing on startup.

They both bring the error:

"...(Win Media Player)... or ...(Palm Desktop )........has encountered a problem and needs to close."

(In the Palm Desktop case - reinstalling and deleting from registry etc. has done nothing to help)

I am beginning to think there is something seriosuly wrong with my WIndows installation.

Is it best for me just to do a repair of Windows XP?
But can I do this when I have Windows XP Sp2 installed....but my CD is only XP Home original?
Is reformatting my only option? Thanks.
