Solved: Web browsers (both IE 8 and Firefox) won't load or load extremely slow

Question: Solved: Web browsers (both IE 8 and Firefox) won't load or load extremely slow

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Preferred Solution: Solved: Web browsers (both IE 8 and Firefox) won't load or load extremely slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

Answer:Firefox won't load a site (Other browsers will)

Hi there,

Try flushing the DNS and see if that would help. Open up the command prompt and type in the following command = "ipconfig /flushdns". Once the DNS is flushed, reboot your computer and then try accessing the site once again.

Also, try accessing the site from another computer and see if the site works on another computer.

Firefox sits at "connecting" and eventually times out. Chrome and IE work fine.

Steps I've taken:

- Disabled Windows Firewall
- Made sure Firefox was fully excepted from my Avast firewall
- Uninstalled/Reinstalled
- Restarted PC
- Made sure Firefox was set to direct connect in the options

No dice.

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

My laptop has the following specs, and it's about a year old, running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.

2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo P8600

My desktop is 5 and a half years old, running Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit.

2.5GB RAM (PC3200)
3.4GHZ Pentium IV

Yet, when it comes to loading Windows, my desktop is blowing it out of the water.

My laptop takes 2 and a half minutes to get to the desktop (and a a large majority of that time is spent before I even log in!), compared to only about a minute for my desktop. Here is some additional information.

1) Malwarebytes and Norton Security Suite come up perfectly clean. Highly doubt it's spyware-related.
2) I updated all of the drivers on the laptop.
3) When it comes to loading all of the stuff on the desktop, the desktop has more tasks to load on the system tray than the laptop does, but at least the laptop is fine loading AFTER logging in.

Programs launched when logging into desktop:

-Norton Security Suite
-ATI Catalyst Control Center
-CMedia Xear 3D Sound Configuration
-HP Digital Imaging Monitor
-Local Internet Connection Icon
-Volume Icon

Programs launched when logging into laptop:
-Norton Security Suite
-Wireless Icon
-Volume Icon
-Power Icon

So, there's hardly any stress on the laptop to load the programs.

4) I ran chkdsk /f on the machine, and here's the log I dug out from the Event Viewer.

As stated in the topic title, my webpages load extremely low. I've tried 3 browsers: IE, Chrome and Firefox, but none of them seem to make any difference.

My laptop is a Dell XPS 15 with a Intel Centrino wireless-n 1030, and according to my laptop, fully updated.

My main pc works perfectly, so it has probably nothing to do with my internet connection. And downloading on my laptop works also perfectly with a speed of 2 megabytes per second, but yet pages load slow...

First I thought it was my Bitdefender Antivirus, but after removing it and installing Kaspersky (due to its high rating), the problem persists.

I hope someone can solve my problem, as I find it really annoying and time-consuming.

If additional information should be neccesary I will gladly post it.

Thanks in Advance,

PS: Sorry for my inadequate command of English

Try this, open up command prompt(cmd)on run box for XP or type cmd in Vista/Win 7 system on your search programs and files box. Type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter. Try launching your Firefox browser and then check the difference. There will be a space between g and /.

Earlier today, my PC went from being perfectly fine to being extremely slow. I had a hunch that it may have been a virus or some serious malware so I tried to open up Malware and Ad-aware but everything was 'not responding.'

I ended up powering off via holding button. When I tried to load up again, the PC loaded to the blue welcome screen, but from there, it just hanged. i could open task manager but I was unable to open file > new task or anything.

I was able to go into safemode and load up Malware and Ad-aware. I searched on the internet from my laptop about what could be causing this. I found that a virus named Nimda could be a culprit. I found a fix for it so I cancelled my scans and rebooted. This time, I let it sit there. Everything had loaded properly...35min later! From here, everything was very slow.

I tried to open certain things like start menu or my computer, and it ended up taking 2-3min for each action.

Also, task manager (even opening task manager took 4min alone) showed very low CPU usage (about 1-2%) and about 20% physical memory usage.

My computer specs:
Win7 x64
Intel Core2 E7200
4 gigs of RAM
ATI HD4870

So here I am, back in safemode, attempting to run the scans (using Malware bytes + ad-aware + spybot) on 2 of my harddrives.

If this does not work, does anyone have any advice or insight?

Thanks, I appreciate it!

So I made my computer about 6 months ago, and just recently I've noticed that whenever I try to open a folder, it slows and takes at least 15 seconds (which is longer than my boot time). This also happens when I attempt to attach an item through a browser, and the browser freezes until the folder opens. I've tried running sfc /scannow, cleaned up the disk, and am looking for a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows. Any solutions out there?

First I'd like to say that I've read help on some problems in these forums, and am always shocked at the actual help that you guys give out (you know, most forums dont actually help anyone). So, now I come here with my own problem, that I have yet to find.

My flash videos are loading extremely slow. I have a 180kb/s connection (not sure what the actual feed SHOULD be, this is what I have noticed the max is), which is extremely slow by todays standards, but a few months ago the exact same videos loaded perfectly fine for me to view non-stop (for instance, any youtube video set at 360p). The videos seem to load for a couple seconds then pause, then buffer, then repeat the steps again. It is getting extremely annoying to have to watch bits and pieces of videos instead of one continuous film.

I've found the TCP optimizer on here dealing with another issue. I have also found a batch file for winsock fix. Both seem to help the issue for a few hours, then the problem begins to crop up again. I have tried running firefox with only the essential add-ons enabled (java, etc). I also am an avid user of CCleaner, and use that at least weekly to keep my laptop 'cobweb' free. I even have disabled all anti-virus and firewalls in hopes that, that was the problem.

The problem has persisted in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox, so I'm starting to believe that its not just a browser issue. I also run uTorrent, and that mysteriously gets an incredibly... Read more

Answer:flash videos load extremely slow

Hello Evan, I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.
The first order of business is to immediately turn your anti-virus and firewall back ON. These shouldn't be causing any problems, and it is highly unsafe to have them turned off. You should actually run your antivirus program a.s.a.p. to make sure there isn't any malware slowing your computer down. Run windows update and install all available updates, and restart to complete them. It may seem too simple, but you'd be suprised how often a lapse in these updates can cause problems with all kinds of things. Also, have you checked to see if you have the most up-to date flash player? Try uninstalling and re-installing it.

IE takes a very long time to load home page, 20 to 30 minutes. Once loaded it works fine. Norton Anti-virus was also turned off when I started the computer and I couldn't get it to work. Actions taken: 1. Tried to reload Norton AV with new definitions via internet connection. This failed and program would not work. My subscription ends in 15 days but should still be valid. 2. Uninstalled Norton.3. Ran Spybot in SAFE mode. No problems found. 4. Ran Ccleaner.5. Ran Ad-Aware. No problems found. 6. Loaded AVG, ran AVG. No problems found. 7. Downloaded Firefox. Works fine as a browser.8. Ran McAfee Stinger. No problems found. What am I to do? I would really like to get IE working again and I think I might have some malware. I don't care about fixing Norton, will use AVG from now on. Thanks for looking at this. Hello everyone,
I did not know where to post about this problem I have been having, No matter what webbrowser I use, they are all slow to load and crash! I have tried scanning for viruses, spyware, spamware and malware, but nothing shows up except cookies! I do not know what is causing this problem with all of my webbrowsers!
It first started on Internet Explorer a couple of years ago. So I decided to change to FireFox then that started to slow down and then crash on me also, but not as often as the Internet Explorer. Then I tried Google Chrome. Then that started to slow down and crash, but not as often as the Internet Explorer. It happens everytime I load up or click on a Yahoo.como page or any of the Yahoo sites: Yahoo Fantasy Sports, Yahoo Autos, etc..
At first I thought it was because I had too many tabs or windows open at one time. But that was not the cause. I tried clearing the WEbbrowsers' cauche and clearing browsing history, that only helped for about a halff hour to about a hour! I even tried clearing the computer's cache, being careful of what files got cleared, Same results! I even tried cearing old files, again being careful of what got cleared. Only helped for a little bit. I even doing a web search on this very subject, but found too many differing opinions on what causes this to happen. I tried some of the recommendations, as I listed above, but nothing has worked to prevnt this from happening. The only other things that I can think of ar... Read more

I have long had problems with slow starting up of the PC. I have tried removing virtually all start up programmes, running Scans, defrag etc. The main problem has been when loading the browser. It effects IE and Firefox. The hard disc light flashes away sometimes for half an hour before the browser loads and you can hear it whirring very slowly. Even when the internet browser loads, it initially runs so slowly that it often malfunctions and needs re-starting which leads to further problems as the ' do you want to report the problem to microsoft message is being generated in the background at a snail's pace.

Probably a rather unclear description of the problem , but I am happy to clarify if anyone has an idea as this really drives me mad. I always have to allow at least half an hour before I can expect to get online. I had convinced myself it was IE, so downloaded Firefox. I think, Firefox may be slightly better, but the problem is still there.

Answer:Browsers so slow to load up on start up.

What is your maintenance program for your system? Please name the programs you use so we can assist you further

I would suggest for starters you download and run CCleaner to clear out you temporary internet files.

Please, if you are not familiar with the software read the review thoroughly and do not use the registry cleaner option of the program.

I have experienced a significant slow-down in my various browsers' ability to load pages over the past few months.
I use IE9 and Firefox18.  Most of the slow-down seems to be with loading ads and other content external to the particular website I am visiting (YouTube embedded video player, etc.).
On some websites, once they load, I experience freezing when scrolling with my mouse wheel -- text that blurs across the screen, etc.  This even happens on the site.
I'm running a 3 year-old HP desktop, wireless cable Internet connection, and have not had this issue to this extent until recently.  I installed BOINC 6 weeks ago, but the slow browser problem pre-dates that software by at least a month or more.
I've run MBAM scans - nothing found.  Online speed tests - throughput is fine.
Any suggestions on how to proceed in addressing this issue would be greatly appreciated!

I've used Firefox on my two PCs (XP) and two laptops (XP and Win7) for years. I've noticed more recently that all of them seem to have problems with loading up web pages compared to how older versions of FF were working.

I've tried using IE and Opera as well and they seem to be slow as well. All computers are running either AVG or Avast antivirus software.

If I try to open something, I can look down in the left side of the lower task bar and it will either say, "waiting for .........." or "transferring from....... " Regardless of which it is, I endure a slow painful page load up.

I've noticed this when traveling with my laptops so I know that its not just a problem with my home's internet and/or router. Some websites are worse than others because of bandwidth (I assume!)

Is it just that the web is being bombarded with so many advertisements, cookies and spyware that browsers are forced to "work harder" resulting in slower web page loading?

I've got little to no patience and I'm very sensitive to how my computers are running. In other words, I notice things like this and even my wife has noticed slower web page loading.

I forgot to mention that both laptops have recently been reformatted so they are fresh.

Answer:Web browsers slow to load up webpages

It is not ads. Cause you can hide them/disable them. This would be due to the connection and the number of people on it. Simple as that. Do you have WPA2 Security with a strong 16 character password that would take any brute force program at least a couple of days to crack? Or do you have some simple password that can be guessed by just about anyone who knows even a small detail about you?

What is your ISP speed as reported by SpeedTest.Net?

What extenstions do you have running?

What other programs do you have running?

How much RAM is in use? How many CPU Cycles?

Everything comes into effect. Sorry to inform you but no PC will stay as fast as it was the very first day you bought it. PC Hardware wears down. It starts to slow down. It is a fact of the industry. Even on a fresh install you can have more wear and tear on your hard drive causing read times to be longer.

The computer I have here at work was working fine until I updated to the latest version of Firefox. It was painfully slow to open but once it was open it did relatively well. I decided I'd rather go back to the old version so I system restored back to before I did the update.. Well I dont know if a setting got changed or what but all browsers (including Chrome) are very slow to open and load most pages. This computer is on a network with 5 others and its the only one with problems. I should note it pings and speedtests just like all the others... its got me completely baffled.

2. Please advise if your computer came pre installed with an Anti Virus Program.
If so what AV program?
How did you remove it from your system?

Hi all, I have had this problem for about a week now, but it has gradually worsened.
As the title states, my internet is extremely slow, and I cannot load certain content heavy pages such as, etc.
My laptop (Xp) is wireless, I have tried direct connection to the router to no avail.
My dad's desktop (Xp) is wired, and also has the same problem.
My mum's laptop (Vista) is wireless but works absolutely fine (posting this off of her's)
I am running Zone Alarm, have done multiple scans with AVG, Ad Aware and Spybot with no improvement.
I've tried using open dns, and flushing my dns.
I've cleaned up my temp files and cache.
I should also mention, downloads are completely fine.
It's JUST the browser.
At one point I had two instances of rundll32.exe active at once, but only one seems to be running now.
In safe mode, guess what! Everything is dandy, so it must be program related, and I'm guessing a problem to do with something within Xp.
I saw on one forum someone reporting that there was an unknown process checked in msconfig and some dlls in the system32 directory with a similar name, upon deletion of them all, the problem was resolved, alas I cannot see anything like this.
After searching ALL over the internet and seeing many people with the same problem, I have found no resolution, someone please help me out!
Anything would be much appreciated, I'm losing it over this one.. hope the info is specific enough for ... Read more

Having a problem that just started today. Internet Explorer -- in fact any new window using the Internet -- now takes an extremely long time to load, as much as 2 minutes.

I'm using XP. Outlook e-mail works fine and does not have the long load time. This is just occurring with Internet Explorer. Eventually, my homepage will load (I've even tried changing homepages, and the long load time still occurs).

Also, once I'm in Internet Explorer -- after about two minutes -- when I attempt to open another IE window, the same thing happens -- again, a load time for the contents of the new window of about 2 minutes.

This is a new problem that only began occurring this morning. I can't really identify or think of anything I did differently that might cause this new aggravation.

Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have a new laptop I got for Christmas, an Intel Core i5 which is supposed to be a fast machine. It runs on Windows 8.1. It had the free McAfee virus checker trial on it until that expired and I loaded Avast about three weeks ago. Since then it's been like treacle. It boots up quickly but the browsers now take ages to load! I had Virgin check our broadband speed and they said it was fine, though I did a speed check and was only getting 8 mb. I read that Avast could slow down the browsers so I disabled it from both Firefox and IE but they still take a while to load and only work if I restart the laptop which is a damn nuisance.

What could be the problem? Is it Avast or Windows 8.1? My money's on Avast but it's a good virus checker

Did you uninstall McAfee? Download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool Use it to uninstall McAfee. Restart the system and see if thing speedup.

Answer:Firefox slow to load on first try

How many addons are installed and enabled? Any new ones?

Do you have Firefox set to open a single blank tab when you start, or are you using the session manager that reopens all the tabs from your last browsing session?

Do you have any other programs running when you open Firefox?

Do you have the setting to 'clear history when Firefox closes' enabled in Tools > Options > Privacy?

When you close Firefox, does it minimize to the system tray (this is an option enabled by using an addon) or does it close properly (no firefox.exe in Task Manager)?

I'm running Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Home Edition.

It used to load OK, although it was never sparklingly fast. Lately it has slowed dramatically and takes a minute or sometimes 2 to load up. I've tried clearing the cache, but it made no difference. Once it is loaded it is OK.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions about what might be the problem.

I use Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop, and have had problems getting Firefox to load. I was advised on another forum to uninstall Firefox, reinstall to Firefox (Firefox 25) and make sure all the administrator boxes were unchecked. I've done this, but it still takes Firefox at least a minute to come up after I connect to the internet and click on the Firefox icon. If I right click on Troubleshoot Compatibilities, I get a long message that has something to do with Games Legacy Hangs and a lot of + signs. Of course, I cannot get this message to come now to paste into this email. Any suggestions? Thanks.

there is also a guide to speed up firefox manually here

you can also change/increase the amount of memory/ram that firefox can use....this would be based on how much memory you have installed

Welcome back to TSF

Have you cleared the cache?

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the ?Temporary Files? and uncheck the box for ?Scan drives for file matching? if it?s checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

After my computer has been off all night, my first boot up in the morning always leads to both FF and WLM taking an inordinately long time to load. However after the first time, subsequent load ups are normal. Strangely, when I return in the evening and boot up again, everything's fine....despite the length of switch off being practically the same as the overnights time. Anyone any ideas?

I am trying to access the following XML feed:

But Firefox says it cannot load the live bookmark...

The top of the feed says this:

As of May 2nd, 2005 the User-Agent field of all HTTP-Headers must be set. Any string will do.

What do I do here?

Also, Thunderbird takes an incredibly long time to load up with the little status bar on the bottom. I compact folders and delete stuff regularly but it doesn't matter. It lags forever before the messages in the Inbox appear. Any solution to this?

Answer:Firefox web brower slow to load

In Firefox, go to Tools> Add-ons and disable all your extensions. Restart Firefox
and see if it loads faster. If it does, the re-enable each extension
(one at a time)
and restart Firefox each time until you find the extension causing the problem.

I have a strange issue where every webpage (whether via Firefox 3.5.2 or IE8) will always load slower on my Windows 7 system as compared to my Macbook Pro.

Both computers are wirelessly connected. I've ran speedtests on both systems, and both come out the same -
5.75 Mb/s (down)
.95 Mb/s (up)
22ms latency

But, for some reason, on the Windows 7 system, it always takes longer to open up webpages - usually by about 1-2 seconds, and sometimes by 5-7 seconds.

On the Macbook, some images and text will almost immediately appear, then fill in very quickly. On the Windows 7 system, I'll have a blank screen for a second or two, and then the images and text fill in slowly. If I were to venture a guess, on average, I think the Windows 7 machine renders pages at 80% the overall speed as the Macbook Pro.

Any idea what it could be? (I tried changing the pipelining values in Firefox and the initialpaint.delay value to 0, but it makes no difference.)

I use as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided?
I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer:firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.
Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here
to tidy up your Firefox profile.

Greetings gurus. Internet trouble. As the title says, my mail will not load in any browser. Page load is very slow and most things time out at least once. AT&T ran line tests on DSL and everything was clean. Not sure how this could be. Speedtest was run many times and no probs. I even did some gaming which strains everything with no problems. I'm open to the possibility of a virus. Ran Avira and MBAM but haven't gone further. Strangely the wife's Facebook games are a no-go. Also, wireless devices work fine. Heeeeelp!

Posting this from my work machine as I am having issues from home. This started recently that when I open a new Firefox window, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before I see anything load for the initial or homepage (Yahoo). If I click the X to stop the load and type in a specific URL or select one from my favorites, it loads almost immediately. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox to see if that would fix it, but no joy. When I did that, I did NOT delete my user information. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, then I went to post a question here, it takes 20-30 seconds and then I get the following error message:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

I'm having problems with both Firefox and Chrome. Both are often, but not always, very slow to load websites. With Firefox I get a spinning green circle. With Chrome I get a spinning circle, too. I've no clue what the problem with Chrome is. It can hang and take so long to load a site that I have to close and start over. With Firefox it can be bad but not as bad as Chrome can be.
I don't know but suspect that, with Firefox, there's a lot of media content that causes it to load slowly. E.g., with newssites there are often multiple videos that play automatically and ads.
Any advice on how to address this issue?
Thank you.

Well, It was a few days ago where my firefox started lagging, acting really slow and stuff. Eventually, it was hard for pages to even load, and many sites took minutes to load. I managed to get on google, (seems to be the only site that works), downloaded Spybot, and scanned. I found some regular files that were harmless, and one possible hijacker. I just sent them away, and the possible hijacker was stored safely by Spybot. Then, I tried to download hijackthis, the official site wouldn't load, and i went to Cnet to download it, I got a 0 byte file that says it's not a compatible system32 file (or something). Then I downloaded from majorgeeks, I unzipped the file, and it says theres an error (really sorry, I can't remember most of these messages). I restarted in safe mode, and I got the little bubble that said that Windows Security Center is unable to work, Click this bubble to fix this problem. I click it, and click fix now. It says that Windows Security Service is unable to start whenever I click it. I haven't gotten any farther than this, I don't know what to do. I can't post a hijackthis log because I can't really work this out.. Any help?

I think this started when I went to a bank website and received a popup asking for an updated email address. I received notification of a new email right after, stating something like thanks for signing up for Scorecard. I tried contacting the company by phone, and they asked for my bank account number. I asked what bank and they couldn't tell me. Nada, you're not getting my bank or bank account number. I contacted my bank and they know nothing about this company and are investigating.
Since then, I've been getting lots of unwanted email from a variety of companies all over the world. Firefox is also slow to load links many times.
I'm using 64-bit version of Windows 10, have 8GB RAM, FF 49.0.2, use gmail.
I tried Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes anti-malware (I have the paid version, that runs all the time in the tray). Didn't find anything wrong, but problem persists.

Some websites, for example: and

do not load in my newly installed IE7.

The error message says:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information

But the same websites load OK in Firefox.

I have fiddled around with the security settings etc., but still no joy.

I did not have such a problem with IE6.

I also use Maxthon Browser from time to time. But since that is based on IE engine, even that will not show some websites.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

The only Firewall that I use is WinPatrol. I clean up Malware once in a while with AdAware SE.

My hard drive clicked/clunked 3-5 times then I received the CrashReporter dialog.
While it was trying to load all other windows and functions would not respond.
I updated, rebooted, scanned drive, defragged and rebooted again. Still not loading.

This is where it gets strange.
All over programs work. It seems to be just browsers functioning incorrectly.

Safari had similar issues.
Chrome clunks and clicks then eventually loads.
IE works first time! I hate IE.

I wondered could it be a firewall conflict? I use zonealarm free.

Im currently running windows xp home edition 2002 sp3 pentium 4, approx 3 ghz. My computer runs/starts normal and as usual when viewing files or playing games. I recently had problems with Jushed.exe and CFPupdate.exe taking 100% cpu and i removed comodo firewall and took care of the java update problem. This probably messed up your firefox profile, which in turn could be why firefox will not load. Read through this link here to set up a new profile to see if that works.

Let us know how it goes ; )

EDIT : Just remembered, before you do that see if it firefox boots up with add-ons disabled, to do this start hold down the shift key while starting Firefox, and see if it runs if it does try disabling add-ons in safe mode then re-enable one at a time until you find the one that is causing the issue, then remove it.

Friday night I ran the online version of nod32. Because it installs an active X component I had to use Internet Explorer. Firefox has been my default browser for years. While running nod32 I was aware something was not quite right because an action that should've opened Firefox opened IE. Afterwards I rebooted and everything seemed to be fine.

This morning Firefox will not open. For an instant an icon appears as it normally does while Firefox is loading but it quickly goes away. Using IE I downloaded another copy of Firefox and installed it with the same result. As a test I downloaded Opera and it runs fine.

Where should I've been looking for some setting that is interfering with Firefox?

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question in but here goes anyway...

I've been having problems accessing certain websites the last week and a half. Prior to this I haven't had any problems accessing the sites. I tried in both firefox and IE and both show a connection time out whenever I try to access the sites. I have cleared my Windows DNS cache and checked my firewalls and I still can't get access to the websites, specifically,, .

I am able to get into but whenever I try to download a file from there it gives me a timeout error. Also when I try to load google by, it takes forever to load up the website.

The only firewall program that I'm running is windows firewall. I have the current Firefox and my antivirus is McAffee but it doesn't contain a firewall. I am able to access all of these sites from other computers (at work) but not at home.

Does anyone have an idea as to what might be happening and can help me?

Thinking something went wrong with the update I uninstalled Firefox, and opened IE to download it again. This is when I realized IE was having the same issue.

To clarify, my wifi connection is fine. Outlook and other web-based programs are working fine. I pinged through Command Prompt, and the results indicate a good connection to the Internet (average response 17ms). Also, dropbox is updating without any problem.

As soon as I am able to load and run TSG SysInfo I will post the results.

Could be a firewall or security suite blocking your browsers. Or may need the following ...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista and 7 and 8.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. [For Windows 8: <Windows Logo> + x - Command Prompt(Admin)]

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

When I run IE I get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - no matter what webpage I am trying to access. I have no trouble with Firefox though. I used to be able to use IE but I am not sure when exactly it stopped working (since I so rarely use it). I have tried downloading the newest version of IE with no success.
I have Comcast internet service, TrendMicro PC-Illin Security software (firewall/virus protection), and am running on an eMachine computer running WinXp Home Edition, Service Pack 2. IE LAN's setting is set to "Automatically detect settings". Any help getting IE to work would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I get mail from this web site (it is an environmental site) so apparently I have been there before, but I always get the "Unable to connect...can't establish a connection..." message. Always, whether I use Firefox or IE. I have tried many times over the last few months - the site cannot be that busy every single time I try to visit it, night or day, can it? I have not had this problem with any other site on the internet. I have run all my security software several times and nothing ever shows up. Could I inadvertently have blocked this web site in either Zone Alarm or AVG? If so, how?

Any suggestions very much appreciated. Thank you, Cheryl

Answer:Solved: Neither Firefox or IE will load

That site works fine for me using Opera and Firefox so the problems must be with a setting on your computer.

One possibility is that the URL for has somehow got added to your Hosts file, assuming you have one. If you use Spybot you definitely will have a Hosts file and you can check by doing a 'Find Files' search for 'hosts'. Mine is 68KB and I used Wordpad to open it.

If you find a Hosts file I'm afraid you will have to scroll down it and look for the URL and, if you find it, delete it, reboot and try to access the site again. I know this has worked at least once for someone that had problems accessing only one site, so it might just help you as well.

If it doesn't help it will have eliminated one possibility and 'bumped' your post back to the top!

I recently uninstalled and wiped all my firefox settings after installing a addon call ghostborwser (or something similar) it has a icon of Casper the Friendly ghost to represent it. It Removed all my colour and images form ALL websites visited it was suposed to be (I assumed anyways) like a 'bosskey to hide the browser/make it invisible, after the colour faded from my world I uninstalled the Addon and restarted firefox and the colour and images were still gone so I uninstalled firefox and erased all of my settings out of the Docs setting folder (Exept for backing up my bookmarks)and used ccleaner to purge the rgistery of firefox enteies to start fresh.

I then reinstlled firefox and tried loading it I got the

"firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Message restarted and got the same I rebooted and still the same message
I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times still and still get:

firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any ideas?

Recently, I've installed the Windows Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. May or may not be the problem, but ever since, Firefox has not worked properly. It will not load pages and results in the "Network Timeout" error page. What is strange is that it does load my school email account which is held server side at the university. I am currently on a VPN network, but have had no problems with firefox in the past. Also, IE works properly, but Firefox refuses to load anything but my server side email account. I do not have a firewall on my computer and I have turned off windows firewall to no avail.

I have already deleted my profile for firefox and uninstalled/reinstalled and it did not help at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Solved: Websites no longer load in IE or Firefox

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please print these instructions for reference, as you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from Here or Here.

Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection. The tool will download other files while running.

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).
Please post the C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log into this thread.

Howdy Ya'll Being on dialup, I've done all I can to make using the internet as efficient as possible. I use Firefox browser and have installed the AdBlock Plus add on. That works really well, BTW. Additionally, I've installed a 3rd party addon called Preloader from Sourceforge. Once a page is loaded, revisiting that page is real snappy.

What this post is all about is every time I reboot my machine, the first time I visit any site its like I've never been there before. Typical dialup.. Slow step by step loading of even the smallest graphic. Just wonder if there is some setting in FF I've missed that might help this.

Checked cookies in my Firefox profile and there are a ton of them in there.

Thanks... Raybro

Answer:Solved: Firefox page load time

Your "ISP" could be the culprit to slow browsing. I tried several and have settled on "" [] with great satisfaction. I use SeaMonkey as my browser, and it allows use of a proxy, which TOAST accommodates. It makes all the difference in the world! Further, TOAST provides a multi-setting accelerator that really does work. I use "maximum" for sites where graphics display is not important and "very good" when I am downloading pictures, which I do every day.

p.s. No broadband available where I am.

I just downloaded Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6 and I can't get any pages to load PERIOD!

Everything worked fine before I made the upgrade - and I even tried IE, and everything seemed to be working there, so the problem has to be with Firefox.

I'm getting really pissed off. Everytime I install an update with Firefox, I encounter some weird problem.

I even tried uninstalling this and then installing it directly from the homepage, and still the same problem. I can't get any page to load.

As of 5/22/08, my firefox won't completely load. Also, when I click on 'Bookmarks', it won't completely load. When I access 'managing bookmarks', and exit, then 'Bookmarks' will load and show all bookmarks. Also, half the time, Mozilla won't respond at all from my desktop. I have not had any problems prior to a couple of days ago. My wife has, over time, loaded a large number of bookmarks into the computer. Is it possible that I am running out of RAM and need to remove some of those bookmarks? I have 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM. Thanks - hawkeye777

First of all let's check you have no extension issues causing your problems. Start Firefox in Safe Mode (from Start > Programs) and if it loads normally and your bookmark access is trouble free then I'd suggest it was an extension problem. If so, disable all your extensions (while in Safe Mode) and close Firefox. Re-open Firefox normally and enable your extensions 1 or 2 at a time (then close and re-open Firefox) to find the culprit(s).

It won't be a RAM problem but what do you mean by large number of bookmarks? I have over 1500 and no real problems.

I have a very simple web page that automatically updates daily. However, very often when I view it I just get the version that is in my browser cache rather than the latest version from the web. I have to do a manual refresh from the browser to see the latest version. Not a problem for me, but other viewers of the page may not realize they aren't seeing the latest information.

Is there an HTML tag or some such that can be included in the page that will force a refresh and override any old version that the viewer may still have in their browser cache?

Hello guys,
I'm making this thread to share with you this extension, which let you load or save preferences into Mozilla Firefox and Firefox-based browsers.
This extension can be very important when we use mobile devices, because when we use them we can't access to the directory of our Firefox profile.
