Solved: Outlook Connector- remove Hotmail account

Question: Solved: Outlook Connector- remove Hotmail account

I am running Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Prof. I installed Outlook Connector 12.1 and added my hotmail and MSN accounts. Both showed up in my mail folders list and both connected to the web and downloaded just fine.

When I tried to Send/Receive just my hotmail account, it was not listed in the Send/Receive group, so I checked the Email Accounts list. The hotmail account is not listed in my Email Accounts list (tools, Email Accounts, View/change), yet it is showing in the Mail Folders. I can send mail from that account if I hit reply on a received message but not if I try to select that account on a new message. I uninstalled Connector, and removed MSN from the list but I cannot remove hotmail as itís not on the list of accounts. When I try to close the folder (right click, close [email protected]) I get an error saying to use the Email Accounts list to remove it...but itís not on the list.

Any idea how to remove an email account that shows up in the Mail Folders but is not listed as an account in the Email Account list? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Outlook Connector- remove Hotmail account

I_am_psYon,

Welcome to TSG!

Try this:

In Outlook's Account Settings window, go to the Data Files tab and select your Personal Folders and click Open Folder.

In the window that comes up you should see a file named emailid_hotmail.ost. Close Outlook and delete this file.

Reopen Outlook to see if Hotmail account is gone.

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Hotmail Connector unable to connect to Hotmail

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

When Microsoft started the new hotmail, I guess they made it so you have to have a special download in order for it to work with Outlook. Before this, I have used Hotmail in conjunction with Outlook with no problems. When I go to the download center to get the required download, you are required to validate your copy of Outlook. I KNOW that my copy is genuine. But it keeps coming back saying "no Microsoft Office products were found on this PC". Thus, I can't get the download. I need it to use Outlook. How to I get this download to work?

I have been using BT for my emails for years now and never had problems using their yahoo.co.uk for web-mail and outlook 2007 on my computer. Following BT not using yahoo anymore and now just using BT Mail I installed the Hotmail Outlook Connector, so I can use outlook.com as web-email. I created a Mapi account in Outlook and copied all my contacts into it. I also created some additional send/receive e-mail addresses in outlook.com, they are BT sub accounts. They are showing up in both outlook.com and outlook 2007.
The problem I have that outlook.com and outlook 2007 will not send emails.
They either are stuck in the outbox or they come back with the following messages. The first one tells me "not to resend" as the mail is delayed.

Answer:Outlook 2007 not sending mail after installing the Hotmail Outlook Connector

If you have installed Outlook connector then you are not using outlook.com via webmail but are using Outlook 2007 for it. Webmail is through your browser. You should not be having any problems sending via the browser. You can also log into BT using the browser and send.
But coming back to your original problem I'm not sure why you set up a MAPI account or how you did it and the problem may well lie there. Suggest that you delete the hotmail/outlook account in Outlook and start again. You can back up the received emails first. The Outlook.com account should be an Exchange Activesync type.

I have the outlook Hotmail connector installed on my work machine (On outlook 2010), and I also have outlook 2016 (which connects to outlook.com natively) on my home machine.

Both have stopped playing nice with outlook.com in different ways::

outlook 2010 simply wont connect with outlook.com at all -
Outlook 2016 shows my email and calendar from outlook.com but will no longer show my wife's shared calendar.

Both of these installations were working perfectly with no issues prior to the recent outlook.com upgrade.
Has anyone else experiences issues like this?

Answer:Outlook Hotmail Connector 2010 not working after outlook.com upgrade

Hotmail Connector is no longer supported and will only work with the old Outlook.com. After your Outlook.com account has been migrated to the new Office 365 backend, you'll need to re-configure your account and not use Hotmail Connector anymore.

I removed Outlook Hotmail Connector because I considered it bloatware. I don't use Hotmail. I use a hybrid system involving Outlook for my computer and Gmail for my Andriod phone and that is working fine.

After removing Connector, I kept getting a message from Outlook about installing the "upgrade" Hotmail Connector. As I was having the red x problem with graphic images not appearing in my Outlook emails, in despair I allowed it to load. The real fix came through as SP2 after I repaired Windows Update and got it working again.

So, is it bloatware? Is there a downside to removing it? Is it benign enough to just leave it alone? What would you do?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Does you mail account settings on the web allow for you to choose what type of email server you want ie: IMAP or POP and do the setting correspond to what is in the connector program and outlook? There should also be some type of instructions I would think on the hotmail account on how to set it up or on the connector program.

Hmm I'm looking at hotmail right now and it doesn't seem to have any of the above and it's only POP.

Well I got the message to upgrade to the new outlook connector for Outlook 2010
So I clicked install. Outlook never re-started and when I tried to open the program, it crashed and gave me a messaged that some mso *.dll was not installed and outlook would not load, I re-started and the same problem. I did sys restore and now outlook works again but is asking me to do the upgrade to get my Hot mail.
I checked my e-mail on the web and also got a message there, to choose weather or not to let my PC program (ie. Outlook 2010 to control Hot mail account.
Also my cloud does not look the same in my system tray looks like to white clouds instead of the blue.

I down loaded the 2010 32bit new outlook connector but have not installed it yet. I am thinking I may have to un-install the old hot mail outlook connector before I install the new one. Not sure though.
Any thoughts tech guy??

How do MS Office Outlook Hotmail Connector updates (and notifications) work?

When i opened Outlook 2010 on my primary PC a day or two ago a message popped up saying i needed a new version.
I accepted and updated the version - no problems.
From what i found a new version was recently released.

Today I started Outlook 2010 on my Test/Backup PC to update this, and I don't get the "New Version popup".

It seems the Hotmail connector does not get updated with "normal" Windows updates.
I do have MS updates set to notify me of updates, but i choose when to download and install.
All options are checked for recommended, optional, etc.

It looks like Outlook may or may not notify about an update needed.
Secunia PSI (v2) doesn't list the Hotmail connector, so no help there.

I'm guessing i can download the latest version and install it.
I'd really like a reliable way to know when a new version is available and get a notification.

Here's the info for my latest version...
Thanks,
David

Answer:MS Office Outlook Hotmail Connector updates

I found an MS post and the new version available popup in Outlook is the way this update is handled.

On my Test box i don't have an automatic send/receive.
A send/receive is needed to get the New Version message.
I did a manual send/receive and got the New Version message.

Quote:
After several months of beta testing, Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 has officially been released as a replacement for Outlook Connector 12. Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010.
Why use the Outlook Hotmail Connector?

If you have been using Outlook Connector 12.1, you already know that it enables you to manage your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail messages, calendar, and contacts from within Outlook.

Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 introduces several improvements. For example, you might notice after upgrading that the connection to Hotmail is more reliable than before, and issues such as blank messages being synchronized to Outlook have been fixed.
Even better with Outlook 2010

With Outlook Hotmail Connector 14.0 and Outlook 2010, you see these additional benefits:Junk filter settings. Your safe sender, blocked sender, and safe recipient lists are synchronized between Outlook and Hotmail.
Integrated Send/Receive. Send/receive works just as it does for your other Outlook accounts.
Integrated connection status. The Hotmail account status appears in the Outlook status bar.
Rule support for secondary accounts. Rules can be applied to the Hotmail account in Outlook, even if that is not your Outlook primary account.
Synchronize your drafts. The Outlook Drafts folder synchronizes with the Hotmail Drafts folder.

I'm trying to help someone at a remote location about 100 miles from here, by phone. He has MSOffice 2010 installed from an off-the-shelf retail CD on a fresh, clean setup of Windows 7 and wants to use Hotmail with his Outlook 2010. He says he's getting the following message:

"Microsoft Outlook Hotmail connector 64-bit Setup Wizard ended prematurely"

He says there are no code numbers or any other details that help identify a cause or solution.

Everything I've found deal with a Click-to-Run version downloaded from the MS web site and suggests to uninstall that and an MSI-based version to replace it; but, this is an off-the-shelf retail CD.

and a Hotmail Plus email account

In the past I had no problems accessing my multiple hotmail email account in Outlook, with the help of Outlook Connector.

Now I am having lots os Issues, the biggest one is that there are Constant Errors trying to Sync my Hotmail account with Outlook.

When I use Outlook Connector, the Calender willnot sync. Also, once I have made changes to the inbox, ie deleted emails, sometimes they reapear next time I open Outlook.

I called Microsoft last night and they told me I don't need to use Outlook Connector to get my emails, just set up email as http and enter all the settings.

This seems to work ok, but when I send messages, they don't stay in my hotmail sent folder, but go right to my personal folder sent folder. I can live with this. Also the Live Calender is not visible, also not a problem, I don't use it. I use the Outlook Calender.

Problem is, that Outlook tries to install Outlook Connector the next time I open Outlook.

Also, without Outlook Connector, it will not download all the emails in the inbox automatically, unless I click on each one.

Hi Guys, I am having a problem with Hotmail connector. First the data: Windows 7 64bit - Office 2010 32bit, both are up to date, including last social connector update. Linkedin connector works flawlessly but when in the people pane I try to connect to my main hotmail account (the one I use for chat) I get the following error:
"Invalid user name or password"
I guess user name is my hotmail e-mail address and password must be the same as the hotmail password. @least for the linkedin connector it is that way.
I have 12 mail accounts in my outook setup, incluiding 2 hotmail accounts. I am using pop to download all accounts, including the hotmails.

Please any Ideas ????????

Answer:Outlook 2010 Hotmail Social Connector: Invalid user name or password

If you have two hotmail accounts it would seem that the outlook hotmail connector is linked to just one of the hotmail accounts you have set up on outlook. Might be wrong about this but seems logical. I use the connector to get my hotmail to outlook with pop3. However I only have "one" hotmail account associated with outlook. Maybe you could delete one of the hotmail accounts from your outlook and see what happens.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

Deleted old Outlook account and added new account....tried no hotmail this time. Outlook came up great...only 1 calendar!!!!! However nothing syncing with phone. Assume still need hotmail?
All I want to do is have my Outlook contacts and calendar synced with all my devices. Assume this should be very basic as guess all this is on "My Cloud"? Also, should be the minimum if Windows phone has any chance. Appreciate any help.

Answer:remove hotmail account

Check if the account is listed in Options->Email Accounts rather than the left sidebar.
You should also check that he didn't leave an automatic sign in option for Mail, which could explain why his account is synced every time you start the program.

I have a hotmail account i want to use in outlook how do i get outlook to import my hotmail account also is it possible to import my msn messenger contacts into outlook?

Answer:outlook and hotmail account

The free Hotmail account will no longer work with Outlook. If I remember rightly a figure of about £12.00 is required to open yourself up to the biggest Spam-fest in the business.Don't get me wrong, I use Hotmail, but the levels of spam in it's system is huge and their filters only get about 2/3rd of it. You also have to check the spam folder anyway, just to see if anything has been incorrectly assigned.I reckon it's less hastle to leave the lot on line.

Hi Guys,

My wife cannot access her Outlook/Hotmail account, every time she logs in she gets the message "It looks like someone else might be using your account"
we have tried to verify the account and change the password using the on screen instructions however all we get is thrown back to the above message?
I have Googled this and it looks as if there is no easy fix, the one option appears to be we follow link and pay a technician £14.99 to cure the problem.
I am not fussed about the money but I am not sure if the technician is genuine?
Any help would be useful

Thank You

Answer:Cannot get into Outlook/Hotmail account

That option is a scam. Currently, Hotmail/Outlook are having problems, down for many users.

Get the machine checked for spyware/malware, there may be a redirect or similar in use.

I have an outlook account <removed by mod>
i'm not able to login here because of password is incorrect, so finally how to reset it. I'm using window 10 OS.
I need toll free Outlook/Hotmail support number.

Answer:How to get back into my Outlook/Hotmail account?

i have removed the email address as it will provide you with a lot of SPAM
There is no support number , for outlook/hotmail as far as I know, BUT that may have changed now with Windows 8 (when MS first started linking email accounts to PCs for login)
you can goto chat - and MS will assist via Chat service

If you have forgotten the password - goto another Pc that works
Login page for the account
Then click on forgotten password
you then have to either do
a) Enter the mobile number to get a text code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
b) Enter the alternative email address to get a Code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
c) Enter the answers to the security questions

If you cannot do any of these - then there is a form to try and rescover the account
You need to provide a lot of details, and on the three attempts I have tried this to help people, they have an email back saying not enough information and ended up changing to a new email address and never did recover - BUT Thats before this windows 8 and using MS password

so you maybe OK to use Chat line

What country are you in - you may have a support number - not sure it will be toll free
the UK is 0344 800 2400

I told the computer NO I do NOT want to "try" outlook go directly to hotmail when it started showing up upon log in. Well it ignored me and forced it on me anyway. At first it would let me just use that gear thing and tell it to switch back. It KEEPS doing it though? Is there a way to make it NOT automatically force the outlook on me? Something is wrong with it if I use the IE browser to get into my email. It lets me log in then sits there spinning its wheels indefinitely. I figured out to go use a different computer with firefox on it to log in so I could at least clean it out from all the junk but I am fed up now. Am I or am I not going to be aloud to KEEP hotmail. Will I eventually be forced to keep the outlook? I hate to have to do it but if that is the case I need to quick pull all my contacts etc and start using yahoo or something else that actually WORKS and lets me delete crap without opening it first!

Answer:outlook keeps taking over my hotmail account

As I understand it we can continue to use hotmail.com and live.com addresses indefinitely. I suspect that the Hotmail GUI will disappear completely one of these days and we'll be left with the Outlook GUI or one of Microsoft's email clients.

Hi.
I still have a Hotmail account I want to secure better. Right now all I have to do is enter my email address and then approve the login with the authenticator on my phone.
Well jeez.. talking about making it easy to break into my account! If someone knows the code of my phone, all they need to do is look at my iPhone info and they can see my email address. Then, simply enter the email address and approve it and BAM they're in!
At least Gmail asks for a password AND the authenticator code when logging onto an 'unknown' device. Or does it work the same way for Hotmail/Live/Outlook?
I prefer to always log in with my password initially. If I didn't have a password on my PC, they'd very easily be able to log into my Hotmail account, since 'stealing' a phone login code is very, very easy. People will just stand behind you, watch you tap your login and BAM it's game over. Sure, they'd still need to get a hold of my phone, but man, I just hate it that Hotmail switched it around.
You should always have to enter your password first, and an extra code from your phone as an extra.
I'm asking this specifically, because my Gmail has a Hotmail account as backup email address.
Thanks.

Hello,

I have a Microsoft account and I am using it with Windows 10.

I want to use the Windows 10 built in Mail App.

It seem very nice.

I added multiple Gmail and Yahoo accounts without any issue.

But, finally, when I want to add more Hotmail accounts Windows 10 told me to use "Windows Hello" or something like that.

I really don't want that Windows adds ANOTHER USER in my computer, I only want to use MULTIPLE Hotmail/Outlook mails and their contacts and calendar!!!

I am afraid that it will add them as USERS of the computer, I don't want it!!!

PS: I found an half solution, I don't add the Hotmail account as "Outlook" account but as GENERIC INTERNET account. And it works. But I cannot use CONTACT and CALENDARS of it.

I recently boought Office 2003 and I am having some trouble setting Outlook to open my hotmail account. I have perused many forums about this and can find nothing that is comprehensible or useful!

I have created a folder in my Outlook for my Hotmail account, and the Inbox contents have come over but not the folders. It seems a simple request but I can't find a solution.

1. I don't need Outlook Connecter - the account is already created.
2. Microsoft Help is useless, so please don't tell me to go there!
3. If you are going to speak to me of .pst files, please explain what they are, where they are and what to do with them!

I can't find anything in the Outlook menus - am I missing something? I also can't find anything in Hotmail.

PLEASE HELP!!

Hi Guys

I have an old hotmail account so I can use programs such as outlook to view my e-mails which is what I have been doing for many years though Outllook 2002,2003 and now 2007. Everything has been fine up until this week when I started getting a 0x800cccf0 error. I have looked this up on google and it tells me that it happens when you have more than one hotmail account I don't and that is only for outlook 2002. I have attached a jpeg so you can see the error message in full. I don't know if it is a hotmail problem or not my NTL account is working fine. The PW is correct as I can log onto the webmail.

Any Ideas

Hello,

By default, when adding hotmail accounts on Outlook using EAS, the account got added with FULL HOTMAIL NAME:
[email protected]

There was a process by which the left pane of Outlook showed any Name that user wanted.

Now with reconnecting Hotmail account in Outlook (going to Exchange), the same situation of FULL HOTMAIL NAME in the left panel has come up.

The older process (with EAS) does not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

All Windows Live Hotmail accounts can be used with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or with Office Outlook 2003, whether you use a free or paid Windows Live Hotmail account. To use your Windows Live Hotmail account together with Outlook, you must first install the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Windows Live Hotmail.

Hi. I have a similar problem. I don't have a Microsoft account, I don't want one. My Windows 8 E-Mail address is for the E-Mail account on the family webserver, and yet when I get the confirmation E-Mail, it links me to a hotmail/outlook login page.

hotmail/outlook can't process my Windows 8 E-Mail account, how do I get past this aggravating obstacle?

Answer:hotmail/outlook can't process my Windows 8 E-Mail account

When Win 8 asks you to verify your account, it shows you your email address in one box with some of the characters replaced by *s and wants you to type in the email address in its entirety in another box. Once you do that, an email is sent to that address with a code for you to enter to verify.

There shouldn't be any confusion about which email address to enter unless you have 2 different but very similar email addresses.

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

PROBLEM FIXED: Don't know why but Outlook Connector just started working again. Delete this post.
Using XP SP3, Firefox and occasionally IE8.

I have been using Outlook Connector to bring 3 hotmail accounts into Microsoft Outlook 2007 for years. I noticed today that for the last 4-5 hours, Outlook Connector is not connecting with the server.

I completely deleted and re-installed the lastest version of Outlook Connector (which is what I already had) but that still did not work.

I have deleted the 3 hotmail accounts using Outlook with the idea that I would add them again, however, nothing is connecting to the server. Even if it connects to the server, it will NOT accept my password which is the same one I have used for many years (I know . . . bad practice).

I am able to see new messages using Windows Live Mail and Hotmail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Connector not connecting

I am getting the exact thing.
I have one laptop that is working fine, but the other prompts me for a password, one I have been using for years.
I have to enter the password a couple times.
And then I get a message that Outlook Connector is not open.
I have to go to MSN and Hotmail to see my emails.
Did you get any response on this?

I have Outlook 2007. I got a msg I needed to download the latest version of Outlook connector. Originally after doing that, I got a msg that it wasn't installed properly. I wasn't able to expand the hotmail folders. I was able to repair that with a download and can expand my folders. I can send & receive with no errors, but my Inbox isn't populated.

When I choose to Upgrade now, I go through the wizard as directed. Once finished Outlook restarts but I get the same message about upgrading as above. This happens every time.

Recently one of my Hotmail accounts must have been hacked, because when I try to enter it, I get a message "It appears somebody else is already logged on". Have two other accounts and they work fine.

Question is, what can I do to enter this unusable account again. Microsoft detected my attempts to get in and sent me a message that they had locked the account and I need to fill out a form to regain entry. Unfortunately, the type of information they want has not been enough, because I do not remember the e-mail addresses of the last 3 or 4 messages I sent out.
I also do not know the titles of those messages which is what MS wants to verify I am the owner of the account.

Any ideas?
I have tried Googling the name of one of the people I sent an e-mail to, but every one of those services I encountered sooner or later wanted money for his e-mail address. Since I do not know the person's home address or phone number, have no way of contacting them to send me an e-mail to an alternate Hotmail account. Same thing with the other dozen or so contacts in that account.

Since this has happened, I wonder how safe the other Hotmail accounts are and how I can make a backup of the e-mail
addresses of all my contacts on them, so that if something like that happens, I am not "Lost in Space".

Firstly I have been helped previously on here and explained that I am a beginner (still) on the technology of the computer. Firstly, above this message box is a recommended download: TSG SysInfo. - when I clicked to download I had a red security shield warning that it could be hackers and the trouble I am in with the hotmail at the moment I thought I had better 'speak'with you first.

The problem I am having is I tried to log into my email (hotmail) and I received a box that says my account has been blocked maybe due to hackers, they have sent me some sort of 'code' to enable me to unblock account. Unfortunately it was sent to [email protected] I cant remember my password for this account as I have not used it on this PC so therefore cannot retrieve code email

I am running on Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
425 triple-core processor
3GB DDR2 memory
Multi-in-one Digital Media Manager

I believe this information will help. Please again bear in mind that I am PC illiterate and slow too

Thanking you - Regards Joan Smith

hi, recently my hotmail was used to send out spam to a big list of people most of which i dont know. I have the hotmail linked via pop3 to a mozilla account on this computer, so i ran a malware scan and hope one of the techs here can check it over and see if anything stands out. in the meantime i have changed my hotmail passwords on a clean computer so it doesnt happen again.

there is a few programs on this list that may cause concern, i run a web server from time to time which has only local network access and use VNC enterprise to assist various family members, this has WAN access.

i havent had any other problems other than this rogue hotmail hijack so im fairly sure my system is ok but i'd rather get it looked over by a pro,

Cheers

My Hotmail account has started sending out random spam mail to people who are listed in my contacts. One friend has had 15 of these emails in one day. The emails have no subject and only contain a weblink which is usually different with every mail sent out - e.g. http://caribbean-vacation-rent.com/indexi.html

As I am completely oblivious to these emails being sent and I have no control over them, I am at a loss as to what to do. Deleting the account completely would seem to be the sure way of stopping this but as I have that email address registered with a number of online forums etc. I am reluctant to do this.

Would removing my friend's email addresses from the contact list be a solution?

Answer:Solved: Hotmail account sending out spam

Not got hotmail, but I had the same thing happen with a Gmail account of mine, that I normally access through OE, so don't go into the web interface.

Turns out that someone in China had logged into it and sent spam to all the contacts. How they worked out the password is beyond me, presumably a security flaw in Gmail. But that's what I'd suspect. Hotmail, like Gmail, will let you check who logged in when and where from if you look at the bottom of the page (I guess).
You'll need to change yr password and security details. They already have yr address book so no point in deleting that.

Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, locked me out of my Hotmail email account, claiming someone has hacked into it and I need to prove to them that I am the real owner of that account. After filling out the forms they sent to me, requiring subject line detail of recent emails and recent email addresses of people I wrote, they sent me another email to my new Outlook account stating that they have given me back access to my old Hotmail account.

Now, how do I get that valuable information I had in my old Hotmail account and where is it? It is not in my new Outlook email account. I use Windows XP operating system.

Thank you,

cat7

Since this morning, I can no longer log into my hotmail account or into my account on a website where one can upload texts from one's home computer and post them on said website. If I try to log in, all I get is "page cannot be displayed" each time. It doesn't make a difference whether I use Internet Explorer or Firefox. I can only log into hotmail and into the text-website if I deactivate Windows Firewall and use my VPN client instead (the VPN client doesn't work with the firewall on). So I tried logging in without Windows Firewall and without the VPN client - it didn't work. So I don't know where the problem lies. I have never had it before. My computer runs on Windows XP Home SP2 with the latest patches installed. There are no viruses or spyware...not that I can see, anyway. I am posting my hijack log just in case, though.
I don't want to use my VPN client all the time just to check my hotmail account and upload documents, especially since the VPN client is property of my university and strictly for research purposes...Here you go:

My main hotmail account lets me log in but will not go to my mailbox. It keeps giving me an error message that the account is "temporarily unavailable" and to try again later. Well, I have been trying again later since this happened on Tuesday (it's now Thursday) to no avail. I have written a couple notes to Hotmail and included my telephone number in case they wanted to/need to contact me - but nothing yet. I cannot find a telephone number to call them.

My other hotmail account seems to be working fine so its probably not my computer (although that is the old hotmail - the one I'm having problems with is the new hotmail windows live version).

I have done a system restore back to January thinking it might help - but no change.

Can anyone help me? I am supposed to be shooting a commercial on Saturday and have no way to contact the client as all my info for them is in this email account (I know - it was stupid to depend on free email for something so important- I've been beating myself up over it for 24 hours now!)

You're probably familiar wih this scam. It wants a code number entered, a new password set and won't let me into my account. The scam software itself, malfunctions. Anyway, I can't access my hotmail. How do I fix this.

The TSG SysInfo isn't functioning either.

Virtually everything I help other folks with I can find an answer to, but this one has me tearing my hair out.

Where I live in Spain we often get power cuts. Each time it happens I have to re-enter passwords for all the PC forums I help on and my Hotmail account, that was only a minor irritation, but now Hotmail has changed its security measures and made it a big irritation.

After the power has failed, PC is rebooted and when I try to sign into Hotmail I enter my email address and password and it takes me to a page that says "You haven't signed in from this location recently" that alone is hard to understand as I am using my hotmail account every single day.

It then asks for me to verify the account and sends me a text message, I enter the code number received and submit it only to be taken back to the same page again. I've done this verification several times and it just goes around in a never ending circle.

I end up having to select the option "I can't verify my account", fill in all the details and then later in the day or the next morning my account is accessible again, but only until there is another power cut and I have to go through the same routine all over again. I've tried to add my desktop PC as a trusted PC but it says I need to have Windows Essentials installed, so I installed it, rebooted and still got the same message.

On my laptop PC I don't get any of the above problems and can happily sign in and out of Hotma... Read more

There is an email account in my Outlook Express that I can not remove. In fact, I have no idea where it came from. Occasionally, when I go to my mail I am advised I am offline. Then if I look at my accounts I see this phantom email is now the default.

I use the tool option of remove and it appears to work. But if I close the accounts and go back in it is there again. Under the Accounts it appears like this ...

Account, Type, Connection
name, mail, Any Available

I've run a complete virus check, but nothing was found. I'm kind of afraid my email account is being hijacked, but not sure what to look for or do.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Jim

Using Outlook 2003 to check Exchange account. Some apps we have and use required Office 2002, so I installed this after 2003 was already on my system. I took the default settings only to realize that I could not have two Outlooks installed (even though different versions)...I went in and removed just Outlook 2002, leaving Outlook 2003. Now Outlook 2003 has my mailbox listed twice. So I have access to all folders (Inbox, Sent, etc) from both Mailbox folders.

How do I safely remove one of these from Outlook and keep just one of the accounts?

My wife & I use Outlook on a shared computer at home, we are not connecting to an office Exchange server. She has accidentally managed to add one of my email accounts to her profile, it is an IMAP account and I cannot remove it. It is listed under data files as a .pst but when I try to use the delete function it tells me I cannot remove it because it is an email account. However under the email accounts tab it is not there. When I open Outlook the account and all it's folders are still there. I have tried removing this account from my own profile, I've tried removing every reference to it in the registry, I'm now stumped.

I recently transferred a neighbours data from his old machine to a new machine using 'files and settings transfer wizard'. The old machine had a mail account in Outlook Express from a previous user and this has been transferred also. Unfortunately that account now controls Outlook Express. in as much as the documents are sent from that name even though when I look at the account detailed information (tools->accounts->properties) there is no reference to this user or his email address/server etc. Can anyone give me an idea as to how I can remove this account? I would be most grateful

I have 2 Hotmail accounts with MSN. My primary account I pay for (MSN Plus or something) & the other is basic and free. I'm paid up on the primary account.
I have 2 IBM Thinkpads, a T41(XP Pro) & a T21(Windows 2000). I opened Outlook Express this morning & found 1 new email-- from eBay (it had my correct user name so I don't think it is a spoof). I tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. A window says: An Unknown Error Has Occured. So I closed Outlook Express & accessed my primary Hotmail account through the internet. I tried to delete the message there. It seemed to delete and got as far as the trash but when I tried to empty it, it re-appeared in its original place-- as an unopened email. I was not able to delete any other emails.
I was able to send an email to my secondary Hotmail account.
But when I opened the secondary account & sent an email to my primary account, it was not received. Also, I always receive an email from Dictionary.com with a new word each morning and nothing came. So I'm concluding that somehow my primary Hotmail account is stuck or blocked.
Any suggestions are deeply appreciated. Thanks! -M

Answer:Solved: My hotmail account is stuck, not receiving emails

Turns out it was a glitch on their end. the problem persisted throughout the morning but "magically" cleared up. I believe it was some problem with their server.

I'm not happy with MS wanting another email/phone for email access; however, gave them another email account to keep mine.

However, now when I log into the email - I can only get my account info, not the email. I've logged out several times and back in.

I seen nothing to route me to my email when I'm in account info.

Please, how can I access my email?

Answer:[SOLVED] can't get hotmail email - only account info when logged in

are you logging with a hotmail/outlook/live account
OR
are you using another email address
MS allows any email to be used to register as a MSAccount (changes since windows 8) and so you could register with a gmail.com account
BUT
you wont get any email access as the email server is provided by gmail and not MS

Some Hotmail account holders can't read their mail. How old are their pcs and software? I can read my mail but can't reply or create new messages: I have Windows XP and have my pc for about 7 years I think. A friend can read and send messages but can't print messages, or copy and paste messages in order to print them. So she has fewer problems than I have, and she has had her pc for about 3 years. (I have this week, following advice received, 'optimised my browser'; this was no help). Are people's different problems related to the age of their machines and systems? I assume the very troublesome new Hotmail was developed using Vista and other recent software.

I'm having a time format problem in my Hotmail account.

Basically, I'm in the UK but I created a US Hotmail account. This is causing a time problem. When it says I receive an email at 1pm UK time, when I check my inbox, it actually says I received it at 8am Eastern US time (it's always -5 hours).

I have put up with it, but it's getting a bit of a problem lately. Surely there is a way you can change the time format of you account? I honestly cannot see this option anywhere though. I mean, what if you were travelling out of the country? Surely, the option should be there to alter the time to the country you're in, etc?

Many thanks if you can help.

EDIT: Aha, I've figured it out. If I change my country/region to the UK, it sorts itself out =)

Answer:[SOLVED] Hotmail account spammed address book

I should add that the infection that happened last week was due to a pop up that I clicked on that was disguised as the MSE security software. I did click on the link, but backed out & shut down through the task manager before completely downloading. I'm afraid it was too late, though.

Nothing was changed in Hotmail to my knowledge, i.e. contact list was not deleted. I deleted the contents myself and left only a second email I use to see if more messages get sent out. So far nothing today....

I hope I'm being thorough enough, but if I could provide anything more, please let me know.

Thank you,
Beth
