How is it possible for someone to use MY email address to send ME spam?

I have been receiving a great many of these types of email lately.

Preferred Solution: Using MY email address to send ME spam??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Using MY email address to send ME spam??

This looks like e-mail spoofing.

Recently (within the last week) I have received spam email from two separate accounts both of which belong to me. The spam was sent to myself and a couple others. One account is a hotmail account, another is a gmail account. Both accounts have had two-factor authentication enable since long before these spam emails. I have since changed both passwords (just to be sure) but I do not believe these emails are originating from my accounts, I believe my email addresses are being spoofed due to the following:

As stated above, both of my accounts are 2-factor authenticated and have been since long before these issues.

The spam email that was sent from my hotmail account shows as mailed-by: terra.com.br, *not* hotmail.com as it should.

The spam email that was sent from my gmail account shows *no* authentication information. There is no mailed-by information. Here is the source information, note all instances of my actual email address have been removed and replaced with [email protected] in order to avoid additional spam from crawlers:

One of my friends just sent me a copy of 2 e-mails that were sent with my e-mail address that I never sent.I did a avast, hijackthis, superantispy, and malwarebyes (came up clean) and here are the logs.I did find something with avast on some older files I removed from a old dying hard drive from another computer. They have been on this computer for over a month and I though they were scanned and clean. I also have not had any issues till now.Any and all ideas welcome to fix this.Joe[Saving space - attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:Something is using my e-mail address to send spam!

It may not be your email address, email services like eml.cc offer an alias and basically it masks your real address with the alias and allows you to use any other address whatever the alias is ,dont take my advice on it, wait for someone "Qualified" to answer your question

Hi guys,

'Boopme' had me run MiniToolBox and he wrote that he found "errors and other issues" and he bumped me to this thread.

Norton now seems to be removed and the restart was successful w/ out a restore.

This is what I wrote in under the from "Am I infected?" thread;

Been having problems with my laptop running Vista Home premium svc pack2.
One day, a month ago, Norton was not updating properly. Upon the next boot-up windows would not start and I was forced to restart in safe mode with a system restore. This was successful but Norton Security Suite was still not updating properly.
Since then, on a few occasions, I have attempted to uninstall Norton without success thru the program uninstaler. Norton is unresponsive. I even got the Norton rep. to do a remote deletion of all registry files of Norton. But they all returned after the reboot of my PC because windows would not open and I had to start-up thru system restore.
Since then my yahoo email been hacked and spam sent to the contacts of my address book.
I know I got something but I don't know what.. Can anyone take a stab at what I might need to do?
Thanks,
Brian

I have two separate issues that aren't related...I think:

1. This morning, I received an email from HDTracks.com (a site I have bought HD music from in the past) thanking my for my reply, assuring me that the investigation is ongoing, and asking me to send more information about how my card was fraudulently used. Uh oh.

After digging around for a while, I was able to piece together that HDTracks's servers have been hacked, and they sent an email to all of their customers asking us to cancel our credit cards and alert HDTracks to any fraudulent use. The problem is, I never received this email. But I apparently replied to it, so HDTracks seems to believe.

I've contacted HDTracks about the issue an am awaiting a response.

2. While digging around, I noticed in my Junk Mail folder (this is an old, unused Hotmail account, BTW) several "undeliverable" notices that looked like this one:

Hello, I am a new member to this forum. I have been having a problem connecting to the internet for the past three month with many “This Page can’t be displayed” notices. Recently I have been getting “Failure to Deliver” messages from Google that one of my email accounts was used to send spam to unknown email recipients. I believe that Google shut him down from their site. Nevertheless, data is still being collected and messages sent preventing me from connecting to the web sites that I need. I am running Windows 7 (32bit) and IE11. My security is Fix-it Utilities Professional and Hitman Pro. Neither of these programs has located the program that is sending out messages from one of my email accounts. Any help in stopping this is appreciated.

Ok, I have searched for answers to this and I tend to get the same responses. Here's the situation: I have a fairly strong password to my Yahoo account, and I do not give it away. I have done a virus/spybot search, with no results. This morning, someone sent a spam email to everyone on my address book. I looked at my Yahoo account and saw it was accessed and even the IP address of him/her (it was in Mexico by a mobile device). My contacts were not erased, nor was my password (though I have now immediately changed it). The stange thing is that in my "sent" folder, there is only one email that went out, and it was to only 5 or 6 of my contacts, whereas there were dozens of returned emails from those who no longer exist, so I know they were sent.

It can't be that they "faked" my email address becuase they used every single person in my own EXTERNALLY saved address book. How?

I have a word document that includes a form the user must fill in. I want to create a button that will do all of the following:
1. Update all fields
2. Attach the updated word document to an email
3. Enter an address I have stored in the macro into the To field of the email.

I have one module which does the first part:
Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim oStory As Range
For Each oStory In ActiveDocument.StoryRanges
oStory.Fields.Update
If oStory.StoryType <> wdMainTextStory Then
While Not (oStory.NextStoryRange Is Nothing)
Set oStory = oStory.NextStoryRange
oStory.Fields.Update
Wend
End If
Next oStory
Set oStory = Nothing
End Sub

I found that if I add this to the before End Sub it attaches the updated Word document to an email:
Application.Options.SendMailAttach = True 'Or False
ActiveDocument.SendMail

However, I can't figure out how have it put a specific address into the To field of the document.

So I tried another tact. I have the email address as a hyperlink in the document, and set a bookmark at the hyperlink. Then I created a module that will go to the bookmark and open the hyperlink. However, this will not add the document as an attachment:

Sub Open_Hyperlink()
Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToBookmark, Name:="hyperlink"
With ActiveDocument.Bookmarks
.DefaultSorting = wdSortByName
.ShowHidden = False
End With

Selection.Range.Hyperlinks(1).Follow NewWindow:=False, AddHistory:=True
End Sub

So then I found this bit of coding on the web, and tried imp... Read more

I found a solution, but I think it is a bit bulky. It seems to work but I'd love to know if there is a simpler solution:

For Each oStory In ActiveDocument.StoryRanges
oStory.Fields.Update
If oStory.StoryType <> wdMainTextStory Then
While Not (oStory.NextStoryRange Is Nothing)
Set oStory = oStory.NextStoryRange
oStory.Fields.Update
Wend
End If
Next oStory
Set oStory = Nothing

Dim bStarted As Boolean
Dim oOutlookApp As Outlook.Application
Dim oItem As Outlook.MailItem

If Len(ActiveDocument.Path) = 0 Then 'Document has not been saved
ActiveDocument.Save 'so save it
End If
Set oOutlookApp = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application")
If Err <> 0 Then 'Outlook isn't running
Set oOutlookApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
bStarted = True
End If

Set oItem = oOutlookApp.CreateItem(olMailItem)
With oItem
.To = "[email protected]"
.Subject = "Promo Order" '
.Body = "Thank you for your order"
.Attachments.Add Source:=ActiveDocument.FullName, Type:=olByValue

When I got BellSouth DSL years ago I had Outlook email account set up with BellSouth as outgoing and old domain as incoming so I could keep my email address from another domain. It worked fine until a year or so ago I had to add another account just for BellSouth and that worked fine.

Within last few weeks emails from my email address (old domain) would not send. I've been through it with ATT tech several times to no avail.

It seems that ATT has trapped me out and does not want me to be able to keep my old email.

There's bound to be a way to set up my email accounts so my outgoing email from my other ISP provider will send through BellSouth without changing my very old and reliable email address.

Also, I recently have acquired my own domain name and I fear emails from that email address will suffer the same fate.

I hope this is not too long, but PLEASE HELP if you can.

Answer:Can't send email using different domain in email address BellSouth trapped me out...

If your BellSouth e-mail service is provided by Yahoo, then you probably need to go through a registration and authentication process for each e-mail address you want to send through a non BellSouth/Yahoo mail server. At least that is what I had to go through as an SBC/ATT DSL customer. They claim that they do the blocking to prevent from originating from users within their network.

Answer:spam links send from my email, possible virus?

I think I have asked this before. I am getting so much spam email im sick of deleting it all! These fat heads who send it to me I wish they would stop.

Some of the emails say "Your date has been approved with Jenn" Then will say my husband is away for a week so if the first date goes well we will try another.

Come talk to jean and see her body at bla bla website.

I get so many others too. Partsolver and towel direct?? I now have between my two computers almost 200 unread of spam emails and some thats not spam. It takes forver to go through and delete them all.

Ive been told not to hit unsubscribe but sometimes it helps. They say then they know your email is valid. Well they must or they would cease to email me so whats it going to matter to unsubscribe?

Ive even tried to "bounce to sender" but nothing works! Is there any way to block emails from these people? Or not allow them on my server? A auto bounce before they even come on my pc?

Maybe I should just ask my ISP I dont know. I thought id ask one last time.

Answer:I get lots of spam email to my email address

There are usually two places where SPAM filtres can be effective. The most obvious is at your ISP's Mailbox; because how ISPs handle the spam filter vary, I can give no explicit instructions, although their on-line help section generally will provide those.
The second place is at your Email Client on your computer. FF/Mozilla both include teachable Spam filters that you can use to segregate legitimate mail from the gunk.

The best place to stop SPAM is to be extremely careful about your Email Address. It would be a wise step to have one Email Address for friends, family, and trusted people, and a "throwaway" Email address (s) for on-line registrations, Ebay, or other public places. Once these addresses become, as they will, clogged with SPAM, you can simply delete them and create new addresses, beginning the process over again.

Regards,
John

Hello! I'm a (very) long time lurker of this site but recently decided to join. I've had my Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite laptop for a bit over a month. About 2 weeks into ownership I started receiving spam emails in my msn account, the one I use to sign into the laptop. These mails are sometimes from me, although I have checked my sent mail and there isn't anything there I haven't personally sent. I signed into a different email account and that one was spammed too, until I signed out.

I access the internet from my phone and my desktop pc (Windows 7). I wasn't sure where the issue was coming from so I turned off the desktop but the problem persisted. I did a system restore on the I ran AntiMalwarebytes, CCleaner, and my antivirus programs which all came back clean, but the problem is still here.

I've factory restored three times, completely reformatted the drive twice and I still have the problem. I installed Windows 10 Preview but I didn't receive any spam for the hours I had it running. I reinstalled my OEM version of 8.1 and within 2 hours the spam emails started. The last time, I hadn't even installed my firewall and antivirus program when the spam email started. I also noticed that my OneDrive says the last time the files were synced was in 1969.

Having the laptop in airplane mode or shut off is the only way I don't receive spam.

I, just today, received a million emails from mail delivery refused daemons and such -i didn't send these emails. I changed my password, i use internet mail.. Yahoo.. I've always received a bleepload of spam however this is more serious.. Just happened recently, so I'm not sure if changing the password helped. still receiving this messages however they were sent before the time i changed my password.

if it so happens that the emails are continued to be sent, do I have malware? please help.

Sounds like a spammer got your email address and is spoofing the return to or from address using yours instead. It could also be that someone is infected and their computer had you email address. Here's an example of headers shown in real emailReturn-Path: <[email protected]>Received: from inaamta17.mail.tds.net ([216.170.230.187]) by inmta16.mail.tds.net (InterMail vM.7.08.03.00 201-2186-126-20070710) with ESMTP id <[email protected]net> for <[email protected]>; Thu, 26 Feb 2009 07:51:51 -0600Received: from mta705.email.newegg.com ([38.119.56.165]) by inaamta17.mail.tds.net (InterMail vG.3.00.02.00 201-2196-120-20070322) with SMTP id <[email protected]egg.com> for <[email protected]>; Thu, 26 Feb 2009 07:51:51 -0600

I have recently started to get returned emails from people who I don't know and haven't sent e-mails to. these are messages that are hitting their spam filters and being rejected/returned for verification. Is there any way to stop this? Is there some way to check if these messages are coming from my PC? I don't see anything in my sent items folder. If not from my PC, is there any way to identify the source from the returned e-mails and possibly stop them?

Using outlook 2007, Windows XP

Thank you

I keep getting MAILER-DAEMON emails in my in-bin.

"Returned mail: see the transcript [FAILED(1)]"
"failure notice"

The body of the email says that it couldn't be delivered and then the original message is about pills and other spam crap...

I get like 10 of these a day every day. I know these emails aren't coming from me. I could care less accept that my email address is being attached to all this spam that other people are getting...tarnishing my name...

Anyway to stop this?

Spam is somehow being sent which displays my email address. I know this because:
a) I have had messages returned as undeliverable to addresses I hadn't sent email to.
b) I received a spam message from myself (!)

My OS is XP. I have service pack 2. I run AVG regularly and ad aware and spybot every once in a while. BTW, I'm computer literate, but I don't speak geek, so don't get too technical with me please :)

I contacted my internet service provider after messages I sent to hotmail addresses returned saying, "Reasons for rejection may be related to contect with spam-like characteristics or IP/Domain reputation problems." It turns out that hotmail has blocked all messages from my internet service providers (the biggest, or one of the biggest in my country). This makes me thing that maybe they are infected somehow.

I have changed my internet password and started scanning for threats. The norton online virus scan worked, (showing I had 2 problems, trojan.wimad and adware.memory meter) but the security scan wouldn't run. Also my ad aware shut down mid scan. I ran an ewido online scan. I found a bunch of adware and one trojan. I googled to find out what the trojan was and found that it could be a false positive and erases it could screw up the computer. I erased the adware and left the trojan. I read more on your site and I hope this wasn't a mistake. BTW, not posting on any other site.

Hi,

I have a very simple question. At present I'm receiving around 100 spam messages a day, this started this week and they're all being sent as if they were Undeliverable Messages that I've sent, which clearly I haven't.

They're all being sent to my websites domain, but none have my name. All I want to know is can you set up Outlook Express or can I get my host to block any mail that doesn't have my whole email address.

I mean if my email address was [email protected] could I block an email that was sent to [email protected] or would any email forwarded to @myaddres.com come to me regardless of the prefix?

Thanks, damn spammers what is the point, would anyone buy their drugs after recieving 400 emails in 4 days?

Cheers

Neil

My email is [email protected] (xx to keep it hidden!). But I have been receiving spam to [email protected]. But this is not my email address! Yet still it is appearing on my PC. Why?

I am using Outlook 2003 and the address was shown in teh To: field.

Thanks,

Jon

Answer:Spam to (not) my email address

Because your address is in the BCC field of the email received, so it's not seen due to the custom SMTP email engine that the scammer scumbags use. Only a spoofed one is seen.

I received an email from MY email address that my spam filter put in my spam box, but I didn't send it. How do people send emails like this, and how do I prevent it?

I use Yahoo/AT&T for my email. I checked my "sent" folder and that email was not in there. I also right-clicked the address to see if there was a "real" sender in the code, but it was my email address. I used to be able to mouse over a return address and see the real sender. Wish that feature still worked!!!

Just as a precaution, I reset my password, although I really don't think I've been hacked - just impersonated.

Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Recently I got a email from "Mail Delivery System <[email protected]>" in which it said that the email that I was trying to send was not send, and the email content was typical SPAM ("Hi, Look what I've just found for you, you'll be surprised, more info here <Spam link here> ") . So I got worried and tried to change my password but when I go to Yahoo account info --> Account security, and click on change password nothing happens just the page reloads.

Just scanned my pc with malwarebytes no malware found.

PS In the recent activity of Yahoo info I have my account connected to several email applications that are from different countries.

Answer:unable to recieve or send email because of spam message

Run Malwarebytes in case you have malware that is trying to use your computer to send spam out.Check your email account via webmail to clean out any messages (in or out) that are junk that might be clogging things up or that your email client is not allowing. Use spam, virus and other filters available on the webmail/ISP email site to filter out the worst offenders before you 'see' them on your email client.Clean out your inbox and outbox regularly. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I've put a more detailed summary here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic456375.htmlA spambot somehow got a hold of my Yahoo! email account and is sending spam (all of them the same message) to random people who've sent emails to me previously. Unfortunately, "random people" includes no-reply email addresses, so my inbox is consistently covered in [email protected] Failure Notices. Even worse, "random people" also includes Facebook notifications which allow one to reply to things via email, so I've found spam posted on Facebook by myself (only once so far, but still).I once tried to find it McAfee Security Scan Plus (before the Facebook thing), but failed, regarded it as "just an inconvenience", and moved on, until a few months passed (and the Facebook thing happened).I then, advised by TheShooter93, used screen317's Security Check, SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and GMER (for the results, see the above URL).I then changed my email account's password, which didn't work (I got another [email protected] Failure Notice, with the same spam message).DDS.txtDDS (Ver_2011-08-26.01) - NTFSAMD64 Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_31Run by marcopolonian at 21:55:24 on 2012-06-11Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601.1.1252.1.1033.18.7786.5129 [GMT -5:00].AV: avast! Since 3am GMT today I've been spammed at a rate of about fifty an hour to an email address on one of my sites. They are the 'couldn't deliver message' sort - most of them having tried to deliver non-existent emails from non existent addresses from my site, if you get my drift. Is there nothing I can do to stop this, short of deleting this address and making a new one - most unfortunate as this is the official (and only) email for this particular site and I'd have to notify a fair number of establishments. I contacted Webmania my hosts and (surprisingly) they were not helpful, saying merely they are improving their spam filters over the next months. But I can't keep up with this attack; they are coming by the second.

Answer:spam - should I change my email address?

I'm ticking as resolved, purely because this morning when I checked, there had only been about ten in the last six hours,so the massive onslaught must have been a 24 hour thing, though I suppose it doesn't solve the initial problem.

What?s worse than getting spam? Unwittingly sending it. When bogus and probably malware-laden advertising goes out in your name, you look bad. And you get flooded with bounced messages from dead addresses that some crook attempted to spam in your name.

The good news: You?re not sending out spam. Neither is your computer or your IP address. But the bad news can still be pretty bad.Click to expand...

Hello there!

First of all, MAJOR THANK YOU'S and apologies... you've got a total IT idiot here in this post. I'm telling you, I'm really clueless.

Secondly, the reason for my post! I must have clicked on something in an email (I KNOW, I KNOW! Wrong move, right?!) that captured/hijacked/compromised my email address. For the past several days I've been getting "postmaster delivery notification-delivery has failed" bouncebacks--- going right into my Junk Mail folder. I didn't think much of it... until Verizon suspended my email account this morning for MISUSE. LITTLE OL' ME??? Misuse?? Yup. And I can tell they are FULL OF JUNK because they are trying to sell off-label Viagra and Cialis (BTW, do people really believe that these meds are the real thing? You get what you pay for, people!! A four-hour erection may be the least of your worries! Sorry... I got off topic... )

Anyway, it has probably happened like 125-150 times in the past several days. I have gone in and changed my password (it's SUPER STRONG NOW!) and my security questions, but from what I've read there is probably still something sitting on my computer that will make this happen again. If you can help, I would be so grateful, and even if you can't, thanks for trying! --- Jenn

In the past I've just deleted spam emails and not worried about them, but now they are starting to come in using m saying "Hi - then my email address". Should I be worried about this?

Answer:Spam emails using email address

Hmm, don't think so - just delete them as usual. It is only if/when a person responds to these things, that problems are very likely to occur. It is so easy to 'hit' on strangers email addresses, I am pretty sure they are not directed at you specifically - just a spammer using ad-hoc addresses.

People have been telling me they are getting spam emails from my email address. I am not sending these. In the list of addresses in these emails most of the addresses are some I have in my address book. I use Microsoft Outlook but none of these emails show up in my Sent folder. I have run several different scans and nothing shows up. I have included my FRST and Addition logs.

I don't know if it's the address itself or just Yahoo, but somehow my personal email address is showing up in some people's spam boxes. In this particular case, I'd been trying to communicate with an Amazon seller about a return and refund and was frustrated that he wasn't replying to any of my emails. Turns out my mails were going into his spam folder. That wouldn't concern me much as it can depend on each user's and network's spam settings, but this isn't the first time people have said messages from my Yahoo email have been flagged as spam.

So my question is, is there some way to check and see if my address is on some national spam list? Is there anything I can do to try and remedy this? I'm definintely not spamming anyone; I just want to be able to communicate with folks when I need to!

Hi everyone:
Over the last week I have started getting spam on my road runner email address. Clearly, I have not emailed this spam to myself. I regularly run Adaware Pro edition, Spybot and Norton Corporate edition (all on my computer for 10 months now without problem.)

There is absolutely no software in my add/remove that is unsual. All legitimate. I have added the Microsoft Antispyware to try to deal with this and found at least four instances of

res://shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm

under: desktop navigation, navigation cancel..., navigation failure and offline information. In each of these it says it is the "current information "AND the address is in "restore to" res://shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm

I just don't have any idea how to remove what ever is in my computer that is using my address to send information to me.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Someone suggested I may have a worm. I also ran CWshredder...nothing was found.

Any suggestions as to what steps I should follow?

Thanks techguy(s)

Not even sure if this should be here.

This AM my web-based Yahoo mail sent a spam to everyone on my contact list. I constantly see others having this happen to them but I do a daily scan with MBAM,SuperAntiSpyware and Windows Essentials and so far the computer LOOKS clean.

I have no idea about the web-based (Yahoo!) mail client, but it wold need an impetus from my computer to go sending crud about, I should think.

Asking Yahoo! about this proved slightly less frustrating that trying to thread a needle while on a vibrating bed.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I got an email sent to an aol address that I never get junk emails from. No one knows I have it, I've never advertised it on aol, or to websites, people, etc.. but somehow this morning I got a letter from some company wanting to do something with my mortgage. They had my full name and home address in the letter. I'm really confused by how they could've ended up with all that... the fact that they sent it to this unknown address is really puzzling..

Does anyone know how this happened or has this happened to anyone else?

Answer:Spam email sent to a private address...?

The only way they could have gotten it is if you used your email and sent your information to a site....they now have the info.

OR

AOL gave them the info.

You choose.

This company or spammer is sending us spam with our own email address. I have tried to write them that we will file charges or whatever our State Attorney General thinks is best.

But none of the emails or applications on their site will go through.

What can we do besides going along with the State Attorney General.

Answer:sending us spam with our own email address

hello ,

do not open the messages for that is what started it

block the message

is it thru (outlook) or another mail system

get a good spam blocking software

also listing (e-mails & company address's ) in forums will give the spamers that browse forums looking for address' & company names a link to you or the company

is your company big enough to have an IT tech ?

if so then contact hime to solve this issue for then he will have a kinda lock on the system and what we tell you will be kinda useless

I signed on to a free email service; before I even had the chance to tell friends etc about my new email address I started to get lots of junk mail: usually from odd sounding addresses regarding xxxx and how big is your $$$$ and how to make it bigger. How is this possible? Does your email address get passed on without your permission!!

Answer:how does spam find your email address?

It's a lucky guess...The spammer does not know that the email address is valid."Does your email address get passed on without your permission!!" - Me thinks that would be illegal if that happend.

Hello,

I'm posting this for a friend so I hope you can help. Basically, every time he sends/receives his emails in Outlook there are literally thousands of spam emails flooding the inbox. I've ran a few anti spyware, and he has Norton Antivirus/Internet Security installed. The anti spyware found a few things but nothing too harmful. The virus scan came up with nothing. Other than the email spam the computer runs fine. I couldn't run Panda ActiveScan like it said in the sticky, because the "Scan Now" button didn't do anything. Windows is updated fully also.

Here is the Hijackthis log, with the extra.txt file attached. If you need any more information let me know.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

In our village in Spain, we have a very dodgy wireless internet access system, run by a company called NijarNet that is very difficult to communicate with - partly a language problem and partly because their customer service is dreadful. I have 13 clients with accounts here (I'm a management agent), and I manage these for them - they are all either wifi or wimax which pick up the signal from various antennae in the area. One such client was having no problem until something called Spamcop blocked his emails. Since then, he is unable to send emails from his 02 account, although he can send from his gmail account with no problem. He can receive on both accounts. O2 says it's not their problem, but that I must talk to the provider (which I have tried to do but they deny it's their problem and can't/won't give any advice on what the problem might be). I reckon it's something fairly simple that I might be able to sort myself, maybe a setting on the router? Can you offer any advice? He's tried it on several different laptops, devices etc with no luck. Any advice would be gratefully received.

I am helping a friend with their computer mess. The husband uses Windows Live as his email client and the wife uses direct Road Runner.

They both use the same computer. When the husband tries to send email to his wife's email acct, she never receives it. Yet he can send emails to me and I am a Road Runner email address. So I know that his Windows Live is set up correctly.

His wife's email is working fine directly through Road Runner as she can send and receive emails.

SO... Seems to me the issue has something to do with using the same computer and he never signs out of Windows Live. (I personally use Outlook as I am a business and am not familiar with Windows Live)

He never gets any kind of Undeliverable mail message or anything.

Can anyone help me here. I'm am do back over to continue cleaning up some other issues with his system. And I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thank you in advance.

Someone is spamming with what looks to be my husband's Email address. For the past three or four days he has been getting two or more failure of delivery notices for messages he obviously did not send. The failure of delivery notices are returned either because the address to which it is sent does not exist or because it is bounced by the receiver's security software. None of the receivers that we have seen bounced back are in his Outlook address book, so there is no mass mailing work working from Outlook on his machine, as far as I can tell. He runs Norton's Internet security program (with current updated software and virus definitions) and he is running SpySweeper which he licenses and which is current with regards to program updates and definitions. Both Norton's and SpySweeper show completely clean logs. Earthlink is the ISP, do I address this with them or is there something else I should do before I address it with them.

Thanks, in advance, for your help. LAC

Hello all -

Hoping that someone can give me a hand here. My sister has been having a barrage of emails go out from her AOL email address over the past week or so. Multiple mass emails at various times of day. Her email service is through AOL and she is operating on Windows Vista. The emails seem to be going to sections of her address book (I get emails for all the K's and L's). Each batch has a different body to the email, but it's obviously some sort of virus or malware. She ran her anti-virus and said it highlighted two cookies and deleted them, but I didn't actually get to see the scan to see what it said exactly.

I've had her download and install Malware Bytes, Spyware Blaster and WinPatrol. I had her take her computer completely offline and run the virus scan and malware bytes. After several cycles of that, she was able to run them and get a clean scan. I told her to change her password and then go back online. About 24 hours passed with no incident, but late last night two more batches of emails went out. She scanned her home computer again with the anti-virus and malware and it came up with a clean scan. She also uses her work computer to log into her AOL email, so I'm having her repeat the process today on her work computer to ensure that's not where the problem is as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance as to which way to go at this point? She uses this email address for her personal business and it's crea... Read more

I have orange broadband and I am now getting over 500 spam messages a day through my freeserve account many of which bypass the filters and go directly into the in-box. I asked the orange helpline if i could change the email address on my billing account to avoid spam. 30 mins later and 15 poorer, the tech line talked me through the setup for a dial-up account! I can't seem to make anyone understand. Has anyone else had similar problems, or better still provide a solution? The only redeeming feature with Orange is that the broadband connection is reliable, otherwise I would change the ISP.

Answer:Orange Spam - change of email address

The problem is that the freeserve e-mail address is also your account address and the bit after @ cannot be changed.I found that quite a lot of spam wasn't using my name before the freeserve account details but made up rubbish. I used their webmail filters to move some of the more commonly junk mail into the delete folder on webmail. This is not downloaded to your e-mail reader and is automatically deleted after 7 days.Article Orange Help kb 2171 why am I receiving someone else's emails? states how to set up thses filters.

Hi all,

I am trying to sort out my mothers dratted email issue once again. The problem this time appears to be that she has had her account banned for being a spammer. At least this is what the error messages say.

When trying to send emails using Outlook Express it fails giving the following message;

"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop3.btconnect.com', Server: 'mail.btconnect.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Message rejected due to sender IP reputation ([86.155.19.32]); see Mirapoint: Miracare ', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

I have been to the miracare website and checked the ip and it says the ip address is high risk and sends spam on a regular basis. This cannot be true im pretty sure my mother isnt too sure what spam is let alone have the capability to send more than 5 emails a year.

Is this likely to be a piece of software on her computer that has caused the ip address to get flagged as a spammer or could it be a mistake on miracare's end?

Thanks
Mattizar

Answer:Email Blocked as a spam address wrongly

I doubt that this would be caused by spyware. If anything they could have hacked her email account. The best option in this case is to contact the email provider and talk to them. Find out details of when these so called spam messages occurred. That will be the best indication that either her system has spyware cause it will match the times she was on her PC or if she has it shut down it will not match times she was on the PC. If she leaves the PC on at all times, you can do scans to see if she is infected. But with the trickery used by such people, just by her reading or opening an attachment sent from someone that was infected she could have been.

There is a program at work where I need to send an SMS to an email address. It responds with a code. This apparently works on Android and iOS. There doensn't appear to be any place to set an email gateway in the SMS settings.
Is there a syntax in the SMS address that would allow me to send the message (like 36345:[email protected]) ?Any work aorund?

Answer:How can you send an SMS to an email address?

Okay, I'm going to tell you. This is possible, but must be supported by your Wireless Carrier. It is not dependent on what type of phone or phone OS you have. It took some researching to learn this for you, which is why it took me a while.
Simply enter the email address as the recipient, instead of a phone number. That's all there is to it. Not all carriers support it, but I just tested it with my AT&T account and it works fine. Most major carriers support this.
When the email is received on the other end, it will have an email address that your wireless carrier has assigned to your mobile number. If you send it to your own email, you'll discover that, and be able to give that email to others in order to text you as well.
First, I recommend testing it by sending yourself an email from your phone's SMS. Good luck!

Hi folks.
I posted another thread last night but for a different machine so please treat this one as a separate (though possibly related) issue.

Some time yesterday I got a delivery failure report from a spam email that was sent out to some (if not all) people in my email address book. I use Thunderbird with the WebMail plugin to access a Hotmail account but I'm not sure if the spam went from here or elsewhere.

I've run through the README and would appreciate if someone could take a look at the logs and let me know if I need to do anything further.
During one of the scans (SAS, I believe) McAfee alerted me to the removal of Generic.dx!vje. It popped up several alerts for the same one, and several more I didn't check for detail.

Relatively new machine.
Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
Intel Xeon E5503 2GHz, 12GB RAM.
OS installed to C: (0.5TB HDD with 373GB Free).
The second HDD (D is the HDD removed from my previous machine (150GB drive with 13.5GB Free).

I don't know if any of that is relevant since I'm not having any speed issues - but it can't hurt to include it.

Logs attached (no RootRepeal log, obviously).

Thanks.

This is the first time I've had something like this happen and no idea how to solve it. For the past 10 days, I've been getting several hundred Undeliverable/Bounced back emails to my email account. They're all spam emails that I did not personally send, but are originating from my email address.

I've ran AVG virus scan and Malware Bytes on all my PCs and phone that have access to that email and have repeatedly changed passwords with absolutely no luck in getting this to stop.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to solve this?

I am a webmaster for two sites and mail sent via the site to [email protected] xxx is forwarded to my own account. However, when I reply, it shows my home email address. Is there a way in which I can send it from [email protected] xxI am using Outlook. Any thoughts most welcome

Answer:Send Email from hidden address

Set up a new Account in Outlook, basically identical to your existing Account but with the different email address and, if you want, a different name for yourself (e.g. Webmaster). When sending messages, you should then have the option to select which Account the message will be sent from.

Hi there

any decent programmers out there who can generate a script for me that does the following :

1) Get my IP address
2) send an email say every 30 mins (or user settable) to a FIXED email address - or even a text to a mobile phone.

The reason I want this is that services like no-Ip are going "PAY FOR" or you get some silly restrictions on the free stuff like re-register every few days or the IP address detection program runs every minute which is a nonsense --with Fibre connections to your ISP the IP address doesn't change much (if at all) while you are connected to the Internet - but only at boot.

That way I can access my home computer without needing to get a commercial domain etc -- on the LOCAL LAN the server has a fixed IP address so port forwarding isn't a problem for using things like RDP.

Please don't suggest TEAMVIEWER -- don't want or need it. My upload speed on ISP is perfectly good enough for me to be independent of this type of service.

Even if you run say an apache (LAMP / WAMP) server you will get access to it easily enough via its IP address of you know it.

Surprised some of the experienced coders out there haven't done this type of thing. Should be easy enough to issue a command to get your external IP address (Router gives you that without even needing Internet access from the HOST) , push the output say to a notepad file and then send email with the notepad attachment.

Staff have their own email address ([email protected]) and 'send as' permissions for another one ([email protected]).

Is it possible to set a default send as address so the employees don't accidentally email from their own account when i'd prefer them to use [email protected] by default? I see when you're replying to an existing email it automatically uses the correct email address but I worry about brand new emails that are created.

I have a video on my windows phone that I would like to forward to an email address. Is there an app for that? Or is there a simple way to do this?
thanks in advance. Jay

Answer:is there an app to send a video to an email address?

Yes, there is a way but that depends on what OS version your Windows Phone is running.
In Windows 10 Mobile, the default Outlook Mail is capable of sending videos through email - just make sure that the video size doesn't exceed 25MB.

With the new W10 email client, either with my main account or a second Outlook account, it always picks a random alias for the 'From' address when creating a new email. In the web mail settings I have each account set to send from its primary address and W8 PCs Windows mail clients have an option to choose the used email address.
Where is the setting in W10 and how do I get this under control? This can't be an issue for most as the forums would be full of it. What am I messing up here? The email app is currently useless to me, which is a shame.
Can you advise?

A problem has occured in my Outlook Express after a reformat. Whenever I go into the Address Book to send an email and click on 'Send Mail' I get this message: Address Book - Main IdentityThe Address Book could not identify an e-mail client that it could invoke. The Address Book uses the simple MAPI protocol to send email. If your e-mail client provides an opton to let it handle simple MAPI calls, then turn on this option from the e-mail client and try again. I don't know what this means and would be glad of some advice to sort out my problem

Answer:Can't send email from my address book in OE

Click Start, point to Find, click Files or Folders type mapi32.dll, right-click the file and then click Properties. Check to see if the Read-Only check box is selected. If it is, untick it.Next go to run and type Fixmapi.exe and hit enter. If this fails then go to the windows\sendto folder you should have a zero byte file named Mail> Recipient.MAPIMail do you? if not you will have to add this file.Open the reg and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MAPIMail is it there and what is the value? If you don't want to write a reg file the you could try downloading the mapistub.dll from click here and save it ti windows/system.Chris

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4Is there a DWORD named UseOutlook and is its value set to 1?If so, you have Address Book configured to share contacts with Outlook, evenif you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office). Change thevalue to 0 (zero).

I get emails from individual regularly, and have been replying.
Now, I can get email from that address, but when I send I get "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Syntax error in arguments. Please check the message recipient "..........."@gmail.com. and try again."
I used copy, reply, but still this message.
Anyone with ideas on what this is and why?

Sarge

Answer:Email received from address will not send to

Try creating a new mail to that address and see if it sends.

I did notice that in your error message there is a period(.) after gmail.com
not sure if that is a typo but an extra period in the address would give an error.

Hi there

any decent programmers out there who can generate a script for me that does the following :

1) Get my IP address
2) send an email say every 30 mins (or user settable) to a FIXED email address - or even a text to a mobile phone.

The reason I want this is that services like no-Ip are going "PAY FOR" or you get some silly restrictions on the free stuff like re-register every few days or the IP address detection program runs every minute which is a nonsense --with Fibre connections to your ISP the IP address doesn't change much (if at all) while you are connected to the Internet - but only at boot.

When in the UK, I stay with friends & relations, most of whom have BT as an ISP. The one thing (as far as I know) that I can't do on their broadband with my laptop is send emails in the usual way, and I gather it's because I don't have a BT address.
I can send them via webmail (mail2web to be exact), so it's no big deal in the general scheme of things, but it's fiddly. I can't reply directly to downloaded messages, have to type/paste in the recipient's address, etc, which feels disproportionately annoying. Does anyone know a neater workaround?
In case it makes any difference it's a Packard Bell Easynote BU45, Vista home Premium SP2, Thunderbird (up-to-date most of the time); no difference with Windows Mail. And mobile broadband wouldn't be worth the expense (especially with no 3G coverage at home).

Answer:Any way to send email from non-BT address via a BT acoount?

Try with a free Hotmail address.

SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!
for a couple of weeks now i've been getting 100's of emails a day saying 'MAILER-DEAMON: MESSAGE DELIVERY FAILED' or similar, when i open these reports i find that the subject and contents are basically spam, advertising meds, viagra etc. but the sender is apparently ME! I have an old freeserve email address and the sender of the spam varies for example '[email protected]*my username*.freeserve.co.uk' so somehow all this spam has been sent using my email address.
Being quite compentent with viruses and spyware etc. i ran an updated norton scan, stinger, adaware, spybot S&D and also checked the registry and msconfig for any dodgy running processes. NOTHING.
I'm totally stuck and cant find anyone with the same problem as me!

I'm running Windows Xp SP3. Both Firefox and IE search engine results are diverted to other pages. In addition, service.exe will continually send email - my fireall will stop it, but I want to delete whatever is causing it. I'm using Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite - it doesn't fix this. I've tried Malwarebytes anti malware, Unhackme, Spybot, SuperAntispyware and nothing will fix either of these problems.

Thanks in adavance for any help.

HelloI see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic289469.html We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. While this is a duplicate, rest assured, I have Not solved it and should remain open until.

I have also asked another programmer with a GMail account, and he too has the same problems. He can't see how to Send As. The Help forums and the screen shots differ to that which is currently in the GMail functionality.
As a sister thread to another thread here, I am having problems configuring GMail to appear as though my emails come from a POP-only email address.

Not something that has Ever caused me problems with other SMTP providers in the past, and even more infuriating since the web seems to be full of advice as to how to easily do this.

The problem is, all other threads, and GMail threads as well, instruct to do this in a way that the Settings page no longer allows.

In essence, I need to Send As, as well as Reply To my Red Sea email address. The instructions on the Help pages all seem straight forward. But, when going into the Settings>Accounts and Import>Send Email as>Add another email address, contrary to the Help, it now asks me to input the SMTP settings for this Red Sea address...!

All the Help pages make no reference to this. The Forums say all I need to do is click Send Verification, presumably to confirm my Send As address. Consequently, I cannot get past this page. If I had the SMTP addresses, there would be no need to Send As. I would just Send.

Can anyone help here? I have added a screen shot to show what I am faced with.

The executive director of one of my clients had asked me to update their spam filter for their local exchange server. After doing so, I added the copier to the list as well. Now, I admit I'm not totally dumb, but as this is my entry job to the IT world, I realized I did this without fully understanding why I did it. Now the director is asking me why their copier would need a spam filter.

How do I answer her without sounding like a dumbass and having my foot in my mouth?

Answer:Reason for adding a spam filter to the copier email address of a company

Just accept it, tell her that the copier has been removed from the SPAM filter. Learn from this lesson and do better and be prepared next time.

Learn to slow down and not be trigger happy. Always ask yourself why you do what you do and be prepared to answer to what may happen or is expected after actions.

Can it be done?

Here is the story. I live in the UK and there are now only two providers of internet service in my area. I am leaving soon and the Wannado only does long term contracts so I am stuck with AOL (I actually don't like their service). But I was able to just use their internet and bypass their software by changing some preferences in the Linksys system!!!

But I have an email adress that I want to check on Outlook. I don't think that AOL can do it but perhaps someone out there can help.... I cannot get a good SMTP that works to check another email address. Basically I want to use their SMTP server to send mail from my personal email account (not AOL)...

Any help out there?

I want to test a bunch of PHP applications on my test web server that send emails to various email addresses, and instead of them going to the different addresses I would like them to either go to a gmail account or to a plaintext file on the web server.

Does anyone know of a configuration or sendmail replacement that I could use to achieve this?
I am using Windows as the test web server's OS and using SMTP for PHP's mail() function currently.

Answer:Send all outgoing emails to text file or 1 email address?

If you want them to go to a gmail account you could just change the to address from the various addresses to the gmail address. If you're getting your various email addresses from a database or something just change the code that you're pulling the email addresses from.

If you want to output the message to a text file you would just have to use fwrite.

http://www.google.com/search?q=php+write+to+a+text+file

http://www.php.net/fwrite

http://www.tizag.com/phpT/filewrite.php

Posting code would be helpful.
