Microsoft Office Live problems with editing document!

Question: Microsoft Office Live problems with editing document!

I am in homeschooling and I rely completely on my computer for my education.
I just recently found and joined a program called Microsoft Office Live. It is basically like having an online flash drive, so you can access your files from any computer. (if you have internet)
A couple of days after I uploaded a Microsoft Word document and saved it on the program, I came back and now it won't let me edit it!
What happens is I click on the "Edit" button when I have my document selected then a message box pops up and says "Some files can harm your computer. If the file information looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open the file."

Then it either lets me click "OK" or "Cancel".
When I click "OK" the box goes away, but it doesn't take me to the editing screen so I am not able to edit my document.

I have tried over, and over again. Nothing happens! I think there might be something wrong with my Microsoft Word because it worked on a computer that I used before. But what I need to do is get it to work on my current computer.

I am using Windows Vista.

Also, I am using a free trial for Microsoft Word...may that be the problem?

Well, let me know what you think. I am sort of a beginner/intermediate with computers.

Please Help me on this! It is mandatory for my grades in my Sophomore year of high school!

-Emily

Preferred Solution: Microsoft Office Live problems with editing document!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all

I am using Windows XP and office 2003. I am using Microsoft Office Picture Manager to view tif files.

PROBLEM:

1. I open a tif file.
2. I make an annotation change eg: Use the hightlighting tool to hightlight some text. Fine, no problem!
3. I save the document.
4. I close the document and try reopening it:

I get this error:

"The file selected is not a valid Microsoft Document Imaging file"

I recreated my Windows XP profile and this resolved the problem

That was two weeks ago........now the problem is back!

Any ideas?

Question: I have many Word documents on my computer for my business and "Word" is the only program I use in the whole Microsoft Office software. I have no need for Power Point, Excel, etc. However, my word software expired and I've been told that there are some free software programs to download that will allow me to add, delete, edit and print my existing word documents. Would you please share some of these programs with me and advise me as to which one/ones are the best?

Answer:Microsift Office Word document editing

My own personal preference is LibreOffice, which will allow you to do everything you requested for your Word documents.

Another option is OpenOffice, which some people like, so that's worth taking a look at as well to see which one you prefer personally.

We are trying to edit excel documents containing macros thatare stored within a SharePoint document library.

We have 1 user who is required to update these documents. She clicks on the link on the document library, once the document is opened even though she has edit rights she is not promptedto edit the document and unable to save it.

She only gets the option to “save as” which then doesn’t saveover the existing document.

Are there any known issues with using Macro enableddocuments in Sharepoint 3.0 which prevent the clients running office 2010 toupdate these documents?

Is our requirement feasible on current software?

Is there different process required to update these types ofmacro enabled documents?

I have Office 2010 Standard Open License Version installed on 7 XP Pro machines. We discovered, when trying to open a .tif file, that Document Imaging has been removed from Office 2010. I found and followed instructions in KB982760 from the MS web site. I got lots of parts of Office 2007, including Word, but still no Document Imaging. I tried going through Add/Remove Programs to add the feature; still no luck. Has anyone been successful getting Document Imaging from a previous version of Office to run under 2010?

Thanks,
adaniel

I ran a virus scan off NBC for the sassar virus, computer was ffree but this kept popping up wanting me to buy so i uninstalled it and then my window word and office document program was gone completely from computer. I have a gateway 98, I have searched and tells me programs cannot be found?? This grandma needs to know can I run rescue disc and just reinstall or will everything change. Thanks

Answer:microsoft office document program

If you have Microsoft Word, search for a file named winword.exe. That's the file you need to start Word. If it's found, double click on it to run it. If Word opens, just make a new shortcut to the winword.exe file since your old shortcut apparently got corrupted somehow.

If you have a disc with either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works on the label; yes, you can reinstall Word from whichever one of those you have.

Please post back with the results.

I have a MSI GS70 which I recently bought about two months ago. I have updated to windows 8.1. Whenever I try to open a document from USB drive that has the format associated with a microsoft office application I get a BSOD. I ran an SFC scan, and it came back clean. I can open up the files when I copy them over but when it comes to opening it from the USB I get the BSOD.
I have attached the dump files.

Hello all,

I'm trying to view a document that has a *.tif extention. Upon investigation, it was said that this can be opened by Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Is there a stand alone program out there that I can use to view such a file? Thanks

Answer:Microsoft Office Document Imaging

A .tif is a picture or graphic. You can open it using Windows Paint or any other painting app. If you want to use Office, you could open Word and Insert, Picture, From File, and browse to the graphic and insert it into a word doc.

Does anyone know where I can download Microsoft Office Document Imaging? I have the printer, but lost the scanner and viewer. Thank you.

Answer:Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Microsoft Office Document Imaging is part of MS Office Tools included in all versions of MS Office since XP.
If you have the original install disc of MS Office you should be able to reinstall it from there (Put the disc in your drive and when the openning screen comes up it should have a "repair" option.
I know of nowhere that you can "download" it.

In Windows XP and Windows Vista 32 bit I when I installed MSO 2003 a Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer was installed as a virtual printer and was visible in my Contral Panel Printers folder. This was handy as a printer for files for later printing as described at the link below. In Windows 7 64 bit I cannot get Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer to install as a printer although Microsoft Office Document Imaging does install and work as a program available to open view and scan files.
A solution is suggested in the article at the link below but it does not seem to work. does anyone here have a workaround for this issue?
Thanks

What started all my problems is my Microsoft Office tools scanner kept coming up with the error message "An internal error has occurred. I this error persists reinstall this application.

I reinstalled/uninstalled my Microsoft Office XP 2002 twice and still get this message. I got the scanner working with the software that it came with but the Office Tools scanner program is much easier to work with. It should be part of the Microsoft Office program that I tried installing. I have the original discs for Office so it's confusing why the office tools scanner part will not work. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thank you dlb for your help getting my installer to work. I end up having to open the services.msc to start the installer sometimes. Does your start parameters have anything in it. Mine is blank. I was thinking that maybe something should be in the parameters box to have windows installer start all the time. At least I can run it in some form. I could use advice from someone with the following problem.

Over this past one year I have noticed more and more frequent BSOD crashes so I started paying close attention to what I was doing. Since then 100 percent of the BSOD occurred almost immediately after trying to save (via clicking the save icon, ^s (shortcut), or even save as). I found the probability of BSOD decreases a lot when you are doing a save a new filename. In fact I can't recall a single time where saving to a new file caused a problem. Overwriting an existing file seems to trigger it. The driver causing the BSOD is NTFS.sys. Note, it doesn't happen on each and every save, the average is like 1 of 7. My work-around has been to avoid saving early and often (which is a serious problem with Microsoft Office which isn't the most stable application around) and when I do save make sure it is via save-as and to a new filename. Just tack on a number or letter prefix. I mostly use Word ands Excel and have noted they both have this problem. Other applications may not have this issue, but then I don't overwrite too many files so that may be the reason for the lack of BSOD.

It's hard to say when it started. I allow Microsoft to update my PC as updates become available. I was never a fan of Microsoft roulette having been burned, but a couple friends insisted Microsoft cleaned up their act so I gave it another try. On the up side some of their updates did correct a couple minor issues. I believe one (or more) of their updates is responsible for this issue. Likewise I was hoping ... Read more

Hey everybody

Here at the office, we scan in leads that are mailed out to various employees. The scanner makes the file a .tiff, which has all the document images in that one file. We have to view the tiff with Microsoft Office Document Image in order to view all of the different files.

For example, if there were 40 documents scanned, and they all are put into one single .tiff. Now, if I use Microsoft Office Document Image to view it, then all 40 of them come up on the left side, and I can view them seperately.

However, if I use a picture viewer, it only shows the first document of the .tiff. I can't scroll through or anything.

Now, it's not a problem for us in the office, since we all have Microsoft Office. However, it is a problem when we e-mail them out to users that do not have this program. Is there a free alternative to this, that I can tell the employees to download, and use as the viewer for these documents?

Thanks.

How do I associate opening a TIF file within Internet Explorer v6.0 with "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" on Windows XP?

Here's the scenario.

Within Windows Explorer on Windows XP, I can double click on a *.tif file and Microsoft Office Document Imaging will open and display the *.tif file. This works fine and as expected. The file association is correct.

But, I'm viewing a database application (Onyx Employee Portal v5.0) that uses Internet Explorer as an interface. Within this Internet Explorer interface, there is a link to a *.tif file. When I click on the link, another Internet Explorer window appears, I see the QuickTime logo appear for a second, then the TIF file appears within the Internet Explorer window. But, I don't want to view the TIF file with Internet Explorer. I want to view the TIF file with Microsoft Office Document Imaging. How do I make my computer understand this?

Thanks,
Dave

Answer:TIF file association with Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Its because its not really tif you are opening. If you are clicking a link to the tif then you are really opening a hyperlink more so than a tif file. So what you could so is right click on the link and do a "Save target as" then save the tif to your desktop which would then open it properly.

I am operating on Windows Vista Home Edition. I received an email with an application form for a job as an attachement. I completed the form off of the attachement and pressed the floppy disc icon to save it. I then made an alteration and when I went to close it I was prompted whether or not to save the changes. I pressed save. When I went to open the document as an attachement my additions were not there. I have done the following to try and find it on my laptop. Whilst on the document pressed save as instead to see where it would save it to. I have then tracked that up to local/microsoft/windows but then I am requested to go into Temporary Internet then Content IE5. These last 2 folders do not show up on my hard drive. I have show hidden files open. Can you please help. Spent hours completing this form. Ta Johanne

I was scanning one chapter of a book in Microsoft Office Document Imaging (program installed with Microsoft Office 2003) using my HP Deskjet F2180 (TWAIN). After I scanned all the pages of the book's chapter, I went to menu File>Save to save the document as a TIFF file. However, at that occasion, I inadvertently moved the slider to increase quality/compression under the save options for .MDI file format just before I hit the Save button. As I intended, the file was saved as a .tif file, which is the default file format option in the save window. But perhaps I should not have changed the settings for quality/compression of MDI format, because since then, every time that I click the menu File button, the program crashes and the the same Windows error appears, saying something like: ?Microsoft Document Imaging found a problem and has to be shut down. We regret any inconvenience this might cause you. [...]?I love this program, and I'd like to keep using it. What should I do to get rid of these crashes? Do I have to restore the System to a previous restore point?

Answer:Windows Error when accessing the File menu in Microsoft Office Document Imaging

No need to restore the system! I tried the solution provided here and it worked!  I see now what probably have caused the crashes: I had saved 2 versions of the same file, (one with all the save options at their defaults and another one when I changed the settings for quality/compression of MDI format). But then, I think that while the program was still running, I manually deleted one of those files in Windows explorer, thus impairing it from being further accessed/listed among the 4 most recently opened files when I clicked on File in the top menu. Perhaps I should join TechArena Community too! It seems to be another great technical support community (like this one). You can't never get too much computer help.

I have an android phone and it allows me to automatically sync my contacts and calendar with my Google Calendar. I love it!

I am helping someone try to do the same between a Blackberry and her Microsoft Office Live Account. I cannot figure out a way to do it so it syncs automatically.

I have tried 2 different methods. 1. Use Blackberry Desktop Manager to move contacts and calendar to Outlook then use Outlook connection add-on to sync Outlook to Microsoft Office Live. or 2. Use Google App to sync Blackberry to Google Calendar then try to sync Google Calendar to Microsoft Office Live Account.

The first method is a pain as it is obviously does not sync automatically. The second method seems to work sometimes but it looks like there a huge delay between sync times(24 hours or more)

Does anyone know of a better way? I tried to find the solution through both Blackberry and Office Live forums but could not find anything.

On the Windows Team Blog, Microsoft has officially launched Web Apps for everyone in the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland. It is also accessible to other countries as well, just not yet in their native language. Web Apps is built around your personal SkyDrive, which gives you 25 GB of free online storage space for all of your documenting needs. With the desktop version of Office 2010, documents can also be saved to your SkyDrive, then revisited and shared online through your web browser. This makes accessing your personal files on-the-go a cinch. Web Apps also allows multiple people to collaborate on a single document simultaneously, while still maintaining a version history in case you ever need to go back in time. I am a teacher in Tennessee and I need to find a software that will enable me to edit and change a scanned document. I have some old tests and worksheets that I inherited from the teacher that had my room before me. I would like to make some minor changes to the documents without having to retype the entire set of documents. (Things like change the date and the teacher name on the heading, etc...)

Is there a software out there that will allow me to scan a document in and then alter it? These are not copyrighted materials, so that is not an issue.

Preferably, I would like a freeware or shareware or trial version of something to make sure I can navigate it before I shell out a chunk of cash to purchase something.

As a teacher, it is important to me that my materials look professionally done, so I would prefer to edit them on a computer rather than use white out and pen.

I recently installed the Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, but this morning its intro screen stays stuck at "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run." Googling it resulted in only two threads, neither of them having the answer.

I'm back to using Office 2007, by simply setting my Word and Excel documents to open by Office 2007 by default, but now my Word and Excel icons have become much less pretty, such as my Word icons becoming a very plain "DOCX" icon instead of the normal "blue W" icon. I checked, and the file types are still regular Word documents. Is there a way to get the pretty icons back?

Answer:Office 2010 Problems: "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" & Unattractive DOCX icons for Word documents.

Regarding changing the icon:
Go to either My Computer or Windows Explorer.
Click Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab.
Scroll down to the DOCX file type (file types are in alphabetical order), click on it one time to highlight it.
Click the Advanced button.
The "Edit File Type" screen appears.
There is a Change Icon button in the top right area.
Click the Change Icon button.
You should have other icon choices to pick from.
Side note: If you don't like any of those icons, you can always hit the Browse button,
and browse to where other icons are, (you can assign any icon to any file type that you want, it is a matter of personal preference).
Icons are found in .exe files (executables), some (not all) .dll (dynamic link library) files, and .ico files.

Hi,
I just installed windows 8.1, I really want to use to apps for calendar and people but all my data is in Google.
I keep my Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Windows based offline application) updated via Gsyncit and the calendar in it is just fine. I can also sync my Google contacts to Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Windows based offline application) if I wish.
Now Google Calendar and Contacts and Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Windows based offline application) are synced. But I want to sync this with my outlook.com account which is cloud based like Google.
I have tried everything. I also added my outlook.com account in Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Windows based offline application) but it created another calendar.
Is there any way to do this. I would be ok Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Windows based offline application) syncs with the Windows 8.1 People and Calendar App.
I am not on Office 365. I do not have Microsoft Exchange and I do not have a paid Google Apps for business account.
If anyone can help please.
Thanks,
DAN

Answer:Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Microsoft.com / Live (Not MS Office Outlook)

I'm sorry to take a while to reply to this.
The W8 apps contain the contacts and calendar(s) at Outlook.com. With calendar you can subscribe to a different calendar eg Google (in my case I have iCloud). Then with the calendar app open and using its settings you can choose which calendars to view or hide. In your case I would just use Google calendar. The snag is that is doesn't sync between the calendars however you can drag and drop items between them. Hence my suggestion just to view Google calendar. See Option 2 in the answer here Answers Microsoft
Contacts are more difficult and I haven't found a satisfactory way to sync contacts.

Need "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer"

Previously used WinXPsp2.

Now I've formatted and installed winXPsp3, after installing office2003 as usual.

The problem is I can not print using the "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" which is a virtual printer office2003 and "Printers and Faxes" does not appear, as I set it up or I can do.

If I have installed the "Microsoft Office Document Imaging"

Hi all,
after updating Office 2007 to O365 (Version 15.x) a message is displayed when opening Internet explorer.
The message is ' "The office document cache handler" add-on from 'Microsoft Corporation' is ready for use ' with two options "Enable" or "don't enable".
Does anyone know if there is a way to suppress this message?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

This is just one of those odd quirks I have run into. When I open a new document in Word, then open an older file, the new document closes and only the old one is displayed.Using Microsoft Office 2010, specifically Word.Windows 7 64-bitA bit of explanation, I often do research/writing for school or for fun. This issue has always happened, just one of those small annoyances. Here is the exact thing that is happening:1. I open a new (blank) word document, by clicking on the Word icon or by selecting "Open New Document" in the Word program.2. I open an older (saved) Word document, by clicking on the saved file, not by using the "Open" function in Word.3. The New (empty) document disappears, only the older document is open. I must now open a new empty document to write in. What I want to happen:1. Open new document2. Open old document3. Both new and old document are open (2 windows).Other notes in no particular order:- Word has always operated like this. Just wondering if there is a way to stop it.- I am not using the "Open" function in Word to open the older file, I am opening the older file by double-clicking it in the File explorer. When I use the "Open" function in Word, it does the same (basically "closing" the new file in order to open the old one). - I tried searching through Word's settings but couldn't find anything that seemed to relate to this behavior.- As per regular Word behavior, the new document is auto-na... Answer:Microsoft Word Question (Opening old document closes new empty document)

Yes, you are right. That is normal for MS Word.Do this:Open a new document. Type something. Even a single space. Save it with a name you want. Now open an older document. Both documents can be on the screen or cascaded. If memory is not an issue, you can haven two instances of Word.

Hi there, I have recently trashed and rebuilt my laptop as it started running dog-slow. I have reinstalled Windows XP, and added SP3. I have also reinstalled Office 2003 and Norton 360.

As a next step I wanted to check for updates to Office 2003, so I went to Microsoft Update and 3 are found (Office 203 SP3, Update for Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter [KB951476] and Update for Office 2003 [KB907417]).

However when I download and try to install these updates, I get an error message saying that they were not installed.

I have parked this for the time being and tried to install Windows Live Mail with Windows Live Messenger. The install failed so I saved the install files to my desktop, but each time I get the same error message - they all fail to install.

Can anyone help me understand why this is?

Answer:Office 2003 SP and Windows Live install problems

I have now tried completely turning off my firewall but I still get the same problem, the updates won't install.

Could this be a problem related to compatibility with Service Pack 3 perhaps?

Dear Forum,

I have noticed in my control panel the following programs:

Windows Live Essential 2011

Windows Live Mesh - in various languages

Microsoft Silverlight

I have read in various items on Google and I am not too sure whether or not to delete the various programs and what they do?

Could someone please assist me on what I can delete or keep?

Should I consider deleting any of the programs on the following skydrive items?

I am looking at cleaning up how much is on my computer that is not required.

Answer:Do you require Microsoft Live Mesh, Live Essentials and Microsoft Silv

Live Mesh is no longer supported. It was replaced by SkyDrive.
Silverlight may be needed to watch some videos, mostly on Microsoft Sites.
Windows Live Essentials has a number of programs among them Windows Live Mail Client, Windows Live Movie Maker and others.

Answer:Editing a scanned document

Hi, You need to scan again using a proper OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Many HP middle and high end printers have this software but not on many normal low end printers. Depending on what is your printer, you may have to buy an OCR software - thereare some freeware around:    http://free-ocr-to-word.en.softonic.com/   http://www.free-ocr.com/ Regards.

I've scanned a document with ABBY Fine Reader 5.0 and want to edit it by breaking some long solid paragraph instructions into separate lines. The original document is single line spacing but whenever I insert the new line command it goes to double line. Format-Paragraph-Spacing shows single even in the areas where I have created new lines that are double spaced. I've tried copying into a new document but although it copies as single line it still goes double when I use the new line key. I'm using Works 6.0.

I have a Lexmark X125 all in one printer, scanner, fax and copier. I scanned a document which I wanted to edit and was unable to do that. It scanned as a .jpg file; then I attempted to scan it as a txt file but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions, or is this something I am unable to do?

Thanks

Answer:editing a scanned document Help!!

You will need to use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Most scanners come with software which includes at least a limited version of OCR.

Be forewarned...OCR does its best to figure out what each character is during the scan but it's never perfect. Even the high-dollar OCR stuff makes some mistakes.

OCR also tends to fail miserably with heavily formatted documents...tables, forms, lines, boxes, etc....and with that sort of page, it's often faster just to recreate it in Word than to spend the time fixing the errors in the scanned version.

Finally, the better the original, the better your chances of getting a decent document to work with. Faint letters, smudges from copier toner, stains and even colored paper will add to the software's confusion during the scan.

Hi

I transferred some perosnal files (.rtf) from my corporate laptop(XP) to my laptop(Office 2007) and then from my laptop to a third laptop(XP). When I try to open this .rtf file in this third laptop, the file opens but does not allow me to do any type of editing - it does not allow to copy the contents of this file, the .rtf simply closes without giving any warning or error message. I've too many such .rtf files and cannot afford to live with this problem. I urge you guys to provide some way out of this frustrating problem. I tried to save this (.rtf) file to word (.doc) file with a new name but it still does not allow any editing and closes on its own.

Please help.

Answer:Editing a scanned document

Hello and welcome to the forum!

When you scan a document you basically take a picture of it, pretty much just like a photocopy.
If you want to edit the document you need OCR software (Optical Character Recognition)
Whats the make, model of the scanner so that we can check to see if the manufacturer has OCR software available.

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes - Microsoft Community

The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

Answer:Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

There is a document which has been created by myself then password protected with Tools/Track changes switched on.
This should keep track of any editing performed on the document.
Each editor is usually symbolised by different coloured text.

I sent it to Mr B who made some changes and then sent it back. His changes are shown by red text.

I now need to make some further changes before passing it back to Mr B.
The trouble is my changes are coming up red also, so we will not be able to distinguish who made which comment.

When you scan an image, the entire thing becomes an image. There is no text in the image.... there is a picture of text. As far as the computer is concerned, there is no text. If you want to change text in an image, you need decent graphics software and manually remove the colors, lines, and squiggles that represent text.

I have re-booted the computer but that doesn't change the situation. It will eventually release the document and open properly, without any effort on my part, at some random point in the future, 30 minutes later or the next day. You should be able to do a SAVE AS and choose a different name and then be able to open the new one.

If not, you can CRTL A and copy and paste the whole thing in a new .doc.

And I've never tried THIS but you might look into it.

Go to your (default) folder in Windows Explorer. Right-click it and hit Create Shortcut. Then, right-click the shortcut and hit Properties. Hit Change Icon. Give it the Open Office Document icon and also rename it to Open Office Document.

Copy or cut the shortcut.

Go to C:\windows\start menu and delete the old Open Office Document Shortcut and paste the new one in there.

This can be caused if the Google Chrome web-browser is installed and subsequently uninstalled -- it screws up hyperlinks so they don't work in any other web-browser, and angry comments about this abound on the Chrome forums. It happenned on my wife's laptop after I removed Chrome when I discovered it had no print preview function - pants. The chrome forums indicated that the only fix is to re-install it (but you do not have to make Chrome the default browser). Indeed it did fix the problem for us.

"Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I went in and changed the permissions to allow all and the log in to this machine. I even tried starting it manually. I thought it worked because after I clicked "Retry," it began loading again. However, at the end it just said "Windows Microsoft office has encountered a problem" and it closes down.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit

Answer:Microsoft Office Installation problems

First, do you have any other versions of Office installed? If so, uninstall them first.

If 2013 fails to load after that, go into the services snap-in (type services.msc in the search bar of the Start button), scroll down to the Office Software Protection Platform service and make sure it is started. If it isn't start it, and try to install Office again.

If it still fails to install, go back to that service, right-click on the properties, and in the Log on tab, change the log on type from Network Service to Local System Account. Click Apply, OK and try to install it again.

After uninstalling the program from Add/Remove Programs, I continue with a re-installation of the program. However, when I reinstall MS Office 2000, I find that my customized configurations from the earlier installation remain instact, and I am trying to erase these customized settings.

Perhaps there is a MS Office 2000 file in the Registry Editor that contains the customized settings and restores them even after a complete uninstall - reinstall process.

Thanks for any tips on finding any wayward MS Office 2000 file/s on Windows 7 after an uninstallation of the program.

I have also tried a System Restore before the initial installation of MS Office 2000, but Windows 7 has only offered error messages during several attempts of the System Restore option.

This brings me back to trying to find any wayward MS Office 2000 files on Windows 7 after uninstalling the program.

Thanks for any tips.

Yes you will need to delete all the Registry Keys for Office 2000. MS errors on the side that you want your settings if you should re-install; by default MS does not remove them when you uninstall the software.

Whenever I try using an Office program (Word, Excel, etc.), it starts with Windows Installer and then says:
This patch package could not be opened. Verify the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.Click to expand...

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and tried to load a new copy of Office.
I was purchasing a new copy from an online software company and their tech support told me to uninstall any other copies.......... I had Office7 and Office 10 on my computer.
I uninstalled 7 but could not get Office 10 to uninstall.
I was on and off the phone for nearly 3 hours with 4 different tech support members and nothing they did helped and they showed little patience in trying to help.
They seemed to want to be off the phone as their primary objective and the issue I am having was secondary.

I tried uninstalling by going through the control panel then just right clicking then clicking uninstall... nothing seesm to remove this software.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your assistence,

Elfinsong

Hi....I had a bad trojan infection which Chaslang thankfully helped me sort out. When I got the trojan it stuffed up something in my microsoft office pro 2003 and Internet Explorer 6. Everytime I try to open an office document, be it a word file, excel, pps etc the file starts to open then windows installer starts because it says it needs to install a missing file..so I go through all that until it asks for the CD. I put the CD in then get an error message saying it cant find a certain .CAB file (the name of the file varies every time I have tried but it is always a .CAB). I can browse the cd and see the files ok....but windows installer cant seem to. So I thought ID just uninstall and reinstall...but the same thing happens and it wont let me.!!
As for IE6 if I try to open a web page I just get a white screen that says its loading but never finishes. Had to install Firefox just to get here.
I am running XP/SP2 with all updates. All current scans are done. I have a P4 with 512 mb ram , 2.8g processor, 120Gb hdd and a heap of useless programs made by microsoft!! Everyone is sending me files that I cant open!!! HELP!!!

I have Microsolft Office but the other day on any excel, word, etc. files I have saved, the icon is some generic icon instead of the excel or word icon. Then when I try to open the document, it doesn't recognize that it is word or excel and asks which program I would like to use to open it. I pick excel from the list and it opens but I'm not sure why it is doing this.

Do you know why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks.
