saving server outook emails to desktop

Question: saving server outook emails to desktop

I would like to know how to import or is it export my entire outlook email content to my desktop in a version that will last no matter what happens to the email server and access to it.
I have a mac as well as a pc. The pc has outlook on it. I do not believe I have outlook on my mac. Could someone explain step by step how I can save these emails? I want them to be saved as they are with no changes possible.
Thanks!
Nancy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is my scenario

End-user has a blackberry in which I updated the DST 2007 patch on it. On the PC side, I ran WindowsXP-KB931836-x86-ENU which updated the DST on the PC. I also ran Microsoft tzmove patch for Outlook. Both patch ran successfully. When EU enters an appointment in his blackberry at 3pm it shows up in his Outlook at 4pm. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Hi.. I have a number of Outlook pst files from different versions of Outlook and I want to be able to read and extract emails into a new .pst file for Outlook 2003 (or a number of .pst files as I have a lot of emails going back some years!). I also want to extract all contacts into a .csv file so I can transfer them into various other address books such as Outlook Express, XING etc. Anyone know of a really excellent application that will allow me to do this? Thanks Richard

I am having delayed emails to all our clients. Our setup is Exchange Server 2000, SMB Server 2000. The mail that arrives at the clients desktop cannot be viewed until the user interacts with outlook. Then 3 or 4 emails come at once.
Has anyone got a clue why this is happening and how I can correct this?

Thankyou...

Hello!

I want to save a few emails to folders on my PC but I'm having a bit of trouble. I have AOL, I was given instructions to save emails on another forum. Apparently there should be a list of titles at the top of the email- file, save etc. Obviously you use the save one to download it to a folder but there doesn't seem to be such button.

There is a way of saving the email but that only saves it to a folder on AOL which contains old emails- I need to actually download it to my documents or somwhere.

I'm not sure whether the setting on AOL are different, can anyone help me out? I'd really appreciate it!

Can you please tell me how you save outlook express emails to a disc please. Many thanks Daveym

Answer:Saving emails

If I want to save any e-mails I use the standard file save as option when reading the e-mail. In fact I have created a folder in my documents specifically for e-mails that I wish to archive. I can then back this folder up easily to disc. I rarely keep any e-mails in the OE folders, other tyhan for short term storage.

Suddenly Windows Live Mail has gone erratic in saving emails in Sent Items. Problem just cropped up in the last few days. The option to save-in-Sent is checked.

Doing several tests of a series of three emails sent to the same address, it generally does not save the first one but DOES save the subsequent emails. Have run this test several times with the same result. For some reason, it skips the first one sent to an particular address but then saves others sent immediately. However, after an interval of time, another new message to that same address will not be saved the first time it's sent.

The messages are being sent -- I have received those that I sent to myself (to another account) and friends tell me they have received messages that I know were not saved to Sent Items.

No changes were made to Windows Live Settings prior to this problem arising. It was working fine a week ago.

Any ideas?

Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Windows Live Mail 2011 Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513)

Question: Saving Emails

I am a real estate professional and as a matter of practice I save all of my emails for each real estate transaction. Each property has it's own file/folder. Some of my files have over 300 emails. I would like to be able to save them to a CD. I use Hotmail. I do not have Outlook. I have a Dell PC at the office and an HP laptop at home. Both operating systems are Vista. Thanks for your help.

Answer:Saving Emails

hmm... I never used hotmail - does it let you export the email in some way? The other option would be to forward them to account that you can access via outlook or something, and then save the emails that way. But you're probably pretty safe leaving them on outlook, they're probably not going to dissapear any time soon.

Hey All,

I am working on a server and recently two of their mail accounts have began not sending out email. When I first looked into the outbound box, the mail I sent out is still pending. It usually takes anywhere from 1 minute to several hours to for it (Argosoft Outbox) to be delivered. Also, when I send out a email to that particular a particular address, it will just sit there.

I have also done scans with AVG 8.0 and found that it had I-Worm/Bagz.D infection. I quickly quarantined that infection as to not allow to infect other files on the pc / server. I have also done a Hijack This Scan, please can someone look at this and tell some about what I am making out.

Reason I need to do this is they're giving us massively less space for emails.

very often when I try to save whatever is on the screen it won't save.  I believe it started with Linked and now it affects whatever may be on the screen.  Ithought it was a virus or a lock but it doesn't make sense.  Some stuff will save others not.  I'm 73 and relatively new to this technology, so don't laugh! What I've had to do is copy and paste onto word then save that. Thanks

Answer:Saving data, emails, anything

Here you will find others that have the same problem.  Myself, for one. I am now 76 and have been classified as 'legally blind' for several years. So I can not drive a car and I get a slight bark on income tax. I need to use a computer in order to read without a lot of  eye strain and neck pain.I used to copy and paste stuff from the current view and paste into notepad. That way I could enlarge the text for better visibility and not be hindered by pop ups and overlays.Recently I  notice some website do something to make it very hard to copy and paste a part of a web page. To date I have not seen any explanation of this. The only work around  I have is to use the 'select all' option. I use ctl-A to select the whole page, including what is not in the current view.  Then I  have to paste into notepad and look for the part  I wanted to read.  Yes, the browser has a zoom feature that helps. But graphics and scripts do not work well with high zoom settings, Like a 4x zoom. It gets to be a mess. When I paste into notepad, the graphics and scripts and special effects do not transfer. I get  just the text. For some reason some websites do not allow me to select a portion of the ext. So I have to select all.Maybe this would help you.  EDIT: Tthis search may help also:why you cannot select text in a web page

I like to keep a copy of all emails I send, but with Hotmail that means remembering to tick the box at the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to set Hotmail to automatically save a copy of ALL sent emails?

Answer:Saving Sent emails in Hotmail

According to Hotmail, there is no other setting:

To keep track of messages you send, you can place copies in the Sent Messages folder.

1. Go to the Mail page.
2. Click New, and then write your message.
3. Select Copy Message to Sent Messages Folder below the message area, and then click Send.

<NOTE: This is from their HELP area>

I did think at one time there was an option, but I guess that is not the case (as far as I know).

I know I can create a new folder but this is within the email environment. I know that I can save attachments to another file, but not just an email.

Answer:Saving emails to My Documents.

Something I just discovered, after reading your post - but it probably won't help you - is that you can right click on an item in Outlook, copy it and then save it in My Documents. If you can't find a better solution, and if it's important to you, you might want to consider having your Hotmail and Livemail accounts forward to Outlook.

Hi

I use Windows Live Mail installed on my PC.

Is there some way I can save the emails, including any attachments
to a folder on an external dive?

Thanks

Daniel

Answer:Saving emails with attachments

Yes you can. Windows Live Mail stored all your mail messages with extention .eml by default in :
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\YourMailAccount\inbox

If a mail message has attachments, it is also included in the message. Just copy these files to the external drive.

FYI, You can also change the mail storage location to another drive:
File->Options->Mail->Advanced->Maintenance->Store Folder

If you create a new folder on say your desktop, select all the e-mails you want and then drag them to the new folder, you could then burn the folder onto a CD and reverse the process on the new machine.

I am closing my Hotmail account, but before doing so, I need to save some abusive emails I received recently that were part of a legal claim.

I am hoping to save or store these emails in such a way that they could still be viewed or accessed 5 or 10 years into the future if for some reason I still needed to pursue the claim.

I have printed the emails, and I am aware that I could easily forward them to another email address, with the source data showing when and where they originated from.

But from a legal standpoint I would have no proof that I didn't tamper with the emails before printing them off or forwarding them to another email address.

So basically I am looking for another way of storing or saving the emails which is a) legally foolproof and b) could definitely still be accessed in at least 5 or 10 years time if necessary (even if the technology changes).

I would be very grateful for any ideas anyone might have.

[I use a MacBook but I also have access to Microsoft Windows XP if this is at all relevant.]

Hi,
There are tutorials here for backing up different versions of Outlook:

http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm

Quote "This tutorial is designed to provide a quick and easy way to back up your Microsoft® Outlook® or Outlook Express® e-mail. For many of us, our e-mail is our lifeline to our business. It is important to make regular backups in case of a hardware or software failure. You never know how important your e-mail is until you lose it.
This tutorial will also provide a means to easily restore you e-mail and contacts. For example, you may need to restore your e-mail and contacts following a system rebuild or you may simply want to move your information to a different computer."

Hopefully one of these is suitable?

I've never tried what you want to do, so I don't know if this will actually work. The following is a Microsoft site concerning file corruption of Outlook Express. But you have asked where the files are stored, so this is an easy way to find them. The only section you need to be concerned with is the first one-Understanding Outlook Express Files. The directions on getting to the files are there. I suppose you could copy them to a cd or back up drive, and then after you finish with your disk, move them back to the OE file. Just make sure you write down the path to the files so you can copy them back into it. Someone else may be along with another idea for you. The info is HERE

Does anyone know of a good tool for saving emails from within Outlook as PDF docs? I am currently running Outlook 2007 on Win XP.

I have PrimoPDF. It mostly works, but gets quite a few errors, especially with equations.

I also tried PDFCreator. That was a disaster and they are spammers.

Here are a few that are available. Does anyone know anything about any of them?

Universal Document Converter ($69), http://www.print-driver.com/. This looks to be a powerful, multi-function tool.

Cute PDF Writer (free), http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp.

Answer:Best tool for saving emails as PDF docs?

Firstly, I would uninstall PrimoPDF. Once uninstalled reboot the computer then download the Community version of Bullzip. You can find the Community version about half way down on this page. Don't download the paid version.

You need to have internet connectivity as it will also download and install Ghostscript lite during the install of Bullzip. Once installed you will have a printer called Bullzip in Devices and Printers. You can print from any application using the Bullzip printer.

Here is a direct link.

I'm not aware of any plug-in. E-mail, by definition is supposed to be relatively instantaneous. How long do you usually leave an e-mail message open without saving it? How long does it take to write an e-mail message?

It's an interesting question, but one I'm struggling to figure out why it's necessary to answer.

At work we have Lotus Notes for our email program, (don't ask me why). Our IT department purges anything older than 18 months. My job is quality and accreditation and we are inspected every 3-4 years. I need to save these emails longer than 18 months to cover my butt, so if the inspectionm results in a citation I can point out I did my job by notifying the appropriate people and they failed to act.

Our IT people said to export them. When I tried to export them, I'm given a choice of exporting them in PDF or Word. We do not have a license for Adobe so PDF is out and when I tried to export the email as a Word doc, a two paragraph email translated into about an 18 page Word doc that had the text of the email intermixed with a bunch of gobbly-gook. I spend 15 minutes highlighting the gobbly-gook and deleting it to get down to two paragraphs and the original email.

My old employer allowed me to archive my important emails into various folders on our server, (which was always backed-up) so I wouldn't lose them. I have an external hard drive I can use if anyone knows how I can save the important emails to it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Answer:Saving Lotus Notes emails????

Create a folder in your mail and move them into that. I cant remember exactly what steps to tell you because its a year since i looked at lotus notes. But i had the same problem in my old work place and that worked for me

If you're using Outlook Express, the emails in it are already saved in your computer, including the attachments. In an OE folder.

This started yesterday - major issues we have noticed
1. When I go to several websites - I get security errors - I can log in but can't do some of the things I need to do
2. Emails do NOT save to anywhere (not the outbox- not the sent items - not other folders - even when specifically told to)-
3. Emails are in a weird format - show the formatting symbols within the body

We have run -

1, Virus scan - Avast - and updated it
2. Malaware bytes - and updated it - (found a few things and deleted or moved them - whichever it allowed us to do)
3. CCleaner

Have rebooted several times

ANY help would really be appreciated

Thank you

Hi,
This is my first time on this forum and i don't do forums in general, but I am hopeful there will be a good result from this as your answers to others' questions are interesting to me. This is a question I have had for years actually but it keeps growing.

I am trying to find a way of accessing old emails in their designated folders without keeping them in my email pragram on the hard drive. I bought a 40 gb external hard drive for my 3 yr old IBM T23 Thinkpad laptop (which is my sole computer) largely for this purpose. I have the role as archivist for several small charities as well as my own international consultancy and need to be able to find emails for information--sometimes critical at short notice (like on a conference call or in a meeting). I am self taught on the computer and have no IT support built in for any of my work.

About 6 months ago I switched from Explorer for Internet and Outlook for email. I am now using

Mozilla Firefox [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1]

and Thunderbird[1.0.2 (20050317)].
I have downloaded a fresh copy of Thunderbird onto my external drive (Eand I have copied what I take to be the main email data file [C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Thunderbird
836 MB (877,215,744 bytes)]

onto that drive. However when I access the internet from the E drive version, it is obviously working from the data on the C drive. How can i separate these so i ca... Read more

Answer:saving old emails for easy access

i use oe and outlook.

when you cross a fence to mozilla/thunderbird, use an external hd for emails how they're saved is everything.
are you using outlook at any more.

when i save emails on the single drive i "save as", some as emails and some as docs or pics.

the docs and pics come up like any other doc/pic and it doesn't matter where they're located.
i created "my docs" in my documents, already had my pictures.

when they're saved as .eml, you access them as email so the path/folder they're has got to be correct tying the external hd into the mix.

i create a "keepers" folder and some folks create a folder by name to save emails.

i'm not sure why you changed from outlook.

Using either Outlook Express v6.1 or Outlook in Office XP, I have a problem saving incoming and outgoing email. No matter in which format I try to save, messages are stored as 03 files with Photoshop logo. When Photshop is opened, it does not recognise the format. To avoid this problem I have tried HTML, Outlook Message, Text Only, etc. formats but cannot readily overcome the problem. My arduous solution to date is to copy the text of each message into Microsoft WORD and then save it. It's easy to forget this and then create an unreadable 03 format file. Any ideas. I run Vexira on my machine and update it weekly. I have tried reinstalling both Internet Explorer and Outlook but no improvement.

how do I save 38 pages on emails to an external hard drive? I have placed many in folders on the email page but can't transfer the folder to an external hard drive from the email page/ I know Ishould have saved as I went but usage and storage have caught up with me Thanks for help ( remember I'm somebody's OLD mother!!)

Answer:saving 38 pages of emails in bulk

No, Telstra isn't your client, they are your isp. The client is the program you can use on your pc to access your emails - Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, LiveMail etc. However, if, as I suspect, you don't actually use a client, but instead access your email via the BigPond website then I think you may be struggling to save all of your emails. AFAIK Bigpond deletes all emails over 180 days old unless you have done what you have, to put them into separate folders. I'm pretty certain that BigPond don't have an email export system like Hotmail .The only other way I can think of to download the current emails is to set up an email client on your pc using standard POP settings, then as soon as you connect your current emails will download to your pc, however you won't be able to get the emails in your folders this way. As an experiment, once you have your client set up, and the current emails downloaded you could try moving a couple of emails from the folders back into the inbox and see if your system download them before they are deleted.Edit: The links johnw got posted before I posted back explain how to set up your email clients, but the problems over your existing folders will still remain, so try the method I mention in the last paragraph."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Saving emails

I want to save the emails from Outlook Express to folders on windows explorer (windows 98 SE) as .eml files.

Outlook Express keeps the emails with the following information (depending on what choices I have checked in view/columns)

Attachment -
From -
Subject
Received
Sent
To

When I drag and drop the emails into windows explorer they are saved with the following information

Name (was subject in OE)
Size (same as OE)
Type (outlook express)
Modified (the date sent or received)

What I need is to be able to change what information Windows Explorer is showing so the information about who the email was From and who the email was To will be shown.

If anyone has any idea of how I can do that please let me know, any assistance appreciated.

Adios for now,

Daniel

Got a question.....a buddy of mine just bought a new computer and wants to transfer his old emails to his new box. I know how to save the emails in a .pst file in Outlook but can this also be done in Outlook Express? I havent seen his computer but I'm pretty sure he's using WinXP. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Saving Emails in Outlook Express??

There are options in Outlook Express for creating a backup, but it's a directory full of files...not as neat and clean as Outlook. You can do a search under his Documents and Settings directory for .mbx files, and that will show you the directory it's in. Move that whole directory to the same path on his new machine (assuming he uses the same user account on the new one.

I just did this for my fiancee, but I loaded Outlook first, and imported the mail into Outlook from OE. Then I made the .pst file, and convinced her to use Outlook on her new machine. This may not be an option, but if it is, go for it.

Is there a way in Outlook 2007 to save a collection of emails as a pdf document? Ideally, it would create something like a portfolio so the individual emails are easily identified. It would also be handy to be able to sort them up or down chronologically.

I have PrimoPDF. It will allow me to create a PDF of selected emails, but they are all run together. There is no option that I can see for making a portfolio.

I have A TON of emails under 4 different email addresses with Comcast and I use Outlook Express to access them.

I?d like to save all this to my local drive so that I will have access to them after I move to Verizon.

So, I ran it and I now have a bunch of ?.dbx? files and stuff on my C drive.

But ? how do I access these files?

I?d like to be able to open them and read them from my C drive ? is this possible?

Do I need to download another utility to do this?

Is there a 'better' (easier) way to do this?

I have been trying for ages to stop my Samsung Laptop (running Win7 with 6 gig RAM) from going through periods of running at a total crawl. At first it seemed to be the Print Spooler, then AVAST, and for a day it's been running at lightening speed as per normal. But now it's slowed again. 3 min to load Word, 4 mins for Excel, and 4 mins to load PCA's website!
It seems that finding the problem is beyond me so I want to start again with a 'back to new' reset. The only thing stopping me is my emails. They are on the comp in Windows Live Mail, and if I wipe the drive I will lose them. All other files/folders are backed up externally.
Is there any way I can copy them off the comp and put them back later after I put WLM back on?

Hi all, new forum member here and I thank you in advance if this has already been answered. I am rather enjoying the new Mail feature in 8.1 and it is "mostly" effortless to have all emails collectively in the one app. Problem I am having is I do sometimes need to send an email as an attachment to a web based submission form and it requires of course that I have the file/email saved locally so I can browse to it and attach.

I am completely stymied as to how to do this as there is no way to save locally (other than then the backup path in AppData which the App already does) just certain emails I would prefer to save them as either a .txt or .html or even just a plain old .docx file in My Documents folder, so I can then send it in on in a format preferable by the recipient I am sending to.

I read through this post here on the forums:

Mail App - Backup Email Messages in Windows 8

And while it makes sense, I still see no way to save a particular email other than as an .eml. Why is there not a simple feature such as save or save as within the Mail App itself?

Any guidance and help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Jordan

Answer:Windows Mail in 8.1 Saving emails to Documents?

There are several ways to do it that I can think of. The first and easiest would be to simply select all the text from the email and copy/paste it to a new text document on your PC which could be then attached to the web submission form.

Another way would be to print the email to a file. I have the free version of Primo PDF installed which installs as a printer on your machine. When I want to print to a file, I select Primo PDF as my printer and it outputs the printout to a PDF file. If you would prefer plain text then there are programs out there that would do that.

Hi All.......

When I save important emails in my files on the computer I simply drag and drop them into a folder from the sent emails folder.
This is great as viewing them again is just opening the file and up it pops in its own window.
Unfortunately a rogue file type has appeared in the form of [._EML] even though I am doing exactly the same process.
To open this file it references back to the sent emails folder which by then I have cleared so I can't read the original email........aarrrrrgggg !

It only happens to a very few emails. Has anyone any idea why its happening and how to stop it ??

Thanks for any help in advance.

Here are some things you can try.

Click on the desktop and press F5.
or
Righ-click on the desktop > view > and uncheck "show desktop icons" then check it again.
or
Reload the icon cache.
In windows explorer make sure hidden files are shown. To do this go to:
Tools > folder options > view > select show hidden files, folder, and drives.
then go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local (replace "username" to your username)
and delete IconCache.db
Then reboot.

Question: saving from server

Hi, i'd like to know how can i save files from a server to my local machine. The server uses the citrix ica client for me to connect to it. So far, if i'm using an application that is on the server (microsoft office, microsoft outlook, and files saved on the server), i'm not able to save the files on my local machine when i access it through citrix client.thank you in advance.

Having used Citrix before I noted this problem too. As far as I could ascertain from the engineers that saving to a local HDD via a citrix server is not possible. Anything you save will be saved on the citrix server only.

Hi folks,

I am having problems saving office documents to shared folders on a server. If i try to save a Word document straight to the server i get an error message "the save failed due to memory or disk space"(server has 4GB RAM and 179GB free space) , for Powerpoint and Excel documents when saving from them i get the error message "the file already exists, do you want to replace the existing file click yes/no (this is despite the file not being there already) by clicking yes , it then says cannot save file path and document name, the folder is marked read only. It appears in the folder but is 0kb.

I have set up this share folder so that anyone can put any documents into the folder but cant read them or delete them from their own pc. They can only access it from 1 particular pc which is used for meetings. Once the meetings are finished they can then delete them from this pc.

However i created a link to this folder on the server from my Intranet page to this folder and by saving the document to my desktop then copying into the folder via the Intranet link it works correctly.

i think the access rights are the problem and the the access rights for the folder are List Folder Contents and Write. I tried modify but by doing this i can access or delete files.

Can anyone help with this problem or be able to advise how to setup the folders i can get my setup to work correctly?

Thanks in advance

Warney

Answer:Problems saving files to server

Hi....

Can you provide more details on your access rights, both SHARE rights and direct NTFS rights assigned?

One thing I might add is that we have ran into this problem various times, mainly with larger Excel files. If you are working directly with the file from the file server, we get that error every now and then. However, if the file is copied to the workstation, edited, then copied back no problems whatsoever. Since it only happens once every "full moon" on our servers, I have never really investigated it any further.

Go ahead and provide the details on the rights. Also, what operating systems are you using; workstations & server.

Thanks!

I just received the position of IT guy part time at a company that's got a WAN domain setup. There are two office locations, and the domain controller (server 2003) is at a third location.

The issue is that everyone at one of the offices is on laptops using a wireless network to connect to the domain. In order to keep communications centralized and efficient, they save all of their word documents on a shared folder on the server (domain controller). They have a lot of issues with opening Microsoft office documents on the server and the temp files not deleting. They also have issues with documents not saving at times.

I'm not sure if these issues are centered around their wireless network, their ISP, or the fact that they use mapped network drives (I've never liked those) to access all the files. I need to find a simple, user-friendly solution, but I'm not sure where to start looking (there's a lot I don't know about Networks, although I already know enough to maintain their current setup, and I'm learning more).

Any thoughts on where I should start? Thanks!
