Solved: Removing email addresses from Outlook Express Email Groups

Question: Solved: Removing email addresses from Outlook Express Email Groups

I have a large email group - over 200 names - in Outlook Express Address Book. A number of outdated email addresses bounced back to me. I wish to remove them from my Group. But OE seems to list only names, not email addresses. I cannot find a way to search by email address. Therefore I am faced with the task of looking up each name's properties to see if it's the email I need to eliminate.
Surely there must be a better way!
Or should I just find a better program to use? If so, suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Removing email addresses from Outlook Express Email Groups

you can always use the contact search bar at the top, enter the email, then that corresponding contact should appear. delete that contact and it will be deleted from any groups.

When I send e-mail to a group (114 members) using OE6, each individual address is received by every member of the group and they all have to scroll down past all of these addresses to the message. Is there a way to change this so that all recipients only receive the group name? or at least DON'T receive everyone elses e-mail address.

Answer:Outlook express 6, email to groups

Start a new email. On the menu toolbar, click on View and All headers. This put the BCC (blind carbon copy) header above the Subject box on your email.Click on the address book next to BCC and select your group name from the list which appears. Make sure you add the group name to the BCC box on the next screen, by clicking on the BCC -> button in the middle of the screen,Click on Ok and then send the email as normal.Post again if this doesn't work.Scott.

Please help, I?ve got a NTWORLD email account and would like to add additional email addresses to the existing account, it says I can have up to 5 different addresses, can someone tell me the best way to do this, using Windows XP and Outlook Express as my Account.

Firstly click here and add extra mailboxes. Then setting up email on outlook you should go tools/accounts/add/mail then follow the wizard for each e-mail address ( and is what you should use just in case you didnt know).

If I'm right in thinking you want your wife's email under your login you have to create a new identity in oe which you can do if you go to file-identities-add new identity, then this will take you through a wizard to do this, askng for pop3 acount name and smpt info etc etcThen when you or your wife wants to check email you open up oe and click on file then switch identities, click on your wife's name then ok and you should be able to receive her mail only, or visa versa.I assume you are using oe6.Good luck bretsky;0) ps:hope I have got hold of the right end of the stick here!!!!

Ok my outlook express use to save an email address if i typed it in about 2 times to where after that all i had to do was type a few letters and the email address would pop up for me example:

[email protected]

type that in once or twice then

only hafta type

[email protected] would pop up the the to: box for me to click on rather then typin out the full address.

for some reason it does not store these anymore and i am forced to type the same emails out all the time everyday.

how do i get it back to normal?

After moving Windows XP from one drive to another, my address book has "lost" about 500 email addresses. The address book folders still exist, but a large number of entries (not all!) have dissapeared. I have a copy of a message sent to all the missing entries (they are shown on the on Bcc: list when I click on message properties). I can cut and paste the text manually into the address book, but that will take many hours. Is there a way to automatically add them back to the address book? I set up a new domain and made two new email addresses for it. The domain is hosted at Hostgator.

I set up accounts in OE for both email addresses. When I test them, I am able to receive emails sent to them, but I can't send emails from them. When I try to send from them, I get this message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '[email protected]', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I spoke to Hostgator support. The problem seems to be with OE because they told me that both sending & receiving to these addresses works fine when they test them by accessing them online (with Squirrel or the other online options they have)

Any idea what is wrong & how to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:Outlook Express Receives But Can't Send For Two Email Addresses

Try setting your SMTP port to 587.
Tools>Accounts>Mail tab>click account name>Properties button>Advanced tab.

Edit: Just double checked on the port and it should be 26.
Also on the server tab of Properties, place a check by "My server requires authentication".

I have bought a new computer with Windows 7 preinstalled. Before setting it up I backed up all my outstanding emails (204 .dbx files) and email addresses (one .wab file size 176kb) from my old computer on to a memory stick. I now want to import them into Windows Live Mail. I have gone through the recommended procedure for the emails, but only some of them have come across. I have been totally unable to import the addresses. The only procedures I have found seem to relate to a different version of Live Mail because they tell me to click on things that don't appear on my screen! Can anyone help?

It occurs to me that maybe not all the messages are being imported because I haven't imported the relevant contact details. Could this be the case?

By the way I can't go back to the old computer as it has completely died, which is why I replaced it.

Is there a way to gather all email addresses (either from, to, or cc) in a particular email folder in Outlook and store them in a delimited file? Alternatively, is there a way to add all email addresses from all emails in a particular folder to Outlook Contacts or to the Outlook Address Book?

I installed Outlook on another computer and can't access any of my contacts. I guess Outlook does not save the contacts automatically when I send someone an email. How is the quick search address installed. I think it is when I send and email to someone it remembers their address and then I can just type in the 1st letter or two of their name and will show me the email address. I replaced the PST file with the old PST from another machine. If I put some contacts in my address book shouldn't I just be able to start typing their name in a new message and the email address show up. What is the cheapest/best program for extracting email addresses in outlook from inbox/sent messages. It doesn't seem like the address book is talking to sending someone and email like it does in hotmail,Gmail. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is there a limit to how many email addresses I can paste at one time from an Excel list into the To: field of an Outlook email? I've tried pasting 1200 at one time and it appears to work mostly fine, but there are occasional quirky results that makes me wonder if I'm pasting too many at one time.

Answer:Pasting email addresses into an Outlook email

I don't know the limit but OE have a limit to how many characters a text field like the TO: can hold. If you're copying 1200+ emails into a field you could be hitting that limit.Remember OE is a personal email client and not designed as a mass mailer.

I have Outlook, Office 2007, Vista on my personal laptop which is not linked to a network. When I enter recipients for an e-mail, usually by first name, a selection of e-mail addresses pops up. If I do not select one, the program selects one for me, and expands the name I entered to a name from my Contacts, with their e-mail address. Currently whenever I e-mail my friend Dan, the system either selects the e-mail address of my friend Dan that I e-mail often, or it brings up an e-mail address that I don't recognize and is not in any of my contacts folders. I have to remember to watch that it picks up the right e-mail address. I have had this problem also with friends that change e-mail addresses. The system will repeatedly bring up the old e-mail address if I do not remember to watch it and select the new address. These old and unknown e-mail addresses do not go away, and I have to watch what is picked up. These addresses do not exist in my contacts or address book. I've tried right clicking on the selection to see if I can delete the old, or unknown, e-mail address from wherever its coming from, but it doesn't do anything. Where are these addresses coming from and how do I get rid of old and eroneous addresses in this file so they aren't picked up accidentally?

Answer:Solved: Outlook picks up Email addresses not in Contacts

Hi BlueCat29,

The names are coming from Outlook's auto-complete cache.

When the list appears, use the cursor down-arrow to move to the name you want to remove, then press delete.

This is good to do when Outlook has remembered a previous invalid name.

Alternatively, to clear the cache completely you can delete file OUTLOOK.NK2.
Start button then select Run and then type %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Outlook and press OK
Delete the above file from the list that appears.

If I were to add a email address to the Mail app on Windows 10 Creators Update, would I be able to remove it from the Mail app and not permanently delete the email address? I don't want to accidentally delete my Google email address from existence. Does just removing the email from the Mail app, just remove it from the Mail app or deletes the email for good?

Answer:Mail Question - Adding and Removing Email Addresses

Removing the account from the Mail app will not affect the account on Google or MS Outlook servers.
Its like deleting a bookmark on a browser.
Now if you delete or move an individual e-mail, when it syncs with the host it will update the server.

I have a friend with a freshly restored computer.
He can no longer read his Emails that have a ***.email attachment.
But ***.eml attachments work fine.

And his computer now works the same as mine, probably because I restored it for him.

If the ***.email attachment is read, OE doesn’t know what to do with it.
His Email with ***.eml attachments work fine.
If the ***.email attachment is renamed to ****.eml .. it reads fine.
If ****.email files are associated to OE .. nothing happens.
The ****.email attachments can be read in M$ Word.

So how would a computer be setup to read ***.email attachments ??
Is C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msims.exe the correct application ??

I’m curious why he’s getting these weird attachments from several sources ??

Answer:Solved: Outlook Express ***.email attachments

I'm not exactly sure why he gets these attachments. Some could be attached messages from people who use MSN. doesn't say too much, but does mention that they are easily infected with viruses.

You should be able to open these by creating a new file type with an email extension. (Tools, Folder Options, File Types) Just use everything that you see listed for the .eml file type. The program would be "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /eml:%1

An alternative would be to use Regedit. Export the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.eml] key. Open it in notepad and change the eml to email. Now doubleclick to merge.

Answer:Solved: Outlook express cannot delete email

Hi Evil..eva

Locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.
Close Outlook Express.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to that directory.
Locate the Deleted Items.dbx file and rename it Deleted Items.old
Start Outlook Express, a new Deleted Items folder will be created.
See if you can delete messages.

Let us know if that works for you or not.
Also, keep the Inbox empty, move messages you want to keep to folders of your own creation in Outlook Express. Otherwise, you risk losing the contents of the Inbox should it become corrupted.

Hey everybody

I've recently setup Outlook Express for POP3 with my email accounts. It is working great, except I have to leave it open, in order to know if I have a new message or not.

I am used to have a program such as Gmail Notifier, that alerts me when a new message comes in, and where I can click on "Go to Inbox" to go straight to my mailbox.

Is there a similar program that can do this for Outlook Express?

I configured outlook express exactly the same way as thunderbird. Thunderbird is working flawlessly but im getting an error message saying "the host blablabla could not be found. Please verity that you have entered the server name correctly, socket error: 11004, error number 0x800CCC0D." I triple confirmed that I entered the server name correctly and all the settings are identical to thunderbird's.

I'm running Outlook Express on Windows XP Professional. When I send an email the message is sent with an undisplayed warning and the message remains in the Outbox after it has been sent resulting in it being continually resent until I manually delete it from the Outbox. A copy of the message is not saved to the Sent Folder even though the option is checked.I have run Nortons Utilities - and other utilities - and cleaned up Windows Registry and other Windows Errors - to fix my problem (without success). Is my Outbox damaged? Do I have to restore Outlook Express? How? Could anyone please assist. me.

I wonder if anyone knows in what order email messages are filed in the folders in Outlook Express? I have set up folders for all my email messages but it seems they get filed at random, and in no apparent order. I was trying to get them filed so that the latest messages are on top (as in Yahoo Mail), but I searched all over and couldn't find a way of doing this.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Express Email Messages Organizing

Hi toujours

If you would like the most recent messages to be listed at the top, click on the Column header Received, clicking it again will toggle the order from Ascending to Descending.

If in View>Current View, "Group messages by conversation" is checked, then the messages will group themselves and be a bit harder to locate by the date. Deselect the "Group messages by conversation" so that the most recent messages will be easier to find.

A similar question was posted on 19 Sep 2007:
message/partial outlook express
Hi.....I'm asking on behalf of another person so will try to give as much detail as I know...The problem is with her email program....outlook express...when she replies to an email I receive it in this way...."message/partial" I receive about 4-5 emails from her one reply and it is all written in gibberish.....looks to me like her original reply is being broken down into several emails. Seems to be when she is replying to an email that has had pictures embedded in them.[added 5 sep 07: I received an email with attachment with as 30 unuseable files with .dat extension. I hope someone can help.]

Answer:Solved: Outlook Express /Multiple partial email

Usually emails are limited in size by the email provider.
Perhaps 10MB or so. Outlook Express and Windows
Mail have a feature that allow even larger emails to be
split into pieces. Either program will re-assemble those
pieces once all are received. Other email programs
may not have that ablitity, such as Thunderbird.

To make Sure Windows Mail or Outlook Express
Does Not Break Emails into Tiny Pieces

It is still best that emails containing pictures have those
pictures reduced to approx 30-100KB each and not send
so many that it runs over the limit allowed.

I've just had a problem with Outlook Express that I've never encountered before. When I right click on a document and select Send To, and then Mail Recipient, I get a message now that says-

No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon in the Contro Panel.

Could this have been caused by any of three new security updates from Microsoft yesterday?

I tried to remove them but it cautioned me that several programs on my computer may not work properly if I uninstall them. I send files to lots of people and I don't want the hassle of of creating a new profile every time I do.

So yeah, i still pay for my hotmail email just for the option to be able to use it with outlook Express (OE6)....without POP3.
Long story short, MS is killing OE6 ability to work with hotmail as of Sept 1. 2009!!!
(well except for POP3 access which i cant stand)

I liked thunderbird and the bat, but i really love the abilty to have totally separate identities like the OE6 offers. Not to mention the ability to password protect the entire identity / email client if wanted to with a password. (Without even being able to see any previously downloaded emails and whatnot)

Those are my two main things that i love about OE6 that i surprisingly have yet to find in any other email client....thus why i am still using OE6....and paying for a hotmail email.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Ill have to start my email client search and trials's been about a year since i looked at anything else other than OE6.

Thanks for reading.

When I am in FireFox and Click File/Email Link, Outlook Express used to open in the new composition window.

Two days ago I ran Outlook and it made itself the default email program in both FireFox and IE8.

I was able to just change the email program in IE8 to Outlook Express and when I send a page by email the new composition window opens fine.

In FireFox I made a similar change but instead of opening a new composition window, it just brings up the Outlook Express inbox window. Then I have to start a new email and go back and copy the link blah blah blah.

Before I ran Outlook FireFox always opened the Outlook Express new composition window just like IE8.

How can I get that back?

I have a question about emails can you save them from Outlook Express 6 to lets say a thumbdrive. I have Windows XP Home and would like to place a large amount on a reviewing source figuring that a thumbdrive would work. Is the .ext on the emails from Outlook Express able to be copied. I tried to Cntrl A and Cntrl C but when I opened them they had the HTML coding above the email message. Should I copy them to my desktop, if so by what means? Then with explore move them to the thumbdrive?

Any thoughts.... Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
David L.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Express Email saving to thumbdrive

For single meesages in outlook express you can click file, save as, and save the email anywhere you like as an .eml file which can be read on it's own.
For saving emails in the same manner en mass :-
Create a folder on your desktop and give it any name.
Then open up outlook express. Once opened, minimise it a bit (dragging the programme window edges in) so you have the outlook express window open big enough to see the message headers, but small enough to see the folder on your desktop. You can then drag the messages, by the header/subject line into the folder. You can select multiple messages by selecting the first e-mail, then whilst holding down the shift key, select the last e-mail in the list. All in between will be selected. Then drag them to the folder on mass. You can select multiple random messages also by holding down the control key whilst selecting them, they all stay selected this way)
Copy/move the folder to your thumb drive.

I must have deleted something crucial, because now when I send an email to anyone, and click onto INSERT, the page of photos does not come up as it should, and instead there is a blank page which doesn't move. I received an email yesterday & when I clicked to read it, Outlook Express seized up. I got the "(Not Responding)" message at the top of the screen. When I try to close it I get the smaller window with the option to End Now or Cancel. This also happens when I try to right click to delete the mail.

I've noticed that in the "To" column it reads "monthly newsletter" instead of my name or email address. It also has an attachment but obviously I can't find out what this is. The email is from a company that has sent me emails in the past with no problems so I don't think it's anything malicious. My spam filter recognised it as safe anyway.

We are on a exchange server here in our building.
And one person is having an issue with her outlook.
When typing in a address that she has never done before she would have to hit the Check address button. It would then find the right name in our contacts on the server.

She could do this one day or right now and add them.
Then cancel right out of the email and go right back in and start typing the last name and it fills.

But she says she has done this yesterday and today you can not type in the last name you would have to hit the check address button for it to go out and find.
I did add someone in on 5 days ago and they are still available.
But like i said the one she did yesterday is not.

Is there any registry fix or removal to get this working?
I have done a repair on the Outlook, but still the same.

Answer:Outlook email addresses

(I hope I'm understanding this problem correctly and not wasting your time)

It's possible that the person originally entered a space or something before the recipient's name. That has happened before at my job. Then when the end user enters the correct recipient name, it isn't found.
To fix this issue, you need to have delete the recipient's incorrect name when it is auto-populated in the To: field.

New to Outlook XP. When i enter a name in to the "To" line, SOMETIMES it fills in the persons fax info instead of their email address. This is no big problem, but is there a way to configure Outlook, when addressing a new message, to only suggest/fill in, the email address of the contact?

Answer:Outlook XP email addresses

I have to deal with this situation all the time.

Outlook will show you all of the email addresses and fax numbers, etc., for a given contact in a list (Contacts or a file or folder which is a sub-folder or file under Contacts.

My solution, at work, because I need to be able to send: email, individual faxes, and use an email service to send broadcast faxes (faxes of the same content, like a Request For Quotation, to many6 recipients), my solution has been to create separate folders under Contacts. Then, in any one contact, I have only the email address or fax number, or email address for broadcast fax. In fact, I include only the fields in the contact that I need. So, in email, there is just the name and the email address. In the set of folders for broadcast fax, the contacts contain only the name and the emailaddress that the fax service wants. In the fax foldr, I use complete addresses, phone numbers, fax number (only one), but no email addresses.

This is, admittedly, a lot of work, seemingly a lot of redundency. But, then, when I need to send something, I have no doubt about what number or address I am using.

Good luck.

I have a couple domains, so I take the opportunity to give different email addresses when companies ask for mine. Surely I've given out 100 different ones by now. They come in to Outlook through a catch-all account.

Whenever I click reply though, it sends the message from [email protected]

I want a way to set it up so messages I send to, say, [email protected] come from [email protected] Also, some messages I don't want to contain my first and last name like most do (maybe just my first for places I think might try to contact me later by mail, etc.), or mail I send to someone I think might get forwarded and end up with solicitors.

Right now, I did the show From field when replying, and I manually type the email address I'm sending "from" there. That sends it from this:
