Transferring emails from one Hotmail account to another

Question: Transferring emails from one Hotmail account to another

I've scoured the Internet for solutions, and while I've given countless attempts to no avail, I want to give this one last try.

I've mainly tried to use Outlook 2002 (as that's the version I have) by connecting it to my original email account. That went smoothly. Then I exported all my messages to a .pst file. Though that had some hiccups along the way, that also went smoothly. I then connected Outlook 2002 to my new email address - it received the few messages that were already there, so that was fine.

I then imported my original email messages via the .pst file into my new account (still in Outlook). All the emails showed up, in the right folders and perfect. The only problem now, is getting the Hotmail web client to recognize these.

I also forwarded all the messages as attachments as one email message and tried moving the attachments, but (though this sounds incredibly picky), it did not preserve the timestamps.

I've seen Windows Live Mail and am reluctant to use it, though I will if I have no other choice.

So, if there's any way at all to transfer my email messages -no matter how long-winded- that'd be great! If not, I'll have to cope with Live Mail or some other client, or without those timestamps.

If it's relevant, I am running Windows XP (SP2). If there are any other details I need to/should provide, I'm perfectly willing.

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Transferring emails from one Hotmail account to another

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm being spammed to death. So, I've registered a new Hotmail account. Now, I would like to transfer/copy all my contacts in the old account into the new account. Can someone please tell me how?

Answer:hotmail -- transferring/copying contacts to new hotmail account from old

Have you tried using the extensive filter and spam blocking on Hotmail?

If you are usiing OE also go to it and export your address as an .csv file then go to this url and import them to your new hotmail account.

http://lw14fd.law14.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/dasp/doaddressesimport.asp

I don't know if their is a provision to import them from your old Hotmail account.

I've just discovered that the house we are moving to can't get Virgin cable so I will have to change broadband provider. I will therefore lose my blueyonder email address. Is there an easy way to transfer contents of my inbox and sent items to my gmail account - just tried forwarding but it will only allow me to forward 8 at a time and there are probably a thousand or so as I have had the account many years.

Here's how you add your Hotmail account to your Outlook.com account. I don't know if you'll get your messages over or not. They're two separate accounts that can't be merged.

Hi guys, my hotmail account has recently begun to send out spam mails (I know this because of the tons of Postmaster Delivery mails I get every morning. I have checked my outbox, and unfortunately I see that it is truly this account that is sending out the mails, and not merely a spoof. I have already changed my password, but can't tell whether it has made a difference as of now.

I have not been able to identify what is the trojan/worm responsible for this. I used Spybot Search and Destroy in both normal and Safe mode, but it didn't turn up anything of note. Would really appreciate your help and advice on this issue!

Cheers!

Lumia521 May we know what error prompt, if any, are you encountering?
Whenever I encounter syncing problems, I just quickly turn Airplane mode on and off, effectively resetting all data connections (either both 3G (4G) and WiFi or either 3G (4G) or WiFi). In a few moments, all my email accounts (and other apps) begin syncing successfully.

I have 2 Hotmail accounts with MSN. My primary account I pay for (MSN Plus or something) & the other is basic and free. I'm paid up on the primary account.
I have 2 IBM Thinkpads, a T41(XP Pro) & a T21(Windows 2000). I opened Outlook Express this morning & found 1 new email-- from eBay (it had my correct user name so I don't think it is a spoof). I tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. A window says: An Unknown Error Has Occured. So I closed Outlook Express & accessed my primary Hotmail account through the internet. I tried to delete the message there. It seemed to delete and got as far as the trash but when I tried to empty it, it re-appeared in its original place-- as an unopened email. I was not able to delete any other emails.
I was able to send an email to my secondary Hotmail account.
But when I opened the secondary account & sent an email to my primary account, it was not received. Also, I always receive an email from Dictionary.com with a new word each morning and nothing came. So I'm concluding that somehow my primary Hotmail account is stuck or blocked.
Any suggestions are deeply appreciated. Thanks! -M

Answer:Solved: My hotmail account is stuck, not receiving emails

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

If the account was closed then the messages are likely gone. Unless you have them stored in an email program on your computer such as Outlook, Live Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or something similar.

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Answer:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

Not sure how, if at all possible, you can burn emails directly onto a DVD. One way would be to copy and paste the emails into a word document which can then easily be burnt on a DVD.

Hi, I have emailed myself some photographs over the years which I have taken with my mobile phone, some of which of course I treasure and although they are in a file/folder of their own within my hotmail, I wonder it it is possible save to :1. My external hard drive - so there is a back up and/or2. Could i transfer them into Finepix where my photographs are which are downloaded from my camera - making the easier to print. 3. Should I print them and then photograph the print with my camera and then download them onto the pc and then save to the external hard drive.Your help and advice would be very welcome as always. Many thanks

It used to be not connected to any email account but when it updated to 8.1 I chose to get an email address for it, so now as a result, the password has to be 8 characters long and I have to use a PIN number , but that's still 4 characters, and I usually use one character password.

So how do I go back to the normal type of user account to use the 1 character password?

Can anyone please suggest the best way for me to transfer all my Outlook Express settings and emails from one PC to another? Is there a free programme out there that does it simply and quickly?I am aware that i can backup my OE emails - but this doesn't save my settings too does it? And how would that work transferring those files to the new PC?A couple of weeks ago i asked a similar question about transferring Firefox settings, and was told about a great little programme that does it. If there is something similar i can use for OE that would be great. And if free even greater!Cheers for the help.

I'll have a new (Win 7) machine in the very near future but I'd like the smoothest changeover I can get, especially when it comes to transferring my emails over. I've tried the procedure of backing up emails in OE before, with horrible consequences.I currently use Windows Live Mail with a Talk Talk account. I prefer Outlook Express but that will not be an option with Windows 7 will it? The retailer I'm using often put Open Office on their machines (which I may need initially as my MS is too old to work on Win 7), so I could use whatever comes with that, if anything or, of course, Windows Live Mail again, but the main thing is to get everything transferred successfully.I don't really like Win Live Mail's habbit of putting certain symbols and smileys in when you type certain character combinations. Also, I'd prefer to stay with a desktop based client.Would the backup and retrieval procedure be different depending on which client I pick? I'm going to be cheeky and ask a couple of supplementary questions, related to th enew machine, but not to the email situation.Does DDR3 RAM come in a dual channel variety and if so is it much more expensive (as I have been quoted for DDR3 as opposed to dual channel DDR2)?It will be a 64 bit system. Might this raise any software issues? As for hardware, I've checked and my scanner and printer seem to have drivers, I just hope the external HDD, mouse and keyboard and monitor will be OK. I am sending this from my notebook running XP home and OE7. I often receive emails here but my main, desktop PC runs Win ME and OE5.5.

I would like to be able to copy the emails I receive here to the desktop PC. I though of using the File, Export, Messages feature but when I select this I get the message "This will export messages from Outlook Express to to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange". Neither of these is installed on this notebook so that idea fails.

Can anyone suggest a way to copy these emails? I have a USB pen I can use as an intermediary between the compters.

HiI know how to do this as Ive done it before. I locate the store folder and copy all the dbx files to a new folder etcI just notice when I do it this time, each file seems to have an icon I dont recognize; it could be an OpenOffice (which i use) type icon. Will this present a problem when I transfer them?h

Answer:Transferring Emails to new Laptop

The icon represents the application with which the dbx file type has been associated. You can check this is Windows Explorer. Tools - Folder Options - File Types. There are various programs that use the dbx extension click here. This will have no effect on the emails in the new laptop, where a different icon might be assigned according to what software is on the new laptop and what file associations might be made on it.

Basically, I've just got a new computer which runs Vista, and my old computer runs 98. I want to transfer all my emails from one to the other. The problem is, I've got a lot of emails; too many to do the good old drag and drop method...

Can anyone help me out?

If they are stored in Outlook express, select file, export and then save them to the cd drive, then go to your vista machine and open Windows mail, click file then import and select the cd drive.

My email comes into my carriers email program which is Windstream, I can then open my Outlook 2000 and after a few seconds it will start sending the emails into Outlook. The Windstream account will save its copy of the email and the Outlook 2000 will also have a copy of the same email. When the transfer takes place it always started inserting the emails from the top down, this way you know the email on the very top is the last one. Something has changed, and now the transferred emails coming into Outlook 2000 come in from the bottom instead of the top, how do I change it back to come in from the top?

I've just added my old 10gb drive (now D:) to a new PC with 80gb HDD (C:), and I'd like to transfer all emails from D: to C:, however, I can't find them - if I go to D:/Program Files/Outlook Express, there's about 16 icons, but nothing that says to me 'here are your emails'! Help.

Answer:Transferring emails from old drive to new.

Do a search for .dbx files. You don't say what your operating system is but from memory Win98 stores them in Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Outlook Express or similar. WinXP stores them in Documents and Settings\"username"\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\"folder with a long string of characters"\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Outlook Express. You can then copy these files to the outlook express folder in the same location on C: or alternatively, in Outlook Express you can go to Tools, Options, Maintenance tab, click the Store Folder button and select the folder on D: where you have found your emails.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

Hi mate

File/Import and Export/Export to a file/Personal Folder FIle (pst)/

Click on personal folders (at the top of the tree) and click on the check box - include subfolders

Choose a destination - a usb stick would be fine

Once finished insert the usb stick to the new computer and do the opposite ie

File/Import and Export/Import from another program or file/Personal File Folder (pst)

Choose the source (usb) and make sure you select personal folders and it should import all your emails accross.

Good luck

Any ideas, please?

Windows Live Mail tends to import mail into extra folders (rather than the default folders - Inbox etc). Check further down your folders list to see whether there are other folders lurking there. If so you can then transfer them to the correct destination folders.

Hey Tech Guys,

I would like to know if it is possible to transfer the emails from an Outlook account from one computer to another quickly and easily. I was hoping I would just be able to forward the messages but I have run into problems. Is there a place somewhere on the HDD where those emails from Outlook are saved that I could perhaps put them on a jump drive and transfer them to the new machine?

Hello

There is no email software installed on my computer.

There are links to two Outlook internet online accounts with their own passwords and email addresses.

I wish to copy (or is it import) all the folders containing emails from one Outlook online account to the other Outlook online account with the all the folders and emails being retained by the first account.

Can you suggest how this may be accomplished successfully ?

Regards

Flynne

Answer:Copy emails/folders from online account to another account

You can't export from Outlook.com. However, what you can do is add a connected account. In essence, you can open Account A, connect it to Account B, and then specify creating a new folder in Account A to access Account B, with all the sub-folders you require. You can read more about it here.

I had several hotmail accounts that I could view in the Nokia 930 windows 10.
I have not installed any apps (however there wsa an app that I do not know what was doing there with the text showing @\user\microsoft\windowsapp\ etc. the text was longer an I was not able to remove the app)
However the problem of the emails did not arise after the above app was mysteriously installed but happened before.
It looked like that one specific account was inexplicably confused with another email account...e when I was tapping on one Icon app of hotmail account I would actually read the email of another account.
My main Email setup account within windows phone setup had disappeared and when trying to re added it was saying that it was already setup.
Therefore I could only but hard rest my phone. I have hard reset it four times now and every time I setup the account with my main Email account everything is fine but when I add another email account it all goes wrong with similar variations of the above issue and now I even have an error message saying the account the I added
Now I am getting has the settings out of date. I tap FIX button there is some activity but nothing happens.
How can I fix this!!!

I have to take my laptop somewhere where there is no internet access at all, so I wouldn't be able to get to my e-mails (I need to be able to access my emails to document some events). I know I can just open up everyone of them and copy and paste each one to word documents, but is there some steps to simplify the process. Thanks for any ideas you have!
Thankful

Answer:Solved: Transferring emails (gmail) to hard drive

Hi thankful

You can setup Gmail in an e-mail client and have the e-mail client download the e-mails to your hard drive.
Copying and pasting would not be necessary.
Login to your Gmail account and click on the Settings link at the top right of the page.
Then click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
There you can enable POP access to Gmail.

Let us know what operating system you are using and we can determine what e-mail client you may already have available.

I have recently purchased a new PC which came with Windows Vista. I transferred all documents and settings from my old PC (XP), but find I now have my wife's favourites on my page as well as my own while she has none. I am now wondering if there is a quick way to transfer her favourites from my User Account to her User Account, or does she have to individually set up her favourites again? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Transferring from one User Account to another.

This is for XP, bu I guess it will be similar in Vista.Identify your wife's Favourites (probably in C:/Documents and Settings/Your name/Favourites).Highlight your wife's Favourites folder/s and choose 'Move this Folder' and use the Wizard to move the folder/s to C:/Documents and Settings/Your wife's name/Favourites.

I want to transfer a complete user account from old to new computer (using windows easy transfer, or other method), but there is already an account with the same name on the new computer and I want to keep that account. I renamed the account on the old machine, but the subfolder under C:\users kept the same name. Tried renaming the subfolder but that detached it from the account altogether.

Answer:Transferring user account with same name.

For security reasons the originally installed Administrative-level Account will not change it's User folder name.

You can try importing the old account anyway to see what happens, however importing User AppData settings is a corruption path so it's always better to start fresh in these cases for best performance.

I set up a personal account on my computer and a business one. I have hundreds of personal pictures in a folder on my main business user and want to transfer them to my personal. Can someone tell me how to do this?

Answer:Transferring Files From One Account To Another

This is very easy. On your personal account, go to (assuming this is correct on your PC) C:\Documents and Settings\<buisness account username>

and then you will see folders such as <username>'s Documents and Desktop. You can browse in this window to where the pictures are (probably My Pictures?) and select the one's you want and copy them/move them to the personal account's Desktop or My Pictures folder.

If you get Access Denied errors, then you could put the pictures on an external hard drive or a flash drive and move them that way.

Hi all,

Upgraded to W10 from W7 several months ago now and activated and used only the built-in Administrator account. Which is what I have done for many years now to stop the UAC popups.

However, I have soon discovered this Administrator account, while blocking the UAC popups has some serious limitations. Like cannot run Edge or any of the Metro Apps. Yes, I have tried the workarounds but they too have issues.

So how can I transferred all my settings for my programs and windows to another local username?

Any suggestions appreciated.

TIA

Greg

Answer:Transferring Administrator Account Profile

One thing to try might be Windows Enabler utility, which will enable the "Copy to..." button in "Advanced system settings -> User profiles" window. That should let you to copy you entire 'Users\Administrator" folder, thus handing it over to another user profile.

However, I'm not sure if there are any peculiarities in the built-in Administrator account that would prevent this trick from working properly.

My OS is Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and up to date. I share this PC with my daughter who normally has a limited account while mine is the administrator account. For some strange reason while uninstalling/reinstalling my Firewall, on reboot I have lost the Windows starting, Log-On, Log-off and Recycle bin sounds. All my other video / audio sounds are working perfectly and it isn't a fault with the soundcard.
In Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds, I have the appropriate sounds when I test them but the ones mentioned above are not working on my account. Answer:Problem transferring files to new account?.

on you acount you need to follow these instructions to make them unprivate

To make your folders private
Open My Computer.
Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:), unless you have more than one drive on your computer).
If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive.

Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
Double-click your user folder.
Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.
On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I have access to it check box.
Notes

To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
This option is only available for folders included in your user profile. Folders in your user profile include My Documents and its subfolders, Desktop, Start Menu, Cookies, and Favorites. If you do not make these folders private, they are available to everyone who uses your computer.
When you make a folder private, all of its subfolders are private as well. For example, when you make My Documents private, you also make My Music and My Pictures private. When you share a folder, you also share all of its subfolders unless you make them private.
You cannot make your folders private if your drive is not formatted as NTFS.

I have Windows Live Mail on two computers and use the same email address and password for both.

One is a desktop with Vista Home Premium SP2 and the other is a laptop with Windows 7.

I have a large folder section on my older desktop/Vista that I want to transfer to the Windows Live Mail on my newer laptop/Win7 so that no matter which computer I am on, I can store email documents in the proper folders and have a complete record on both computers.

For transferring I have a couple of larger flash drives and also have external drives for both computers.

Can someone tell me how to accomplish this please.

Thank you

Ok so I have a big problem...
I created a new user account on my PC. Then I transferred(dragged and dropped) all my files over to the new account, but for some reason now they are all invisiable/missing and cannot be seen or accessed.
I know they have not been deleted because the hard drive has the same amount of data space used and left over as before the transfer. I am using vista (64 bit)

The whole story…
Well it’s a big can of worms – that all started a few weeks back when my usual user account came up with the warning “The User Profile Service service failed the logon” Researching forums – the easiest solution I could find was to make a new user account and transfer the files over and delete the old account.  So I did this no problems and it worked fine.

Then I went away for the weekend and my wife used my computer, and when I returned and logged in it said “data could be corrupt do you want to run a system check”. Of course I said yes. Then it asked “do I want to revert back to a previous saved point”. I said yes.

Now this is where it gets tricky…
So my computer started up again from the previous start point. BUT this save point was before the actual date I had created the new user account where I had transferred the files. So therefore there was no user account to login it to.

I STARTED FREAKING OUT! I logged in to the other admin account (I always keep a spare) and found... Read more

Answer:All my files missing after transferring to a new user account

Did exactly the same steps. But after transferring the files I opened the folders and there was nothing there?

Do you have the chance of copying by externally the data before proceeding to this steps? Have you tried showing hidden folders as suggested in this link? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-PH/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

Hi folks,
Can anyone please tell if there's an easy way to transfer my firefox bookmarks and passwords from one xp account to another?I googled but it seemed quite a tedious process?
I deleted a couple of index.dat files from the admin account and they didn't go to the recycle bin? When I rebooted my main account was corrupt with my settings gone?I'll now have to transfer to my other account/profile and delete the "main" one.Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Transferring firefox bookmarks and passwords to another account

Don't know if this will work but it should. Open Firefox - Show all bookmarks (ctrl-shift-b) then on Import and Backup - Export to html - Save in public area or to memory stick. Close this account - open other account - open Firefox, Show all bookmarks again and import as html from saved location.

Cannot receive emails from hotmail users to my NTL email account. This is happening to a lot of people I know, and to others who have posted on other forums on the internet. Have contacted NTL tech support (in India!) and they are less than helpful, insisting it is a Hotmail problem. ALL other emails from ALL other providers are coming through OK. NTL server is clearly blocking Hotmail, but what can I do???

Answer:Hotmail to NTL emails

having been very pleased to leave ntl behind when I moved I must say I never had any trouble getting hotmail. Are you going direct to hotmail.com or are you using some other system to obtain your e-mails?
