Opera 9.26 vs Firefox 3 beta 4 - high CPU usage

Question: Opera 9.26 vs Firefox 3 beta 4 - high CPU usage

Ok a few interesting notes.. and questions.

I've noticed in FF3 beta 4, it is REALLY fast. Youtube videos load so much faster. In fact, I like everything about it - except one thing. I notice abnormally high CPU usage. I noticed this in FF2 as well. With three tabs open - yahoo, msn, and google, I notice hovering around 20-30% cpu usage. When I minimize it is still this high. When I close FF, it goes back down to the normal 4/5%. In Opera, it is around 6% with the same tabs open.
With youtube open FF takes up about 40% of my cpu.
Opera 9.26
This is a great browser and also very fast. However, for some reason youtube videos will not play. It will just get stuck on that circle of dots forever, and never play the video. I've been fussing around with the preferences.; The only things I changed were increasing the cache, and increasing total connections to 64.

Appreciate any help from anyone who's used both these browsers and can give advice,

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Opera 9.26 vs Firefox 3 beta 4 - high CPU usage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying out the new Opera 9 beta, and so far I love it. The only annoying thing is that it seems to take up so much memory. I've turned of the automatic page cache, but it still goes up every time I go to a new webpage. What gives?

Answer:Opera 9 - High memory usage?

Mine varies with 9. right now with a single page open, it's around 80 megs, but I'm not doing anything more than listening to music or surfing around on other sites. memory usage isn't a huge concern here. As far as I can tell firefox does the same thing. not sure why myself.

Only milliseconds separate Internet Explorer 9 from the fastest-browser-in-the-world spot. Microsoft released the final Platform Preview Build of IE9 yesterday, with v1.9.7.9.16.6000 now available for download for testers around the world. With the advent of Platform Preview 4, Internet Explorer 9 has suffered massive JavaScript-related improvements, with the new Chakra engine now a part of the browser’s core, but also with a boost in terms of JS performance. IE9 Platform Preview 4 1.9.7.9.16.6000 is now faster than the same of the recent Firefox 4.0 Beta 2 releases, and also faster than Safari 5.0. In fact, the latest development milestone of Internet Explorer 9 is the fourth fastest browser in the world, according to the scores in the Webkit Sunspider JavaScript benchmark.

IE9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari 5.0 - IE9 just milliseconds away from the fastest-browser-in-the-world spot - Softpedia

Answer:E9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari

IMO, once you get down to ~500 milliseconds, you're not going to see a real difference between browsers. For example, 450 and 550 ms are almost indistinguishable to typical human senses, as far as I know. But kudos to IE for finally getting in that range!

Help! My computer is whining like a freight train and I keep getting warnings from Norton antivirus that say "Warning High CPU Usage by Firefox" I have googled what to do but everything is confusing to me.

Thanks!

Answer:High CPU Usage by Firefox

Hmm have you checked if it really is using up high cpu usage? From my personal experience Google chrome uses much more compared to firefox. Maybe you've too many widgets/add-on's running at the same time? Try disabling a few see if it changes anything. Do you feel a difference though?

I'm not sure what is wrong with my firefox but it keeps useing a large amount of cpu from 80 to 100% constantly, then crashing. I've noticed as well that it will not load videos that are on some websites. I recently reinstalled firefox in an effort to fix the problem, it seemed to work until the next day. Internet Explorer works just fine but I'd rather use firefox. I've run a bunch of virus scans and etc, removed all cookies, and reinstalled as I said before is there anything else that may fix the problem?

Answer:firefox high CPU usage and etc

I have Firefox 3.6 installed with a bunch of add-ons for I don't know how long by now,but from maybe month and a half before I have experienced some new joys with it.It started just occasssionally, but now,it is almost regular that when I exit Firefox,Firefox.exe process remains running in task manager, and consuming up to 50-60% of cpu,and even almost a GB of RAM(and sometimes, there is even no this "almost",it goes way over).
I used to have problems with lagging every few seconds when running Firefox, and after few reinstalls,I get used to that and accepted it as unsolvable, but now I am thinking about trying Opera.
I am running Firefox 3.6,and about maybe 30 or so add-ons,and I think they are all necessary how much I am addicted to them.
So basically what is happening?
When I run it(Firefox),ram usage jumps to few hundreds MB for only few tabs, and after I close them all but one,I noticed that while cpu usage falls under 10% of usage, ram never falls down under cca 700mb.OK,that wouldn't be a problem, but CPU usage starts to jump from 3 or 5% all the way up to 60-70% altough only one tab with hompeage Google is open, and with usual lagging of Firefox on which I am used already it is causing major lagging problem, and PC is almost unusable. When I try to exit it,OK,I am out,but CPU still jumps up-down,and I have to manually shutdown Firefox.exe process in task manager.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall all add-ons,one by one,but nothing changed.
Does anybody have a clue wha... Read more

Answer:Firefox causes high cpu and ram usage

Well Firefox is prone to memory leaks and will consume a lot of RAM after a short period of browsing. Also, if you have a lot of addons, you can expect a lot of memory to be consumed. Uninstall any addons you don't use.

Then hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE inside of Firefox and clear the cache.

Does that help?

Anyone have any ideas as to why Firefox would use (for brief spells) up to 100% of CPU. And this with only one window open.
Every available scan for infection has been carried out and none have found any nasties so it does not appear to be about virus, trojans etc.

Ok, I recently reinstalled my OS (Windows Vista) since I had this problem about a month ago. 2 weeks after a total OS reinstall, I'm getting the same exact problem. The CPU usage jumps up 60%-100% when I launch IE or Firefox. Especially when I play a video on a website. RAM is being used at 42%. I've got a pretty powerful system, so I shouldnt be having this problem. Dell XPS1730, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 32bit OS. I've researched EVERYWHERE & see many others have the same problem. Please help!!! Thanks!

Maybe remove any add ons that you have and see if it makes any difference. If so you can always enable them again one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.

I go to Facebook, & yahoo to check my mail, maybe to Delphi Forums to check a msg there. Firefox is using an excessive amount of memory according to AVG & it asks me to restart the browser all the time after only like 15mins...I checked w/Mozilla, disabled the plugins & add ons like they suggested & NO changes, still same warning, same amount of time.
Ive pulled up taskmngr, & yes it uses like over 120,000 just on the start page, theirs.
So, I tried using Chrome with taskmngr up & it starts like 3 different instances of chrome.exe, so it pretty much is using the same amount of memory also.
I run CCleaner after the warnings usually thinking it will help, clean the cache, dump the temp files, & it does help it go faster for a min, then the warning comes up in a bit.
I do NOT car for IE. I do not feel it is safe, my opinion.
AVG scans every morning after I leave for wrk. I updated my graphics driver...
Im at a loss, this is irratating. 768mb aint that bad amount of memory...is this normal?
Do I have other options as far as browsers? I have never used Opera & not heard nice things about Netscape...so idk

Have recently upgraded to latest version of Firefox (admit I avoided doing it even when it at a older version, due to a prob I'd had before after an upgrade)

I keep getting the yellow diamond with! that my Virtual Memory is too low OR error messages from my system OR AVG saying that FireFox is using too much memory (can't recall how much). Recent experienced very slow loading, hanging up, crashes.

Also have IE8 (just said it's using 71MB) would there be a problem or conflict between the 2 somehow? FireFox seemed to be a better option for me in the past, so continued using. Need to resolve this, speed up program, avoid repeats if possible. Thanks!!!

How many add-ons are installed, and enabled? Try running with add-ons disabled. in Firefox go to Help > click Restart with Add-Ons Disabled.

Check your Page file size, Right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance Options > Change

What is it set at? If it has been set manually, select "Let Windows Manage ..." see if this clears up your issue.

Hi, I've had my laptop now for a few years and had no major problems, but suddenly as if overnight a few weeks ago, everytime I boot into vista my CPU usage is high when no applications are running, and when I run applications it becomes extremely high (When running just firefox for example it shoots to an average of around 80% frequently peaking into the high 90's). The memory is pretty much constanty above 1.2GB - 1.3 GB.

My specs are:

Laptop: Sony VAIO (Can't remember model number - don't know how to find out)
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual core T2370 @1.73GHz (x2)
Mem: 2GB
OS: Vista home premium 32-bit SP2

I've tried deleting loads of programs I don't use, windows defender scan (Found nothing), Updated avast database and did thorough scan of all drives including avast memory test (Found nothing), Defragged hard drive, did disk cleanup and freed loads of space on HD, installed all updates through windows update, removed loads of start-up items and restared windows numerous times to apply changes.

I've also tried checking in task manager the proceses which are eating up the CPU, and it is not highlighting any in particular when idle, yet still showing high CPU and mem usage in performance monitor. When an application is running it is shown to be using very high CPU usage, and they keep becoming unresponsive - e.g. when only firefox is running even with only a few tabs it frequently becomes unresponsve.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks

lately FireFox has been using a ton of cpu, i mean even idle it uses 70+ of the cpu and that slows everything down, the only tings i have changed were that i installed the new google tool bar and the IE extension, i took out the IE extension and that kinda helped, i took out the new google tool bar and everything is fine, if you are having problems with slow computer since the new toolbar try an older version, 1.0.20051122 because the trouble started when i installed the new 2.0 version. the only problem is that i can't find an older version, if anyone knows let me know thanks.

Answer:firefox high cpu usage (google toolbar problem)

ok i figured out the problem, when you install the new version you have to uninstall the old version there is some bug that makes it use lots of the cpu if you just install over it, so go to tools, extension, uninstall google toolbar and restart the browser. then reinstall the tool bar from here http://toolbar.google.com/ then everything should be fine again.

Hey MajorGeeks! :wave
Having an increasingly problematic and annoying problem. While running the latest version of FireFox, I cannot visit Flash intensive sites without the FireFox CPU running excessively high, sometimes as high as 99. Some examples of the culprit content are the game FarmVille and flash-type advertisements. I have had this problem using earlier versions of FireFox as well. When this occurs, some graphics have trouble loading and appear jagged, and speed (animation and navigation) grinds to a near halt. Tab or application switching similarly is prolonged.

I have tried uninstalling Adobe Flash Player and installing the latest version. This has not changed anything. Please advise me what I may try next to resolve this issue. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I've been having a very weird problem recently, in which I BELIEVE is involving high physical memory usage. Sometimes I will be doing things such as playing a game, or watching a stream, and my computer will run fine for a little while. But at random times, my computer will majorly slow down and sometimes even crash. If it doesn't crash, sometimes it will get so slow to the point where I have to hold down the power button and manually shut it down. Every time my computer slows down I notice it is using a TON of physical memory. It's actually happening right now. My computer is going very slow and it's using 6.22 GB memory out of 8. There are no big programs running right now, so I don't understand why it's being slow. I hope someone is able to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Update: I just tried to open chrome, and the computer froze completely. It would not unfreeze. After leaving it frozen for a minute or two, the screen went black. This is becoming very frustrating.

Answer:Very high physical memory usage, no high usage programs running

I'm running Win XP, and I was downloading some software over the last few days for popup blockers, and I downloaded Yahoo Blocker, Google Blocker, and then ran AdAware 6 [which I've since removed to get Ad Aware SE].

Anyway, I'm having very high CPU usage, and High Memory Usage in the Windows Task Manager. I keep closing dostask.exe because it keeps using nearly 90-100% of the CPU, and it keeps maxing out my memory which is 1/2 Gig.

When I start the machine, the system runs fine, but then it begins to climb. I close it, and it climbs again, and then repeat.

I also did a search for dostask.exe and found this file: DOSTASK.EXE-25D34F68.pf located in the F:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Any help is appreciated.

Important Note: F:\ is my main drive.

Can anyone tell me what I should do?

Answer:High CPU Usage & High Memory Usage From dostask.exe

You need to find out what is starting that dostask.exe and either remove it (if it's not something you use) or change the settings (if it's something you use). Read the stickied thread for more info.

The latest wave of upcoming changes to the world's two most used Web browsers, jointly responsible for easily three-fourths of the Internet's HTTP requests, has nearly everyone in the business rethinking the meaning of "quality" as it pertains to browser architecture. While their arguments start with the usual reminders that folks just want to see their pages load faster, before too long, they wander into dissertations about the methods architects use to achieve the appearance of loading faster. . . especially when they actually don't.

In preparing to test Microsoft's first Internet Explorer 9 public beta, released last week, and Mozilla's public Firefox 4 beta, released late last month, the advice I received most often fell into two departments: 1) Pay more attention to graphics rendering, since new browsers will be spending more time processing Web apps than just displaying pages; 2) start paying attention to how browsers utilize memory and CPU cycles. Since my smarter readers are typically right, that's what I've done in crafting my all-new browser performance test suite.

In the first round of total scores for the latest beta builds, the first IE9 beta has squeaked by the latest FF4 beta by about 8%. These scores take into account four major departments: computational ability (30%), rendering ability (30%), scalability (losing less processing ability over time as processing jobs scale up, 20%), and now, hardware utilization efficiency (20%). Answer:Firefox 4 beta loses to IE9 beta in browser speed, efficiency tests

I'm all for fast processing on my computer, but I'll be honest in that I don't really feel much difference whatsoever between IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera and it's been like that for me over the past 2-3 years. My reasons for liking Firefox so much have to do with features coming sooner (pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, add-on support, tear off tabs) and familiarity with the product(when you spend so much time with something, it becomes second nature.). So, for me, unless another tool comes that does something radically better, I'm not even inclined to give the other products a chance. People can rant and rave about speed all they want...but it's one of the lowest factors in the mix for me.

Question: Opera 10 Beta

Source Opera 10 Beta

The developers of the Opera web browser have just released the first beta of the upcoming Opera 10 Internet browser. The beta was available on Opera?s ftp site for a day and got finally announced by the Opera team officially in a blog post. One of the main improvements is the addition of the Presto 2.2 rendering engine which scores a 100/100 score in the Acid 3 test and adds support for several new web standards to the web browser including web fonts, transparency through opacity and SVG improvements.
The changelog lists many improvements and additions that have been implemented into Opera 10 including a new auto update mechanism that allows Opera to automatically update itself. This feature has to be enabled in the opera configuration. Easiest way to do is to enter opera:config#snapshots into the browser?s address bar and hit enter. The parameter needs to be enabled for the automatic update mechanism to kick in.

Answer:Opera 10 Beta

Yeah not to mention

Visual Tabs
New Speed Dial features. Can now customize it. Add your own background and adjsut how many items are on there from 4-25 items.

This is by far the best build yet. Love it already.

I visited...
http://www.freshdevices.com/

...to download an update to Fresh Diagnose -- a really nice program in the same genre as AIDA but [I think] better.

When I tried to download the update, it asked me to *register* my email address. I did so, and then was taken to the following page...

http : //www. freshdownload. com/ cgi-bin/ arp3/ arp3-formcapture.pl

{I intentionally busted the above link so you could see the whole thing}

The above page was blank. No download. Nothing.

The page is obviously a cgi to grab the email address I entered. THAT part worked because I got a message from fresh. However, the page couldn't take me to the download.

I tried 3 times. Turned off my Firewall. Turned off my AV. Lowered IE's security level to lowest. Nothing worked.

Then I tried it with Opera 7-betaa. Poof! I got to the download in jig time.

I have IE 6.0.2800.1106, SP1; Q328970; Q324929. Also I recently downloaded & installed the patch to the Virtual Machine.

I reported this problem at the Outpost firewall forum [thought the problem was firewall related] -- three of them visited the site & it was okay for them.

I have been unable to replicate this problem anywhere else except at fresh's site.

I run WinME. Is there a way to get IE to do the self-repair bit? OR..... what do you folks suggest?

aloha..........bellgamin

P.S. I like Fresh Diagnose so much that I went to web attack & downloaded the update. Still -- I sure would like to fix the problem... Read more

Answer:IE 6 can't do it but Opera 7-beta can -Huh??

Opera fans rejoice. The very first beta of Opera 9.5 codename Kestrel has been released to the public. The biggest change is a new feature called Opera Link which offers a way to access all of your bookmarks and Speed Dial picks from one place. It does not matter if you access the Internet with Opera 9.5, with Opera mini or another browser, the bookmarks are always available.
If you do use Opera Link with Opera you can synchronize all bookmarks with Opera while other browsers obviously only have access to the web version. The changelog lists a lot of changes since Opera 9.5 Alpha including heaps of changes to the Rendering Engine and JavaScript / DOM.
Opera 9.5 beta seems to render websites faster than Firefox and Internet Explorer. I could make another performance test to see if the tests show that my subjective feelings are right.

Opera has just released their 7.5 Beta in case anyone is interested in Beta testing. It's looks way different than ver. 7.2 Changes include...

=== Major new features ===
* User interface redesign *
This release includes a prototype design of Opera's user interface, which has been revamped to make it cleaner and more intuitive. The ad banner has been reformatted into an ad bar at the top of the Opera window. The main menus have been restructured so they aren't as cluttered. There's a new "Tools" menu for items such as managing cookies, contacts, and Wand. All toolbar customizations are now done through the Customize toolbars dialog. The main and personal bars have been turned off and the most used web page buttons have been moved to the address bar. Any toolbar can be set to "Show only when needed" (most useful for the Navigation and Page bars).

* Panels improved *
As part of the user interface improvements, Opera's panels are now more functional. The Hotlist has been renamed to Panels. The panel selector now defaults to the left and is always visible. Clicking panel names or pressing F4 toggles the display of Panels (ESC closes Panels). Panels can be maximized using Shift+F4, by clicking the maximize icon, or by double clicking on the panel selector. Maximized panels act as replacements for management dialogs used for things like contacts and bookmarks. All panels have toolbars and a panel selecting button at the top.... Read more

I got this machine to look at as it had unusually high CPU usage and the CPU fan tends to stay on high speed though the machine isn't running any applications or visible tasks- just idling. I note that it has Norton Internet Security on it with a full year subscription though I'm not a big fan of Norton or McAfee. I had some program called Internet Security 2009 in the language of German on it but used Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it- likely malware or rogue AV. I also see a CA eTrust Internet Security Suite installed in the systray though upon opening it says nothing is installed- this being after I click OK to a popup message "eTrust Security Center: calSS.exe - Unable to Locate Component - This application has failed to start because ISafeIf.dll was not found reinstalling the application may fix this problem". I don't have a copy of the application and AppRemover was unable to find it in its scan so I could remove it. Any suggestions on that one?

I have gone thru the registry and removed quite a lot of items that load at startup so the systray is pretty light now and some things have improved. I removed all of the Java and will put updated versions on after you give the "all clear". I just wanted to have some eyes on the logs to see if anything else needs to go and if someone has a suggestion of how to get this CA Security Suite off of here as I know too many of these programs is more harmful than good. You can allow RogueKiller to fix the items it found, but I am not finding any malware in your logs. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

About a year ago, I noticed that my computer was running slow (both online and off) and that the explorer.exe process listed in the Windows Task Manager was usually running very high. Windows Explorer seemed to crash a lot as well. A few months ago, I attempted to install Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 on my computer and before the install completed a warning window popped up saying something like 'there is already another instance of Kaspersky running' (which was not the case since this was the first time I had ever attempted to install Kaspersky software) and the install failed. When I rebooted my computer, I got the blue screen of death for a few seconds and then Windows booted with a message saying that Windows had recovered from a serious problem. Since recovering from whatever happened after the failed Kaspersky install, my computer is slower than ever and the Task Manager still shows a high CPU usage even though the System Idle Process is high and there isn't any processes listed that are using much CPU time at all.

I just scanned my system with the latest updated versions of AdAware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avira AntiVir. All of them found nothing. I then cleaned my computer with CCleaner and ran HijackThis.

Hello. First off, having utorrent effectively craps you out on this forum since it has a bad rep. Suggest you remove it and come back, start a new thread. That said, if you're familiar with Task Manager, check the CPU percentage on the processes tab (click CPU column to sort). This may help pinpoint which app(s) are whack.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Constant high speed CPU fan and high usage of CPU

Hi

I think some kind of background processes stress the CPU.
You could check this in task manager-> processes tab
Click on CPU column to get the processes ordered and to show all the processes which stress the CPU.

Closing or disabling such processes can help to reduce the CPU performance.

There is a serious issue with svchost.exe on my windows 7 computer. My HP Touchsmart 300-1025 has windows 7 64bit installed and svchost is slowing down the computer and using very high cpu and memory usage. It is not a virus or malware. I know the computer is not infected because one the computer has webroot and two if it was a virus or malware I would not be able to use the computer at all. So it has to be an issue with windows 7 64bit itself. Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about and proof.

The Opera UI redesign process keeps on going as we?ve added several tweaks, new icons and layout improvements. Here are the most important changes:
A new icon for start page customization
Speed Dial is now dark when wallpapers are disabled and dark theme is enabled
?View in bookmarks? button appears in bookmarks pop up if the page has been added already
It?s now easier to move a window if multiple tabs are opened on macOS. The clickable area between the new tab plus button and the tab menu button got slightly bigger.
Sound notifications are now turned on when the sidebar is unpinned
When importing bookmarks, items from the bookmark bar will appear in Opera?s bookmark bar
Macbook touchbar users can enjoy an emoji-enabled input field
New backgrounds
This beta release comes with a little something extra if you?re looking for the full Reborn experience. To complement Opera?s new look and feel, we have partnered with top industry artists Umberto Daina and Feridun Akgüngör to create a custom set of fresh, cool backgrounds.

VPN improvements
Also, Opera 46 comes with important fixes for the out of memory bug when using our built-in VPN and for an... Read more

Source Opera 10 Beta 2 Released

Opera 10 Beta 2 was released earlier today by the Opera development team. Users who are already using a version of Opera 10 should consider upgrading to this new release which brings it one step closer to the first release candidate. The changelog lists many changes for this release especially for the Opera user interface, mail, chat and news, display and scripting, security and network. The Windows changelog alone lists more than 100 items that have been added, changed or fixed in Opera 10 Beta 2.
Many users in the Opera forum are reporting problems with the new beta release. The developers are actually warning users stating that it ?may have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations?. That?s not very encouraging and it is therefor suggested to try the web browser in a test environment and not in a productive environment to ensure that it is working without problems.

A couple of new things
Speed dial extensions

Quote:
Speed Dial extensions transform your Speed Dial from a picture into live action! What does that mean? Instead of a static link to a weather web site, a Speed Dial extension can display the forecast for your specific location. In fact, we built that extension.
Speed Dial extensions are easy to make. All you need is a little tiny bit of web development skills.

Password synchronization

Quote:
Opera 11.50 beta has synchronization of passwords - made securely through Opera Link so you can log on to your password protected sites from anywhere. Opera Link also synchronizes bookmarks, your Speed Dial, custom search engine preferences, notes (yes, you can take notes in the Opera browser), typed browser history and more.

The Windows panel now lets you stack tabs the same as the tab bar.

I am using this new beta and I really like it. It seems very quick but I have one question. They have a Web GL version that enables GPU acceleration but it rates much slower than this beta on Peacekeeper and seems slower in real life. I thought 11.50 was supposed to have GPU acceleration. Is this now being delayed?

Hello,

Yet another Christmas is coming and we are getting closer to the farewell of 2017, a year which Opera was Reborn and many unique features reached our users. As the year ends, it?s also time for a very special release for us at Opera, the 50th edition of our browser.

Renewed VPN

Faster and better browser VPN
In September 2016, we introduced the free, built-in, no-log browser VPN service. Opera remains the only major browser providing such a unique service. Now, we are introducing our first major upgrade to the browser VPN service.

Moving to Opera data centers
Previously, the VPN service was hosted and operated by SurfEasy LLC, a company recently acquired by Symantec. We have investigated the best options for hosting the service and concluded the browser VPN service will be moved to our own data centers. Opera?s current server infrastructure, one of the highest capacity super-computer clusters in the world, is already hosting services such as the compressing engine for Opera Mini.

The colocation of the browser VPN service to our data centers is expected to give increased performance, scalability and balancing capabilities, while keeping it a free and no-log service.

From countries to regions
As we move the service to the Opera data centers, we are also changing from listing locations based on countries to regions. For the updated browser VPN, we will provide these options: Optimal location (default), the Americas, Europe and Asia. Locations will be rol... Read more

Change log

Download 8 beta 2

In the change log, you'll notice document.selection support for forms. That means that you can finally select something in the compose box for these forums and embed that selection in color tags (for example).

Also, that means inserting smilies will insert at the caret position instead of at the end of the textarea. (Finally)

However, in these forums, the inserting smiley part doesn't insert at the caret position for Opera beta 2. It does work at the vBulletin-based techguy forums though.

If you use Opera, I recommend you update to 8 beta 2 (clean, separate install). (For security reasons and feature reasons. Plus plugin support is better. 7.54u2 is just not as advanced when it comes to html/dom support).

BTW, they have a handle on the IDN spoofing.

It's a good update. (especially if you are coming from 7.54u2).

The Opera team released a beta version of Opera 9.20 to the public yesterday. The new version comes with several new features and fixes that are worth taking a closer look at. It looks pretty stable to me and I did not witness crashes so far, you should still be aware that this is a beta version. The release notes line out the new features and fixes of Opera 9.20 beta. The most important features that are introduced is the so called Speed Dial Feature and the integration of Developer Tools. There have been several security and stability fixes as well.
As I said earlier Speed Dial is probably the most interesting addition to Opera. Every new tab that you open displays up to nine websites that you have chosen showing the actual content of that website in a thumbnail. Clicking on a thumbnail or pressing CTRL + [1..9] loads the website in full screen. This is actually a very clever way for users who visit a number of sites often to check if anything new happened in the meantime. Great for webmasters who visit their sites or want to keep up with news sites. The tab can be used normally as well. Take a look at the screenshot that I made below.
I think this is a pretty interesting new feature that is unique to Opera for now. Remains to be seen how long the others need to add it to their browser.

Answer:Opera 9.2 beta released

I have been using this for a couple of weeks now. Well the Speed Dial thing. It is very useful and nice to use. But other times it is a hassle.

Overall i have to say this is the best version to use so far.

Answer:Want to try Opera 10 Beta; remove 9.+?

I don't think you have to, but it's probably a good idea to remove the old version before installing the beta. However, you could change the default install location when installing the beta, but there might end up being some 'crossover' of files anyway (like in the Application Data folders for example). I think removing the older version is recommended.

Opera 9.5 Mobile Beta 2

The Opera development team seems to be doing their thing opposed to other browser developers who are more focused on the competition. The team released the second beta of the upcoming Opera 9.5 mobile browser yesterday which can be currently downloaded and tested but is supposed to be a commercial product once it is released in its final version. The current version Opera 8.65 is available for ?19 at the Opera online store and this is probably the same price range that users can expect of Opera 9.6 mobile unless the Opera sales team would decide that they had to reduce the price because of the competition of the new Firefox mobile browser.
The new Opera 9.5 beta 2 is currently available for Windows Mobile and Symbian UIQ. A release for Symbian S60 phones is planned for 2009. The biggest new feature in this version is the mobile widgets support. Users should not confuse mobile widgets with widgets in desktop versions of Opera because they work and act different which is mainly caused by the limited screen space of mobile phones.
Widgets for Opera mobile are basically one click services that either open a function or website directly. Only a few widgets are currently available including a clock, Twitter or weather information.
Other additions are a new Zoom slider and some user interface and usability improvements in addition to many under-the-hood fixes in the browser core. It is a good time now to test the new Opera mobile browser if you have a mobil... Read more

Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 g... Read more

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
I tried oc'ing to 4.5 ghz, didnt fix the problem.
Basically, in some games i get high cpu usage and at the same time low gpu usage.
My system is i7 3770k, gtx1070, 16 gb ddr3 ram, corsair hx850i psu.
In witcher 3 novigrad, which is cpu heavy, i sometimes get gpu usage at like 70% which causes stutter, at the same time cpu usage is around 85%.
When i leave town i get 95-99% gpu usage again and my cpu usage drops.
Dying light same, if cpu usage is high my gpu usage drops.
Battlefield 1 is normally fine in 95-99% gpu usage, except st quentin, but others reported this too.
What can this be? My cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking. Like i said i trid overclocking, didn't help.
nvcp is set to prefer maximum performance and i'm playing at 1440p 144hz.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this!

I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine. However, he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage (Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager) and it was making his computer sluggish and slow. Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare.

I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem, but could not fix it at all, no matter what the hell I tried. So he reverted back to Windows XP. (A nice waste of money on Windows 7.) His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was.

Suddenly today, after my brother connected to my Windows 7 homegroup (or workgroup rather) through his Windows XP machine, my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago! I have been browsing Google all day downloading s**t, changing things in my computer, trying EVERY possible fix that people have suggested and that sound legit. Nothing works!

So now all of a sudden, my computer is sluggish, games are jumpy and jittery, video rendering times are slooooooow.

Here is a picture of my resource monitor:
You can see the physical memory usage being at 45%. I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest.
I just CANT see where the problem is!
(I've tried leaving my homegroup to see... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!

I can tell you what is probably causing your problems. AVG.
When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
Any help would be appreciated.http://speccy.piriform.com/results/JMT3Ky4vYTHwXILMO6NViGa

Hi,

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!
