Preferred Solution: Why do I get Error Message 403. Sorry, Forbidden. You don't have permission to access

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and I have msn.com as my home page. When I tried getting onto my home page a little bit ago, a notice came up that said "Server Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied". I was able to go on other web sites fine and when I changed the home page (back to msn), the message went away. But other users on the computer have the same problem. I heard someone say it may be the result of a hijackware infection. Could that be the case or something else? Thanks.

Answer:Server Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied message

Well, it looks like it's not an issue anymore. The other users home pages are working fine now. No error message or anything. Sorry for the trouble.

Whenever I try to access reflexive.net from my home computer I get the following: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Clear the Cookies, etc for whatever web browser you are using. If using any third party security software, make sure that it is not blocking that website. Basic stuff that you need to go and check to make sure that it is not one of those two items causing it.

I was trying to download the latest version of UnrealTournament 2004 for my computer and you just get it from the universal site online. Only problem is I can not get there, due to this message, Forbidden:You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server. I have Mozilla Firefox, do you think it's that? Could Windows Vista do that to me? Should I try Internet Explorer? Any suggestions and/or solutions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder  'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.  Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

hi all- 1st post here! my son is having a prob with desktop. he's running vista, with IE. here is what he's got going on. when he signs online, he's getting an error message that reads 403 forbidden. he can't access the web. no sites at all. i've tried to look into it and nothing is working out. i'm typing in the right addresses too. he able by the way to sign on to AIM and his music, but i think that is because he's not having to route to an address on the web. last week is when he started to notice the problem. he went to sign on and it went to comcast and asked if he was a customer or technician. he knew something was wrong at that point and he got off line. not been able to click online since. i've tried sys restore only to get an error for that too. i've reset the IE and it didn't help either. when i go into trusted/restricted sites, the thing tells me that the address has to read https:// not the normal http:// that seems strange to me. i can't get on to download anything to run and check if there is malware or what causing the problem. its a brand new puter, couple months old and he desperately needs this for college. can anyone please, please, help me with this problem?

HI

if this IS a new computer...maybe a silly question but did it come with an antivirus program ( probably Norton )preinstalled and if so was it activated?

also, by what method does it connect to the internet , who is the ISP and might IT have an antivirus protection method in it ????

does it have any other protection prograsm on it and if so when if ever where they updated and run ?

also; has the computer been allowed to go to the microsoft update site to get all the vista windows updates?

I get this message often when searching for something, mostly in google.  When this happens I switch from explorer to chrome or visa versa.  It happens in both at different times.  I did a search and saw that different anti virus programs were "supposed to work"  of course I purchased 2 but neither works.  I have had my anti virus program for years and love it. It is called NOD.  Not sure what else to tell you except thanks!

The above message has appeared recently on my ecafe, (French made) netbook. I have no idea why this should be there but have managed to access the internet from my history list or by typing in the website. The home screen, which is giving this message, would normally show the ecafe home page (now forbidden) I have copied and pasted the information below in the hope someone can advise me on what I can do to rectify this. On reflection, the only thing that I have done recently, which might have caused this, was to plug in an external usb CD/DVD drive to load printer software. This drive had worked successfully on the netbook before, but on this occasion it switched the screen off. I thought the power cable might be at fault although the cable works fine on my other laptop.Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested directory. A friend has recently gone broadband with Tiscali. When he goes on-line he does indeed access the internet but he cannot load any web pages. He can use the connection to download updates in cases where pages are not displayed (such as updating Windows, AVG, and anti-spy ware). He is not on a home network. On accessing the Internet, it goes on line with Tiscali broadband at 100Bps, the on-line icon pops into the Notification area but he is confronted with a page saying:-403 Forbidden You were denied access because: Access denied by access control list.I have checked all his settings and they are correct. Tiscali has done the same. Tiscali at first said that there was a problem with its network but Tiscali seems to have forgotten this in our latest communications. He doe not have separate user accounts in XP. He does not go through a proxy and all security settings are set at medium strengthI tried unsuccessfully accessing pages with the XP firewall off, and also very briefly with the AVG anti-virus turned off. Tiscali have promised to query BT to see if BT is blocking all pages. (Tiscali broadband uses the BT exchange as it is not unbundled in this area. Line rental is paid to Tiscali though).I switched him back to a dial-up connection temporarily and could then access any pages. This seems to indicate that Internet Explorer is not the culprit. Since build 10166 I can not open Outlook 2010 on my PC. I am getting the message that I do not have permission to open the folders. I can get it to open if I open as admin but that has limited functionality.
Any ideas? I have checked the folders properties and there is nothing in there that has changed.

Answer:Build 10166 Outlook won't open message - 'file access is denied - you do not have permission

I found this elsewhere
- Got to your hard drive and right-click the folder that's causing all the trouble.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Security tab
- Then click Advanced
- You'll see a window with some usernames. Now click Owner in the tabs above.
- Click Edit, then select the username you wish to be able to open the folder and be sure to check the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" then hit Apply.
A pop up will come up that says something like 'You have replaced the ownership for the selected folders' or something in that manner. It worked for me and hopefully this post is still useful to some people
I changed access to users to full control and now it opens fine.

Sometimes when I am trying to do something, I get a popup that says,"You do not have permission to perform that action." Or something along that line. How can this be? I am the administrator of this computer. It is a home computer and no one else lives here to use it. Is there a way to change this setting?Tammy

Answer:Error Message: You need permission to perform this action

The actual admin account was hidden in Vista and on installation created a user account with admin privileges. You are saying if I understand you, that you unhid the account sometime ago yourself and you are using only the actual administrator account? If that were correct I can't understand why you see those warnings, either. To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

I'm trying to set up a second email profile on a PC which already has a profile set up. The new profile needs to be password protected, ie. anyone who logs on to the PC using the default profile should not have access to the second mail profile without an additional password (if that makes sense).
Both profiles use exchange accounts. I've selected the 'Prompt for a profile to be used' option. However when I select the second profile I get the following error message:

Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You do not have permission to log on.

I'm assuming that this is because it is trying to use the Windows logon username and password to access the second profile. Is there any way to get Outlook to prompt for a password when accessing the new mail profile?

I have worked through every post I can find but cannot access files on other PC's on a Windows 7 Homegroup.

I have disconnected both Computers from the Homegroup and started a new homegroup and have connected both to it. The My Documents folder on the second Computer is located on a seperate drive ie D:\My Documents. I have right clicked and allowed it to share with Homegroup.

When I go to my computer it now shows in the list in the homegroup but when I try to access it I get the error - 'You do not have permission to access \\Computer name\My Documents Contact your network administrator to request access."

This is so frustrating because this has only recently happened and I have had no problem accessing them in the past.

One thing I have noticed is that both computers only show Access as Internet as opposed to Local and Internet.

Anyone any further ideas>>

EDIT - Reset the Router back to factory settings and started the whole produre over again and now have connectivity with other PC

Wow. I've caught something good. I cannot access any web based email program (even ones I don't use). Also, recently downloaded yahoo messenger 8.0 after having the problem, and now it won't let me log on. But wait, there's more!

I've noticed my Norton firewall settings were changed. It no longer comes on, and I cannot access it because it says I am not logged in and am not the administrator. Kind of boggled me, so I fired up my computer in safe mode and noticed my user account, a buddy's user account I set up a while ago which has been dormant for a while and now a new administrator account. I cannot uninstall norton firewall.

Also, another problem is that I'm running avast anti-virus, which I had set to come on automatically when I booted up and to check for new updates. Anyway, now it doesn't come up automaticallly. I've checked for stuff with avast with nothing found, removed some adware with Ad-aware and now I'm off work again, about to check with spybot.

Does anybody have any ideas of what I may have caught and a good way to deal with it? Dealing with it besides chunking my old PC and getting another? Thanks, Kenneth.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

There are a few new viruses around that will attempt to disable all protection software of anykind. You really need to work thru the below so we can do a complete cleaning on your PC.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
Bitdefender - from step 6

I am a developer and I need to be able to install new COM+ Applications on my desktop; however, when I click on the COM+ Application branch under My Computer on the Component Services MSC snap-in I get the following error: You do not have permission to perform the requested action. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I read another post regarding this issue, but the answer didn't work for me.

Yesterday, I was watching Netflix with my Firefox browser with no problems. Today, I tried to log in and received the, "403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server" message. I'm completely stumped.

I can access Netflix on my phone, through our Wii and using Internet Explorer, but not with Firefox. I have cleared the cache, history and cookies and it didn't work. I really don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall Firefox if possible because of the bookmarks I have save, but will if I absolutely have to.

I'm hoping someone has some other advice that might fix this issue. Thanks, so much, in advance.

~Julie

Answer:[SOLVED] 403 Forbidden Message

Try these steps:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...r-browsers-can

Also, you can backup and/or sync all your favorites/bookmarks so you don't lose them if you have to uninstall. You can Export them via Firefox. In addition Firefox also creates a backup of them and puts them in the profile folder.

My friend is trying to access a particular website (youconvertit.com) but gets HTTP 403 errors (access forbidden) whenever he does. Other web activity is fine.

1. When I take MY laptop round to his house, I can connect to the site no problem.
2. When we take HIS laptop to another neighbour's, he gets the same 403 message.
3. MY laptop is still connecting OK.

This suggests some W7 setting / firewall issue etc etc on my friend's laptop.

Any hints?

Browser is IE9
Proxy server is unticked in Internet Options.

Answer:HTTP 403 forbidden message on one (W7) laptop only

I'm tempted to either:

1. Reset IE9 to default settings, or...
2. Install an alternative browser to see if the problem appears with that

Any other suggestions?

Thanks...

Been trying for a long time to log on to a Forum that I had used and it always gives me this
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
The forum is ApneaBoard.com any help would be appreciated

Answer:404 Forbidden when trying to access forum

The forum looks OK to me (as a guest) and I can get as far as the 'register' and 'login' pages too. It may be something corrupted in your browser's cache or its cookies. One quick check for that is to try the site in a private browsing window (so you won't have any existing cached pages or cookies). On all browsers except Chrome you can open one with Ctrl-Shift-P (on Chrome that is for 'Print'). If it works in private browsing then clear your browsers cache and the cookies for the site.

Hi. I've now installed d-link air plus extreme GDWL-G520 and I've just successfully managed to delete the derbiz.com virus, using and installing all the info from your 'read and run me first page'. (i couldn't connect to the internet, so i burnt the info onto a disc and uploaded it).

i can now connect to the internet (ie i can get on msn messenger and update windows). However, when i try to open interent explorer, i get the following message:

Forbidden
You were denied access because:
Access denied by access control list.

Please help!

thanks

Answer:Forbidden: Access Denied

I don't even think it has something to do with the newly installed d-link, i think you got to check your provider?, your control list? and your ie itself maybe you have accidentally change some of the settings regarding your ie.

Good day and thank you for reviewing this post.
I have been dealing with a computer that had multiple viruses ..... including the TDSS. I have successfully removed TDSS and others from machines using a cocktail of Vipre, MWB, Avast boot scan, and Combofix. I have probably done 10 of these in the past 2 months with no side effects.
Recently I have experiences 2 machines that refuse to access MS update site after full removal. I have "verified" my complete removal by running MWB and Vipre in safe mode and getting no hits.
I have tried Dial-a-fix, and I have followed the instuctions as MS for this 403 Forbidden error to no avail.
All else seems to work well ... web sites, email, programs, etc. The only thing I cannot seem to do is MS updates ... I can even update MWB and Avast ... but not MS updates.
Does anyone out there have any experience with this or suggestions as to what I should do to regain my ability to do updates?
Thank you very much for your time and advice.

The error you're getting is generated by the website's server. It has nothing to do with your computer. It has to be solved by those who maintain the website.

So, there is nothing to worry about.

It wouldn't be your ISP, what's most likely happening is the domain you're trying to access is a 'members only' area. e.g. you have to get yourself permission to get in. That is usually done via VPN, or something as simple as allowing specific IP addresses access.

I just posted an item here a few minutes ago called "Having Trouble Installing Anti-Hacker 13.0". I see the post listed, but when I click on it I see a message "Error 403 Forbidden". Can someone or a moderator tell me what is going on here? Thanks.

Answer:Error 403 Forbidden?

Maybe you included in that post a link that is not allowed. Repost but without typing a hyperlink. Antihacker 13 is hosted on major geeks. If that is the program you are having problems with, just describe the problems with any error messages.

I'm trying to access a friends website (it's a wiki type of thing) and keep getting error 403 "Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I can try to go to any page and that comes up.
The only thing is that when I access the site from work or on my Blackberry, it loads fine... I can also load it from home if I use a proxy.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? It seems like all my computers at home (on my network) can't access the site but everyone else can.

Sorry, I can't post the link for her privacy.

Hi Experts,

I work on a Windows 7 Ultimate computer and need to access files on my wife's Windows XP SP3 computer, specifically I'd like to copy my Favorites to my Win7 computer. However, whenever I try to access Documents and Settings on my WinXP computer I get a "You don't have Permission" error.

I've made both the C:\ drive and the Documents and Settings folder sharable from my WinXP account there, the permissions are set so that anyone on the network can access the folder and make changes to files on it. I can see it on my Network (formerly Network Places) but can't do anything with it. I've rebooted both machines more than once after making the changes.

What's missing?

Thanks,
Robert

can someone help me with an error message I keep getting, when I try to connect to microsoft download center I keep getting this message "HTTP 403 Forbidden" and I get the same message when I try to download a pdf file, thank you, Gerry.

Answer:error HTTP 403 Forbidden

Gerry, welcome to TSF.

I've removed your email address from your post as I assume you don't want it getting into the wrong hands?

Try this. From IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings.
Make sure that "Auto detect my settings" is checked.

If you don't use a proxy or vpn make sure no other boxes in this page are checked. Apply and OK your way back out. Does this help?

Does this help? I'd be curious because I had a customer just the other day that had 403 Forbidden messages on every page and was because her ISP settings were incorrect. "Auto detect" solved the problem.

Okay, so I am having a lot of trouble getting the internet working on my laptop. Every website I go to says 403 Forbidden Error. I can't figure out why this is happening. It happens when I connect to the internet wirelessly and when it is hooked up directly to the wall.

It seemed to happen around the time when my ISP was sold to another company and they went through a transition period, but this would just be a coincidence. Not sure.

It is also happening at work, which is not using the same ISP, so I am quite confused. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:All Websites = 403 Forbidden Error

Not 100% sure and I'm not a professional, but I'd suggest trying this utility:

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

It has saved me on more than one occasion. Also, I would ask if you have done anything to edit your HOST file. I doubt it especially since most people don't mess with it and your issue is happening in more than one location that's not with the same ISP company. The HOST file blocks many sites, which isn't a bad thing if you know what you are doing, but can be highly detrimental to those who don't understand what they are dealing with.

My computer has recently started to display "HTTP 403 Forbidden Error" followed by "the website declined to show this web page" when I try to load certain web pages. In addition, Zone Alarm has been giving frequent error messages that a web page is trying to access one of my "protected" pieces of information (my pin number).

I have attempted to follow the five steps that are recommended prior to posting, but have been mostly unsuccessfull. I was unable to run the Panda online scan as nothing happened when I clicked the scan now. I made sure that my google and zone alarm pop-up blockers where off. I was able to install Spyware blaster but was unable to install IE-spyad. When I followed the download link I again received the "HTTP 403 forbidden error". I completed step 4 as I am running Windows XP with SP2. Unfortunately I cannot download or install Deckards System Scanner because when I click on the link I again get the "HTTP 403 forbidden error".

Please help. Thanks very much in advance.

I am trying to open spywarehammer and all I can access is home page. I cannot log in or access any other pages. All I get is a 403 forbidden error and I get it on both my pc's. I have accessed this site hundreds of times in the past. I am registered there. Can anyone help me out with this?

Answer:http 403 forbidden error

Before trying the things in paragraphs labeled 2) 3) and 4), try typing the URL address below directly into the browser's URL box.

http: //spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=11.0

(leave out the space after the colon)

Don't copy and paste the above; type it directly into the browser URL box. If it goes to the Rootkit Removal page, that was correct. If you get the same 403 message as before, proceed to 2) below. If you get to the Rootkit Removal page and you cannot browse to another spywarehammer page without getting the same message as before then there's a possibility that a virus is blocking access to spywarehammer and some deep scanning with AVs, SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, if not more, is in order. Let us know what happened.

2) Reboot your router (turn off and then back on after 60 seconds or so). If you have a modem in front of the router turn it off after the router, then turn them back on in reverse order. Make sure the modem has booted before turning on the router. Let the router boot and try the spywarehammer site again using your normal methods. Let us know what happened.

3) Failing 2) above, close your browser, open a command box and type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotation marks and hit <enter>. It will say whether or not the cache was flushed. Try the site again. If the cache did not flush, let us know. If you still cannot access spywarehammer, let us know.

4) Look in th... Read more

This error means you?re trying to get into a web site that?s password protected ? or the Web server is blocking users from your domain. Some institutional sites only allow access to official users, or it may be a subscription-only site.

Hello.I recently went back to IE6 from Mozilla Firefox (which I tried for a while). Hello everyone. My name is Tara. I've been having some problems with Ebay. When I get to the main screen this message shows up in between my ebay and some other ads : This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.

Also I think with firefox the ebay pages are not completely loading. It's really only a problem on ebay. The pages almost load but stop at the end of the bar.

One more thing. Do you know why I can't see the normal (not html) description box when I use firefox. I can only see it in IE.

Thanks, I have my son in school and I have a few days off and really need to get some work done!!!

Answer:HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, that error usually pops up if the Web site you requested requires special access permission (for example, a password). As it happens on the other pc, did you have to log on on that one before?

Also, is it a re-directed address? What I mean is, is it like:

www.website.com/members

if so, what happens if you just went to www.website.com and then pressed on the members link. Obviously your web page will be totally different, its just an easy way to explain what I mean
