How can I move all of my current email messages (MS Outlook Express) to my flashdrive (Cruzer)? My operating system is MS XP.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi, I have just purchased a Yoga 2 13.3 with 500GB HD and a 25GB SSD drive. I have noticed that the system is a bit slow because the Window 8.1 is installed on the mechanical Hard Drive instead of the Flash SSD drive. How can I move the Windows 8.1 installation to the SSD drive. I have a 25GB empty drive. Thank You, Tareq
Solved!
Go to Solution.
Your 25GB SSD is acting as a SSD cache rather than a dedicated SSD. I suggest to keep the setup alone as this might mess up the recovery partition on your HDD.
2 more repliesI was moving pictures from my tablet to a flash drive...there wasn't enough room for all the pic folders so I was going to start with the videos first. So I moved the pics that already went to the flash drive back to the tablet. Now the pics wont open. So Tablet to Flash Drive back to tablet....I think it has something to do with me copying them from one place to the other but I don't know if they are recoverable. Please help quickly.
Hi, first of all my computer skills are just average. My question is this.
How do I go about putting my old emails on a flash drive for saving? I can use a flash drive, I use it a lot. But I don't know how to put emails on a flash drive at all. Thanks, Chuck
Gmail has a facility for saving all your data into a zip file, this zip file contains a file in a weird format which when opened with notepad will let you see emails in a somewhat ugly but readable full original text way. It is a good idea to do it every so often for an emergency backup incase something happens to your online account, i would assume other webmail providers offer the same. If on the other hand you use an email program that stores the emails on your harddrive you will need to hunt through ALL your folders until you find where the program stores the files, likely locations include C:\ProgramFiles\(program name)\ or C:\Users\(your name)\AppData . In some cases the appdata folder might be hidden so you will need to enable "show hidden files/folders" under "folder options"-->"view" in windows file browser (windows explorer, i'm trying to say this in a way that does NOT confuse that with internet explorer).
2 more repliesI type my document in Microsoft Word on my laptop computer and put them onto a flash drive from my laptop. When i go home I put in my flashdrive to sent the document by email and it goes through, but is all garbled on the receivers end.
There are a lot of steps in between. Does the file open on the flash drive? What about when copied to the computer? What version of Word was it created with? Using standard fonts? Any special coding? Does the receiver have the same version of Word installed? Is the problem with just one recipient?
Hello,
I have an empty 32GB flash drive (that when you click on properties it states that there is 31.1GB of available space on it) that I am trying to use to move a 25.5GB in size. The file is a backup of the C & D partitions of my hard drive that was created with Acronis. When I click to copy the 25.5gb file to the flash drive I get a message that states "File too Large" the file is too large for the destination file system. I also tried just moving the file to the flash drive with the same results. Why if the flash drive has 31.1GB of available space on it won't it allow me to move a 25.5GB file to it. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, the flash drive is SanDisk and the file is on an external hard drive.
Any assistance would be Greatly Appreciated.
Thanks!
If the flash drive is formatted FAT32, the largest file that can be copied to it is 4GB. You will need to format the flash drive to NTFS in order to copy your file.
In the near future, my partner and I will be living in separate places of abode. Therefore, my partners Email address (which is currently managed by Outlook Express), will cease to exist. I need to arrange something whereby, when she sets up her new email address, the contents of her email folders are able to be transferred to that new email address....I have this thought in the back of my mind that I can do this with Thunderbird....if I install Thunderbird on her PC, now... and then back up the files and folders using the information here......http://email.about.com/od/mozillathunderbirdtips/qt/et_backup_prof.htm........establish a new email address, when that time comes.....and then restore the Thunderbird files/profile etc, from the backup.or.....am I just having a daydream....could it be that simple?Need some input here. I want to be sure I have not missed the bleepin obvious.....I dont want to lose all that she has.
For what it is worth, I backup My Thunderbird and Firefox with MozBackup http://download.cnet.com/MozBackup/3000-2242_4-10260383.htmlAs great as it is to have tools such as Firefox and Thunderbird, backing them up can be a tedious process. MozBackup is a tiny program that makes saving and restoring all your bookmarks, extensions, and other personal settings a streamlined and stress-free experience. The program works with Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and Netscape on Windows platforms. It doesn't work with Firefox Portable, Sunbird, Songbird, or Flock, but for standard Windows iterations of the programs in the Mozilla suite, it's almost silly to not use this program.Close the program you want to back up, then runI used MozBackup recently to move all my Thunderbird email and settings and Firefox favorites etc. from one computer to another. No problems. It seems to me that your plan is sound, Import into Thunderbird, Backup, install Thunderbird on new computer and restore everything.Did I mention you can you can check or uncheck what you want and not backup what you don't want to backup.Hope this helpsRoger
3 more repliesIn my PC (Windows 7 Professional - 32 Bit Operatins System - Service Pack 1 installed) whenever I plug in Flash Drive, the system creates short cut for all the folders in the Flash Drive. The folders and its contents are safe.
But I am unable to Safely Dismount the Flash Drive and the system on choosing Eject the Drive will display "This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again." message.
If I go through My Computer - Right Click on Flash Drive and then Eject the system shows the following message
"F: is Currently in Use. Save any Open Files on this disc, and then close the files or programs
using the files before trying again. If you choose to continue, the files will be closed, which might cause data to be lost.
Cancel Try Again Continue"
If we choose Continue, system displays "Safe to Remove Hardware".
WHY THIS IS HAPPENING ??
I am having a laptop with same OS and there when I plug in the flash drive it does not create any short cut and no such problems.
Both the systems are having Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1.671.4971 and are upto date on Virus Siglature update.
Which flash drive is the fastest to use with Vista's page file on flash drive capability?
No no no, wrong wrong wrong. Whoa there, sonny, let's back up a bit.
Before you go preaching it's like having your pagefile on a USB drive, you need to learn more about ReadyBoost, which is the correct name for the specific technology. It's not putting your pagefile on the USB Flash device, it's just using the Flash RAM device to augment (read: add to the performance) some aspects of Vista's SuperFetch and virtual memory subsystems.
There are several threads about this feature here already; search for "readyboost" and you can learn more about it, which I STRONGLY recommend since you're getting off on the wrong foot already.
No problem with you being enthusiastic since ReadyBoost is a great feature and a nice way to improve system performance, but you need to present your posts in an accurate and meaningful way with facts and not just a bunch of statements that sound like "OMG it's the greatest thing evarrrrr..."
You're close, but do some more research here and other places to get the real scoop about ReadyBoost.
Most any USB 2.0 Flash-RAM based device should work just fine, but the cheap ones - those $10 specials at stores - might not be up to snuff for transfer speeds. If you stick one in and Vista offers to let it be used for ReadyBoost, that means Vista tested it and concluded it's up to the task.
I downloaded embroidery designs on my MAC then copied to flash drive to move to pc where my embroidery programs are. My PC is running windows 7 pro. It tells me to format flash drive. Should I format and then reload designs from MAC and try again or do I need another solution? Designs are .pes extensions. Any help would be great.
In general macs will use the windows format you bought the flash drive with unless it is an external hard drive. It may be that you or someone formatted it with the mac format. If you formatted it hfs then you have to make a choice. One is to use a bootcamp tool that allows windows 7 to read the hfs. Another is to simply go back to the mac, copy the files back to the mac and reformat the drive in some windows 7 version like fat or ntfs.Lastly is to use a live cd. A live linux cd and read hfs and move the files.I could be wrong on all that too. It may be that you have some damage to the drive. Using it on a mac would maybe tell if it is even good. Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
2 more repliesI recently purchased a 32 GB San Disk Flash Drive. The security files pre-installed on the drive were junk, and I could not delete them so I formatted the drive to remove them. This cleaned the disk, and it holds data, but I'm not sure if this is part of my problem. I am trying to load my copy of windows 7 onto this disk, and using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, I can select my ISO file, but when I go to select my USB drive, my computer does not recognize the flash drive as a flash drive. Is there a way to change the Flash Drive so Windows will recognize my Flash Drive as removable media? Smaller USB drives still work on my computer, so its not the computer. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hello masonta. Welcome to the forum.
Let's start with this: can you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window, expanded so we can read everything, with the USB stick installed?
You also might check in Device Manager to see if the stick shows up as a USB device, or a hard disk.
I uploaded a flash animation of a moving horses and it previews fine but when I tried to put in the HTML code I ended up seeing just a white box. I wrote my webhosting company and this is what they said, also it's just an image of a galloping horse.

I can't see any advertisements or websites that require Flash.I have tried to download Flash and ActiveX but nothing happens. All my add ons are enabled.I haven't downloaded any funny software that should affect these things but i didn install and uninstall DiveX a couple of weeks agoI don't have a clue what's happened - can anyone help??

Hi everyone,
I am moving and need to save my address book and my emails. I have tried to copy them to my Cd/Rw from outlook express but I am not having any luck. I am sure there is a simple trick to this but I cant find it. I have to switch internet providers and dont want to lose all my emails when I do.
I appreciate any help you might be able to give.
Hey everyone... I'm new here, so be kind. ;)
I've had my email and website hosted in the same place for years. I'm creating a new website on a different platform (probably SquareSpace) and when that's ready, I want to cancel my current hosting, and therefore 'delete' the old website and run with the new one, again, most likely SquareSpace. My email is also hosted (if that's the correct term?) with the current web host and uses a mydomainname.com format.
That's the background info. From what I understand, I can have Google Apps for Business 'host' my email. First of all, is this what I need in order to access my email (I use Mac Mail as my email client) still using mydomainname.com email address? Secondly, if I do this, does this mean that if I ever change my web host in the future, that I won't have to change my email and simply continue using it through Google Apps for Business? I'm looking for a long-term solution for me email that I don't have to change whenever I change hosts for the website. Hopefully I'll never do it again, but never say never, right!?
AND, if all that is correct... what's the procedure to move my email from an existing host (the domain name is registered with Network Solutions - but hosted elsewhere (Bell Canada if you need to know) and set it up with GAFB?
If you are no longer hosting your site with the old company, you should migrate your email as well, if only to avoid confusion in terms of MX and DNS records. You can keep your email where it is, but configuring all that to work can be tricky, especially if you aren't comfortable with configuring zone files. It sounds like SquareSpace has some sort of arrangement with Google Apps; whether you can keep your mail there if you ever change web hosting companies will depend on the terms of your agreement with SquareSpace.
If/when you switch to Google Apps for Business, they have a number of migration tools you can use to migrate your email over. If you are using Outlook with your current email provider, just back up the .pst file. You should be able to import it back in when you connect your Outlook to Google Apps.
Check their website for more information and details -- support.google.com
I'm bedeviled by an issue; I need to move my web site from one ISP to another - that's easy enough to do - but I'm having problems with moving the email. I use the ISP's webmail and have more than an in-box and a sent box, but also several folders for emails from the past couple of years. I want to keep those but have no idea how to move those.
I am on a Mac OS X 10.6.4 but haven't used MacMail; I tried setting up an account but it is squirrely and does not bring over all the email and certainly doesn't bring over anything besides the in-box.
I tried downloading and using Eudora but that doesn't seem to work either! Having a particularly "stupid" mental block in this area; I'm sure it must be simple but for some reason I can't seem to solve this. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Trying to move my email from the old computer (WinXP-Home) to the new computer (WinXP-Pro) using an external HD. I don't need to move the entire program just the emails which I have on the only system. Address book is already done. Can anyone tell me what files I need to copy over and where to find them? Thanks in advance!
I was wondering what the best way was to move email in outlook from one computer to another and was hoping someone could lend a hand. I've never done this before so I have no clue where to begin. Thanks.
What I would consider the 'best' way (others may think otherwise) is to copy and relocate the .PST file (Outlook uses that file-type) to the new PC. Then import it on that new machine.
No, I can't lend a hand right now. I'm sure if you just search the board here (or Google for it), you should be able to find detailed steps of how to do it. No sense in "re-inventing the wheel."

Dear All,
I used to customize my icons specially for Movies and TV Collection to give it a nice look.
While using Windows 8.1 i used the below to keep the icons shown even if i transferred the folder to any other USB Flash or other computer at the desktop.ini file and was working perfectly
[.ShellClassInfo]IconFile=ICON.ico
iconindex=0
IconResource=ICON.ico,0
Now after installing Windows 10 and using the same way i use , when copying the folder to USB Flash or other computer i lose the icon ! and it's not shown anymore !!
any idea why this happens and how to solve it ?

Hi,
Is there any way to tell Outlook Express to store email messages to a folder
located on a drive (and folder) other than C:?
Is there any way to copy the contents of a folder in Outlook Express
to a folder in Windows Explorer?
I can do it with individual messages:
File > Save As ... > [selected folder]
... but I don’t see any way to do it for an entire OE message folder.
Thanks!
I'm just about finished with my new MOBO installation and now I need to get my email going. Originally I was running 2 HD's in RAID 1. The MOBO quit and I've had to install a new one. In the process I have had to format and install a fresh XP OS on one HD and install all new programs. On the other HD is my email, many files and programs, and a unrepairable XP. Can I move my email and email settings from the HD with the bad XP OS to the other HD with the fresh XP. Actually it's my girlfriends computer and I think she used Outlook express. Where would I find Outlook Express on the old HD? I've been right clicking Start, Explore, and moving files from one HD to the other. Would this work for outlook?
Thanks
IMSA
The default location for Outlook Express is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {a string of numbers and letters} \ Microsoft \ Outlook Express
All Outlook Express files use the .dbx extension so if you enable searching in hidden files/folder and system files/folders, you can just use the Search function with .dbx as the search keyword. If you want to just browse to folder w/o using search, you'll need to enable the viewing of hidden and system files/folders by clicking Tools > Folder Options > View and scroll down a bit until you see the circles and boxes that need to be checked or unchecked. I'm not sure about transferring your OE settings, but after you copy the emails over to a folder (put 'em on your desktop in a folder called "OE" or whatever) you'd then launch Outlook Express and use the Import function, browse to the folder called "OE" and it will import all the files.
Good luck!
I am due to be leaving AOL shortly and move to Blueyonder. However, I am a little concerned as I have hundreds of archived emails that I would like to bring across to Outlook for future reference. Can anyone please advise the best way to transfer these? Is there anythiing else I need to consider before moving over to Blueyonder as well??
are these archived mails on your pc or aol website? what e mail client were you using prior to outlook?johnny.
5 more repliesI have just taken delivery of a new PC with XP. Can anybody tell me how to get my Server BT Open World from Windows 98 to my new PC and also is it possible to change the email address at the same time. Many thanks.
Not sure about XP but under win 98 etc you could go into Dial-up Networking and right click on your connection icon, go to properties and that will tell what number you are dialling to connect to the internet. Make a note of it. Click on new connection and add the number.

HiI want to have a backup of my email for a friend as she is helping me in my business. Is it possible to1 Open a Hotmail or other online account, that I could forward all my emails to (including the folders, I have a few hundred messages!)And re create all my folders on this account.2 Use an online account instead of my Windows Mail, but how would I do this and keep the same email address?3 Failing that, if I backup the store folder (like I used to on XP with OE6) could she import them into her Outlook Express ie bring Window Mail emails back in to OE? Can you drop and drag?Or if anyone has another suggestion Id be grateful . Basically I want her to have access to them on her computer too. Maybe not possible.thanksh
If you are using a hotmail address, your friend could log-in as you if she had your log-in details, she would then be able to see all your hotmail emails.Anyone with a hotmail address can themselves log-in on any other computer, as I sure you already know. Just depends if you want to share your log-in details with your friend. Depends how important it is to you I suppose. You could make it a temporary arrangement, but this would mean changing your email address afterwards.

Outlook Express isn't available for Windows 7. It was replaced by Windows Mail, then Windows Live Mail (WLM). You might try installing WLM on the XP machine and do the import. See instructions that worked for another poster

Just right-click on the message and choose «Move to a folder». Then just choose the folder you want.

You could install Windows Live Mail in Windows 8 (which is what I've done) and then transfer your Windows 7 Contacts into Windows 8.
Copy the Contacts folder from Windows 7 (to a USB stick or whatever) and Paste it into your User account in Windows 8 to replace the blank one. Then, in Windows Live Mail, go to the Contacts view where there is an option to Import your Contacts.
yup, got a new computer but this HP printer does not have drivers for widows 8. (and don't have $100.00 to replace it yet). so I need to move this email to this pocket USB hard drive thing so I can take it to the XP computer. once there I've got it made as I've been using XP for years and can do everything I need. I just need to move this email.

how are charter.net contacts handled?
the Windows 8 mail app pulls contacts from common sources like outlook, gmail, facebook, etc.
Hello all:
I own a couple of domains that have various email addresses that I currently download messages to my laptop using Outlook with each email address having its own folder. I would like to move this to some cloud service that allows me to sync all incoming messages and folders between my laptop, iphone, and ipad. I would also like to upload my current folders into the cloud so I have access to my old emails.
WIth the new Office 365 Home Premium, will the version of Outlook "cloudify" my email my email for me and sync it across multiple devices? If not, what cloud should I use so I can get my email anytime, anywhere, on any device and keep it all synced between all devices?
Thanks!

I will be moving to another state soon and would like to let the people in my OE address book know my new email address, but I won't know this address until I get to my new home and subscribe to a new ISP. How can I do this? Thanks in advance.
I have decided to stop using two computers at home...a 2 year old Dell with XP on it and a newer laptop, also with XP. I initially used a third party software, Intellimover, to move everything from the desktop to the laptop. I used the default settings since I just understand the very basics when it comes to hardware. However, after I finished, something that I moved caused error messages in Outlook on the laptop and everything that we tried wouldn't allow Outlook to work right. So, I ended up using the recovery CDs that came with the laptop, since it didn't come with separate CDs that allowed me to reinstall Outlook individually. I've managed to recreate everything on the new computer except for two things.
1. I can't figure out how to move my saved email messages from the old computer to the new one. I have a phone/palm combo, and synched to the old computer, then to the new one, and this moved all of my contacts, calendar, etc. But it didn't move any email.
I found the outlook.pst file on my old computer, but it is too big to copy to a CD or my thumb drive, even if I zip it.
How can I get them from the old computer to the new one in their current format (not forwarding them)?
2. I was using Eudora Internet software to synch my email to my palm on my old computer, and I've downloaded it from the web onto the new one, but it still isn't synching the email. Is there a better free software out there that will get my email onto my palm?... Read more

On the basis that you don't cancel your dial up service you will be able to access your emails from your old (dial up) provider via their web mail site using your new (BB) connection. If you don't use your old (dial up) provider for a length of time they might shut it down eventually but by then everybody should be aware of the new email address provided by your new (BB) provider.

Need help, only have a few days. My wife and I are switching ISP so I need to move her email messages (total messages 2222) from one email provider to her Yahoo account I just created. Is there a way of just moving (dragging) from one account to Yahoo if it is on the same computer? She is using Windows Vista. Please tell me I do not have to send theses one by one. I could sure use some help. Thank you!
The current ISP account, does she use web mail or an email client? It's late for me. I am about to shut down the computer but will check back here during the day.In the meantime, someone else may also offer suggestions/advice/the answer to your question.
4 more repliesHi,
OS - Windows XP SP3
I m using MS Office Outlook 2003. I have created rules & folders for certain email addresses. My issues are as follows.
1. Though rules are created for mails received/sent, only the mails that I receive are moved automatically to specified folders. Mails that I sent are not moved. Recreating the rules didn't fix the issue.
2. When I try to move certain emails on my inbox to folders manualy (select mail - right click - move to folder), the mail below the selected one gets moved instead of the selected mail.
Not sure, whether anyone else experiences such issues. PLEASE HELP!!
Thanx.

I started using MS Outlook Express and I need to copy all of my email from MS Web Access. How do I accomplish this without opening each email and fwd. it to my Outlook Express? All help is appreciated.
hotmail is the only web mail i'm aware of that can be accessed thru oe because you can set up the hm account in some versions of oe.
you might have to forward the mail.
Running XP Pro SP3 on old (P4) box using Thunderbird 38.7.2
Selected "edit" - "find" - 'search messages" with successful results.
In "search messages" results, highlighted desired message (located in "inbox"), selected "move
to" and selected desired folder.
Message appeared in desired folder as null line dated "31/12/1969 7:00 PM"
Other messages in the folder remained unchanged and usable.
Null message can now be moved to different folders but date remains "31/12/1969 7:00 PM"
Further inspection using "edit" - "find" - 'search messages" stipulating date = "31/12/1969"
reveals many messages have been re-dated with same results (blank line and message text
and/or message source not available).
Subsequently updated Thunderbird to 45.3.0 - no changes!

3 more repliesI am in desperate need of help. I have Windows 7 on my C: drive with a dual boot to Windows 10 Beta on my D: drive. I turned on my computer one morning and Windows 7 wouldn't boot saying that it was corrupted. I tried all the repair tools that Windows offers and the only thing I could do is boot into Safe Mode. I am ready to upgrade to Windows 10 and delete the beta version but I need to get my data off of the Windows 7 load. I can access the files on the C: drive with Windows 7 and I tried following instructions for moving my Windows Live Mail to a storage device. It will not let me move it saying that I need Administrator permission. I've tried several things that I have found to get Administrator permission but I still get that message. Does anybody have any suggestions? I really don't want to lose the mail that I had on the Windows 7 drive and I am at a loss as to how to take control of my own computer that I paid for and am the only user of. Microsoft and their stupid permissions make me so mad when they restrict what the owner of a computer can do with that computer. Any suggestions would greatly appreciated. I'll try anything.

Welcome Barb
If it is truly a permissions problem you can get full permission by using the full adminstrator account

Make a new .pst file, add it to outlook along with your imap mail and then manually move it over.

1 more repliesI would like to transfer all of the files on 1 flash drive to another flash drive. Dragging them takes too long. Is there a quicker way to transfer the files?
There really isn't another way to copy them. They have to physically read from one device and write on another. Depending on size of files and how many, it can indeed take a while. The only thing that would speed up the process is if you had USB 3.0 drives. I assume you are using 2.0.

Hello my father has been using outlook express for years downloading his email via POP3 from seznam.cz server. Now he got a notebook so he has a desktop and notebook and he wants to have his sent emails on both machines because he frequently checks what he sent to who. So I thought I will switch settings to IMAP and it will be synchronized with server and both machines. It seems to be working, but I cannot figure out how to move local folders into the IMAP account. I tried in the old Outlook Express and also in Windows Live mail on the notebook ith Win7 and it cannot be done just by mouse. He has a lot of folders in a tree structure so it would be great if I could somehow populate IMAP folders with these. Any ideas? Thanks
actually I want to have just Sent email folder to be IMAP synchronized. The old received can remain as a local folder. There is a big folder tree in a sent email folder though...

After the desktop computer I was using until a couple of weeks ago crashed (permanently), I bought a new computer (AMD quad chip, Windows 7 64 bit). I put the main hard drive from the old computer into a case, and was able to connect it by USB to my new computer to save my data (I copied the libraries onto the new computer), but have not been able to find out how to rescue my Live Mail account information, contacts, message rules and saved or unread emails. Any article I find talks about first exporting the information, but since the hard drive that version of Live Mail is on is no longer bootable, I have no way to export the data. If I can find where to locate it, I would like to be able to copy the files into the new computer, replacing whatever files would be set up when I first start Live Mail. The old computer was Windows 7 32 bit. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Were you signing in to WLM on the old computer? If so, your contacts are at the website contacts.live.com and will be imported into the new program when you sign in. They should also be here for 2011:C:\Users\<windows username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts; (in 2009/2010 the sub-folder under Microsoft is "Windows Live Contacts").
The message store folder is along a similar path ending in "Windows Live Mail".
You could try dragging and dropping the contents of the old folders into the new. I've done this only with contacts to see if it would work for the not-signed-in case. It worked for me in 2009/2010 but in the process I had to answer a lot of prompts with "try again" or "yes" since WLM wants to be sure you really want to do this. BTW, the folders may look empty but that's only beause they are hidden by default; they can be dragged even if not visible by selecting everything in the right pane of the Explorer window showing the folder's contents.
The messages may work the same way. If not you can make them visible by changing the folder/view option to not "hide protected operating system files". Create new folders in Windows Explorer to keep your groups of *.eml files, then use WLM's import messages feature to navigate to each folder separately and bring it's contents in to WLM.
As for the accounts and message rules, I usually just set that up from scratch myself even though there is an export/imp... Read more
I recently noticed an issue in Outlook 2010 - when I receive an email message with a picture (usually an excel spreadsheet pasted as an image), I usually move the email to a PST folder for future reference.
However, my colleagues and I have just noticed that the images from the emails in the PST folder are now missing ! I have searched high and low and cannot find a similar situation post online. There is NO red 'X' in the archived message. If I return the email to the inbox the image is still missing.
I have attached a word document to show what the message in the sent box looks like and what the email in the PST folder looks like.
As you can imagine, we are now sitting on some useless emails that we are unable to reference for future use - and that's quite concerning.
Any suggestions on why this may be happening would be much appreciated.
Note: we ARE ABLE to replicate this issue on all of our staff's PC's, so I do not believe it's a corrupt PST issue.

Nancy
what is the condition of the file if you move it from an NTFS5 drive to an NTFS4 drive on windows 2000?
Thanks
Try and copy it first and check the condition of the file. Moving should be the same, but if it is not readable (doubtul) then you have your original copy still. Let us know what the result is, please.
Dear Sir/Madame,
I was moving video files (AVI) from an external backup drive (WD Element) to another external backup drive (Seagate expansion) after having moved another video file from my laptop (Acer) to that Seagate external drive. The night before I had moved some video files from the WD to the Seagate with no problem but using a different laptop (Sony). These video files are all rather large and I can tell that the space is still being allocated on the Seagate because while the folder cannot be seen the space that was there is still being used by the Seagate because I am missing over 100GB which would be about the size of that now missing folder.
What happened was there was a message that the Seagate drive could not be recognized while the files were in the process of being moved to that drive from the WD. This is after I had already moved a video file of about 26GB with no problem into that now missing folder. When I saw the message I attempted several times to move files to that Seagate drive but I could not so I unplugged the Seagate drive from that laptop (Acer) then reinserted it into the usb port. I got a repair message that said it needed to be repaired because some files were corrupted and that no data would be lost but the drive would be unavailable during the repairs so I checked ok. It took only about 30 seconds and it said the repairs were completed and the drive was available but I noticed that the folder that I was moving the video files to was n... Read more

So I thought let me connect the Seagate to see if Windows will find it there but when I connected the Seagate I still could not access the folder. move the OS (windows 7) to the new C drive?
Why not just use the SSD drive manuf. free utilities to "clone" the old drive to the new one ? ?
1 more repliesA friend gave me an old computer with XP Pro on it, but no backup XP disc. The old hard drive(C) is only 12 GB, so I bought and installed a new internal 250 GB drive(E). I want to transfer all my data from the small C drive to the new E drive and then make the new E drive my Primary master. So far, I have been able to copy the contents of my C drive to the E drive. I'm new to doing this, so I am unclear about where to access the XP operating system and whether I can transfer it to my new drive, so my new E drive will work like my old one. Naturally, I rather not have to buy a new XP disc, if I can move my existing XP to my new drive. Is there a way to do this? Thanks alot for any advice.
Hi there.Welcome aboard.
Yes, there is a way to do this. Follow the instructions in this article. Don't be put off my the size of the article, it's very easy to follow. If you have any problems or queries don't be afraid to ask. Good luck.
I know this question gets asked alot, but I have windows 10 installed on my 120gb ssd, I also have a 1tb hdd that has nothing no it and is completely useless because all of the program files etc is installed on the ssd, the ssd is nearly full too, is there actually a safe way of doing this? I'm quite new to this too.
Keep you OS and Programs on the SSD, but store all you files on the HD.
To move them you can "Drag and Drop" or "Copy and Paste". Do not delete them until you are sure that the move has been successful. When saving new files, select "Save As" and specify the HD Drive letter.
Hi,
I currently have a RAID 1+0 set up with a 4 channel pci Raid card, configured into 3 partitions. The C drive partition resides in this RAID. What I want to do is install a seperate hard drive off the primary IDE channel of the motherboard, and use this as my boot/C drive, while keeping the RAID for data and programs. How can I set up the new C drive and ignore what is on the RAID C drive? I have read in some other posts about doing a repair reinstall of XP Pro, but I'm not exactly sure of the process for moving my current settings. Should I remove the RAID card until the new C drive is set up, and just make sure the BIOS is set to look for the motherboard C drive first? Then hook up the RAID again? And how do I get the old settings into the new install of XP? Could I possibly do this by Ghosting my current C drive?
My current C partition is only 5 GB, which is partly why I want to put it on a larger stand-alone drive. Also, this should improve performance overall.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
docbob

Hi
You have just to change the path in the folder properties.
Make a right click on the folder, choose properties and there should be a option which allows you to change the patch.

1 more repliesI'm sure this has been answered but I cant seem to locate it. Bought a new computer with Windows 7. Followed other recommendations and copied all email from my old computer (outlook express) to flash drive. Opened Windows Live Mail and went to File/Import/Message - Choose Microsoft Outlook 6 as format to import email from. Choose the file on the desktop that I had created and filled with the emails from the flash drive. Selected "all folders". It then imported all the various folders and emails from the desktop folder. Got the message that my folders were imported in Outlook 6 format. Clicked finished. Now comes the weird part. When I go to Windows Live, I cant find the folders anywhere. All of the Storage Folders are empty. Any idea where they are?
Thanks.
I THINK that there may be a tree, with little arrows on the left of the folders. I think if you click on them the tree will expand and show your folders. I did say I think, not really sure.

It will do it (done similar at work across a network). However, get your knitting out or make several sequential cups of coffee.

- does the toggle get moved to 'master' position, is it pulled altogether, or where does the toggle go on a new single channel setup (other drives are SATA) where it will be used as the only IDE for backup purposes only?
If there is nothing else on the IDE Cable but the hdd then the jumper should be set to master.

But I cannot find where the attachment(s) is stored on the harddrive? I've looked everywhere.
The reason is that I want to write a program that will archive windows live emails - and their attachments.

If this is possible, can you refer me to some instructions on how to do this?

To be honest a recovery drive won't give you much space (10 GB or so?). You are better off with a USB external HDD and move your less accessed data to the external.
I wonder what others will say.

Hi there,
I am currently running Windows 7 on a 60gb hard drive. The OS is taking up too much space so i wish to move it to a larger SSD.
I am running into a few issues trying to do this and would appreciate some help.
I've set it to boot from the new drive after using 'Macrium Reflect' to clone the drive.
My computer still seems to boot from the original drive, even when i change it in the bios.
If i unplug the original drive, the get the message 'BootMgr is missing', i also got the message..
'The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessable'
thanks for the help
I'm guessing that Disk 2 is the new larger drive. Notice that neither of the partitions on Disk 2 is marked as "system". That's why it won't boot.
Notice that partition G on the old Disk 0 IS marked "system". That's why you can boot if it's connected.
The "system" marker indicates "this partition contains the boot files necessary to boot your PC".
You can most likely fix that by copying the system files from G to the System Reserved partition on Disk 2. You might have to use a third party program like EasyBCD to do that. Or maybe you can do it by disconnecting Disk 2 and running "System Repair".
I think there is an EasyBCD tutorial on this site.
EasyBCD - NeoSmart Technologies
Or---start over and use Macrium imaging rather than Macrium cloning. Be sure to include ALL partitions on Disk 0 when you make the image. You'd have one image file and just need to restore it to the new drive.
Imaging is usually more problem-free than cloning. I don't use cloning at all, but I'm pretty sure you're situation is fixable if you don't want to try imaging instead.
Others can likely give you more precise instructions.
First off, please, can we just throw this out there:
Reformatting = No no.
Okay, so I've got two drives, a full 75GB one, and a empty 300GB one. Now I'm selling the 75GB one, so that has to go.
But, as you have to understand, it's not in my best interest to get rid of all my games and applications.
So, someone recommended Norton Ghost, to transfer the entire drive over to the other, and then just reinstall windows on the second drive, and then just delete everything on the first one.
Two problems:
1) Would this even work? If it would, where to start? I'm a bit confused.
2) Now here's the really annoying part. Norton Ghost says I only have one hard drive!! This is crazy, because I've already saved some files to the second drive, it seems up and going to me? But yeah, Norton is pretty insistant that I only have one hard drive...
How do I handle this situation?
Is there a different/easier way?

Then install Vista on your new drive, and Restore all your stuff from the back-up dvd's.

Yes! What you want to do is plug both drives in, and then use a linux live CD with GParted to copy the partitions over to the new drive(including the 100MB partition). Then unplug the boot disc, boot up again with the linux live CD and use GParted to make sure it has the same flags as the original (Boot, System, etc). And then you can use GParted to expand the partition size to the entire 620GB.
My old 22-GB C: drive developed bad sectors. Windows XP CHKDSK /x/r did indeed repair and recover everything, as best I can tell. It's working OK today.
However, I take this as a warning that the drive may fail again more catastrophically if I just keep using it. So I'd like to replace it with a (much) larger drive, maybe a 200 GB SATA. What I want to do is install the new drive then use some utility to move EVERYTHING including XP, registry, programs, the works, to the new drive. Then I would remove the old drive and my new drive would be the system drive, with everything running as before, no need to reinstall Windows or my software.
I heard Symantec Ghost can do the trick, but it seems to be overkill, designed for multicast setup of desktop PCs on a network, creation of images to allow restore after a disaster, etc. I also see bad reviews from users. in BizRate.com.
So what should I do? Is there an inexpensive (preferably free, of course) utility that will do the trick? Should I just buy Ghost? Or something else?
Thanx,
al
Best available image/clone/drive setup software is Acronis True Image. It is in version 8 for $49 or version 7 (if you can find it for download on eBay) for $39. The strategy would be to install your new drive as a slave and clone your 22 GB drive to it. The software will allow you to configure the new drive before cloning the old drive to it.
Ghost 9 is essentially Drive Image 7 that has the burden of requiring .NET (~70 MB) that interferes with the size of images you will want to make of your boot drive. Also in that spirit, the page file should be placed in a partition other than C:.
Alternatively, you can clone your drive by doing a basic install of the OS to the C: partition of the new drive with a FAT32 file system, then you can boot to DOS with a Win98 boot disk and selectively copy all of the material to your new drive. Bear in mind that old drive letters will have to be preserved on the new drive in order for the apps transferred to run. If you decide to go with NTFS that can be done after the transfer is complete.
so my dad bought a 1TB hard drive and asked me to copy over his C to his new drive, when i did it on my PC i used Acronis True Image so i took out my cd again installed it and tried the process twice, both times after a "successful" transfer i go to boot the new drive and i get a error thats not able to boot the OS, anyone know why or a better program to try to make this process easier
Years ago when I installed Windows 2000 Pro on a new computer, I just put the OS Cd in and let it set itself up. For some reason it put my hardrive, which should have been in C: under D: This hasn't been a problem for what little I know or do, but now I want to install a Windows XP Update CD and it won't let me because it's trying to install on C: and keeps telling me there's not enough memory in C:
Can I do something to get everything on C:, where it should be, or something I can do to tell the Windows setup to use D:
Please give sep by step instructions, as I'm pretty poor at the computer.
Hi all. I'm using Windows 10 and everything is auto saving to the SSD c drive and consequently it is nearly full. I have found out how to change the default save locations but this does not move the files already on the C drive. I have been successful in moving My Documents folder to the D drive and next I tried to go down the list of files and chose move Pictures, Music etc. Unlike when I moved the documents folder I am no getting this message:-
" Do you want to redirect folder "downloads" into another system folder "Documents" located at D:/. If you proceed with redirection you will not be able to separate them or restore default locaton. Do you still want to proceed with redirection?
Can anyone translate! I don't want to do anything drastic without checking. On the C drive at the moment I have these:-
Intel
program files
program files
Users
Windows
Which should I move if any? Can I go ahead with moving pictures, music etc despite the warning message above? What about my two user accounts can I move them as some websites say you shouldn't. Others say its ok to move them. Thanks if you can help.
All the windows system files, program files (64 bit and x86) and user files should not total more than maybe 35-45gb.
You should just be able to copy over all music, videos, photos, documents to the D drive, then just delete them from the C 'SSD' drive.
Don't move anything except that personal data, ie do not move any system (inc users), or program data.
i went into disk management to reduce drive D and increase drive C. I managed to shrink drive D to unallocated space but when I tried to increase drive C by the same amount the extend volume option was greyed out. What am I doing wrong?
