Extracting emails and addresses from Outook

Question: Extracting emails and addresses from Outook

Hi.. I have a number of Outlook pst files from different versions of Outlook and I want to be able to read and extract emails into a new .pst file for Outlook 2003 (or a number of .pst files as I have a lot of emails going back some years!). I also want to extract all contacts into a .csv file so I can transfer them into various other address books such as Outlook Express, XING etc. Anyone know of a really excellent application that will allow me to do this? Thanks Richard

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a mac as well as a pc. The pc has outlook on it. I do not believe I have outlook on my mac. Could someone explain step by step how I can save these emails? I want them to be saved as they are with no changes possible.

Can anyone recommend a freeware program for extracting email addresses from an Outlook Inbox folder please? There are plenty of programs to do this but they are all either too expensive or only let you save a few addresses on the trial version. I only want to run this on a folder of about 200 messages so it is not really worth spending a l;ot on a program I will only use once.

Answer:Extracting Email Addresses

What do you want to do with these addresses? I only ask because I have recently exported my Outlook adds to put on another computer - that was done from within Outlook.

I installed Outlook on another computer and can't access any of my contacts. I guess Outlook does not save the contacts automatically when I send someone an email. How is the quick search address installed. I think it is when I send and email to someone it remembers their address and then I can just type in the 1st letter or two of their name and will show me the email address. I replaced the PST file with the old PST from another machine. If I put some contacts in my address book shouldn't I just be able to start typing their name in a new message and the email address show up. What is the cheapest/best program for extracting email addresses in outlook from inbox/sent messages. It doesn't seem like the address book is talking to sending someone and email like it does in hotmail,Gmail. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

This is a slight variation on a problem I saw solved on this board about a year ago. I tried to add to that thread, but it's too old. I have a 2300+ row x 1 column Excel spreadsheet of e-mail addresses. Most of them have a text name and the e-mail address, ie: firsname lastname [[email protected]]. I need to strip out everything but the e-mail addresses themselves. Most of the e-mail addresses have [brackets] around them, so I just need to either extract the e-mail from within the brackets or delete the brackets and everything outside of them. I don't know what command does that in Excel. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Extracting e-mail addresses from Excel cells

How about this:=MID(A1, FIND("[",A1)+1, FIND("]",A1)-FIND("[",A1)-1)MID(text, start_num, num_chars)The start_num is determined by FIND("[",A1)+1 which returns the location of the first character after the [num_chars is determine by FIND("]",A1)-FIND("[",A1)-1 which returns the number of characters between the [ ] based on the location of the [ ] in the referenced cell. You could then do an Edit...Copy...PasteSpecial values.Another option is to do a Data...Text to columns...Delimited on the [This will return [email protected]]The do an Edit...Replace ] with nothing, Replace all.Either way, it's a 2 step process.

Hi Everyone, this is my first time here. I joined the forum to talk about a project I have to perform. I need to go to specific College and University sites and extract a total of 4million emails. I was told I could use Visual Web Ripper to do it, however, it costs $300 and I can't spend that right now. So, I am asking if anyone knows of a way I can do this for free and what software I can use to get it done.

Thanks in Advance.

Answer:Extracting emails from Websites

Given the fact that there is no objective given as to why you need to get 4 Million Email addresses, we wont assist. The CAN-SPAM Act strictly forbids email that is obtained from spiders to be spammed.

CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business | BCP Business Center

I cant forsee a reason why a project for a College or Uni would require so many addresses to be needed. If it is for work, then it is clearly not for a database of users for the company. They are looking to mass mail, which is classified as illegal.

Given that we have no clear purpose as to why, this topic will be closed. You will have to find your answer elsewhere.

I reformatted my parents hard drive in order to install windows XP. Unfortunately, i forgot to back up the emails before i did so. I did, however, make a backup image using norton ghost. I have since been attempting to retrieve the emails and have been very unsuccessful. Websites that i googled on this topic all say that the easiest way to remove emails from it is to actually run the application and export them somehow. Seeing as how i reformatted the drive, this isnt too terribly easy. Has anyone successfully done this before? Any tips/recommendations? I attempted to just put the backup image onto a drive and boot the windows 98(ick) back up, but was having many many problems with this. All i know is that Thunderbird makes this a whole lot easier...

If you want to try it manually, search for the *.mbx files on the old computer and drag them over to the new one (either by importing or by manually stuffing it into the Outlook Express folder).

The *.wab file in the same location should be the address book if you want to save it too.

I have been turning to Major Geeks for quite some time to solve my problems and usually am able to fix things by refering to other users' posts. However, I haven't been able to solve this one.

Whenever I connect to the internet, I start sending emails to random people. The "Symantec Email Proxy" from my Norton Antivirus starts scanning several messages to be sent and I get popups whenever the send fails with messages such as "You message to [email protected] with the subject of RE: could not be sent becauase...."

I have followed all the instructions from READ & RUN ME FIRST and I have attached the scan logs.

I was not able to go through the steps in safe mode because when I enter the safe mode, the window only fills a square in the center of my screen and the rest is a black border. I don't know how to change the size.

Hopefully I am not in the wrong place for this.....I've been working with the virus forum. Upon doing some of the scans, etc, I think I may have done something to cause my Outlook Express to stop sending emails to MSN/Hotmail addresses.  The emails come back as being rejected........Is it because MSN messenger was deleted? Or is that just an application used for chatting? Thanks !

Answer:Outlook unable to send emails to MSN addresses

Deleting MSN Messenger should not cause all emails to be rejected, since that is only a chatting application. You may need to contact your ISP to see if they have made any recent changes and just explain the problem you are having. However, before you do that, you should create a new hotmail or MSN email address for yourself and try send send a test email to yourself from outlook express. If that does not work, try going to your ISP's website and send a message from their WebMail portal to that same test MSN/Hotmail account you set up. If that works, then most likely it is some port setting in outlook express that needs to be configured. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I recently purchased the new MS Office 2007 - Home and Student Edition. I was upgrading from a previous MS Office 2003 Professional Edition. I used to work out of my home and required MS Office Pro in those days and then when MS brought out Office 2007 - I no longer needed the MS Office Pro license (as I was now working at the office full-time) so I bought the Home and Student Edition for my home computers (although I bought 10 licenses of the MS Office Pro edition for my office.) I was constantly getting a message when I would try and download templates and clipart from MS website that my previous 2003 version was the professional version and my upgrade was the Home and Student version so it wouldn't let me download anything. I did some research and discovered that the best way to handle this would be to delete MS Office Pro -2003.
YIKES - I did not realize that MS Outlook was part of the Pro edition and I lost all my emails, addresses, plane tickets, theatre tickets, everything that I had filed in my emails. Do you have any idea how I might be able to get this back - I still have unused licenses of the MS Office 2007 Pro Edition if that would help. Any suggestions that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

If you go to Start > 'Find' and look for '*.dbx'this will give you the location of all the OE folders and files. You could try importing these from File> Import > Messages in OE.Your contacts (Address Bookk) can be imported the same way. Address book files (*.wab) are usually located in Windows>Application data> Microsoft> Address Book.

Worm or malware caused me to have to change my user profile in Windows 7. I have everything back looking more or less like it did before this disaster and I am once again able to get into Internet Explorer but when I go to my Mozilla Thunderbird email, it is as if I have used it before and I had to put my user name and password in again to get the program running but it does not show any of my old emails or addresses. Can someone walk me through how to copy those over or into my newly setup Thunderbird? Staples told me the could do it for me for 39.95 but I think I could do with help. Maybe lots of help. I have read over the Mozilla Thunderbird help on how to create a new profile and copy the old one over it but I am starting to think my brain is not working right as I haven't got it done yet! Some things are just hard for me to understand. Please be patient with me. Thanks for the help!

Answer:Mozilla Thunderbird, lost emails and addresses??

I'm not at home, so you get short version for now:
user appdata local thunderbird
user appdata roaming thunderbird
-- those are the "storage bins" for everything you've configured, set up, received, sent, etc. via thunderbird
While not having tbird active, you can copy both directories, local to local, roaming to roaming, then fire up tbird again.
I've done this for years [for tbird, emC, FF, GC & IE], so if more help's needed, I'll watch this thread

My old Win98 comp OS died and I was in a hurry to get access to my files so I have put the Hard Drive into an external box to use with my lap top.

Unfortunately the old computer was my Internet access and had all of my old emails, addresses & favourites/bookmarks on the hard drive. I now find myself needing to access those old emails more and more; worse I need my addresses and favourites back.

How can I transfer the old emails, addresses & favourites to my lap top?
I have no idea where they are kept or what the file names are.
I think thunderbird may be able to find my old addresses is that correct?
Do I need to transfer the files first OR install thunderbird and FireFox first.

Windows XP SP2
Outlook 2002

We send out emails to people that have signed up to our website but not completed the process.

We then receive loads of failed emails due to incorrect addresses, closed addresses, over quota etc.

Currently we have to search each failed email, get the email address and search for that on our member database.

This is very time consuming so I have spoken to our web designer who states that if we could get a list of the email address from the failed emails then he could bring up all the data we need.

So the question is can we automatically search the failed emails and create a list of the email addresses.

I have four Facebook accounts and I am receiving spam emails to my regular email address, from people on my Facebook friend's list to the email addresses from all four of those accounts. they all contain the same spam link & this friend doesn't even know those four email addresses. he is friends with all four accounts. he knows my primary email address not associated with any of my Facebook accounts which doesn't receive the spam like the others do. these email addresses that get the spam from range from Pokémon, MLP, or Skyrim themed addresses which has names that he doesn't even know or could begin to spell. I know his email address because he associated only one email with Facebook and I sent him stuff before. the spam comes from that email he has that I know and he uses to log into Facebook with.
How is it that the emails associated with my Facebook accounts get into his email to be spammed when he doesn't even know them?

Answer:I am receiving spam emails to my regular email addresses, from people on Faceboo

I think you will need to clarify as this is a little confusing.
Let me see if I get this straight:
You have 4 email addresses that are associated with 4 FB accts. We will call them [email protected],com [email protected],com, [email protected],com, and [email protected],com.
The spam you are receiving is from those contacts on your Facebook pages (all 4 of them).
The part that confused me was this:

I have four Facebook accounts and I am receiving spam emails to my regular email address, from people on my Facebook friend's list to the email addresses from all four of those accounts.

To which email?  I thought you were only getting them to your "private email" account (we will call [email protected],com).  Are you also getting those same spam emails to your email accounts associated with those 4 Facebook accounts?
This needs to be clarified before being able to figure out what has happened. Some Facebook email spam appears to be from Facebook but really isn't. OR could be from a hacked email account or a hacked Facebook account.

Thanks so much for any advice given,

Answer:outook calendar

Hello and Welcome to TSF

I cannot answer your first question, there is not enough information to go off of. You need to post a complete error message and when you recieve this error.

As for question 2, yes you can solder those connections back on to the motherboard but sometimes they dont hold as they stated. You may just have had a unexperienced person do the soldering, hard to tell.

Here we go again - another problem with Outlook, but this time I think it is Yahoo UK (please note UK):

I have had 1 email acct with gmail and 2 email accts with Yahoo UK. They have worked fine until a few days ago. When I try send/receive one Yahoo account came up with error 0x800CCC92. I finally removed it and when I tried putting it in as new, the test message would not work. After repeated attempts, I now can send for some reason, but for receiving I get:

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR (AUTH) Incorrect username or password.

I can access my email on the web for that account with no problem. All of the settings are exactly the same as the Yahoo account that works and I still cannot get the incoming to work on this one.

Any ideas?

Answer:Outook 2010 ERR (AUTH)

2 days after this post, Yahoo sent & received with no problems and I did nothing to make that happen. All was fine until today - it is happening again!

I've just ordered Outlook Office 2007 which has Outlook 2007 included. However I've just thought - I have activesync 3.8 which works perfectly with my PDA (HP2210) at the moment. Will installing Outlook 2007 cause any problems?

Answer:Outook 2007 + Activesync 3.8

I do not know if you will have problems but in any event it would probably be better to bring Active Sync up to date - it is v4.5 now.

I finally ditched Outlook for my emails and went with Thundrbird, which looks like a great program. However, I still have to rely on Outlook for the Calender and Tasks features. I looked around a little, and found Lightning, but the reviews where not completely supportive. And I would like to have it integrated in my email client, so Sunbird is probably out.

I looked around and for some reason I can't create a email template in outlook 2007.
I found this:

Save the email as a template. Select the "Office" button, and then "Save As" in the "Save as type" drop-down list. Select "Outlook Template." Give the template a name, and choose a file location, or accept the default folder of "Templates." Click "Save."

BUT there is no option in the SAVE AS drop down menu for Save As Template....

Answer:Can't create outook template

HiI don't use Outlook. However I do use other Office applications. When I want to save a Document or Excel Template I click on File on the toolbar and select Save as.In the dialog box that opens, I click on the down arrow at the end of the box that says Save as type and this gives me the options to save the file as a template (amongst other things).

I've been having problems with Outlook Express crashing and/or having problems that keep giving me an error message about the log file being too big or something. I keep my sent file folder and deleted file folder relatively empty. My inbox has less than 20 items in it, none of them huge. Can anyone tell me how and where I can fix this? If there is no fix, if I download a new copy of Outlook Express over the old one, will my address book reamin in tact? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Outook Express - log file problem

Try some maintenance first and see if this helps to clear it up.
Close all programs except Outlook Express, including any antivirus programs you may have running.

First in OE, Tools>Options>Maintenance, uncheck the option for: Compact messages in the background and leave it unchecked from now on.

File>Folder>Compact all Folders. Leave the computer alone until it has completed compacting.

Let us know if this resolves the problem or not.

This is entirely frustrating since I tend to view emia messages multiple times during the day.

I created a database in Access 2007. I am a relative newbe at this. One of the functions that I am using is a macro that Microsoft supplied as part of a Contacts table/form template to add Contacts from Outlook to the Contacts table in the the database. It was working just fine until I split the database, putting the tables on a server and the front end on my local PC. After splitting, it will no longer work. I have spent hours searching the Web and found 100's for people asking the same question, but no solution. Front and back end files are all in Trusted locations. Went back to a copy of the pre-split database (which still worked) and copy the object to the new split database. Would not work in the new database. . Saw some talk about using a temp Contacts table, but it did not give enough detail for me to follow.

Anyone have any ideas

I am operating on Windows 7 OS and am having difficulty with Outlook for Office 2010. It always asks for a password each time I sign on and when I open an email. For some reason it doesn't store my password.

Answer:Outook 2010 always requires password

That problem is by no means unique to Outlook 2010, it happens also on Outlook 2007 and on the version before that, and neither is it unique to Windows 7.

Try putting your POP3 server name and password into the "Credential Manager" in Control Panel. For good measure I entered my email credentials twice -- in "Windows Credentials" and in "Generic Credentials". I hardly see that pesky password prompt since doing that.

I know there have been some posts going back over a year, but none of them fully solve this issue. For years, the best way to sync Outlook 2010(without corporate exchange server) to the windows phone has been to use the Google Calendar connector to get to their cloud and then onto the Windows phone. This had the advantage of doing two-way synchronization and working with the default calendar in Outlook (the existing .PST file).
Google fully discontinued this service on August 1. Microsoft does not have as simple a solution. The two options I've seen for cloud syncing are to use the Microsoft Hotmail Connector and to use Google App Sync. The Hotmail Connector does not work with the default Outlook profile which means than when an invitation is received from any email account other than hotmail/ it saves to the default calendar, and you then have to copy it to the hotmail calendar in order to sync. The Google App Sync requires a whole different profile with a migration which is an equally big headache or possibly greater. So, neither of these options work without making a lot of manual intervention.
I've been using a local sync program called CompanionLink to sync contacts, notes and tasks. It can sync the calendar but has a couple of disadvantages. 1) you need to manually sync calendar which is not good if constantly on the go and always want to have your appointments. 2) CompanionLink does not feed appointments into the native calendar so it won't appear on the loc... Answer:How to sync Outook 2010 (non-corporate) with Windows phone?

Frankly the best solution is to sign up for MS Office 365. The cheapest plan (Exchange Online) is $4 per month per user, so for $48/year, you'll get seamless sync of contacts, calendar, tasks, and if you choose, email and more, across Outlook and Windows Phone.
Not free, but works much better than Google's App Sync, the Hotmail Connector, and any of the local sync solutions, and it'll work great with any other devices you add in to sync with (since everything supports EAS).

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with an Outlook 2007 issue a user has been having. Last week, our exchange server was flooded by a lot of e-mails, causing our users messages they tried to send out to fail and given a Outlook delivery delayed message for each. The issue was solved but I have one user who still has a delivery delayed mail in this inbox and upon trying to open it, Outlook crashes and if you try to deleted it, you get the message:

"One or more items in the folder you synchronized do not match. To resolve the conflicts, open the items, and they try this operation again."

I was thinking this notification was in sync with the e-mail that was delayed, so I did a search and couldn't not find anything related to it. Any ideas on who to get rid of this troublesome message?

Hi all. Irritating & timewasting beyond belief - even for Microsoft - is a hidden shortcut in either Outlook 2007, Office 2007 or perhaps in Windows 7. Centred apparently on the "T" key, a combination of keystrokes reduces the display size of text I type. At enormous waste of time, each occurrence can be remedied, via the View tab in Outlook 2007, then the "zoom" facility. But how do I a) locate the set up instructions for this shortcut, and b) alter or reload them?

I'm a reasonably sensitive typist: this glitch is wasting sooo much of my time. Am in the dire straights of using new Windows 7, with new Office 2007 apps, on a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1545.

Advice on shortcut set-up in Outlook 2007, and or in Windows 7 will be much appreciated. Thanks

I can type the IP address of web sites and that works fine...
NO viruses or spyware, fresh install of XP (about a week old)

If I goto the diagnostics of the dsl modem and check connections everything comes back fine...
dsl, PPPoE, DNS ... and if I send a ping request from within the firmware of the dsl modem it works good, but like i said previously if I use ping from the cmd line it doesn't work; unless i ping the IP address directly

I'm sorry if i'm not comunicating my problem well enough but if anyone has any ideas i would apreciate it

Are you using static addressing or are you letting the PC receive IP information via DHCP? Check to see if you have DNS server addresses configured on the pc; if they are configured, then make sure they are correct for her ISP. If there are no DNS servers configured, then try putting in her DNS servers' addresses. I'm not sure what the root problem is, but that should at least allow her to resolve domain names.

I am a member of a website where you get extra points if you get other people to sign up - referrals. I know this is lame, but I just wanted to see if it would work, so I tried to refer myself using a diff email address but it would not work - I'm assuming it has something to do with my IP address thing. Is it possible to fix this prob? Perhaps setup different user accounts in the control panel (Windows XP)? That might be too much trouble though - not sure how long it takes to log off, switch user, login, etc.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. i have never quite understood how to do this "elegantly" -- cut/paste doesn't work and nothing on the file/edit pulldowns seem to help.

cut/drag down to taskbar and release into folder at least gets the job done ( on), but it feels muy "kludgy" to me. how are you actually SUPPOSED to do it?

anyway, lately i am finding a few pix which show up BLACK after I release them. the files are far from empty -- 100k, 250k, things like that -- but the images are completely gone (or 3/4 gone in one case).

i am sure i have dragged SOMETHING into those files - why can't i see them?

my gut feeling says that it has something to do with "layering", like in photoshop. i.e., my pic IS there, but somehow i've dragged a diff level of solid black along with it, and somehow "bumped" it to the foreground.

just a gut feeling. i'm all ears to alternative theories. why does a perfectly visible pic in a PDF turn solid black when dragged into some 178k (say) .BMP file??? more importanly, how do i OVERCOME it?

happening on about 1 in 10 pix.

Question: Self extracting

This is the first time I've been toying with things of this nature, and it began as messing around with some friends, so please bear with any outlandish noobness.
I'm trying to create an .exe (using iexpress.exe) that will run a .bat.
Inside of the .exe will be two .bats: the command itself and the one that both extracts executes the command
The first .bat to be run will in turn extract and execute the command to a default location
The second .bat will be the command that is extracted

I have the concept down, and from what I've read, it's possible to do this (I could be wrong, and suspect I am),

What I'm curious about is the actual text that must be input at the Command Prompt to extract the file from the .exe to another location.

I have the command and the execution of the command written down. My problem is the middle ground; getting the command to a location from where it can be run.

TL;DR: How does I make a cmd prompt line to extract/move a file to a certain location?

It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003.Click to expand...

MS Office Outlook sending emails but no emails to send? I have added a few new accounts to my outlook and have had nothing but problems since. It is important that I keep these emails in my outlook, because I work from home and need to access these accounts. I have recently noticed, whenever I hit send receive, the number rises everyday, which now has me concerned. Each account has a different amount "sending", but nothing is in the outbox. IE: account A: sending 1 of 135, Account B: sending 1 of 1020 and so on. I also read online somewhere that if I was a torrent user, that "is" my problem, but I have stopped using it for weeks and there is no traffic going in or out, and I've turned the program off completely.

I've used Outlook for years, with many accounts and have never had problems. I've noticed more problems since this 'sending' message has started. I also noticed, I was the ONLY one at work not getting any SPAM for at least 2 yrs, UNTIL, I took a few days off, went back to work and BAM, hit with SPAM. Its a bloody nuisance because my accounts are linked with "rules and alerts", so if one is infected, all others follow behind! Has one or all of my accounts been compromised? If so, can it be fixed?
