Solved: Sort msgs by name AND date

Question: Solved: Sort msgs by name AND date

I've used Outlook Express for many years, so I'm somewhat embarrassed to be asking this question now. I frequently have to locate all the message sent by someone, so click the "From" column header to group the messages by sender. Problem is, I'd also like the message for each sender by in descending date order. I can't find any way to do that; it seems OE will only sort on one column and the date column is random. Is there as way to sort message by more than one column?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hello, I am having difficulty getting Excel to sort by date with the following dates:

Column A
09/20/2012
09/21/2012
10/20/2012
02/20/2012

When I select "sort newest to oldest" it sorts the dates this way:

10/20/2012
09/20/2012
09/21/2012
02/20/2012

I have verified that the dates are not formatted as text and have altered the way the date is shown, trying it without the zero and with the zero and nothing changes.

Help!

It seems like it's always what would seem like the easiest things always turn out to be the the hardest to actually accomplish.

I'm running Netscape 7.1 and right now my email is sorting my various email folders in ascending order by date. I know that by clicking on the date header you can change that sorting to descending order. The problem is that I can't seem to get that change to "save". Everytime I open the email interface the sort order is back to ascending order. What do I need to do to make that change to descending order the default - and to make it stick.

I desperately need to sort my files downloaded using DownThemAll by the date the file was added to the directory. Date created could have been months or years in the past. Date saved could have been months or years in the past. Is there a way to sort the files by the date the file was added to the directory. I need to download to the same general directory in order to avoid dups.

In Windows 7 you can show more columns by right clicking the top bar just check there, there are quite a few date options.

Hoping to get some help on this question please. I have reviewed the forum and found a similar post, but the sample data is more predictable than mine and the Macro posted doesn't work on my data. See post "Excel Macro to Move data in Rows to column" 28-Aug-2008, 05:47 AM".

On my data, I would like to be able to take the yellow row, and move the data up to the previous row starting in column "R". The rows I would like on the same line, all begin with a date. I don't know how to make a looping Macro that will identify the "date lines", and take the "second date line", and move it to the "first date line's" row.

Any help would be appreciated.
I have attached some sample data. (I hope that's okay?!)

Thank you!!!!
Christine

PS - The range on data varies.

Answer:Solved: Excel Macro to sort data by date, then move to new cell

Christine,

this macro below works well with the sample data.
Code:
Sub sorting()
Dim Rng As Range, c As Range, i As Long
Set Rng = Range("A:A").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants, xlNumbers)
For Each c In Rng
i = (i + 1) Mod 2
If i = 0 Then
With c.Resize(, 15)
.Copy .Offset(-1, 17)
.ClearContents
End With
End If
Next
End Sub

How it works:
1. Takes all those cells in column A of the active sheet that contain numbers. (Dates are actually numbers, only formatted to look like dates.)
2. In a loop, it takes every second cell of the set of cells selected in Step #1.
3. Takes a 15 cells wide region starting with the cell selected in Step #2, and copies it to the region starting with the cell positioned one row up and 17 columns to the right.
4. Deletes the content of the original 15 cells wide region.

Caution:
1. If there are any numbers in column A besides dates, then the algorithm is wrong and the macro will fail.
2. If the dataset in the second date line is wider than 15 cells wide then the rest will remain in place. But the macro can be easily updated, just change the Resize line.
3. Don't run it twice on the same worksheet.
4. Always make a backup copy of your data before running the macro, because it is not Undo-able.

Help! This should be easy but I can't get it to work.

I have a report that must group by Trip# and sort by ascending activity date all of the various activities that took place on multiple days of the trip.
Further, the trip with the earliest date must come first regardless of the Trip#.
I've accomplished getting the earliest starting date trip first and grouping its detail with a unique string made up of the earliest date of each trip formatted to YYYYMMDD+Trip#. This prints a trip total and works fine.

But the daily activity for the trip is out of date sequence.
Adding a Date field to the 'Sorting and Grouping' insists on breaking on and printing a sub-total for each of the trips activity dates.
Without the sorting & grouping by date the trip records are out of sequence even though the data source query is sorted ascending by activity date.

(see attachments that show the above)

The only solution I can think of is to create a sub-report sorted by activity date.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

I need something that will read this column and output it as yyyy.mm.dd into a separate filed so Excel will sort it properly in chronological sequence.

At present the "date" sort only sorts on the first 2 numerics, ie dd and sorts then from 1-31, irrespective of the balance of the date field.

Hope someone can help.

Question: Sort date daily

I have a big problem with this daily report since I have to do it manually every single day. Is there a way to automated this in macro or vlookup . Help Name Room Status From DateWayne,G 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10Chin, P 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10King, L 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10Cohen, A 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/101. Answer:Sort date daily

Hi,Here is a macro that should do what you want.Your source data is in a worksheet named "Source"Your report is created in a worksheet named "Report"If these are not the names used, either change the names of the worksheets or change them in these lines in the macro: 'change name of source worksheet here
strSrcWS = "Source"
'change name of report worksheet here
strRptWS = "Report"The source data is in these columns, starting at row 2 A B C D E
1 Name Room Status From Date
2 Wayne, Greg 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10
3 Chin, Peter 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10
4 King, Larry 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10
5 Cohen, Alex 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/10
Due to the way that the macro finds the end of the source data, all cells in column A below the last data must be empty. On the report page the date will be entered in cell C1 as follows: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name StatusAdd the other headings, as shown. When the macro is run, this is the result: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name Status
3 1/23/10 Wayne, Greg Medicare
4 1/23/10 King, Larry Insurance
The macro is triggered by either changing the date in cell C1 on the report page, or to re-run for the same date, select C2, click in the formula bar and click the adjacent check mark.As changes made by Macros cannot be undone with the Undo button, test this macro on a copy of your data. Always make a backup of your Workbook before running this macro. This code has only been tested on sample data, and it has not been tested ... Read more

I have input dates into my database table in the short date formula for example: 01/07/2005. Can anyone tell me how to sort these dates in a chronological order? If i try to sort them as they are they just appear in ascending order using the first 2 numbers for example using the above date layout '01'. I have several different years on the database. How can the years and dates be sorted chronologically???Help much appreciated thankyou!!!

Answer:Access 2000 'date sort'

it sounds like you are recording the dates as text. This is why they are being sorted 01/01, 01/02 etc.The easiest solution would be to see if you can convert the field in the table to a date field. If this is not possibel then you could try either the format, or convert function in the query to convert the field to a date, then sort on that.If you need any help on the convert or format function please post back here.

I am using a program that OCR's a page and then creates a folder for it inside an output folder...
Goes like this:
Input folder -> OCR program -> Output folder -> [Folder just for that document]

I keep the output folder open so that i can see the new folders being created for the OCR records, which i can then drag additional files to that records folder.
Since im dealing with thousands of folders im depending on vista to sort by date modified so that the newest one shows up on top.... But im running into a problem

I've done about 700 records now (700 folders have been created) and for some reason the date modified stopped working. Now the new folder is showing up at the end instead of the beginning. If i hit F5 to refresh the window it move to the top where it should be.... but im going through thousands of records and hitting F5 for every record consumes time and makes room for error.

Why did vista stop sorting by date modified? I didnt change anything, all of the sudden it just stopped being consistent. I can restart the computer and sometimes it will start working properly again for about 30 records, but its not guaranteee.

Please help me fix this, THANKS!

One option is to create a Library with your preference. Don't know why, but Libraries are sorted folders first and then by date (if you select by date of course..)

Creating Library is simple... First make sure Libraries are shown (in file explorer in left tree right click on empty space and select New. Then you add folders.

hi,
when i download photos from my canon camera, they are all put in a folder that is named according to the DOWNLOAD DATE. i'd like the photos to go into folders that are named according to the SHOOTING DATES. this was the behavior of windows in the past and for some reason it changed.
can you tell me how to change this and to get the photos sorted according to the date they were taken?

can you also tell me how to number the photos continuously, instead of numbering from 1 on each new date? i'd like the photos from day one numbered 1 to 14, from day two 15 to 23, and so on.

Answer:Sort downloaded photos by date taken

Hi tamirhoresh

I use the following free application to organize my images as part of my workflow.

cam2pc - Image Viewer and fully featured Digital Imaging software to Download, Organize, Modify and Share your photos

It has a down loader that should work with your camera and will allow much finer control than any of the manufacturers offerings. It will even re-name your existing structure to what you decide to go with

It can actually create folders and image filenames from the files own internal MetaData.

There is a Paid version but have found that the freeware does everything I need.

It is compatible with MS photo programs but actually contains a good set of display options so may even replace them

Whenever I open a folder and want to "sort by date (modified)", Windows 7 sorts by descending order. I have to click again to get ascending order (in XP this was not a problem). Is there a registry hack or some other way of getting Windows 7 to sort by (modified) date in ascending order when you click on "sort by date"? Various searches have only come up with bogus or obvious answers (e.g., click again to change order, "group by" (which doesn't maintain setting when reset to "sort by date"), etc.). Right click the folder, select properties, select the customize tab (or press Alt-V, "Customize this folder" from inside the folder) and make sure "All items" is selected from the first drop down.

I wish Vista would always just default to the All items view. It selects a bad default way too often.

Answer:How to sort by Date Accessed in all folders?

I'm assuming this is what you are after.
1. Click the Start Menu Orb and then Search for cmd. Once that comes up Right-Click cmd.exe and SelectRun as administrator.
2. The UAC prompt will appear… Click Yes!
3. Now in the cmd prompt, Type in “ fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 0 “ and Press Enter.
4. Restart your PC for changes to take affect.

After restart
1. Switch the Window view to Details.
2. Right-Click category bar and Click More…
3. On the next window Scroll down and Check the box for Date Accessed and then Press OK.
That’s it! Now when you do Windows Searches it will pull up and show the Date accessed category.

Hope this helps Dan

The same feature exists in Vista and Win7. Just be sure to right-click on the headers at the top of ecah olumn to pick the headings you want (be sure to add Modified Date), drag the new header(s) you added to the right position you'd like them -then click on any of them to sort by that column header.

Hello. If I select Date from the "Arranged By" field in Outlook 2007, it sorts by the date each message was received. I know that I can sort by the sent date by clicking on "Custom", then under Sort selecting Sent. This is a pain to go through all of this, however, since Outlook reverts back to the received date every time I sort by something else or search for an email, etc. I'd like to know if there is a way I can change Outlook so the default date sort is the sent date instead of the received date. I'm fine with editing the registry and what-not if need be.

Ive got a folder on an HDD that wasnt modified when I installed vista I installed vista on a completely new HDD. Now in windows explorer in vista that folder thats on a completely separate drive is missing roughly 100 files completely randomly. Not any specific order I can find to whats missing (date, abc, etc) theyre just not showin up. The file size of the folder doesnt indicate theyve been deleted they just arent showin up.

On my external hard drive, I have a ton of photos from different cameras that retain the weird file-naming scheme that the camera implements so the order is weird and out of whack. I've been wanting to organize these photos and thought the best way to do it would be to sort it by date; however, when I click the sort-by date tab, it takes FOREVER to sort it.

It's weird because this seems to only happen with certain folders and not others within the same drive so I'm pretty baffled as to why this happens and how to fix it.

I tried to do a search on the forum to see if anyone else encountered a similar problem by searching the word "sort" but I came up empty. Any help would be appreciated!

We have a list of ladies and the dates their babies are due. There's another column in the list with a date that they left our care - maybe moved away or transferred to another office. So if the transfer date is blank, sort by due date, with all those transferred at the end.

Advice please? Thanks!

(Running Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1)
I'm a professional photographer and have recently begun shooting with two cameras simultaneously at events. They use different file names to avoid duplicate names/confusion, i.e. IMG_175000 and XMG_175000. Often times I'll take a photo with one camera and then take a photo immediately after it with the other camera and I'd like both of these images to be organized in the same subfolder and shown sequentially, but by default Windows Explorer lists all the "XMG_######" photos at the end and the IMG_###### photos at the beginning. I can manually sort each individual folder by going to "Sort by - Date" or even better, selecting "Sort by - More... and putting a check mark next to "Date Taken" so that it shows up in the Sort options (which it doesn't automatically) and then sorting by Date Taken, but since I'm dealing with hundreds of subfolders with hundreds of thousands of photo and video files I'd like a way to do this for all the files in these subfolders that isn't manual.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer automatically arrange every file (both image and movie files) inside the various subfolders inside one root folder by Date or Date Taken instead of automatically always sorting them by name?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Making files in subfolders sort by "Date" or "Date Taken" by default?

Hello XMGING, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could set a folder how you like it, then use the method in the tutorial below to apply it to all folders that use the same folder template.

Folder View - Apply to Folders

Hope this helps,

I have a folder of about 20,000 photos from a digicam that I'm organizing for a friend, since I'm rebuilding the system I couldn't bare the mess and had to tackle this too. I've gone through with software to remove the duplicates but now I want to put them into folders labeled by their date created, or date modified. Is there a command for this? Or even a prog.

Answer:Command to sort 20k photos into date modified albums?

I use ThumbsPlus to organize my photos. It has an auto rename feature, so you could sort by date and then rename by year/month or whatever, but it's notsuper automated - you would basically need to rename each months worth of files, which may or may not be a lot of work.

It's not super cheap if all you want to do is rename some files, but I think it has a free 30 day trial.

Is it possible, without scripting in VBA, to sort Outlook 2003 contacts by last saved/edited date? All,
Windows Explorer is sorting files on a network drive always by name. It doesn't save sorting by modification date. Where can I reset this behavior?
We had temporarily activated GPOs at "User Configuration," / "Preferences" / "Control Panel Settings." / "Folder Options (Windows Vista and later)." / (Hide Extensions for Known File Types), but I think that's not
directly related.
Thank you in advance.

I have a music folder with 1,440 files and 38 folders and I like to keep the ones I've just added at the top. When I set the folder to sort by Date, it usually takes about a minute for the folder to show fully. The hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I don't want to put them all on an SSD (12.5GB).

Edit: I fixed it by changing the shortcut I was using from D:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\Music.library-ms\ to D:\Users\x\Music\.

could you give me more info on your pc

A great way to do this is going to your start menu and at the search typing in dxdiag and hitting enter.

then clicking save all information (this will save it to a .txt file) and copying that information onto here

When I open file explorer and select certain folders, it opens in the alpha sort. When I go to sort on dates, it takes forever in Windows 10, and has pretty much since launch. Don't remember this on Win7. Are there any switches I could throw, or other config changes I can make to address this?

my mom has 6 years of photos on one of her 500GB HD's. She hates windows 7. Her latest complaint that I have not been able to figure out is folder sorting.

Mom has a folder called "camera dump" in the "my pictures" folder.
In the camera dump she has 6 years of folders containing photographs.

Currently windows 7 is sorting the left side screen like this:

1-18-2013
1-21-2014
2-05-2011
2-05-2012

The problem is mom wants them in proper chronological order.. In other words, all of 2011 in proper order Jan to Dec, and 2012 after that, and 2013 after that.

1-06-2011
2-29-2012
3-09-2013
5-28-2014
Can anyone tell me how to do that? Ive tried just about every sorting option I can find in windows 7.
I suggested to her that she use YEAR master folders, then put the months inside as sub folders.

Thanks.

Hi . . . I am experiencing a problem with my A (Floppy) drive.

Hi . . . I am experiencing a problem with my A (Floppy) drive.
I recently had to format my hard drive due to a glitche with windows ME and the printer I installed. Since formatting my computer I can not get my floppy drive to work. I can see that my computer acknowledges there is an A drive, but it is not being read correctly.

Here are the error messages I am getting.

When I insert a new already formatted floppy this occurs:

Error msg: Disk in drive A not formatted, do you want to format it now? (I click yes to quick format)

Next error msg: You can not do a quick format because the disk is not formatted, it's capacity does not match or there is no disk in the drive.
(I click OK to do a full format)

Next error msg: Windows could not format the disk. Either the selected capacity is not valid or the disk is dmgd. and may need to be replaced.

If I insert a floppy that I had previously stored resume's etc. on I get this error msg.

The folder "A\*.*" is not accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected by a password or file name contains a/ or \.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem. I am desperate at this point, as I am in the process or starting an ebay store and my new Mavica Camera uses floppy disks and I can not put any new items on ebay until I can resolve this problem.

My wife's Compaq Presario would not boot this AM. When I booted I received the option of letting Windows try to fix the problem. Let that run and the report said it did find any hardware issues but also said it could not automatically fix problem.

Went to the built in recovery via F11, ran the diagnostics which started chkdsk. Getting hundreds of 'Windows replaced bad cluster in file nnnnnnn' messages. It is running a very long time as a result. Is Windows actually fixing these files? Or is the hard drive really gone and it is just pretending to do something?

Also, did an image backup yesterday using Acronis TrueImage. Is it likely this image is bad?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:[SOLVED] chkdsk returning many 'windows replaced bad cluster..' msgs

It is likely that the hard drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
I suspect that the image backup has some errors but it is impossible at this point to tell how serious they may be.

First the background: We are gradually deploying Office 2007, but not everyone in the agency has it. I have both 2003 and 2007 installed on my system, but I do my work in 2003, and none of our databases have actually been converted to 2007 format (at least, none that I work with). There are occasionally people who use 2007 when viewing databases, but I don't know if any of the people who are working in this particular database are using 2007. The problem is reproducible in 2003 and so I've been trying to fix it here. The query behind the problem report used to work. It has been a problem for several months (it is run monthly, and every month for the past five they've had problems with it) and I've finally gotten to the root of the actual issue.

The purpose of the report is to generate invoice for outstanding loans. The DateNextPayment is a calculated field based on the payment plan for the loan. It is calculated using a function in the query named qryGetSitesDDInvoices1. This is the function that is called (I did not write this function, I'm supporting this db long after the original writer has left):
Code:
Function DateNextPayment(PaymentSchedule As String, DateFirstPayment As Date, Balance As Currency)

On Error GoTo Handle_err

Dim Date1 As Date
Dim Date2 As Date
Dim Date3 As Date
Dim NextQtrDate As Date

Hey guys,
I have a question about coding and setting an excel file to send emails. I am using an excel file to track maintenance work orders and I would like to get an email each day for each work order that is requested to be finished on that days date. I have attached the excel file I am using, and the column that is important is C, "Date Needed" - If that date is today's date, the cell turns red and I would also like to get email notification about it. A separate email for each cell that matches today's date.

Also, if possible, I would like for it to look at all the sheets, not just the current month's sheet. For example, if a work order was filed in July but wasn't needed until September, I would still like to get the email reminding me that it needs to be finished on xx date in September.

I have attached the excel file I want to use.

I have searched all over this forum and others and have found many posts similar to this, but I am not a great manipulator of code, so I cannot get any of the other solutions to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I tried "Enable_Auto_Arrange_in_File_Explorer.bat" and "Reset_Folder_View_Settings_of_All_Folders_to_Default.bat" courtesy of Brink to no avail.

Is there a way to get file explorer back to default sort (by name-ascending) for all disks, folders and sub-folders at once?

Hello there & Happy New Year.

I have encountered this particular inconvenience on the 2nd day of 2012 while i was transfering photos and files into my PC with Win7.

In my Win7 PC, all files/folders created or modified within Dec'2011 and earlier are now all grouped under as "A Long Time Ago". This happens when I changed the folder to be "Group by Date" or "Group by Date Modified" with a combo of "Sort by type". I tried sorting in different ways of view to see if I can get it back to what it should be. Then i realised even folder newly created on 25 Dec 2011 is also grouped as "A Long Time Ago" too. I am not sure if this is an intended feature.

The only helpful part is that i will still see the newer files in chronological order if I sort by date modified on top of group by date modified.

I have been using this setting for folder view even for Win XP. As for Win XP, i will get "Yesterday", "Last Week", "Last Month", "Last Year", "Two Years Ago" and ultimately the whole chunk of much older files under "A Long Time Ago". Such perfect chronological order.

I tried to google for a while and not much of returns to this issue I am having. Perhaps majority of people does not group their files/folders in such way. But for me, I like the way how it was displayed that I know i have edited/created/moved whichever files/folders last year, the previous month or ... Read more

Recurring pop-up at start-up of Outlook (not Express) "A program is trying to access email address you have stored in outlook. do you want to allow this?"

This pop-up (and its 50+ brothers) comes up at start-up, and occurs at least a few other times during the day. This is the same Outlook program that I have been using for years without problems, but this began after reformatting of this machine, a Dell Inspirion 1520.

I have discovered some disconcerting behavior in how excel 2010 sorts. I have information in a worksheet that gets added to everyday. Once a week that information gets copied in bulk and pasted into a new sheet in the workbook to get sorted. On a straight copy paste operation some of the information that is in columns bfore the sort column are changed from their original values. When I copy then paste special values and formatiing this does not occur.
Has anyone else observed this behavior and if so does anyone know a better fix?

Tried to replicate this in my Excel 2010 without success. Copied cells Sheet1/A1:A12 to Sheet2/C1:C12 with data in preceding columns A & B. On selecting 'Sort' for C1:C12 I get a window informing me there is data next to my selection and since it is not selected will not be sorted. There are then two options: Expand selection or Continue with current selection. Selecting second option sorts data normally.

Hi There

I can't seem to get this line of macro to work properly

If ActiveCell<=Range("C4") then......(Some lines get deleted)

Both the active cell and Range("C4") have dates in them. This line of code does not work properly. It does't matter if the date in the Active Cell is greater than the date in Range("C4"), the macro still executes the next lines of code and still deletes lines that it should not delete.

What am I doing wrong??

Mario

Answer:Solved: Date: VBA - One date less than another date

This would happen if either or both of the cells being evaluated are not dates or if the ActiveCell is blank. Try this test to see if this is the case; in either case you should use the DateValue function when evaluating ActiveCell vs C4. This is because the VBA interpretation of a date is much more forgiving than the Excel interpretation. VBA will interpret anything that looks like a date as a date e.g. " 12/21/2013" (with the leading spaces) will be interpreted by Excel as text whilst VBA will recognise it as a date.

Code:
Sub test()
If IsDate(ActiveCell) = False Then
MsgBox (ActiveCell.Address & " is not a Date")
ElseIf IsDate(Range("C4")) = False Then
MsgBox ("Cell C4 is not a Date")
Else
If DateValue(ActiveCell) <= DateValue(Range("C4")) Then [B] [COLOR=red]'use this in your macro[/COLOR][/B]
MsgBox ("OK")
End If
End If
End Sub

Hi florida2001. When you set up your table did you create a field for each item?. In other words do you have a field for 1st Name & a new field for Last name & a new field for each of the others.
If you do have separate field for each then for your (9) answer Select the Last name field & click the Filter icon from the Home view & sort descending order order. This should give you the name in the first record closest to Z.
For (11) answer Select the Age column & then in the Home view Select the Binocular icon, it will ask you to find what, so type in 32.
Hope this helps. I also use Access 2013.

I hope this is not what they are planning on selling us. Some navigational issues, over all it's nice. I was hoping it would not be a dressed up and revamped version of XP. I'm not quite sure it's not yet. I will get deep into the system in the next few day. I want to hear others thoughts please.

Answer:Solved: I sort of like it

I forgot I got the 64 edition. I wanted to take advantage of my CPU. I never had XP 64. So I thought it's only an eval, get the 64 system. I like the new Explorer, I am actually impressed so far with it.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate.

In Windows Explorer, I have set to sort files by name in ascending order and to group by nothing. The files are in an approximate order by name; but, many files are out of order and only near where they should be. In the attached screen shot, only the right-hand column is relevant to the question. Please note that "201306events" comes before files with lower names such as "20130516beachparty".

How do I fix this?

My business partner sent me some files over email but I can't read them ... they're all .wps or something and I was wondering if there's any way I can convert them so they'll open with Microsoft Word.

Answer:Solved: HELP!!!! sort of a rush on this

The file was created with Microsoft Works.
There are converters out there, but I have never used them so I can't recommend one. Do a google search for .wps to .doc and you should be able to find one easily.

The quickest way to read that file, if you have Adobe installed, would be to right click on it, choose print and print it to a PDF. Then view the PDF.

My HP 845C died last night after many years service, and I need to buy a new printer.

Not sure of the difference between laser and deskjet printers so thought I would ask the question here.
Officeworks has the HP Officejet pro K5300 advertised at $87.

i use the printer for home use and rarely print any photographs.

I need a printer that has double sided Printing (duplex i think they call it) capabilities.

Given that I was satisfied with the 845C would the K5300 be comparable?
Thanks

I was given an Excel doc where the creator color coded changes in data that I need to fix.
There are about 300 rows and the data I need to update is scattered all over.

Is there anyway to sort by color?

That would save me a LOT of time!

Thanks for any and all help.

Hello,

I'm sure I'm missing something simple.
I have plugged in two different SATA drives (not at the same time) in my system.
Just extra HDDs.
They show in the Bios, the F12 boot list, & Device Manager.
I can not get them to show up & display a drive letter in My Computer so I can actually access?
Thoughts, advice?

fmg

Answer:[SOLVED] Can't see drive, well sort of

Start menu>Run>compmgmt.msc

Under Storage>Disk Management

Find and format the hard drive.

Hello everyone

I have recently installed Office 2007, I have an Access file that was made in Office Access 2003, I can open it fine but I went to sort one of the columns in alphabetical order, the Sort options are greyed out (see attached picture)

I was able to do this before in 2003, I have searched the help file and searched on here, the only other post suggested someone send the file and now its closed, and so far in my search of the net none have solutions to it or if they found one there is no detail on what they did.

Cheers

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Inspiron 6000, and I'm having trouble sorting my program folders and programs under the All Programs menu. I know that you can right-click in an open area under All Programs and a menu box will (should) appear and allow you to sort the program folders/programs by a variety of different criteria.

When I right-click under All Programs, I can briefly see a menu box flash on the screen, and then immediately disappear - but obviously faster than I can react and select the option to resort the content alphabetically. Is there another strategy to get to these program folders/programs, where I can exercise the option to sort them, other than the one I've tried - which is not working for me. Alternately, a solution to get the menu window to stay open, will also be the fix that gets me to my ultimate objective. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Another Way to Sort All Programs

You must right click on one of the Programs and not in a empty area. Try it.

hi there i made this computer my self i made it to play World Of Warcraft when i go onto "can you run it" i am over the recommended but when i play the game i lag a lot and i am playing on the lowest settings with about 11MB of addons running still even with this spec
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 770
RAM: 12GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 GAMING (MS-7816)
PSU: Corsair CX750 ATX
i have enabled OC Genie in the bios settings that is ment to overlock the comp to its safest possible and i use MSI gaming app and Razor Cortex

i have attached Speccy and CPU-Z i dont know what else to add

Answer:Solved: Can you run it says yes but computer says no (sort of :P)

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Your rig should run WoW on better setting than that, I played it about 6-8 months ago on a similar system (older i5 CPU, GTX570 and 8GB RAM) and could run it on high - ultra most of the time.

FYI - I have flagged your post to the moderators to remove the Speccy file. It was good to list it for information about your system, however it also contains your Windows produce key which you really don't want to be advertising online If you want to edit the file to remove the key and re-upload it fine, however a better option is to publish the report online through Speccy, this will remove that sort of info.

1.In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
2.In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
3.Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

The main potential limitation could be your PSU. The CX series are not good quality and only really any use for basic build using integrated graphics cards, even Corsair say this about them on their websites. You really do need a good quality unit to power a gaming rig. Having said that, the voltages look OK currently in Speccy but could do with a look at them under load.

Do you play any other games?
If yes, do you have similar problems?

Your temperatures look ok for idle temps, but again would be useful to see what its doing under load.

Hi today i tried uninstalling bearshare as it was annoying me and i didn't want it on my comp in the first place (long story) anyways when i go to uninstall it using add/remove, it looks like its doing something, like it shows the uninstallation bar but whe i cheack if the file is there it is and i am able to actually run the program. All it derltes is the install.log file and some other folders. I don't know what is up but it is starting to make me angry

Answer:Solved: sort of a problem.....

If you're unable to get BearShare to uninstall in the Add/Remove Programs list, do the following:

1. Open the C:\PROGRAM FILES folder and delete the entire BearShare folder.

2. Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. When the registry editor opens, click the + in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software

In the "Software" menu of both, scroll down until you find a folder for BearShare. Right-click directly on the BearShare folder, then click Delete - Yes. Close the registry editor.

3. Go here so you can install EasyCleaner 2.0.6.380. Start the program, click the "Registry" button, click "Find", allow the scan to finish, click "Select All - Delete All", wait for the entries to be deleted, then click "Close". Click the "Unnecessary" button, place a checkmark in the top 3 squares, click "Find", allow the scan to finish, click "Select All - Delete All", wait for the entries to be deleted, then click "Close". Close the program.

4. Reboot.

The above steps should clean out 99.9% of BearShare from your computer.

I was helping someone to choose a new ISP, and I found provide.net. I downloaded their software so I could put it on a floppy, but I accidentally ran it on my own computer. It installed it in my Dialup Connections, but I was able to remove it from there. Then I realized that it had changed my home page. When I went to change it back, the box would not allow me to type in it. I already scanned for spyware/hijackers and tried changing the hompage via a javascript, which did not work and I don't think the provide.net software purposefully stole my homepage.

Hi,

I see to have a host of tracking software and bugs on my computer, it's driving me crazy.
I think all of my browers have been hijacked, Opera, Mozilla and IE. I used to be able to just type the name of a url and hit enter, when i do that now it takes me to the same default search engine, some company i never heard of. Before I ran some spyware programs my computer was crashing all the time. Now, its just my browser that seems to be crashing. I used to also get some sort of runtime c+++ error every time I tried to open anything on my computer. The only files that were accesable were theones on my desktop. After I ran avast, that problem seems to have stopped. I have lost sound on most of my programs, video functionality is also inconsistent. Whenever I open a browser, I get a message that tells me there has been a shockwave problem and things willnot run properly. The message appears a few more times than my browser crashes. Plus on top of all this, I have a cable connection and my system runs at snales pace both when im on the internet and from a wndows standpoint.

I've downloaded hijack this and dont really understand what to make of this log. Any help would be very much appreciated. i think you guys/gals ROCK.

I built a PC for my sister several months ago, and it was running fine until last weekend. They had a power outage (the PC was on a surge protector however, and it was a full outage, not just a surge). Now, the computer will boot, but won't get past simply listing the processor and that Dual-Memory mode is active. It doesn't even get to the point that'd normally be on the same screen where it lists all SATA devices, etc. I can't access the BIOS or boot menu, but keyboard support is active, at least for a second. Do you think the problem is the BIOS itself or the entire motherboard? The PC is running WIn 7, which doesn't really seem relevant, since it can't even get to the point that it would try to read the hard drives. The motherboard is an AS Rock K10N78M. The RAM, HD's, and graphics card all appear to be fine. I can understand some function of the mobo possibly having been fried, but if it's just the BIOS, I don't really understand how a power outage would have affected it.

Answer:Solved: PC Won't Boot (Sort Of)

Well, I managed to reset the BIOS using the jumper on the mobo, but at first it basically seemed to have the same problem with it not doing anything (only now with the original AS Rock boot-up image stuck there instead) but after about 1/2 an hour, the damn thing just seemed to fix itself and is back to running normally. I'd still sure like to know why it would take so long to boot after a power outage and then just go back to being normal.

Hi all

First I would like to thank everyone for trying to find the solution to the Display problem that I was having. It was appreciated. I sure did learn a lot trying to fix it.

I had the problem of losing my settings in Display and not being able to get to the device manager to fix the problem. I tried for a month and finally got too frustrated with the problem and did a reformat. I was very nervous doing this but all turned out just fine. Sure is nice to be back to normal again.

I would like to remind everyone to make sure that they have the code that is asked for from Microsoft when you go to reinstall Windows. I had put mine away (too well as it turns out) and of course couldn't find it right away when needed. Now it is written down in three different place.

Keep up the good work guys. Don't know what we would do without your help.

Running an HP Pavilion z4230 laptop with MS XP Home, IE6. Just installed two 512 meg PC4200 chips a few weeks ago and things have been running ok, except for two issues that have been popping up. This first problem also happened before putting the new memory in when it had

1. (Not verbatim)... "Virtual Memory was low and Microsoft is making the necessary adjustments...", etc. That happened last Sun and Monday night a few days after putting the new memory in.

2. Just tonight we got this: "Qx771b3670 reference memory at Ox73bd01d4. The memory could not be read at IExplore.exe."

In the past 24 hours I've run multiple CCleaner scans, including the Registry scan, a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware full scan, and a full AVG scan. Nothing nasty was found other than a tracking cookie.

Just ran Belarc Advisor and both of the new chips are read/ID'd, for what it's worth.

Any idea what's going on here, and what should I do next?

As info, for the most part, only Outlook 2003 and IE6 have been run, with 'Facebook' being the primary web site being perused.

Thanks!

It probably is the result of some incorrect house cleaning, but I have a number of irksome issues with Win XP. My PC has many older programs that I have used and now refer to them on my retirement consulting. So a clean re-install is quite an iffy proposition. A quick list of the issues:
- Any video is now a start stop affair, with the audio being less disrupted than the video, which is a series of still frames, each about half a second long.
- The quick launch tool bar does not load except manually. I have tried several suggested solutions but it doesn't load at start up. When loaded manually, it displays only six icons, and that cannot be changed, with or without a check next to the Quick Launch menu item.
- When selecting an item from a list, say Windows explorer or an e mail list, many times the first item selected with a right click cannot be deselected, so all following selections select a block. Could not find a fix for this.
- When browsing with Firefox 21.0 sometimes the web page resets without any user input - as if the tab was closed.
- Sometimes when trying to delete a file from a folder, it doesn't and it can be done only after a restart.
-etc.
I apologize for the lenght of this post, but I have tired for weeks to find the source of all these problems to no avail.

Help with the first two or any other would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Answer:[SOLVED] Win XP is working - sort off - bt many hickups. The first two are:

When you delete a file from a folder, if it looks like it is still there, right click a blank space inside the folder and choose Refresh. This should show the file as being deleted now.
As for your other problems, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing system files.
Also, go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /F and press enter. In the Command Prompt type a Y for Yes and restart the computer. Check Disk will run at next bootup and fix any file errors.
If that doesn't solve all of the problems then go to Start/Run and type control userpasswords and press enter. Create a new user with admin rights, log out of the user profile you are in and log in as the new user. If that solves the problem then move your files to the new profile and use that from now on.
