Web-Page "Time Warp" -stuck in the past!

Question: Web-Page "Time Warp" -stuck in the past!

No doubt I am doing somthing really stupid, but will someone explain this to me?

When I surf the web, I bring up OLD web pages. That is, when I click on a site on Jan 13, I will get the Web-Page from Jan 9. I am NOT using a book-mark or any secondary method to access, I just type in the URL at the top. I get an old version, even though I KNOW the site has been updated. If I access the same page on another computer, I will get the Web-Page from Jan 13 with recent info -- but my own computer gives the Web-Page from Jan 9 with old data.

What am I doing wrong? What things should I check?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Web-Page "Time Warp" -stuck in the past!

Assuming you're using Internet Explorer, in IE go to Tools>Internet Options>General tab and click on the Delete Files button. That will get rid of the old versions of the pages that IE has cached.

Then click the Settings button. Check either "Automatically" or "Every time you start Internet Explorer" (Automatically is the default). Then, if you have broadband, set the cache size to something a lot smaller than the default. I set it to 10 megs. A large cache can be helpful on a slow connection but with broadband, it can take longer for IE to search a large cache than it takes to get a completely fresh download of the page.

When done, click OK and OK again. Try a few pages and see if that fixed things.

Hey Everyone,

I was trying to do a clean install on a Dell Inspiron 545MT (with a samsung hd642jj drive) and initially formatted the system partition (NOT the recovery partition) and then tried to do a fresh install.

Now, everything goes smoothly, all files are copied properly and everything.

After all the setup goes correctly, you should technically see image 17 (please ref to link):
Windows 7 Install Guide Page 4

The inspiron does all the installation steps perfectly fine up until image 16, and after it says "Starting Windows" the screen goes blank and the computer just ... sort of ... stays idle and nothing goes beyond that!

I've done a hardware diagnostics test and the hard drive passed all the tests, and I've tried installation with 2 different installation discs, but to no avail.

The only solution I thought of was to purchase another hard drive (and sorry, is that Samsung a SATA II or a SATA I? I don't know!) and then try installing it there.

I know the Windows files are installed properly (checked with Ubuntu), but for some reason, Windows 7 will just not boot!

PLEASE help me with alternative solutions!

Thank you so much!

PS I know some posts have complained about USB devices and video cards,
for reference, the system has a ATI Radeon HD 4350, and the only USB devices that are on the computer are the keyboard and mouse.

I'm using Windows 7 on a Dell machine. When I installed 7 a few months back, I didn't set up a system password (I don't think) because I'm the only person on this machine and I didn't want to log-in each time when starting up. Normally when I start or restart the computer I go straight into Windows and into my account.

While playing chess today, my monitor froze. I turned off the monitor and restarted the machine and the monitor seemed fine during start-up. But then I got a system log-in screen and an option to log in as "other user" and that's the only log-in option was available. (I'm not sure why all of a sudden I have to log in.)

So when I hit "other user" and then try to log in with what I think is my username and a likely password, the system says no go.

Why am I getting to a log-in screen now all of a sudden? And how do I get in to the system if it's saying my username and password are wrong?

Update: OK, after restarting several times, all of a sudden I see the welcome screen and then my desktop -- I'm in like normal. But my desktop picture is now back to a default Windows one and the task bar, which used to be a dark blue, is now a light gray. My theme had gone to "basic." Any guesses as to what all happened to my system?

Answer:Can't get past "other user" on log-in page

Hello Bilco, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since you are now logged in, see if you may be able to do the tutorial to hopefully fix this "Other User" log on screen issue. Logon Screen - Fix Showing Only "Other User" and Last Logged On User
If not, then you might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened may help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Monday morning- Screen pops up saying my laptop wasn't shut down right. That it had to run a test to shut it down normal- Test took about 3hrs to complete.
After test I could get on like normal then once I shut it it shut down and didn't get back on till later that night only to find I CAN"T get past the Black screen of death- the black screen with the "_" in top left corner. I've restarted it a lot to see if it would just turn on like normal with no luck. I CAN"T press F8 without having it beep at me I can only get into F2 and F12 and that is it. Hi Emilie2011,
Welcome to the Community, it could be an issue with the harddrive. I suggest you can start by running the Hardware diagnostics.
To run diagnostics press and hold down the "Fn" key (on the lower left hand bottom of the keyboard) and turn on the system,it should ideally bring up screen showing Pre-Boot System Assessment.
Another way to run the diagnostics go to F12 screen, scroll down using the "up" and "down" arrow key, choose diagnostics and press Enter.
If the diagnostics shows any error code/message please post it back.
Since your system is getting stuck on black screen with blinking cursor, you can also try to release flea power.
To release flea power disconnect the charger and remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, reconnect the battery and charger.Turn on the system and see if it boots to Windows.
Hope this helps,
Thank You
Roshan.

My Windows 7 is not able to boot up. Whenever I switch on my up laptop Windows pops up with the option to open in normal mode or Windows recovery mode.. But non of the option works. After trying all the options it again comes back on the same page.. So I tried reinstalling my os with bootable USB but to add more to my annoyance the Windows starts installing but thin again takes me to the blue screen showing message "installing" and stuck on that page itself. I tried it several time but ended up with the same. To confirm about that my hard drive is not crashed, I booted my pc with live USB Linux os and it worked well. I can access all my files saved in my hard drive.
I even took it for the repair but they say that my hard disk is crashed and I need to repair that. But had this been the case how-come i'm able to access all my files.??
Please do help me with it. It feels very helpless.. And I really wanna repair it myself that would really build up my confidence as i'm an engineering student in comp science only.
Thanks in advance... plzzz help.. I'll b waiting for the reply with keeping my hopes all high..

Hi all,

Sorry to repeat a question I see a lot of instances of, but none of those seem to be addressing my problem correctly.

I have not done anything new to my computer in recent days, so this problem has caught me off guard (I see most instances of this problem come after upgrading to Windows 7, I have had Win 7 installed for a while now).

Here is a summary of my problem:
1) My computer recently got stuck on the "Starting Windows Screen." So I manually held the power button to reboot.
2) On reboot, it said there was a need to run a startup repair, which I did. Everything checked fine, except for the last one which said "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted," which it claimed to have successfully fixed.
3) After rebooting from repair, the system gets stuck on "Starting Windows Screen" for a good 10-15 minutes, after which it runs a registry check. After it completes that I get hopeful -- but the screen then gets stuck on an all black screen with just the mouse cursor and nothing more.
4) Additional note: Attempting to start the computer on "safe mode" leads safe mode startup to become stalled on "DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS"
5) The lastest attempt to repair yielded this message: "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

Answer:Stuck on "Starting Windows", Repair Shows "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted"

Hi Stan, Hopefully I can help you out....or at least lead you in the right direction. From my experience, the symptoms you are suggesting sound like perhaps a dying Hard drive.

1. Do you have the windows 7 boot disks that came with your computer or when you bought the Operating System? If so, you could try and insert one of those and boot from it, and attempt to repair the installation. (this won't affect your data, only the windows system files).

2. If that doesn't fix it, you could try a fresh reinstall of windows 7, and see if that works.

3. If neither of those work, its likely that because of the fact that when windows is repairing itself, it is generally putting copies of its system files in the same physical location on your disk. Because your disk is obviously not completely dead, ie....its still loading to the windows 7 startup screen, its just copying files to the bad sectors on your hard drive and gets stuck when loading. This is especially my guess because you said Safe mode is having same problems, even after attempting to repair. In the past, I've tried and salvage a disk by reformatting it and only leaving on partitions which do not contain the bad clusters. This takes some time, and some guess work.....and really this is only a "bandaid" fix because once the disk has bad clusters, its only a matter of time before these things give out. You wouldn't want to trust your important data on it anyways....

I hope this leads you in ... Read more

What should i do?

Hi, I am having a problem with my newer computer, I just got this rig a few months ago and never had a problem until last Thursday. It Blue Screened on me while I was installing ARC GIS 10.1. From then on it randomly crashes. (I have previously installed ARC GIS 10 and never had a problem.)

I keep things updated (windows and drivers) and I do think windows forced through an update earlier that day. I un installed ARC GIS 10.1 and the windows update, didn't make any difference. I have also ran the Windows Mem test and Auslogic BoostSpeed/ Registry repair. I keep getting "Bad Pool Header" and "Page In Nonpage Area" and I can't seem to find something that triggers it. So far it hasn't crashed in Safe Mode without network access. I tried it once with access and it crashed. Currently have windows checking the drives for errors ( I have 4).

I think I attached the proper dump files. This is my work computer so this is kind of causing a big problem. Thanks in advanced for the help!!

Hi.

I accidentally pulled the plug out of my computer when it was in the middle of shutting down. Now that I've tried to reboot it, I get a screen saying:

Safe Mode With Networking
Safe Mode With Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

Whenever I click on any of the options above, I always ends up back at the same screen, suggest the above options again. I've tried rebooting I again a few times but nothing works?

Any ideas?
Thanks.

I've searched around the forums and all I can seem to find are people with one or two dead pixels (the absolute max I saw was 8). On the left side of my monitor, I have an extremely large amount of dead pixels. It's about the size of two quarters. It started out small (as a single pixel - then a single line - then a large blob). I've tried just about everything to get rid of it. I've tried massaging it out, using websites/software like www.jscreenfix.com, to no avail. I really don't have the money for a new monitor. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am having the hijacked home page problem that others are having. However, my hijacking started with the "coolwwwsearch" and then went to a "youfindall.net" page that, as described before, cannot and will not be changed to my regular homepage, "youfindall.net" is the page I'm currently stuck on. Note: I can't take any screen shots because my problematic laptop won't even start up fully.

So as a bit of background, my 6-year-old Toshiba A505-S6005 laptop battery has been horrible for ages (as in my laptop MUST be plugged in at all times or else it will immediately spontaneously turn off without a proper shut-down. It also spontaneously turns off it it overheats or starts working too hard or something), so I don't use it very much - but it's where I keep all my music and movies, and I've been gradually transferring these files to other devices, which is why I still use it occasionally...

Anyway, 2 nights ago, I downloaded and installed updates, and after taking a while to install updates, it stayed on the "shutting down..." screen for a long time... And when I woke up the next morning, it was STILL on the "shutting down" screen - and it had been 8 hours by that point (I was actually very surprised that it hadn't spontaneously turned off overnight). So I did a force-turn-off because I thought it would start up ok.

Today, I turned on the computer figuring it would boot up ok. So we get to the start-up screen - it even spends a mere split second on the usual improper-shut-down-how-would-you-like-to-start-up screen (it usually spends 30 seconds on that screen) and it goes through "configuring updates," and this took a while, and then it went back to the "shutting down..." screen. And it was stuck there for about 20 minutes be... Read more

I am operating with Internet Explorer and Windows Xp. For years, I have been able to load an internet webpage and save it by selecting "File" then "Save As", which would open a pop up window confirming "Save as type: Web Page, complete *.htm;*.html). I would click to save and it would be saved to my directory by way of two things, the actual html file and then a folder for all the images of that page, as seen below:

I use these files so that I can work offline on my laptop. When I click the html page in that directory, the page will load including all the saved images on that web page as if I was online.

However, lately I am unable to save pages and only get an error when trying to. Take, for example, the page found at this link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320174859960

I have ventured to the above link and clicked "File", then "Save as", and get this error:

I have tried endlessly to figure out how else to save this page so as to work on it off-line (including the images) but cannot. Has anybody else ran into this problem or know a work around or fix to this newly saddled dilema I have?

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Can you scan a link to see if the page it directs to has any virus's or threats? Thanks.

Answer:Is there a way to "scan" a link to a website or page to see if it is a "threat"?

There are some tools you can use.

First is WOT if you don't use it. It gives you a decent indication on whether a site is safe. Its an addon for your browser. Just download for whichever one you use: https://www.mywot.com/en/download Green circle means good, Red means you probably shouldn't go onto the site. Yellow...proceed with caution

Another thing you can do is go here: https://www.virustotal.com/
-Select URL and paste the site address on there. It'll list a number scanners and if they come up clean.

Is the time to "Upgrade from vista to 7 supposed to be wayyy longer then it would to do jsut a clean install? (For example, hanging at 18% for a while while installing during upgrade)

(posting this since i cant get any replies to a previous topic)

Answer:Install time difference between "Upgrade" and "Custom"

The upgrade process will always be longer, and sometimes considerably. The upgrade process has to move/relocate previous files and keep certain registry entries based on software already installed. Did the upgrade eventually complete? (it's a silly question but you could be dual booting). If not then it could be a bad burn and your systems is taking it's time trying to read the install files from the DVD.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hi everyone.
All my experience is with XP, but my partners windows 7 laptop has this problem and I am stuck. it is a Dell laptop latitude E4300 about 4G ram, no external devices fitted.

Laptop starts to boot, I log in, "welcome" screen comes up but never finishes processing. Harddrive light keeps on pumping endlessly.
I tried to boot in "safe mode" and it stops at exactly the same spot.
I tried to run ?System restore?: I can pick a restore point OK, and it loads it but then gets stuck on ?finishing restore? (similar to the ?welcome screen? thing - it just keeps on processing )
?Start up repair? both from harddrive or dvd both say it cant find anything wrong.
Ran the command prompt. ?Sfc /scannow? it runs ?beginning verification phase of system scan? ? it gets to ?Verification 100%? then displays the line : ?windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation?
Any ideas of where I can go from here? all Ideas welcomed greatfully - she might expire without her laptop

Answer:stuck on "welcome" screen cant get "sfc /scannow" to work

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Have a look at this Microsoft article: How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

When the system file checker runs it creates a log file, which should help you pinpoint which file couldn't be repaired.

However, if you can't get into Windows you might want to check this tutorial: Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery

Did your partner create a set of Dell recovery discs or does she have a Windows 7 DVD?

If all else fails, you may have to re-install Windows.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

I am running Windows 8 64 bit

Apparently I scanned my system using full system scan (AVAST) and left my computer on thinking it would take for many hours. When I came back, my computer automatically shutdown because it was left standby for about 4 hours. I don't know if the scan was finished. When I try to boot, the screen gets stuck on "please wait" screen or "configuring windows. Do not turn off your computer".

I already tried going to System Recovery Options screen, then going to Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, but I tried everything there and still the issue persists even when I tried to boot in safe mode. I tried going to command prompt, and type sfc/ scannow but it says it can't scan right now. I also tried chkdsk / R but it says the same. I don't know how to run cmd as administrator from the System Recovery Options.

So now I tried to use system restore but I am stuck to the windows logo for about 1 and half hour. I don't know if I should wait for this or it is already stuck. In other forums I read, they used system restore with only the "C:" disk group connected. Should I also do this?

I am thinking to remove AVAST or somehow disable it.

Please help me.

This PC is an HP Desktop model Pavilion 6520f with an AMD Athlon II x4 635 2.90 Ghz processor and 12 MB of memory. The PC is from about 2010 but the 1 T hardrive, memory ,added video card (NVIDIA) and power supply were upgraded about a year and a half ago before the installation of Windows 10. I performed a clean install of Windows 7 on the newer harddrive last summer and then upgraded to Windows 10 Home edition.

A few days ago I started experiencing random BSOD errors. This was a few days after the most recent Windows 10 system update.

I initially suspected that there was a simple system volume mismatch after the update so I scheduled a CHKDSK scan on the C: drive. It froze at 10% then crashed. I tried again with the same result. At this point the computer was booting normally and could be used for a while before any freezing or crashing.

I decided to run SFC. It froze at 50% then the computer crashed. I tried this a few times as well. Always stopped at 50% and then another Blue Screen crash.

Following some online advice, I tried to run DISM command (DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restore

It got to 29.2%, froze , then crashed. Now when I try to boot I only get the "preparing automatic repair" and then the keyboard select screen and I am stuck.

The keyboard and mouse inputs do not work, so there is no where to go. I tried switching to a wired keyboard and mouse but no luck.

Please help. I am at a loss as to where to go from here.

Answer:'Page Fault in nonpaged Area" AND "Driver Irql not less or equal"

Maybe faulty memory

Hi,

The culprit is faulty memory. You can run memtest to stress the ram. If memtest reports the ram is faulty, ram is bad. However Memtest is not a perfect tool to test the memory as some faulty ram can pass memtest.

Suggestion
1. Check the temperature of the CPU and make sure that it is not overheat (ie temperature < 60C)
Make sure that the CPU fan works properly
2. Reseat the memory stick to another memory slot. Reseat video card as well.
3. Downclock the ram. Check to default setting if you video card is overclocked.
4. Clean the dust inside the computer case
5. Make sure that the ram is compatible to the motherboard
6. Check the bios setting about memory timing and make sure that it is on
For example : DIMM1 and DIMM2 do not have the same timing.
DIMM1: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.0-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)
DIMM2: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM3: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz)
7. Make sure that your PSU have adequate power to drive all the hardware including USB devices
8. Run chkdsk /r at command prompt
9. Run 3DMark 2005 to test your video card
10. Upgrade BIOS

If it still crashes, diagnostic which memory stick is faulty
Take out one memory stick. If windows does not crash, the removed memory stick is faulty.
If you have only one memory stick, replace the ram

Afternoon, I'm a bit boggled by this issue we are having on a PC at our office. It seems that the PC normally will boot up and the memory usage will be low 2 GB / 16 GB until 10-12 minutes go by then it shoots up 11 GB / 16 GB. It's really odd and I can't explain it, since no applications are started.

I took it upon myself and downloaded RamMap. Using RamMap I was able to determine that the memory is caused by "mapped files" under "file summary" I can see the two large files which are to blame. But I'm not able delete these currently until tomorrow to confirm the user doesn't need them.

What I'm looking for is an answer as to why these files seem to be singled out? Thanks in advance. I've included a screenshot to the RamMap findings and my understanding with how memory is handled is limited.

EDIT - I can see now only 1 large file is being selected for "mapped file".

Answer:Windows 7 Large files stuck in "mapped files" / "stand-by"

Whenever I open up "My Computer", I get stuck on a screen that has just the flashlight looking for files.

Whenever I use a drop down menu in programs such as My Documents and even things like MS Word, the comp freezes up. It's as if the directory isn't being listed cos something is stopping it from doing so.

Just an update.
My Compute eventually shows up, after about two or three minutes. It's a pain.

THe computer is brand new. Ocasionally, the left bar, with "Similiar Places" "Details and other things similiar appears, then disappears, and the comp searches again.

Attached is an example of the drives not showing up...
I was lucky the thing didn't freeze after opening the drop down..

I have Acer laptop Win7 Pro x64 SP1. When I try to shut down or restart my system it gets stuck at either "logging off" stage or sometimes it gets past that but hangs up on "shutting down". I've let them run for over an hour & nothing happens. I have to hold down the Power button to turn off machine. Upon reboot the system say there was a problem during shut down do you want
to "restart normally" "safe mode" etc.. Now when I go into safe mode I can close down no problem. I have tried "boot to last known good config" doesn't help. I don't think there was a "restore point" made to go back to. Why is this happening & how can I fix it.
Thanks!

Answer:PC gets stuck during "Logging off" & "Shutting down".

If safe mode doesn't have that problem it will most likely be a bad or incompatible third-party device driver that's causing it, since safe mode doesn't load any third-party drivers.

Typically the bad driver will be the one that was installed last, just before the problem was first noticed.

My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.

Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.

I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more

Hi,

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

Answer:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!

Many of the web pages that I open don't open correctly and give either a "Done, but with errors" message or an "Error on page" message in the lower left corner, including the MSN home page and Yahoo. Specifically, on Yahoo email, the buttons don't work because the code behind the buttons wasn't loaded. (i.e. when I double-click on the error and click Show Details, it says that the button is undefined). This happens on all the computers that I've tried around the monastery (about six of them). We are running Windows XP Home and use Internet Explorer 6 as the browser. I've tried deleting the internet temporary files and the cookies, but it didn't help. It seems to be a problem with our computers -- when I visited the public library, Yahoo worked fine on their computers.
I have submitted a troubleshooting request to Yahoo, but they were unable to help. Any suggestions, anyone? Thank you in advance!

Just wondering.....
Very frequently when I'm moving around online I will get the classic page reading "The page cannot be displayed" bla bla bla.....
Sometimes when searching for a site I know exists.
Sometimes after I have inputed some info on an online form & submit it.
Moving from one page to the next in both large & small web sites.
Not a big deal most of the time but it bugs me!
Does anybody out there have any ideas how to prevent this without lowering my protection level too far?
I'm currently using the following (w/ XP&SP2 using IE) & probably more....

Hi guys!

So i tried installing windows 7 Home Premium using an empty HDD. The old OS was Vista, and it was located in the same HDD. I managed to install Windows 7 successfully, but when booting after the install it crashed right after the "starting windows" screen. It then gives me the choise between starting the startup repair tool, or to start windows normally. When i run the startup repair tool it can not fix the problem. I've tried different HDD but the problem still persists. The fact that I haven't got a clue what to do really annoys me. In addition it isn't even my own pc. My dad's vista started failing on him. So I figured: Hey, why not install windows 7 using my old disk from a pc I don't use anymore. I appreciate all help.

Last winter I reformatted my HD and re-installed Windows 7 (64 bit). At that time I lost my Flight simulator game that I enjoyed a lot. Lately I tried to re-install my Flight Simulator game but I get the message "Error InstallShield Runtime". Is there a quick fix to this?

What is the exact game you are installing to check on its compatibility? Is this an installation from Disc or a download off the internet?

I have been using Dragon Natural Speaking 12 Premium for many months and all was going well until last week when I downloaded and installed an update. After that, whenever I open the program from the desktop icon, the "Loading" screen appears but nothing happens after that. Also, I have to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to end the program. (Right clicking on the tray icon and closing "close" does nothing. I have downloaded and used the DNS 12 uninstall "tool" several times and re-downloaded and installed the program, but the same thing happens, the program's "Loading" box appears but gets "stuck" there. I have asked the gurus at www.knowbrainer.com and on Nuance's Forums but they seem to be stumped with DNS's behavior after installing the update. Does anyone know what is happening? Thanks for any and all replies/suggestions.

Last night, I attempted to install a linux distro alongside 7, the installation failed, so I gave up and just rebooted to 7.

It got stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen, so I preformed hard shutdown and when to the "Startup Repair" utility and it attempted repairs, it then said that the repairs were unsuccessful, so I restarted and windows loaded to the desktop. Success! or so I thought...

After a while, I shut my laptop down and went to bed (as you do). When I needed to use it this morning, it wouldn't load past the "Starting Windows" screen again, so I shut it down and restarted and it went the desktop.

Answer:Occasionally wont load past "Starting Windows" screen

Hi,

Can you access the Advanced boot options?

Advanced Boot Options
Choose Last known Good Configuration

 Tip
Use the up-arrow and down-arrow keys to move the menu’s highlight to Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced), and then press Enter as the mouse won’t work at this screen.

Your computer should load successfully, and Windows 7 will discard the bad configuration and return permanently to the last known good configuration.

Are you able to restore back to a point to before you tried to install linux distro?

When I turn my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop computer on I get the black screen that asks to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration or start windows normally. I've tried each of them and it always goes to the blue screen with the following: Stop: c0000218 Registry file failure The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\System or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. I have tried using my Windows Xp disc and it won't load. I don't have a recovery disc, but I used every disc that came with the computer and each time it goes back to the blue screen. Does anyone know how or if this can be repaired. If so, please give me simple step by step instructions.
Thanks for any help I can get!

My machine was working fine. I had been on it for a couple hours just doing regular internet browsing. I tried to open a program (EverQuest 2) and it would open then immediately crash "EverQuest 2 has encountered an error". So I figured, reboot the machine. After the POST, it tells me to either launch start up repair or start normally. I chose start normally. It would go to the "starting windows" screen and the logo will not show up. it just stays there.

Powered down, and after the POST got the same options again. I picked start up repair this time. It would load the bar and show "loading windows files" or whatnot and when the bar would get completely full, it would freeze there.

My computer doesnt have a CD/DVD drive, I installed Windows 7 from USB. So I plugged the USB drive back into the computer and tried booting from that. It would go thru the "loading windows files" just fine, I can see the drive flashing as its being accessed. When the bar filled up, it would progress to "Starting Windows" screen, and stop blinking and just sit there... doing nothing. Tried using Safe Mode. Wouldn't load either.

I have not a clue what I should be looking for to even start getting it working again. The only physical change I've made to the system was plugging in another monitor to my graphic card. And even then, I've shut down and rebooted and it's been just fine.

Following Windows deciding to install its (presumably) latest updates this afternoon, I can no longer fully boot my machine. It powers up OK, the monitor has life, but the whole boot-up process sticks at the "screensaver?" page - in my case a stock Microsoft photograph looking out to sea and some large rocks from within a cave, the screen that appears before, normally, you can enter your pin to continue boot-up. In the bottom right-hand corner of this screen is what appears to be a Power Icon that I've not seen before and with a dreaded cross on it. Clicking on this does nothing. To compound the issue my DVD unit seems to no longer read discs (it opens and closes OK), I mention this in case relevant, but I am able to access the Bios options on booting.
I downloaded via another PC the Windows 10 install disc to USB from which I have attempted to boot, again without success, and have also tried various options that I have been able to access such as "Repair"as well as trying to restore the unit to the solitary restore point accessible, created around the time everything went wrong! The Restore failed too and frankly I'm out of ideas .. and frustrated to say the least!
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, believe me!

Help - Please!!! My Desktop decided to install the Windows 10 updates to my Windows 7 environment -- oh the joys! Nothing but trouble ever since. I uninstalled 10 to take me back to 7.
Upon reboot all was fine for a day. Then, black screen with a cursor. What the heck? I checked all the things I was told to check, I ran all the diagnostics. I uninstalled, reinstalled, did a system restore back to before the update.
After spending 3+ hours letting my system go thru the recommended ePSA Preboot System Assessment (All Tests Passed) - Today I have a system that I can't get to boot up because it says I have:
Status: Oxc000000f
"The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
I'm not a computer geek. I can't get thru to anyone at Dell. I've been trying to resolve this for 4 days now.
The only thing I can think that is happening is that the computer is trying to boot from an external hard drive that is in a "locked/password protected" mode on my system. I have no idea how to bypass this. I've tried unhooking the drive and rebooting and then it just goes back to black screen with a cursor.
Can anyone help me? Please?

Hello. Hope everybody is doing fine.
So, after installing another 4GB stick of RAM and my trusted SSD, it was time for a refresh on the WEI. But before I get to that, let me take you back a few days ago, when I got myself a new laptop (), a Lenovo Z710 (i3-4000M, GT 745M, 4GB DDR3L [email protected] mHZ, 1TB Seagate SSHD with a 8GB SSD for caching) and since I couldn't accept its performance, I got down to business (note to self: MUST also update my system specs ).
Step 1: I installed another 4GB of RAM DDR3 from my previous laptop (you can get it on my system specs as they are now) running at 1.5v, with no problems whatsoever. Before doing this, I had checked via the trusted HWiNFO64 that the pre-installed stick was a module of dual nominal voltage so I wouldn't fry the poor DDR3L. Ran WEI, got a 7,4 score on memory (in fact I was kinda disappointed but anyways), had no BSODs, no freezes, no nothing. But the SSHD was just low (the 8 GB of caching were literally nowhere) and that was the time I decided to go to
Step 2: and get myself a new clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, with EVERYTHING in order (I had a few troubles finding the right driver for my wireless adapter though but I managed ) and decided to rerun the assessment.
To my great surprise, the test can't get past the "Direct3D 10 Batch Assessment", gets stuck there for about 5 minutes, maybe more and then I got the dialog box below. I am able to play MMO's and MMORPG games without any... Read more

Answer:WEI can't get past running test "Direct3D 10 Batch Assessment"

Update:
Problem solved! It seems that the culprit for the "hung" of the aforementioned assessment was the latest drivers for the Intel HD 4600 and specifically, the CMAA (Conservative Morphological Anti-Aliasing) setting under the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, which was set to "Override Application Settings" option. I don't know if it would work with the latest drivers which include this setting because I installed the previous one, just to be safe.
For anyone out there facing the same problem but determined to have the latest drivers installed, I recommend picking the "Turn Off" or "Enhance Application Settings" option (whichever permits the Direct3d Batch Assessment to run) and re-rate his/her computer.
Hope that will help.

P.S.: I mark this thread as solved as for me it is. If anyone has any insight on this matter, please feel free to share. I would be glad to hear it.

Hi all, This is a great forum you have here! OK I am having a very low-tech month I think. I am trying to trouble shoot a problem with my system which had been running reasonably well until now -- I say reasonably well because lately I seem to have hit some hardware challenges. More on that later, however (if required).

In order to trouble shoot my issues, I find myself needing to reinstall Windows 7 (My boot disk which is an SSD seems to cause the system to hang when it is connected so I am trying to install a new verion of Win 7 to troubleshoot the other from). Now I have ample space on a couple of drives so that is where I targeted. Everything runs fine in the installation process, the system reboots and I am presented the screen to enter a system name. I enter a name but the "next" button is protected and not clickable . Does this mean anything to anyone?

This seems very rudimentary but frankly I can't find anything to make it go

Hello, I got a BSOD while playing a game last night. After restarting my computer and getting past the

Some computer specs:

RAM: 8 GB

Here's the BSOD info:

Thinking it was a graphics card driver issue, I rolled back but still got a similar error:

I've attached logs of the dump files. I plan on putting in an older graphics card and seeing if I can get my computer to start, but I thought I'd post here first.

Answer:BSOD during game; can't get past "starting windows" anymore

You are correct in that the dumps are blaming your NVidia gfx drivers for the crash, first step would be to uninstall/reinstall the latest drivers using DDU or driver sweeper to clear out

If it still fails try the same again using an older version, if it still fails try your other gpu

Ok well my computer when turned on gets to the screen that says

"windows closed unexpectedly"..etc and gives the options of

"safe mode"
"safe mode with netwroking"
"safe mode with command prompt"
"start windows normally"
"start windows with most recent working config" (or something similar)

Im sure most of you are familiar with this screen, when any of the options is selected
the computer begins to start up but then makes a struggling noise and returns to that screen
we can get past it.

If someone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Dell N4110
I wish I could get an error code on it, perhaps you guys can enlighten me.

So I upgraded a couple weeks back to Win10 and it's been running sleeping restarting etc. Just fine. Then at random it shut down and has been stuck while trying to boot. I can get to the "Continue/Troubleshoot/Turn off your PC screen but even when I've tried to "Reset this PC" it just hangs there, even after leaving the machine untouched for a full 24 hours...

Maybe someone can help me get an error code first so I can specify what's up. Also as mentioned I cannot boot past the troubleshoot screen.

BIG TIA folks

I have a laptop with Windows 7. I was playing games on it today and suddenly browser closed. Then everything else closed and logged out and my laptop completely shut down. When I tried to turn it on again, a blank black screen with a flashing underscore "_" comes up and none of my keys work. The F8 key does nothing. I have turned it off and on many times. Please help!

Answer:Laptop won't start up past black screen with blinking "_"

StarJune,
Welcome to TSG.
From your description of the fairly normal but unrequested shutdown, this could possibly be a windows update that failed.
What type of laptop is it? Do you have the Operating System disk? If not you can and probably should order one from the manufacturer.
Take a look at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

I would attempt a Startup Repair first, then try System Restore.

I sent an email to a few hundred people and for around 40 of them i got this "Warning: message could not send for the past 4 hours" email back. I understand that its not a Fail message and this this is one of those "there are no stupid questions" things but i would like to know:

What does this mean anyway?
Does the person receive my email if i do not get a Failure message after this?
Is there a way that i will not receive this message and only receive total failure messages?

I had the a few hundred other messages go through fine so i don't understand what causes this to happen to just a few dozen emails.

Thank you for being kind to Stupid Questions

Answer:Solved: What does "Warning: message could not send for the past 4 hours" mean anyway?

Let's say I work for a company whose email goes to abc.com; you send to me at [email protected] and get one of those messages back. The message means, in essence, that your mail got to abc.com, but some kind of problem with the system prevented the message from being sent to my actual mail server or computer. It's possible that the reason my be that I was fired and you will eventually get a "hard" failure message, but generally it means that abc will fix their system and the message will eventually get to me.

I'm sure there are some exceptions but, in general, I will get the message if you don't latter get a "hard" failure message.

Hello all,

I have a Compac desktop, it's relatively new as far as use. Recently, it's not been used because of a startup issue. It will load the first screen (The compac screen and act like it's it going to load up) but then loops back to the first screen and continue to do this over and over. My mother told me that the computer had fallen off of out computer hutch (About 2 inches off the ground) and heard an interesting noise inside. She described the sound like a CD hitting the floor, but I looked inside the desktop, and nothing seemed to be out of place.
I want to get the data files and documents, but as stated above, I cannot use the computer.
I have a Ubuntu CD already made, and have used it before.. Unfortunately, the CD drive doesn't seem to be recognizing the disc. I can see the little white blinking "-", but that is all I can get to come up before the screen goes into another loop; and the previous process.
I was hoping some one could possibly help me out in getting the computer to the point to save the data? I have the option to reformat the whole computer, but I'd rather save that for last measures if the data cannot be recovered.
Again, the computer is a compac, Windows XP OS, desktop - only about 3 years old.

Hi I was using ubuntu on my old shuttle xpc and decided it wasn't doing it for me software-wise so tried to reinstall windows xp. Everytime i tried to boot xp i would get so far and then get a message " The file dac2w2k.sys is corrupted press any key". I tricked around with different bios settings with no joy so then went to "restore fail safe bios" (something like this). Now when I turn on the machine i just get to the first screen with the intel picture and cant get any further. I've tried going into the boot screen but it just says "loading boot menu" and nothing happens. Same happens when i try to get into the bios. My knowledge of the hardware workings of a pc is little to none so i've no idea how to reset the bios, if this is in fact the problem. Could anyone advise me? I would be so grateful. Thanks

Hi there, I've been having problems with an inherited computer recently, I got it after the owner said they were experiencing problems and the repair guys estimated it would cost as much as a computer to fix so they bought a new one.

I think this was just a case of lazyness by the repair guys so I took it home and tried to start it. it wouldn't boot into windows so formated I loaded windows 7 U 66 and boom it worked.

Now I've had a few BSODS on it and updated what I could with different websites from microsoft and HP I can't figure out what is causing it

Hi -
I'm trying to install XP Pro onto a brand new SATA hard drive since my old one seems to have gone kaput after about 5 years.

I booted from CD, and went thru all the screens to the point where it was ready to start the installation. When i got to the screen to partition the "mass storage device", i got the following:

Unknown Disk
(There is no disk in this drive.)
Unknown Disk
(There is no disk in this drive.)

So i found an old post on this site (http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/823885-solved-unknown-disk-error.html) and followed the lessons learned there, and realized I had a floppy for a RAID DRIVER i had forgotten about (it came with the components I bought to build this box). So i tried the installation again, starting from a reboot, and hitting F6 at the right time. When it came time to install the 3rd party driver, i inserted the floppy as instructed, and hit Enter. The floppy light came on, but i don't believe i heard it do anything, and the screen asking me to insert the floppy quietly came back.

I tried a couple times, but still the floppy did not do its magic. I continued, and the partition screen still showed the Unknown Disk error. So as suspected, the driver did not get installed. I then rebooted, this time hitting F1 to check out the BIOS. My BIOS recognizes both my new hard drive and the floppy drive just fine, and the floppy itself can be read just fine on another PC.

Could this be a floppy controller problem? is there a simple w... Read more

Hello: I just received some windows updates as well as upgrading to Internet Explorer 7.
Note: I had to remove IE 7 the other day as I was having issues opening certain webpages.

Anyway, IE 7 seems to be navigating fine, other than the fact that when I click on my desktop icon to launch Internet Explorer it opens to a webpage that allows you to Customize Your Settings.

Although, I have www.google.com as my home page within Internet Options (General tab), Google does not open, but rather http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 opens then quickly converts to http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx which then opens the Customize Your Settings webpage.

I noticed that the default setting in Internet Options is displayed as http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 , so I tried to change that to www.google.com, but it reverts back to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 .

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ted569

Answer:Home page automatically opens to "Customize Your Settings" page

I am trying to help a friend of mine. When you try to boot up her Dell PC (XP operating system), it gets to the "Dell" screen with Netbios and will not go any further. I can't get to Safe Mode because I can't get by this screen. It sounds like a virus to me, but do you have any suggestions to help her? I kinda out of guesses at this point. Help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks ...

Answer:[SOLVED] XP - Can't Get Past "Dell" Netbios screen

Hello, I am building a new computer, or at least trying.

Mthbrd: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R 775
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.1 GHZ
visiontek Radeon HD 3450 PCIE crap
Western Digital Caviar SE 160 SATA
2 ddr2 memory

I can't get past the "verifying the dmi pool data" in the boot. I read something about updating the bios in a short product review on newegg.com. How would that be possible? Any help is appreciated. I am about to throw the computer in the toilet.

Answer:Can't get past "verifying dmi pool data..." in boot

I AM the toilet.

Seriously, do you know how to update BIOS?

Hi there, I am running windows Vista. When I turn the computer on it stops at the screen where there is the windows vista background and the words "Loading".
I'm not sure what information I should post here, so if you think you can help me just ask me what you would like me to tell you about the situation and I will reply quickly - hopefully.
Thanks for your time and effort.

Hello Sevenforums!

I have used the search function but haven't been able to find a useful answer to my problem, so i'm taking my chances;

The problem is occurring on my Lenovo G580 Laptop - originally with Windows 7 preinstalled and Lenovo Solutions center, which had a setting to increase the battery lungevity by only charging it to 50% and then running directly off the power cord from there.

The problem however, is that in the mean time i've installed a new HDD because the old one broke down, and am now stuck with this battery setting and no knowledge of how to disable it again. I have tried to reinstall the Lenovo Software on the Windows 10 installation, but have either found a bad installer or had problems running the program, since i am not able to use and/or access said battery management settings, depending on my method of installation.

Is there some BIOS/Windows setting or anything else i can use to reverse the battery saver mode?

Sincerely; Nicklas Tegewaldt

Answer:Battery "Desktop mode" won't allow charge past 50%

It came with Win 7 and you installed win 10. Correct?
As the battery charger is controlled by a specific Lenovo driver, you must install the Lenovo program that control the battery charge. It may be that the Lenovo program only has the Win 7 driver and it don't work on Win 10.
You should ask for Lenovo help.

Had an error message in Norton about could not read incomming email for Outlook and then a message in explorer about shutting down. So, I rebooted and up comes a message I have never seen before "preparing network connections" (and I am on dial up if that helps at all) but now cannot get by the mesage box that follows (lsasse.exe. not found). Click it and nothing happens. Tried safe mode and same message and then click it and restarts in normal mode and back to the message. Can only get out of there by holding the on/off switch until it shuts off. Tried last settings and restore but nothing. I know now I should have maybe run Norton. I do not have unfortunately Norton rescue disks made up. How can I get the sytem past the system program lsasse.exe? What to do? I ran Ad-Aware a couple of days ago and cleared off about 20 critical objects....

Upon start-up, two options are given: "Start Windows Normally" or "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)".
If the Start Windows Normally option is chosen, then the starting windows screen comes up and stays. If I launch the startup repair option, then I still can not get the problem fixed.
From the Startup Repair Screen however, I can launch command prompt and restore options, how can I fix this, a restore is not really an option because I have not set up a restore point in a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you in advance.

Answer:Won't load past "Starting Windows" screen

It's possible that you can't access the actual startup repairs from within Windows itself. You might have to boot from either an installation disk or a previously made system repair disk. And it might take running the startup repair 3 times before all issues are fixed.

I tried to reset my laptop and now when I try to set it up, I cant get past the "Hi there" settings screen that asks for country, language, keyboard layout, and time zone. I hit next and then use express settings and the computer gives me the spinning white dots and then reboots back to the blue "Hi there" screen. I can get into BIOS and have a recovery drive plugged in to the laptop, but nothing seems to work. The computer can't find the drive, or my admin password is incorrect, or something else goes wrong. This is very frustrating as I haven't been able to use the laptop for a few days now.

Hi, my Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop is only loading up to the "welcome" screen, with the spinning blue circle. This has been happening every few weeks for the past few months, and I can usually get it to work, but now it isn't. I've tried Startup Repair, System Restore, chkdsk /f, and the "ctrl-alt-del at the welcome screen" method, all to no avail. Safe mode boots fine. I could back up my files and restore the computer to factory settings, but I'd rather that be a last resort.

Any ideas?

Edit: I am on Service Pack 2, by the way.

Answer:[SOLVED] Vista won't load past "Welcome" screen

If safemode works, it could be a driver issue locking things up. Did you installe any hardware or software recently?

My Dell 4600C's XP op sys was eaten by a virus before Christmas and the local shop wanted more than I have to reload XP, the backed up data and get me going again. They did say the hard drive was functional and fine. I found instructions on getting rid of all existing partitions before reinstalling XP, and have come down to the end of the installation and stuck with the error msg above.

I've read through J Barnett's instructions to load Windows onto a SATA drive at one of the links provided at the Setup cannot continue thread, and other info at other links there; I will go back through the installation and stop at the prompt to press F6 and install SCSI or RAID drivers. But I'm not completely clear on how to find the drivers on the cd's I have. I've opened up the case, made sure cable connection is tight at drive and board, and now know I have a WD400 Caviar drive - that came with the Dell.

Have been to Western Digital site to look for drivers for my model number and found specs and jumper settings for the 400BB, but the list of downloads is greek to me. There are two that mention IDE/RAID compatibility upgrade - one for 3Ware cards and one for Non-3Ware cards. Help??? I thought I just wanted plain ol' drivers.
Thanks,
Leslie

Hey guys I appreciate you reading this, you have no idea how great having forums like this is where we can help each other out.

I have gotten a virus and within minuets it got worst. My antivirus was not updated and the security was low, so when I got the virus I downloaded malware bytes on my desktop, put it on a USB drive and tried to install it on the laptop, I could not add a USB drive. My next step was to hook the HD up to the desktop and add it that way (the problem with that I had to activate the sata port via bios and when that sata port was activated it would boot that port as master everytime, the weird thing is even if I hooked the desktop sata to the second port it would load the laptop drive first everytime it did not matter what port) This is besides the point, because I dont even think this method will work because like I said in the title the HD will not load past the "Starting Windows" screen, and when in safe mode it will not load all the system files, the malware obviously deleted some important files...

The next step I am going to take is inserting the windows 7 cd and trying a system restore... What do you guys think? Am I at the point where I will loose all of my important files, by doing a reinstallation or is there a way to save those files?

Thanks guys

Urgent help needed please?
Hi built this system back in February / March this year and it has been running fine until a couple of weeks back whilst just viewing a web page and not even touching the mouse I suddenly got a BSOD now not sure if this is relevant but I had been on holiday for 2 weeks before and remember when powering down the day before it had a lot of updates to install before shutting down.
Unable to get it to boot although I did manage to get into safe mode once and did a system restore and it ran for 90 minutes before another BSOD so I thought I would do a fresh install but it only goes as far as
Press any key to load from DVD/CD then ?loading files? and then ?starting windows? and the BSOD again.

Now I have been around computers since the ZX81 days but have been unable to sort this problem, first I thought the mobo had gone down and change it to an Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 but still the same BSOD.
Changed out the SSD for a Samsung 840 EVO but still the same.
Now I have just tried an AMD Phenom II x4 965 but still the same.
I have also pressed the memory check button on the mobo and all ok, I have also changed the sata cables.
I have removed 2 of the graphics cards so now only running on one (I have also tried each of the others).
Thinking it was virus as if I left it after the ?press any key to load? It came up with bootmgr missing which is why I fitted a new SSD.
Now I am sure everything is set ok in the bios but I may have missed something obvious... Read more

Can you log in to safe mode then try sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt. Its possible you have a corrupt user profile. You could create a new account and see if that fixes the problem. Do you have backup you can recover from? If not, you could try a repair install.

Hi all,

Every time I turn on my Dell Dimension 5150, I get greeted with "We apologize for the inconvenience... Windows did not start successfully".

My options are:

Safe Mode,
Safe Mode with Networking,
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last known good config...

Start Windows normally.

I have tried every option on several occasions... the windows xp logo comes up... then the dell logo comes up, everything seems to be running smoothly... then comes a black screen with a small flashing dot in the top left... and then I see the same"We apologize for the inconvenience... Windows did not start successfully" screen.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Can't get past "Windows did not start successfully" screen...

Have you added any new hardware just prior to this happening? If so remove it and try again.

Did you install new software or run windows update just prior to it happening?

Without much to go on it may be worth doing a windows repair installation. It sounds dramatic, but it will not destroy any of your data or files, just attempt to repair the windows os installation.

There is a step-by-step guide with pics here. Hopefully that will resolve your problem if windows became corrupt somehow...

This issue recently started happening to me, mainly after I attached a new HD monitor to my computer and updated my graphic drivers.

When I updated the drivers, I had two monitors connected, one via DVI (the one I was using before getting the new monitor) and the new HD monitor, which is connected via HDMI. Not sure if this is relevant, but just figured I'd mention it in case it's a possible cause.

The only way that I can boot is in Safe Mode... otherwise it just hangs on the Starting Windows screen with the Windows animation constantly glowing.

I have tried running start-up repair, but that seems to hang on the "Attempting to fix problems" screen, so I have to do a hard reboot each time. However, it was able to get past that a few times and say that the issues have been fixed and the only option it gave was to restart, so I did... but the same thing ends up happening. Computer hangs on Starting Windows.

I have also tried removing all display drivers in safe mode and any other software that I recently installed to see if they were causing any problems, but the issue still persists.

Additionally, I have tried running MSCONFIG and unchecked "Load startup items" under Selective Startup and disabled all non-Microsoft services, but no dice.

Booting to last known good configuration did not work as well.

I was able to efficiently use the new monitor just fine for a few days until this started happening.

Any ideas for a solution?

My PC disk drive hasn't worked for about a year now, but I have Win 7 install on a flash drive, however I also can't seem to do this as booting from the flash drive results in a black screen.

I'm having troubles connecting to a specific website, http://www.deviantart.com/ . For the last week or so, every time I've tried to connect to deviantart it's been giving me an error. It always says "Failure To Connect To Web Server". The router I'm using lets me access the site on another computer, but not this one. I've visited a few websites trying to figure out what the problem is, and from what I've gathered, it's either hughesnet or something with my computer. A lot of people have been having problems with hughesnet, trying to get to certain websites like imageshack, deviantart and others but receiving the failure to connect error. I don't know. Anyway, here's my hijackthis log, and thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Answer:"Failure To Connect To Web Server" for the past week.

Okay, bumping this topic and giving some more information on my problem that I just now discovered.
Last night, I could access deviantart just fine, no problems at all. So I thought the problem corrected because I downloaded ad-aware and cleared all of the tracking cookies on my computer. I thought it was kind of a weird reason for the site to start working, but I wasn't going to question it. But when I tried to access the site again a few minutes ago, it was back to the "Failure to Connect To Web Server" crap.
So if anyone has any help to offer, I would really appreciate it.

My laptop froze after entering a wrong product key. I then pressed the shut down button till my computer went off. I restarted the computer and chose the "start windows normally" option. The laptop boots to "setup is preparing for first use" screen. It lasts for about 1 minute and then the computer restarts automatically following the same processes.

Answer:Windows 7 does not boot past "setup is preparing..."
