Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

Question: Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

My Email client, MSN Premium (not Hotmail) will not open to write an email when clicking on any website's button labeled "send us an email". Instead this action causes several instances (up to 5) of IE6 to invoke and then the Op Sys (WinME) hangs until I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the erroneously opened IE tasks. I thought maybe it was that MSN mail was not my default email client so I used the proceedure to make MSN mail my default instead of OE6 but each time I returned to the options to see if it had changed it still says my default client is OE. Interestingly, if I envoke the MSN explorer and go to my MSN email inbox I can send and receive my email perfectly. This machine has been up and running since last October. I do not know if the problem has always existed or started more recently since I don't often click on "send us email" buttons.
I have three other machines similarly set up and none of them exhibit this problem.
WinMe, MSN Premium, and MSN messenger 6 all are up to date and current.
McAfee AV is on and up to date.
CounterSpy and Spybot are up to date and actively running.
Firefox 1.0.2 is my default browser

Preferred Solution: Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As I use Googlemail now how do I set up Open Office to use it to "send Documents as Email" please.
(I'm sure this is basic stuff but I'm at a loss with it)

Answer:Authorize Open Office to "Send document as email"

I pretty sure you may need third party software to do what you want if you are using gmail. Why not just send as an attachment.
Anyway look here and see if this will suit your needs. Affixa There is a free basic version for personal use.

IE6 upgraded to IE8
XP SP2

When attempting to "send link" or "send page" via email, IE6 and IE8 (upgraded to 8 in an attempt to resolve problem) produce error message stating that I need to set Outlook or Outlook Express as the default mail client. I use Thunderbird and have set IE to Thunderbird in Tools/Options as the mail client. Still, IE will not open Thunderbird when attempting to send a URL. Had this problem with IE6 and IE8 after upgrade.

Ideas?

I use OE and Gmail, which is configured to display through my Outlook Express details page. Everything's always worked smoothly until a couple of weeks ago. Now, perhaps one in about every half dozen attempts, when I click "Send Receive", it freezes/hangs on the "Securing" part of the set up before it displays any messages. It remains frozen for about 15-20 seconds then I get an error message. If I try again it usually works?? Can anyone help please?

When I click on a file on my desktop say, and I wish to send to "mail recipient" --- it defaults to Outlook. Is it possible to change it to GMAIL? Gmail obviously isn't on the list of programs, since it's not a program...but, surely there has to be a way??? I've been googling like crazy, but, all I see is adding google talk or gmail notifier, which I had already, but, those don't change anything except for clicking on email links on websites.

We have a gmail account. We receive lots of emails from a friend whose ISP was recently bought out. Using his former ISP, when he sent an email with an attachment, we'd click on " download", then get the pop-up to "open, save or cancel". We'd then click on "open" and there was the attachment. Now that he's changed over, emails with attachment don't give us the "open" option when we click "download" in the body of the message. He knows even less about "computering" than we do but, since we receive and open email attachments from other people, logic would tell us that something's not set up right on his end. He does say, however, that we and one other of his email friends are the only two that this is happening with; others are able to open his attachments. Does he need to confer with his ISP support people or do we need to make some sort of setting change in gmail? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Someone on this forum gave me the registry edit command I needed to make Outlook Express automatically open email attachments that, for reasons that are a mystery to me, the attachments come in with a ".email" rather than a ".eml" extension. I stored the Run command in a special folder, but it got erased when I had to reformat my HD last weekend. Would someone please tell me what that command is? Thanks.

This is odd.

When I attempt to click on the My Computer icon on the desktop to pull up my information like Hard Drive space and such, the system hangs until I hit control alt delete to end task. Then it does some weird stuff until I usually have to restart. It almost always does this.

Is this common with Windows Vista? Especially 64bit?

Hey everybody,
Thank you for the help in advance. I have my computer set to hotmail as my server when I want to send an email link to a page I am on. My address book does not automatically fill in when I address the sendee. How do I do this, and/or how do I change it to gmail, where I believe, (whether correctly or not,) that the address book will populate when I type the first few letters of the sendee's address? Thanks again for your expertise. Nike

Folks,

I did a Panda Scan recommended by one of the experts
on this forum, and it reported that it found some infected
(containing malicious code)
Java applets/files on my system.

I then did a Google search for this worm "Exploit-ByteVerify"
and found the following article
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100261.htm

which seems to suggest that this vulnerability can cause
malicious code to run on one's machine, and that it affects
Outlook Express (this is the mail agent from which all of my
returned junk mail is apparently coming from).

I then took the following actions:
i) Went to the following Microsoft page to read up on this,
and updated my Microsoft VM build to 5.0.3810 (I had
.3805 installed)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-011.asp

This is supposed to plug the vulnerability.

ii) I did not install Microsofts Extended Email Security Patch for Outlook 2000 in Win2K described below
http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/2000/Out2ksec.aspx

because it seems to prevent one from getting all sorts of
normal extension files, and is an irreversible process!

The questions I now have are the following:

i) I assume one would still have to delete/fix the files Panda found
(I hadn't selected automatic fix in the first round)

ii) Does anyone know how to check if infected email is going out
of one's system??
(I certainly don't have any emails in the Sent folder of my
Outlook Express, but then... Read more

Does anyone know why "send page by email" is greyed out in Internet Explorer 8?

This add-on is installed and enabled in IE 8, but it still will not work.

I normally use Firefox and even though I read a few bad reviews about it's ?Email the Web? add-on, I went ahead and installed it because there is no alternative now for the newest update for Firefox because the "Send Page by Email" Firefox add-on isn't yet compatible with the newest 3.6.12 Firefox update... it appears that I'll have to install Safari to use the built-in send page by email feature.

Though Internet Explorer 8 comes with a "send page by email" add-on pre-installed, it does not seem work anymore... even though it?s "send page by email" add-on is enabled, the option is still grayed-out and inaccessible under ?file?.

The ?Email the Web? add-on for Firefox installs and has a nice interface button, as well as the file menu choice, but that?s where the good things end and the problems start. The initial interface is a bit cumbersome, then it takes me to a webpage to log-in to a Google account, and if I don?t already have a Google account, I have to jump through all the hoops to create one, then I must be logged in to that anytime I want to send a webpage by email, then instead of working with my default email app, I need to enter email addresses manually unless I have a gmail account to import addresses from... then after the 10 minutes that it takes to get thr... Hello!
Thanks in Advance for anyone who can shed light on this for me. I have had a few emails recently that have "bounced" back as undeliverable that I didn't write/send. I think I read that this could be a worm/virus that is sending out emails using my email address. I typically do not download attachments, and never download them from an unknown source or without scanning for a virus. All of my software for viruses is up to date.
I am copy/pasting the email below. Can someone let me know if you can tell which virus/worm/whatever I may have and let me know what to do to remove.

IE8 "Send Link (and Pictures) by Email" Function No Longer Works.

I have had this issue using other Operating Systems as well. I've had this issue using Firefox as well as different versions of Outlook (Express, Mail and now 2007)

I believe the IE/Outlook link gets broken after I ran ASC (Advanced System Care).

Is this an Internet Explorer issue or an issue with Outlook ?

How do I fix this issue ?

Answer:IE8 "Send Link by Email" Function No Longer Works...

Since you mentioned that you used advanced system care, I think that is causing the problem, turn it off. I would not use it in the future.

The only protection that you need, and toavoid many problems, is Microsoft Security Essentials. and Malwarebytes.You do not need anything else.

Just use the protection I have named and do the routine, easy maintenace.

If you need help just ask.

I recently upgraded to Win 10, also installed Office 2016 Pro Plus. My Brother all in one printer scanned to email easily on Win 7, no longer does, Brother could not figure it out. I tried sending to email from Word, get "mapi failure, unspecified error".
Hoping that if I can solve this, scan to email will also work.
I have researched this issue for many hours, can find no solutions that are not old ones, referring to files and directories that do not exist. Tried renaming mapi32.dll (after installing the "take ownership" app.), to no avail. It never gets reinstalled. Tried copying it from a newer laptop, still no joy.

Using Windows Live mail client, set as default in Windows 10.

Most of the posts I can find on the internet regarding the mapi failure are for older systems, this is very new Windows 10, and new Office 2016.

Very disappointed in Microsoft issuing new software that will not work together!

Have just registered (again!), after my attempts to sign in were met by a message saying that my email address was not recognised as linking to an account, which is odd because I last registered in March 2010 with the same address.
Having registered, it said: "Congratulations! You are now a PC Advisor Account member.
Please note: In order to post in our forums you need to confirm your email address by clicking on the 'SEND ACTIVATION EMAIL' button on any of our forum listings or forum post pages."
So I've come to this Win 8 forum, but can't see a "Send Activation Email" button anywhere. Frustrated now!

But the email goes through to the person. The issue is that you really don't know if it sent because the box does not close or say it has sent.

Windows XP help needed - - -
Anyone had this problem before? For some reason, the wizard that used to pop up and prompt me to resize my photos to smaller jpegs before launching Outlook to email them has stopped working. Now, when I click on a photo to email it, Outlook simply opens and the 1MB photo is an attachment - - no more helpful wizard to shrink my photo file into a manageable email attachment.

Anyone know why this may have stopped working, and how to re-enable the wizard? Help.....

So I'm trying to send an email in Thunderbird from the accounts on my domain,it seems to connect to the server because I'm getting a prompt for: Enter your password for Admin on mail.myurl.com.

Thing is I can't figure out which password it's asking for, I've tried everyone of the passwords I've used for the admin account and all the other parts of this project and none of the are working.

I've also tried changing the passwords for the email accounts in question, no dice. Nothing seems to get me anywhere.

I can login to both accounts, I can check/receive email on both accounts, but I can't send without this mystery password. Sigh, help.

Something happened recently when suddenly I am unable to send a web page by email.
Using Vista & Windows Mail where I have no problem in composing, sending & receiving mail.
However, when I want to send a web page by email, I go to File>Send>Page by email and i get a screen showing To:& CC where I click for my contact directory & I choose where I want to send the page to.
But now I have no send button. Instead, the line above the To field states "This email has not been sent."
Unable to figure out how to send. Note: this is a new problem which started about 10 days ago.

Hello and yes, another one of this. Although I know absolutely nothing of VBA, I've read about a dozen topics on the subject on techguy and other communities in an attempt to figure out something, a way to do it.

I found the script that was the most likely to work in my case, analyzed it, switched the references, cells and so on. I think I am getting close to something functional, alas, I fear it is as far as my knowledge and Trials & Errors goes.

I'll be forever grateful if someone can fix this for me. I'll even donate 5$ to Tech Support Guy with a mention of your glorious name

I am using Excel 2010 in English, Windows 7 and Outlook.

Attached is the fruit of all my efforts. I am looking to make a task tracker that will email me should a task approach its due date (yes I know that sheet will have to remain opened, it isn't an issue )
Many thanks and best regards,

I often forward email I have gotten, and have a policy of deleting name/email address of original sender(s) address, as well as others who might have forwarded the message.

Lately I have set the message up to send (forward). however that choice is not available, and in its place is "send later." I do not want to send later and have yet to determine how to send it later anyway.

Sometimes I must copy the message I received, edit, set the message up and then send that.

Inquiring (and enquiring) minds want to know "now what!"

Thanks for ant suggestions or help

For some time now, double clicking on a folder no longer opens it as usual. Instead, double clicking on a folder causes a separate Explorer Search window to open, with that folder's name under the "search in" tab. In fact, when i right click on a folder, the first and bold-faced option is "search", as opposed to "open". So to open any folder I have to right click it and hit open, which is slow and annoying. I cleaned out my registry, spyware, viruses, everything, and still this problem persists. I also checked the Mouse control panel, nothing there.

Anyone know what's going on with my computer?

Answer:Help! Double-clicking on folders prompts "search", not "open"

Hi

Open "My Documents", go into Tools>Folder Options and under General>Browse Folders choose Open each folder in the same window. Save that and then goto View>Explorer Bar> and click Folders.

See if its better now.

I'm using Outlook 2010 for work emails. The program will run fine for an hour or so opening email attachments in a matter of a second or two, then all of a sudden it starts to take 15 to 20 seconds to open an "unread" attachment. An attachment that has already been opened will open quickly anytime.

I've tried disabling add ons. I've tried using CCCleaner to clean out the computer as well as it's registry scanner. I've tried deleting all of my other emails, saved, sent or deleted, so there are only a few in Outlook and nothing has helped. The only way that it will function properly again for a short period of time is if I shut down my computer completely and restart. Then, I'm in that same perpetual loop of working great for a little while, then it starts opening email attachments slow again.

Any ideas?

Answer:"Unread" email attachments open slow-Outlook 2010

I appreciate your response very much. I did try that and it didn't seem to help.

I'm going to throw a wrench in this and probably cause a lot more confusion, but I've recently found something that appears to have something to do with the problem. This computer is hardwired (ethernet) into a wireless router. About once or twice in a 10 hour period during the day, the router somehow disconnects the internet. I have to turn the router off for 15 seconds and it comes back up along with the internet everytime. For some reason, I've noticed that just before (and I'm talking 15 to 30 mins. before) the router disconnects the internet, the email attachments begin to open slow. As soon as I reset the router, the email attachments open normally.

Go figure? I honestly can't see how one has anything to do with the other, but I'm about 99 & 9/10's sure that the problem goes hand in hand with the router disconnecting. I've just recently (in the last few days) noticed this and have been monitoring and experimenting with it. So far, it happens everytime.

Hello all,

I have a problem with my Windows XP, and the problem is like the title says, Why when I Open(double clicking) My Computer icon on desktop, it displays searching "Flashlight" icon rather than browsing or showing my folders and drives?

Do you guys know how to fix it?

Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Open(double clicking) My Computer Opens Searching "Flashlight" Icon

Just googling and found the solution. It's because a Windows service called Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), the solution is by stop and then disable this service from control panel --> administrative tools --> services.

Hey guys,
I have a user who is using Outlook 2010, and intermittently recieves the error "Cannot open default email folders. Server is not available." When she receives this error, outlook closes. Looked in the event viewer when it crashed it made this:
P1: 300111
P2: 14.0.6029.1000
P3: heqz
P4: 0x80040111
She is connecting to a POP3 account online, everything checks out in the "mail" settings in the control panel. Her .pst files aren't too big.
I've tried a repair install, an uninstall followed by a fresh install, and updating to SP1 for Office 2010. Nothing seems to be helping, it is hit and miss when it does it, which makes it that much harder to troubleshoot. Any thoughts?

I emailed myself an essay, and instead of saving the file, i just pressed "open". Now after a couple hours of editing I can't find the file anywhere on my computer. Is this file gone forever, or is there still a chance of finding it?

Answer:Pressing "open" instead of save on an email attachment

What email service do you use? This is the reason it is wise to save a project every few minutes when you are working on it.... Saves a lot of grief...

Hello,

I am new here & am happy to be a member here

Problem In Firefox 3 Browser:

I don't know what changed this but it is irritating for me. I use 2 browsers, Internet Explorer 7 & Mozilla Firefox 3, mostly Firefox. I use MSN Hotmail Live as my Email program.
I logged on to Firefox today into Windows Live Hotmail and tried to Right-click to open an Individual Email in a NEW WINDOW, that option is now gone!
The only options available on right-click is:
Bookmark This Link
Copy Link Location
Properties
Adblock Images...

Open In New Window & Open In New Tab was available yesterday & before.
Does anyone know how I can get these options back?

Problem In Internet Explorer 7 Browser:

In the same email program, all the options are available to click but when I try to open an email in a New Tab or New Window, no windows open...nothing happens
The emails will open in the same window though.

I am use to opening all my emails in a new window while leaving the list of emails open, so it is aggravating that I don't have these options.

Is there anything I can do to get these to open in a New Window again?

I have a Gateway
Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Service Pack 2

I sure would appreciate any help that anyone could provide

Thanks in advance,
simplyrose2000

PS: "These options seem to be working with other links and pages in both browsers"

Answer:Missing: "OPEN IN NEW WINDOW" In FF & IE Email

I noticed the same thing before the long weekend and felt like I had been administered a 2x4 in a dark place.
I'm fairly certain this is a Hotmail problem - in IE you still get the option to right-click but what opens is an empty window. They seem to have replaced the link with some fancy java scripting.

I sent them feedback to complain, but did not hear back.

Given how I work with email, Hotmail is now unusable for me, so I will have to migrate to gmail or some other service. Coincides nicely with my Hotmail Plus account renewal in September, which will now be a cancellation. I should have canceled a long time ago (what am paying for anyhow?).

Question: "Send to..." email

From the Start key, I used to be able to go to Document and then a specific file, right click and 'Send To' my default email, which is AOL. I must have changed a setting in reloading some software recently, because now it only offers me 'Mail recipient using Microsoft Outlook'. Can someone tell me how to get mail via AOL back as an option please.

Answer:"Send to..." email

Hi,

Just a shot in the dark, try if you've not already done so: Open Internet Explorer -> Click Tools -> Then Internet Options -> Programs -> In the E-mail box select AOL if in the drop down menu. Thats all I can think of.

Hi,

I opened a spam email link containing the "System Care" virus. It took over and I couldn't do anything on the computer. I unplugged it and after a week here I am...

I am having a problem with DDS. The default setting is for it to open with "AutoCAD Script." The output is a few pages in notepad containing random characters like this ... ?}j??Y?j??3<?b????N?/ ... Any suggestions to fix this?

The GMER scan results are attached. (operating system is WinXP)

Thank you,

greenhaze

Answer:"System Care Antivirus" Virus from email

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Please delete the present copy of DDS from your desktop and download
this version of DDS. Click on the Save button and save it to your desktop.
Disable your antivirus and then, double click on the dds.com icon on your desktop to run the tool.
Once you double-click the icon a Windows security warning may also appear asking if you are sure you would like to run the program
Click on the Run button to start DDS. If no warning appeared, then just continue reading.
Make sure that dds.txt and attach.txt boxes are checked.
Click on the Start button.
Please wait until the scan is completed and two logs are produced.
Post the contents of the logs in your next reply.

About one month ago, a new problem surfaced:

Most times when I try to "Save As" a document and the application calls Windows Explorer for me to Browse where to save the file, it hangs for upwards of 60 seconds. The Browse window appears, but then I get a "spinning circular cursor" for 45-60 seconds until I can do anything. This occurs in all applications from MSExcel through Internet Explorer.

The system never completely crashes, but there is always this 60 second lag now.

The lag also occurs when I try to open a document...and to a less extent, but sometimes, when I simply open Windows Explorer (Windows Explorer is inconsistent as to whether it will give me a lag...sometimes it does work fine).

I have previously tried posting in the malware forum. I had picked something up they found...and cleaned it out, but that seems to have been completely unrelated to this as it was a virus redirecting my Google searches.

Can anyone help?

newbie here, just googled on because I have somehow received some annoying spyware that is driving me nuts. In the system tray a bubble pops up every 10 seconds or so with this message:

System Alert: [email protected]
Type: Spyware/Trojan
Vulnerable: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2003/Windows XP
Description: Spyware program that sends confidential information to a remote attacker
Protection: Click this baloon to download official security software

I also get pop-ups every now and then.

I have AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 but it hasn't seemed to be able to kill it. Nor has my Norton Internet security. I have been reading some threads of others who describe similar problems, and at the end of each one there is instruction to start a new thread if you have the same problem.

So, I am starting a new thread. Any help in cleaning my system will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

PS: While writing this I received another triangle with "System Alert: Malvware threats" that informs that my computer is infected with a back door Trojan ... and asked to click on it to download removal software. I suspect it is related to the original one.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

At work we are having problems receiving an email with an encrypted attachment from another company. Monthly they send alerts to do with debit cards and since they have been doing this everytime we never get the email and they eventually get mail delivery subsystem error back saying " could not send message for past four hours {encrypt On Reply}" in the body of the email it says "timeout writing message to (name of my email server) : resource temporarily unavailable ( the email address it is trying to be sent to)" I have check on our end the smtp log file and it never even shows the email hitting our gateway so I dont see why we would be blocking the email. It seems to me this is something on thier end but they cant find a solution. Once again this is an email with an encrypted attachment that is an alert.. it is emailed to a distribution email address then sent to evryone in that distribution list. They get other emails fine it is just this certain one that we cant get. Does anyone have any idea what could be keeping this email from coming through?

A friend and me started playing Left 4 Dead via Hamachi VPN* and Ogerlauncher v1.1, it went well for one day, but the next day I could not join my friend's server anymore without frequently getting disconnects ("Retrying connecting to server"), and vice versa. The console says "Cannot send to client info with null XUID". We tried forwarding ports 27000 to 27039 which are said to be the necessary ports for Left 4 Dead, but it did not help.

* We do not use Steam servers due to high latency at the time of day we would like to play, we did buy two legal copies of the game.

L4D is supposed to only connect thru Steam servers.. I'm pretty positive this isn't fully legal so... I haven't seen any kind of ping spikes at any time of day, either...

I'm using Outlook 2003 and have multiple email accounts. I just switched the default email account. However, when I send someone an email it says it is from the old default email address. I've looked at the properties of my new default account and no where in there does it mention this older email account. Outlook clearly is showing that the email is going out on my new default email account but the reply to email or the from portion is from another email account. Any suggestions?

If I check the box in either Outlook or Outlook Express to leave a copy of an email on the server and end up with 2 copies of every email, does that mean that the ISP does not allow copies to be left on the server? No copies are left on the server. There is nothing addressing that at the ISP website or the mail server site, one way or the other. My provider is Charter.

Answer:Solved: "leave an email copy on server" problem

Hi BearMom

The default setting for an e-mail client (program) is to remove messages from the server when you perform a Send/Receive.

If you want messages to be available to download to another computer (or another e-mail client on the same computer) then enabling the setting: Leave a copy of messages on the server, will tell the e-mail client to Not clear the messages from the mail server.
Both e-mail clients need to have the setting: Leave a copy of messages on the server enabled, for you to see the messages remaining on the mail server.
Otherwise, the e-mail client without that setting enabled, will clear the messages off the server.

Your ISP gives you a set limit on your mail storage. If that limit is reached, then your mail server will reject messages that are sent to you, until you make room by removing/deleting messages on the server. Messages on the mail server are just messages, they are not viewed as copies by the ISP.
I have the same setup with Outlook and Outlook Express with leaving a copy of messages on the server, enabled in both programs. Every few months, I disable that setting in one of my e-mail programs and download messages, which clears the messages off the server, so that the mail server does not fill-up. After downloading the messages, I enable the setting again.

Does that help?

Trouble seems to have started when I tried to reactivate my "HI5" Account. Had a lot of trouble With Emailed Links from them not working and freezing Outlook Express and then XP so that I had to crash out and reboot. Next I started getting Emails retrieved that came duplicated and were mails I had previously received and dealt with earlier. I did a complete computer scan with AVG and the following virus were found In C:/ drive root and duplicated in Windows32 folder.

rcvbm.exe - Packed.Monder.
umoikchf.exe - Trojan - H_Spambot.W
braviax.exe - Pack.Monder
cru629.dat - Small

These were successfully dealt with by AGV putting them in the virus vault and later I deleted them. Incidentally when I was trying to re activate my HI5 A/c I got an error message from the OS: "rcvbm.exe failed to launch"

When the AVG console opend at the start of the scan I got a red Alert that my Email scanner was deactivated I cannot find any way to activate it or even find any sign of it anywhere in the programs under AVG folder. I written a full report in case anyone else has these symptoms.
Hoping someone can help, Aleck

Hey gang,

I'm using Outlook 2000 & everytime I try to create a new message a pop-up box appears. The message reads as follows.

"A program is trying to access e-mail addresses that you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?

If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose "No".

I'm then given the option to allow access for 1, 2, 5, 10 minutes etc...

I'm hoping somebody can help.

Thanks,

This should be a basic question but I could not find the answer in Outlook Express Help. Using Outlook Express. When I send out a group email, is there a way to just have the name of the group in the "TO" box, for instance "Friends" At present, Outlook Express spells out each and every email address and this upsets some recipients.
Thank you.

My Windows XP, SP2 system has recently developed some problem behaviour:

For example, if I download an executable (say ppp.exe); open the containing folder using Explorer and "right-click" "open" on the file ppp.exe, the executable does not execute. Instead the Explorer window shows an "hour glass" cursor and the Explorer window shows the (not Responding) message in its title.

The only way to recover has been to power off the machine - the Windows shut-down sequence appears to be broken.

Similar behaviour occurs if I "double-click" on the executable.

If I boot Windows XP in safe mode, I find that I can execute the ppp.exe file with success, but this is cumbersome and recently I have been experiencing problems getting into safe mode.

Also, the "Add or Remove" program has stopped working - I get the "hour glass" hang during what should be a normal uninstall sequence.

I would appreciate help in getting my XP system back to working condition.

Thanks.

Was just wondering if anyone has encountered a problem like this before. I have a system that hangs when I click the "Turn Off Computer" icon in the Start Menu to gain access to the "Standby" "Turn Off" and "Restart" buttons. After I click the "Turn Off Computer" button it will just sit there for several minutes with the hourglass until finally the menu will come up. I fixed this once before by removing some things from startup. This time I fixed it by killing the googletaskbar.exe. I then uninstalled the Google Taskbar and rebooted and still did not have a problem but suddenly it has returned! I have no idea what is going on, there is really nothing obscure that is starting up on boot or running. Anyone have suggestions??

Hi,

Having 2 partitions, one with XP Pro with sp3 and the other Win 7 Ultimate.

When running XP and when wanting to shut down,

Click 'Start' - 'Turn Off Computer...' It hangs then for awhile (approx 30/45 secs) before the box comes up ('Stand-by' - 'Shut Down' - 'Restart'). Once 'Shut down' is clicked, it shuts down reasonably quick.

Any Ideas

Thanks

With XP's Outlook Express-
When you'd delete email from their Folders, they weren't "completely deleted..." until you Compacted Databases & Reboot (without CD, OE would Not release from backup..., and Bloat...!).
~~~~
Q1?- I now use WLM 2009 POP3/only (I like 2009's GUI, Much better than 2012), and wondered if I needed to regularly Compact Databases for "complete delete...", like I did with OE?
Q2?-If WLM's CD is the same as OE, how often should I schedule CD?
Answer:Does WLM "completely" delete email without "Compact Datadases"?
I also like and use WLM 2009. It depends how your mail accounts are set. My Gmail is archived when accessed by POP, My AOL mail is left on the server.
This is how my settings are.
When attempting to browse folders using Explorer opened from Start Menu Or left click on start button, Explorer will allow click on "-" to close paths, but hangs with hour glass if any attempt is made to expand any path or open any file. Explorer remains in this state until closed, at which time Windows asks if I wish to report the problem to Microsoft.
If I use the "My Computer" icon on the desktop to browse, all actions including access to networked resources work perfectly.
Can anyone please explain the difference between the two file browsing utilities and offer an explanation of the above?
My system is: AMD 3000; 2GB Ram Xp Pro with all service packs and updates. I am on a wired network with fixed IP addresses. Other network components are: Old Dual P350 with 0.5GB Ram running Windows 2000 (Explorer on this machine has no problems including access to networked resources); Buffalo 1TB Link Station; 2Wire ADSL router and HP LaserJet 1100 printer.
Six months ago I bought a Dell small business laptop. I have experienced one problem that I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or a software problem. It acts like a software problem. The problem is with Internet Explore 6.0 with SP 2. When I click on IE it opens immediately with no problem. Then I click on one of my “Favorites” and that site will come up immediately. However, from that point on when I click on another favorite the computer freezes up. It will set there forever showing my favorites list on top of my current site if I do nothing else. In order to get the computer to move on to the selected favorite I have to click on a blank spot on the current web site. Even to get this to work I have to wait 5-10 seconds after I have clicked on the favorite. But after that wait the site will come up as soon as I click on the blank spot on the current site. I have no problem of returning to my home page from any web site if I click on my home icon on the tool bar. I also have no problem going from site to site on Google. I have not experienced this problem at all using any other method other than the list of sites from my favorites. Therefore, at this point I am convinced that the problem is associated with favorites list only. I have turned off my Spy Sweeper and my Norton firewall just for a test and that did not help. (Windows firewall is turned off.) I have talked to Dell and they can’t seem to pin point the problem. I have tried to get Microsoft to discuss it with... Read more
A friend has sent an email which has as the sent ID (see full header below). I know that the ID shown is associated with a money type scam and she remembers clicking on something like this but deleted it. She still receives email at her listed email address, the "microsoft . . . " ID shows up when she replies to my (and other friends') emails. Is this anything more than an annoyance since it doesn't actually change her email address?
She is not computer savvy, also not close so I can't look at her computer, etc.
My desktop and laptop OS's: Windows 7 Professional SP1.
A very strange thing just started with GMail. I have a number of both Gmail accounts and COMCAST (my ISP) email accounts. I have three computers at home (two desktops and one laptop). All three computers have the exact same email accounts on them (all accounts configured exactly the same) whether it be in Oultook 2007 or Thunderbird. Especially the feature of 'leave a copy on the server'. The two desktop computers have Outlook and Thunderbird installed. The laptop only has Thunderbird as the lone ranger email program.
Just yesterday AND ONLY WITH GMAIL I will receive emails on one computer but not the other two. The COMCAST emails continue to be received on all three computers.
I have went to a ton of places on the web to try to solve the matter. No luck.
Can anyone provide an idea as to what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Dekade
Hi TechGuy,
I'm having some recent problems on my laptop. When I log-in and start using it, the performance starts slowing down. When I look at the Task Manager, I notice that the task called Explorer.exe takes up a lot of my CPU. In a couple of minutes, I also start getting Internet Explorer windows to pop-up on my screen (I normally use Firefox) with advertisements suggesting that my computer is infected and some software downloads that could help. I recently installed McAfee Total Works, or whatever they call their 10-in-1 software which is supposed to do it all. I ran several scans, and on some of them, if did find and disable the Generic.dx trojan. Even though it claims it is doing something, I don't notice any changes - Explorer.exe continues to bog me down, and the IE windows keep popping up to the point that I cannot use my computer effectively anymore.
Microsoft XP-Professional
Any pointers would be truly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Hello,
I'm an XP user and I need help desperately. I have a Dell notebook and of late, every time I open "My Computer" and double-click on the C drive or the D drive, the "Open With...." dialogue window opens up. So now if I want to get into my hard drives, I have to right click and choose "Open" or "Explore". This is getting very frustrating and I'm not that qualified to go around tweaking registry items. So can anyone help me out with this? I understand that some people have had a similar problem - the "Search" window opens up when double-clicking the drive icons. By the way, out of desperation, I used the "Fix Folder open.vbs" file and it still didn't work. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Many thanks.
Okay this has happened on both of my machines and happened again after recently formatting one of them.
I'm sure it must be some program I'm Installing but don't know which one.
I tried removing possible culprets but no luck, so whatever the app is screwing up it's not rolling it back.
I really don't feel like formatting again.
-Anyway to the problem-
I right click any folder/Program Group within All Programs on the start menu
I click Open or Explore and I'm prompted for a destination as if I had clicked "Move to Folder"
If I click cancel on the move prompt the folder DOES open as it should have.
This only happens on these program groups. The options behave normally anywhere else in windows explorer.
I figure there must be a key somewhere in HKEY CLASSES ROOT for that class of folder but I can't find it.
Hopefully one of you knows what it is.
Thanks,
Kenny
I have WinXP, Home Edition, and my ISP is JUNO. All of a sudden--things having gone well for years--I can't click on a "Contact Us" button and bring up my email. Instead, I get about 62 small windows with the message that the default mail client is not properly installed and then have to get rid of them all. What might I have unwittingly done to uninstall the default mail client? What IS that, anyway? I have a hunch that uninstalling and reinstalling JUNO might fix the problem, but I still would like to know what could cause it so I won't do it again.
Hi,
When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.
Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?
Answer:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.
Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.
However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!
