Cant read emails in outlook express older than three days.

Question: Cant read emails in outlook express older than three days.

Since I received the spam email from business review, which resulted in 4 virus alerts from AVG, my computer has been running slow. Suddenly today I am only able to read the last three days of my emails, although the inbox folder indicates nearly 800K of saved files.

I am using Windows 98 Second Edition
I have loaded the outlook 6 upgrade from microsoft.

I have copied over the inbox file as a backup, but don't know how to read this.

Help!?

Preferred Solution: Cant read emails in outlook express older than three days.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I am so glad I found this site! I have tried everything!

My trouble is with OutLook Express 6 email.
I am running Windows XP,and IE6.
I can receive emails, but they do not display in the
message box. It is totally blank. I have checked all
my settings with my husband's laptop (in Tools, then Options) and all are the same. The only way I can read
the email, in text only, is to check the "Read" box in the Options that says "read all messages in plain text".
Then the text can only be read as an attachment.
It apprears as if the HTML function is not there any more.

Also, I cannot compose, reply, or forward emails at all.

I hope this makes sense and you can help me.
Please let me know if you need anything else to diagnose
my problem.

And thank you so much for your response.
Pam

Going abroad (very soon)I need to read my OE emails while awayCan anyone point me in the right direction, on how to do this.or is there a way to (tempoarily) divert the OE to a Hotmail account ??Alan

Answer:Read Outlook Express emails- abroad??

You can read your e-mails by logging into your account with your ISP, navigate to the e-mail center and read them there. They can be downloaded later by leaving them marked as unread or deleted when you have finished with them.

When using Outlook Express (Note: EXPRESS, not MS Outlook) I often use the 'Find' function to search for old sent or received emails. However I'm not able to open the emails from this feature (message reads: 'Message could not be Displayed - Check your comp for low memory or low disc space'). I have plenty of both - I'm using a near new comp with 80GB hard drive, only 35GB of which is used. I have 2GB of RAM with 1GB or more of head room when running usual applications.

This is a time-wasting hassle, as I need to write down the date and time the email was sent, close the find box, then search for the email chronologically. If that's not the one I was looking for I have to do the same thing all over again.

Would this have anything to do with the size of my Outlook Express folder, which has about 7GB of emails stored.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

I've rebooted, turned on & off Outlook. I even disconnected my Internet connection, then reconnected it. I've checked my Outlook settings and they are fine. I also turned off my ... Read more

Answer:Outlook Express Won't Receive Emails - but Sends Emails with good Internet Connection

Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

My partner and I both have hotmail live email accounts. I had his emails forwarding to mine because he doesn't regularly check his. I set this up years ago and don't even remember exactly how I did it.

The last email to him that was forwarded into my email was on 13 May.

Using his laptop I logged into his account directly and the Outlook Mail page looks different to mine. There were no emails in his account at all.

Using my laptop and email account I sent an email to his address and this came through to his email on his laptop but did not bounce forward into mine.

There were definitely emails sent to him in the last 19 days.

Any ideas on what is happening? And how we can find the emails that haven't turned up anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

I have tried everything I can find to solve my problem with no luck!Windows 7Outlook 2010I have two accounts in Outlook, one is mine and one is my husbands. Server is local internet provider through our telephone company company. I have a business and get a lot of emails daily.....many are left in my inbox so I can go back to them at another time. Here is where the problem lies! I can see emails in the morning and when I go back to these later in the day...they are missing. Usually Outlook shows today's emails, the yesterday, then next day, etc. and stay there until deleted. Well, not any more!A Dell technician has gone through every Outlook setting and cannot find the problem. The strange thing is that my husbands account is working perfectly. Runing Microsoft Office 2007 in Vista can you import outlook express emails into office outlook and be able to read emails and access outlook express address book as well.

Answer:inport outlook express emails and address book into office outlook in vista

Yes. OUTLOOK - FILE - IMPORT / EXPORT - IMPORT FROM ANOTHER PROGRAM OR FILE - OUTLOOK EXPRESS BTW - I've never tried it (I don't use Outlook Express). You can also try Exporting from Express and Importing to Outlook, though I'd guess the above method will work.

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

If it was an Outlook issue, all your email messages would be equally affected, but since only some of them are affected, they are probably damaged or corrupt. Nothing you can do about that.

Answer:how do i get emails from outlook express 6 into outlook 2007?

I don't use Outlook, but I'd think the general procedure would be to:

1: Export from Outlook Express to location X

2: Open Outlook, use the import function, and navigate to location X.

Is that what you are doing?

Can you export in more than 1 format? If so, try another format.

It's also a good idea to make manual copies of all of your Outlook Express files (dbx, etc) in case your corrupt the originals during the export/import process.

Email export and import functions haven't improved in the last 10 years, so welcome to reality. I hate changing email programs for that reason.

There are applications out there designed to convert DBX to PST, but I don't know if they are required.

I have an eight year old computer and am using Outlook Express for my emails. Recently I think I got a virus because several times my emails just get deleted for months at a time. Now my emails are getting stuck in the outbox and I have to manually go in an delete every one every time I send one. Also my sent file is gone and shows nothing in it. Can you please help! Thank you. Tobi

Answer:Help with Outlook Express emails

Hi Tobi and welcome to TSG.

Most likely is that your Sent Items folder was over-full and the DBX file corrupted.
You'll need to go into the OE Message Store folder and generate a new Sent Items.dbx.

Follow these instructions to locate and open the Message Store.

You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

In OE
Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and CLOSE OE.

Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The Store Folder containing all the DBX files should open.

Find the Sent Items.dbx and delete it. Note: If there were messages in it you wish to try recovering, MOVE it to the desktop instead of deleting it.
While in the Message Store, additionally delete the Outbox.dbx.

Open OE and try sending yourself a message.

Hello experts,

Please help.

This morning after receiving emails then close the outlook then open back again and all my emails of 3 years are gone totally.

I tried going to the Documents and setting to find the DBX files but they are not there anymore,so they are totally deleted from folder.

Can some experts guide me to recover back all the emails or is it gone forever.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Outlook Express 6 emails all gone

The OE Message Store is hidden.

Please do the following to be sure you were in the right place.

DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE DBX FILES.
The data they contain is not usable outside of the OE program and they can be easily damaged.

Let us know what you find.
Also, check in your Recycle Bin for files with a BAK extension with the same name as the folders you have in OE. For example: Inbox.bak, Sent Items.bak, etc.

Or.

I have a user who's using Outlook Express 6 to send out emails to groups. The thing is, at certain times, people who are on other groups will receive the emails not intended for them.

For example: Say we have a NJ group, a CT group and a FL group. She sends an email to the NJ group just fine. Then sends an email to the CT group, and then the FL group. Suddenly, members of the NJ group write back asking to be unsubscribed from the CT group, and the FL group... but none of the CT or FL group emails...

Here's the interesting part. I go to the email that user01 from the NJ list received of the CT group. (I know this because when he replied, it had the subject in the email...) Going into the properties, I choose to see the source for the message. Since all of these are sent out BCC, that's the only way to do it. Anyway, user01 from NJ isn't even on the list of the email he received. I wonder if this is an Outlook Express issue, or maybe something higher up? Say maybe on the server?

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I haven't had a chance to sit down with her and actually see what she's doing, but I thought that I'd ask around and see if anyone has any ideas.

TIA,
Erik

Answer:Outlook Express and too many emails

When you send mails using groups, its OE that interprets the groups and substitutes the e-mail addresses before it is actually sent to your servers. So this surely is an OE issue.

Your ISP may have an upper limit on the number of receipients per mail. Are you exceeding that limit and throwing your ISP servers off-balance?

If this has been posted already then I spologise for my repeat query, but here it is.

My friend has a laptop running Windows 2000, with OE6 running on it. Everything was working fine until Windows downloaded a new update, at which point all of his internet explorer favorites were gone and all outlook settings were back to default. No messages, contacts, nothing.

The user profiles in Documents and Settings also differ. Before, there was one profile for his account, John. Now, there's also John.E500. I have imported the emails and contacts back from his old profile to the new one, and the internet favorites, and everything worked fine.

Now, he called me this morning and said the problem had occurred again, all emails and contacts lost. Could someone who knows about OE6 please give me some advice on how to stop this from occurring?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

http://www.wintips.org/fix-outlook-...Since you are evidently receiving a large volume of emails you shouldn't really be using Outlook Express as it wasn't designed to cope with high volumes of email usually associated with an office environment. You should use Microsoft Outlook (part of Microsoft Office) or something similar that's designed to handle large volumes of email. If you want to stick with Outlook Express you need to stop saving so many messages.Go through them regularly and delete those you don't really need anymore once they have served their purpose.

When I go to the tools/options/maintenance menu, and click on Store Folder, it gives me a long path like: Cocuments & Settings\Application Data\Identities\FDEAABFF-E870...\Microsoft\Outlook Express. When I navigate to that folder outside of OE, it is empty, and I have checked "Show Hidden Files". Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

When I read an email and click delete, it is suppose to go into my DELETED folder. When I go to my DELETED folder, all it shows is the unread emails. I am sure I did this by choosing some option when I first set this up....I am new to Outlook but now I can't figure out how to undo it. I want to be able to see my 'read' emails. Thank you for any help you can give this 'older' lady.

Answer:Where are my "read' emails in Outlook 2007

Before we begin are you talking about Microsoft Outlook installed on your computer or Outlook.com the web site?

My dad recently got a new laptop to replace his five year old beast. On that five year old beast is thousands upon thousands of very important business emails and legal documents. Naturally, he needs to have access to these emails.

Due to his concerns about getting his new laptop up and running, I didn't get to do the logical thing and transfer his old emails and settings over to his new laptop before he started using it. Now, it's been over a month and his new laptop is quickly accumulating new piles of vital emails.

I need to find a way for him to read his old emails quickly and easily.

He uses Microsoft Outlook. I've got the original computer with all the emails on it as well as his new computer. Can I import his old email into Outlook on his new computer without losing any of his new email or overwriting his new settings? Failing that, is there a way for me to view his emails, as saved by Outlook in .dbx files, in plain text?

Note: this isn't a situation where I can just try something and hope it works. My dad's a lawyer and losing a single email can be roughly equivalent to the end of the world. So I'm not going to do anything experimental like trying to import his old emails just to see if it works unless someone knows for sure that it will.

Answer:Read emails in plain text without Outlook

Ah I was going to aim you at a small app that was free but now costs $5 called DBExtract as it will do exactly what you need.

http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

it recovers the emails into a text file, sadly leaves the header and footer info ( email server info etc in the text file )

Worth a look at the app anyhow, their maybe an older free version still knocking around on the net.

Using gmail today i noticed several items in my Gmail web, sent mail folder that I had not sent. They were all from me, to 4 contacts, one of whom got a majority of these messages. They appeared to be sent from Outlook, as I use IMAP, and they each had a winmail.dat file 0k, attached.

Subject said "NOT READ: fwd(etc....)
Or, others were relevent, 'NOT READ: final copy of flyer for reveiw" which i had sent the exact subject heading to this person months ago.

Last suspicious activity was sending a email in outlook to [email protected](DO NOT CLICK) responding to craigslist advertisement.

I unplugged my IMAP service until i figure this out. I had NO ANTIVIRUS CONNECTED AS I JusT RESTORED MY PC.

is it possible 'they' had acces to my very sensitive google docs? files? I changed my Gogle account password immediately, but could it be too late?

ANY HELP ADVICE ON WHAT MY NEXT STEP IS, BESIDES EMAILING MY CONTACTS AND ASKING THEM NOT TO OPEN TONGIHTS EMAILS?

I had some confidential and important email sent to me in those 3 days. I am getting worried as to what happened to them. I was wondering if anyone could offer some sort of advice to me.

Having foundf Louiek's thread, I tried SCF last night. Got a question.....a buddy of mine just bought a new computer and wants to transfer his old emails to his new box. I know how to save the emails in a .pst file in Outlook but can this also be done in Outlook Express? I havent seen his computer but I'm pretty sure he's using WinXP. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Saving Emails in Outlook Express??

There are options in Outlook Express for creating a backup, but it's a directory full of files...not as neat and clean as Outlook. You can do a search under his Documents and Settings directory for .mbx files, and that will show you the directory it's in. Move that whole directory to the same path on his new machine (assuming he uses the same user account on the new one.

I just did this for my fiancee, but I loaded Outlook first, and imported the mail into Outlook from OE. Then I made the .pst file, and convinced her to use Outlook on her new machine. This may not be an option, but if it is, go for it.

We have a computer at our office that's had trouble booting Windows XP lately. It's a machine that has basically taken 18 months of solid abuse from people using it to do everything from downloading music to installing nonsense spyware-filled toolbars from every available source, with little I can do to stop it due to it's complete accessibility by everyone. The trouble is that when booting into XP, just before the Windows screen is displayed with the scrolling progress abr, the machine will just restart and enter into a loop. I have tried the recovery console on the XP disk, using the diskcheck utility with the "fix" command attached, and it reports all bad sectors repaired, but doesn't actually solve my problem. Booting in safe mode does essentially the same thing - a long list of files loaded starts scolling through the suddenly the whole lot restarts.

I have 2 partitions on this drive, C: and D:, so I installed XP to the D: drive as a secondary copy so I could at least get IN to the machine and copy all important files off before a complete format, but my only problem is I desperately need a way to copy off all the Outlook Express emails that are stored in an account of the original XP installation on the C: drive from my new one on the D: drive. Is there anywya I can access it by stating the username and password used for the account?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Recovering Outlook Express Emails

Sorry I couldn't find an edit button - I forgot to mention that the file it sticks on when trying to boot to safe mode is iomdisk.sys. I've tried both replacing it and disabling my secondary master device in the Bios whilst the drive itself is unplugged from the board and the PSU, but I still have the same issue. It asks which copy of Windows to boot, I select the right one and it restarts

Help required to retrieve/rescue emails and addresses from outlook express.

A friend of mine had 2 computers both running XP,1 of them had a fault with the Windows registry which would not allow install/uninstall of any programs/software.This computer used Outlook Express for sending/receiving emails from their wanadoo.fr email account.

I have removed the hard drive from this machine and added it to the other newer machine, using it as a spare drive,I now have the main drive (drive C) running the OS and the old drive (drive E) as the spare.

I have the option of running Outlook Express or the better option of Outlook, what I need to do is transfer all emails and addresses from Outlook Express to either of these programs,I have set up both of these but cannot retrieve the emails that were in the inbox, drafts, sent folders etc,etc of Outlook Express when it was running on the old machine. The only message I get is the welcome email from either Outlook or Outlook Express?

Is it possible to do this and if so how?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi I am new to these boards and not sure which one covers my problem so have posted to both. I am trying to configure OUTLOOK EXPRESS to send and recieve email from my webiste email address. I have no problem receiving email but cant send any. I have the SMTP server set to smtp.uk.aol.com and had the port number as 25 (default) but when I tried to send email it was being returned by the AOL server's spam filter as being unsolicited spam. I went to the AOL live help and they told me to change the port setting to 587 but now it wont even send the email but gets this error -The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject ', Account: 'mail.kitmania.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.uk.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '505 MAIL FROM sender and AUTH username do not match', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 505, Error Number: 0x800CCC78I have been back to live help but they now say they are unable to help me unless I want to use my AOL email address. This is now good to me as I want to keep my AOL email for personal use and use the domain email address for business. I want to use OUTLOOK EXPRESS so I can add the PayPal buttons automatically for invoices.Does anyone know what I can do to get the emails to send?

Hi, my mother is pretty inept with computers but she has some important documentation on her email.
She tells me that recently she opened an email warning her of "deleting her emails" or something, now when I check it all of her inbox is gone. I upgraded her email software to live mail and imported the account but only new emails are showing up.
I looked in her storage folder and the inbox file is large (in the gb range) so it doesn't make sense to me that when I import the account that there is nothing to show for it. Why would there be data if there were no emails to show for it?
Only her inbox was affected, she still has her other folders still have their existing emails.
Thanks for any insight you might provide.

Answer:Lost emails in outlook express

Try: View > Current View and make sure "Show all Messages" is ticked (and not just Show Unread / Show New email etc.)
Also worrying that you say Inbox in the gb range, as Outlook Express has a storage limit and it tends to corrupt once you go past that size limit.
Note: the easiest way to archive emails and save them as .eml is in the email client (Outlook Express) highlight them and drag and drop into a folder you've previously created in My Documents. This creates a copy and doesn't affect the email in email client (Outlook Express / Live Mail) These .eml can be opened with a doubleclick individually without the bother of exporting and importing.

Each time I check my emails outlook express downloads the whole lot stored on the server, currently about 600. Does anybody know how I can reset it so that it only downloads the emails that have not been previously downloaded.I currently have outlook express configured to store the messages for 10 days on the server so that I can access from remote computers.I have tried from two locations and both computers keep downloading the whole lot.Any suggestions will be gratefully received as it takes a long time to keep deleting 600 messages.

Answer:outlook express downloads emails again and again

I think the omly way to do this is to go to your server, and move all the downloaded ones to a different folder on your server (via the webmail facility). Then there won't be any in your server inbox to download, but you'll still be able to view them from elsewhere by webmail.

How do you view or choose another email address in Outlook Express. My husbands email automatically comes up when Outlook Express is launched. What do I do in order to view my emails from my email address from the program?

Thank you.

Answer:Multiple emails for Outlook Express???

Hi btech..

simplest way to solve the problem would be to create Identities in Outlook Express - one for yourself and one for your husband. Upon launching the program, you will be required to log onto your profile and your emails will be displayed. However, you will need to make sure the option to 'send and receive messages at start up' is selected in order for your new mail to be downloaded when you log on. To check this:

- Open Outlook Express
- Click Tools, then Options
- Under the General tab, ensure there is a tick in the box titled 'send and receive messages at start up'
- Click Apply then OK to save your settings

To create Identities in Outlook Express:

- Open OE
- Click File, then Identities then Add New Identity
- Follow the prompts till the end of the wizard

However, the extra Identity will only help if you and your husband share the same Windows XP profile, if you both have your own, there's no point in having your own OE identity....hope that makes sense :-)

Hi- My computer was really slow and then froze on me, so I rebooted it. When I reopened Outlook Express 6, many emails were missing, but not all. I've been able to receive new emails since then. Also, the only emails were missing from my Inbox, but not from other folders in my Outlook Express.

I've researched on the internet, and it appears that my emails may have been corrupted (possibly due to McAfee). I cannot figure out how to fix the problem. Many of the resources are older and refer to a free dbx repair tool by Macallan, but the link provided no long works.

Any suggestions? I checked the recycle bin, and the bak files were dated in July 2009 (too early). I did a search for dbx files on my c drive, but I only see one inbox.dbx (some of the websites mentioned that there might be another inbox created).

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Outlook Express-saving All Emails

I've never tried what you want to do, so I don't know if this will actually work. The following is a Microsoft site concerning file corruption of Outlook Express. But you have asked where the files are stored, so this is an easy way to find them. The only section you need to be concerned with is the first one-Understanding Outlook Express Files. The directions on getting to the files are there. I suppose you could copy them to a cd or back up drive, and then after you finish with your disk, move them back to the OE file. Just make sure you write down the path to the files so you can copy them back into it. Someone else may be along with another idea for you. The info is HERE

I dont know if OE itself can crash, and Id lose everything. Im also wondering if Im overloading OE as I read somewhere that you can. Also whe I close OE it asks me do I want to compact folders as this will save space. So my questions are :1 Is there a good and easy way to store my emails safely, and is it easy to "update" that, say, weekly? I have been able (though its not too easy) to transfer emails to a USB and back on to my reformatted laptop. Using the dbx files etc, but wouldnt that be a pain to regularly update?2 Can you explain compacting folders, and how would it affect my emails?3 Should I be looking at a different programme to do all this? Many thanksKC

Connection to our ISP (Wanadoo) is fine when we start a Send/Receive. However, for some time now we have to 'resend' our password when we start the receive part. Having done this, if we go surfing and then do another send/receive we do not have to enter passwords again. Just before we went on holiday (of course!) we suddenly found that we couldn't receive e-mails any more. The pop-up box came up, we entered our password, but the box reappeared still asking for the password to be entered. Interestingly enough there is also a 'remember my password' check box which is greyed out when we start (because no password has been entered). When we enter the password this box remains greyed out (as though O.E. thinks that we haven't entered anything). This repeats itself until you give up and cancel the operation. We then get the message that an invalid user name or password hs been used. This is logical if a blank or null password has been sent to Wanadoo. We can get at our mail on the server directly through Web-mail. Wanadoo made a number of sugestions but neither worked unfortunately. There are now only a couple of small e-mails on our 'server inbox' so it can't be that a large e-mail is trying to get to us. We are up-to-date as at mid-July with Windows Home XP SP2 plus all its updates and have not installed anything immediately prior to this problem occurring. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am running Windows XP Home and I am using Outlook Express 6 for my email. It seems like I am loosing some emails. Is there a setting under "optiions" somewhere that will allow me to change when it deletes emails? I'd like it to say "never" as I don't want any emails to go away.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tech Support Guy

I cannot delete anything from anywhere in my Outlook Express a/c.
'Rollin_again' had some very good advice & I followed all of it but still can't delete any messages from any folder within O/E.
I can move the e's from one folder to another & I can delete them by closing O/E, finding the DBX files & deleting those.
Maybe that's the best I can hope for ?

Thx
Tim

Answer:Deleting emails in Outlook Express

1 Use Search and search *.dbx files on active drive; probably C:
2 Delete all you find.
3 Close Search.
4 Re-Boot.
5 Open Outlook Express.
6 Send a Test Message to Yourself.
7 When it Comes Back, See if Message Will Delete Properly.

This is a problem my son has asked me to find out about - so I wont necessarily respond quickly - he lives in another county and is even more technically illiterate than I am.He is unsing Outlook Express (Windows XP operating system. He says when he logs off and then logs on again emails are being deleted.NB I have checked his webmail and there is nothing stored there either.

Answer:Outlook Express deleting emails

Normal behaviour with Outlook Express is to connect to the mail server, check for new messages, download them and then delete them from the server. They will therefore no longer be available using webmail, but should remain in the Outlook Express "Inbox". Is this what is happening? It is possible to configure Outlook Express to leave messages on the server, so that they can be retrieved again with a different computer or accesses by webmail.

This is one of those really weird problems.

I have a PC on which I have Outlook Express as the email client.

A few days ago I noticed that I could not delete any emails that have attachments. Emails without attachments can be deleted as normal. But emails with attachments simply just sit there after being "deleted".

I am not an expert on Outlook Express as I use a Webmail client for my principal email account. So the solution could be quite simple, perhaps a setting or a tick-box or something equally embarrassingly easy.

If there are any Outlook Express experts out there I would be grateful to receive your advice.
