Can I Get My Sent GMail Emails into Outlook Express?

Question: Can I Get My Sent GMail Emails into Outlook Express?

I have always used Hotmail with Outlook Express - I can send and receive Hotmail emails from my PC. But now that Microsoft have threatened to withdraw free POP access, I have decided to try GMail.
I have got my GMail working with Outlook Express. I can download all my received emails into a folder on my PC, but I do not appear to be able to download my sent emails.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just a thought, send from Outlook Express, just have you Gmail account in the header.

I use Gmail for everything, but no longer have to log into their site - everything comes and goes from the Gmail account.

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

TY in advance. Please do help.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

I've rebooted, turned on & off Outlook. I even disconnected my Internet connection, then reconnected it. I've checked my Outlook settings and they are fine. I also turned off my ... Read more

Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

Hi All,

I use outlook for about 4 email addresses (work and personal). I also do volunteer work for a charity and have an email address for that which is a gmail account.

I have tried repeatedly to set this gmail account up in Outlook but it didn't work. The only way I have found is to have two separate outlook account where I choose if I want to open my normal account of the charity account but cannot do both at the same time.

This is very frustrating as I need to be able to see my calendar and contacts when using the charity account.

Hi, when I searched the forums for posts on Microsoft outlook I found posts in the windows and the computer software areas, a majority of the posts appeared here so I thought I'd try posting here.Okay, here's my situation: I currently have an email account with Adelphia and I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access that it account.  I setup Outlook so that when I receive the emails from the Adelphia account Outlook removes them and transfers them to Outlook (meaning a copy of the emails don't remain in my Adelphia inbox).  I've decided that I want to stop using Outlook, mainly due to the fact that it makes it difficult to access my emails from computers not on my network account.  I've decided to switch to a gmail account (for other reasons involving irritation with Adelphia). My problem is that I can't figure out how to get my emails from Outlook 2003 to my new gmail account.  I've looked in the questions and answers section, the forum, and both faq on gmail and outlook official pages and still can't figure it out.  I think I've figured out a way to redirect new incoming mail, but that's not my concern what I need is to redirect my old emails.  I know that I could just forward all of my old emails to my new gmail account, but that will be a huge hassle and the emails would then show up as being sent from me and not the original sender.  If I can't figure out another solution I'll do th... Answer:help transfering emails from outlook to gmail

I'm not absolutely sure but I doubt very much this can be done.  Think about it.  With Outlook, your mail is on your hard drive, not out on the Internet.  With Gmail, it is out on the Internet; it's web-based mail.  I looked at the info on Gmail on Google's site and, like you, found nothing about transferring mail from Outlook.  So, I no other option but to forward the mail to yourself if you really must get it all moved over to Gmail.

Hi there,

I've recently set my parents up with a Gmail account but am having problems with transferring their emails from an Outlook PST file to their new account. I've tried following the tutorial at the link below without success - mainly due to the fact that Outlook seems to be very unstable on their machine (hence the change to Gmail).

Export and Backup Emails from Outlook to Gmail Online

Are there any other ways of migrating these emails across to their new account? Note that the migration tool offered by Google does not work as the Gmail account isn't connected to Google Apps for Business.

One possible solution is that I could migrate their emails via my Google Apps for Business account though I imagine it would take forever to then forward these emails onto them (most likely manually using the Forward) option?

I use Outlook 2010 which syncs to my IMAP Gmail account.
This works very well.

Today something happening in Outlook (I might have dragged something, I don't know) and my mails (12,500 of them) ended up in Outlook's deleted items folder. Some Gmail folders just vanished, like Sent Items, Bin and Spam.

I immediately quit Oulook before it synced so all my mails are still safe on Gmail's servers. I checked via logging in to the Gmail website and also disabled IMAP to be safe.

I need some advice on how to fix the emails in Outlook.
I'm afraid that if I start syncing the mails will be lost from Gmail.
I also don't want to start a new Outlook .pst file as there are many gigs of emails to sync.

Does anyone have some advice?

Answer:deleting emails in outlook, not connecting with gmail

Depending on how you're connecting to gmail it may not be possible. I know it's not possible to delete emails on the web server if you're using an HTTP or IMAP connection. By default, most tutorials tell you to use IMAP and POP isn't enabled be default on a gmail account.

To Enable Pop in Gmail:

1. Sign in to Gmail.
2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
4. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
5. Choose what to do with your messages after they're accessed with your POP client or device.
6. Configure your POP client* and click Save Changes.

To Configure Outlook 2007 to connect via POP:

1. Enable POP in your email account. Don't forget to click Save Changes.
2. Open Outlook.
3. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
4. On the E-mail tab, click New...
5. If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, Select POP and then select Next.
6. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
7. Click Next... You're Done. (Manual Cofiguration)

OK...Running Vista Home Basic on my Dell PC...5 days ago at 9:23pm I received my last email in Outlook (2007). Computer was idle at work. No problems for 4 years until now. 2 weeks ago went with a new ISP and did not change the codes for SMTP/Pop3/Imap because it was all working the exact same way--frankly, didn't think about it. Come in and there are no new emails. Hit Send/Receive and nothing happens. NO WAY, I get 50 a day. Go to Gmail account and it stopped at the same time. Find all new messages in Trash folder then all filters were removed to see what happened next. Emails were visible on screen (inbox) after that-and still are. After that, gmail icon started showing bottom right of my screen with my incoming emails--FROM 2009/10/11! All I had deleted last year and I am sure I emtied. My Outlook number of items in Inbox continues to grow every time I hit Send/Receive, lines "bounce" on screen as if items are going to appear but they don't. I get the outlook envelope showing emails from January to March 2012 downloading along with New Items in Mailbox icon as of today. I can hit on the email as it (icon) pops up and read it but if it passes it is totally GONE! Since gmail was fixed, about 7000 emails have gone into my inbox but not one of them are visible. I feel it will continue to download until we get to the present date as it is downloading from past to present. Answer:2007 Outlook/Gmail Account --Where are my emails going??

Any chance your old ISP was Rogers?

I thought that when you use POP , your email address is hosted and stored by the ISP.
Meaning, say your ISP was called Teleweb, your email address would have been [email protected].

I'm confused as to why you did not need to change the POP settings if you changed ISPs.

Im thinking your old ISP cancelled or disabled your email account, which may be contributing to the problem.

Also Gmail is webmail, so ISPs cannot influence how Gmail behaves. Were you forwarding your mail to the gmail account?

So we have a little networking group which is a Fun non-profit thing here in Atlanta,
and we have a little over 500 names on the mailing list and counting.

What is the Best Free solution to emailing the whole mailing list all in one go?

Both Outlook and have restrictions over a certain number of email address's.
We tried, but that has restrictions also, and many of those emails end up going to our recipients junk mail folder.

We don't do any fancy invite newsletter stuff, but putting together a Microsoft Publisher mail-out would be a nice option. but we prefer the quick and simple shout-out with a few words on time and place!

Does anyone have a good solution?

in outlook 2010, i understand one can use a gmail account without actually opening up the gmail account, that is he can run the account from outlook, does that mean one can delete messages also, just like a regular account.
when i try to delete a message, it deletes it from the inbox of that gmail account in outlook 2010, but under the gmail folder it updates itself, and downloads it again, even after i delete it from the gmail folder also.

Answer:deleting gmail emails from outlook 2010 folder

Hallo tapuz, you may have to sign into your gmail account and delete all your old messages.
From there select settings in the top RH corner
Then select Forwarding & pop/imap tab
In the pop download column go to option 2 and in the drop down box select delete gmails copy
Then select save changes.
This will stop gmail saving a copy once Outlook has downloaded it to your computer.
I hope this solves your problem, if not post back

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

What outgoing (SMTP) server do you have set-up for Gmail in OE? I use (not my ISP's SMTP server)Unlike many other mail accounts, you can send through gmail servers even if you're broadband connection isn't Google (it wouldn't be, would it). Contrast this with sending a mail from a tiscali address using PlusNet as ISP - one would have to use the PlusNet SMTP server. Now, having said that, I can't say that this has anything to do with your prob. But you never know.

I recently set up my mom's gmail account to come through outlook express. We did a few test messages and everything was a-okay. A few days ago, she suddenly wasn't able to send out going messages. This is the error message she gets:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Missing Resume', Account: '', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Port 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number 0x800CCC0B

Can someone help me? TIA

Answer:gmail in outlook express, windows XP

Check your setting against the ones listed here:

Also, make sure that mom didn't accidentally change her gmail account type from POP3 to an IMAP account because IMAP accounts have a different setup.

As I have a couple of Gmail accounts, I use Outlook 2010 (running under Windows 7) to consolidate them together and use it for reading, sending and archiving all my emails.
Until recently I have been able to manage my emails without problem, but within the past few weeks I have run into problems sending emails using Outlook for my Gmail accounts. Messages are stored in my Outbook but will not send. This does not happen all of the time, only intermittently, and even if I press the send/receive button, or reboot Outlook 2010, the messages remain in the outbox.
The only way I have managed to send them is to reboot my PC and then restart Outlook - then the messages send automatically as they normally should do and the outbox is cleared. However after a while, and not on every Outlook session, the messages do not send from Outlook unless I reboot my PC again.
I have checked my email settings and as far as I can tell they are OK (as they normally work):
Incoming mail server: and port 995
Outgoing mail server: and port 465
and outgoing server set to require authentication.
I get no error messages - the emails just remain in the outbox until I reboot the PC.
Can anybody advise how I can resolve this issue?
Many thanks for your help.

It came with Office 365.

She has for many year been using Outlook Express in Windows XP.

She wants to move all of her outlook express emails (and sub folder of the Inbox) to the Outlook program on the new windows 10 computer.

Is this possible ??

I have succeed in getting her address book exported and imported but cannot find any info or instructions on how to move the emails and folders.

I do remember that some years back I did a transfer from outlook express XP email to a Windows 7 computer running outlook. But I seem to remember having to have some kind of special software to make this possible.

Can anyone tell me if I am wasting my time or is this transfer a possibility ?

She really does not want to give up all of her old emails.

I've been using outlook express to get my gmail emails for years now with no problems. In the last couple of months outlook express has got stuck at 'securing' when I try to send and receive. I think (not completely sure) that it is happening more in the late afternoon and evening, and gets stuck less often in the morning.I've tried using the gmail autoconfiguration tool for outlook express - made no difference. Can't find anything useful on the googlemail help pages. It's driving me to distraction - any suggestions gratefully received. cheers

I'm now in the interesting position of having two identical accounts set up in outlook express which are both my default account. it then started working properly, ho hummi'm not closing this thread yet as it's an intermittent fault so I'll need to see if it continues to behave.

I have an HP notebook & Dell Desktop .
I set up one Gmail Account that I wanted to have transfered to my Outlook Express (account) on both my computers.
I created an account in Gmail and set it up ok, everything transfered over alright to both computers Outlook Express accounts.
But I can only open & read the mail in the HP's Outlook Express.
When I try to read it on the Dell I cannot open the mail at all and Loading is at the top of the page & never goes away.
Can I only have the Gmail sent to one computer for me to be able to open it ?
Do I need to make the Dell's Outlook Express a different Gmail account in order for it to work so I can read the mail ?
Hope this is making sense.

I received a message that was sent to unspecified recipients and I replied byt using "reply all". I got the following error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

This has occurred in the past and I was wondering if there is some type of security thing in my mail client (gmail) or in Outlook Express. While this has occurred in the past, this time I sensed a relationship to the error message and the "unspecified recipients".

Is there some setting that I should make? When responding, don't spare words that explain why you are suggesting any particular remedy.

Also, when I receive this error message, nothing is being sent out as the outgoing messages are sent to the Outbox until I go to the Outbox and delete the offending message .

Hello: I use XP with service pack 3 and Outlook Express as my email.  My email address is at gmail and the way I set it up when I first got it, way back when gmail first started, was that when I checked my OE mail, it automatically pulls down (or whatever you call it) my new email from gmail.  For the past three days, however, this isn't happening.  My OE automatically keeps checking and I get the message that my POP is not responding--wait or cancel.  If I choose wait, nothing  happens, except that I get another message later, over and over.    I haven't changed any settings or anything. What can I do about this to get my email coming back to me automatically? I can go to the gmail site with no problem and see and respond to my mail but I like to have it in my OE so I can deal with it offline as I get a lot of mail. Thanks for your help.

I've been using outlook 2007 to send and recieve emails for the past 3 years or so (recieving from my website's pop server, and sending through gmail --- my website's domain has been flagged for spamming). Last week, I started getting this error message as I noticed that emails aren't being sent:

"none of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server"

I've tried double checking my login info, server settings, firewall, and even tried sending emails over a different network (work, home, starbucks..etc). I also changed the port number and security type as advised by gmail's troubleshooting...

Anyone have a hint for me???

I have set up my Gmail within Outlook Express. All is well. However, though I have chosen the option to purge all deleted mail in IMAP folders on exit within Options | Maintenance, it is just not happening. I am in the All Mail view.

Answer:Gmail within Outlook Express - deleted messages not purging

I just recently set up a Gmail IMAP account in Outlook Express (OE), so I haven't used OE for this account much yet.  Like you, I have OE set to "Purge deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders".  What I've observed is that the "deleted" messages appear with a line through them immediately after "deleting" them.  They remain that way until I close AND reopen OE.  Yep, I see them still there immediately after re-opening OE but they then disappear with a few seconds.  Could this be what is actually happening in your system?

i can copy the pst and dbx files but are these the right ones and wht ever i seem to do i can get outlook 2007 to import the emails

thank you in advance

Answer:how do i get emails from outlook express 6 into outlook 2007?

I don't use Outlook, but I'd think the general procedure would be to:

1: Export from Outlook Express to location X

2: Open Outlook, use the import function, and navigate to location X.

Is that what you are doing?

Can you export in more than 1 format? If so, try another format.

It's also a good idea to make manual copies of all of your Outlook Express files (dbx, etc) in case your corrupt the originals during the export/import process.

Email export and import functions haven't improved in the last 10 years, so welcome to reality. I hate changing email programs for that reason.

There are applications out there designed to convert DBX to PST, but I don't know if they are required.

A co-worker was on a service call recently, and was berated by the client because he didn't know how to merge the PST file from an established Outlook account (it was not originally set up with a Gmail account) into a newly created Gmail account. To top this off, the Outlook account was barfing up the error "the PST file is too large" and it couldn't be accessed via regular means. Is it even possible to take everything from an established (and somewhat messed up) Outlook email account and move it all in to a new Gmail account?

Secondly, he didn't know off-the-top-of-his-head the POP/SMTP settings and port numbers (if needed) to get Outlook to work with a Gmail address. He started to look up this info online, and the client again berated him for being uninformed, and that he was "learning on the job at her expense". All this nastiness from the client aside, what are the POP/SMTP and port settings for Gmail in Outlook or Outlook Express?

Answer:Gmail & Outlook/Outlook Express

Not sure if this will help any. It's been awhile since I have set up Outlook to work with Gmail or vice versa. :-o

I have a user who's using Outlook Express 6 to send out emails to groups. The thing is, at certain times, people who are on other groups will receive the emails not intended for them.

For example: Say we have a NJ group, a CT group and a FL group. She sends an email to the NJ group just fine. Then sends an email to the CT group, and then the FL group. Suddenly, members of the NJ group write back asking to be unsubscribed from the CT group, and the FL group... but none of the CT or FL group emails...

Here's the interesting part. I go to the email that user01 from the NJ list received of the CT group. (I know this because when he replied, it had the subject in the email...) Going into the properties, I choose to see the source for the message. Since all of these are sent out BCC, that's the only way to do it. Anyway, user01 from NJ isn't even on the list of the email he received. I wonder if this is an Outlook Express issue, or maybe something higher up? Say maybe on the server?

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I haven't had a chance to sit down with her and actually see what she's doing, but I thought that I'd ask around and see if anyone has any ideas.

Disclaimer: yes, it sounds like we're spammers, but no, we aren't. It's direct mail, and opt-in, and it only goes to a certain group of professionals (lawyers) who want our services. </disclaimer>

Answer:Outlook Express and too many emails

When you send mails using groups, its OE that interprets the groups and substitutes the e-mail addresses before it is actually sent to your servers. So this surely is an OE issue.

Your ISP may have an upper limit on the number of receipients per mail. Are you exceeding that limit and throwing your ISP servers off-balance?

Hello experts,

Please help.

I tried going to the Documents and setting to find the DBX files but they are not there anymore,so they are totally deleted from folder.

Can some experts guide me to recover back all the emails or is it gone forever.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Outlook Express 6 emails all gone

The OE Message Store is hidden.

Please do the following to be sure you were in the right place.

You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

Click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and close OE.

Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The Store Folder containing all the DBX files should open.

The data they contain is not usable outside of the OE program and they can be easily damaged.

Let us know what you find.
Also, check in your Recycle Bin for files with a BAK extension with the same name as the folders you have in OE. For example: Inbox.bak, Sent Items.bak, etc.

If this has been posted already then I spologise for my repeat query, but here it is.

My friend has a laptop running Windows 2000, with OE6 running on it. Everything was working fine until Windows downloaded a new update, at which point all of his internet explorer favorites were gone and all outlook settings were back to default. No messages, contacts, nothing.

The user profiles in Documents and Settings also differ. Before, there was one profile for his account, John. Now, there's also John.E500. I have imported the emails and contacts back from his old profile to the new one, and the internet favorites, and everything worked fine.

Now, he called me this morning and said the problem had occurred again, all emails and contacts lost. Could someone who knows about OE6 please give me some advice on how to stop this from occurring?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Cannot see emails: Outlook Express DBX 2GB you are evidently receiving a large volume of emails you shouldn't really be using Outlook Express as it wasn't designed to cope with high volumes of email usually associated with an office environment. You should use Microsoft Outlook (part of Microsoft Office) or something similar that's designed to handle large volumes of email. If you want to stick with Outlook Express you need to stop saving so many messages.Go through them regularly and delete those you don't really need anymore once they have served their purpose.

Answer:Help with Outlook Express emails

Hi Tobi and welcome to TSG.

Most likely is that your Sent Items folder was over-full and the DBX file corrupted.
You'll need to go into the OE Message Store folder and generate a new Sent Items.dbx.

Follow these instructions to locate and open the Message Store.

Find the Sent Items.dbx and delete it. Note: If there were messages in it you wish to try recovering, MOVE it to the desktop instead of deleting it.
While in the Message Store, additionally delete the Outbox.dbx.

Open OE and try sending yourself a message.

Same emails clogging my OE.
5-6 of the same emails are coming in.
How do I stop this?

Answer:(Outlook Express 6) 5 -6 Same emails

There is a few ways.

Block the senders.

Click the message (DO NOT OPEN E-MAIL OR ATTACHMENTS) the go up to message, block sender.

Get a program to do it.
I personally don't like them but I know many people here use them and they work.

Hi Tech Support Guy

I cannot delete anything from anywhere in my Outlook Express a/c.
'Rollin_again' had some very good advice & I followed all of it but still can't delete any messages from any folder within O/E.
I can move the e's from one folder to another & I can delete them by closing O/E, finding the DBX files & deleting those.
Maybe that's the best I can hope for ?

Answer:Deleting emails in Outlook Express

1 Use Search and search *.dbx files on active drive; probably C:
2 Delete all you find.
3 Close Search.
4 Re-Boot.
5 Open Outlook Express.
6 Send a Test Message to Yourself.
7 When it Comes Back, See if Message Will Delete Properly.
