Hotmail (via Outlook Express 6) mail delay/failure when sending to Yahoo and Hotmail

Question: Hotmail (via Outlook Express 6) mail delay/failure when sending to Yahoo and Hotmail

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

Preferred Solution: Hotmail (via Outlook Express 6) mail delay/failure when sending to Yahoo and Hotmail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows XP Professional, 512MB RAM, Outlook Express 6.0.For the last few weeks, my OE can't seem to send my emails to any users with yahoo.co.uk or hotmail.com addresses.  ALL such messages come back with delivery errors from the Mail Delivery Subsystem.  Start of error message reads:  The following addresses had permanent fatal errors.  Message also sometimes contains: Deferred Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours  This has only developed recently, and I have not knowingly added any new software or made major changes for some time.PLEASE can someone help with this?  It is important that I am able to send to yahoo & hotmail users asap.  Thanks.  Barry

Answer:Outlook Express not sending to Yahoo & Hotmail addresses

Outlook is able to send emails to non yahoo or hotmail addresses right? If that is the case I don't think the problem is with Outlook Express. It is more likely to be either a problem with your email provider or with Yahoo and Hotmail. I suggest you contact your email provider and ask them if they're having problems.

For only the last week or so my mail has been staying on the Hotmail server and is not sent to my Outlook mailbox. As far as I know I haven't changed any settings or anything. When this started happening, I would get the occasional one or two emails come through and not the usual 20 - 40. Now they are all sitting on the Hotmail server when I go through from Internet Explorer.

I use a MacBook Air OS X.

thanks

Can anyone tell a learner in simple terms please if it is possible for me to set up my Outlook Express to receive and send Yahoo mail Also maybe Hotmail?
Heard you have to pay.

Yup, you heard right. If you had Hotmail/Outlook Express before October, then you would still have it. But any new hook-ups require paying.

I am having some trouble with my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. I can open mail in Yahoo but can't delete it. I can't even open any email at Hotmail. It seems when I click on a button online the browser doesn't go anywhere. I tried various things suggested in this forum but nothing seems to work. Please help me. My computer is working great now that you guys helped me last week. I am extremely grateful!!

Answer:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Hi
Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

I have been using BT for my emails for years now and never had problems using their yahoo.co.uk for web-mail and outlook 2007 on my computer. Following BT not using yahoo anymore and now just using BT Mail I installed the Hotmail Outlook Connector, so I can use outlook.com as web-email. I created a Mapi account in Outlook and copied all my contacts into it. I also created some additional send/receive e-mail addresses in outlook.com, they are BT sub accounts. They are showing up in both outlook.com and outlook 2007.
The problem I have that outlook.com and outlook 2007 will not send emails.
They either are stuck in the outbox or they come back with the following messages. The first one tells me "not to resend" as the mail is delayed.
1. FW: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Then I get delivery report saying the email cannot be delivered.
2. This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.
Alternatively, I get
3. This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Answer:Outlook 2007 not sending mail after installing the Hotmail Outlook Connector

If you have installed Outlook connector then you are not using outlook.com via webmail but are using Outlook 2007 for it. Webmail is through your browser. You should not be having any problems sending via the browser. You can also log into BT using the browser and send.
But coming back to your original problem I'm not sure why you set up a MAPI account or how you did it and the problem may well lie there. Suggest that you delete the hotmail/outlook account in Outlook and start again. You can back up the received emails first. The Outlook.com account should be an Exchange Activesync type.

I've just found out that I can't send mail using my Hotmail account to other Hotmail addresses but can recieve mail OK. It will send to my btinternet.com address and to gmail etc. and even back to myself at hotmail. By trial and error I've found it was my signature I was adding ( a gif). Deleting this solved the problem. Hope this can help anybody else who's had a problem recently.

Have WindowsXP Service pack2 (laptop Dell Inspiron 6000) for 2 years recently signed with Bell Sympatico ISP...now I discover that I cannot continue with my old hotmail account without installing Windows Defender (I did) and then going for info to... HTTP.//join.msn.com/general/Email...Then googled this and found hundreds of confused entries. Apparently you have to PAY now to use your Outlet Express to access Hotmail...This they tell you on the last line of the agreement. Question: Can I get around this requirement? I do not trust MSN anymore and hesitate downloading a more recent version of IE. any suggestions??

Answer:Outlet Express & sending Hotmail FREE??

That has been the case with hotmail for some time now - also yahoo charge to.

If you want a new account, try gmail (googlemail )its a great system and you can use outlook/outlookexpress with it for free to

I think you can just sign up at google these days , you used to need an invitation, if you want an invitation, PM me with your first Name, last Name and an Emaill address and i'll invite you

I don't know if Norton scanned the email during the full scan...or if I'm just doing something wrong. Any help would be great

I normally use outlook express for mailing and when I want to send a picture I can drag and drop it to the email. As I cannot send via OE i am using Hotmail to send (i can receive ok) but if I drag and drop to hotmail the message and attachment open in OE and, of course, it wont send. I have an engineer coming next week but would like to send attachments sooner. can anyone tell me how to attach to hotmail please. It`s a bit beyond my limited knowledge. Meshuga.

Answer:Sending attachments in mail using Hotmail.

When composing your message click the Attach button (paperclip Icon), select File. On the next screen, click the Browse button, navigate to find the file, click on it then on the Open button. Then click "OK" or "OK and add another".Finally, click Send.

What is your recommended action when your hotmail is sending spam mail to everyone?
i heard Skype associating hotmail can be one at fault, probably some bot.
(closing hotmail account might not work either)

Sounds like 4 tracking cookies were at fault,
discovered after trying another antispyware other than Malwarebytes.
(what i find weird is: how could these tracking cookies not be removed by ccleaner)

Answer:Hotmail sending spam mail

I doubt that tracking cookies were to blame.

CCleaner will leave cookies that are associated with your Favorites/Bookmarks if you tell it to.

If the SPAM was sent to those that you have listed in your Hotmail account contacts, then it sounds like someone or something gained access to that account. One solution might be to change your password and not keep contacts in the account. Keep contacts in a separate document - then copy/paste as needed. I know that is not convenient, but it has worked for some users that I support. (They came up with the idea. I did not suggest it to them. It has worked for them.)

The more e-mails people forward around, the greater the chances are that their e-mail address will be harvested. (But that does not give the bad guys your list of ALL contacts - unless you forwarded something to ALL contacts.) Sometimes you will see a list of e-mail addresses in the body of the forwarded e-mail. Some e-mail forwards bounce around for years. If the e-mail passes thru a compromised e-mail server, then those e-mail addresses can get harvested. SPAM can be sent using any/all of those harvested e-mail addresses as the fake/spoofed sender address.

You might want to create a post in the security sub-forum and let them help you scan your computer.

Ok hi.

I have this weird issue when I try to send e-mails using Hotmail.

I think this just started happening a few weeks ago.

I mainly use Firefox for my internet browser.

But when I use MSN messenger and it alerts me that I received an e-mail if I click on that link then it opens it up in a Internet Explorer page.

Anyways I can read all the e-mails other people send me fine.

But when I reply or even create an e-mail from scratch to send sometimes it sends with NO TEZT! All the text dissapears and all the people get is a message with a subject and no text.

This actually occurs weather I use Firefox or Internet Explorer.

My theory is that when I click to compose and email or reply sometimes the page will load with errors and PLUS the tool bar for editing my message (with like larger text, colour, emoticons, etc) will: A.) Not show up!! or B.) No VISIBLE icons will show up but there will be a section for tool options and if i click on an area it will let me do the operation but I can't see it until i click on it!
so please, please tell me what might be the issue and how I can fix this.

and if you need anymore info let me know!

Thank you very much.

I?m sending out junk mail such as :
Be lazy, double your cash Howdy! I have a story to share with you, its about a not known town single mother who lost her job in 2009 and found a way to make enough in 2010 to buy a house of her own for her kids.
She was on the news a couple of times, but never shared with anyone how she actually managed it. This person was a well known friend of the family who relieved her secrets to me later on last july because I was in a tough break-up and I just bought a new scion last month with the cash I made.
She changed though, we're no longer friends so i've decided to share her secret with everyone. She did me dirty so i'm returning the favor ;) Anyways, she made around $4600 a month on a SLOW month.
I made around 2800 doing lazy work in the beginning, now I average 6100 a month. Ha!suggest you follow my path and roll in the hard money in 2011! get on n
Question - How i can cancel sending out junk mail ? it?s automatic and sends e-mails like this every day .

Iam allowed to login, but as soon as either email homepage displays, I am booted out and resirected to a spyware search page, as if I were searching for spyware blocking downloads. This only happens with these 2 pages?!?!?

I am running on Windows XP, IE 6.0. I have SpyBlocs 2.0 on my system. Didn't have any problems until last night.

Answer:cannot access hotmail or yahoo mail

i can almost guarantee that you've (ironically) got spyware/adware that is messing with IE. i've had several problems with these wares when i go to certain websites and then get directed to some unknown search engine.

i'd recommend downloading ad-aware 6 and spy-bot search and destroy

i'm sure they'll catch something

I'm having loads of problems with my PC, too many to mention here. It all started a few weeks ago when I could not sign in to my Hotmail account. I panicked and started to uninstall firewalls, BT security centre etc. but to no avail. I then found I could not re-install them. So at the moment I can log in to MSN but not Hotmail. The same applies to BT Yahoo. I'm sure it is something to do with IE6. I had Spybot search and destroy also, which I un-installed. I tried to re-install it, but it failed (IE did not recognise the publisher) any ideas?

lowered security settings

This happens in both firefox and IE

I use Outlook 2002 and Word 2002 as my e-mail editor. Whenever I send a message (HTML format) to a hotmail account it adds extra line spacing when it reaches the other end. I do not get the same problem if I don't use Word as my e-mail editor. Does anyone know how to fix this? It mainly seems to happen with hotmail, but also some other e-mail accounts.

OS - Windows XP
Browsers: IE7 & Firefox

Don't know exactly when this began but, within the last couple weeks, on my home PC (HP Pavillion)... I get either of the following message types "Active X is not enabled" or "you must enable Active Scripting to view this page etc." when browsing to various sites or web pages...

This happens on the following sites - all of which were functioning fine for the last 3-4 months since installing IE7.

MSN Hotmail - I can not even log in now... tells me Active scripting or Active X not enabled
Yahoo mail - the latest version not beta - now I can only login to their old email version.
Windows Update - web site - tells me I don't have Active X enabled so I can't view the page.

Here's a run down on the history and what I have tried so far---

--I have not made any recent changes to OS and since this occured I even uninstalled the last SP to see if that helped to no avail...
--I have made sure all my internet options settings have Active scripting enabled and Active X...
--I even went as far as adding each of these sites to my "trusted Sites" which made no difference either
--Re-verified all my tools/ internet options settings and rebooted etc.. repeatedly now
--Assumed it was something messed up with IE7 - so I installed FireFox and began browsing with Firefox - rebooted to be safe and... still the exact same errors
--Based on the above it appears NOT to be the Browser since I am not even... Read more

So I did a quick Google, and it looks like the only way to sync one's Yahoo Mail account to Apple's Mail.app is to upgrade to the paid version to allow POP access. Is there any work around to get my Yahoo e-mail to sync up with Mail.app without upgrading that I've missed in my searched?

Also, I know there was a plug-in for Mail that worked with Tiger to sync up a Hotmail (or Windows Live, I guess now) mail account to Mail.app, but I couldn't find the plug-in up and running with Leopard, is there one? Or is there another way to get my Windows Live mail account synced with Mail?

Any help would be appreciated?

Dear all

For the past 12 days I haven't been able to access neither one account from yahoo! nor another one from hotmail.com. Coincidently both are my main e-mail accounts . Each problem started within a few hours from each other, and I hadn't done anything to the laptop's system configuration or changed my internet connection's specifications, anything.

What happens is the following:

At www.hotmail.com: Using IE 6.0:
(1) type name and password,
(2) a little window appears, stating: "You are about to view pages over a secure connection. Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the Web."
(3) Press OK
(4) the browser is blank, and stays like that
With Netscape 7.2 it's completely ok, though.

At yahoo.com:
(1) type name and password

With IE 6.0:
(2) a white-background page appears, full of black characters of all sorts.

With Netscape 7.2:
(2) a little window appears with the message "The file "login" is of type application/octet-stream, and Netscape does not know how to handle this file type. This file is located at: http://e1.f611.mail.yahoo.com/ym/
What should Netscape do with this file?
Open it with the default application
Open it with (waiting for a programs' name)
Save it to disk"

In both hotmail and yahoo! cases, the problem only happens with my laptop and at home, as in uni's computer labs or anywhere else I've tried it's ok. Relaxing IE's secur... Read more

Thought I would share an unusual problem.About 6 months ago I no longer was able to reply to any emails in Yahoo while using Interent Explorer, The rest of Yahoo Mail works fine, I can read emails, move them, compose new ones, but when I click to reply to an email, I get a weird screen that is mostly blank.Prior to that I could not log in to Hotmail with Internet Explorer at all anymore, Could not get the login page to ever even load on my puter. Can you access these with Sygate turned off?

Hey! What's up?

So, I set up a limited account for my roommate on my computer, but for some reason, she can't sign into hotmail or Yahoo mail - it doesn't matter which browser she uses (IE or Firefox), all she gets when she enters her email addy and password is "This page cannot be displayed" (in IE) or "Unable to connect" in Firefox.

I tried my email addresses and got the same thing. I have no problem signing into Myspace or Livejournal or any other password-accessible sites, I have no problem surfing the internet, and I have no problem signing into my email using MY account on XP (which is an administrator account). But for some reason, those sites will not allow us to check our email on a limited account.

Any thoughts? Thanks for your feedback.

Hi,

I realise that this post has been on many forums and that the answer should be already out there, but i have tried most of the suggestions and i'm at a bit of a loss!

I have been experiencing problems accessing some websites, for example:
- www.microsoft.com (stays on 'opening page' in status bar)
- mail.yahoo.com
- www.hotmail.com (continue appears on title bar but no page appears)
- MSN messenger (will not sign in, too busy error)
- Opera browser shows same problems
- Barclays online banking service

my PC is a fujitsu simens Amilo M laptop with the following spec:
- 1.7 Ghz centrino processor
- 512MB ram
- SCSI HDD
- Internet access via wireless router and ADSL connection through AOL
- MTU for ADSL connection >1400
- Windows XP Pro with SP2 and fully updated on windows update
- Internet explorer v6.0.2900.2180 sp2
- All internet explorer add ons turned off
- MTU for adapter used >1400

I have read several similar posts on other forums and followed their advice, but to no avail.

I have so far tried:
- Spyware checks (microsoft antispyware, ad aware, spybot) all clear
- virus checked (antivir fully updated)
- Increased MTU for both router and wireless net card
- Ping for www.microsoft.com 100% loss
- Ping for www.google.com 0% loss ~60ms average
- System restore to a working time (unsucessful)
- Cleared browser cache and cookies
- Added www.microsoft.com etc to trusted zones

Hi.
I have not been here in a while as I have been pretty much problem free..
Until yesterday..
When I went to sign in to my windows live account, It said something to the effect that my account was blocked because of reports of spam activities.
It advised me to change my password, which I did, set up mobile phone number verification, which I did (again ), and lastly, changed my secret question.

Then i was able to login and i looked in my hotmail to see if there was any suspicious activities left behind by a hacker.
There did not seem yo be any indication that things were disturbed.
As my hotmail has no contact list, there were only meassages from the hotmail team ect.
As I primarily use yahoo mail to get my messages, I use skydrive primarily to archive and share Big files that I cant send in email.
My problem is that my hotmail thinks it my yahoo mail, because when I signed up for skydrive/windows live, that is the email address I used to set up hotmail.

Is this right?
I sent a test e mail to my yahoo from hotmail to see what my actual hotmail asddress was..
It says it's yahoo mail, my yahoo mail. even in the headers it says it was sent from yahoo, my yahoo mial.

so I thought that would be the end of it.

Today I logged in to hotmail and see that there are a bunch of messages in my sent folder.
Also messages to people i have previosuly sent mail to in hotmail. I looked at the messges, and they all said something like this:
how are things start a new life today <... Read more

I ran AD-Aware se, AVG antiVirus, and the AntiVirus program that is furnished of my Cable ISP. My system is clean. Before the free software I had on my computer NortonSystemWorks 2003, and NAV2003. Uninstalled Norton thru Add&Remove but still have some of Norton in the Program files.

(2) From teh START menu I have RUN. Then my Search when I try to access to open it, its blank I have no way to search files and folders.

(3) I also have AOL, (uninstalled from my computer) but over the weekend when I would try to launch the AOL sign on screen it would only initialize and never give me the place for screen name and password. (I called AOL they told me to uninstall AOL 9.0 and install AOL 8.0 and use it for a coupel weeks and that might clear up my problem.
Thats when i started useing Hotmail and Yahoo mail.

Can anyone help with my problem with MSN because I also can't use Windows Update because it won't' open either.

Thanks
George

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Hotmail Connector unable to connect to Hotmail

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

I guess this question has been asked before, (sorry), but how can I be notified and to view my Hotmail e-mail from my Outlook Express?

Answer:Hotmail to Outlook Express

For Notification, I believe the only way to receive it would be with MSN Messenger.

As for actually checking Hotmail email with OE, that's not a problem at all.

In OE, goto tools-accounts-mail tab-add-mail-

set your display name
set your email address (use hotmail address of course

switch incoming mail server to http
switch the http mail service provider to hotmail

fill in your username (your hotmail email address)
fill in your password
check "remember password"

and then you are done with that part

let OE download the folders from hotmail.

then in the OE folders pane, right click on hotmail and go to properties.

Then you must decide if you want your hotmail account to be checked everytime you check your other email if you have another email.

If you only want to check your hotmail when you manually click to receive it, then uncheck "included this account when receiving or synchronizing"

Then you are done with that part.

Now go back to the OE folders pane and left click on hotmail.

uncheck the syncronization boxes for all folders.

Now if you want to check your hotmail email, click on the little arrow next to the send/recv button and select hotmail.

You should be set then.

The problem is that I can only check one hotmail account while I have three of them. The strange thing is that on my laptop I can access all three with no problems. I can't see any difference in the settings.
Can anyone help to find out what could the cause be?

I would like to check my Hotmail account from Outlook Express. Since they're from the same company, I figured it would be easy. Wrong! When I open tools...accounts...new... and follow through with the requested information, it eventually asks if I want POP3/HTML/etc. I pick HTML and then it asks for the address of the POP3 server. I try inputing the URL for hotmail, but it fails when sending/receiving. Has anyone configured Outlook Express to do this????

Answer:Outlook Express & Hotmail

What version of Outlook Express are you using? I recommand version 5 or 5.1. After selecting HTML you should select Hotmail, the POP3 option should be grayed out.

Is there a way to view Hotmail in Outlook Express which is my mail manager? I can't seem to find any information how to do it.

Regards....Margaret

Answer:Hotmail in Outlook Express

The last time I checked, if you have a free Hotmail account, it only permits web browser access and Outlook Express will not work with it. The paid Hotmail accounts did permit POP3/SMTP access with any e-mail client.

I have recently formatted my hard drive and am now having problems with outlook express. Before, I could download and send emails from my hotmail account via Outlook and I have never paid for a yearly subscription to hotmail. Now, I am using the same settings but it is failing to log in to my account and constantly asking to verify my user name and password. All the FAQ's in hotmail suggest that I need to shed out ?14.99 a year for this privilege. Is there any other way around this as it was working perfectly fine last week?

Answer:Hotmail In Outlook Express

Hi jimmie1978,Follow the instructions in This Micro$oft article and Hotmail will be working fine again.

Answer:hotmail:outlook express

Hotmail is known as "web-based email". That means they "store" your email account on the internet.

Outlook Express is an email program that is designed to "store" your email on your PC.

Do you have an internet service provider.

Hi

I have recently added my hotmail acccount to my version of OE (5.5) with no difficulty, using Tools - Accounts - Add

In trying to repeat this for a friend I found that although she also uses Win98, and the same versions of IE (5.0) and OE (5.5) as I do I was unable to succeed. The screen in OE which asked if you wished to retain the same internet connection did not appear on her system and if I selected HTTP and entered Hotmail it then says that this is not a valid server.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and how to get round the problem.

Thanks
Mccubs

OE with Hotmail is working just fine.

You can try one thing. Remove the Hotmail account and re-configure OE for hotmail.

You can do this from Tools > Accounts.

Hi!
OK, this is not a huge problem, but it's driving me nuts for quite some time.
Ever since I've changed my ISP, my Outlook Express (version 5) won't download emails from my hotmail account.
I've double checked my network settings, which must be right as Outlook has no problem downloading from my local server.
When tryimg for hotmail, I get this this error message:
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp',Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Bad Request', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC31
Please Help!!!

I was told by MS that the protocol would be changed so that I would not be able to send/receive hotmail emails after 30 June, and I should use Windows Live Mail. Well I have not DL it, and OE is still working OK with hotmail. Please let me know if you are finding hotmail is still working for you? Thanks David

Answer:OUTLOOK EXPRESS & HOTMAIL

I thought mine was continuing to work after the deadline, but it stopped yesterday pm (3 July). OE still appears to check Hot-mail, and reports No Messages even when there are - so it doesn't report an error. I guess they are "switching people off" in stages?

Microsoft have just told me that it will no longer be possible to access Hotmail via Outlook Express from 30 june 2008.They've proffered Windows Live Mail as an alternative.Anyone using it already as a preference?

Answer:Hotmail/Outlook Express

In theory Windows Live Mail is a good idea. However, to me the biggest drawback is that the Contacts (mail recipients) are merged into one file, so if you have mail accounts for specific purposes, you will have to set up a convoluted grouping system. The grouping was too labour-intensive for me to do so I have stuck with my years-old multi-systems. I also found that there is a lot of messing around if you use different signatures for different accounts.

I've gotten mixed results in trying to determine if Hotmail is still compatible with Outlook Express.

I configured Outlook express to communicate with a Hotmail account and it worked well for several of weeks. Then after that it began erroring out. It just quit working all of a sudden and in fact did so right after two forwarded emails went to the 'outbox' and never left.

With one last attempt yesterday, OE downloaded 3 emails from Hotmail then errored out again. It still did not send out the 2 emails in the outbox.

Then I decided to remove the Hotmail account from OE. I hit the remove button and all of a sudden it downloaded all the emails in the Hotmail Inbox. After that the link was severed.

What is the reality of the matter? I don't want to spin anymore wheels on this but I would like to be able to use OE. It is the only client I know of that will link Windows Fax and Picture Viewer to attached photos.

Not being very wise in the field of e-mails, I need a second e-mail address to be able to use a freebie on both my main PC and my laptop. Same user ID won't be accepted on both!
Can I send & receive the startup mails using hotmail? That will probably be the only time I will use it as my b/band ISP gives me a full user name and p/word facility.
Hope this makes sense?
Docusk

Answer:Hotmail & Outlook Express

You can send and receive email with Hotmail, as soon as you set up an account. To keep the email address, you have to login to it at least once a month, or it will automatically be cancelled.
I hope this helps with your question.

I'm just curious as to why OE doesn't have the Junk Mail function like Hotmail? They're both Microsoft programs. Wouldn't that solve a lot of the junk mail problems for OE users? I mean it's so easy to use and it's very effective. Does any one have any thoughts on that?
