Here's one for you Outlook gurus. I have talked to a lot of people about this (including 2 Outlook trainers), and they cannot figure it out. I am about at the end of my rope...

Here's the challenge:

A new entry is put into the Outlook 2000 calendar (double click on the time of the event.)
In that window, there is a drop down menu, which is marked "show time as." In that drop down menu, "busy" is chosen.

After the entry is completed and saved, that date does NOT show in bold, on the calendar pane. Instead, there is a grey box around that date.
When clicking on the "attendee availability" tab, the newly entered calendar event, does not even show up. I know the event has been saved, as it DOES show up in the calendar pane (with a grey box around it - not bolded, as it should be.)

Now, here is the weird part-
The entries that I am having problems with, were done in the last week or so. If I enter one right now, it will appear correctly. This only seems to be happening with older dates I have already entered.
Also, if the "show time as" drop down menu is set to "out of office", saved, then set back to "busy", the date will now show correctly.
This is a community calendar which is used by more than one person.

This problem is causing events to be scheduled at the same time, as Outlook is not recognizing when events have already been scheduled for certain dates.

A couple of variables:
1. The PC was recently moved to a new domain. Sync errors appear sometimes when Outllok is used.
2. One person uses his cellular phone/PDA to download info from the calendar. He does not make any changes to the calendar through that device, that I know of.

I am just looking to make those dates show/act correctly. Re-entering all of the dates (A LOT!) is going to take forever.

Is this some kind of bug, etc?
Any ideas?

I have Windows XP and am using Office 2007. A week ago my Outlook calendar started showing the wrong date. Today is showing as 11/13/09 and it's 11/19/09. My inbox is grouping my email in "Next week" (It should list it as "today"). All todays outgoing email is dated 11/13/09 on the receiver's end (so my clients don't think they've received it because their email program is filing it under 11/13/09. All incoming email has the right date on it. My sent file has the wrong date. This is bizarre! Please somebody help me.....

I have installed Outlook (which looks more like OE than Live mail, perhaps) and started using it. I am fairly happy. The only thing that bugs me is that it starts up with two windows and two tabs, one of which is the calendar functionality. I can close that down again but it is a pain. Is there a way of executing Outlook so that only Inbox appears? I want to disable the calendar completely and never see it again.

I use an online, cloud computing, calendar since I have many computers and waiting for calendars to synchronise is something I can do without.

Am using OUtlook 2003 and wondered whether there is a way to simultaneously view the Calendar and Contacts folders on one screen. Thanks.

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but you could open two instances of Outlook and size the screens so that you could view both windows next to each other.

Recently I've been getting the following error each time i launch Nero"This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the problem"any ideas what can be causing it and a possible solution??

Hello All - I ran into an issue where Outlook 2010 (Calendar) does not show certain options for a Calendar Event. Meeting that has been received and accepted, when opened does not have option of "Respond" and once that button is clicked drop down menu should display "Reply, Reply All... Reply with IM, etc."

Here is the screen-shot of it and how it is supposed to look like.. just not seeing it on my computer:
Note: I did notice when someone schedules an appointment in Calendar this option is not available; but other meeting invites co-worker of mine does have and I don't. Complete the same environment, same machines, same OS image (W7 64-bit Enterprise - company computers). Also, company IT is looking into this and so far they have not been able to find the culprit of this issue.

Means you are missing the section (Change Response) through which a user can accept or decline events or Outlook appointments.

This issue arises when the following data file exists in the Windows Registry (with the values):

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

DWORD: DisableResponseButtons
Value: 1

Use the given "Fix it for me" solution provided by Microsoft.

Using Windows 7 Enterprise Edition (64 bit) and Office 2010. When dragging a message from mail to the Calendar (in the lower left under the folder list) to create a new meeting/appointment, the calendar dialog will "pop under". How do I get the calendar dialog box to grab focus?

On our domain environment we use Exchange and Outlook 2003. A user brought up an issue that seems to be affecting me and probably everyone else, now that I look at it.

At random, some users will show //////////////////// lines with "no information". This is completly random, and it does not even cover the whole time span. It's in gaps, while other times it's the whole line. It's random on a per user bassis.

I googled this and it seems to be a big issue yet I have not found any working solution. Has anyone seen this before and been able to fix it?

I know this question isn't explicitly WP, but it's definitely related.
Here's my scenario. Several months ago myself and members of my family stopped receiving "accepted" notifications when we accept each others calendar/meeting invitations. We are all using your standard hotmail/
What used to happen was I could create a calendar event on my windows phone (my old hotmail is my MS account) and I could add attendees - usually my family members. They would receive the email, and would select accept from the reply options on their WP. It would then add the calendar entry to their calendar and I would receive an email notification that they had accepted.
I no longer receive this notification. The other members of my family experience the same issue when sending their own calendar invites from their WPs.
I tested sending and accepting invites strictly using's web interface from my PC and I experience the same problem.
I suspect this is a setting on but I have been unable to find it.
Does anyone else experience this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? Calendar - Meeting organizer not receiving "accepted/declined" etc notifications

I don't see anything about notifications of accepted/declined in Share calendars in - Help
I never even knew that feature was ever available. However, I've been using desktop Outlook for the past 7 years, not web-based email.

Hi: I want to add the Notes field to a Category view of appointments.

I managed to get the Notes field showing by using the Field Chooser, and picking Notes from the All Appointment Fields list.

I later removed the Notes column by dragging it off the bar with column names, and now can't get it back again.

I've looked in the Field chooser, but Notes no longer appears in the All Appointments fields list in Field chooser.

On the majority of my workstations, this works fine. You do this:
Navigate to the Public Folders, find the Shared Calendar, right-click on it, and choose "Add to Favorites".

This then shows the Calendar (to where you have the option of viewing side by side), in the Calendars tab.
However, no matter how many times I add to favorites, it does NOT get added into that Calendar tab in Outlook and for the life of me I have no idea why.

I installed MS Office XP (2002) on a new Sony laptop (OS Win XP). I moved my Outlook calendar pst files from the original computer to the new Sony. It transferred fine and I can open the calendar with all appointments. However, when I try to open an old appointent or start a new one, an Outlook error message pops up: "Not Implemented". Can anyone tell me what this means and how I can get my calendar going?

I have a tricky problem a user is experiencing with outlook 2003.

He has access to view several other users calendar.

When looking at the calendar view in outlook 2003, down the left hand side he can see each shared calendar he has opened under the “other calendars” section. Each calendar can viewed or hidden by ticking or un-ticking it’s check box.

The problem is for one specific users calendar, this check box refuses to appear, this users calendar can be viewed okay when opened normally. He has tried several other machines and the same problem occurs.

The 2003 client access and Exchange 5.5 back-end. Running Outlook 2003 on win XP pro.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have Outlook 2010 and Windows 8.1.  When attempting to open e-mail in Outlook 2010 or documents in Word I get the following error:
"Outlook could not create the work file.  Check the temp environment variable."
I've read several Microsoft KB articles and several forums on this issue.  According to these articles, This problem occurs when the Cache string value in the registry doesn't point to a valid directory.  The solution provided is to:
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Right-click the Cache key, and then click Modify.  Then modify the sting value to:  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
When performing this step, the cache value was already set to the value above.  I attempted to overwrite by typing the same value for the string, but that did not solve the problem.  I attempted to change it to a different value, save it, and then
modify it to the correct value and save it, but that did not solve the problem.  I also attempted to go in to the INetCache folder under Users\"user"l\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache, rename it, recreate a new folder and copy all subfolders
into it, and that did not solve the problem.  
I am out of things to try from the user forums I have researched.  Appreciate any insight anyone might have on how I can solve this problem.

I used to be able to set up a repeat event in's calender for 7 weeks for a particular purpose. Microsoft in their wisdom seem to have removed that option, unless I'm missing something. Does anyone know of a setting to allow more options in setting repeat events? Calendar - Setting "How Often" to 7 weeks

Just to test I've just logged onto my outlook account, went to calender and created an event. Before saving I click on view details, to the left was a selection and one said "how often", I clicking on this I selected weekly and entered the amount of weeks between events.
You must be doing something wrong. The usual problem is when something is right in front of you and you just cannot see it. We all do it.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking time to read my post. This started this morning; when i hit "send/receive" button, Outlook does its usual process and at the bottom right corner it shows the progress and it shows I recieve w/o any loss, but I don't see it in my reading pane. Plus after Outlook finishes "send/receive", it'll sometimes shut down. running Win xp srvc pk 2. Also when i restart i get a light blue screen and its performing a "Checking File System C:", and when it's done then it'll go to the login screen; any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I would like to have the people on my distribution list see only the name of the distribution list in the "To:" field of the e-mail I've sent, rather than the names of all 25 members in the dist list. I'm aware of using the BCC method, but am wondering if there is a better way.

I think this is only possible if you are using a MS Exchange Server distribution list that was set up as 'Hide Distribution List Membership'.

I don't think you can do it with your local distribution list.

When viewing the list of received messages, I see the date and subject collums; but not the "From" collum. The field chooser option opens; but, when I click on "From", everything in there is grayed out and I cannot add the From field.

I finally figured it out. The "Field Chooser" item in the manus is misleading. It has nothing to do at all with changing the view of the fields columns.

When I'm composing an e-mail, I click on the "To" button to bring up my list of contacts. Double-clicking on the name inserts the contact into the "To" box, but many times the name isn't displayed! There will just be a comma or semi-colon to indicate that something is there--but not the actual name. It doesn't happen for all contacts, but I haven't been able to figure out why it happens with some and not others. The "show as" detail box for the contact always has the person's name and e-mail address in it, so they should be displayed. The person gets the e-mail, but it sure makes it difficult for me to figure out who I've sent it to later! Any ideas? Thanks!

First of all, I am speaking of my Outlook Inbox, not messages. My Inbox currently has columns for "From", "Subject", "Received" and "Size."

My question is: Can I have a "To" column show in my Inbox? Yes, all emails I receive are to me, but I hate having to comb through hundreds of emails to see to whom else an email was sent, in addition to myself.

Maybe it's a weird idea and isn't possible . . . just thought I'd ask.

I had MS Office pro 2010 " Trial " version some time ago. It expired. Did not buy the full version.
The following is merely what I can remember. The step-by-step may be a little off.

Open Outlook 2010 > click Inbox folder > View tab > Current View > View Settings > Columns > left column, under Available Columns heading, scroll down to find To > if you find it, click it > click ADD which is at the middle > right column, use the Move Up button to place the To option anywhere you want > click OK when done.

Hello - strange problem one of our users is having - when she picks up a draft email (she has previously prepared) then sends it, the email is recieved with the draft date, instead of the sending date. This means that the recipient cant see the new message (they will find it in listed as being recieved on the "draft" date). I have been unable to duplicate this error! Has anyone heard of this happening?

I've tried to send a delayed email using the "Do Not Deliver Before" function. Hoping the email would be date/time stamped when I wanted the recipient to receive the email. For example, sent the email on a Tuesday and scheduled the email to be delivered the next day (Wednesday) at 10am. The function did delay sending the email, but the date/time stamp was when I originally hit sent on Tuesday. What is the purpose of this feature if the date/time stamp will not indicate the date/time I wanted the recipient to receive the email?

When using this function, is there a way for the exchange to track the date/time stamp of the email when it actually leaves the Outbox instead of when you click send? I understand the exchange keeps track of the date/time stamp of when an email is sent, but why couldn't the exchange keep track of when the email leaves the outbox when using this function? Is there any exchange setup that will make this function work the way it is supposed to? Thank you

I managed to screw up my XP Media Edition OS and couldn't access Windows. I Installed XP Professional and after it was up and running found that a file called "My Backup (date and time)" was created. I have been able to restore quite a bit of the files but I can not for the klife of me locate and restore the Outlook 2000 files. Where are they and how can I get them back?

What's the file extension (ending) of this "My Backup" file?

If you created it, based off the date and time it gives, you'll know what you created it with and we'd also like to know that so we know what the backup contains.

Are you saying you formatted (wiped) out a drive and you're now looking for files on it that you didn't backup elsewhere?

If that's the case, very dim chance of retrieval.

This started a couple of weeks ago, I have removed Dell system detect as I thought that was the problem.
I did a previous post regarding this and thought the prob was resloved with the Dell system detect removal, but blue circle spinning is still a problem, PC also slow to respond when typing (while online), so thought I had better start new post.
The problem occurs all of the time in IE 11 was also happing in Firefox so I uninstalled it and downloaded Sea monkey but same thing there too.
PC shows no virus/malware (Kaspersky/malwarebytes, also have superantispy ware. Running win 7, have all updates.

I sent this in to the Microsfoft Outlook News Group and did not receive an answer. This is curious because I know that several Outlook experts monitor the news group ...

Recently, Outlook 2003 seemed to freeze for a few minutes before it would
open. I went to the Control Panel and attempted to "Repair" the application.
In the process of the repair, the program in the Control Panel asked me to
locate a file. I retrieved the Office 2003 CD, placed it in the machine, and
pointed the installation program to the CD. Soon, the repair was done. I was
able to open Outlook with no problem.

However, the next time I attempted to open Outlook, and every attempt since
then, the machine runs a short installation program prior to running the
program. The installation program requires nothing of me and takes just a
short while.

Even though everything works, it is irritating to wait for the installation program to finish for Outlook to open. What can I do to fix this problem?

A screen shot, possibly?

Have you tried creating a new Profile for Outlook 2003 to see if the behavior persists?
Do not Import any messages, Contacts or E-mail accounts.
Manually create your e-mail account.
Start Outlook 2003 with the new Profile, close Outlook and restart with the new Profile.
Let us know what happens.

I really need to download a ton of photos today, and my PC is running so slow it won't let me connect the camera at all. (The camera and cable are not faulty. I upload pics every day. This has happened before but I was able to connect it eventually).

I've closed all apps and I looked in Task Manager and disabled everything that I don't need.

When my browser isn't open, Windows Explorer is the top user (I use Explorer to connect my camera), and Nvidea GForce Experience Backend is the next top user. I'm certain Nvidea is the culprit in makig my PC too "busy" to let me connect the camera.

But when I disable Nvidea, it just comes straight back!

Even when I restart my PC it comes back! How do I get rid of the damn thing?

Also Nvideo Settings and Nvidea something else keeps popping into the party as well!

I need my pics urgently!

Why is Nvidea taking over my PC? And why can't I choose when to let it update, or whatever the hell it is doing?!

When either creating a meeting or accepting a meeting through Outlook 2003, the calendar displays the user as free on the computer he is using but when others see him as busy. He is using a laptop with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Have run the detect and repair, reinstalled, and run the clean freebusy command line switch.

Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

My organisation has just rolled out an Exchange 2007 Server.
I am a desktop support engineer for my unit. We are setting up access to the server through Outlook 2003.

A small number of Outlook 2003 users get this error message when they are using a .prf file to configure their clients.

"Your Exchange Server administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance."

This is XP SP2 running Outlook 2003 (error occurs on Office, Office SP2 and Office SP3) connecting to Exchange 2007.

I have tried tried applying SP2 and SP3 to Office and completely reinstalling Office but it still occurs.

I am told by the Server Administrators that this is a local problem so I am not getting any help from them. I tend to believe them that it's not server side because I set one of the profiles up on two PCs next to eachother. On one it worked fine but on the other it had this error message. I could not see a difference in the two Outlook installations.
I have read this article here but a lot of the questions it asks and tests involve having administrator access over the server which I do not have.

Does anyone know of anything in the local Office installation that I do have control over that has been known to cause this?

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2003/Exchange 2007 - "Your Version of Outlook has been blocked..."

Hi we managed to find the solution so I'm posting it here to help others.

We inherited a number of builds that were done by other companies. It appears these builds have in the past had previous versions of Office installed. This has resulted in registry keys lurking around from the old installs.

Once we removed these registry entries it worked.

Best way to do this that I could think of is to

1) Uninstall Office and then search the registry for any references to Outlook. You can do this using AML Free Registry Cleaner (which has a search function). Ignore any hits for Outlook Express you are only insterested in Office Outlook.

2) If this is the problem that you are having then you will find registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\7.0 or 8.0 or 9.0 etc.

3) Delete any Outlook folders in the above tree. Onc eof the keys in the Outlook folder will be Version and this appears to be what is being read when the server asks what version you have.

4) Reinstall Office - it should now work.

I am getting problem whenever I?m trying to send Email using Microsoft outlook express 2007. I am getting this error message ?Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F? please help me in resolving this error.

Answer:Why is this error coming "Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" in Microsoft Outlook Express continuously?

Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. I assume that you?ve ruled these out.

The problem may also occur if you have an antivirus e-mail protection utility enabled, which checks the mail as it comes in from your Post Office Protocol (POP) server. To test this, disable the antivirus e-mail protection utility as well as the Windows Firewall.

Another likely cause is that there is a message that is either too large or corrupt in some manner. Logon to your servers Webmail site and delete the offending message there.

I may be posting here a few times now I have 2007 and its quite different to 2003, and just finding things is time consuming, i'm sure it will get easier and probably work out better once i get used to it

On the outlook calendar, the view with all the days on the lefthand side

I find when i have an appointment , set to busy its very difficult to distinguish the days with and without appointments as the Bold is very weak, Is there a setting to change the format so the number perhaps changes colour rather than just bold

On 2003 which I have on a different machine - the busy days are bold and stand out really well and i can see days I have appointments quite easily.

On 2007 this is not the case, I tried changing screen brightness - I wonder if its the PC - A Dell E6400

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm using Outlook 2003. I'm designing a new Contacts screen, which better suits the needs of my business.

I have been able to figure out how to everything except for this:

How to I design the "date" and "dollar amount" field values to default to blank/empty instead of defaulting to the word "None" in the case of the "date" field and "$0.00" in the case of the "dollar amount" field?

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

I have Outlook 2000 Inbox set up as follows:

( Notice the circle around the "Account" tab) But, my friend has Outlook XP and can't get the "Internet Account" tab to show which Internet Account (i.e. Comcast, Yahoo, AOL, etc) that the incoming email is from like mine is with Outlook 2000.

He can only get the "tab" to be displayed that states "Internet Account" but the tab's contents (unlike mine) remain blank when he gets mail from any of the accounts.

Is this done differently in XP compared to 2000 Outlook??? How can I get his "Internet Account" tab to show which account incoming mail is from like mine is in the pic???

I have newbie webmaster for a small E-store domain. We created 5 email addresses like

- [email protected]
- [email protected]
- [email protected]
- [email protected].

All this time, I was using HORDE webmail for accessing all the above email accounts. I was not comfortable with the user interface.

Then I came across this article, which explained that I can have outlook 2003 as a mail client. Just I have to create seperate profile for each email account.

Following are the steps it was detailed out in that article.

Step 1:
open Control panel.

Step 2:
Open Mail.

Step 3:
Show Profile will be displayed. Then click add for adding a new profile.
My problem is, show profile is not visible. Instead it is displaying email accounts. As per the article, why it is not showing up in my system.

I tried my level best to find "show profiles" but no.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Does it say: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Or does it have a different version listed?

The Outlook you are using appears to be an older version, maybe Outlook 2000?
Which is fine, as the mode can be changed from Internet Mail only to Corporate/Workgroup mode, where you can add Profiles.

When I get into the outlook application i get this message and the application freezes

Check your drive for errors and run scanpst.exe on your pst's and ost files. Generally this is one of the signs of a corrupt mail database which is why Microsoft has been pushing for a few years now to get rid of them.
Other possibility is with the temporary file store location. You can find a write up about it here. Outlook could not create the work file

I'm getting: "A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". This happens within minutes of starting Outlook (in the non-safe mode)

Outlook works in safe mode.

Does anyone know if it's possible to print a weekly view of a calendar in Outlook 2003 showing free/busy details but without displaying the appointment details? I know it's possible to hide private appointments, but this does not meet our needs.

To put this into context:

We have three meeting rooms in our library, each with their own 'resource' calendar in our Outlook system which is used to manage the room bookings. We wish to print the bookings out on a weekly basis and display them on the meeting room doors so people can see if the room is free/booked. There is a data protection problem with us printing the room bookings with people's details in it owing to the public nature of our building. The calendars are shared amongst all the library employees and everyone needs to see who the bookings have been made for on the computer so making them all 'private' appointments is not practical.

Has anyone done anything similar? Anyone got a solution?

All of a sudden I could not find my sent mails in the Sent Items Folder. I looked for help from the forums and got a suggestion to create another profile to test whether I can see my sent mails there. I followed the instructions but there was not enough to lead me through so I don't think I completed creating a profile. Then I got another suggestion to purchase the Registry Booster to clean up my registry. After I did that I was able to see my sent mails again.

However I still continue to see the Outlook Data File Popup with the message "This data file has not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or try the name of a new file to create". After I clicked "OK" then I got another pop up to prompting me to choose a file from the Libraries.Documents directory. I clicked "Cancel" then I got another pop up with "Properities for this data file must be defined prior to use". I clicked "OK" and then I got the Outlook Data File Popup and the same subsequent popups again. After clicking through I was able to start my Outlook but when use the registry Booster to scan I got more error messages. So apparently these errors from Outlook is mucking up my registry. Anyone has any idea about this problem? Please help. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Helen.

Firstly, you certainly do not need any registry boosters to solve Outlook data file issues - was this a recommendation made by someone, or was this suggested to you by an automated pop-up? If its the latter, is there any chance you could be infected by some sort of malware?

To solve the Outlook issue, do you know where your Outlook data file is being stored? Can you do a search on your computer for all files with this extension:


Post back here with your findings. Also, can you tell us about your current system : what anti-virus software are you using. I'm a bit concerned about this Registry Booster : generally speaking, in most cases you really do not need/want to be mucking with the registry at all.

I have a user that cannot display Outlook forms.
She gets the following Outlook error: "The form you
selected could not be displayed. An error occurred
registering the form in the OLE registry."

All machines are running on Windows 2000 with MS
Office 2000/SR-1. The problem seems to be machinebased. You take the user to another machine and there is
no problem. Also when another user log's in, this user gets no error. I've looked in many newsgroups but until now, I didn't find an answer...

I have a user who gets insufficient resources errors at random times during the day.

browsing to her network drives, causes this error. The drive is not displayed.
Printing causes this error. The document does not print
She basically, can't do anything.
The system has 2gb of memory, not a ton, but taskmgr shows there is lots of room there, CPU usage also isn't high.
Programs usually running are
Autocad 2008
Outlook 2007
and random programs.
pdf documents in Acrobat Pro
Internet Explorer 8

I close out Outlook 2007, and the error goes away, she is able to print and continue as normal.
I open Outlook 2007 back up, and she is running fine for a while.

I remember older versions of Office creating a memory leak, which was addressed in patches and service packs, but I didn't think a memory leak issue existed in 2007.
Anyone else seen this kind of behaviour, and if so, solutions?

Hey, y'all.This just started, and I don't know what the problem is--hopefully one of you does.Whenever I try to do just about anything in Outlook, either with mail or the calendar, I get an error box that says, "Could not install the custom actions".  Once I click the "OK" button, the process that was interrupted by the error message, e.g., maximizing a message from the preview pane, adding a calendar item, etc., resumes as if nothing had gone wrong.I've never instructed (or tried to instruct) Outlook to install any custom actions, so I'm really confused here.  And I haven't done anything unusual with the laptop lately, save to have the cable internet tech hook me up to my new internet provider three days ago.  Oh, I also ran a registry cleaner (RegSupreme) a few days ago, too.  Could either of these have messed up my Outlook?I'd appreciate any help that y'all could offer, even if the solution ultimately consists of either restoring my registry to a point prior to these strange occurrences or, the universe forbid, backing up all of my Outlook stuff and then uninstalling and reinstalling the program.Thanks!--yitzadP.S.--In case this information helps, I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 1420, with Windows Vista.

I installed a MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module on my Intel DX58SO running Win 7 Pro x64 and MS Office Pro 2007.

The software/drivers for the module added Bluetooth features to the Office 2007 applications.

Every time I reply to an email for the first time, I get the following pop-up error box:

In addition to disabling the "Show Add-In user interface errors" option as described in post 1, you can disable the "Send to Bluetooth" feature under Tools/Trust Center/Add-Ins/Manage: COM Add-ins (drop down menu and click "Go")/uncheck "Send to Bluetooth."

With Win 7, you need to right click the application exe file, select "Properties"/Compatibility and check the box to run the program as an administrator to be able to uncheck the "Send to Bluetooth" options in all the Office applications.

All other functions work just fine. This hotlink failure occurs in email only. I now cannot open any hotlink within any email I receive. All was well until a few days ago when this hotlink failure began. Any help will be appreciated.The Outlook program is part of my Microsoft Office 2000, if this helps.Problem solved. Using Outlook 2003.When trying to open attachments we get the following error message"Can't create file: <filename>. OUTLOOK 2003: "the requested operation failed" error appears on Internet E-Mail Settings IMAP pop-up?

I have been using & setting up Outlook on 2 identical W7 pro 32 bit pc's for several yr with little or or problems.

My wife & I are moving to a new area and will have new email addresses and haven't been able to get past the above error (pix below). My ISP Charter & they are always making changes to their email program & settings. Also, after months of no W7 updates, I have just started rec'd updates for both PCs.

I'm trying to track this problem down: Am I making an operational error, or is Charter trying to get everyone using their web mail, or is MS slipping something into W7 updates to force customers to W10??
If you guys have any suggestions, etc, please advise as I will be with out an email client on my PC when our move is completed. Please see image below.

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "" for "" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

MS Office 2003 with all updates
Windows is set up with 3 user profiles - error only occurs on "administrator"

PC appears to be clean: I run SPYBOT and AdAware regularly, and CCleaner and Registry Mechanic occasionally. I use fully updated Trend Micro PC-cillin Virus Protection and firewall.


For no apparent reason, when I open Outlook I get the message "Data file 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly. The file is being checked for problems" .....pause

...and then Outlook closes. (NOTE: any recommended solution that requires Outlook to be open cannot be applied). I have researched the Web forums and one suggestion was that the .pst file is too large. I back up the .pst file every night and last night's file was 352 meg which does not seem to be too big.




PS: I can get e-mail on-line

Answer:Outlook 2003 - Error "Data File 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly"

Well the good news is that your .pst file is not too large... the maximum limit for previous versions of office .pst files was 2 GB... usually corruption occurs before this point though (post 1.5 GB is about the point where it becomes prominent), and with the new office 2003 4TB is the theoretical limit of your PST files.

One thing to try... move the location (into another folder) of your .pst file, so that the association of the outlook and the pst file is broken... see if this allows you to open outlook... if so try to remap to the .pst file in its new location, close outlook and see if the issue has been resolved or if it fails to open again.

If you are able to open outlook (with the pst disconnected) and the previous step has failed try using the import/export function and see if you can import your .pst file from the old (corrupted one) to a new one...

There are utilities out there that are able to check the integrity of .pst files, but right at the moment... it escapes me as to which are the recommended scanners.

Other suggestions are welcome...

Yesterday, I started getting the error message below whenever I try to send an email from my Outlook Express.

If you go to <--- IP altered for safety. It tells you that this IP has been blacklisted as one that maybe is sending spam. Okay, that ain't me or anyone in my household! It also says, contact your ISP so... I call Verizon DSL but they tell me it's actually a MSN Outlook issue. Verizon says, the IP it references is one that Outlook makes... creates... or something... when it sends out my email. Huh?! So...

I call MSN only to be told that I have to go to Dell since they made the machine. So... I go to Dell and they say everything that Verizon says is hogwash but it'll cost me $100 for them to fix it. Ugh!! So...

Does this look... sound... smell... familar to anyone??? If any mods need the actual IP lemme know, I'll PM it to you.

Could this have ANYTHING to do with the Microsoft Service Pack 2 I dowloaded a couple days ago??

My Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often, then you must close outlook, reopen, and then it works. THis happens about once a day. I've loaded the office updates to no avail. I've also uninistalled, and reinstalled ms office, and ran regclean a couple times in between, but still I have this problem. I've also verified I have no firewalls running, and my anti-virus version is Symantec Corporate edition 8.0. My o/s is WinXP Pro, sp2. We are not using an exchange server, just pop/internet mail.

Any thoughts as to how I can correct this?

Outlook intermittently gets "mail delivery error" My wife and I both use Outlook 2000 to check multiple accounts on our respective domains. We both experience the problem that after some time of being open (it can be only a few minutes or it can be hours), we'll start getting "can not connct to (account name)". It's usually only one of the accounts, but it's not a particular account. It can happen to any one of the accounts I'm checking. Closing and restarting Outlook always fixes the problem, and sometimes just unchecking the account and re-checking it under the "Accounts" menu will fix it.

Basically it seems like Outlook just randomly loses the ability to check one of the account (which one is also random). It's annoying to have to close and restart outlook all the time. Any ideas why this happens?

Are you using IMAP or POP for your mail? This is to be expected if you are using IMAP- Outlook is a little flaky with this sort of e-mail setup.

I use Thunderbird for my mail and I never have any such problems.

This PC has been in place for 4 months with no problems. On 3/4/2013 the user tried to print an email from Outlook 2010 and got a "Close Preview:Outlook.exe - Bad Image" error. The body of the error says...

"C:\windows\system32\prnfldr.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or...).

They get a similar error when trying to print from Visual Foxpro 9 w/sp3.

In both cases, it's always saying that prnfldr.dll is the problem.

There is an identical PC in the same area. I copied this file from the working PC to this one, but the problem persists.

The strange thing this is that Outlook will sometimes print without incident. Visual Foxpro always gets this error.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

I just installed Outlook 2010 on my new Samsung laptop running Windows 7 a few days ago (an upgrade from Outlook 2002 that I was previously using on my old computer running XP). My husband & I have 4 different email accounts, so I started configuring all of them on the new version & it all seemed to be working fine. Last night my husband moved our saved emails, etc., from our old computer to the new one. At first everything went smooth. All the stuff we still had on the old pc showed up in all the right places in our new inboxes. Once he was finished, we tested send/receive several times & it was all working fine. That is, until this morning...

After powering up the laptop & starting Outlook, I've discovered that all email accounts work EXCEPT our main account. This is the error message I keep getting:

Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
Receiving' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'

I used one of our other email accounts that work to send my husband an email showing him the error. He has no idea how to fix it & I have tried to find an answer online & can't. Can anyone (as if you're talking to a child) explain to me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

I recently installed Office 2003 and set up my Outlook rules for messages received through "specified account" to be moved to "specified account". This way when a message arrives that's addressed to account "a" it gets moved to the folder named "a" and when a message arrives addressed to account "b" it gets moved to the "b" folder, and so on.

I have 14 accounts and all the rules work fine, except for the "default" account. For this topic, let's say that my default account is called "a" and my inbox account folder is also called "a".

I created the rule exactly the same as all the other, however, when I try to run it, I get a dialog box called: Rules in Error and it contains two columns named "rule" and "error". Under rule it says "a" and under error it says Cannot move to the "a" folder.

I've looked through the microsoft Knowledge Base and done several Google searches but can't find the identical problem.

Anyone have a clue what could be causing this error?

My wife and I both use Outlook 2000 to check multiple accounts on our respective domains. We both experience the problem that after some time of being open (it can be only a few minutes or it can be hours), we'll start getting "can not connct to (account name)". It's usually only one of the accounts, but it's not a particular account. It can happen to any one of the accounts I'm checking. Closing and restarting Outlook always fixes the problem, and sometimes just unchecking the account and re-checking it under the "Accounts" menu will fix it.

Basically it seems like Outlook just randomly loses the ability to check one of the account (which one is also random). It's annoying to have to close and restart outlook all the time. Any ideas why this happens?

Our company has a modified CRM system which is used to manage workflow and generate staff activity diaries within several departments. There is a central SQL database, but part of the way it operates is by syncing with Outlook to generate certain activity prompt emails.
When a user launches the software, one of the things it does first is start Microsoft Outlook in the background (as a service).

I recently installed the software on a Vista box to test it. I had to set it to run in XP compatibility mode (otherwise it doesn't launch at all) but otherwise it seemed to work ok except for refusing to open Outlook on launch. It comes up with 4 errors...

OLE: Get FolderInbox CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderDeleted CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderCalendar CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderContacts CALL FAILED

Now, the company that wrote the system and provide the support switched to a .net version a while back. They say they don't support the old version on Vista.

The PC has Outlook 2007 installed. We have the system running fine on XP boxes with Outlook 2007.

My best guess is that this is either something to do with the permissions on Vista, or it is using some kind of connection method that has been retired/disabled/turned off in Vista.

I have tried running the CRM as administrator, and attempted to set Outlook to run as administrator (although whether this would work when it is launched in the way described above I have no clue). Also tried turning off UAC co... Read more

Last week I've noticed that whenever I create a new email, everytime I try to insert an email message as an item, I get the following error: 'object could not be found'. This was working fine a week ago. I'm running XP pro SP3 and the Outlook is 2003 SP3 as well. What can I do to fix this? Thanks.

Hi guys I work for an ISP and embarrassingly I am really stumped with this one. I have a customer using Outlook Express every he try's to compose an email OE try's to force him to create a contact and its annoying him. Every time he clicks send it comes up "no matches found" he is using XP I did a google search but only found information regarding this issue related to 98 and 95 none of the resolutions applied to XP.

Sadly my XP machine is out of action at the moment and I cant tinker with it, your help is much appreciated.


After 4 years with no answer, I hope this helps someone else and saves the obligatory 1/2 hour searching dead posts with no helpful solution (in 2 minutes flat).

HERE'S HOW TO 'FIX' THE 'NO ADDRESS FOUND' ERROR: (1.) Open Address book and simply double click on the faulty contact entry. (2.) The 'Properties' window should pop up, now click on 'name' tab and add a dash after the 'last' name field entry. The 'display' field should reflect the additional dash after the name. (3.) Now click 'OK' to save changes then close the address book. (4.) Now create a new message and begin typing the contact name which should auto-fill the name showing a dash after name. Now it should work, BUT the extra dash may be seen by the recipient. TRY ADDING A DIFFERENT CHARACTER AFTER THE NAME IF DASH LOOKS FUNNY. GOOD LUCK ----dUCKBILL

XP Sp1, Office XP, Outlook 2002 Sp3, up to date.

This issue is in an additional mailbox the user (2 in this case) opens when Outlook starts up.
When trying to open an email in the folder, there's a good chance they get "Can't open this item. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation." Here's the kicker, if they keep trying, or try others, eventually they can open it. Once they are able to open the email once, they can open it over and over. Then they can go back and open some of the previously un-openable emails.
I've seen a reference in the KB articles, and it mentions a post Sp3 hotfix, but all updates have been applied. There are probably about 20 people that access this box, and so far only 2 have said anything. Maybe the others are more patient.
Another thing that stumps me is that one user says it only happens in the morning, before anyone else comes in. In the afternoon, everything's hunky-dorey.
I set up this users mail on a spare box, and cannot recreate the problem. I guess it's something on the local PC, but figured I'd ask. The mailbox currently has about 47mb in it, with a 60mb limit, and a 300mb cutoff.
My next course of action is to recreate the user's profile on his box, but he won't be available until Monday, plus I want to do it in the morning.
Anyone else have an idea?

I recently acquired an older Compaq PC (4090US model) with Windows XP, and had to install an internal V.92 PCI modem in it (it was a gift for someone who uses a dialup connection). There were only 2 slots available, one with a wireless modem card and another with a network card; I uninstalled the wireless card and installed the PCI card following the instructions that came with the CD. It appears that the new card has been detected and installed properly; however, I cannot connect to the internet using dialup, as I keep getting a "phone line is busy" error from the modem. I went into Windows "Help and Support" section and used their network diagnostics tool, and think I see the source of the trouble- both my new modem and a PCTEL PlatinumV90( ? I don't know if this was from an earlier modem card installed or if it's the LAN card?) are listed under "Modems". However, under "Network Adapters", there is still a listing for the Wireless connection. It lists as follows- [00000001] NETGEAR FA312 fast ethernet adapter
[00000011] NETGEAR WG311 v2 802.11 Wireless PCI adapter.
I can't find a way to modify this connection. Any ideas?

I think (from a little web searching) that PCTEL PlatinumV90 is an integrated dial-up modem. Is it not working, and that's why you needed the PCI card? Maybe you can disable it in the BIOS.

When you "uninstalled the wireless card" did you simply physically remove it, or did you use Device Manager to uninstall it and then physically remove it? If the former, that's probably why you're still "seeing" it. If it still shows in Device Manager, try to uninstall.

After setting up my new printer HP 6310 All-in-one printer, My computer started to show a weird error message. "This action cannot be completed because other program is busy. Choose switch to activate the busy program and correct the program". After selecting switch to button, computer shows the start up menu. It keeps saying that message whether you choose switch to or not... What should i do?

When I save as my MS Office (v2010) files on network drive it shows error "file is busy, please try again later", but actually it creats new file on given name on save as but all BLANK!!!!!

I read dirrerent places that it could be fault of antivirus so I tried to disable my antivirus and it works fine !!!! so I need to know how to disable only network protection function on my antivirus program which is KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 2011, so I could use my files on network with security on local PC.

Sounds like to me, that you need to use a different AV program or find the setting within your AV program that is blocking the saving.

My system crashed recently and I have had to restore everything. I reinstalled Outlook 2007 and was able to restore my PST file from a backup I had using the genie backup product. All my files and folders are now restored.

When I click on the send/receive button, I get this message "The operation failed. An object could not be found"

I deleted my email setup account (I'm downloading from my att account) and re set it up using the instructions on the att site. I also ran the 'repair' function off the Office CD and did the Office diagnostics.

Any suggestions?

Am running windows vista home premium with office 2007 professional installed.

About a month or two ago, I've noticed that whenever I close outlook, i get an error message:

"outlook has stopped working"

Everything seems to work fine otherwise, but this is a little annoying and I'm wondering if there's any way to either fix the problem or turn the error warning off.

When you open any letter to view it there are 4 buttons below (ltr): Reply, Delete, Left, Right. Obviously for 'right-handed' people Right button should open next letter and Left - previous. But for some reasons order is reversed. Do you know what is the reason? Is it UI/UX based decision?

Answer:Why "next" and "back" buttons in Mobile Outlook are reversed?

The only sensible thing I can make of it is that you're looking at a list in reverse chronological order (newest at the top), so going forward would go to the next (older) message.

I am using Windows Vista.
Office 2010 purchased.
I can not recall my emails. The message I'm getting is "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found".

Hosting Exchange and I checked with the hosting co. who says they support the functionality. Quote: This function is a default feature from Microsoft. All features that Microsoft has enabled by default are enabled by us, the default settings aren't changed
by us."

How to fix it?

Here's the problem: In Outlook 97, if I receive a forwarded message that contains the original message as an attachment (as opposed to included as message text), I get the error "Can't open this item." However, I can open messages that contain any other type of attachment, or none at all.

Also related: If I change my Outlook 97 options to "Attach original message" when forwarding a message, then try to forward one, I get the error "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, start Outlook again." Tried that -- didn't work.

Also related: If I select a message listed in my Inbox and press [Ctrl-C] to copy it, then compose a new one and try to paste the copied message (i.e. attach it), I get the error "Cannot create attachments. Internal application error."

Here's my setup: I am currently using Outlook Express 5 as my default mail client. It can receive and open attached messages just fine. I want to switch to Outlook 97 (or better) as soon as I can get this problem resolved. My OS is Windows 98 SE.

OK. I think I've provided enough info. Let me know if you need additional details. I searched the Microsoft Technet site and couldn't find anything about this. I certainly hope someone can help.

I'm get this error ("msoe.dll could not be loaded") when I try to start it. Does anyone have an idea about why this would happen? The dll does exist in the dir.

Have you recently made any changes to your software? This behavior generally manifests itself after upgrading/downgrading/changing IE, OE, or installing certain service packs. It can also occur if you remove the Windows Address Boox (which OE requires).

Beginning several weeks ago, whenever I try to open a word attachment in microsoft outlook (2000), it says, "Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again." It says this even if nothing else is running. It opens pdf, excel, and jpeg attachments just fine. I've been scouring the web to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and can't find any info. If anyone has any thoughts, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Does anyone have this DLL. I think I deleted it in error while cleansing my machine. Now I get this error message each and every time I open MS Outlook. It stays the DLL could not be installed or loaded. Tried fixing via detect and repair without success.

Any ideas?

I recently replaced the hard disk on my Dell PC using the disk copy utility which came with the hard disk. Everything seemed OK until I tried to run Microsoft Office 2003 applications. The main problem is Outlook which gives me the error "Unknown Error 0x8007007E" when trying to receive email. I can send mail with no problems. Other Office apps (Word, Excel) launch but give me a "Preparing to install" window when loading. I was unable to run the Office repair utility or even uninstall/reinstall the package. Also, IE didn't work initially, but magically started to work OK.

I thought it was some Microsoft spyware that was unhappy about the new hardware, and ran the upgrade for XP to reregister. No help. I found and ran the scanpst.exe utility which found/fixed errors in my pst file, but did not fix the problem. I checked for, and found, inetcomm.dll in the System32 folder. I downloaded and ran the Windows "install cleanup" utility and removed/re-installed Office 2003 to no avail.

Recently did a XP pro install (instead of a plain upgrade), which didn't help. I downloaded a registry cleaner to see if that would help. Maybe now, I should reinstall office, though several attempts to "repair office" did nothing. I tend to thing this is more of a system/Office level problem, vice Outlook, because of the errors in Word/Excel.

Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there,

Here is the synopsis of my problem.

I am running Windows XP, and Microsoft Outlook 2002, which until a couple of days ago was working fine.

I can receive emails, but I cannot send them from my machine.

I am connected to the internet via a Belkin 54g wireless connection, which also was working fine, and still connects fine to the internet.

I have Spysweeper running on my system and Norton Antivirus 2002, along with a Zone Labs firewall.

Like I say, I have previously managed to send and receive emails using Outlook 2002 fine for the last year and a half, up until a day or so ago.

My account is a broadband connection through (Wanadoo). I called the Wanadoo customer support, and they confirmed that my POP and STMP settings were correct, and the testing of the setup was successful.

When this ran, I was able to send and receive an email from my system to my own account.

The problem is that when I try to send an email to any other external address, the following error message occurs:

>Sent: 10/08/2005 07:52AM
>The following recipient(s) could not be reached
>********* on 10/08/2005 07:52AM

I have tried disabling my Antivius etc, but this still doesn’t work.

Is this when you try to sign in directly to your email account? If so, same happened to me using Edge. It may be MS changed something. Log in through, and point any browser bookmarks to and it won't show that message.

Last night a popup message from McAfee told me that Dell Security center was trying to access the internet. I was in the midst of downloading and reading email, and being a dummy, I gave one-time permission.

Soon afterward, I began to suspect a virus, as I received a virus notification popup and an email from my ISP re: a deleted virus. As I was deleting items from my inbox, Outlook Express froze. I tried restarting, and OE hangs on the inbox and hogs 96%+ system resources.

This morning, my ISP program showed an error and my Antivirus was corrupted. I did a system restore and redownloaded the antivirus, which solved my problem with getting on the 'net. I've scanned and come up with nothing and downloaded a special scan and remove tool (Stinger) from McAfee for the virus it warned me about yesterday....Sober, I think. But still, OE hangs up on the Inbox and I can't read or remove or access the toolbar. It says "no email selected."

Any ideas?

When testing the account settings in Outlook, a pop up window keeps on alerting me to "Enter the Network Password". Cox technical personnel was not able to assist me solve the problem; even though, I have a Cox e-Mail account.

My system is Windows 7; and,
my e-Mail is MS Office 2007

Does anyone know how to get past this problem? Otherwise, I am unable to synchronize my e-Mail.

I use the "Outlook Express" for my email for years, no problem.
I had been using ISP for my email server and have my own email account set up, so far so good.
I had checked the box "delete from mail server after deleting from trash" and it works out just good. This is because, no need to log-on the mail server each time to clean up the read emails by hand, this way could release enough space for receiving email. Is because the ISP charge on over-quota space for emails, or just will block excess emails over the allowed space.
The problem started, when a friend told me could set the email folder away from the hard-drive C, I set it as per his suggestion. Then, the "auto-cleaning function" stopped performing.
I asked the ISP and was told because "Outlook Express" is designed by Mircosoft Inc. so they could not help.
Then, I set it back to the "defaulted folder", but the function could not be recovered.
This is quite annoying that I have to log-on the email server and clean up the emails daily by hand.

Whenever I start up I always get that problem. I have Registry Mechanic and whenever I scan for errors and whatnot I get this msg every time "Infomation not found". I asked around but nobody seems to know what the deal is.

Here's what it says (I have a picture)

I click repair but it still happens every restart. Today I tried to reinstall Windows Vista but I got an error msg saying "Error code: 0x80070241.

I have no idea what to do, I don't have money to buy a new laptop so I'm stuck. Any help is appreciated.
