hotmail -- transferring/copying contacts to new hotmail account from old

Question: hotmail -- transferring/copying contacts to new hotmail account from old

I'm being spammed to death. So, I've registered a new Hotmail account. Now, I would like to transfer/copy all my contacts in the old account into the new account. Can someone please tell me how?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: hotmail -- transferring/copying contacts to new hotmail account from old

Have you tried using the extensive filter and spam blocking on Hotmail?

If you are usiing OE also go to it and export your address as an .csv file then go to this url and import them to your new hotmail account.

http://lw14fd.law14.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/dasp/doaddressesimport.asp

I don't know if their is a provision to import them from your old Hotmail account.

I've scoured the Internet for solutions, and while I've given countless attempts to no avail, I want to give this one last try.

I've mainly tried to use Outlook 2002 (as that's the version I have) by connecting it to my original email account. That went smoothly. Then I exported all my messages to a .pst file. Though that had some hiccups along the way, that also went smoothly. I then connected Outlook 2002 to my new email address - it received the few messages that were already there, so that was fine.

I then imported my original email messages via the .pst file into my new account (still in Outlook). All the emails showed up, in the right folders and perfect. The only problem now, is getting the Hotmail web client to recognize these.

I also forwarded all the messages as attachments as one email message and tried moving the attachments, but (though this sounds incredibly picky), it did not preserve the timestamps.

I've seen Windows Live Mail and am reluctant to use it, though I will if I have no other choice.

So, if there's any way at all to transfer my email messages -no matter how long-winded- that'd be great! If not, I'll have to cope with Live Mail or some other client, or without those timestamps.

If it's relevant, I am running Windows XP (SP2). If there are any other details I need to/should provide, I'm perfectly willing.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

This is my first post, so if I'm not doing something right, please let me know.

Here's the problem: All of my contacts are missing from my Hotmail account. I read some other posts pertaining to this problem, but still can't figure out how to resolve my issue. I have not reinstalled software, or had any computer related problems since last using my contacts list.

Thanks,

Everyone in my address book/MSN contacts were sent a SPAM e-mail from my account.
The next day I logged onto MSN and all my contacts were missing.
All my contacts had been blocked and deleted and all the ones I had blocked were on my allow list.
I checked my Hotmail contact list and it was also empty.

I went through the 5 steps.

Hi there,

Ried from here recently resolved a case of WindowsRestore virus on my PC. You can see the thread here:

Windows Restore Virus- Any Advice Thanks?

However last night my hotmail account was hacked and a virus email was sent to all my contacts (without my knowing ofcourse). I have since changed my password.

Is this coincidence or are having the windows restore virus and having my account hacked connected? Ried did a great job cleaning my machine but could there have been something left over? Involving a keylogger maybe?

Thanks.

I have seen a few posts on this but they have all been closed due to lack of feedback. This has happened to me about 3 times now, I get a whole lot of Delivery Failure reports in my Hotmail inbox that tell me the following email couldn't be sent. It appears to have tried to send this message to everyone in my contacts list, and in some cases successfully. It's very embarrassing.Hey friend,How are you these days?I got a nice webiste ,that guys sell lots of laptops |cell phones| PS3 | cameras and so on,which are brand new and original,But the price is so cheap and quality is nice. The international shipping is door to door ,more accurate ,more security!Go and check it : www.eleRUSH.com MSN: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] have changed my email account password as this seems to be the only advice that Windows live can offer, other than the usual "how to keep yourself safe" stuff.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can stop this from happening again? Thanks

Answer:Hotmail account sending out spam to my contacts list

Unless you are absolutely certain that the E-mail is actually coming from your computer, it would be more likely that someone else's computer is infected and the malware found your E-mail address there. And too, spammers often mask their stuff as if it came from an E-mail daemon, since most ISPS do not filter that address.

I recently loaded a pop3 Hotmail account to my Outlook 2010 since I was having problems with the MAPI Hotmail sending multiple copies of emails with large attachments. I am hoping the pop3 version will eliminate this problem; however, I can't seem to get the pop3 account to find my contacts and Contacts folder does not appear in the folder list. This is stressing my pea sized brain and I sure could use some help.

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet anothe... Read more

Answer:I can't acces my HOTMAIL account- Hotmail Tech Support?

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

I had several hotmail accounts that I could view in the Nokia 930 windows 10.
I have not installed any apps (however there wsa an app that I do not know what was doing there with the text showing @\user\microsoft\windowsapp\ etc. the text was longer an I was not able to remove the app)
However the problem of the emails did not arise after the above app was mysteriously installed but happened before.
It looked like that one specific account was inexplicably confused with another email account...e when I was tapping on one Icon app of hotmail account I would actually read the email of another account.
My main Email setup account within windows phone setup had disappeared and when trying to re added it was saying that it was already setup.
Therefore I could only but hard rest my phone. I have hard reset it four times now and every time I setup the account with my main Email account everything is fine but when I add another email account it all goes wrong with similar variations of the above issue and now I even have an error message saying the account the I added
Now I am getting has the settings out of date. I tap FIX button there is some activity but nothing happens.
How can I fix this!!!

I have a Windows 10 phone (Verizon 735), a couple of Windows 10 laptops, and annual Office 365 subscription. Just a home user and have all my Contacts/Calendar in Outlook, but don't have an Outlook email account....just AOL accounts which I get via Imap/Pop.
In past, I setup m.hotmail.com to sync across laptops and phone but sketchy at best. Just got notifications to "Re-connect Outlook 2016 ". Deleted old Outlook account and added new account....tried no hotmail this time. Outlook came up great...only 1 calendar!!!!! However nothing syncing with phone. Assume still need hotmail?
All I want to do is have my Outlook contacts and calendar synced with all my devices. Assume this should be very basic as guess all this is on "My Cloud"? Also, should be the minimum if Windows phone has any chance. Appreciate any help.

Answer:Syncing Outlook 365 contacts and calendar without an Outlook Email or Exchange (Hotmail) account.

How to export contacts from hotmail to any email account (without outlook or paying for a premium service). Follow the procedure step by step, it takes 15 minutes.

1 Go to ?contacts? in hotmail. Highlight names and addresses with the mouse. Copy all the names and the email addresses.
2 Put the selection on a Word sheet. Highlight all again, go to the ?table? menu and choose ?Convert text to table? (attention, check the option ?commas?).
3 Go to ?save as? and under the option ?files of type?, choose ?plain text?
4 Open Microsoft Work spreadsheet or Excel
5 And using Work spreadsheet or Excel open the file previously saved as plain text
6 Now you have two columns. Insert a row at the top. In the first column write Name, in the second E-mail, in the third Notes (exactly like here, attention to the capital and plural)
6 Go to ?save as? and under the option ?files of type?, choose ?.csv?
7 Open Gmail, go to contacts and on the top right you will see ?import?. Now you browse and you choose the file saved as .csv.
8 Look what a miracle

I've got a problem, beacose i want to have all of my Hotmail contacts on my google account, but it doesn't want to sync. How can i solve this problem?

Answer:How do I sync my Hotmail contacts with Google contacts?

Leave Google?
Or, you can "export contacts from the Hotmail" website to CSV and then "import contacts to Gmail".
Not sure if a live sync function exists. Outlook (hotmail) can certainly connect to Gmail, but I don't think Google can do that.

I haven't seen the problem but since Firefox sees your Contacts they still exist on your Hotmail Webmail account. You might go to Outlook.com Webmail and use the same login to check, could simply be a Hotmail page or Internet Explorer problem. [I feel Hotmail may soon be fully migrated to Outlook.com.]

I've almost always used Win Live Mail (me @ msn.com), but was advised this week to switch to Hotmail after my e-mail was hijacked & bogus msgs went to a lot of my contacts (& a few that are not my contacts).

I'm not "comfortable" with Hotmail. WLM is just easier for me to work with, maybe because it seems more like old Outlook Express. Anyway, I'm having trouble navigating within Hotmail. Things seem to change in subtle ways (& sometimes, not so subtle) from session to session or within a session. I'm sure I've clicked the wrong place, but . . .

In Hotmail (Outlook) all my folders are listed on the left. Yesterday(?), my contacts (& I think some other stuff) were listed at the bottom of that list. Maybe I somehow collapsed the contact list & then saw contacts. Today I can't find contacts anywhere. Where are they?

It enfuriates me that when I want to write a new e-mail, only "Frequent Contacts" are displayed. With my bad memory, I need to see ALL my email contacts so as to be able to select ones I haven't emailed for some time.
Does anyone know how I can display all contacts (like it was before the "improvement"?

John, just above the "Frequent Contacts" list there's a tiny blue "To" link. Left click on it once to display all your contacts. Left click on it again and it'll return to showing your frequent ones.

I was stupid. Out of curiousity I opened a couple of spam messages. They have somehow attached contacts in my list of contacts when I open the To: addressing function. If I go to my contacts list to add or subtract, they do not appear. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

It's sending messages to people in my contacts. Virus scans have been done but no joy.Vacation message and personal signature deleted but no joy. Still I have no idea how to get rid of this hacker or is there a way to find where it's hiding in my Hotmail account? Also contacted Microsoft but noboby was interested!!

Answer:hacker in hotmail contacts

First thing is have you changed your password? It might be too late as whoever it is will have your contacts list. If that fails then I'd open a new Hotmail account, with a strong password, and start again with a different name. Inform your contacts. Bit of a pain.

I've been using Hotmail and have built up a list of contacts. I've now setup Outlook 2002 as the front-end client and want to download my contacts from Hotmail. However, Hotmail doesn't appear to have an export facility for contacts. I hope there's a way to do this as I've got around 200 entries in my Hotmail contacts.

Hello

Wondering if anyone could give me some advice please? I received an email from someone who also has a hotmail account. I saved their details by simply clicking the 'save to contact' button. Since I did that, all their further emails between us now appeared under a nickname. Unfortunately this nickname wasn't particularly flattering and I'm in the embarrassing position of being accused of storing this person under this term I am absolutely positive that I have not done this and wonder whether this person (unknowingly) has a nickname attached to their account that would show when another hotmail account holder accepts them as a trusted contact? I have tried to ask this on Hotmail without success,

If anyone knows how nicknames on Hotmail work I would be very grateful for any advice,

Thank you

Helen

Answer:Nicknames for Hotmail contacts

Have you gone down the contact list and made certain it's entered entirely correct there?
I get hotmail to hotmail mails all the time, and everyone shows up normally.
I'm wondering if you didn't do something weird when you added them.

Hi, today i saw that my hotmail account sent out a spam email to all my contacts. I went to the sent folder and saw that all the contacts i had saved got the email, nobody else got it. Also, my vacationing reply option was turned on even though i never touched it. I looked around the internet and it looks like my email has been hijacked. My wife wants me to delete a contact. That contact appears when she types the letter "B" and Bill appears. He used to be on contacts but was deleted long ago.
The problem is that when I went to Contacts to delete him, guess what?, he is not on the B list.
What gives with Hotmail? How can I delete a listing that doesn't appear?.

Answer:Solved: contacts in Hotmail

Are you using a hotmail client like Windows Live Mail for instance? Or is this direct browser-hotmail account access?
If its a client, check with the address list in the online account, I've had old contacts come back when syncing a client and that's because they are stored online with the hotmail account.

Hotmail users, could you help me out here? Once upon a time, I had a short list of "favourites" on the compose message page, and then Hotmail changed that and put my entire list of contacts in a drop-down menu (by email address, not by name -- awkward, but I managed). Now that's gone as well.

I spent a good half hour last night, trying to build a favourites list ... read through all the help topics, and found nothing to tell me how to do it. I open up the "Favourites" and it tells me there's nothing in there; I try to "edit favourites", but I can't type in addresses, and there's nothing in the contact list that I can *add* to the favourites list. I opened up a contact at random, and there is all the info: the name, quickname and email address ... and a little box -- already ticked -- that says "mark this contact as a favourite" ... but my favourites list is still empty.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? Clues how to fix it?

I use to be able to just have the contacts I email frequently listed when I brought up my new email window in Hotmail. Now, since they have "improved" it to Hotmail Live (?); when I bring up a new email window, all contacts are listed no matter how remote they may be to me. I can't find a way to only have the heavy email pals listed when I bring up for a new message. What am I missing (besides my mind).

Answer:Live Hotmail & sorting contacts

I think there is no such feature.

If you type the first letter of an address all those addresses that start with that letter pop up and you can select one. So a possible workaround would be to prefix your heavy email pals with an unusual letter (q, x, z) and then those would be available when you type that letter. Not nearly as convenient as the old frequent contacts list, but maybe better than nothing.

Hi

In the old hotmail classic version, you use to be able to mark a contact as a "favorite", so the contacts you use the most only show up.

Now with hotmail live ALL your contacts show up. You are unable to mark a contact as a favorite.

Has anyone found a workable solution to this stupid problem?

Answer:Hotmail live problem with contacts.

And as a rider, is it possible to add to/delete from Favorite contacts any more? I'm stuck with and out-of-date list adn can't edit it OR get help from the help site?

I do not generally use my hotmail account these days. I was thinking of changing that, and installed the new outlook connector, so that I could pull my hotmail emails into outlook, and sort them out with rules, etc.. Tame the inbox if you will..

Anyways, then I start to get emails from my friends saying why did you send me this crap.. Here is the body of the email if it helps..

Heya, how are you doing recently ? I would like to introduce you a very good company which i knew.Their website is www.trade-beauty.com .They can offer you all kinds of electronical products which you need like laptops ,gps ,TV LCD,cell phones,ps3,MP3/4,motorcycles etc........Please take some time to have a check ,there must be somethings you 'd like to purchase .
Their contact email: [email protected] .
Hope you have a good mood in shopping from their company !
Regards

There are of course some handy links in there, that I did not bother taking... Anyways.. I think outlook is compromised. I doubt it is my hotmail account itself, but maybe. Having never found myself in this situation, thought I would ask here for the best way to handle it..

Thanks for your assistance!!

Answer:Hotmail hijacked. Sent emails to all my contacts..?? Help..

E-mail spoofing

A feature of the protocol that email is based upon is that the email message itself has a number of spaces (data fields) for information like the "intended recipient", "sender's email address" and the "return email address", "CC", "BCC", etc etc. within the email datagram (think of email like a picture postcard with spaces for the sender name and address as well as name and address of the person it is being sent to).

What someone has done (or rather set up a piece of software to do) is send a spam email to so many million email addresses with the sender's FROM email address set to be the same as the "intended recipient's" TO email address. This is done for two main reasons, partly to try to get past email spam filters that filter on known spammer's FROM addresses (or email domains) and partly to hook your interest in getting an email from yourself - which it achieved.

So the spammer is not sending spam email from your email account (that is - they are not hacking into your account and typing messages), but simply using your email address to send spam email to you. Just as if you had got a picture postcard through the post addressed to you with the offer of cheap Viagra but was signed with your name.

Anyone know how to do this?

I have tons of contacts online (in Hotmail) and I would like to be able to acces them when i am at home using Outlook xp.

Can anyone help

Thanks

Answer:Import Hotmail contacts into Outlook

This may or may not work,
1. First have the HotMail acct installed in your OE application. To do this follow instrucitons at this link
2. Than open up Address Book> TOOLS> Press Synchronize Now.
3. This will move contacts from the Address Book's Main Contact folder
(not any contacts in sub-folders that you have created) to the HotMail
Address Book, and visa versa. You will need to check both address books
for duplicate entries, and delete as necessary.

Hope it helps

Ive noticed that once a month, feb, april, and may, my hotmail email has been sending out spam to all my contacts. It even appears in the hotmail sent folder. I rarely use my hotmail email address, and have never had a similar issue before with my other email addresses (that I know of-eg Ive never sent spam to my contacts which has also appeared in the 'sent' folder on yahoo etc). I have changed my hotmail password as a result, and scanned this machine fully/kept it updated with adaware, avira, malwarebytes, spywareblaster. Is it likely to be an infection on the pc, or the result of some automated system working out my password and using my hotmail on its own to send out its own spam? Im not 100% on how it works exactly

Answer:most likely cause for hotmail sending out spam to all my contacts?

theDarkness

For some reason if you don't select a strong password for hotmail then it's a target for spammers as it is Microsoft I think.
Create a password with letters, upper and lower case, digits and symbols that are accepted. Example:
Mhall,ll,ll,Mhall,wfwwas.
Mary had a little lamb,
little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
whose fleece was white as snow.
Easy to remember but make it a personal poem.

Answer:Importing contacts into hotmail from excel

Hi Boomer123454

Try creating at least one Contact in Hotmail, then Export the Hotmail Contact list to your Desktop as a .csv file.
Contacts > Options > Export Contacts

Open the .csv file, then you can see the template Hotmail uses and either paste the information from your Excel sheet to the .csv file or change the order and Headers of your Excel file to match the Hotmail .csv file.
Import the .csv file into Hotmail:
Contacts > Options > Import Contacts
Select the Microsoft Outlook icon.

In Step 2, it should default to the Microsoft Outlook (using csv) option. If not, select that option.
For Step 3, click the Browse button and browse to, and select, the .csv file you created, or added to, on your Desktop.
Click the Import Contacts button that appears in the Hotmail window.
The Import should begin.
Hotmail will tell you if it is successful or not.
Let us know if that works for you or not.

Hi. I'm at something of a wit's end. I've had a situation for a bout a week where my Hotmail account has sent multiple emails to various members of my contacts list without my permission. I have changed my password on multiple occasions and am fairly confident that the problem is not one of my account being compromised in the traditional fashion.

I have run multiple Spyware/Malware removal tools to no avail and have Microsoft Security Essentials installed with definitions up-to-date.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Hi,
Recently my hotmail account keeps getting blocked for sending spam.
I checked my "Sent" box and there are about 20 different emails being sent from my email.
However I have never sent these messages to anyone.
I checked the message source and it says:

X-Originating-IP: [60.56.82.85]

My IP isn't anything close to the IP that sent the emails.
I have ran malware bytes, Ccleaner, Registery cleaners and Kaspersky internet security.
No malware detected, I have ran HiJackThis,

After seeing that warning i suspected that my DNS had been changed by some virus and my sites were being redirected to some shady server. However the result of my ipconfig/all showed that I still have the right DNS on my NIC.

Also some of these spam emails are sent when my PC is turned off sometimes.

Your Help in solving this will be HIGHLY appreciated

I have windows 7 64 and in my hotmail there are email accounts that I can't delete. They must be spam placed there from a website I visited. When I click on CC, they show up in the list, but when I go to manage my contacts, they are not there.

How do I get rid of them?

This problem has occurred several times and has caused me great embarrassment. I click a name from my contacts list, which appears in the "send to" field. The name I select is the only name displayed in that field, and no names are displayed in the CC or BCC fields. I write my email and send it, but when I recieve the hotmail confirmation, it says my email has been sent to my intended receipient, as well as some other random person in the address book (not anyone near the intended person in alphebetical order). One particularly graphic email I sent to my boyfriend was somehow also sent by hotmail to my MOTHER, much to everyone's horror. Why?! Has this happened to anyone else? Can I prevent this in the future??

Hello sjackson24, and Welcome to TSF!

This problem sounds very suspicious to me, in that I think that you might have a malware/spyware issue.

Hello All, This is my first post here and I hope that you all are willing to help out a "newbie" of the forum, because as of right now I am getting fed up with my BLEEPING COMPUTER!!!My computer has been acting a little funny lately...I'm not sure what the issue is, but a lot of my administrative privileges seem to have been changed, ie "You do not have permission to (fill in blank)" If anyone has time to take a look at my hijackthis logfile as well as the adsspy logfile to see if there is anything that looks a little fishy. I have had THREE different instances of my bank account info being exploited and just recently my Hotmail account was hijacked and used as a "mass SPAM sender". I've subscribed to Hotmail for email. The blurb from Microsoft suggests I can use Outlook as the front-end interface. Is this easy to setup? Can I download Outlook for free or is it already bundled in my XP Office suite (student edition)? Also, whether I use Outlook or the native Hotmail interface, I want to export my contacts from another pc (which uses Outlook) and import them into either Outlook or Hotmail on my new pc. How can I do this? The help for Outlook Address Book doesn't even contain the word "export", so does Bill not want me to do it?

Answer:Setting up Outlook/Hotmail and exporting contacts

Outlook cannot be downloaded free. You can use Outlook Express which is a cut-down version of Outlook.

Hello, TechSupport Forum

I hope you can resolve my issue where my hotmail is sending my contacts links to follow into spam. I can confirm this because i have added myself to my contacts list and i have recived one from myself. On top of that, my contacts responded back telling me that they are recieving it. I have re-installed windows (not in hopes of repairing the problem, due to actual OS mis-functions)

EDIT: I also do have access to a recovery disk/re installer

HI,

Hoping someone might have an idea what has happened!!!!

I had a friend mention that I had sent them a weird email with advertising in it etc on tuesday this week- which I found a bit weird as I had not been logged into my hotmail account since last friday.

So I went to check my hotmail account- it appears this email (which I did not personally send) has been sent to all my contacts!!!!!

I then checked my contact list and they have all disappeared!!!!!

I then logged into my MSN account tonight- and all my messaging contacts where there and now have all disappeared!!!

I also have a facebook account and wonder if this could possibly be interconnected!!!

Cheers Nattyocean

Answer:Hotmail issues- contacts all gone and weird email sent to all

Was the e-mail related to something from facebook? I know some applications will actually log in to your hotmail account and send out "invites" to people in your address book.

I would check the details in the e-mail that your account sent and see where it might have come from.

Hi,

I logged on to my work email this morning to discover I'd been sent an email from my girlfriends hotmail account. The email had been sent to me and everyone else in her hotmail contacts and all it contained was a brief statement that requested people to visit a website (which was blank). The thing is, the email was sent when I know for a fact my girlfriend wasn't logged onto hotmail – and she certainly never sent it or knows anything about it. Does anyone know why this has happened? Or has anyone else come accross this? She only ever accesses her hotmail account at home and no-one else could have used that computer.

Many thanks for any advice!

Answer:Hotmail sending hoax emails to all contacts - Can anyone help?

What is most likely to have happened is that her email address has been "harvested" from an infected computer on which the address was stored (from an incoming email). Or from any public forum or webpage where it may have been posted.

The harvested email has been used by a spammer or virus writer as a "spoofed" :From address, which only looks as if it came from her.

If the email website link was blank, it may have been an error by the perpetrator or the website may have actually contained some nasty script that you have protection against the vulnerability that it was trying to exploit.

There are a large number of permutation on the theme.
