Question: Blank emails being received from Win ME user

Hello,

My sister's e-mails to me have suddenly started to arrive "blank".
She uses ME, I use Win.98se. We both use Outlook Express.
There are no attachments in the mailings.

Anyone have any idea what could be happening>

Preferred Solution: Blank emails being received from Win ME user

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am using Outlook 9.0. I have several Email accounts and I have set up some rules. I get a ton of spam on my regular ISP mailbox so I send all emails that I receive for that account to that mailbox. I use AVG anti-virus. I have received a couple of totally blank emails. There's nothing in the "To", "From", "subject", or the body. The only thing that appears is the mark from AVG indicating that it is certified virus free. It is not marked as having removed a virus or anything else. It has a date & time stamp when I received it.

I am puzzled. How could a blank email find my mailbox? Is it possible that somebody is sending an email that will delete eveything once it is received by me, and maybe send a verification back to the originator that the mailbox is active? Any ideas?

Bob

Answer:Blank Emails received

For spam use MailWasher I have started using it since last some days and it saves me from the trouble of downloading lots of spam.

For the other (main) part of your query wait for some more knowledgeable person. There are many at this site.

I send out quite a few emails and just recently have added two new customers to my contact list. They both have Ticali and when received my emails are blank with no attachment. They both use the same PC by the way.No one else has a problem with my emails, so I think the problem is either with their setup or with Tiscali. To get around this at the moment, I send the email to another contact, who like me uses BT Internet so the problem is not BT.Any suggestions?

Answer:Blank Emails Received by recipient

If it`s any help this problem also occurs with some attachments sent out with e-mails from ntlworld.com to some other ISP recipients. A number of us on various different ISPs recently received an e-mail sent with an attachment by one of our number who is with ntlworld.com. Some of us received the attachment but for others it was stripped somewhere en-route. We all checked it was not our security removing it by passing it from others who received it complete to those who didn`t and there was no problem other than for those sent from ntlworld.com accounts. We have no idea of the cause and have decided it is one of the great mysteries of the internet. To overcome the problem we now avoid attachments as much as possible and include all text in the body of the message. Where they are absolutely necessary attachments are forwarded through known, `good` routes. Painful but it works.

Hello,

I Recently upgraded several XP sp3 workstations from Outlook 2000 to 2010. When receiving an email with a digital certificate from a existing sender the contents of the email are blank but also get no certificate error messages. Email correspondence before with Outlook 2000 on same PCs was fine. Any help in this matter will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Karl

Hi,

Ran into some odd computer problems today, any assistance would be fantastic.

PC / OS / Browser Info:
Dell Optiplex (bought from DiscountPC.com)
P4 1.99GHz, 512mb RAM, 40GB HD
Win XP (OEM) ver 2002, SP2
Firefox v3.0.3
IE v6.0.2900.2180

Overview Problems:
1.) Windows login password shows "IIIII" instead of the encrypted dots to indicate a password
2.) Random Outlook emails appear completely blank
3.) Google homepage on IE is completely blank, other various pages do not fully load, but work in Firefox
4.) Button text on some apps (Auslogics defrag) are completely gone
5.) Various system hangs

The computer worked fine until today. It was original purchased as a frugal replacement for an existing broken office PC.

Methods tried:
1.) Defrag/registry defrag, auslogics apps missing button text
2.) Ran AVG Virus scan (buttons missing text), to no avail, wouldn't run
3.) System restored to yesterday, and then to a week ago, to no avail
4.) Visited various tech support sites that suggested to run various REGSVR32 commands in Start -> run to no affect
5.) Ran IEFix app which was suggested might bring back broken IE components
6.) Explored Device manager, nothing is apparently wrong with any devices

This is about the extent of my IT knowledge. I would much prefer a way to fix other than formatting - I'm not even certain a format would fix the problem.

Any suggestions? Any more information I could provide? Have no idea what it could... Read more

Three times now, my new car insurance policy documents have been emailed to me - once six days ago and twice today, once each to my two addreses - and none has arrived at my inbox. I'm getting emails from other sources, so something's working OK.
I've checked in junk etc - but nothing there! I've also been to "my web mail" on my broadband supplier's site - but nothing there either!
Any ideas as to what might be the cause of this problem?
I use windows XP home SP3, Outlook 2010 and Outlook Express

Answer:Emails not received

My suggestions are that the email to you has been incorrectly addressed to you - it could be just a small matter of a "dot" in the wrong place or having checked that it is not on your "Server" it may be "stuck" on the sender's Server.
Other than that it could be your Firewall if it checks your incoming mail - try "disabling" that to see if it makes a difference.

Any suggested troubleshooting tips for this problem would be appreciated.A colleague has recently sent me several emails, none of which have been received by me. My colleague did a test with a copy to herself which she received but I did not get the original. My colleague is definitely using the correct email address and has not received any 'bounce' messages. So far as I'm concerned, I'm receiving emails from everyone apart from this colleague. I've checked my Junk Mail folder without success. I have three separate email addresses and my colleague has tried sending emails to all those addresses but none have been received. Both my colleague and I use Outlook for normal mail but 2 of mine are webmail based - googlemail.com and merseyamil.comI'm finding it very difficult to find out what is causing this problem and whether it is at the sender's end or at my end!

I have 2 PC's. One is a Windows 7, 64 bit i5Inte, PC, and the other , older PC is an XP.
I use Windows Live Mail on the Windows 7, and Outlook Express (6), on the XP.
The XP is picking up emails, but the Windows 7 'misses' them. At one time they came through simultaneously. Because I use VirgiMedia services, I CAN go to my account and their Website to check my emails, and they are always there, but can anyone let me know how to ensure that the WIN.7 and the XP receive emails together. It is inconvenient to go to my account everytime to check emails!

On your outlook settings have you checked the 'Leave on server option' is ticked on both machines, otherwise when they are received by one machine they are no longer available for the other.

I am on AOL (I know, I know, but my husband doesn't want to go through the hassle of changing email addresses if we dump AOL) and recently I have been told by 2 friends that they sent me emails, but I never got them. One friend has MSN as her ISP, and the other has NetZero. I have received emails from both of these people in the past, so I am thinking that the problem must be of fairly recent origin. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why I haven't gotten their emails, as they have double-checked my address and made sure it wasn't a typo. I have not changed any settings or any other "spam blocking" devices on my computer.

Does anyone have any ideas how this could happen, and what could be done to change it?

I am running win 98. Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this problem.

recently have received a couple emails (from family sources) that have -on separate line- a capital A with what appears to be a little pyramid thing on top of it. also appears to be an italic type A....what the heck is this & why is it randomly appearing in emails?

Answer:odd character (cap A) in some emails received

Explanation 1: If they are from the same family member, then it could be the case that you don't have the font installed that they used to send to you. Some fonts substitute a different font in, but cannot compensate for some characters.

Explanation 2: Your family contacts could have "smily central" or some other god awful program such as that, and as you may not have the same program, then the smilys could be displayed as random characters.

Explanation 3: It could be that you can only recieve emails in plain text, and your family member is sending in HTML, or similally, you recieve in HTML and your family contacts send in plain text. Incompatibility of formats.

These are the only 3 things i could think of.

Good Luck.

Hi,

In the last few weeks I have started to notice that some of my emails (sent from Yahoo) do not make it to the recipient. It took me a while to realize it because they doesn't bounce back but then my family/friends tell me they never received XYZ email (I live abroad). I have started to test the issue with my parents; it appears that sometimes they get it normally, sometimes they get it 2 days later, sometimes they don't see the color of it! How weird is that!?!?!! It happens so randomly that I can't tell why...

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Please help! I would prefer to keep my Yahoo account if possible, I've had it for years!

Thanks in advance,
Brigitte

Hi! I am using outlook 2007 and for months I have had emails intermittently not send or be received.Because it only happens some of the time it is really hard to pick. The problem is not due to spam folders etc, as I check them regularly.I only notice when people's emails don't get to me or apps (like Twitter) tell me that my emails are not working, we try again and then they work fine. No one ever gets a bounce message.I have tried contacting my host and they can't find a problem so I am guessing it is an Outlook problem. I have several pop accounts coming in. Is there some way I can test these accounts or reset them? Thanks :)

Answer:Emails intermittently not being sent or received

I use the actual email prog rather than outlook ie direct to windows live mail for hotmail.

I talked to a friend of mine last night who wondered why I haven't been answering his emails. I told him I haven't received any from him for over a week, even though he's been sending me several a day. He said that some of his other friends haven't been getting them either, and some have. So his wife tried to send me one from her PC in on the same ISP, and I didn't get hers either. She talked to the rep with her provider and he told her he could see them going out, but I'm not receiving them, and they're not bouncing back to them either.
My friend is an older guy, 62 I believe, and just got his first PC a couple months ago, so I'm thinking he did something to cause this because of his inexperience, but I don't know what would do it.
Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Trying to block spammy emails (using Outlook Express) which have a variety of sender's addresses. If I block using these, it doesn't work as the addresses keep changingCan you use the "Received: From" as seen in the email properties? The ones I'm getting are consistently fromout-mta10.ai270.net Any ideas?

Answer:Can I block emails using "Received: From"

If I remember correctly, it's not possible to block a domain in OE, anyway the domain probably changes as well, montyburns. Probably the best thing to do is use something like Mailwasher click here or ePrompter click here to vet the incoming emails. At least using one of those utilities, you wont have to download the emails to your computer before deleting. Those utilities sit between your email server and your computer, letting you know what emails are waiting to download hence letting you decide whether to download or delete them from the server, they can also be flagged up for deletion by adding them (and their domains) to the block senders list. Not an optimum solution I'm afraid but it works well.

I have just returned from 4 months overseas, during which I didn't require access to emails on Outlook Express. My ISP are Pipex.I reckoned there may be up to 5000 emails in my inbox when I returned and, as some are simply regular circulars, knew I would have some deleting to do. I had set up an Out of Office reply via Pipex. On return I clicked Send/Receive and received NO emails. I reported this to Pipex; shortly afterwords brand new emails started to arrive, but the ones from those 4 months have not. As Pipex have appalling Support, they unsurprisingly can't, or won't help. Do you think these emails are recoverable ? Any ideas where they may be ? Do I need to do something to enable me to download so many emails ? Have I exceeded some limit ? (Currently about 1000 emails on Outlook Express - so not too many ). I am desperate, as there will undoubtedly be some important stuff in there. Any ideas, or have they just, quite simply, disappeared ???

Answer:No emails received whilst overseas

Can't you login and access your e-mail via webmail on the pipex site? There is a link at the top left hand side to "check your mail" which opens a popup to sign in. Surely they must be on the pipex server?

Answer:why does hotmail only allow me to resend 3 received emails a

Maybe Hotmail/Livemail/Outlook.com's filters are triggered by the type, or content of your mail. From Microsoft:"Content in your message triggered our junk filtersWe block messages from being sent when the contents looks like junk email to Outlook.com junk filters. Occasionally, legitimate email can get blocked as junk. If your message is blocked, try the following:Change the content of your message to make it look less suspect, and then try sending it again. If you haven?t already, increase your daily message limit by going to the Add a phone webpage and verifying your account".

Hi Everyone,

We are experiencing a few issues with emails on a few of our customers machines. The issue being is that emails they send are being recieved by the recipients multiple times. The common factor with the pc's is that they are running Vista and Office 07. The emails don't clear out of the outbox and get stuck. The sent email folder on the main colprut is constantly emptied so there is no size limitation issue going on there. We have uninstalled Internet Security programs. disabled Firewalls. Have even completly reloaded. Have spoken to microsoft but no help there. Spoke to ISP no issue there according to them. All service packs are installed but still no luck. Have even tried diferent routers.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your sent folder to be sure that the email was intact when sent? You could try and type the address in the sent box and see if it is received. If it works, your contacts may be corrupted.

I would like an outlook macro to check for some part of the subject whether or not it exists in one of the already existing excel sheet and then if that part of the subject exists in one of the columns of that existing excel sheet then it should update another new excel sheet with the subject and body for that some part of the subject. For example,If the subject contains some text as "123Q" then it should look for this "123Q" in the already existing excel sheet and then if this exists in that excel sheet then it should update a new excel sheet with the subject containing "123Q" and its body. And if it doesn't exists then it should just show some message that the code you are looking for doesn't exists. Can anyone please help me on this one....Thanks a lot in advance.

What causes me to receive emails with sentences like this: Yes it is! I??ve seen it.. It's obvious the the 's are spaces and the ?? was intended to be a simple apostrophe ('). I don't get these often, just every once in a while, and sometimes from the same person who sends me emails all the time that are perfect. I also see the same characters on some commercial emails (e.g., WebMD).

Hi all,

Last week I received invoices from a Canadian furniture company saying that I had bought about $80K of furniture. This is obviously bogus. Coincidentally, I received another phishing email a few years ago from a Canadian (located in the same area) that I purchased a really expensive diamond ring.

Here's details of this "company":

Omega Custom Furniture & Design Inc
1667A Columbia Street
North Vancouver, B.C. V7J 1A5
Tel:604-988-6683
Fax:604-988-6599
[email protected]

I know that the scammers probably used the info of a legit company to con other people, but what's weird this time is that all I can find on Google is information about this company and nothing about a possible scam at all.

Have you all received a phishing email like this before?

Cheers,

Nicolas

Edit: I didn't notice this before, but the emoticon in the email is an ironic giveaway to this little scam operation .

Answer:Received multiple phishing emails. Has anyone seen this before?

They probably will want you to "verify" your credit card information or SSN if you call those numbers.

Sneaky lil things they are

Funny, if you google map the address they apparently are located on a boat?

If you have an anti-virus running email scanning, try turning that off and see if you still have the problem.
If it goes away, check with the anti-virus software provider.

I have a friend who has just installed explorer 6. Now everytime she downloads an email with an attachment the attacment is being deleted. Any idea why and how to solve this. Thanks.

Answer:attachments deleted on received emails.

Open Outlook Express, go to Tools > Options > Security, untick 'do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus'Note that you should have a decent anti-virus programme installed if you do the action outlined above ( I suggest Norton anti-virus).To bypass the attachment block for a message that you absolutely know to be safe, select the message and choose to Forward it - the attachment will then be revealed. The behaviour has changed, because the new version of Outlook Express that is downloaded with IE6 has a higher default security setting.

Two months ago I noticed I was receiving emails in French although I have never replied to any in French - because I dont speak the language. It has got to the stage where about 30% in my inbox are from French companies. Is there any way I can prevent this happening. On occasion I do get legitimate emails in both Spanish and German and I dont want to ban these. I know I could change my email address but that is the last thing I want to do.
I hope this is possible and any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Emails received in a foreign language.

Delete them and bar the sites they are coming from.

I'd be really grateful for any help on this, my ISP is AOL and I use the AOL email client for all my emails. Unfortunately trying to get help from AOL on this is proving extremely difficult, is there a default setting for AOl emails, can anyone help please?

Many emails I receive from friends in Outlook have a perpendicular line near the left margin (sometimes two parallel ones). When I forward these emails how can I eliminate these lines? I have tried over and over again, nearly always without success.I also often find that some of the words at the end of lines are missing. Again, whatever I try I can seldom recover them. My attempts include changing the format, margins, etc.Any suggestions?

Howdy, folks:
I'm trying to use an Outlook macro to initiate an Excel routine. I've taken a look at geek123 and rollin_again's conversation that would seem to be on point for what I'm doing. I've somewhat modified the recommended code - attached below:
Private Sub Application_NewMailEx(ByVal EntryIDCollection As String)
vID = Split(EntryIDCollection, ",")
For i = 0 To UBound(vID)
Set objMail = Application.Session.GetItemFromID(vID(i))
vSubject = UCase(objMail.Subject)
vFrom = objMail.SenderEmailAddress
If Left(vSubject, 1) = "C" Or Left(vSubject, 1) = "D" Or Left(vSubject, 1) = "L" Then
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
Set xlWB = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\stubbs\test.xlsm")
Set xlSheet = xlWB.Sheets("Sheet1")
vRow = xlSheet.Range("A" & xlApp.Rows.Count).End(-4162).Offset(1, 0).Row
xlSheet.Range("A" & vRow).Value = vSubject
xlSheet.Range("B" & vRow).Value = vFrom
xlWB.Save
xlApp.Quit
Set objMail = Nothing
Set xlApp = Nothing
End If
Next i
End Sub
The code errors out while trying to open the workbook, saying that it couldn't find the file. I've checked the pathing and the filename and they're correct. Has the format for the open statement changed?
Thanks for you help.

One of my clients sends all her emails in 11 point normal arial but everyone receives them as 8 point italic which is almost unreadable. Several times she has set the font to 11 point arial in Outlook Express, Tools, Options, Compose without success.RegardsAwestruck

Answer:Emails received in tiny font but sent in 12 point

Does she format her emails in any other regard? What email clients are the recipients using? Does it still happen if a different email client is used to send? OE doesn't use HTML properly, and as a result formatting in emails can go awry.

I have Outlook 2010. Until recently, the email address I use the most would
automatically download any emails received every so often. Lately, it doesn't do that.

I went to File-->Options-->Advanced & clicked on Send/Receive. There I made sure that
my main email address was part of on of the groups listed. Then I set that group to
check & download emails every 15 minutes. However, it still is not doing that . How do
I fix this? Thank you.

Hello.

I have had an email acc with virgin.net for some 30 plus years. About a year or so ago I was informed it was about to close and I would lose all my saved emails.
I have tried to save some about a year ago but am hoping there is a simple one button press that will save all my folders across to my new email address.

The Virgin.net address is still receiving emails and working well but I must believe it will suddenly just stop working.

I have taken some advice from Virgin Media and others but it does seem a somewhat complex operation

So to that end what is the best [and easiest] way to save all my old emails across to my new account.

Is there any way to edit the subject field on emails that have been received?  (Friends replay without changing the subject, and I would like to save the email with the subject field corrected)

Answer:Outlook 2003, edit subject on received emails?

When someone replies to an email from you, the subject has "Re:" inserted, doesn't it?  So, why do you want to change the subject?  It should remain the same.  The "Re:" clearly indicates it's a reply, not an original message.  And, if you reply back to such a message, the subject line will start with "Re: re:".  That creates a sort of a trail which can be useful in recognizing the history of the message.  So, why try to change the subject line?

I normally deal with all my emails on my PC and action them in one way or another ie delete, file, junk, etc. Then if I go to my laptop and open up WLM, only the most recent emails show ie that day's . Things have changed during the past few weeks in that having actioned the emails on my PC, they are still appearing in the inbox on my laptop. As I do not use the laptop that often, I find myself having to go through up to 300 emails again(although I could just trust that I have dealt with them properly on the PC and delete the lot on the laptop)representing several days emails.
Can anyone please explain how I can get the configuration back to how I previously had it. My searches around WLM have proved fruitless.

Answer:Windows Live Mail - deleted emails received

"I normally deal with all my emails on my PC............"
How are you doing that - via webmail or an e-mail client such as WLM? If it's the latter then are you using the IMAP or POP protocol? It may also help if you let us know the last part of the e-mail address in question (the bit after the @).

About a week ago all images in received emails have stopped being shown - just a little red cross is shown, or sometimes a little block with a red square, green circle and blue triangle inside it.

I think I have made sure that in "Settings" everything is OK (Compose messages in HTML and so on). I believe that there are files which can clog up the system and prevent images from being displayed, but don't know how to access the correct place to delete these.

I run a Lenovo G570 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010.

Windows XP Prof; I use Internet Explorer 7 and Outlook Express 6. A few days ago I uninstalled Mozilla Firefox. I could not delete it from Control Panel-Add/Remove programs. I deleted the main program and all folders that had the word Firefox in it.

Since then, if I click on a blue URL in a received email in Outlook Express, nothing happens. For example, when I received my registration email to this forum, I had to copy and paste the URL into Internet Explorer.

I reinstalled Internet Explorer 7 but that did not help. I think I deleted Foxfire on Feb 5, 2007. I tried Norton Goback a few days later, but that did not "go back" to Feb 5th.

Is it possible that Outlook Express is set up to use Firefox, and now that it is gone, Outlook Express does not know that it should use Internet Explorer? Come to think of it just now, I am pretty sure when I clicked on a URL in a received email, it was Firefox that responded.

Answer:Solved: clicking on URLs in received emails in Outlook Express does nothing

Just writing to this forum made me think about my problem, and I solved it: Internet Explorer was not the default browser. I guess Firefox had made itself the default browser, and when I deleted Firefox, Internet Explorer did not step up to the plate. I made IE the default and now everything works as it should.

Anyway, I am glad I have discovered this forum, and I shall attempt to become a regular member.

So, folks, no need to respond to my previous post.

The emails all have proper subjects and they are from people I know.

Any ideas what is going on? The txt attachments are called things like ATT00917.txt and ATT00945.txt

Don't know if anyone knows the answer to that one since I asked it before and researched the I-net for answers also.
Here is the thread I started.

Maybe together we can find an answer or common thread to this .att file extension. Could you contact the sendors and find out what email program they are using and see if they are using
rich text format or plain text.
Thanks Dave

Edit: Opps Nicky I see yours are attxxxx.txt not .att. Hate having dyslexia. Anyway try saving the files and opening them using notepad but run a virus check first.

Hi there

'Microsoft Internet Explorer - Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly."

We are constantly receiving the above message when we look in our inbox and highlight or try to open emails sent from one particular source/address. We've called them and they say its not happening to anyone else receiving their emails. And likewise emails from other sources come thru fine. We need to receive their emails.

We don't get this message doing anything else on the computers.

To get rid of it, we click on 'OK'. it comes up again. we click on 'OK'. then its gone... until we want to open that email once more.

We are on XP, across an XP network, using Outlook for emails but through the database ACT. So we see our email boxes within ACT.

To avoid some issues with Outlook and ACT, we need to have our 'send emails' set as plain type.

We also run Norton AntiVirus (updated regularly); and get regular Microsoft updates.

Any help in how to solve this sure would be appreciated!

With thanks.

This is an intermittent problem that started a few days ago - some emails from the same sender sent at the same time get through as normal then there are gaps in the list in my inbox where there is no sender, no subject and when I click on the email the content is in (HTML?) code.

It happens with different senders, to different email accounts - although they are all sent to BTinternet.com emails.

No problem sending emails, and when I checked by accessing the emails via webmail they were all perfect in that inbox.

I haven't changed any settings on my PC.

Thank you
