Preferred Solution: changing outlook express account to hotmail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anyone know how to set up Outlook Express to receive Hotmail emails. It needs a POP3 and SMTP server and everything I've tried just brings up an error message.

Answer:Using a Hotmail account via Outlook Express

As soon as you type in your hotmail e-mail addy in the second question you are asked to fill in in the wizard, OE automates those details for you. How are you setting this up?

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

How do I get my Hotmail emails over into my new Outlook Hotmail account I inadvertently created my new account without checking properly

Answer:How to get my old Hotmail emails into my new Outlook Hotmail account

Here's how you add your Hotmail account to your Outlook.com account. I don't know if you'll get your messages over or not. They're two separate accounts that can't be merged.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

I have a Windows 10 phone (Verizon 735), a couple of Windows 10 laptops, and annual Office 365 subscription. Just a home user and have all my Contacts/Calendar in Outlook, but don't have an Outlook email account....just AOL accounts which I get via Imap/Pop.
In past, I setup m.hotmail.com to sync across laptops and phone but sketchy at best. Just got notifications to "Re-connect Outlook 2016 ". Deleted old Outlook account and added new account....tried no hotmail this time. Outlook came up great...only 1 calendar!!!!! However nothing syncing with phone. Assume still need hotmail?
All I want to do is have my Outlook contacts and calendar synced with all my devices. Assume this should be very basic as guess all this is on "My Cloud"? Also, should be the minimum if Windows phone has any chance. Appreciate any help.

Answer:Syncing Outlook 365 contacts and calendar without an Outlook Email or Exchange (Hotmail) account.

It all comes from accounts.
What account do you use for Office 365 sign in?

Ok-email address got harvested and is being used for spam. No problem. I'll change my account. I use outlook express 6 on my home computer to harvest the emails off of the server. It then saves them in my outlook express folder in .dbx(I think) format. My question- if I change the email account to the NEW address, when save that info, will it change the individual string where it saved my old messages and keep me from seeing them when I open the new account? Or will I have to write down the folder and go back and find them? Or(and I've already done this) go to the folder now and make a copy of all the files and import them into the NEW outlook express folder to be able to look at them. Don't want to loose 4 years of emails. Mike.

I'm a Hotmail Plus (is that the right term?) user so I'm paying for expanded service. It's been fine for nearly a year now, but recently, my connection has been shaky - sometimes connecting, sometimes not.

Now, I can't connect at all and I get the following errors:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'The server could not be found.'

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC19) : 'A timeout occurred while communicating with the server.'

I did some trial and error work and realized that the problem is with the URL I'm using:

http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

This address must be incorrect because when I put in "http://www.hotmail.com" instead, it allowed me to get through but only once. That means that the issue is not with my Outlook.

Is there another address and is anyone else having issues with the above address?

What else could be wrong?

Answer:Hotmail and Outlook 2003 (Small Bus. Edition) - NOT Outlook Express

This thread looks pretty old but nobody responded so....Hotmail to Outlook 2003 or above now has a "connector" that you need to download in order for Hotmail and Outlook to sync correctly. Here's the download location for Office Outlook Connector: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...B1-DF0A-46E1-AA93-7D4870871ECF&displaylang=en
Good luck.

I mainly use Outlook 2000, however, in order to get a number of Hotmail messages onto my computer's HD, i synchronised Outlook Express with Hotmail. I now have messages from a folder I have on Hotmail on my hard drive too.

A search revealed that this folder (and presumably all messages in it) is stored under C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{00B31680-0793-11D3-A398-C0610D677E39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

I copied the .dbx file named hotmail - [folder name].dbx to my desktop. I went in to Outlook 2000 file>import blah blah blah, but it wont let me import .dbx files

soooooo.....is there anyway to get my messages from hotmail from this specific folder into outlook 2000? i no longer need the folder in hotmail and will just delete it as soon as i have a permanent copy on my hard drive in outlook 2000. im assuming that since the dbx file is on my hard disk with all the messages (which i can read offline in outlook express) that i wont need to set up outlook 2000 for hotmail synchronisation ?!?

Answer:outlook and hotmail account

The free Hotmail account will no longer work with Outlook. If I remember rightly a figure of about £12.00 is required to open yourself up to the biggest Spam-fest in the business.Don't get me wrong, I use Hotmail, but the levels of spam in it's system is huge and their filters only get about 2/3rd of it. You also have to check the spam folder anyway, just to see if anything has been incorrectly assigned.I reckon it's less hastle to leave the lot on line.

Hi Guys,

My wife cannot access her Outlook/Hotmail account, every time she logs in she gets the message "It looks like someone else might be using your account"
we have tried to verify the account and change the password using the on screen instructions however all we get is thrown back to the above message?
I have Googled this and it looks as if there is no easy fix, the one option appears to be we follow link and pay a technician £14.99 to cure the problem.
I am not fussed about the money but I am not sure if the technician is genuine?
Any help would be useful

Thank You

Answer:Cannot get into Outlook/Hotmail account

That option is a scam. Currently, Hotmail/Outlook are having problems, down for many users.

Get the machine checked for spyware/malware, there may be a redirect or similar in use.

During the course of my own research for this question, I have encounter mixed answers, so I now turn to you for some help.

I am trying to configure my hotmail account to work with Outlook Express... and it is not working. I have come across MANY answers on the web. Some say that MSN/Hotmail doesn't support hotmail being used with outlook anymore, while others say that theirs is configured and works fine via outlook. Some have tried to use POP3 settings with some success even though hotmail clearly runs on an HTTP server. Some say that it stoped working around 2002 only on new accounts, while others say they think they are still able to use OE because they were grandfathered in. Whatever the case may be... I cannot get my hotmail account to configure properly with Outlook or OE. Does anyone here know a way around that? Or are you aware of any programs that I could use to set it up?...for example, I found a program that is supposed to do exactly that for Yahoo! e-mail accounts called YPOP or YPOP3. Anyone know anything about that. Or, can anyone suggest another e-mail client like pegasus, eudora, mozilla, thunderbird,...or any other one that I can use with my hotmail account. Or does anyone know if any of them, or OE work with Yahoo!, GMail, or can you suggest another free one that I can use???
I don't want to "upgrade" to a pay e-mail service just to use Outlook.

Not my day today. Visited a new client with prob with OE. She uses Hotmail for her email and uses OE to handle it (I've not seen this set up before). When she launches OE and does send/receive, it tries to access hotmail, then says it can't connect. if she restarts the computer its just the same, then on another power up - all is well! We know that the password is correct, because we can pick up the mail via IE, and sometimes it works on OE. Anybody any thoughts on this?

I would like to check my Hotmail account from Outlook Express. Since they're from the same company, I figured it would be easy. Wrong! When I open tools...accounts...new... and follow through with the requested information, it eventually asks if I want POP3/HTML/etc. I pick HTML and then it asks for the address of the POP3 server. I try inputing the URL for hotmail, but it fails when sending/receiving. Has anyone configured Outlook Express to do this????

What version of Outlook Express are you using? I recommand version 5 or 5.1. After selecting HTML you should select Hotmail, the POP3 option should be grayed out.

Microsoft have just told me that it will no longer be possible to access Hotmail via Outlook Express from 30 june 2008.They've proffered Windows Live Mail as an alternative.Anyone using it already as a preference?

Answer:Hotmail/Outlook Express

In theory Windows Live Mail is a good idea. However, to me the biggest drawback is that the Contacts (mail recipients) are merged into one file, so if you have mail accounts for specific purposes, you will have to set up a convoluted grouping system. The grouping was too labour-intensive for me to do so I have stuck with my years-old multi-systems. I also found that there is a lot of messing around if you use different signatures for different accounts.

The problem is that I can only check one hotmail account while I have three of them. The strange thing is that on my laptop I can access all three with no problems. I can't see any difference in the settings.

Answer:hotmail:outlook express

Hotmail is known as "web-based email". That means they "store" your email account on the internet.

Outlook Express is an email program that is designed to "store" your email on your PC.

Do you have an internet service provider.

I was told by MS that the protocol would be changed so that I would not be able to send/receive hotmail emails after 30 June, and I should use Windows Live Mail. Well I have not DL it, and OE is still working OK with hotmail. Please let me know if you are finding hotmail is still working for you? Thanks David

Answer:OUTLOOK EXPRESS & HOTMAIL

I thought mine was continuing to work after the deadline, but it stopped yesterday pm (3 July). OE still appears to check Hot-mail, and reports No Messages even when there are - so it doesn't report an error. I guess they are "switching people off" in stages?

I've gotten mixed results in trying to determine if Hotmail is still compatible with Outlook Express.

I configured Outlook express to communicate with a Hotmail account and it worked well for several of weeks. Then after that it began erroring out. It just quit working all of a sudden and in fact did so right after two forwarded emails went to the 'outbox' and never left.

With one last attempt yesterday, OE downloaded 3 emails from Hotmail then errored out again. It still did not send out the 2 emails in the outbox.

Then I decided to remove the Hotmail account from OE. I hit the remove button and all of a sudden it downloaded all the emails in the Hotmail Inbox. After that the link was severed.

What is the reality of the matter? I don't want to spin anymore wheels on this but I would like to be able to use OE. It is the only client I know of that will link Windows Fax and Picture Viewer to attached photos.

I just set up my hotmail account in Outlook Express (6.0) but when I try to download the folders, I keep getting this prompt every few seconds:

It's driving me crazy. I don't know whether its my computer, my internet connection, Hotmail or OE that's causing this to happen. I previously have been able to successfully create my Hotmail account in OE, but it doesn't seem to work this time around.

Hi

I have recently added my hotmail acccount to my version of OE (5.5) with no difficulty, using Tools - Accounts - Add

In trying to repeat this for a friend I found that although she also uses Win98, and the same versions of IE (5.0) and OE (5.5) as I do I was unable to succeed. The screen in OE which asked if you wished to retain the same internet connection did not appear on her system and if I selected HTTP and entered Hotmail it then says that this is not a valid server.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and how to get round the problem.

Thanks

I guess this question has been asked before, (sorry), but how can I be notified and to view my Hotmail e-mail from my Outlook Express?

Answer:Hotmail to Outlook Express

For Notification, I believe the only way to receive it would be with MSN Messenger.

As for actually checking Hotmail email with OE, that's not a problem at all.

In OE, goto tools-accounts-mail tab-add-mail-

set your display name
set your email address (use hotmail address of course

switch incoming mail server to http
switch the http mail service provider to hotmail

fill in your username (your hotmail email address)
fill in your password
check "remember password"

and then you are done with that part

let OE download the folders from hotmail.

then in the OE folders pane, right click on hotmail and go to properties.

Then you must decide if you want your hotmail account to be checked everytime you check your other email if you have another email.

If you only want to check your hotmail when you manually click to receive it, then uncheck "included this account when receiving or synchronizing"

Then you are done with that part.

Now go back to the OE folders pane and left click on hotmail.

uncheck the syncronization boxes for all folders.

Now if you want to check your hotmail email, click on the little arrow next to the send/recv button and select hotmail.

You should be set then.

I told the computer NO I do NOT want to "try" outlook go directly to hotmail when it started showing up upon log in. Well it ignored me and forced it on me anyway. At first it would let me just use that gear thing and tell it to switch back. It KEEPS doing it though? Is there a way to make it NOT automatically force the outlook on me? Something is wrong with it if I use the IE browser to get into my email. It lets me log in then sits there spinning its wheels indefinitely. I figured out to go use a different computer with firefox on it to log in so I could at least clean it out from all the junk but I am fed up now. Am I or am I not going to be aloud to KEEP hotmail. Will I eventually be forced to keep the outlook? I hate to have to do it but if that is the case I need to quick pull all my contacts etc and start using yahoo or something else that actually WORKS and lets me delete crap without opening it first!

Answer:outlook keeps taking over my hotmail account

As I understand it we can continue to use hotmail.com and live.com addresses indefinitely. I suspect that the Hotmail GUI will disappear completely one of these days and we'll be left with the Outlook GUI or one of Microsoft's email clients.

I have an outlook account <removed by mod>
i'm not able to login here because of password is incorrect, so finally how to reset it. I'm using window 10 OS.
I need toll free Outlook/Hotmail support number.

Answer:How to get back into my Outlook/Hotmail account?

i have removed the email address as it will provide you with a lot of SPAM
There is no support number , for outlook/hotmail as far as I know, BUT that may have changed now with Windows 8 (when MS first started linking email accounts to PCs for login)
you can goto chat - and MS will assist via Chat service

If you have forgotten the password - goto another Pc that works
Login page for the account
Then click on forgotten password
you then have to either do
a) Enter the mobile number to get a text code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
b) Enter the alternative email address to get a Code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
c) Enter the answers to the security questions

If you cannot do any of these - then there is a form to try and rescover the account
You need to provide a lot of details, and on the three attempts I have tried this to help people, they have an email back saying not enough information and ended up changing to a new email address and never did recover - BUT Thats before this windows 8 and using MS password

so you maybe OK to use Chat line

What country are you in - you may have a support number - not sure it will be toll free
the UK is 0344 800 2400

Hi.
I still have a Hotmail account I want to secure better. Right now all I have to do is enter my email address and then approve the login with the authenticator on my phone.
Well jeez.. talking about making it easy to break into my account! If someone knows the code of my phone, all they need to do is look at my iPhone info and they can see my email address. Then, simply enter the email address and approve it and BAM they're in!
At least Gmail asks for a password AND the authenticator code when logging onto an 'unknown' device. Or does it work the same way for Hotmail/Live/Outlook?
I prefer to always log in with my password initially. If I didn't have a password on my PC, they'd very easily be able to log into my Hotmail account, since 'stealing' a phone login code is very, very easy. People will just stand behind you, watch you tap your login and BAM it's game over. Sure, they'd still need to get a hold of my phone, but man, I just hate it that Hotmail switched it around.
You should always have to enter your password first, and an extra code from your phone as an extra.
I'm asking this specifically, because my Gmail has a Hotmail account as backup email address.
Thanks.

I had installed Microsoft office upgrade to 2007 and also updated to microsoft outlook and lost function of respond on the email client. I was into windows live and sending a message, the client asked to have my email changed to outlook express which i agreed to. So now my email client it express but lost all the emails that were on the Microsoft outlook with all the addresses.

Anyway that I can retrieve my address book from Microsoft outlook through maintenance option

I had tried to save the address book yesterday but the copy paste function was greyed out. The default change was kind of spontaneous. Any help available for this. I was using the MS outlook due to work online. Using windows XP professional

Thank you and Happy New year to everybody!

Answer:changing default to outlook express from microsoft outlook

Use the "Import" feature of Outlook Express. if you choose to import "All" folders, it will include all messages and contacts data. or you can choose to import only contacts and not messages.

Obviously, it requires that both Outlook & Outlook Express are currently installed on the same PC.
Go here for a short tutorial: http://www.ehow.com/how_6374425_import-outlook-outlook-express.html

However, it must be pointed out that, for backup purposes, it's much easier to back up data in Outlook than is the case with Outlook Express.

I have a file in C:\My Documents\My Pictures which contains a photo I took with my digital camera. The file is Type IrfanView and the size is 902kb, and it has a .tif extension. When I open the file, I see the photo I took.

A few days ago, when I was experimenting with my new camera, I went to my Hotmail account through Outlook Express and emailed the file to my daughter, with a copy to myself, as an attachment. The email shows up in my Hotmail inbox, but when I try to open the attachment I get an IrfanView error message telling me that "This is not a valid TIFF file.

WHY DOES THE ERROR MESSAGE TELL ME IT IS AN INVALID .TIF FILE WHEN IT IS SHOWN AS A .TIF FILE IN MY PICTURES?

Today, I went directly to my Hotmail account (not through Outlook Express) and opened up the email in my Hotmail inbox. But when I returned to my inbox I found that it showed the email as having been sent a second time and as having a size of 468kb. 2) I've been paying an annual subscription for Hotmail Plus which was necessary to use Outlook Express. Is there any reason I need to keep paying for this since I'm not using Outlook Express any more?

How do I use my msn.com e-mail in Outlook express...ie import it etc..

I can not find any where on the web that allows you to use it as a pop 3 etc etc ..

Some one advise...

Answer:Importing MSN not HOTMAIL in to Outlook express

ms knowledge base has this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q297790

<i>On the Servers tab, verify that the Incoming e-mail server is set to the following server:

pop3.email.msn.com

Verify that the Outgoing e-mail server is set to the following server:

smtp.email.msn.com

Click to select Log on using Secure Password Authentication.</i>

is the gist, but read the whole thing especially the secuare password part to make sure it works

Hotmail in Outlook Express has always worked well until yesterday. Now, whenever I am online and go into the hotmail inbox or Hotmail sent mail folder within Outlook Express, the open icon on each message starts changing from the open envelope to the closed envelope, which means I am unable to read the emails whilst offline. This happens very fast and it is difficult to stop the action. Why has this suddenly started happening? I have the latest live-update to Norton Antivirus and scanned all files today. The same with AdAware. My firewall is enabled. I have also downloaded and run the Microsoft Anti Spyware (Beta) today and no problems found.

Answer:Outlook Express won't send to Hotmail

It's possible.. try turning the OUTGOING email scan off, in Norton, and try it again to see if it works. The hotmail messages are sent differently than a pop3 server, so maybe its messing it up.
