IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Question: IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Hi- I will be very happy if someone can help me olve this mystery-

I'm using windows ME and IE 6.0- when i try to save a jpeg- the only file type that i can save it as- is a bitmap. If I try to open this "bitmap" that I have save to my disk- i get the "download file" dialog box that tells me that I am trying to download the file from my own hard drive- there is no way for me to open the file. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank You!

Preferred Solution: IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Can't really help you out much.
But there is a way to save in other formats.
In the name box add the image type to the name.

Like this Mypicture.jpg.
On the box that says file type it does not matter what it says when you add the file type to the name.

Now I have 1000's of .jpg files and only 6 .jpeg files. Some image programs will not open the .jpeg so don't use it. Use the .jpg.

Where are you getting these images from?
Are you sure you saved them as a image file or did you save the link to the images?

Hi, everything used to be fine but I have recently noticed this problem and it is driving me nuts especially when I want to save an animated gif. The only option I get is to save as bitmap. If I clean out the tiff I can sometimes save a couple of pics in other formats but only a few, never a full page. The exception to this is that I can save animations as gif that are in emails (Incredimail), which is what leads me to think this is IE related. Like I said I have tried clearing my cache and also checked the downloaded programs folder. I am using IE6 on XP pro SP2 (updated regularly). Can anyone offer some suggestions or help please.

Answer:Can only save pics as bitmaps even after clearing cache.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

For starters, open your IE. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. In the Settings box, under Multimedia, click to select the Play animations in web pages check box, and then click OK.

Also on the Advanced tab, click to clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box, click View, and then click Refresh. The Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box is under the Security section.

See if you notice any change in IE's behaviour and post back.

Question: bitmaps jpegs

my problem is when i go to save a picture from the net it only gives me the option of saving as a bitmap and i want to save as jpeg files so how do i stop pictures saving as bitmaps and save them as jpegs

Answer:bitmaps jpegs

you will have to save the pictures as they are then convert them afterwards you cannot convert them on the fly. i suggest installing irfanview, then instal the irfanview shell extension which will allow you to convert an image from the local (right click) menu in a directory without actually opening an application.

1a) Any recommendations for other formats for web viewing?
2) What's the best procedure if jpg?
3) Which is the best software program to make slide shows for web viewing?

Answer:Bitmaps to what format?

It seems .gif and .jpg are the prefered formats for web viewing( bitmap file sizes are to large)
Irfranview is a great free image viewer that will also do batch conversions and create slide shows but I'm not sure you can use them for web viewing.

others will be along on that

Hi wondering if its possible to work on JPGs & Bitmaps and the like that have been scanned as an original document and posted on the net, when I mean work on them, is there anyway I can resize them to the size I want i.e. from an oblong to a square and write on them, then print them out as a CD or VCD cover graphic, I just want to save my holidays VCDs with a cover that reflects the holiday, for example time spent in San Fransisco, I wanted a picture of the Golden gate bridge with San Fransisco in the background.

Answer:Re: JPGs & Bitmaps, is it possible?

Ditto/copy what robo said.

IrfanView for resizing; MS Paint for working with bitmaps to add font text.

If you really want to WRITE on these pix when they're the right size and shape, one easy way to do THAT is print a great clean copy on photo paper, then write what you want with a good quality fine-point felt-tip (cheap pens will smear) and PHOTOPCOPY the result on a good quality color copier (Kinko's has 'em for not too much per copy).

And there are better ways, but they're all more work, and not worth it. You're not working on art for the museum: these are CD covers.

I recently re-installed win98 SE and for some strange reason I did not get MSpaint on my O/S, which I use for my rough art designs, so I opened my windows disc and found it manually, but now when I try to open a BMP file it opens the 'open with' window, and when I select 'always use this program...' it will not open, only to refresh the 'open with' window (if I don't check the box it opens...but that would be irritating to always have to do that). I realized the filetype BMP does not exist in folder options so I tried to create it, and thought it was successful, as the icon turned into the BMP icon, but when I double-clicked the file it gave the error message "Unable to locate file C:\My.bmp". What do I need to add to the fields in filetypes to avoid this message and straighten this mess out? Am I missing an important file perhaps?

Answer:strange problems with bitmaps

Paint is obviously not installed properly.

Try removing it completely, then use Add/Remove Window Components and reinstall it. (Not sure if that is the exact terminology as my memory on 98 SE is rusty)

When i try to save ajpeg i am forced to save it as a bitmap. The drop down menu where i should be able to select the file type to save my only option is bitmap.

Yes the pics i'm trying to save are jpg and yes i know i can just type in the extension i.e. .jpg but when saving a jpeg it should automatically be saved as a jpeg.

The annoyance occurs when it labels the pic as untitled and forces me to retype the file name and add the proper extension.

Is there a setting or something somewhere i need to change, so that it goes back to the default setting of just saving as the file type it is?

Awhile back our bitmap files got re-assigned to a different program. Today I re-associated them with MSPaint. However, when I double-click on a bitmap icon, I get the following error message:

C:\My.bmp was not found.

This looks to me like the program is having trouble with the file path. But how do I fix it? Is it in the registry?

We are running Windows 98 with the included version of Paint. I will post more detailed information on our system if it's needed.

Thank you.

Answer:MSPaint can't open bitmaps

When you set the association it must have set the wrong file path, namely C:\My.bmp.

I haven't used 98 for a while, but you will need to go into Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options (or whatever 98 calls it), then the File Types tab and scroll down to BMP and change the parent program and file path in there.

As I said I don't use 98 so cannot give exact steps, but that is the basic method.

If all else fails you could uninstall then reinstall paint which should reset the associations.

This is also happening to me.

I have a further complication, associated with this I cannot view animated gifs on web pages.

I would be interesting in knowing whether this complication is shared by others?

I have installed SP1 and this only happened after I attempted to save an animated gif from a greeting card site. I suspect that something from that site, masquerading as security, may have caused the problem?

I am unable to save any jpg or gif file from any web page.

The only available option is "untitled.bmp".

Also associated with this I am unable to view any animated gifs on web pages with the animation showing. My existing animated gif files display fine.

I have:
deleted temporary intermet files,
run chkdsk,
deleted temp files,
checked that "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" in Tools, Options, Advanced Tab
is NOT selected.
Checked that the address (URL) does NOT contain usernameasword (known knowlege base problem)
Checked that option "play animation" IS selected.

(Anyone with this problem should check/try each of the points above.)

I am unable to find any reference at all in the MS Knowledge Base.

Having technical difficulties with large images. Bitmaps seem to be saved differently depending on the program doing the saving.

Programs used:

Photoshop CS5 Etended; Gimp 2.6.10; Infranview

I am doing some image enlargements for a game experiment. Without going into unneeded detail, I am increasing the size of the game world through some created tools. The tools used extract some of the image files from the game in .bmp format. The process after the images are extracted should be simple, "make the image larger". For now I am doing some experiments to become familiar with the programs and am simply doubling the image sizes. Here are the images I am using right now:
(LEGEND: O=Original Size, D=Doubled Size, T=Tripled Size)

1) O=12288x9216 pixel bitmap (.bmp) ; D=24576x18432 ; T=36864x27648

2) O=13056x9792 pixel bitmap (.bmp) ; D=26112x19584 ; T=39168x29376

3) O=12288x9216 pixel raw (.raw) ; D=24576x18432 ; T=36864x27648

The real problem is the tools that I am using to increase the image sizes. When I use Photoshop to increase the image size the way it saves the bitmap makes it so other programs cannot read the file (including GIMP). When I use GIMP to increase the image size it will increase it properly (although taking a very long time) but it won't save the file giving me a "glib error" which as I understand is related to virtual memory, even though I have allocated about 12 gigabytes of virtual memory for each program ... I am attempting to change the look of task manager in such a way that the bars which indicate the CPU / RAM usage under the Performance tab are a rainbow instead of all green. I had initially thought I could do this by opening up taskmgr.exe with a program such as resource editor, editing the appropriate bitmaps (103, 104, 125), and then saving them.

Of course, when I tried to save, I ran into the classic "System error code 5: Access is denied" message. Same old same old. I took ownership of everything relevant already (I think...?)

So then I thought, why don't I just make a copy of taskmgr.exe, edit that one, change the bitmaps in there, overwrite the original file with the copy! This resulted in task manager not being able to load at all. In order to restore functionality, I replaced the new taskmgr.exe with a copy of the original from my desktop.

This makes me think that there might be some sort of hash function that wasn't checking out or something, but I don't know why there would be one.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do from here?

I frequently insert bitmaps into Word documents using Snag-It 5. In Word 97, I could edit a bitmap simply by double clicking on it. The picture would appear, enlarged, in a separate window for editing. In Word 2002, double-clicking on a bitmap image usually brings up the Format Picture box (which is no help), though sometimes it brings up the edit window instead.

I need the ability to edit all bitmaps in a separate window. How can I do this in Word 2002?

just lately when i use the save picture function there is only an option to save as bitmap file type. even though the pics are Jpeg, giff whatever.

it only happens in internet explorer, online and seems to only happen on pages i go to, or new sites (not on homepage).

i have recently had some auto dialer worm its way on the machine but i'm pretty sure i killed it.

i have reset the defaults and cleaned out most of the active X stuff. i also killed a jpeg script in the file asoc. but it didn't seem to be the problem. (although i think i made a different one...)

it isn't impossible that i have a virus but i can't find it. i haven't heard of one doing this sort of thing.

i'm running 98 with IE 6.0 and am getting to the reinstall IE and mayby windows. of course i don't want to do either

anyone have any ideas?

Hey All,

Wondering if anyone knows how I can fix this.

A few days ago, I noticed when I wanted to save an image from a web page, Internet explorer was only allowing me to save them as Bitmaps.

So I did some digging on Google and found many sites, offering exactly the same solution.

1) Clear the Temporary Internet Files
2) Check in Downloaded Program Files for any installed software that was marked as "Damaged".
3) Move the Temporary Internet Files folder to a different location.

I've tried all of the above and it has not solved my problem at all.

I've also reset IE7 and IE8. It made no difference.

The last attempt I made to fix this (which was also the last possible solution I found) was re-registering the mshtml.dll.

However, I get the following error message when I try doing this:

The Module "mshtml.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer
was not found. Make sure that "mshtml.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and
then try again.

So I tried to unregister it and then register - Same error as above.

Within Downloaded Program Files folder there are only 2 things installed (neither marked as damaged) - "Shockwave Flash Object" and "System Requirements Lab". It won't let me uninstall either of these, only gives me the option to call up a Properties window on each and nothing in this window allows me to alter these.

I upgraded my browser to IE8 just to see if that made any difference and it di... Read more

I'm having that problem where any picture I save off the internet is saving itself as a bitmap, but unlike in the past, emptying the temporary internet files folder isn't working. If I just type ".jpg" at the end of the filename, it will save itself as a JPEG, but in a much larger file size than it should be. (I am using Windows XP Home.)

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but the last program I've installed for a while is "Tracks Eraser Pro". Other than that, I can't think of any changes I've made.

Answer:Solved: JPEGs save as Bitmaps: Need new solution

Simply changing the extension only makes you think it's a jpg, the larger file size tells you it's still a bitmap.

The rule is simple, you cannot change a file type by manually changing the extension. You only think it's changed but fundamentally it's the same as it was.

Your cure is probably here though.;en-us;810978

I have an excel 2000 file (size: 12.5MB). The file is stored on a NT file server. The server is connected on a switch (A). The client PC that tried to access the file is on a BNC cable connection that connects to a 10Mbps hub and this hub connects to another 10Mbps hub and this hub goes to the switch (A). The problem happened when the user tried to update the Excel file. He opened it from the server. He made some modifications to the data and then he pressed the saved button. Excel 2000 begun saving (file.xls) and finally the following error message appeared on screen: "DOCUMENT SAVED SUCESSFULLY. CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO LOW MEMORY. PLEASE CLOSE THE DOCUMENT". If I press OK button then the document will be damaged and will not be opened again, so I tried to save it again. I pressed the save option but instead of saving it, I noticed that the SAVE AS dialog box appeared. I thought that something wrong is going on. I saved the Excel file on the SERVER using another filename (file2.xls). The saving process was successful. I closed Excel 2000 and I loaded again. I am using Windows 8 with IE10 and for some weird and wonderful reason, the "reopen last session" is greyed out. I saw on the Windows 7 forum that there was a download fix for that but didn't dare to take that on for Windows 8.
Any ideas as to a simple fix for this snag?

Answer:Reopen last session greyed out

Hello Gloosecap,

The Reopen Last Browsing Session option would only not be grayed out if there was an actual last session to reopen. If you cleared your browser history after closing IE10, then there will be nothing to reopen.

If that wasn't the case, then you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to enable Reopen Last Browsing Session in IE10 to see if that may help.

Given the serious nature of some questions here, mine seems silly. Yesterday I received and opened up new laptop with Windows 8. New experience for me. Without realizing what it was, I set up and then closed my
Windows account. I realize now I need to keep it open. Can you tell me how to reopen the account?
Thanks, Markfm3213

Can anybody get me in contact with Acer? I want to reopen my support case because my laptop is starting to die again, even after they "fixed" it.
Because my warranty is supposedly a week out of date I am unable to get in contact with a single person from Acer to tell them to reopen [edited for privacy] because their support clearly did not solve the problem. I am experiencing the exact same problem that led to my needing to send in my laptop. It is worsening and probably going to lead to a huge nasty crash again.
And I have reason to believe that the cause is bad hardware that my Acer Aspire Nitro was shipped with, because THIS time, when I saw the BSODs, I looked them up. I've been receiving a "Kernel Data Inpage Error" which apparently means that my memory or my hard drive is faulty. (And yes, I did the recommended things on that page. Nothing has helped or identified a problem. At all.)
This issue SHOULD be covered under warranty, not only because it is an issue that started during the year of warranty, but ALSO because Acer claimed to have fixed the issue but DID NOT, and ALSO because their warranty clearly states "Acer warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the Limited Warranty Period" and my computer CLEARLY CAME WITH FAULTY HARDWARE.
My SNID is [edited for privacy]. My case is and was [edited for privacy]and I believe I have the right to continued Acer support in this ma... Read more

Answer:I need to reopen an issue with acer

Hi lsilich04,
We have to have some date for the warranty to end, but we certainly aren't interested in leaving you out in the cold less than a week out. I was able to locate your information and the US service team updated the warranty through the end of the month. This will allow you to contact and setup services as needed.
In reading your post, I would have to disagree that a kernel error means a hardware error. The Kernel is part of the core of the Windows operating system and is completely software, when that crashes, it would result in the bluescreens and lockups. When your unit was in originally, I show that memory tests and hard drive tests were done, and a reload of the operating system corrected the issue. Now, after 3 months, you're starting to experience blue screens again, and I would suspect that some corruption has occured in the operating system. With all of this said, I would suggest attempting a recovery first, see how the system behaves. If there was a hardware error, it would also fail during the recovery process.

I'm using safe mode w networking at the moment to get onto the net right now, but in normal mode, I open IE and whilst it will initially load my home page with no problem, after a few seconds it will "Recover" or try to recover the tab, and will do this repeatedly until IE freezes. I've run MBAM and it hasn't helped, and I've tried various troubleshooting processes. The internet connection appears to be OK (I'm using wireless, not LAN). Can anyone help with this? It was working fine up until about 2pm this afternoon when I left it in standby for a few hours, but when I picked it up about half 6, I suddenly found IE wasn't working.I'm running IE8, and I'm using an XP Home Edition OS. I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell XPS410. When I close Internet Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, I often (but not always) get a message "Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Outlook) has stopped working" and then the program will reopen by itself. As Outlook reopens, I get a message that it was not closed properly and it's checking for errors, and lately I'm also asked if I want to reopen in Safe Mode. Occasionally I'll get a message that IE has stopped working even when I don't close it myself, and all pages will close.

Not sure if this is a related problem or not, but occasionally I have emails that stay in the outbox even after sending (and stay open on the monitor after I hit "send"), but they also show up in the Sent box, so it's difficult to know if they actually were sent. I believe (but I'm not sure) that it's only happening when they have multiple photos attached, so they are large emails and I'm sending them on a 28.8k dialup modem, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Sara welcome to Seven Forums,
I'm glad you took my advise in asking your question here,
Hopefully someone can help soon with your interesting problem, and loaded startup menu,
Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

I tried to open the Excel file (file.xls) but the opening failed with the following error message: "FILE file.xls is not in recognizable form ". After that I tried to open the file2.xls and I SUCCEEDED IN OPENING IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

I just wrote a long post and it disappeared while trying to run that spell check on it. Very annoying.

Here, again, is my problem:

When I close IE 8 or 9 with several tabs open, and later reopen it, the option to reopen or restore the last browsing session is ALWAYS grayed out in both the menu under Tools and on the New Tab pages.

I had a nasty rootkit infection of volsnap.sys that was mostly affecting IE, which was detected and removed by ComboFix with help from MajorGeeks, just a week or two ago.

Since it was always changing the mischief it did, mostly regarding IE, I suspect that "part of it" is still on my machine.

A MS support forum led me through several steps to try to fix this, including uninstalling and reinstalling IE 9. Then they gave up and said I had to reformat my HD and reinstall my OS. I suspect that wouldn't be enough...

I really depend on this function, and have used IE for many, many years, and don't want to switch browsers. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:reopen last browsing session grayed out in IE

Reformatting and reinstalling your OS most definitely will get rid of any nasties present on your system. If you do a clean install, as suggested, I'll be your browser's behavior returns to normal.

In a situation where I have a grouped set of windows (Chrome, Skype, EtC.) and have to minimize any of them, it's a hassle to open them again. I can get windows to open the previews by clicking on the group, but anything within the previews won't work. Right click closes previews. Left click closes previews.
Mind you, I can still get to them. Alt+Tab works, as does Super+Tab. It's just annoying to always have to go that way, especially as I'm using two monitors and have my taskbar on the one that makes it less obtrusive.
I can temporarily fix the problem by restarting, but it takes forever, and I just simple don't like having to restart. I will every once in a while, but again, it doesn't fix the problem. It just delays it.
The only potential cause I can figure out is when I do have to close chrome, I tend to do it by ending the task. This ensures I can recover my tabs that I had open. I don't know if this is the cause, but it's the only thing that seems potentially related, simply due to it being done in relative close proximity to the problem showing up.
I've tried restarting the desktop management system (DWM), changing themes, disabling and reenabling grouping. Nothing is fixing it.
Again, I can get by without it... it's just a major annoyance, and a block to productivity.
Also, if it's a single window, clicking on the task bar icon opens the windows. Once it's a group, then I'm screwed.

I've upgraded to Windows 10 and so far so good. I'm not sure if this is a question for W10 or for the Edge browser...? When opening the browser, I used to be able to see the Top Sites visited, and reopen closed tabs, sometimes even the previous session, and also sites visited on my Windows Phone. Now, I only get 'Top sites' and the MSN news feed. So far I can only find settings to set to open new tabs to Top Sites or a blank page. I'd prefer to be able to easily find recently closed tabs rather than searching through history. And being able to see and open sites from Windows Phone was nice, why is that no longer available?

Answer:How can I reopen closed tabs in Edge?

I guess IE11 could sync my desktop with my other devices including my phone. Not seeing any settings for this in Edge.

I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?

I recently purchased a wider screen for my computer. I use a bunch of photos to illustrate things. When I was using a laptop. there was no particular need to have pics that were much larger than 500x500 pixels. And so I have been going back and downloading newer pics around 1000-1550 pixels so they are not as grainy on the new screen.

The whys of what I am doing are not important. The problem I have is that when I find a new pic and download say around 1000x1000, the folder insists on saving it as either the dimensions of the original or at 225x225 pixels even when I am asking it to replace the original. This gets even weirder - even though I delete the original and then download the newer, larger copy, it is still saving it as the dimensions of the original.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to stop the folder resizing pics like this?

I have Windows 8.1 using IE11 and I am unable to reopen browsing history. It is always gray shaded. It doesn't matter how I close it or if I reboot. If I close IE and reboot, it's gray shaded. If I don't close every tab - just leave them all open and close IE - then open IE again without restarting, it is gray shaded.

I seen some other posts about this that aren't quite the same problem (and/or haven't been resolved) and someone mentioned that it's gray shaded because there is no browsing history to reopen. Trust me, there is. I don't delete my browsing history after each session. Besides, everything is in my history folder - my browsing history is just fine. I just can't reopen previous sessions.

I have not been able to find help anywhere so I thought I'd finally ask.

I just downloaded internet explorer 9. Previously, I was using IE8. Every day, when ie8 would open up (it would load automatically at startup from AOL IM), I would go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, and all the tabs and pages I had open when I closed my previous session would load (though in reverse order left to right, annoyingly).

Now that I'm running IE9, when I go to Tools -> Reopen last browsing session, the option is greyed out - it does not work. The only time it works is if I close IE9 and then reopen the browser without rebooting. If I reboot, which I do every day, the option is not available like it used to be in IE8. (Seems like every time I download an updated version of anything anymore, something inevitably stops working or is worse than it was before - this soooo tiresome.)

I've tried a regedit I found somewhere on these forums - setting for 'turn off reopen last browsing session' to 'disable'. Didn't work.

I do not have IE9 set to delete my browsing history on exit.

I have the box checked for Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility view.

So, currently I'm out of ideas - can't find anything else.

I would really appreciate it if anyone who knows what is going on with this could share.

Answer:IE9 Reopen Last Browsing Session option is not working

So does anyone else have this problem? Since the Reopen Last Browsing Session is kind of a deal breaker, I would have thought that there'd be a fix by now. But maybe the fix is to uninstall IE9 afterall. So much for IE9. Firefox and Chrome do this anyway, correctly, even WITHOUT having to select an option. I'd skip IE altogether if I didn't need it for work.

Answer:A problem with this web page caused IE to close and reopen

You could try IE Reset, "IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button". You lose your add-ons but they soon come back with usage. Your favorites etc are retained. Is this only on one webpage? If so give us the link in case that tells us something. If you have an alternative browser does it happen on there too?I suppose malware is a vague possibility but it doesn't obviously fit the symptoms.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

For example, if I use the show desktop button on bottom right of taskbar, it minimizes all windows. If I then open up one window, normally just that window opens, however if there was a fullscreen/borderless windowed application running as well, it will also restore that window. Any way to prevent this?

Thanks very much!

Something odd just happened. After installing the latest set of patches today and rebooting. After I logged back in all of the previous programs I had open before the log off started back up automatically. Does anyone have any explanation for this behavior? I don't want this to happen.

Answer:Apps reopen themselves after first login after patch Tuesday update

Hello Bob,

This would be the new behavior in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

If you like, the information at the top of the tutorial below can provide workarounds including the Shut down context menu to help with this.

I have tried upgrading from IE9 to 11 on both my Windows 7 computers. One worked with no problems, but the other gives repeated problems despite trying a number of things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled four or five times but the problems remain.
1. History gets wiped out and remains blank no matter how many sites I visit.
2. I have to re-enter user name/password every time I leave a site and return
3. If I click new tab it is always blank and the option to reopen last session is greyed out

I even tried IE10 but had the same problems.

Hey everyone,

I'm a college kid who has been having major issues with my laptop, I'm desperate for some help.

The problems:
My Wifi cuts out at random, and after that my laptop won't reconnect- or connect to any wifi- until I either close the lid, wait for the green light to go off, then reopen, or I restart. This always temporarily fixes the problem. (This actually happened when I first tried to submit this post, so I have to retype the whole thing . This happens within anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours from when I reconnect to wifi, and it seems to be somewhat correlated to me opening new tabs (or submitting a new post ). I don't use my laptop for anything other than casual browsing and school work, so I don't have any weird programs that might cause this. No single event started this, but it's been happening for months. I'd really appreciate any help.

Computer is only 1 year old, just started kicking me off web sites with different reasons ie: Explorer stopped working, Problems with web site caused tab to close and reopen, some others I can't remember but it is happening too frequently!

Answer:Messages, ie: Unexpected problem caused tab to close and reopen, and others

I would uninstall McAfee and run the McAfee Removal Tool. You can reinstall it, if desired, after testing.

If the above does not fix it try an IE reset.

I am uusing Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 7 Ultimate and have been getting the error message: "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." on a variety of websites. At the suggestion of some troubleshooting sites I have uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it --- this seems to make a temporary fix, but in a couple of days the problem returns. I have done the same with JAVA with no change.
The problem seems to reside in Internet Explorer, since it does not occur with I use Firefox. Anyway, the error slows down my computer when using the web.

Answer:Solved: A problem with this webpage caused I.E. to close and reopen the tab.
