How to disable two finger touch

Question: How to disable two finger touch

Hi, I'd like to disable the two finger touch on my elan touchpad because it's very annoying. How can i do? With the factory installed driver the ELAN setting program was not working, so I installed many different versions of the driver, but every time I change the settings in the ELAN setting program nothing changes.I own a Inspiron 15 7000 series 7559 with windows 10.Thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: How to disable two finger touch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I recently purchased an XPS 15 9560, Windows 10 and am having the trackpad dead zone issue (the pointer does not move until I move my finger about 1/4"at which point it has perfect response / tracking / precision). Each time I start to move the pointer using the trackpad I must go through the dead zone prior to the pointer responding normally. The dead zone appears to be a circle around the spot that I touch the trackpad.
When I disable the HID trackpad device in device manager, this dead zone problem is eliminated. Is there a way to access the trackpad driver registry settings to see if there is something I can change that will eliminate the dead zone?
Alternatively, is there a way to find out which trackpad brand I have that will allow me to try a different driver? I tried the Synaptics fix but I was not happy with the two finger scroll performance even after changing the registry settings.
Thank you,
Joe

Hello All - I just noticed that my multi-touch (not enhanced multi-touch) screen no longer responds to finger touch; just pen. It used to respond to both before i upgraded to Windows 7.I tried the Lenovo diagnostic check for the touch screen, and during the test, it only responded to the pen. What should I do? Is there a certain driver i'm missing or need to uninstall and then re-install?Thanks in advance.

Answer:Post Windows 7 Upgrade - Touch Panel Not Responding to Finger Touch (x200t)

Ok...I think i really screwed something up. As per a Lenovo support tech's advice, i installed the Windows 7 "Enhanced" Multi-touch Driver, even though i do not have the enhanced multi-touch screen, and this is what it says on Lenovo's site about this new driver: "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the Multitouch are NOT supported." "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the ENHANCED Multitouch ARE supported." So, i go ahead and install it. I notice that finger touch now works, but the pen setting are now all screwed up! The eraser no longer responds when i turn the pen around to erase. It actually INKS with the eraser as well! OneNote no longer automatically starts inking (or erasing) when i bring the pen (or eraser) into range. I have to manually click on the pen icon (or the eraser icon) on the tool bar to use these functionalities! *groan* In the Tablet PC Input Panel: no eraser functionality (it inks instead!!) and even the button on the pen (which previously had the right-click ability) only inks when pressed down! I think i made my situation worse...Please Help! Adam

I have ThinkPad X230 Tablet. It used to have non-functioning touch screen. I did something, and now the screen responds to pen input, but it doesn't work properly for finger touch. When I touch with finger, only thing it does is minimize or maximize window. When I change position of taskbar (with start menu and icons), it doesn't maximize/minimize.  I think this means that when I touch with finger, cursor clicks at bottom right corner of display, where there is button for maximize/minimize window

I was informed by an X41 tablet seller on e-bay that  he was unable to use the X41 tablet by touching the screen  with the finger. Is this true? Is there some magic  to get finger touch working ?thanks

Answer:finger touch on an X41

Hi netbeans, welcome to the forum, afaik, X4* tablets didn't have this capability. Depending on model X6* tablets do.So if you want to give your tablet "the finger" it had better be an X6* tablet.

Probably. I have a 7448CTO that does. I don't think it's a multitouch, either. Should be the same hardware.

Hello, I have a Thinkpad X61 (7762WFX) at work.  Then pen works fine, but I was under the impression that I should be able to interact with just my finger on the screen.  If this is indeed the case, how do I go about doing that.  I have updated the multitouch drivers to the newest. I am on Windows 7 Professional. Thanks!

Hi rigwad and welcome to the community,

Some screens are pen only and some are pen and touch.

Go into control panel, system. About the middle of the page it will say pen and touch.  What does it say after that?  Does it say that you have pen and touch?

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

I am an older person who uses my ThinkPad X120e away from the office quite a bit.  In the last few years my hands have become increasingly shaky.  What is happening is that when I move my finger around on the touchpad the cursor will pass over icons and buttons on the screen.  Often my finger gives an inadvertent bounce and whoops I just selected an ad or feature I did not intend to select.  So my question:  Is there a way to disable the select on tap function of the touchpad?  I still want to use it to navigate but prefer to use the keys to do the selecting because of my unsteady hands. Note to Marketing types - There are an increasing number of us old farts who are looking for ways to stay active on line in spite of our impairments. Thanks for any help, hoping this is a simple adjustment I have not found yet.

Answer:Can I disable the 'touch select' and multi touch features on my touchpad

Oceanglenn, welcome to the forum,

if you go to mouse settings in control panel you can disable this function by removing the "tick" in enable tap zones, or adjust it to how it's comfortable for you;

Alternatively you can also reach the settings by using the key combination Fn + F8

Hope this helps

I am using windows journal a having problems that I can not turn off finger input when writing with a pen. The screen becomes insensitive to a finger when I am about an inch away from the screen with the pen, but this is not enough to avoid accidental dots and lines with your finger. Can one either configure the pen distance from the screen from which on finger touch is disabled? Or can one disable finger touch altogether? I have been following some discussions on forums providing some workarounds, but maybe there is a simpler solution around?138

I am in an IT department at a small clinic in Idaho.  We have several X220's and X230's here.   There are several machines that have issues with the touch screen just stopping.  Nothing with the pen/finger will work.  The mouse still works, but nothing with the pen. We created a script that restarts the TabletInputService, the docs would run this script when the pen stops working.  That script works a majority of the time, but not always.  One of our docs just received a brand new X230 Type 3435-2TU 2 weeks ago.  She pen has stopped working several times in that two weeks.  She said that script only works a few times.  She has to reboot for it to work again....so rebooting works.  We can't have docs rebooting 3-4 times a day. Does anyone know of a permanent fix for this? Please help!!Desperate IT Guy!!

Hi, I have been baffled by this issue for quite a while now. I have a lenovo X220 tablet that supports both finger and pen inputs for touch. Originally this laptop came with windows 7 and everything was fine and dandy. I then bought windows 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit and did a clean installation of it. Now I only have pen support for the touchscreen, i.e. my finger is recognized as a pen/mouse not a finger which is really frustrating specially when scrolling. Now before I actually purchased the win8 license I had tried out the windows 8 release preview and everything worked perfectly then. So now when I got the actual release of the OS its not. Furthermore I currently have a dual-boot set up with windows 10 technical preview as my other OS and in there it also works perfectly fine as it should. This is important because when I contacted lenovo about the issue they suggested that my screen was broken, but clearly it is not.  Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It is a real shame not to be able to take advantage of this fine screen and windows 8 touch friendlyness.  Kind regards.

Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum, from my first lenovo PC, so I'm truly a newbie. Just picked up my brand new x220t from a local reseller, and tried to configure it to fit my needs. During the process I realized I'm not able to configure the touchscreen nor use it. The digi-pen works fine though. 1. I've checked under Control Panel | Pen & Touch Devices. This window should have 4 tabs (the last on the right should read Touch), but it ain't there as if some functionality was missing. 2. I also tried to turn the touch screen on/off via Simple Tap. It does inform me that I'm about to switch the touch screen off (and as a matter of fact I'm not able to use it wth my fingers) but when I turn it on again the touchscreen still doesn't react to my fingers. 3. I've downloaded all the win7 as well as lenovo updates via the update managers, installed them and did a complete restart of the system - still no touchscreen. 4. Under device Manager I tried to find Wacom  devices, but couldn't find any. (the touch screen is a Wacom, am I correct?) 5. In despair I even started reading the pdf manual where one can read:  "Some models have the touch panel feature". This left me a little bit uneasy. Do ALL x220 convertible tablets have finger sensitive touchscreens? I have read the sticky thread about conventional vs. multitouch lenovo tablets, and I gather that the answer should be yes - all have finger input besides digi-pen. ... Read more

Answer:x220t - NYK27PB - no finger touch input

The models with the outdoor screen (the one that has a reinforced gorilla glass surface) don't have multi-touch, only pen support. If your model doesn't have the outdoor screen then it should have multi-touch support, if that is the case perhaps you should contact tech support? It's possible that it's just a hardware problem and needs replacing.  Also, the pen digitiser uses Wacom technology, as far as I'm aware the multi-touch system doesn't.

I hope I'm not making a mistake, I have a 6364-BV2, I assume it's multitouch (as long as the pen works, should finger touch work as well?) and I'm not able to use my fingers to touch anything on the screen. It's the low-rez version... I tried installing the multitouch driver but for nothing... I have xp tablet edition... Is it possible that my tablet doesn't actually have multitouch (finger touch capability) and only the pen is supposed to work? Thanks

Answer:x60 multitouch issue: finger touch won't work

Not all screen are multitouch capable, the pen have a special proximty device that the sensors on a layer on top of the screen picks up, unless the screen also has an additional sensor sheet for your finger, it would not work with your finger... There are two types of screen option one is Multitouch and Non-multitouch in the XGA format, and SXGA format is definitely non multi-touch.

Answer:Can't start X1 Carbon touch from finger print reader

Hi Lebouitz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that you are not able to start your Lenovo X1 carbon Touch using the fingerprint reader.

I would suggest you to try the following steps.

To enable power-on passwords replacement:

Login as administrator.
Start Fingerprint Software.
Click Settings.
Click Authentication.
Check Always show power-on Security Option if power-on passwords are not set.
Check Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on and hard drive passwords.
Check enable single sign-on capability if you want to boot from power-on to windows without further fingerprint swipe or passwords.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)

To enable power-on replacement for fingerprint swipe:

Start Fingerprint Software.
Authenticate with password or enrolled fingerprint.
Click the Power-on slot on the top of the enrolled fingerprint.
Close Fingerprint settings and shutdown system.
On the first reboot you will be asked for your password and fingerprints. The second time you reboot it will only require your fingerprint.

Try to install the following driver:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74908

If the driver installation doesn't help, subsequently try Windows Update, look particularly for Touch Input driver, if even that doesn't take you anywhere, then give factory restore a go (after backing up your data), to do so, press ThinkVantage button on boot to access Rescue and Recovery, and choose restore to factory contents in the following wizard. Note that factory restore is only available on lenovo preloaded OS.

Keep us posted.

Hello,Recently my brother bought a refurbished x230t type 3437-XE1.Spec: windows 7, processor i7, 8gb ram. Since I tried it today, I was never able to get the finger touch to work (no tablet touch screen function at all), but  the stylus pen seems to work perfectly. Also, the simple tap gesture (double clicking with two fingers on the pad) doesnt seem to work.I dont know whether some settings are not correct or the refurbished product has its faults. Please assist me in how to solve the problems.thank you.

Hi all,
I'm currently operating with a Dell Latitude (E6410) running Windows 7 32-bit. I have the default Alps touchpad built-in, and was recently ecstatic to find the driver for multi-touch on the Dell Support page, something I figured I'd never get privileged to since this doesn't have a Synaptics touchpad.
Everything works as it;s supposed to, as far as the options go under the Dell Pointing Devices menu. However, I noticed that two-finger options are missing, specifically a two-finger right click. This is odd, seeing as there are plenty of other two-finger options, and since two-finger right click has become a standard with multi-touch touchpads.
So my question is, is there anything I can do to get two-finger right click? I don't see any options officially provided by Dell, so I'm totally okay with installing software or drivers from somewhere else, as long as they work. I haven't been able to find anything myself, as it seems every driver and software in the world is developed with Synaptics in mind.

Answer:Two-Finger Right Click with Dell Multi-touch Touchpad?

I have the exact same question. I see that this was posted 3 years ago without a solution / reply :(

I have an x201 tablet and often use the pen with One Note. With Windows 10, it is impossible to lift the pen the slightest bit off the tablet without reactivating finger sensitivity. The result is that I get a bunch of scribbles from my hand touching the screen, and also inadvertantly hit other tabs etc while trying to write.Any suggestions?

Hi I finally decided to upgrade my 4 year old Ideapad Y550 and I am quite happy with my U310 so far. One thing I would like to change though, I've gotten used to one-finger scrolling using my Y550 and I would like to have that back. Is there any way in the U310 to chage to one-finger scrolling from two-finger scrolling? Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad U310 Touch single finger scrolling

This is based on the Elan touchpad. Do you think the one finger scrolling is similar to the edge swipe? Maybe its not enable. Two or more finger scrolling is under multifinger configuration menu. But there is no scrolling option in One finger menu but only the edge swipe option.

Dear all, I'm Rob and I'm trying to configurate my new Thinkpad T470s. But I've a kind of specific problem with the touchpad. Because of my disability I cannot use my fingers seperatly, but instead I glide with my whole hand over my touchpad. About two or three fingers are touching the touchpad at the same time. My problem is that the mouse won't move as soon as more than one finger touches the touchpad.I went through all of the settings, disabled all of the gestures, but the problem stays the same. With my other laptops I just disabled all of the movements and it worked just fine, In the Lenovo settings there's such a setting. I hope someone understands my problem and know how to solve this.Thank you, Rob.

Hello. I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 from work and we use it to get customer signiture on a web browser page for the company I work for. however lately. when a customer is trying to sign in the signniture box, it just move the whole screen around in a similar way to moving the screen with your finger. the only way it writes is when you hold the stylus down for a scond or two and then write without lifting it. but every time it leaves the screen then the same problem happens again. I tried to fix it from the touch screen settings but nothing seems to work. and advice on fixing this is greatly appreciated.

Just 2 days ago, a Lenovo staff on chat said that the X220 Tablet with Outdoor Display supports touch inputs but only for single finger actions.  He was very sure but then several posts on this forum seem to indicate that it has only the pen input. Can someone please confirm? 2. If the Outdoor model supports single finger input, is the display capacitive touch? 3. On the Multi-touch model, will the 2-finger scrollling, 5-finger gestures, etc. work in every application or is it application dependent? Thanks much for your help.

Answer:Lenovo staff says Outdoor Display is one-finger touch activated

I have the Outdoor as of yesterday, and it is not a touch screen.  It is Pen input only.  Can't speak for the multitouch models. Cheers,Gigs

My 7840's touch pad "One Finger Scrolling" functionality has become inconsistent.  It had been working fine by using the 'DellTPad.exe' application and selecting (if memory serves) 'one finger gestures'.  That option is now gone however one finger scrolling still works for awhile, and then fails and the only option to scroll using two fingers. A reboot fixes it for awhile then it starts all over again.  This problem coincided with a recent round of updates, though the touch-pad driver was not one of those updates.
Any ideas out there?

I'm befuddled. Two finger scrolling in Windows 10 dialogs, applications and Internet Explorer/Edge all works perfectly. However, Chrome is far too sensitive and the page blazes past. I can't adjust the scroll speed in settings because that affects all other apps (in other words they'll become way too slow!) Just to make matters more confused I've also got a Logitech mouse and the scroll wheel works fine everywhere - and this means if I install an extension in Chrome to configure scroll speed to work with the touchpad I will have slowed it down to a painful rate using the scroll wheel. Any clues how to configure Chrome two finger scrolling correctly? Is this an issue with the trackpad or Chrome?

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch??(pen & finger)

Hi, btoymus23

I did some research on your machine and found its entry in the Personal Systems Reference. Machine type 3113-94U does not support MultiTouch, unfortunately. This information can be found in the link on page CML3-4 (use Ctrl+F to find it faster.)

MultiTouch, however, means to be able to use three distinct points on a touchscreen at once, not being able to use different touch inputs. I think you should be able to use your fingers to touch objects on the screen, though the pen might be easier.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I recently purchases the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 Inch and have found that I am unable to both disable palm tracking or use the two fingered right click tap function. I have gone into the mouse settings but still no help, it says that two finger tap is enabled but will not function, all the other touchpad gestures work perfectly. I have a hp pavilion touchsmart 15-n029so. Unfortunately my touch screen is defect, so 5-6 points on the screen is constant active. Until recently I managed to disable the driver for only the touch driver (not the screen) through device manager, but then a lately update for windows 10 activated the driver again. So now the 5-6 points is constant active, and I cannot login because the screen will not focus on the login field.  This means I cannot login to windows 10. I have also tried to start safe mode (turning off computer repeatly, so it starts up in safe mode), but here the touch screen driver is also active.  How can I disable the touch screen driver without login into windows 10?

Question: Disable Touch Pad

I have encountered Uncontrolled Scrolling on my older Dell Latitude computer, and have been advised that is caused (or, can be caused) by dirt, etc. on or in the Touch pad. Before finding time to take apart and clean, I figured I would simply disable the Touch Pad, and use a mouse for the first time in a while.

However, I can find NO reference to the touch pad in Control Panel anywhere!!! I also searched for any reference to Norton, symantics, touch pad, etc etc, and found nothing. The help files have no reference either.

Windows XP Home is installed, and I have had no issues to date.

Any thoughts would be helpful !!

Thanks .......... JBacon

Answer:Disable Touch Pad

You may have to press the Function Key and one of the F# keys to disable the touch pad, the key will likely have a picture of the touch pad on it.
Or download and install the Synaptics software: http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm
Once installed you should be able to disable the pad with it.

Answer:HP G72 Touch pad disable

Hello again John822179, It may have been a feature that was not included in the driver you are currently running. You can remove that driver and reinstall the original driver that came with your computer by following the instructions I am providing below: Step 1. Click StartStep 2. Click Control PanelStep 3. Click on Device ManagerStep 4. Click on Mice and other pointing devicesStep 5. Right-click on your mouse driver and select UninstallStep 6. Download and review the HP Support document: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). Use it to reinstall your Trackpad drivers that originally came with your computer. This should give you the functionality you are looking for back. Again thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

There seems to be no way disable the touch pad now that I have downloaded Windows 10.
I have tried through the control panel and also through the device manager. In both cases it says
it's uninstalling, says restart and each time the touch pad is still working. Is there any other way to
to disable it?

Answer:Can't disable touch pad.

Are you just uninstalling the driver in Device Manager? That's what I would infer from your post. If that's the case, don't uninstall it; rather, just right-click on the touchpad and choose Disable. If you uninstall the driver, Windows will merely re-install it after a reboot.

I won't be able to get a new one right now. So, can anyone tell me if it is possible to disable the "touch" feature, so I can continue to use it as if it weren't a touch monitor?
Thanks.

Hi IMA-USER,
Disconnect the USB upstream cable from the monitor to the system chassis. The touch works only if the USB upstream is connected.
Alternate option, go to device manager and expand human interface devices - and right click HID compliant touch device.

I have a Dell laptop model 1720. I have tried every suggestion made by numerous posts to google but I'm unable to disable my touch pad. Nothing seems to work. Dell had told me the only way to do this would be to return to factory settings. I originally purchased my computer with Vista and recently upgraded to Windows 7. With Vista, disabling the touchpad only required entering a check in a box. Now that I have Windows 7 the options are different. 'Touch Pad Pal' doesn't work at all.

Answer:Can't disable touch pad

Perhaps if you install the Windows Vista driver for the touchpad, it will work on Windows 7. That way, you can disable the touchpad via the software Dell provides for you. You can find the download link here.

I am unable to disable the touchpad. I see the small dot in upper left of touchpad, but double clicking upper left does nothing. There is no Touchpad Tab in the mouse device settings dialog.

Answer:Unable to Disable touch pad

Please try these steps : 1 ) Go to your control panel,  click on Hardware and Sound.   Once there, under Device and Printers, click on Mouse.  A small box (Mouse Properties) will open up.  Click on the "ClickPad Settings Tab". Once there you will click on "ClickPad Disable".  A small box will open up letting you know that you are about to disable the only active Synaptics pointing device, just click OK. You will then want to click apply, then OK.   That should take care of it. 2) Double tap here, and it lights up. Your Touchpad is now deactivated. Doube-tapping again reactivates it.  3) a) Right click a blank space on desktop,(b) Select Personalize,(c) Select "Change Mouse pointers",(d) Select "Click pad settings" tab(e) Disable and click apply/ok (note, you may want to turn on/off few options there).  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I've been using touch enabled desktop apps a lot lately (where this is even more of an issue), and I've been wondering, is there any way to disable the ALL of the touch effects, as in the little faint line when you swipe, or the dot when you tap, or the square when you press and hold to right click. I know that there is a setting in Ease of Access, but that just changes them to Windows 7 style effects, like the little dot when doing normal tasks, and the hand when clicking links, so, what I'm asking is, is there any way to disable all touch effects, like on iOS or Android?
