I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i have just purchased a preowned  ideapad z710.  i would like to remove the details of the previous owner and register the laptop in my name. Essentially, i need a fresh install.  How can I do this?  do i have to download a fresh copy of windows 8.1?  if so, from where?  will i get the ownership of the windows 8.1 operating system that is installed in this laptop or do i have to pay for the same again?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1

restart your laptop and spam f9 or F8 to get recovery menu off windows 8 from there you can then pick restore pc select full restore that will then wipe everything that previous owner had on the laptop so it will start from fractory mode where you will have to set it up yourself. Update: if this laptop has a onekey recovery button next to charger port is then press that button and follow restore steps from onerecovery system that boots up select reset or w.e it has so it will wipe your laptop and set it back to factory settings Update 2: it's actually next to power on and off button you should find a tiny button so power laptop off then press it and let it boot up into one key recovery software from there follow steps for reset

Took delivery of new Z710 on December 30th.  I am extremely disappointed.  This is the slowest computer I've worked with in a decade.  It takes 35 - 45 seconds to check a checkbbox.  More than a minute to refresh a page.  I am sick that I bought this machine.

Why don't you examine your options on how to reverse your decision in buying the unit (Like the possiblity of returning the unit with a full refund rather than keeping it and suffer all the dislikes that you found out regarding the unit)?

Hi guys, I was just a single click before purchasing Z710. It has all specifications I need, but the last moment I realized it has a Glare display! So I went on searching on new product, Z70-80.This appears to be the latest Lenovo version, have an anti-glare display, but the specifications are worse. So, why did Lenovo downgrade processor and disk on their new model? Z710: Intel Core i7-4710MQ quad core (2,5GHz L3 6MB) Max turbo frequency 3,5 GHzZ70-80: Intel Core i7-5500U (2.40 GHz, L3 4MB) Max Turbo Frequency 3 GHz Z710: SSHD 1TB SATA 2 (3 Gbit/s), 5400rpm + 8GB SSDZ70-80: 1TB Serial ATA 2 (3 Gbit/s), 5400rpm  Thank you for answers,Tedy

My notebook won't power up.  I replaced the power charger.  Is the battery required to be installed in the notebook for it to power up?  I tried starting the notebook with the battery in and out of it.  It won't power up. My local Microcenter took a look and said I need a new motherboard.  When the charger is plugged into the wall outlet and the notebook, none of the three 'power" LEDs light up.  The power connector on the notebook was tested and works correctly.  Am I sunk here and just need to bite the bullet and get the motherboard replaced?

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, I have an afterglow headset for gaming. It has a line out 3mm headphone jack on it, and a USB.
Usually, the USB controls the Mic, and the headphone jack controls the audio. But when I plug it in, the sound is coming through the USB (Chat volume), unless I plug it into another power source, like a wall charger for phones. Than the sound will come through the headphone/Line out jack, allowing me to use the Bass boost feature. My brother has the same headset, and it does the same on my computer, and I have no idea why. The sound sounds like garbage coming through the USB. Also my laptop only has one Line out jack. I think the Line in and Line out jacks are combined into one. I don't know if that is messing it up.
So when I have the USB and Line out plugged into my laptop, the sound level is controlled by moving the adjuster to the "Chat" volume, rather than the "Game volume". But if I plug the USB into a wall wart, and the headphone jack into the laptops line out jack, it's normal and controlled by the game volume adjuster on the headset. But than the MIC won't work since it's through the USB.
Any ideas??

Answer:Audio Issues With Lenovo Z710 Ideapad

USB headsets have their own built in "sound card" to convert the digital USB audio signal to analog so it can be heard in the headset. With USB, the PC's sound card is not used. With this information take another look at what you have or are doing.

Hello everybody, I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop and I seem to have troubles with the webcam. Though it is mentioned to be a HD webcam, the image is far from being clear...I update the drive from Lenovo website, but it was useless as the result is the same. Anyone else facing same issue? Anyone has an idea how to solve it? I also mention that the operating sistem on my laptop is Windows 8.1 64 bytes. Thank you,Simona

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad z710 webcam issues

Hi SimonaB,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with webcam in your Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop.

If this is a new system, there will a protective sheet on the camera lens check if that plastic sheet is removed due to which there would be blur issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

HI all,I purchased a lenovo ideapad Z710 laptop in December for work purposes. However, since the day of arrival it freezes up and hangs every 5-10 minutes for at least 1-2 minutes each time. I thought it w as because maybe it requires updates so i left it for a while but the problem persisted. Also, when the laptop is charging the mouse cursor jums around all over the screen and goes all haywire and clicks random items in the process. I also often get avideo tdr failure. I tired booding the laptop with an external usb with UBUNTU to see if the problem persisted and it did. When i contacted customer support they told me to do a recovery and turns out that guess what? my laptop came with absolutely NO recovery partition whatsoever! I am very disappointed. This is a new laptop i bought for work purposes and now i am getting held back. The very fact that this is a new laptop and nothing seems to be working fine irritates me. It is obviously clear it is a hardware issue yet i have to do allthis running around to repar software so that they can come after and tell me it's hardware. I have no idea what i should  do.

My Lenovo Ideapad Z710 works just fine most of the time, but when I try to play games, first some individual pixels and as time goes on the entire screen starts flickering until it?s almost impossible to play. If I turn off my graphics card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M , it worked fine again. Now first of all, it would be nice to know whether anyone knows what the cause of this first problem is and how to fix it, as I would like to be able to use my regular graphics card when playing (enables me to play on a higher resolution). Added to that, I?ve now noticed that on other games, there is a flickering, without the pixel flickering first, no matter whether or not I deactivate my graphics card. Anyone have an idea where this problem could stem from?

I've had this "lovely" notebook for going on 2 years now, while I'm not thrilled with this notebook at all I do have one glaring problem I cant not seem to fix. I've been diligently updating my windows 8.1 with all the needed fixes and etc. For the past week or 2 though my pc has had MAJOR issues with just being on and idling.  Example would be saturday I left for the day and left my pc on (like always) I had chrome running with a single google tab opened and notepad opened. I got home today and the pc was completely frozen. Couldn't do anything but pull the battery out and restart. But now the battery can't even be in the notebook as the ideapad will not start with it in there. It simply does not start. Is there a way to fix this unresponsiveness for my system? I don't have anything running in the background (norton etc) and I haven't downloaded anything that would be risky. I've scanned my pc and have done ccleaner along with removing any programs I don't use. But my pc is still getting unresponsive. How can I fix this?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1 slowing down to the point of being unresponsive

Try the usual task of running disk cleaner and then do a defrag of the drive.

I never noticed this before sending the laptop off to Lenovo for battery repair, but ever since my laptop is not showing the Nvidia G840 graphics card that should be installed in my laptop. When I say it's not hsowing, I mean it is not listed in the device manager under display adaptors. I have checked the BIOS but it was set to "discrete" and not "UMA-only", so it should be using the G840 if it is in there. Is there any chance the graphics card may have been unintentionally disconnected whilst replacing the battery connector?

Hi to all, I have just bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z710 without operating system. I installed a Windows 7 64bit, the one which I used before for a long time. I downloaded all the drivers from Lenovo website, and all installed pretty well. I can use WIFI, however Bluetooth does not work at all. I don't see any bluetooth in device manager and there is no tray icon of bluetooth. Moreover, I used AIDA64 software to see which bluetooth adapter is installed, however I found none. I have an Atheros 9485 wifi adapter. Do you know what it might be? I will give you all the details. Thanks beforehand.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z710 Windows 7 64bit Bluetooth problems

hi moryak_lexa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Looking at the Z710 HMM, the Atheros AR9485 (Liteon WB225) does show that it's Wi-Fi+BT combo chip.
  - Link to picture

Can you try the following:
1. Install the Lenovo Energy Managenet driver

Lenovo Energy Management
v1.0.0.28
54.4 MB

2. When done, press Wireless key (F7 or Fn+F7) and ensure that the Bluetooth Current Status is set to ON.
   - Link to picture

If the Bluetooth device is still not appearing under the Device Manager, can you try to download and run the Bluetooth Driver Installer and post the results during installation (eg. error messages, etc.)

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forums, but I've used the site countless times to help solve problems I've had with various computers.

I'm usually not one to directly ask for computer help, being the acclaimed "Computer Guy" in my circle of friends and family, it takes a little too long to get an answer if I need to fix something fast, but this case is a little different.

A few weeks ago my friend bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop pre-installed with Win8. I "Upgraded" to Win7 for him, as neither of us can stand the new OS. Usually I have no trouble reinstalling drivers after installing a new OS, but for some reason his touchpad driver will NOT install.

I'm using the official driver for his computer, it's apparently a synaptics driver and it says it should work completely fine with Win7, but when I try to run the installation, I get the error "Synaptics Device Not Found!"

There are a few issues that I believe are related to the driver not being installed that may tell you guys something. When he closes his laptop lid and open it again, his mouse jumps over the screen endlessly, and he cannot use the computer until he restarts. Also, he can't turn his touchpad off, which I assume is a function that comes with the driver.

Any help or input is greatly appreciated, if you need any more information please feel free to ask.

Thanks again,
-Tyler

Are you sure that the touchpad is a Synaptics touchpad and not ElanTech? If it is ElanTech, try uninstalling the presently installed the driver. Then install the driver from the site. While installing the driver do not put a checkmark in the box that says Install Synaptics driver now.

Hi,

I've seen that you have released in july a new bios for lenovo z710, 7FCN95WW, and it says that Supports Intel 3160-AC WLAN combo card.

I installed this new bios and everything was ok with the old original wifi card.

I bought the Intel 3160-AC WLAN combo card but the laptop says UNAUTHORIZED CARD after installation.

Card specs are in the picture attached.

Please help with a solution.

I've had my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad z710) for almost a year and I've often had problems with the integrated GPU battling the dedicated gpu. I had developed work arounds for these BSOD crashes and everything was fine.  But yesterday I realized my Nvidia Geforce GT 745m gpu no longer shows up in Device Manager. It is also not identified by the programs Speccy and GPUz.  My pc runs fine but It won't allow me to use my dedicated gpu, this becomes a problem when i want to run graphics intensive games or programs. I cannot update the driver because it does not see that I have the graphics card installed.  This has to be something that happened in the past few weeks because I used my Nvidia gpu last month.  I recently updated my bios from the Lenovo website, it updated sucsessfully and I can't be sure that it caused this problem but it is a possibility I suppose.  I have read about this issue on several forums but have not found a solution.Any help or advice or people with similar issues would be greatly appriciated! Thank you! SPECS:Lenovo Ideapad Z710intel Core I7-4700MQ (2.40GHZ)8gb Memory1TB HDDNVIDIA GeForce GT 745M1920x1080 17.3"Windows 8.1

Answer:Device manager stopped recognizing dedicated GPU (Nvidia GT 745m) - Lenovo Ideapad Z710 windows 8.1

If you cannot see it anywhere, most probably its dead.

If you are in warranty, you should get it repaired from Lenovo.
They might have to replace your motherboard.

The steps you can try -
1) Clean install of graphics drivers. (Wiont work since your GPU is not recognized)
2) Reset your laptop to factory settings.

Hello! I'm Joselle and I own a IdeaPad z710. My parents bought it last thanksgiving sale at bestbuy USA. However, I live in the Philippines now and I have RAM Problems. According to a computer technician, he said he couldn't open to fix my laptop since it was still under warranty. Now, I can't live with blue screen "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" in 2 months since I'm a gamer and my laptop's warranty will expire within 2 months. Any solution? Plus, I already confirmed it is a RAM Problem. Did tests already and it was confirmed. Did everything to fix it yet nothing works. The RAM must have broke. Should I just approach the nearest Lenovo Store to fix it for me ? Or etc? I just can't throw my RAM away. It is 16gb and it is very pricey. Please help.

I just wonder if a Lenovo Notebook Z710(59396561), 17.3" Intel Core i7 4700MQ, comes with battery other than 4 cell, say a 6 cell battery? Is there any 6 cell battery for this type of machine?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 battery type, 4 cell or 6 cell?

hi liangxiang,

Welcome to the Forums.

From the IdeaPad Z10 SKUs that I've seen (US Models), all of them comes with a 4-cell battery which lasts an average of 5hrs.

This Lenovo Z710 (59396561) model though is advertised as having a 6-cell battery.

Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt László

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

Yesterday afternoon I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 for $499.00 from this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328

Obviously, it hasn't come in the mail yet. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in the laptop. It comes with 6gb of RAM, a 4gb stick and a 2gb stick. The problem is, I don't really know what kind of RAM is in the computer. I'm looking to replace the 2gb stick with a second 4gb stick.

The type of RAM the laptop uses is pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin so-dimm socket RAM.

My question is whether or not this RAM is compatible with the laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3T4G3-US/dp/B00591ZYX8

Also, if there is a better option for RAM for this laptop, I'd like to know.

Answer:Solved: Is this RAM compatible with my Lenovo IdeaPad Z575?

Honestly, I think I may have mental problems. It looks like I answered my own question in this post. That RAM is compatible with my laptop. So I guess I'd just like to know if this RAM is the best option for this particular laptop.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

hi Charlotte,

Regarding your questions:
1. Looking at the specs sheet, the Ideapad Z510 does have a mini PCie card slot to fit an mSATA SSD but it doesn't indicate that it supports mSATA data signaling (and this slot is occupied by the wireless adapter).
  - Link to picture (page 27 of the HMM)
  - Z510 Specs

2. Not compatible. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, you could consider getting a regular 2.5" SATA SSD and replace the HDD with the SSD and install Windows 7 on it. Check this thread as other users have sucessfully installed Win7 on their Z510.

3. Natively, these are some of the systems that supports mSATA:
   - IdeaPad Y400 / Y500
   - IdeaPad Yoga 13
   - IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro
   - IdeaPad U310 / U410 / U510
   - IdeaPad Y580

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

I bought an IdeaPad z710 laptop in August 2014.  I have been trying to add a new Seagate Slim Backup Plus 2. TB USB 3.0 hard drive.  I do believe that the Z710 has two USB 3.0 ports. I am trying to connect it at the same time as my SIIG 4 port USB 3.0 "powered" hub, on a different USB 3.0, but the hard drive keeps connecting / disconnecting. Would this be normal?

Answer:IdeaPad Z710 USB 3.0

Welcome to the forum ! Yes, your model does have two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports.   Does the Seagate drive connect without SIIG powered hub being attached ?  If it stays connected when the SIIG isn't attached then I would suspect that when both devices are attached to the laptop that the USB 3 circuit doesn't have enough power to power both.   You'd be better off connecting the Seagate to the powered hub.

Check it in Boot Tab

Hi everybody, So, I bought a Referbished Ipeadpad Z710 & the computer won't charge. I says the "(Battery Percentage) available, not charging." Someitmes it charges, most of the times it doesn't. Also, when I have the computer on Hibernate or even if it's Shut Down, I have to plug it into the wall b/c it thinks there is no battery, & sometimes that doesn't work either.I have tried talking to Lenovo countless number of times, they with make me format the drive, or reinstall the drivers. They replaced the battery once, they also took in for service b/c they said the motherboard is the problem. When I got the sheet back, there is no indication that they replaced the motherboard. I have done the Guage Reset as well, there are times in the Guage Reset when I'm guessing the battery has been detected & it canceles the Guage Reset. I think this is rediculous. I have installed Windows 8.1 which comes up from Microsoft. Does this mean I amstuck w/Windows 8 forever? I'm guessing that that means I won't be able to get Windows 9 when it comes out???? I have turned off all the settings in the Power Manager such as the "Conservation Mode," "Outlook" & even the "Turn off displayautomatically." I am just about ready to just returm this computer, I am just fed up w/this. I feel like they are just buying time until the warrenty ends, which is still a whole year. Can someone please help me with this.

Hi guys.I have a IdeaPad Z710 laptop but the internal HDD is so slow. I bought a SSD and reinstalled with Ubuntu but this OS is not good so far and I want to install a windows 8. My question is: what I need to do to have the OS discs/ISO and where is the license key?thanks in advance.regards,KS

Answer:Reinstalling IdeaPad Z710 OS

If you havent wiped the hdd that it came with.  Reinstall the drive and boot from it.  Create a USB or DVD recovery with it. If you did, you'll either have to order a recovery disc from lenovo.orYou could google WPKey ( The OEM key is stored in bios, This is a tool to retrieve it ) and find installation media by other means. But then Windows 8 is no better than Ubuntu unless you need to run software you can get to run on linux.  If your issue with ubuntu is the nasty Unity interface you can simply install Gnome or KDE for a more Traditional Look&Feel

I've found a few people with the same issue, but still no resolution - I'm using a Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 with a fresh reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium, and the F4 and F5 hotkeys work to close the window and refresh the page, respectively, even if the Fn key is not held down. I've been through attempting to change the hotkey function in the BIOS, but that doesn't make a difference - enabled or disabled, the F4 and F5 keys act as hotkeys. There doesn't seem to be any applicable driver listed on the Lenovo support site that would rectify this, and I've installed most, if not all, of the Windows 7 drivers. I just spent 2 hours on hold with Lenovo support, only to be disconnected, and the only options I got when I called back were to reinstall the touchpad driver (which doesn't work) or go back to Windows 8. However, other people who have posted to the forum said they have had the same issue with 8/8.1. Does anyone have any information concerning this issue? Thank you!

Answer:IdeaPad Z710 F4 / F5 Fn key problem

I've also tested this by booting into an Ubuntu live CD - does the same thing. It has to be a hardware issue - really hoping there's the possibility of a BIOS update rollout to correct this, as the alternative would be to return the laptop.

Hi,I bought an Ideapad Z710 about 40 days ago. A few days ago this started. I am hearing a slight chirping noise when my dedicated GEFORCE GT 745M is loaded during gaming. Additionally, this seems to happen more if the laptop is angled toward the user, say 30 degrees. Is this something I should be concerned about, as in a sign that a fan is defective?  Thank you for your help!

Answer:Ideapad Z710 fan chirp

Hi Roalnd,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm sorry to hear that there is chirping noise generated from your Laptop. Normally if the Laptop fan is running, and the angle of fan changes a bit, this may generate minute sound, but it is recommend to use the Laptop on a flat surface, please let me know if the issue persists even the after using the Laptop on a flat surface.

Hope to hear back soon

Hello everyone, I recently bought a Lenevo IdeaPad Z710 and I'm quite dissapointed by the quality of display. I don't know have many of you have the problem that I have recently discovered. Well, is a full hd display but some colors on my screen are flickering like this guy recorded on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWTkycEPUpY My laptop has the exact same behaviour, on some colors the screen flickers on brightness at level 8 ( WIN 8.1 ). I've done some research and I don't know what to say.. is the Lenovo Energy Manager the cause of this issue, the quality of display or it's a hardware problem. Please let me know guys if you have encountered this issue on this model because I think to send it to warranty.  Best Regards,Jacob

Does anyone know of a free app to monitor battery callibration.Levovo's Guage Test doesn't work and the battery is not charging, saying 0%.Only able to use laptop with mains. Pretty rubbish laptop from Lenovo, it would appear.

Answer:IdeaPad Z710 Battery Callibration

Hi LittleLad,

If the laptop does not turn on anymore from an OFF state without AC adapter, Then it is a defective or bad battery,
Battery calibration only works for battery will not charge full or battery that discharges fast.

I have had this laptop for a little over a year and I have never cared for the camera, however I am wanting to try something that does require a video camera.  I attempted to start it up, however it wasn't in the device manager list at all. I manually added it via the camera and printers section on the control panel. This did resolve it not showing up in the device manager but it has a exclamation mark. I know the usual fix for this is to download the driver and update it and it should work; however I get the error: This device cannot start. (Code 10) This error is annoying me A LOT and is making me VERY frusterated! I have verified that the driver is indeed correct, and I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall the **bleep** thing, but none of that works. I am at a loss on what to do at this point, but I do need to get this working! Thanks

When I bought this computer 6 months ago, the battery worked fine, and would charge fully when the power ran down. But now for some reason, it says 1% available, battery not charging. I've tried to do a cold boot, also I've tried different power management settings, and I've tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. But for some reason, I can't get the battery to charge. Any ideas? Pete

Hi everybody, I have the plan to connect a 4k Monitor to my current Z710 Ideapad. As the laptop comes with the GeForce GT745M, which supports resolutions up to 3840x2160 I don't see any bottle neck here. For your reference: Specs of the GT745Mhttps://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-745m/specifications But how about the HDMI socket? WIth what kind of HDMI Port comes the Z710? v1.0 or v1.4, v1,4a?That's very important to know and unfortantely I couldn't find anything about it in the manual of the Z710 Ideapad. Thanks in advance for your help, Kind regards,Michael

Hi, at work we have just gotten 2x Ideapad Z710's, and like all our machines we would like to throw them on our WDS server. But we cannot get it to work. I know its normally the windows forums i should scour through. But all the searches lead me to a general problem, but this error is only for this one model.Im getting the errors.TFTPPXE-T01: File not foundPXE:E3B: TFTP Error- File not found.  The solutions found all suggest  reinstalling the WDS server, but since its only for this one model, it seems like a more specific problem. We are thinking of just normally installing/reinstalling these machines as they need since we can't find a proper solution to the problem. So im asking here in hope of someone else have an idea/solution for this problem. The WDS server is 2008 R2. it will soon be upgraded to 2012, but since its planned in the next month, we dont want to do this now, due to infrastructure timeplans. Regards Henrik R. I purchased my Z710 Laptop 2-3 years ago. Currently I seem to suffer from thermal throttling on both the CPU(i7-4700mq)(85C) and GPU(gt-745m)(75C). I tried cleaning dust from the fan and heatsink but that did not seem to solve the issue. I tried to underclock CPU down to 2.4GHz but still reaches 85C and GPU still throttles as well. So I am thinking of two options:1) Buy a laptop cooling pad and put it under the exposed underside of the laptop and hope that it can cool it down.2)Replace the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU (boy oh boy how sketchy this one is, but exciting at the same time!) and hope for the best? I am looking for your advice on which of these I should choose or if there is anything I am missing? Thank you in advance!

I purchased several months ago an IdeaPad Z710 for a particular project. For that project Windows 7 64 bit would be a preferred platform. The website lists Windows 7 64 bit drivers, but as I found out after the fact, the drivers are not signed for Windows 7 64 bit. They are effectively useless. So having already wiped my hard drive (I had taken a backup, and I fouled *that* up) I needed recovery media. Called support and was offered $129 installation support service. I said no, I just need discs. I was offered $69 recovery media. I said that is a ridiculous price for shipping & handling of a set of recovery discs that you are not "selling". I was offered a $39 deal for the same discs and finally agreed to pay that stupid tax to get a set of discs that could reset the computer to its original factory state.I received a set of 4 discs: Start 1, Start 2, OS 3, & OS4. I put in Start 1, it asked me if I wanted a MFG install or a clean OS install. I picked MFG. It processed Start 1 for a while then prompted for Start 2. When I put that disc in, it reported an error copying or processing the RECOVERY.INI file. I removed the disc, checked for any obvious defects, found none, called support back to report I received faulty media with the given error message. They sent me a second set of discs. While waiting, I tried the clean OS install. That never asked for Start 2, and that "worked", but it was not what I had ordered. I already had the resources to put a genuine clean copy of... Can someone tell is there a way to get the IdeaPad Z710 series laptop to set it so that the F4 key don't close a window. In Windows this should be ALT+F4 not just F4. This not a good feature due to the fact I have four programmers who use the iSeries and IBM Rational Developer software that need that F4 key. If this can't be resolved I will be looking else where for laptops. I would hate to do that because Lenovo's have been a great product over the years.

I think a bios update might be in order. See this link for the issue similar to yours.

I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB? Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order. Please tell me how to boot to a Linux DVD or USB on this machine! This was major purchase for me, and if I can't install Linux on it, this laptop is totally useless for me. Please respond.

Answer:ideapad z710 boot failed

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Z710 Laptop is not booting to Windows and displaying initial error, I suggest you to access the BIOS menu and change the first boot device to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and check if the issue persists. To access BIOS menu turn OFF the computer and then press the NOVO button which is located beside the power button and select BIOS utility, then under boot menu change the HDD to first boot device under boot order. Now click on F10 to save the changes.

Do post us back if the issue persists

Hi there, Last night I installed an windows update when prompted to. Nothing out of the ordinary. After the laptop restarted the fan was suddenly stuck on what seems like 100% speed. It is making a much louder noise than before the update and does so at all times, even during a restart or after being turned off for hours. The temperatures of the components are all fine and the air coming from the fan vent is cool so it seems that there's no reason for the fan to suddenly be running so quickly. The noise from the fan is very annoying but not a fan problem, just the sound of a fan on full power, no grinding etc. Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:IdeaPad z710 Sudden Fan Issue

As long as you're sure the fans are blowing for no reason (do NOT do this if they're cooling the CPU!), you can change the fan speed trip points. Personally, I use EVGA Precision X16 for this, but there are probably other programs. You can manually change how fast the fans go at certain temperatures in the Fan Curve section. Just don't lower it too much especially toward higher temperatures or you could cause irreperable damage to your components.

Any ideas as to what wifi drivers to use for Z710 8.1 (64-bit)? My wifi isn't working at all. It sees the wifi router but it cannot connect. All my other laptops/tablets/mobile can connect. Thank you.

Answer:Ideapad Z710 Wifi not working for 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi tazo157, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Regarding your problem, are you getting any message when you tried to connect to your network? 1. Perform  power cycle for the devices? Turn off the modem/router > Unplug the router cable > Turn off Z710 > Remove the router cable for about 20 secs > Reconnect router cable then turn on the modem/router > Wait till all lights are stable > Turn the Z710 back on > Try to reconnect. 2. Run Microsoft Troubleshooter? Go to Control Panel > Look for Troubleshooting > Select Network and Internet > Select Network Adapter. 3. Reinstall wireless drivers, download it here 4. Test it in Safe Mode with Networking, check if you'll be getting same issue.  Hope this helps!

My Lenovo ideapad Z710, after a year of use started telling me the battery was not the correct battery.  I thought the battery might have died.  I eventually bought a replacement battery.  The new battery gets the same message.  My wife has a different model but uses the same battery.  My OEM battery does not function in her machine but the new one does.  So it appears that my machine has a problem recognizing the proper battery.  Once I accept the message, the machine boots and runs fine plugged in.  The battery does not charge so I assume the machine is protecting itself from improper battery.  The new battery is a DR.BATTERY Notebook battery with a two year warranty.  When I was shopping for the battery, there were numerous suppliers and of course they all claimed to have only the highest quality that meets or exceeds the original battery specs. Does anyone know a solution?  Could it be a software problem?  I had assumed it was a hardware problem.  The computer works fine as desktop machine, but with no battery it is pretty worthless as a portable.

So I bought a new ideapad z710 notebook, installed windows 7 and found out that no matter what I do, I can't make wireless to work. My Airplane key tells me that my wireless card is turned on:  But after installing the drivers from support page: I get this in my devices manager:   When I open my network and sharing options and navigate to adapters I only see bluetooth connection and ethernet connection, no wireless. When I run Intel diagnostic tool I get this:  What should I do?I'm really dissapointed in buying a really expensive notebook, then installing ALL drivers by hand (only sound was working from the win7 default installation) and now I can't use WiFi, which is a point of mobile devices...
