Pavilion G7 left hinge and screen

Question: Pavilion G7 left hinge and screen

My G7 Pavilion apparently has the same issues as other owners of the same model. The casing has separated. The left hinge has not worked properly for some time. Now my screen has quit working. I am utilizing my TV as my screen at this point, however, this is not convenient. I would like to know how HP plans to resolve this issue for me and others as well. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've seen some similar posts for slightly older laptops, but I've got a hinge issue with my g7 2240us, bought in December 2014. The left hinge seems to have come loose, and a tab with a screw that is part of the hinge now pushes up on the casing of the laptop about half an inch high.  Not to mention the laptop will not fully close.  Any suggestions?

I also have a broken left hinge on my HP Pavilion 17.3 which I purchased a little over 3 year ago. I had it fixed 2013 and it seemed ok, but now it cracks again on the xact same place. Now the screen went white again :-( Based on all the other similar problems, this should be fixed by HP in my opinion.

Like many others have experienced/posted, the left hinge on my pavilion has bulged and cracked the casing. I take care of my laptops and have not dropped it at any time. I first noticed the hinge problem last night, and I can now no longer open the laptop with hearing a grinding sound. This laptop is 2-3 years old and no longer under any warranties. I'm a student and cannot afford the $250+ repairs. Is hp doing anything about this common problem?

I have the same problem documented in the thread: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Pavilion-g6-Broken-Left-Hinge/t... There isn't an option to post a reply to that thread. The left hinge of my Pavillion G6 broke like quite a number of other G6s.  When opening the laptop, the display works in some positions.  In other positions, the display is completely white.  The laptop top and bottom separate a bit while opening the laptop. Was there a recall for this problem as there are quite a number of incidences of the left hinge breaking under normal usage?

The above is my son's laptop. It began separating about a week ago. It is a Pavilion G7.  What is causing this issue? Is there an easy way to fix the problem, aside from purchasing a new computer. The laptop works fine. We are not sure if this is a battery issue (BIOS) or other issue. That corner did run hot from time to time. He has cleaned it out and it is not hot now.  Of course it is out of warranty, but a computer should not do that when used properly.  Thank you for any advice and help that can be given.

I have been pleased with my HP...it started making a creaking noise on the left side when I would open and close it...pieces of the hinge started to fall off...now the wires are exposed and the screen is separating from the cover...The computer works fine but will not close...I wonder if the exposure to these wires and the separation of the screen from the cover creates a hazard.  I understand that there is a design flaw and that many of these computers have broken...I have bought 3 HP computers and have been pleased with them...I love the one I have now and do not want to lose it...If the design is faulty why should I have to pay for your mistake...I ask you to please correct this flaw and repair my computer.  I bought it in good faith and hope that you will stand behind your product...I have pictures of the damage if you would like to see...Please help

Like others I now have a problem with the LH hinge.  sticking and opening up the casing.  What can HP do to help me fix this problem.  it is out of warrantee but appears to be a manufacturing fault because there are a large number of these incidents being recorded so therefore HP should provide some help.  as a manufacturing fault i wodl expect this to be fixed by HP and not for me to take my laptop apart and attempt a repair.  any cost involved with using an HP repair centre i woudl expect tp be covered by HP.  this is not an age problem as this laptop is not that old and neither are many others that have been reported.

I too am having this problem.  Now I need it replaced, it is just over a year old.  I have ordered the wrong part 2x, cant seem to get the right product numbers.  I need the bezel and case replaced.  Too many people with the same problem.  I was told it is the design of the computer that causes this. Shame on HP for selling a product that wont' make it over a year.

My HP Pavilion laptop is no longer under warranty. Last week, the left hinge broke when I closed the screen. This happened under normal use for no apparent reason whatsoever. I can no longer close the screen as it is causing the frame around the screen to crack. Further, the touchscreen function is no longer working. I am terribly disappointed in the quality of this product, and I have been reading that this is a significant issue with HP notebooks. Sadly, it seems that HP is using substandard materials, and customers are paying too high a price for poor quality.I would very much like this problem to be addressed and get this repaired.

Hello! I have an out of warranty Pavilion g6-2342dx notebook that also has a broken left hinge. 2 days ago the display quit working. The system boots up normally, but no display.I attached an HP s2031 monitor via the secondary monitor output cable and the note book seems to be working as it should. As it is the left hinge which is broken, could the display power connection have come loose/undone? I don't really want to tear into it without some prior advice...   The warranty expired 3 May 2014, but I have noticed many other people have experienced a problem with this hinge. Is there some way that HP can "help out" and perhaps "extend" the warranty for this issue?  Any advice or tips you can give will be greatly appreciated! Thank you,Larry

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Dear HP I have a HP Pavilion g6-2032se notebook. couple of months back the laptop started making creaking sounds whenever i opend or closed it. Some time back the left hinge broke away and started pushing the body out. I opened the case myself to find out the screw assembly has broken away from the base causing the metallic hinge to push the body upwards. Is there any authorized parts/spares shop in Karachi, Pakistan where I can get this fixed? or can I order the base assembly online if no shop is available?  Model : Hp Pavilion g6-2032se

The warranty has ran out on my M6 laptop. A little over a year after it ran out, the left plastic hinge part of the frame began to crack and break due to the pressure caused by opening the laptop. While looking for replacement screen bezels online, I noticed that this was a common problem for this specific laptop. Is there a way around the expired warranty for this problem? I am having a hard time finding the replacement part, and I am afraid the same problem will just continue to happen again over time. Having the plastic part broken won't allow the screen to open without risking cracking the sceen. What are my options and who can I talk to? I'm a college student so this is sort of an inconvenience...My warranty ran out 9/10/2013 and it began breaking January 2015. Thanks

I have a left screen hinge crack on my Z480. It catches when I open the lid and I fear it's going to get worse. This is actually the third problem I've had with the plastic on this computer, and from reading other discussions I don't think I'm alone. I tried calling tech support. My laptop is out of warranty but it's not 2 years old yet. I haven't dropped it. The guy pretty much told me what I expected to hear (that there's nothing to be done) and told me to take it to a local servicer but when I asked if he had a recommendation he said he "didn't know where I lived." I live in Cincinnati, OH and told him I could share that info with him but instead I got a lecture on the impermanence of material things. I would just really like to know my options and get any help from the manufacturer of this product.

Answer:left screen hinge crack

If you bought your computer with a credit card, call them up and ask if they offer free extended warranty on items purchased with their credit card. MOST credit cards doubles your warranty (at least 1 year past the initial year). However, the claim will need to be filed through the credit card company and needs to be covered under the basic warranty. Since you have "cosmetic damage" you will need to prove to the CC company that the issue is with the device construction. You can probably do so by digging up old post and sending them a faxed copy of all these posts.

I purchased an Aspire V5 571P in September of 2013.  In July of 2014 one of the control buttons stopped working so I contacted Acer.  We set it up so that I would mail in the laptop.  Just a day or two before mailing it in, the screw at the left hinge fell out.  Rather than just screwing it back in myself, I mailed it in with a note asking that the laptop be looked at for both issues.  The laptop was returned with the screw back in, and the control key worked.  About ten days ago (in Jan. of 2016) I was shutting the laptop when I heard a loud "pop."  The shell of the laptop cracked under the left hinge, and the crack separates right at the hole where you plug in the adapter.  The screen is cracked.  Touch screen no longer functions.  Acer says it is out of warranty.  I purchased an extended warranty, but that company is saying that I dropped the laptop.  I did not drop the laptop.  Do I just need to buy a new laptop?  If I do, I will certainly be looking at other companies.  Does anyone know how much would this cost to fix?  I certainly expected this laptop to last more than 2 years.

I had the exact thing happen to my Aspire and the screen cracked too. I am surprised that there is not a recall on these because I did see when I was looking to ordering a new screen that to beware of this left hinge problem. So it is an ongoing problem with these laptops. You don't have to drop it for the screen to crack. I found the hinges and a screen on Amazon and have to find someone to repair the hinge and screen now.

Hello,I bought this laptop off of acerrecertified and have been using for school for the past 2 months. What I just noticed after i pulled it out of my bag,First, the lower plastic frame is cracking and falling apart, and second the aluminum screen frame has separated. I tried to push the screen back together but it wouldn't clip back on. What should i do? is this product under warranty? I'm afraid if i send it in to get repaired, it will just break again because of poor engineering, and i have read this problem is common across acer's laptops.

I like many others have the whole case cracking issue on my Envy - yes it is out of warranty but I special ordered and spent a bundle so that I could get 5 years out of it not 2.  I tried to extend the warranty but that was a complete CLUSTER and never happened - I have lost my job and cannot afford a new computer and use it for my part time job.  This is a home computer and moves from my home office to my living room - rarely ever leaves the house and is in pristene condition.  Trouble with the answers in this forum is that they are all PM's, except for the ones who have described how to take the machine apart which I can't really risk doing on my own.  Like Dell, HP quality has gone down the toilet!!

Hello HP,

I am deeply concerned - I bought a 17" HP envy but less than a year since
, the laptop is coming apart at the bottom near the Hinge for the screen to the left. I am afraid to open it because it makes a "pop" sound every time I open the screen.

God knows I have been extra careful with this laptop. Yopu will not find a scratch on it from bangs or things like that but am deeply scared of this 1200$ piece falling apart not even a year into my using it.

Can someone please advise where to repair this from?? I am based in Uganda but will be travelling to San Francisco and Los Angeles soon.

Please advise, am beginning to lose faith in the machine, and brand..

Answer:17" HP Envy Coming apart at the left near screen hinge

Wow, my 15" HP Envy looks almost exactly the same and the hinge is no longer fixed.  I assumed the problem was because I found a screw under the laptop yesterday but when I tried to screw it back in it went through the housing and inside the computer.  Apparently the screw then caused a problem with the fan and I need a fix as well.  I spent several hours this morning being passed back and forth between the US and Slovak companies because I'm a US customer currently located in Slovakia and according the the support desk I need to put my laptop in a box and mail it to someone in the US if I want it fixed because somehow, and god knows how this is cost effective, the fan for a computer that's sold in the US is not available in Europe.  I'm sorry I don't have a better answer to your question, but my experience suggests you may not get service in the US unless you bought your laptop there and if someone from Support tells you they will service your computer you should check with multiple people.  The first Support person I talked to assured me the Slovak's would fix my fan when he told me to contact them, only to find out after being transferred 4 different times that in fact they won't.   I wish you good luck getting your laptop fixed and I'll let you know if I find any decent solutions but so far all I've been able to figure out is that its likely better to spend my har... I had purchased this laptop, HP Envy M6-1090ee in August 2012. Soon after my warranty expired, the left hinge of the laptop started cracked and the screen frame too were affected because of this. Since I had to move between countries for short periods, I couldn't do anything about it. Until June 2014, when I contacted the HP service centre. After quite a few discussions regarding this issue, they decide to repair it for me. The repair was done and the machine didn't have any issue for a year. After which the same issue started cropping up. I have a HP case ID no. for the last service, that was given for the last repair. Any assistance regarding this will be highly appreciated and of a great help. Thank youAlex Robert

I always thought that my V-5 571P felt chintzy, so I've always treated it gently.  It's only ever has been on a desk or in the living room streaming Netflix to the TV.  I was shocked when the mere act of closing it sent a long, muliple branched crack through the screen.  Apparently the LEFT hinge developed some weirdness and shifted allowing the bottom corner of the clamshell to bear against the corner of the screen as it was folded closed. If I had dropped the thing, I would have beat myself for being so stupid, but this laptop was ALWAYS handled with kid gloves.  For it to break in this manner is so unacceptable it is as if it were designed to fail in that manner. Checking this forum, I see that many others have had the same experience.  ACER's solution - lock the thread.  How's about repairing the laptops which suffered this unacceptable design flaw free of charge?  Isn't that what a reputable manufacturer does? Anyway, I have been forced to find a new laptop and ACER is the one name on my "Do Not Buy" list. Richard

I purchased a HP Pavillion G7-2246NR Laptop with a 17.3 inch screen from Office Depot on Nov. 26, 2012.

The computer worked great until about a month ago when the left hinge seemed to be coming loose.  All I use this computer for is to surf the net at night while we watch TV so it rarely gets used.

Now the hinge has completely came out of the case and it has apparently  caused damage to the power button.  The computer will not power up at all.

I certainly believe this computer that I rarely use should have lasted more than a year and a half.  Is there a recall or some sort of free repair for these clearly defective units?

Please contact me for a solution,

Answer:Broken Left hinge on HP Pavillion G7-2246NR 17.3 screen

Hello @SFKervin , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand the hinge has broken on your notebook and it no longer turns on. It's possible that the chassis has separated preventing the power button from making contact with the power button board below. The simplest solution would be to replace the hinge. You can find detailed instructions on how to replace the hinge here: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide on page 57. You can order a replacement display hinge kit by searching the part number 682746-001 and the display hinge covers with part number 682747-001 (if needed) online from many retailers like Amazon, eBay, or the HP Part Surfer web store. Regarding any recalls you can see a list of active recalls for HP on the following website: Replacement programs and product recalls. Hopefully this helps!

In 2012 my mother and I both purchased the HP Pavillion g7 17.3 in screen laptops at different times. She purchased hers from Office Depot and I purchased mine from Walmart. About 2 months ago her laptop stopped closing properly and we noticed that the left hinge had dislodged from its intended position. A few weeks later her screen started to go out as well. We replaced the top cover and fixed the hinge but the screen is still unresponsive.  Two days ago, I noticed that my laptop started having the same problem and I find it very odd that both computers purchased from different locations and same "Pavillion g7" have the same casing malfunction. I have done a lot of research on this issue and there have been quite a few people with the same issue with their computers. Why has there not been a recall on this issue or at least HP should offer customers replacement parts for the known problem. I am very disappointed because I have always had HP laptops and printers but if the quality of these products are like this now, I may have to switch to a different brand. I hope someone can figure out what is going on and help with this situation.  Thanks

Good Afternoon, I recently bought became an acer user after I found this Aspire laptop that had everything that I wanted at a reasonable price. But after just a couple years the left side near the adapter plug in began to crackle everytime the screen was open and closed, slowly on the same side the plasitic became more and more separated, until recently this was not a major issue but as time wore on that small gap has become so wide it seperates the whole computer in two causing my the port that the power cord is connected to has fallen deep inside the laptop. As I begin to research this problem I came to find that this was something that has happened to almost every acer laptop no matter the price or type, now my question is since this is a manufacturers problem shouldnt ACER fix this issue without any cost to the customer since it is something that should have been fix in design phase? I find this perplexing because I have owned other laptops that I have droped (I have never dropped this one) that has NEVER split open. PS if you do not believe me research for yourself. most of these malfunction happen before a years usage

Answer:Acer laptop LEFT side Screen hinge Problem

Hi, It is unfortunate to hear about the issues you're having with your case and opening the lid to your laptop. I would recommend having the machine serviced.

I can assure you that a far larger portion of Acer laptops do not have this issue. A lot of research, time and developement go into the area around the hinges to minimize issues, but laptops have had these issues for 20+ years. The hinge is a common component that produces a lot of stress. While we do measure ourselves to others, a quick google search replacing Acer for another manufacture is sure to produce the same results.

Aspire E1-571, I have acer E1-571 aspire laptop. 1 year back , my laptops left side near the adapter plug in began to crackle everytime the screen was open and closed, slowly on the same side the plasitic became more and more separated, until recently this was not a major issue but as time wore on that small gap has become so wide. So i had repaired it by spending almost 4000rs and by changing bottom cover. After few days same issue again arrise and hinge where broken. This computer has never been out of the house or abused in any way. This appears to be a common Acer problem and seems to me Acer needs to step up for people like me and provide a repair. How about it Acer? Is it worth it to stick your customers with this? . please provide any repairs.

Hi there, I have been reading many posts on this forum, and apparently I am not the only one with this problem: My HP Envy 6-1010sa left hinge has decided to go askew and it's making the left bottom edge of my screen to spit, as I open/close the screen. I have not read about any solutionsfrom HP on my fellow-commentators, so I'm not sure what to do. As everyone else, my warranty has just expired, the laptop is only approx. 1.5 years old. The laptop works totally fine, and the screen is fine too and normally I am really happy with this laptop! But I am really worried now, I don't want the screen to get damaged even more! Can anyone, from HP please, tell me how to fix this? The hinge is not broken I think, it just seems out of position and I cant get it back in position and it's pulling the screen apart. I'm based in Amsterdam, is there a HP repair department in Amsterdam where I can go to? It seems like such an easy thing to repair, I just want a professional to look at it and I can't afford a whole new screen/whole new laptop! Many thanks for you help in advance! Here is an image that someone else posted, mine looks exactly the same! (how odd) Thanks, Susanne

For two years, I had been a proud user of my big screen laptop until the day I opened the lid and the plastic behind the left hinge crumbled like a cookie. I was totally shocked. I hadn't hit my laptop against anything nor had I dropped it, why, I hadn't even carried it around like most people do. The bloody hinge broke just like that. I was in for more shock and disappointment when the screen casing came apart when I tried to close the lid. Before I knew it, the damage had been done. I realized that I could not use my laptop like I normally do anymore. Since then, I have left the lid open always lest it break the screen completely. On the Forum, I learned that this is a design issue and many more users have suffered broken hinges and casings. If that's the case, why is HP not recalling faulty models? I have been an ardent fan of HP for twenty years. (Talking of fans, ever since the hinge broke and the casing came apart, I have been getting error messages about the cooling fan not functioning properly, that I need to shut down my PC). My first computer was a HP Pavilion desktop and so was my first printer. A few years ago, I even designed a logo for HP Shadow Labs, but it was not selected as a prospective design. That's another story. Now, how am I going to take my laptop to the city which is 100 miles away when I cannot safely close the lid even? I am out of warranty, so I will have to pay for replacements and service. Why should I pay for something... Read more

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

I bought two HP Pavilion 23xi monitors about eighteen months ago from PC World. One of them developed a problem where the left half of the panel went blue with horizontal lines. This monitor was replaced by PC World. Three months later the second monitor, attached to a different computer, on a different port, and with a different OS, developed the same problem. This monitor was replaced by HP under the call reference [Personal Information Removed]. Fast forward to February of this year, and one of the replacements (serial number [Personal Information Removed]) starts displaying the same problem. I contacted HP Customer Service but was told it was out of warranty. Then, just today, the other replacement monitor (serial number [Personal Information Removed]) starts suffering from THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I contacted HP Customer Service yet again but was told that this monitor was also out of warranty. I explained that I had had four 23xi's develop the same problem in only eighteen months but was told that there was no known problem with the model and that I would have to pay to have either one replaced.

If it was a one off I would totally understand that I would have to pay to have it fixed or replaced out of warranty. But this problem has happened four times, in eighteen months, to four IDENTICAL monitors. Not only that, but it appears the fault is well documented on the Internet. I found five threads on the HP Customer Service forums alone filled with no fewer than EIGH... Read more

Question: Left hinge

Hi This is about the back cover below the left hinge which pops out around 4 to 5 mm when laptop is opened or closed. After checking, it seems that the back cover area that supports the left hinge is very weak and damages easily. I always thought that every laptop maker has tests which certifies how well a laptop deals with continuous opening and closing. Obviously corners have been cut and quality control have not been vigilant. With the number of complaints this has, HP should do an unconditional recall to redeem their name. I was considering getting a Spectre for my wife but now I have doubts about thier quality and customer focus.

Question: Left Hinge

I have had the HP Envy for some time and expected it to be a premium product by HP leading me to believe that it would be a good long term laptop to use. Unfortanately, this is not the case, after spending a huge sum of money on a laptop I would not expect the laptop to have such a stupid problem, where the laptop seperates from it's casing. After doing some research I have found that this is a regular fault and HP aren't doing much about it. I am giving HP a last chance to contact me as to what they can do for me before taking action myself.

Question: HP envy left hinge

I've read in the forum that someone got their laptop repaired at NO COST?? Even after lapse of warranty? Wow, what did you do to convince HP to do this? I have sent several requests and complaints and a HP rep phoned to ask about it then told me to pay $300.00 for the repair. I do believe a substandard quality back cover which undoubtedly costs very cheaply to make is a good trade of for keeping customers. But it seems HP is more concerned about making money once and not considering about after sales and follow up sales. They certainly lost me and I was considering buying the Spectre but not anymore. BTW I checked an online supplier for the back cover and it sells for $35.00 from China but I prefer to do the repairs myself.

1)They were too lethargic about giving a proper response as how can the case id be cancelled without even the user's consent.
2) When I tried reaching the customer care again , they  gave a new case id for the same issue and the case id : 4270154295 and ONLY then they looked into the issue.
3) After some diagnosis, the technician said  that the product is still under warranty and it needs a part replacement. to my memory , he ... Read more

Answer:Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

I just wanted to report that I'm having issues with my left hinge as well. It's very similar though not identical in nature. Anyway' I had noticed that my left hinge was looser than the right hinge a long time ago, very soon after the purchase. and after I got my machine back from the service center after they replaced my motherboard. I never though much of it, but I decided to investigate this morning. As I was opening and closing the laptop, I noticed that the back of the computer next to where the battery is bulges out a bit when i open the computer, and bends in when I close it. It only happens on the left side. Then, I turn my computer upside down to see if there are any loose screws, and I see a weird piece of plastic in the screw hole where the bulge occurs, and I pull it out. I turns out it's a section of twisty tie, the kind that you use to close your sandwich bread bags. After I pulled that out, the screw straight up just fell out of the hole. There was nothing holding that screw in place except for that little section of twisty tie! Anyway, even with the screw out, the bulge hasn't gotten any worse, and the screen hasn't gotten any looser, which tells me that nothing has been attached to the other end of the screw for a long time now. I'm going to call the service center to see if they can replace the body of the machine, or possibly send me a replacement. I'll update you with any news. Update: So I got in contact with Lenovo and am getting ready to ship my ma... Read more

The left hinge will not let me open the laptop.  It is stuck or twisted.  A small piece of plastic has fallen out of the hinge area.  I have seen several postings pertaining to the same problem with the left hinge and there was a recall on this hinge.   My laptop is out of warranty.  Please advise.  Can I get my laptop repaired with the recall?

Question: Left Broken Hinge

I haven't had my HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook but a little over 2 years and my left hinge has broken. I took it to a computer tech and he said you guys do not have a recall on this issue nor do you have any intention of solving the issue. I can not afford to buy another laptop and this is the 6th HP I have owned including desktops. I will not buy another one unless this problem is taken care of. I would like some feed back on this as I see there are numerous people with the same problem. Thanks!

I am having an issure with the corner of the base of the laptop seperating near the bottom left of the screen (near the hinge). When the laptop is opened, the piece pop apart. When I try to snap them back together, they pop back apart as soon as I let go. I have been looking on the forum and it seems that this was a common problem. I am concerned because I do not want it to break as it was not a cheap laptop. Can anybody help with this issue?

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

i have had this laptop for just over 2 years now. i can't remember when this problem started because at first it was hardly noticeable, but for at least a few months now i have been having issues with my the left hinge/corner on my laptop. apparently this is a pretty common problem among many acer models. at first it seemed as though the hinge had gotten slightly out of place and would need to kind of pop back in every once in a while as i opened or closed the lid. i wasn't worried about it until a several weeks passed and it was happening every single time i opened or closed the lid. when i turned the laptop around so i had a better look at the hinge, i saw that the 2 plastic pieces that hold the laptop together were actually splitting apart in the corner. this has only gotten worse over time--the gap between the pieces keeps getting wider and the split travels further. i think it's inevitable that pretty soon the power adapter is going to shift out of place because of this and i won't be able to charge the laptop, rendering it useless. is there anything i can do to fix this other than replacing the lid/hinges? i feel like even if i get the parts replaced, the same thing is just going to start happening again eventually. should i just go ahead and start saving for a new laptop (NOT another acer)?

Answer:aspire E1-531 left hinge broken?

I have this same problem!! I went searching online and discovered that I am definitely not alone.I would like to know how or if it it repairable and/or is Acer willing to compensate for repair service.

The left hinge of my Aspire E series laptop is so off the hook now, when I open and close the computer it exposes a gap and you can see the computer inside. That can't be good! Also, over the two years I've had it, the small screws on the bottom fall out and I have to constantly screw them back in - one of them being the left hinge corner screw. And now I can't even screw a screw in as it just turns round and round. I don't know what to do...is it over for this computer? This is the second Aspire I've had in only five years.

I got a Lenovo SL500 almost 2 years ago now and the left hinge on it just broke. Right now I'm typing this on a slightly sideways monitor . This thing never even leaves my desk, I googled it and found that a few other people have experienced broken left hinges. Looks like a design flaw.

Does anyone else have this problem? the left hinge broken so it comes up now when the lid is lifted. Called a repair shop but it's estimated to be over 100. Possible to fix by myself?

Answer:SL400 broken left hinge!

I have the same problem, left hinge too! Tried uGlu, did not work, do not recommend trying to use it. The funny thing is that while closing the display you can clearly see the fragile piece of plastic that was used and where it is broken.

Hello.

I have an Asus X56TA laptop. It worked like a charm until yesterday, when suddenly, without any warnings, my left hinge just broke off when I was closing the screen.

It seems that the hinge just got _completely_ stuck. Really, like it was made of solid concrete. So when the screen worked as a lever, it easily broke off.

To illustrate my problem, here are some pictures:

Anyone has any tips what to do with this? Is there any chance of making the hinge work again? If yes, I thought of using some very powerful glue to "repair" the hinge. The plastic cover is 100% OK, so I only need some usability

I also found a brand new hinge for my notebook model on eBay. Is it possible to remove the broken hinge and install the new one?

Thanks in advance for all the tips.
