Accidently uninstalled software for Synaptics touchpad

Question: Accidently uninstalled software for Synaptics touchpad

Scroll bar on mouse quit working. I tried to update the driver on HP page. It gave me an error and told me to uninstall the current program. Now I don't have a program listed for Synaptics let alone a driver update. Mouse moves horizontally and vertically but no scroll capability

Preferred Solution: Accidently uninstalled software for Synaptics touchpad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Accidently uninstalled software for Synaptics touchpad

Hi: See if the driver directly from Synaptics works for you...3rd one on the list. http://www.synaptics.com/resources

I was recently deleting items I didn't want running from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Since I done this, Scroll on my Synaptics Touchpad does not work on startup unless I go into control panel, click mouse and then it just comes alive. I know it's not the end of the world but its annoying doing this every time I turn my laptop on.
On researching this problem iv'e since discovered msconfig and now realise this is a much easier and less destructive way to turn things off that I don't want running. On this point, there is nothing in msconfig startup for Synaptics for me to enable/disable.
Please help. Iv'e seen a thread on here very similar to this from 2 years ago but after 5 pages it was never solved.
Please someone help.
Thanks
Gary

Hi, I originally posted this problem on Tech Help but it was perhaps a bit verbose.
I have an HP Stream 11 which I recently updated to win 10.
Since then the touchpad does not work at all.
Following HP advise I removed the existing version of the software and tried to install the recommended version which fixes this issue.
The software downloads and says it has successfully installed.
Unfortunately it has not. The created synaptics folder only has two files in it. On my HP 15 the synaptic folder is full of files.
I've tried installing back versions, versions for other make laptops all to no avail.
I've spoken to HP at length but they seem unable to offer a solution.
Most of HP's suggestions involve 'Uninstall the software' I can't its not there.
'Go back to a restore point' I can't there are no restore points it being a new win 10 installation.
I'm really looking for pointers as to what to try next, I even deleted all the synaptics registry entries, thinking there may be a value in there which is prohibiting installation.
Any suggestions welcome, Thanks Al

Is it possible to configure a synaptics touch pad settings such as sensitivity, tapping, and type lock settings without the synaptics software?

When I upgraded my laptop to Vista, my touch pad became erratic randomly clicking both left and right buttons as well as being unresponsive and/or jumping to random locations. I discovered that the issue was caused by the synaptics software. When I uninstalled the software part of the driver, the touchpad worked fine, but I can't configure it. I've tried updating to the latest software/driver from the synaptics website as well as Compaq's recommended drivers for my laptop off their website and neither worked. I've also tried on several occasions to deal with Compaq chat tech support but was unable to come up with a solution.

If anyone knows if it can be configured in the registry, or if there is a config file that can be edited, or 3rd party software, please let me know if you have any ideas!

Just got an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.  Pretty great except I see that WmiPrvSE.exe is constantly using 1-4% CPU in task manager. After digging I discovered this is due to the following query being executed by SynTPEnh.exe when it starts up: SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WITHIN 1 WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_Process' This query string can be seen in the SynTPEnh.exe binary file via SysInternals procexp or strings tools. The query executes once every second indefinitely.  This seems minor but bad for battery life, but also seems unnecessary for touchpad functionality. I took a look at the reference SynTPEnh.exe that comes from Synaptics own website.  It does not contain the query string and so presumably does not rely on WMI for any functionality.  However the software on Synaptics appears to be old, from August 2015, so it is unclear if Lenovo or Synaptics has added the query since. What's up with this?  I'd like to not have my CPU used every second always, but I would also like my touchpad to function correctly.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad software makes 1 sec polling WMI query causing constant CPU utilization

Thank you for this problem report and sorry that I didn't notice it earlier.  We will check on this.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

I the process of removing some of my unneeded programs, (grandkids games etc.) I inadvertantly must have removed a program that lets me browse articles within my email. Example, Conservative Byte email lists articles and when I click onto an article that I would like to read, I just get a Google search page and not the article. What did I uninstall to remove that function? Thanks for any help.

Answer:uninstalled accidently

Do links in other emails still work and go directly to articles? (If you cannot find one) Open a story somewhere and copy the link and send to yourself and then when it comes back click on the link, this will at least tell you if it’s your setting or them or maybe the links are not up to date as in they could have moved the article

My list of programmes were in alphabetical order, so it either began with or before "Adobe". I'm guessing it's Active X as I can now start my internet explorer without Active X controls or extension.

Problem is, I have no idea which or where to download Active X.

To check what you uninstalled, press Windows Key + R to bring up the run window. Type in perfmon and press enter. On the left side, open up monitoring tools and select reliability monitor. On the chart on the right side, select the day when you uninstalled the program. On the bottom of the right side, you should be able to see which programs were uninstalled under the heading Program (Un)Installs.

What is the rest of the product name that you have? Beats is included in the sound driver. You can install that from the HP Recovery manager while logged into Windows, from the USB recovery flash drive. You can also download and double-click on the audio driver for Windows 8.1 at the suport portal download section for you ultrabook. I can't give you a direct link because I do not know which specific HP Pavilion x3 11n-xxxyy  ultrabook you own. The x and y components are the missing part of the product name you provided.

So basically i was on the 'add/uninstall programs' just clearing up unwanted programs and i came across the name 'realtek' and assumed that it was some worthless program so i uninstalled it without thinking and next thing you know i have no sound. When i go to the device manager and under 'others' it has a big yellow question mark and a small exclamation mark next to the name 'Audio device on high definition audio bus' and when i go to update driver it scans using the hardware update wizard and then at the end it says that the hardware wasnt installed because it couldnt find the right software. I've re-installed realtek software but i cant get my sound back. I have an Acer Aspire One D260-A netbook so i cant even put in a hardware disk to get my sound back. Im also using Windows XP. The next day he told me tried to do it himself. Messed it up and accidentally uninstalled windows live.
Now when I try to download 2011 it says that I need to take care of a few things first. I have to install windows platform update.
I saw it in Windows Live update the day before but I guess when my dad uninstalled Windows Live it got removed? So now I don't know what else to do.

Help please.

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

Answer:Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

Hello all

I received noticed of a new update for my GPU. Normally I click 'custom install' as to avoid installing any of the 3D drivers since I had no need for them.

Without thinking, I hit 'express install' and ended up installing all of the new drivers. After the install was complete, I went to manually uninstall the drivers I did not need.

I ended up uninstalling the wrong driver, and now my GPU will no longer display. I plugged into my motherboard directly, which is how I can see my display.

I went back to NVIDIA to try and install the drivers, but I get an error message during the install phase that "the graphics driver could not find the compatible graphics hardware".

I went back to NVIDIA's website to try and install the oldest drivers I could after receiving this message, but I am met with the same thing.

The last thing I did was go into my Device Manager -> Display Adapters in hopes that it would be there so I could reset it, but it's not showing up there either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Click "Close" and then "OK"

I cannot enable my Synsptics TouchPad in my Toshiba A-135-S4537 laptop.  I have Win 7 Home Priemun 32 Bit OS. The touchpad worked fine before I disabled it but when I tried to enable it again it would not work.  The Device Manager says that the driver  is up to date.  I  uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it again to no avail.   The Device Manager says that the touchpad is installed and working fine but actually does not work.  Can anyone help me correct this problem?

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

Hello,

Recently my Synaptics TouchPad suddenly stopped working on my Compaq M2000 laptop; I fixed the problem by re-installing the Synaptics driver. When I restarted the computer, the TouchPad was working fine, but the keyboard was not working at all, so now I cannot type in my password to log onto the computer.

Is there any way to solve this problem without having to format the computer?

Answer:Synaptics TouchPad

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

My touchpad isn't working. I can't get my cursor to move or click. I might of accidently disabled it but after doing research Fn+F6 should enable/disable it and I tried it and it's not working. I upgraded to Win10 the day before that, it was working until earlier. Help? I've also seen this site http://superuser.com/questions/698154/windows-8-1-disabling-touchpad-with-usb-mouse-but-does-not-per... and when I go there I don't have anything listed. I don't have Elan Smart-Pad or anything. What's going on? Did Win10 mess something up? I didn't do anything besides that and it was working after the update. But like a day later it isn't.

Dear Team, I have recently upgraded the drivers for Synaptics touchpad on my HP laptop (HP Pavilion G4-2049Tx).Everytime I reboot my machine, or "Log On" Synaptics touchpad gestures doesn't seem to work ever since the drivers upgrade. In order that the gestures start working; I have to manually launch any Synaptics related process after log on.To my surprise; Synaptics is already a part of StartUp processes in my Windows OS still it doesn't get triggered at the time of boot. On the top of that; as always I have been facing overheating issues at the time of charging my laptop since quite a long.It becomes impossible to rest the "laptop" on ones "lap" while its getting charged. Kindly help me solve these issues. Thanks in advance!Cheers,Ameya

Hello! My laptop has an issue about its mousepad. It was working fine last year before I double-tapped the upper left part of my mousepad (to disable it for a bit). I forgot to enable it again, and I turned my laptop off. Until then, it does not work anymore. I tried to follow the instructions that I read from different forums, but nothing happened. I already uninstalled it, then reinstall it again, but it is still not working. Can anyone help me? My laptop is a Pavilion g4-2220tx, bought it last March 5, 2013. I'll send some details of my driver. Anyway, the driver Synaptics PS/2 Touchpad is not found unless I turn 'Show hidden drivers' on to make the driver appear. Thank you to anyone who's willing to help me!

Hi, Try the following. First of all, download the Chipset driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59647.exe When done, open Device Manager, right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall. When this has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the chipset installaer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61882.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

My Ideapad Z580 is a month out of warranty and the Synaptics touchpad keys suddenly stopped working todayabout 24 hours after I applied a raft of Windows 8.1 updates. I subsequently did a system restore back to just after the updates were applied and this has given me back use of the left and right touchpad buttons but I also seem to have lost the configuring app, the icon for which used to be in with a load of other hidden icons in the system tray. How can I retrieve it please because, although the touchpad now works again, it is pretty well unusable and I'm having to rely on my trusty old wire less mouse?

Answer:Cannot configure Synaptics touchpad

Forget what I asked in my earlier post. It seems that, if I uninstall the touchpad, then, after a reboot, it is automatically reinstalled but the Synaptics Pointing Device icon subsequently take a long time to reappear in the system tray, allowing me to change settings again. I can't say the touchpad is a joy to use (it never has been) but it is usable even if it does seem to be playing silly buggers now and again, ie the the cursor occasionally picks up fields it passes over and drags them round the screen.

Hello Everyone, I do not usually use forums and other kinds of helps, but guys, this is hilarious.Or... it would be hilarious if happened to another person, yeah. basic data --Probook 455 G2Windows 8.1 64-bit(McAfee IS) So, my Synaptics touchpad started behaving in an odd way yesterday. That is: it works fine at startup, but the tapping surface stops reacting after a few seconds - sometimes after a few minutes. What remains is even more strange: the two buttons remain operational, and the bottom approx. 10% of the surface reacts to right and left movements, while the upper 90% zooms in and out whatever is on the screen... WHOA? And sometimes it goes back working for no obvious reasons. Before stopping again.Next: If I close the lid and open after a few sec, the wake-up process starts and the touchpad works fine until... go to 10.And it is not over: the tapping surface works fine IF I KEEP ONE OR BOTH BUTTONS PRESSED. ?? :-) naturally this is not a "solution" as all side effects of a pressed mouse button occur. But the pointer moves, yeah. Umm. [UPDATE: this later phenomenon was a seemingly software-related sticky Ctrl issue that stopped occurring] What I did this far:1. So bad noone is able to answer this question. :-(Update:- touchpad always starts ok when ProBook is switched on, but halts after an indeterminable (that is always changing) time;- I am unable to determine the trigger - I do not know what (later starting background process and/or clash of processes??) causes this behaviour;- when operable it is like trying to drive a waterbed in the Monaco Grand Prix - lags and slides;- when stops the bottom 10% of the touchpad reflects to left/right impulses and the buttons work well;- quite often is starts again if I move a plug-in mouse and switch back to touchpad after a minute or so - but NOT always;- had a "sticky Ctrl" issue earlier (had loads of fun...)- this is NOT the same;- if the touchpad is stuck with no signs of life I switch off Synaptics processes from Task Manager - I gain a very strange touchpad without the extras of Synaptics and Shaking Like Hell. Hello,

I just got an Acer Windows 8 PC, and none of the touchpad gestures seem to be working. I have tried using several recommended third-party tools and all of them said that I didn't have the correct drivers, even after I installed all of them.

I have gone to mouse --> Synaptics --> Settings, and the only options there are to enable/disable the buttons.

Is there any way to enable multi-touch?

Thanks,

My HP notebook was Windows 10 and was downgraded to Windows 7.   My touchpad is too touchy and I continuously find that it moves around the screen while i am typing.  I thought that I would just disable it.  It shows up on the hardware as a mouse PS2 and it does not have a disable button.  I just deleted the install file but it constantly re-loads on a re-boot.  I love my HP notebook, but the touchpad is driving me crazy, please help me.

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

Hi all,

I tried to install a wireless mouse for my laptop, which I could't get to work(!). No problem, except that when I returned to using my normal Synaptics Touchpad it had lost it's Virtual Scrolling capability. Also, its touch-sensitive areas no longer work.

Furthermore, Synaptics Touchpad seems to have (semi-)disappeared from my computer ("semi" in the sense that the touchpad itself still performs basic functions like moving and highlighting.)

Also, I can no longer find Synaptics in my tray.

I can't find the Touchpad anywhere in Control Panel to get at the settings.

IIRC, there used to be a Synaptics properties window somewhere that allowed you adjust all this stuff - again, I can't seem to find this anywhere.

(My computer: Dell Inspiron 5100, Windows XP, no other problems with computer.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements?

I am not sure why this happens, it may be a bad driver installation from what I have been reading online this happens a lot after people install new updates. The quick "solve it now" solution would be to navigate to the synaptics folder on your computer (C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP) find SynTPEnh.exe run this program and you should have your scroll function and everything back. If it keeps ending the program on you after you have tried this maybe try finding an older version of the driver to instal, or put a shortcut link to the fore mentioned program on your desktop for easy access.

my synaptics touchpad has a mind of its own
Hello this is my first posting to your Windows seven forum. I am writing to you today because over the past two to three weeks my Synaptics touchpad mouse has had a mind of its own. It has been clicking and opening files without me pressing the mouse buttons or tapping the touchpad, scrolling by itself, highlighting and moving the files on my desktop and in my computer, etc. I have tried everything from physically cleaning the Touchpad thoroughly, updating the Synaptics driver time and time again only to find no resolution to this issue, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled previous versions of the synaptics drivers that worked before with my laptop only to be confronted with this same problem. I have ran scans on both Uni-blue registry booster and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which I use as my registry and anti-virus/spyware programs) and of which I update on a daily/weekly basis and yet I have found no traces of what may be causing my mouse to act so crazy. I have also ran the system scan in the command prompt which was suggested earlier in this thread only to find out that everything was running properly and at 100% integrity.

Is the touchpad problem resolved with the "new" versions?             Thanks! Mariano

Maybe  you might like to post which IdeaPad you purchased in order that members have a chance of answering your question?  It might also be an idea to post the production date which should, if I am right, be on the box.

I recently purchased a laptop. If i use the touchpad for a while or in certain places (the common room of my college sometimes) the touchpad begins acting wierd. When i drap the pointer along and lif my finger up, sometimes it moves back to it original position or somewhere near, s its difficult to select things.
Any help or ideas apreciated

OK here is the problem,
I was using the touch-pad as always and it was working just fine all morning
than I put my system in standby when i returned my touch-pad was not responding. When I checked the driver properties under device status it read:
device could not start (code 10).
I rolled the driver back and nothing then I tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver from a download I got from the gateway website still nothing finally I tried a simple system restore (not a complete restore w/disk just restored back to sometime yesterday) still nothing even though it was working fine in the time frame i had restored back too.

if Anyone has any ideas let me know, I would greatly appreciate the help.

i am currently having touchpad and mouse problems.i used my wireless mouse once and my trachpad stopped working compltetely.i have seen that this is a common problem but ive tried everything and nothing works. a hard reset worked once to get my mouse pad working again without the wirelss mouse but when i needed to click it was doing nothing. i have tried another hard reset but the mouse pad still didnt work. the mouse only appears when i plug in the wireless mouse in. when i go into settings there is not synaptics, so i downloaded synaptics for my laptop and it said "could not find OS specific program." so i unistalled the previous version, downloaded the version for my laptop but still said the same thing even though it was the version for my laptop.Any idea's????

My laptop was working oerfectly and then all of a sudden my touchpad began beeping out of control whenever i touched it.
the mouse will not move, tons of programs open up and then the cpu shuts off, also the keybord becomes disabled. at boot i hear a loud beep and sometimes get a mouse error and keyboard error. i've uninstalled the touchpad and re-installed but it did not work. had to disable touchpad and use external mouse, works fine this way. is there something i can do?

Hello,
My problem is that after switching off the touchpad mouse some time ago, now I cannot switsh it on. Usually I use a normal mouse, as it is more convienient. But when I am out of home I surely would like to use the touchpad one.
When I try to habilitate it in the contral panel, it works for several seconds only. I tryed it with and without the normal mouse - no differrence.
My computor is Acer Aspire 5610, Windows XP. Never had viruses.
I have tried to download a new driver from the link I have found in this post:
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=43310
and put it on the existing one - no result.
Maybe I should delete the old version driver and then put the new one?
In advance thank everyone for help.
Irina

Hello, this is a strange problem I am having...
I used to have xp on my amilo laptop, with synaptics driver 7.10.10, May 2004 driver. The nice thing about this was that the touchpad was disabled when an external mouse was plugged in, just by ticking the proper box in the driver setting panel (disable touchpad when external ... ). Easy and working fine: also, the touchpad was reenabled automatically removing the external mouse.
Now I switched to win7, and I lost this capability. Fujitsu site does not have an updated driver, and recommends to use the manufacturer drivers. Fine, but...
1) the latest version for Win 7/Vista 32 bit is 14.0.3.C, it works OK but there is no trace of that box (disable touchpad when external...): you can only disable the touchpad, and reenable manually.
2) in desperation, I took the old driver used in xp, run the setup in compatibility mode, and it installed (barring the usual complaints about incompatibility); again, it works fine, but no trace of that capability.

Is something in win7 preventing this feature from working? Or is some mix of amilo hardware and win7 causing the problem?
Thanks for any suggestion

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad no longer has scolling ability. I have tried vertical and horizontal, as well as 1 and 2 finger. The touch pad is enabled and scolling is enabled. The current driver is 19.0.12.98 which was updated by windows update. I have downloaded and installed 19.0.19.1 from the Synaptics website and it didn't work. I have tried the Windows 8 driver from Synaptics as well and had no luck (failed to install even in compatibility mode). The original Compaq Windows 7 driver wouldn't work either. Unable to find any solution by searching or reading the forums. Any help is appreciated.

I previously included this problem in another thread but I thought I'd sorted it. I can't get on with Touchpads so I wanted to disable it. Couldn't do it in Device Mnr (disable is greyed out) and deleting the driver just leads to it re-installing at every start-up. I found I can disable it under Control Panel - Mouse - Other pointing Devices. A few days later it's not only back (although still shows as disabled) and every time I restart I get a little box marked Synaptics asking to Run the exe file!
I just can't get rid of it. It can be diabled via fn+F5 - but I always forget. Had the same problem on my Acer so I lifted the keyboard and pulled the ribbon cable out. But I can't do that on the Samsung because the keyboard is under the casing top and the keys poke through holes. I don't fancy splitting the case.
Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad Returns - again!

Do you have CCleaner?
if so look in Tools - Start up - there may be a program there you can disable to stop the pad from working. (SunthTP.exe or something similar)
