HP Envy Battery Problems - not charging when on, charging fu...

Question: HP Envy Battery Problems - not charging when on, charging fu...

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Hi as usual, a problem starts after warranty. And just 3 months, lol.Anyway, when I remove the power cord, it shuts down the laptop. In other words, it is not charging the battery. It can either be the battery or the charging circuit board. is there any way of telling exactly what is wrong before I have to dish out more of my money to HP??? Thank you

We have an HP Envy 15 model G6T85UA #ABA notebook that is recieving a "Not Charging" message for the battery. I have run the HP Assistance and the CMOS battery check and both say they pass.  The power adapter powers the laptop fine and I can use the laptop.  I have installed all of the latest windows updates and I have updated the BIOS.  I have uninstalled the Battery and Power adapter drivers and rebooted. I have tried several different plugs in my house and still have the problem.  I have turned the laptop off overnight and let the battery charge but it fails to charge. When I run the HP assistant batter check the "Not Charging" message is changed to "Charging" but then goes back to "Not Charging" after a few minutes. The battery is not removable unless I take the bottom off the laptop. What do I do next? Thanks, Michael

I bought this laptop in June 15, so the warranty just expired a couple of months ago. A few days ago the battery simply stopped charging. It works fine when plugged in (with or without the battery), but when plugged in it displays status as "0% available (plugged in, not charging). When I plug it in the charging light turns orange like it's supposed to, but within 5-10 seconds it turns white, as if it's fully charged. Of course it's not though, as it's at 0%, and if I take the plug out it dies immediately. I have always used only genuine HP charger/battery, and although I understand batteries lose life, having this happen after 14 months is not normal. Is there any way to fix this? I looked at "HP Assistant," but I don't see any battery diagnostics. Thank you for your help!

As if my noisy fan problem wasn't enough (still looking for a solution that doesn't involve sending it back), today I noticed both batteries (the main 6-cell one and the 9-cell slice) were listed as "plugged in, not charging". Clearly not very useful if I want to use it tomorrow on batteries. So I fiddled with the slice connection to see if that was the problem and the battery icon in the taskbar flickered between full (100%), no slice connected and the current not charging. It seems it's a slice issue, as I went into the BIOS and told the Envy to fully charge the main battery before charging the slice and now at least I have the 6-cell at 100%. However, the slice simply won't charge. There's not much about this even after a Google search, but from what I gathered, it seems it's more than just a slice connection issue. I even read about overheating damaging the diode on the motherboard which controls battery charging... Restarting doesn't seem to do anything, nor does altering the connection itself or adjusting BIOS settings. Could this be a software issue that I could fix myself, or do I finally have to figure out a way to get this to HP Korea and (possibly) argue my way for an international warranty to be accepted (which I've also read horror-stories about)?

Answer:HP Envy Battery "plugged in, not charging"

Similar problem, but I disconnected the slice while the system is on, and set the laptop back down on it- now says "charging." The internal battery is at 100%.

Ok let me cut to the chase: I;ve tried all "normal" test and options to verify what the problem isn't: it's not the battery and not the AC charger .  What I really want to know is whether anyone has solved this problem by replacing the motherboard or changing BIOS. HP has been of no help on this matter, and they actually want me to just buy a new laptop or pay them $350 to let them "fix it".  Two things I find strange are: why have there been no BIOS updates in the 3 years since this laptop was built, and I'm also seeing that there is no download whatsoever for even a reinstall of BIOS; and also, why -- despite the fact that MANY people seem to have had battery/power/charging issues on HP laptops in the past few years (if not longer) -- am I seeing no actual root causes online? I don't want to just throw money at the problem (forgive me, but I'm an engineer), I want to know what's going on and whether I can expect the problem to happen again. I've been through 3 batteries, and 2 chargers and the story is the same: the HP Diagnostics (UEFI?) tell me the battery needs to be replaced.  The battery never gets charged above the charge level it was at when I receive the new battery (70-75% charge for all 3 batteries), and draining the battery to a low level (about 5%) and it doesn't go up.  The laptop is not charging the battery. I get an orange light which tells me it's "trying" to charge the battery, and the behavior is the same for 2 ... Read more

So I've had problems with my battery charging. At first it was the AC adapter, I got a new one. Then my battery wasn't holding a charge, so I got a new battery. Now my new battery still isn't charging. It says "plugged in, charging", but won't go above 17% no matter how long it charges. I'm not good with computers, what do I do now?

Hello,I know there is a few post on this particular issue and I will list what I have attempted to do.1. Deleting the charging driver (and also AC Adapter)2. Pulling the plug using windows+b+power3. Updating bios to latest.4. Checked all the wall outlets in my house.5. Used Hp Assist Center/Bios to check battery status.I keep hitting error 601 mainly and have hit error 502 on boot.  In the HP battery checker the both batteries are not detected which is weird.  It's like the battery is not plugged in because both batteries are grayed out, is there any reason why this should be?  I'm really hoping I dont have to replace the  battery or it is covered under the "battery recall" I saw on the hp site somewhere.  This laptop is hardly used by my mother as she really has only been using it for work for the past year-year and a half, I would say nothing over 200 charge cycles.Thank you!

I am having an issue with HP Envy 15. It will work with the battery in, but no power light comes on (either white or amber). With battery removed, the laptop won't boot, and LED flashes three times white. Issue:When plugged in, battery in, Laptop will boot up, no lights on, PC works. Battery doesn't charge, but doesn't discharge eitherWhen plugged in, no battery, Laptop does not boot, and LED power indicator flash three times whiteWhen unplugged, battery in, Laptop runs, but battery discharges. I've searched the net and this forum extensively. Most "three flashes" occur when laptop won't boot. I don't have that issue when the battery is in. Only with the battery removed. I've tried the CMOS battery drain trick, no changes. I've tried a new battery, no changeI've check the power plug 'pin', it is straight. Anyone have an idea what might be going on?  I am good with this laptop until something happens that both batteries end up dead, then I am stuck with a laptop that is basically a high-priced door stop. Thanks in advance.

Problem started two weeks ago. Could not power on the laptop, tried many different power outlets. Purchased a universal Laptop charger/cord and it still didn't work. Removed battery, attached power cord and could boot computer on...put the battery back in but battery would not take a charge even though the battery indicator light was amber and the icon in the Win tool bar displayed: 36% available (plugged in, charging). Clicked the icon and displayed 36%, Calculating... Left laptop turned on overnight with battery in and 8 hours later it was still at 36%. With Laptop turned on, I can remove Laptop power cord and battery will continue operation, depleting the battery but when I reconnect the power cord it does not charge the battery (no green light or amber light).  Bottom line, attached power cord with battery in and get no power (green or amber), period. Remove battery, attach power cord and I can boot up the computer. Ran Systems Test - Battery Check: Primary - Replace (42) and received Failure ID:  QAMPPV-82387T-MFGJXF-C0D703. This failure on a brand new battery just recieved two days ago. Same errors with the original battery.  Attempted a power reset to no avail. I could run laptop using the power cord only but doing this would defeat the purpose of owning a laptop. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop.  The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position.  This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent.  The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in.  I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it.  I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange.  The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. &n... Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.
? If the charge indictor is blinking or the ? power button does not work, a battery error may have occurred or the battery pack may not be detected.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.
     - Link to picture

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi Support,
I have issue about battery with my laptop (Dell Precision M5510). Windows 10.
It stop charging at 45%. Show mess plugged in, not charging.
I try fix with tutorial on youtube
In Bios, I try change to option Standard. Battery infomation Excellent
But cannot fix. Please help.

Answer:Battery stop charging at 45%, plugged in, not charging

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.
Is the battery the original one that arrived with the system?

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi, I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A". I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them. Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux. I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W). The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my ... Answer:Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer:G50-70 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hello,

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.

I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Edit:
******Solution******

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

The new replacement battery for my T40 is not charging at all. in spite of the fact that the T40 battery statistics state the battery is healthy , charging and behaving normally  (with currently 0 % charge, 8.64 voltage, 24 C temperature (not hot)).  The T40 works just fine when plugged into a wall outlet so the problem is not the A/C adapter.  The T40 device manager gives correct manufacturing date 2/09 and correct T40 plug in date of 4/09, serial number, etc.  the design voltage is 10.80 V so it knows what is there.  I am using windows XP prof... This battery is  6 cell..  The original battery was a 9 cell. The manufacturer contends this battery will work on any T40 and the manual indicates that either 6 cell or 9 cell can be used... The only abnormal indication so far is that when I asked  the Lenovo site to automatically identify the specs of my T40, it listed  a 9 cell battery instead of a 6 cell one.   Does that tell us anything about what might be wrong?  with respect to the suggestions on the regular lenovo site, I already did all  that I could do  including sending the first replacement battery back to the manufacturer who then sent a second one to me.  I couldn't upgrade the battery controller because that first required an upgrade of the Bios and I can't do the Bios upgrade without a fully charged battery.  Thanks very much for any help.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

Answer:G50-70 Battery says "Plugged in, Charging" but not charging

Hi Mistwild82,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.

Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.

Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

hi, I'm exactly similar problem.  it is really annoying. I have sent it to service centre once, they simply don't know and just reset the unit by pressing small hole at the tablet, the they do full recharge.  some how it works. later, at the same day occurred again and I tried replicate same process but no luck. then I follow instruction from one of the suggestion in this forum, it solved. it was 2-3 mth ago. now, after I upgrade to windows 8.1, the problem came back. all of this problem created from lenovo power management software together with their metro apps which setting what power management should do. the real culprits when you have setup some setting, then you undock or dock the tablet.. so I believe the software got confuse between the current setting with two unit (keyboard and tablet) especially if you ever play around with setting to extend the battery life which the power management will allow the battery to be charged not more than 50%. what the bad idea ... may not so bad but bad execution... we dont want this stupid geniuses ... we just want our unit working as when we purchase it. your latest driver is suck... big time... u should fire your engineer. .. pay 2k but got monkey ....

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

I recently bought a used Acer Aspire 5100 and bought two replacement batteries. Since I received them I have been trying to get them to charge without much success. I have discharged and tried to recharge them at least a dozen times. Most of the time I can only recharge them to about 37%. Occassionally it gets up to 57-65% and then the next time it is back only to about 37%. The battery that I got with the computer charges completely to 100% but I don't know for how long which is why I got the spare batteries. What is wrong?

Answer:Problems with battery charging

Hi himanshu19j,

thanks pfor posting and welcome to the community.

Based from your post this does seem likey to be the caused of the Battery setting of the Lenovo Energy Management.
To solve this please Follow the instructions below.

Open the Lenovo Energy Management. This can be found in the "ALL PROGRAMS" in the Stat Menu.
Once open, Click on the Battery Icon found on the Bottom right of the Energy Management Menu. (See Illustration Below, (Icon Hightlighted in yelllow))

Once you've clicked on the battery Icon A new Menu Window should have appeard.
Select Battery Fully charged Mode.

This should get your machine charing back to normal. It is most probably that your machine is set to Battery protection mode as this feature was made to save your machine from over charging the battery. This modeis best suited for user which runs the machine for long hours with the AC and battery connected together.

Hope this helps.

I bought my Acer Aspire 5535 back last year, and recently (about 2 months ago) I had to buy a new battery for it. I bought it off Amazon, and it has been working fine until the last two days. The other night, it suddenly turned off and since then, when I plug it in, it says that it's plugged in and charging, but it only stays at 15% and every time I unplug the charger, my computer turns off. I'm not sure what to do, because I don't want to have to keep my computer plugged in for it to work, but I just bought this battery and I'm not sure if I have to buy another.

Hello Shampersands and welcome to TSG...

It's likely the battery is defective. It happens.

If you have the paperwork, see what warranty exists and what you need to do to get a replacement.

This also happened from another new battery I purchased online. thanks

hello, received my new y50 a few days ago and began seting it up. the first few hours it was working fine. battery charged up to the full 100%, i then disconected the power cord to let the battery drain down to about 20%. i then plugged it back in and shut the computer down left it charging overnight. this is when the problems started. waking up the next day i turn it back on to see that the battery is only at 21%. no mater how long i left it charging it did not change from 21%. So i decide to unplug it again to let it fully discharge. while unplugged it ran for another ~hour all the time staying at 21% until i finally shut off out of nowhere. plugged in the cord and turned it back on, battery shows 0% plugged in, charging. but it never gains any % charge just stuck there. i do some reading online and decide to do the generic power down, unplug power cord and remove battery, hold power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect everything and power up. When it boots up the battery indicator now shows 2% and over the course of the next 10-12 hours it increased by mabe 30% more. the indicator NEVER changes its percent the only way to see the change in the charge is to shutdown/restart. today is the third day and after many hours of use i got stuck at around 76% (only reaching this number by restarting every few hours to get a new updated battery charge%)  since it stayed stuck at 76% for a while i went for the more hardcore fix ive seen online: power down>... Thanks for the Help.

Also its a gateway t-6859 laptop.

Answer:Laptop has problems with charging unless I wiggle the charging pin.

how old is the laptop sounds like your ac in port has de-soldered from the psu part of the motherboard. its the most common thing to break on laptops since they get a lot of stress from the cables pulling on them or they are built cheap either way. is is it still in warranty?

Now and again it would go up to 100%Now it won't even charge at all.I've had days when it won't start up at all (Even when plugged into the mains).Another problem is it 'clicks' and all devices seem to be disabled, and sometimes my 100% charged battery is at 0%!! probably either bad battery or bad charging board, which is unfortunately part of the motherboard. Try another battery, if it doesn't work then it is the charging board. click here

If not plugged in, I can't even turn it on, and the yellow power light blinks. The computer itself runs normally once it is up and running. FYI I have had this problem in the past, and I think it self-corrected after a few days. But how can I fix this for good?

Hi everyone. A few weeks ago the ac charger for my Asus F7 gave up, so I bought another one. However, (coincidentally?) my battery has not been charging properly since, even though I have tried other chargers. Now the battery is totally dead. Additionally the time & date has reset to 2008 each time the laptop is shut down. Replaced the CMOS battery but this didn't make any difference.
Could something have shorted/broken that will affect both batteries or does the CMOS battery rely on a little power from the main battery to keep it going? Does anyone have an idea what could have gone wrong as I am loathe to spend >£30 on a new battery if there's nothing wrong with it?
Thanks for looking.

Although this is not a solution (it's the best I can think of)...just try putting your computer into hibernation mode (when closing down) so the clock stays at the right time. When I close (the lid on) my laptop, it does just that.

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.

After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.

For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Thank you for your help,

Hi, I have an HP Pavillion dv6253cl (dv6000 series) with Vista Home, and I'm having problems getting the battery to charge. First off, I should probably say that there was a power outage due to rain and lightning last night when the laptop was in hibernate, and the problem first started this morning when I booted it back up (probably not a coincidence). My HP warranty is expired, so I can't turn to them.

I'm currently running off AC power, and if I were to unplug the cord even for a second, the computer would lose power and shut down (I tried once). The battery is plugged in, but there is literally no power, absolutely 0%.

The blue light around the AC adapter works fine, and when the battery is plugged in, the charging light on the front is lit up as if it is charging. When I take out the battery, the charging light goes out, then turns on when I plug the battery back in. Also, when I plug the battery back in, the battery sign in the taskbar indicates that it is charging, but it stops after maybe 10 seconds.

It will also periodically say in the taskbar that it is 100% charged, but it will go back to 0% after a few seconds. I'm not sure why.

Things I've tried:
1. Shut down computer, remove AC and battery for several minutes, plug both back in, boot up computer. Didn't work.
2. Downloaded HP's "Battery Check" software. It says that it is 0% charged, and under "Health", it says "Replace". Not good.
3. Looked in... Read more

Hello, I have a HP 4530s with this problem: If I remove and insert the battery while Windows is running, the battery charges for a little while and then stops charging ("Plugged in, not charging). An orange light is blinking near the power connector. If I remove and insert the battery again, it charges for a while and then stops again. If I turn off Windows and disconnect AC power, if the orange light was blonking, it continues blonking (didn't wait to see how long). If I do this enough times, the battery charges to full. When I disconnect the AC power the laptop works normally on the battery (battery capacity is OK). What I have tried:1. removing the battery, disconnecting AC, holding power button for 40s, reconnecting AC, starting Windows, shutting down Windows, inserting the battery.2. Updating the BIOS to the latest version (F60) - this actually helped because previously the battery was not detected at all if removed and inserted until I did #1.

Hi nsoldicic ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try going to Device Manager and uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller if listed.

If same issue Uninstall Energy management from the programs and features under control panel . check if there is any difference , You may reinstall updated version from support site.

You may also update the BIOS following this discussion :
A  new BIOS update was released on May 15th that addresses customer reports of inconsistent charging on Yoga 3 Pro laptops. It can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-pro-1370-laptop-len...

Hey everyone, whats goin on? I posted in a bit. But im back for some expert help. I just recieved a free laptop, DellXPS m140 100gb HD 1 gig ram, not bad. the reason i was given it was that the screen would need to be pressed to get the image to display,i opened it and the screen lcd was loose. Easy fix! Well the last problem i have is with the battery. I will plug the A/C adapter in the laptop (no battery installed) and plug it in the wall. Turns on, no problem. But when i have the A/C adapter connected and insert the battery, the light on the power convertor or whatever you call it, located in the middle of the power cable, that LED dims out., laptop top wont turn on. I was told to open up the area with the ram and reseat it, no go.

I would really like to fix this last problem, because this laptop would be perfect.
Thanks for anyone who helps ad gives insight.
Thanks again steve

The problem is that when I plug in my AC adapter, it does not charge my battery. I tried every power outlet at home with no luck. I tried at a coffee shop and didnt work. Tried at a friends place and started charging the battery. Seems like it has a mind of its own. I took my laptop to a computer repair store, they tested the AC adapter and confirmed that it was working. I called Lenovo Tech Support in Canada and they refused to help me stating that I ran out of warranty about a month ago. If you can please guide me to the right direction, I will really appreciate it.

Good day and welcome to the community.

You may wish to check your support pages for newer BIOS and kb/dock firmware releases as there have been recent updates posted. There a number of battery-related fixes list in the BIOS changelog, although none are exactly what you describe.

I have an HP Split, it currently works fine in tablet mode, but when I attach it to the keyboard, the screen becomes unresponsive to touch, the keyboard doesn't work, no does the charger, or the mouse.  The laptop is only a year old, and it is extremely frustrating that many people are having this issue and there does not seem to be a working solution posted anywhere.  Also,  I am dissapointed that HP has no alternative docking system to use with the split to serve as a work-around when this issue occurs.  I depend on my laptop for work, and I am immensely dissapointed.  This will most likely my first and last HP laptop.

I hope someone here would helped me out in my problem. I bought my Toshiba Portege M900 last 2010. I would always plugin the charger to my laptop when I am at work.

There this one time that when I turned on my laptop, the battery was about to be empty like 7% remaining. I took my charger and plugged it in. After 5 seconds, it turned off without any warning or so.

I checked the lights in the laptop, the "charging light" is not ON despite that the charger was plugged in the socket. I tried to use the charger to my other Toshiba Sattelite Laptop and it worked.

I tried to remove the battery of the Toshiba Portege M900 Laptop from its place and plugged again the charger but still it did not turned ON.

So I took my Toshiba Portege M900 to the nearest service center. But surprisingly when I got there and related the problem to the technician, the laptop turned on after it was plugged. The technician said, he couldn't see any problems because the laptop was charging and it turned on right.

But when I took it home, whenever I remove the charger from the socket of the laptop, it would turn off immediately without any warning eventhough that battery is 100% charged.

And there were times, even if I remove the battery from the laptop but still plug the charger in.. the laptop will still NOT TURN ON.

I tried to check the Toshiba PC Health Monitor, but it would said that the battery is working good. What do you think seems to be the problem? Is it the bat... Read more

Answer:Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging

> Is it the battery, or the power jack, or the motherboard or the charger

I don?t think its battery issue.
Why? Because the notebook does not power up even if the battery is removed but connected to AC adaptor.

_Power jack?_
Maybe. It could be possible that power jack or connection between the power jack and the motherboard isn?t ok.

_Motherboard?_
It could be an problem with power supply electronic which is part of the motherboard but once again; this is just an idea?

_Charger /AC adaptor?_
Hmm? you said that the AC adaptor has been tested with another notebook and it worked. So possibly it?s not AC adaptor issue.
But are you sure that the other notebook did not run at battery power?
Has the AC adaptor been tested properly? This is an open question.

Another idea:
What BIOS version do you have installed on M900?
Found an BIOS update for the Protege M900
+BIOS version 2.40 upgrade for Portege M900 and Satellite Pro U500( For PSU56*, PSU5C*, PSU5J*, PSU5Q*, PSU86*, PSU8G* and PSU53* ONLY)+
http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/support/drivers/details/30516

There you can find an detail about fixed issue:
+System may not power on without using AC Adapter after the battery has been detached and reattach again. This has been fixed.+

Please check if your Portege M900 is one of the mentioned models and check if an BIOS update is available for your unit.

My fisrt battery on the laptop lasted for about 3 years eventually failing to the point where it would only last 5 mins. I purchased a new battery (same model No etc) from Battech everything was fine after about ten repetitions on chargeing it was lasting just over 60 mins. But after about 5 months it suddenly started lasting only about 25/30 mins, I contacted the supplier and they replaced the battery saying that it should last much longer but the new battery supplied would not last more than 30 mins from receiving it. The supplier provided another unit and this one will not charge at all. The computer is recognising the battery (in power options on the control panel) and the charging light is illuminated but it does not charge, the battery supplier has suggested that the BIOS of the computer should be upgraded to overcome the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem and got any suggestions please

Answer:Time 8375 laptop battery charging problems

Never seen anything like this that didn't turn out to be a hardware fault, either dodgy battery or defective charging unit. I love the BIOS suggestion though and would be fascinated to hear how changing the BIOS on a laptop with a proven history of functionality is supposed to have even the slightest affect on it's ability to charge the battery. I'd certainly not recommend fiddling with the BIOS without knowing precisely what it's supposed to achieve, as it has the potential to kill a computer stone dead if it doesn't work. When you throw a possible power supply problem into the mix, I'd be loathe to try it.

First things first, Dell Inspiron 1501 NOT 1505. Ok? Now, this computer is pretty used, and long lived somewhat at 3 years, one battery. Last year, it completely accpeted no charge. I am on it, using AC power. I wouldn't mind AC power too much, but the power cord providing AC power, is sooooo mucked up. (will it stay in long enough to post this message???) I COULD buy a new battery (100$!!?!?), yet my dad has no job ATM. Any suggestions? PLEASE!

 1. ac adapter is not recognized when plugged into the keyboard dock but it is recognized when plugged into the tablet section only.2. keyboard dock battery often doesn't charge when ac adapter is connected to the keyboard dock, though the tablet battery usually charges. i can usually get the keyboard dock battery to eventually charge using the paperclip reset method but it sometimes takes several tries and since there is no indicator that the ac adapeter is connected I have to wait a while to see if it is working.3. when the ac adapter is plugged into the keyboard dock, i get the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" in the system tray. Clicking on the icon reveals the "Eject Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" notification. I've tried removing the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Lenovo Power Management drivers that has been posted in the forums but no change. Apparently there is a firmware update for the Helix Enhanced Keyboard Dock (v1.15)> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035554 However, when I try and install it, i need to have AC adaptor connected. But the Keyboard Dock does not recognize the AC Adapter - hence the firmware won't be applied. Obviously it is a bit hard to install a firmware for the keyboard dock, if the keyboard dock is not recognising the AC Adapter. and this is made stranger because the firmware is meant to resolve an issue with AC adaptor wattage. Any suggesti... Answer:Helix battery charging/keyboard dock/ac adapter problems

When you say the keyboard is not charging, yoiu mean the charging meter shows plugged in, not charging with some battery percentage displayed, or nothing was showing there. When you plug the AC power, you should see fast three flushes of the red light indicator in both keyboard and tablet. If you disconnect the tablet and plug the AC into the keyboard, you should also see three flushes of the red light. If this occurs, that means your keyboard can recongnize the AC adaptor. My helix also has a problem of showing correct battery level when charging or on battery, but if I disconnect the tablet and reconnect it, the keyboard battery level will be correctly shown. I think there is a problem with the lenovo power management dealing with two batteroes. If this is not the case, you may try to uninstall the AC adaptor drive from Device Manager and reboot with AC plugged in. Holp this helps.

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

I have actually had this problem among others with this model.  First off, I'll talk about the battery issue. I have read on other support pages that if I remove the battery and pop it back in, with a little wiggling, it should work. No luck there.  Another suggestion was to delete anything that looked like "Lenovo Battery Manager." Again, no luck.   Secondly, the laptop shuts off if the CPU is running at full for about an hour even if it's cool to the touch. It might be related to the battery issue, it might not.  Finally, the Optiarc BD-ROM drive keeps restarting until I open it and leave it open. The only other workaround would be to double click on the big drive button and waiting several minutes for it to finish and stop restarting.   Thanks for reading all of this.

Dear DSGWubsy

Welcome in Lenovo community

For battery issue please let us know what is the installed windows on your machine so that we can sent you the latest update of Lenovo Power Manager .to make battery gauge reset .

As for CD-ROM issue , Please go to the device manager to uninstall the CD-ROM Device and then restart the machine to check the issue if solved or not

Hello Everyone, A few weeks ago I broke the screen on my T61P 6460-8VU, WUXGA 1920x1200.  At the time, the A/C, Battery/Charging and HDD Activity lights on the LCD Inverter board all stopped working -- however, the WiFi indicator works just fine. I have swapped out the LCD panel, the screen addresses fine but the backlight does not work. So, next, I put in a new inverter board.  The screen still addresses fine, but the backlight on the screen is still out.  And even on this new inverter board, the only activity light working is the WiFi. I don't have an easy way to check if the inverter is putting out current for the backlight, nor do I have an independent supply to check the backlight on the new screen.  However, I doubt that the backlight is out on the new screen.  It seems that the problem must be other than in the LCD or the inverter. Otherwise, the computer works just fine using an external screen -- however, those are a little cumbersome to carry about on the train :-). Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin

ASUS G75VW-DS71 LapTop, 64 bit OS, Win7
I noted posts as long ago as 2002 re same issue. Here it is...
My tray battery readout says "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I bought a new battery, and it showed "100% available (plugged in, charging)". For about 2 days.
Then it showed "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I thought 'faulty battery', and exchanged it again.
While waiting I placed the original battery into the laptop, and it showed "96% available (plugged in, and charging)". After 2 days it returned to "96% available (plugged in, not charging)".
The new replacement battery arrived. It showed 100% available, charging for 2-3 days, then reverted to 97%, not charging.
Oh... once it gets to the "not charging" point, the laptop battery light flashes orange continually.
Is this a problem? Or, should I just ignore it? I like things to work 'right', so any input would be welcome.
Thanks.

Answer:Battery charging / not charging

Can you run it on the battery or is it left plugged in all the time?
I have a lenovo laptop at work that is left plugged in most of the time, always shows 97%, but does work if I unplug the charger.

Today, I noticed my laptop kept shutting itself down every time it was accidentally unplugged. Then, I looked at the battery and it's at 6% battery life and says "Plugged in, not charging".  I shut down the computer and let it charge for a few hours while we went to dinner, it did not charge at all (in fact, it went down, it was 7% before I left the house).  Still automatically shuts off if I unplug.   I've tried the battery test but the computer won't even turn itself on since the battery is so low so that is out of the question.
