winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified error code:0xc0000428

Question: winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified error code:0xc0000428

I want to dual boot windows 7 and windows 10.

I have windows 7 installed on my C drive. (disk manage image attached)

Win 10 (D drive) where I want to install windows 10.

IN installation process:
"Getting files ready for installation" completes about 25% and then it reboots and shows the error.

http://www.tenforums.com/attachments...windows_10.jpg
In boot option I have
1) Windows setup
2) Windows 7

When I click on option 1(setup), it shows the error and setup cannot from that point progress.

I have no problem booting and running windows 7(option 2).

Preferred Solution: winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified error code:0xc0000428

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified error code:0xc0000428

Hmm, maybe the logical partition causes a problem. (You can install on a logical as long as boot files are on primary as far as I know but who knows ).

Is the iso in good shape? Any memory issues?

I've installed Win 7 on my Laptop. But when I launch (without booting from Bootable USB), it gives me an error:
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

The problem is when I boot from my Bootable USB it acts normal. Like nothing is wrong. It's just normal Windows 7 like I'm used to.

I searched on other topics but it seems that everyone issue is fixed by using the bootrec using the bootable DVD. Although I can't access that since I'm using an USB AND when I boot using my USB it's acting normal.

Answer:error 0xc0000428 winload.exe cannot be verified

Opps, there is no Disk Mgmnt screen shot attached and .. the screen shot you did attach does not show an error, only the install percent complete. These things happen.

Since you're just beginning, it might be more expedient to start over.
See: Windows 10 - Dual Boot with Windows 7 or Windows 8 - Windows 10 Forums

I would delete the D: partition, leaving it raw/unallocated, and let Windows manage it during the install.
Be careful - only the D partition.

The tutorial should guide you all the way through. Read it and ask questions before you begin - it's easier to answer a question than to fix something or start over

Hi There,

I cloned my smaller SSD to my larger SSD I just purchased so I can relieve my space issue. The problem is that during the clone, I replaced my /boot/ and attempting to boot from the new drive gives me Winload.exe has a digital signature that cannot be verified

I have tried all typical startup repairs, fixing MBR, editing the BCD directly and adding a Windows 7 record on this drive, no luck.

The original drive has since been replaced with Win10 and I cannot re-clone.

I am thinking that the primary issue is that by copying the /boot/ section of my original drive, I replaced winload.exe and the fingerprint/'digital signature' does not match the new SSD, but the old.

Therefore, is there a way to generate a new winload.exe using the signature from this bigger drive?

Other than that, I'm thinking of installing Win7 again on the second half of my new SSD and taking the Winload.exe that is created there and copying that back to my cloned partition, would that work?

Really dying to get back into Win7, and doing a fresh install is not an option for me as I really need the Windows configuration and installed programs to work.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Answer:Cloned OS --> Winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Sounds like you upgraded the install to win-10 and are trying to use the same upgraded install
That is not exactly legal and is in violation of the free upgrade agreement

A more reliable method would of been to use a system image and restore the image to the new ssd.
Still not legal to use both though.

When I go to Windows 8 from my Windows 7 boot loader it doesn't boot it just goes to winload.exe signature could not be verified.

As you can see from the video Windows 8 DOESN'T boot but Windows XP and 7 does boot fine (didn't show Windows 7 bcs I didn't want to make the video long)

Answer:Windows 8 winload.exe digital signature not verified

I got it working by somehow setting windows 8 as an Active Partition and re configuring the MBR or bcd or something like that.

So, when I started my laptop this morning I got the error:

"A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged....... error 0xc0000428."

I hit 'Enter' and it takes me to the screen to select an OS and the only one available is Windows 7 Home Premium. I can either hit F8 to supposedly select advanced options or enter to boot Windows 7. There are NO tools listed or boot options listed like there normally is. I'm just able to hit 'enter' or F8 and both of them take me back to that orignal error screen. Basically, I'm stuck in a loop between those two.

I tried my Windows 7 recovery CD but it still just takes me to these two screens and I can't get out of it.

I have searched other forums and threads and there is help for this issue, but everyone is able to use their recovery CD and I cannot.

Answer:winload.exe digital signature not verified & boot manager loop

Boot from Windows 7 recovery CD. Then select "command prompt". Where is bootmgr file?

attrib c:\bootmgr
attrib d:\bootmgr
attrib e:\bootmgr

Is it on C,D or E? Assume on E

Code:

attrib -s -h e:\bootmgr
del e:\bootmgr
Now perform a "startup repair"

Hello all! I got this message after installing Windows 7 on a separate hard drive to dual-boot 2 instances of Windows 7:

Answer:0xc0000428 Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

If you want to install windows in two different HDDs, remove one and install on the other one.

Same for Startup repair. If you want to startup repair on one, remove the other HDD and run startup repair.

Otherwise, there is a fair chance that the bootloader will be messed up.

Now what you should do.

Remove the Seagate HDD. Boot into Seageat one. What do you find there? The WD one is not booting up? Follow it:

When the Original one is fixed, let us know. We will concentrate on the other installation.

I've been trying at it for a couple days now but nothing seems to be working!

My friend is trying to install Windows 8 pro 64bit over his Windows 7 32bit. I know you can't 'upgrade' so we went with the custom/clean install. We backed up any files he needed and used the Windows USB boot tool and loaded the iso file into a bootable usb. Went through the install process and about 10mins in, the PC restarts itself.

I then get an error saying...

Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired.
The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified.
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000428

It then gives you some options at the bottom to choose another OS or startup settings, but choosing those options just flickers the screen and does nothing. I've tried reinstalling and the same thing occurs. I've also tried other methods such as copying the bootmgr file from the USB onto the boot drive to replace the older bootmgr, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas??? I'm not sure I can get back it back W7 since everything on the HD is already wiped (don't care about the data obviously, just want to get W8 to work...)

Answer:0xc0000428 winload.exe error

If you're getting that error, it would indicate your initial ISO used to create the USB was/is corrupt and not an actual good copy, or the file copy to USB failed at some point (if you're sure the Win8 ISO that you downloaded from Microsoft has the same MD5 sum and CRC hash as the file on Microsoft's servers).

I recently installed another Windows to my computer.
It works and boot, but the older Windows can't boot and gives an error of

"\Windows\System32\winload.exe" cannot be trusted because of its digital signature.

It tells me to go to F8, but when I press F8, it goes back to error screen of winload.exe.

I tried start up repair options with both disks (I have two disks in the computer), but start up repair was just messing up the boot. After several times of repairs, I came back to the boot screen, can boot to the new.

Is there any way that I can solve this?

Thanks.

However F8 doesn't work, just back to the boot menu. I tried repairing by w8 OS disc (automatically and with few commands which i found), but that just recover vista - on w8 still shows the same. I tried also by adding entry with visualbcd, but it still shows this problem.

I need some help with a Windows 7 (x64) system where bluetooth and usb devices have suddenly stopped working. When I go into device manager I see that my Intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller and my Intel Wireless Bluetooth show exclamations
on them. They both report that "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device".

This machine has been working fine for a while but suddenly stopped working correctly earlier this week.  So far I have uninstalled recently installed MS patches. I installed the most current version of the drivers from Intel for these devices.
I've also ran sigcheck against both drivers and confirmed that they are signed.

As a work around, I use F8 and boot with driver signing verification turned off but that is certainly not ideal as I have to remember to do so every time the computer is restarted. Anyone have suggestions for a permanent fix?

Somehow Windows installed Windows Boot Manager after I altered my "boot from devices" order in my bios.

The two options displayed in Boot Manager are:
-Windows Setup
-Windows 8

-when I choose Windows Setup, I get a screen filled with three error messages:
\windows.~bt\windows\system32\winload.efi Status 0xC0000428 The digital signature for this file could not be verified

How can I get rid of the "Windows Setup" ~option~ in Windows Boot Manager?

I want to keep Windows Boot Manager, BTW, because I plan to install dual-boot Win7 later.

Used a Win8 recovery disk and tried the following commands in the Command Prompt option:

bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildBCD

...with no changes/help resulting.

Hello forums:

Last night I shut my computer down just fine and woke up today to have to deal with this error.

I first had an issue with my RAM, but removing all but one, disconnecting PSU and working that method eventually got my computer back to shape.

Except for this brick wall:

I boot just fine, and as I am going to load, I get the error posdted in the title and with suggestions of using windows repair disc or move on and continue ignoring the error.

Before anything of course, I used the windows 7 disc to repair my errors, (I had an error or two) but, none of those seemed to be related to my current problem because after restarting i was later directed to that screen again.

So I reverted to using the only other solution, continuing while ignoring the error.
Thinking it would work, I was wrong. I get an option to choose the Operating system and it shows Vista (I use Win7) and even then, It re-loops me back to that error.

I have been working ever since the release of windows 7 just fine, this is just happening now.
Bare in mind I have searched other threads but none seem to really help my problem, I cannot even go into my desktop or beyond that screen. I am posting this from another computer.

Sorry for the Wall of text, I hope someone can really help me solve this problem

Much gratitude, Jona

Hi,

This is my first post on these forums, so please excuse me if anything is wrong.

Details of the problem: I have a Sony VAIO laptop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I recently downloaded the same version from digital river that has SP1 included and installed it on my laptop. I installed the drivers that I had downloaded from sony's esupport site which went fine. After I rebooted and tried to install the rest of the drivers, I started getting the Code 52 error: Windows cannot verify the signature of this driver. I've seen that every driver can be installed immediately after the system has been booted the first time (after a clean install). Once rebooted, it starts giving the code 52 error. I can't install my iPhone drivers (through iTunes) or PS3 utilities because of this. I'm wondering what changes during the first reboot. I must also say that these very same drivers were used on the previous build of Win 7 HP that I was using except that it did not have SP1 integrated.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I know that the digital signature check can be disabled using bcdedit.exe but I want Windows 7 to work the way it should: it should stop me from using unsigned drivers while installing signed drivers correctly. Does any one have any clue to what's going on with my Win7 on my laptop?

Answer:Driver Digital Signature error when using signed drivers (Code 52)

Hi ajayav, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Boot into Advanced Boot Options and disable driver signing checking.

The Advanced Boot Options screen lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting modes. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.

Disabling driver signature enforcement has helped a lot of users in fixing the issue.

You may also delete the USB "Upper Filter" & "Lower Filter" Entry and check if that helps.

I restarted my PC the other day (Dell XPS 8300) and then when it got the the Win7 login screen (the one where user profiles/pictures should be listed) a weird error message in wingdings font appeared. Eventually I learned to use a install/repair disc to use bcedit and bootrec from command line. Oddly, it seemed that my OS drive letter had changed from C: to E: . After a lot of research I removed a secondary hard disc I installed. The drive letter is now right, and the partition size seems right.

My problem now is when windows starts I get an error saying that winload.exe cannot be verified. The error code is 0xc0000428. I've tried bootrec /fixmbr, /scanos, rebuildbcd/, /fixboot, with no luck. Same with start-up repair I understand that some people have been able to find a working winload replacement in /windows/system32 (sometimes called winload~1) but I don't seem to have luck.

Any suggestions, folks?

By the way. An odd thing - I don't think that my Dell came with an install disc (nice work Dell!) but I borrowed a Home Premium repair disk. It doesn't let me open my win7 installation ("wrong version"). However a Vista install disc does recognize it. I can still get to the command prompt in both though.

hello mates, my first post here.

ok, let's start.

After a power loss, my computer restarted and i get the error on windows 7.

FILE \windows\system32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc0000428

info: windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

first thing i did is , put the Seven dvd , try to repair. (not solved)
2nd? easy bcd and fix the boot. (not solved)
3rd? Load windows XP on the boot screen , go to google , and then i find this.

problem dualboot vista and 7 winload.exe error

this guy has the same problem as me , but he's with windows Vista and seven.

i've looked at the replies and i find this.

"In Vista, open an elevated command prompt, Type( or copy and paste these if you like).

cd /d f:\windows\system32

then press enter

bcdboot f:\windows /s c:

then press enter.

Close command prompt.

Restart the pc. "

ok , lets do it on windows xp , just change the partition letters F ( seven ) to c ( seven ) and c: (vista) to h: (XP)

but , when i finish the prompt thing , i get the error.

bcdboot.exe is not a valid win32 bla bla bla , the well known compatibility error.

and now is the question , how do i fix this problem , without formating the system?

thanks!

ps: my seven partition is C:
and my XP partition is H:

Answer:Winload.exe Status: 0xc0000428 dualboot XP

ok , i will try it.

I have already posted here long back about being unable to install windows 7,i didn't find a solution. But recently i installed windows 7 and miraculously i was able to install it with minor issues.

As of now i have windows 7 Ultimate edition and Windows Vista Business installed in two hard disks. Windows Vista is installed in a Maxtor HD and Windows 7 in a Seagate HD.

When booting just before the OS choices menu screen a message appears:

Windows Boot Manager

A recent hardware and software change might have installed a file incorrectly...................................

Status:0xc0000428

Info:Windows cannot verify the driver signature for this file

Enter=Continue Esc=Exit

Whether i press enter or esc it doesn't matter since the computer restarts and this error msg will pop up three or four times and finally the OS choices screen shows up in which where i have to press F8 in both Windows 7 and Vista and select disable driver signature enforcement in order for me to go inside the OS.

When i press F8 another error msg pops up three or four times before the advanced boot options screen is showed, that error msg is:

Windows Boot Manager

A recent hardware and software change might have installed a file incorrectly...................................

Hey guys,
I was using my laptop and we had a power failure in the area, my laptop battery was unplugged (it is not working). And when the electricity came back whenever I start my laptop I come into a blue screen with an error message. Your PC needs to be repaired. Also it shows an error code: 0xc0000428.

I tried to repair it with windows 8 cd but nothing happens when I try to boot to windows 8
Tried to install ubuntu and 7 from the usb and it doesn't do anything when I select the usb in the boot screen...
I unplugged the harddisk and plugged it in to another laptop, wiped the harddisk using (winPE cd) copied the image and applied it using the imagex tool, installed the bcdboot binaries and everything was successful!
I plugged the harddisk back in my laptop and now whenever I start my computer I get this error "the file possibly corrupt. the file header checksum not match the computed checksum"
I would be pleased if you can help me. Thank you

I used Disk Manager to delete a few primary volumes that I had made for ubuntu. However, I noted that there were two Disks. My main anda smaller one which didn't show up anywhere else.I didn't know what it was for, about 20 gigs. After I deleted the partition/volume, I could check the properties and saw that it was an SSD and I read was used cashing ergo hybrid storage. When I restarted the computer in was on an infinite loop upon loading.A black screen, with the dots rolling in the lower half of the screen.I managed to use alt + F10 to get to windows secure/recovery mode. From there I tried various methods of recovery that didn't work. Somehow I managed to log on using continue to windows. Everything seemed to work fine. The computer updated and I restarted the computer. I couldn't log in at all now.?Windows boot manager has been blocked by the current security policy?.I managed to get around that. Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop which has recently started acting up. When I try to boot, it goes into Automatic Repair mode and shows a blue screen with the error code 0xc0000428. The message given is

The OS couldn't be loaded because the digital signature of a file couldn't be verified. Said file is a driver by the name of amdkmpfd.sys

It's asking for recovery tools like disc or USB. Below this, there is an option to show boot options like safe mode and disable driver signature enforcement. I've tried all of these options but it still brings up this blue screen. I can't do anything other than look at this blue screen or access BIOS.

One more observation, after some inactivity, the laptop automatically shuts off. This didn't happen before the problem.

What to do now? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

For collage i bought a mac to use for school work. The program my coding class uses is only available on window so the professor recommended dual booting my mac instead of buying a whole new computer. I bought the windows 7 disk and every thing went smoothly until i got the error code 0xc0000428 after the computer restarted into windows mode. I have tried everything i can think of to fix this and doesn't seem to work. I bought the windows 7 disk through Microsoft so i know it is a valid disk.

Well first of all I started up my PC and it immediately jumped into Startup Repair maybe cause I didn't shut it down properly. It went through the repair and several times. By then I knew something was wrong, I checked the Diagnostics and see what Startup Repair had actually done. It turns out it could not fix an error with the OS Loader.

It came up with two error code (0x2) and (0x490).

I followed the following instructions:
1. bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
2. C:
3. cd Boot
4. attrib bcd -s -h -r
5. ren C:\Boot\BCD BCD.old
6. bootrec /RebuildBCD

I also tried using /FixMBR and /FixBoot

However none of these worked and my I tried booting up it came up with the same problem. I went back into the Windows 7 DVD and ran Startup Repair again. It said it was completed successfully but it said also if it doesn't boot then there's something wrong.

Which leads to my new error screen that never goes away everytime I switch on the PC. The error message is as follows:

A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.
If you have a Windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your computer. Click "Repair You Computer," and then choose a recovery tool.

Hi All, I've been struggling for about a month.  Since I reinstalled Windows 10 Home (1067) (on a new SSD) the 100-15IBY Camera and High Definition Audio Driver has failed with Code 52 unable to verify digital signature. Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52) I've tried everything... permissions on files, bcedit command lines, downloading newer drivers from Realtek, reinstalling windows again with Legacy and then UEFI modes... disabling Secure Boot, reinstalling again with Secure Boot in "Setup - Disabled" mode... The only way to get the audio and camera to operate is to reboot in safe mode and disable the Driver Signature Enforcement - that only works for a single boot.  So I know the drivers are correct and the devices work... it's a trust issue with the drivers. The High Definition Audio one is specifically a Microsoft Driver... why wouldn't that be trusted!? Please anyone?  It must be a common problem - has anyone solved it? Tony

Hello. I am running on Windows 7 64bit home premium. My computer has been really weird lately. I have tried recovering my computer to an earlier time but it constantly failed. Explorer.exe will fail on me, and I have tried the src thing using run but it will open and immediately close on me. I didn't have a recovery disk so I just recently bought one. I "think" I made the recovery disk correctly. When I put the cd in, I got an error that the file winload.exe with the error code 0xc0000001 saying the file may be missing or may be corrupt. I am not very experienced with computers so i hope you guys can help me the best way you can. Thank you so much for reading.

I have posted a thread about this awhile ago but didn't receive help. As of right NOW, explorer.exe keeps failing on me when I log into my account and when press the system restore option, it freezes and starts explorer.exe and a pop up about my administration failing.

I've installed Win7 x32 on my sister's dell optiplex gx280 a few weeks back and has been running great until recently. The computer reboots after only a few minutes onto windows, and brings me to the boot manager saying that windows doesn't recognize the driver signature of this file, that a recent change if software of hardware or malicious program from an unknown source might have caused this, but doesn't say anything about which file was corrupted, Status: 0xc0000428.

I either have the option to press escape or enter, and when i press enter, it brings me to the same boot manager. I can't seem to be able to boot from any cd either, have tried that win 7 cd from my own computer and it boots just fine. Once again, it brings me to the same boot manager after attempting to boot from the cd.

Strangely, it did manage to give me the boot menu a few times, so I went into safe mode and did a system restore, but that didn't work either. And in the few rare chances that it give me the option to be able to go in last known good windows settings, it just reboots after a few minutes into windows and just takes me back to that boot manager error. and just sticks to that boot manager when pressing enter.

After a while of screwing around, I couldn't do anything anymore, as the comp didn't recognize the hard disk first, then after a while it didn't recognize the CD-ROM either. I did check in the bios, it say that the hard disk and the cd-rom were there, but "are not present". I... Read more

Your unit may be infected or something is going on with the OS. You can try restoring to factory condition through the NOVO button. OR try searching for winload.efi error and try the suggestions even if some of them does'nt have the same error code. Or you can also take a look at this.

I uninstalled an HP scanner from my media center running Windows XP. I went through and deleted everything I could find that had to do with the scanner. Now I still get a pop up message box upon initial boot that says "No Digital Signature" and the title on the box is HP Precision Scan LT Setup. The program is deleted and I can find nothing when I search. I can close the box but it reappears within a short time. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm new to this forum. Excuse me if this was posted before. I recently upgraded from Vista x32 to 7 x64. I'm getting the error stating, windows can't verify the digital signature for this file, winload.exe. status 0xc0000428. The computer will not boot unless I have the windows disk in the cd drive. THen, everything is ok. I tried just about everything that I found but, the same old thing. My question is, why does it boot to windows with the disk installed whereas the disk has the same files that were installed on my hard drive? I never had this issue with Vista. I even re installed win7 to see if that made a difference but it didn't. I tried bcdedit, bootrec, sfc /scannow, disable integrity checks, starting in safe mode, etc. If I keep the windows disk out, when booting, and after getting the error screen, it asks if I want to boot to Vista, which I don't even have. I deleted the windows.old folder. I have all the updates installed. Could this be a bug in windows 7 or is there something I'm missing. I'm willing to try anything. Thanks

I made a recovery disc and leave it in drive B so I can start windows. Any thoughts here?

Hi, You're welcome. This happens because your machine shipped with 8.1, so will have no specific drivers for 8 When you are on the page displaying 'No software or drivers are available for this product with the selected operating system. Please make a different selection', do you see an Edit option to the right - if you do, click this and select Windows 8.1 as the OS - most of the drivers should work for 8.  As long as you have install the LAN or WLAN driver, just go through the Win 8 updates until the 8.1 upgrade is offered, apply this and then install  the rest of the drivers. Regards, DP-K

Hello!

Following a guide in another forum, I was able in the past to install Windows 8 in an old Pentium 4 system without NX/PAE support. I'm not going to go into details here, but the process involved extracting the installation files from install.wim to a hard disk and patch certain files to bypass compliance check. One of them is ntoskrnl.exe. I was wondering if this is possible with Windows 10. So I followed the guide and managed to install Windows 10 to a VMWare virtual machine (I didn't have a real machine available). Yes, Windows 10 work, so at least in theory it should also work on a real machine. The problem is that in every startup I get a BSOD that ntoskrln.exe digital dignature cannot be verified or similar. I already tried to enable test mode and ignore signatures, as well as disable Windows Defender, but the problem persists! In order to load Windows I have each time to press F8 to get into advanced startup options and then select 7 to ignore driver signing. How can I disable system file check at startup so I don't get this message? Any ideas? Before you rush to say "why bother", I answer "for the challenge, because I can".

Today my computer crashed and refused to boot back up. I have windows 7 home premium 64bit. I bought it from Newegg and my warranty is now expired. It came with an OEM version of windows and it did NOT come with any repair/recovery disks. When it attempted to automatically repair itself it failed and it said that the CI.dll was corrupt. I searched for solution and found none that would work, from antivirus programs to infinite loops. I searched for hours and found this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...al-file-4.html I followed the instructions on the last page, using Puppy Linux on a disk to boot up and replace the CI.dll with the file in the link. I then did the following as instructed

1) Type in: bootrec.exe /fixmbr
2) Then type in: del C:\boot\bcd
3) Then type in: bootrec.exe/rebuildbcd

The commands went in fine and I was prompted by the last one on whether or not to add the installation to boot. I said yes. (Perhaps a mistake?) The commands were all entered smoothly and I received no error messages. I restarted my computer and received the error code 0xc0000428 refering to the C:\Windows\system32\winload.exe it said the the signature could not be verified. Now I can NOT even get to the repair page, CMD, or Safe mode. It will not load at all, and the screen will jump back and forth between the error page and the Boot Manager page, the latter of which only has one option "windows 7 home premium."

Has anyone encountered this error shown in the subject line? My computer will start running very slowly and so I do a normal shutdown and then try a reboot of the machine.  During reboot I get some kind of "Lenovo Automatic Repair" message going on.  It ends up with the ubiquitous blue screen of death with the "missing or corrupt winload.efi, error code 0xc0000185" error. This has happened numermous times in the last two months.  Here's how I've managed to get it running:  I disconnect all cables and the laptop battery and let the laptop sit for an hour or so.  I then reboot with ethernet cable only plugged in.  While rebooting, I'll press the F8 key a few times.  One of two things happens 1)  the "Lenovo Automatic Repair" message comes on again, then the same error code.  2)  I'll get a screen that allows me to access the safe mode.  At that point I just do a normal shutdown.  I start the computer up again and it starts up normally and the problem is fixed........................ until the next time this happens which is usually weeks later. All thoughts suggestions are appreciated! Rick

Answer:missing or corrupt winload.efi, error code 0xc0000185 on G580 Windows 8.1 laptop

hi rick8864,
Thanks for Posting!

This error seems to show on some  users booting up normally and ended up booting into safemode to boot to normal mode again.

I suggest running an msconfig command an perform a clean boot.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
than enabling the background files ny one's or by twos to check which is causing it.

On some cases this could be a UEFI hardware check with the ODD causing it to fail.

I just upgraded my Sattelite L300 with the Toshiba Vista Home premium DVD"s (Dutch version).

Step1: Toshiba Upgrade DVD deleted all drivers as promised
Step2: Windows 7 Home premium Upgrade DVD installed without problems.

Step3: Toshiba upgrade DVD refuses to start witj following error (translated from Dutch):
Can't control the digital signature for this file.
A recent change in software or hardware has probably installed a file with a wrong or damaged digital signature...

Apart from some basic Windows programs (IE) I can't run, install, nor delete any other program anymore - always this error...
Other utilities (wifi for instance) just give the message that they have encountered an unknown error...

I tried to upgrade some drivers from the Toshiba website but not a singe downloaded file will execute... (all with the same digital signature error)

What now?

Edit:

I managed, I think, to install the Toshiba drivers in safe mode, but several programs still fail to run, install or even delete ...
all giving the signature error... (ccleaner, revo uninstaller, also all setup files downloaded after the 7 install)

Answer:Upgrade Win7 failure: digital signature control error on ALL applications

So apparently nobody can help me...

I found a solution to disable the digital signature check in Windows 7, but for that you need to open CMD as an administrator.
Guess what, even CMD refuses to open because it doesn't recognise the digital signature..

How do I switch this thing off before I throw my PC in the dustbin...

Question: Digital Signature.

How can we obtain digital signature for the existing application ? Is it neccessary for running it on Windows Vista? What is SignTool and where can I find it?

Answer:Digital Signature.

You'd have to ask the company who developed the application. I haven't needed a digital signature in Vista in quite a long while. Also, I believe that they must be able to be applied to different OS's - or the signature would be worthless.

Hey guys, I just got a copy of xp service pack 2 with the following digital signature
5.5.1005.0 (SRV03_QFE.031113-0918)

I'm running xp professional and the update was released today for us.

It's tempting to install this version, is this version the same as the one thats being released today (8/25/04)?

Note: I'm also on dialup so I would have to wait until school starts in 2 weeks to download the update.

Answer:Digital Signature Sp2

That is not a digital signature. Any software could be modified to possess that version string, even Gator.

The MD5 checksum of the file named WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe is 59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7Click to expand...

//edit: so MD5 that file and see if it matches -- if so, that's more than sufficient reassurance that your file is legit.

Does anyone know where I can find a digitally signed "ATI Integrated Digital Audio" driver for Vista x64 Business. The installed driver works, but only if I F8 at boot to disable signature enforcement, which is a pain whenever the system autoboots after an update. I have been living with the F8 approach since Vista was first released.

There is no information on the ATI (AMD) or HP support sites.

Driver details are as follows:

Driver Provider: ATI Technologies
Driver Date: 9/13/2006
Driver Version: 6.1.4242.1

The specific unsigned files are:
... atiwdma.sys
... LVUSBS64.sys

It is for an HP DV5000 x64

Thanks ...

Hello all

I have a gateway netbook and these do not have DVD/CD drives. I tried to do a system restore on it and now I get the following:

Quote:
A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.

if you have a windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your computer. Click "repair your computer" and then choose a recovery tool.

Otherwise, to start windows so you can investigate further, press the ENTER key to display the boot menu, press F8 for advanced Boot Options, and select last known good. If you understand why the digital signature cannot be verified and want to start windows without this file, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement.

FILE windowssystem32winload.exe

Status: 0xc0000428

info: windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

If I start the computer it jumps right to this. If I follow the instructions in the error it jumps back to the error screen. For example I hit Enter, I see the gateway logo and then it goes to the error again. I get no boot menu or other screen.

What can I do?

Answer:Error 0xc0000428 can not fix

Status: 0xc0000428 Windows cannot verify the digital signature of this file.

First try a Startup Repair.

If failed, go for a Repair Install.

All those you can do using the bootable USB flash drive. Either follow the part two of the tutorial Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, or get WinToFlash - Install Windows From USB - Download Page. You can get the appropriate windows version for your netbook from here.

Hi im having issues with booting up into vista.

Everytime it comes up with the error 0xc0000428 winload.exe.

Says the driver is not signed etc.

I cant press f8 as it only shows a menu that says windows vista. Nothing to disable

driver signing or ways to boot into anything. It just goes back and forth between those

screens.

Im guessing it might be a virus that did this as it was working fine last night.

Two web questions for you ladies and gents out there.

1. I want to include a couple of pdf files that open in the browser using the acrobat plug-in. Anyone know if this was broken in IE 6 I heard that they messed up a lot of plugins and wondered what the best way to do this is in html so that I include the largest majority of users out there.
2. I am creating a web-based form that used to be a pdf that applicants printed off and mailed in. Problem is they used to sign the application and mail it in. I know that there are digital signatures, but anyone that has tips and experience with something like this I'd love to hear how you managed to overcome this problem. Did you use digital signature technology or go with an alternative method?

Thanks for the help.

Answer:pdf in window and digital signature

Hi.

AFAIK the plugin for the pdf is still buggy in IE6.0. I'd be interested to hear otherwise. I've advise my clients NOT to update at this time.

As for the digital signatures.....I have one called on-sign that I use in conjunction with my PDA. However, to use it with Acrobat I need to do some fancy cut & paste from another app.

The problem with digital signatures is I'm not sure how they stand-up in court. For legal type stuff I still use the old pen & ink method. But for correspondence I don't have any problem plugging in my digital. I think you will have to check the laws in your area about such things.

Do you have to have the digital signature of your recipient to be able to successfully send them an encrypted message? Or, do you have to have that recipient saved in your 'contacts' list?

I have read the section on encryption and digital signatures in the 'Step by Step' book and it doesn't mention either of these needs. But, I have had several people tell me that I need both in order for them to open an encrypted message. I'm so confused now that I'm ready to go back to snail mail and interoffice envelopes!

I don't use digital signitures, but I'm sure you each need each others to encrypt. Sorry I can't help more (probably).

I hope someone can help me - or refer me somewhere for the problem I'm having this weekend. My problem is w/QuickBooks Pro 2006 version. QB Technical support isn't available until Monday morning, and I need help now. (My problem started on Friday A.M.)

I have a Compaq Presario 6350 computer, XP sp2, I use AVG and Ad-Aware. I have lots of memory and I'm still on dial up.

Here's my story: I was having problems w/other issues on my computer a few days ago. A friend of mine (he's a professional tech) determined I needed to do a reinstall and data restore. He did back everything up to disk.

I thought everything was working perfectly and he'd really helped me out, BUT - when I tried to do payroll in QB, a message popped up saying I had to do payroll update first. It appeared to be working fine, but it was taking forever, so I knew something was wrong. Then, I got the dreaded message -- Error 15222. "The payroll update did not complete successfully. QuickBooks could not verify the digital signature within the update file."

Can someone tell me where to go in my computer - so I can get the setting back like it was. I didn't have the problem before, so I feel like a setting has been changed. Or - my friend maybe did not re-install a needed file. If I knew which file is needed, I could access it from the backup disk he made for me.

Hello,
I was looking at my conhost.exe file (located C:\Windows\System32 , Size 330 KB, 332 KB on disk) and grew concerned because:
Description: conhost.exe (and I've seen other folks online have description of Console Window Host)
Created: Thursday, September 12, .....
Modified: Thursday, August 01, 2013, ..... (I'm positive I didn't modify this file but maybe security patch?... hopefully)
Accessed: Thursday, September 12, .... (same date/time created)
AND under Security, the following had read and execute privileges: SYSTEM, TrustedInstaller, Administrators, Users (I was mainly concerned with the Users one.) I'm pretty sure the TrustedInstaller (I'm assuming Microsoft) had ownership privileges before
I switched it over to the specific Administrator account I use (the only one).
AND (the main reason I am asking) in conhost.exe Properties: Details it says
Type  Application
Size  330 KB
Date modified 8/1/2013 8:09 PM
Everything else is blank. I thought there should be a copyright or digital signature or something. I know this file has to do with command prompts and am concerned that it has been altered from its original to say allow a command prompt window to be hidden.
Please let me know if I'm just paranoid and this is what conhost.exe is supposed to look like, or if I should be concerned.

Answer:conhost.exe digital signature

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, conhost.exe is the new host process for console windows. Previously those were handled by csrss.exe which is the ?Client Server Runtime Process?, a process running with system-level privileges. The conhost.exe process sitting in
the middle between CSRSS and cmd.exe allows Windows 7 to fix both of the problems in previous versions of Windows?not only do the scrollbars draw correctly, but you can actually drag and drop a file from Explorer straight into the command prompt.

I would suggest you to see the following link for more information.

Hello!
Can you tell me what is "Programs digital signature"? According to my knowledge some security software categorize programs trustworthiness using program digital signature.
How do program developer get digital signature?
Why some programs not have digital signature?

Answer:What is Program Digital Signature?

To #1 I'll clip you what Microsoft has to say about that:

Quote:
A digital signature is an electronic security mark that can be added to files. It allows you to verify the publisher of a file and helps verify that the file has not changed since it was digitally signed.
If the file doesn't have a valid digital signature, there's no way for you to be sure that the file is actually from the source it claims to be from, or that it has not been tampered with (possibly by a virus) since it was published. It's safer to avoid opening the file unless you know for certain who created it and whether the contents are safe to open.
Even a valid digital signature doesn't verify that the contents of the file are harmless. You must decide if you should trust the contents of the file based on the identity of the publisher and where you are downloading the file from.

What cracks me up about that statement: They basically say "Even if we digitally sign the file, you can't be sure if it's authentic" Doesn't that statement contradict the sense and purpose of the whole process ???

As for #2 as a dev you can submit your file to Microsoft to obtain said digital sign

As for #3 because it costs money and it takes time for your files to be processed. Sometimes the cost of the driver or program doesn't cover the licensing fees ...that together with Microsoft's statement, that even a signed file could be bogus might influence decisions not ha... Read more

We have to use PKI/digital sigs for one of our main clients. We send attachments and emails encrypted because they include patient name, partial social security numbers and health information about the patient.

My PKI works fine, I have been having employees get them and they work fine. My boss has trouble with his. I can send and receive from him. He is using Outlook 2003. When he gets a certificate from a client and adds it to his outlook contacts, it shows up as being his certificate and not their certificate.

We have worked and worked on this and can't figure it out. We are in seperate offices, but I am going to try to get to his office this weekend to see if I can figure it out. We got the certificates from Versign and they don't provide any support. We have read all the help pages, emailed and not gotten any help back from them.

Any ideas on what could be wrong. I am running out of things to check.

Thanks.

Nancy

I had some problems with my video care, an ATI All In Wonder Radeon, so ATI told me to do a few things, which now has screwed up my display drivers. I have tried to re-install the video card, but I get the Digital Signature Notification error. It says that the driver may not have been tested by Microsoft, and wont be installed. I have tried to change the settings to warn, but it wont let me click the advanced tab, it has been greyed out. I have tried to download the drivers from the ATI web site, but they wont install properly. Is there any way to change the warn vs block settings in Windows ME?? thanks in advance kirk

Answer:Digital signature problems

Just a though

Are you logged on with username and password rather than guest or default.

Have you tried windows updated, it may offer you a video driver to temporarily correct the problem

Had trouble like that along time ago, ended up using windows update at first, finally got the advanced to warn rather than block.
