Latest update causing applications to remain 'always on top'

Question: Latest update causing applications to remain 'always on top'

As of these last few days, I've been noticing that some applications appear to be stuck in 'always on top' mode for some weird reason. For example, I know applications like Windows Task Manager has an "Always on top" feature, but this seems to be happening with almost every other application at random.

Even Google Chrome is remaining on top for some reason, and I cannot even get to Windows Explorer unless I shift + win + arrow key (to move it to another monitor) or unless I minimize Google Chrome.

Has anyone been experiencing this lately or have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Preferred Solution: Latest update causing applications to remain 'always on top'

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently updated the BIOS on my z30c pt263e as per advice from the toshiba update application installed on my PC.

Since that update, my LAN (wireless) and bluetooth have been behaving abnormally, including:
Connecting to various wireless networks, but not being able to access the internet. In order to do so, I have to do a wireless troubleshoot in windows, which resets the wifi adapter, then it works againIf I switch between networks (say a wireless, to a hotspot wireless on my phone) it does the same thing. Will connect to the network, but not access the internet, necessitating the same resetBluetooth has started to work abnormally at the same time, including saying my bluetooth keyboard is paired, but it won't recognise any input from my keyboard.

I've since downloaded and reinstalled both the LAN and Bluetooth drivers from the Toshiba website. This has NOT fixed the problem.

If toshiba is not aware or not going to do anything about this, can someone please post a link to the previous BIOS version (which isn't available when I search on the EU support site) so I can at least verify if it was the BIOS update causing the problem

Answer:Portege Z30-C Latest BIOS update causing LAN and BT problem

Could anyone post the immediate prior BIOS for z30c PT263E. The one recently released (24 January) seems to have resulted in me having new Wireless networking, and bluetooth problems.

Latest MS Update Causing Black Screen of Death

There are reports that the latest round of security patches from Microsoft are causing a black screen of death for some people. Thankfully the problem only seems to affect Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 users running certain security programs. A third party fix is available to anyone experiencing this issue.

Microsoft apparently made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), a list of permissions for a logged-on user. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features such as a sidebar. However, the latest patches appear to make some changes to those registry keys. The effect is that some installed applications aren't aware of the changes and don't run properly, causing a black screen.

Answer:Latest MS Update Causing Black Screen of Death

Microsoft Updates NOT Causing Black Screen of Death

Microsoft has released a statement regarding the "black screen of death" reports posted earlier saying that those claims are inaccurate and that none of the problems are caused by its security updates.

"Microsoft has investigated reports that its November security updates made changes to permissions in the registry that that are resulting in system issues for some customers," Microsoft security response communications lead Christopher Budd said in a statement. "The company has found those reports to be inaccurate and our comprehensive investigation has shown that none of the recently released updates are related to the behavior described in the reports."

Hi, I've got a T61, 7662-CTO, running Windows XP sp3. I recently ran the Thinkvantage system update, which attempted to update some of the thinkvantage drivers, including the power scheme manager. After the download, Window's Data Execution Prevention started to interfere with the install.  I downloaded the updated driver manually, turned off DEP, and installed manually. Since then, all my ThinkVantage functionality has started to act up.- Power Schemes don't work- None of the Fn + F# keys seem to work, except Fn + F4- the blue thinkvantage button stopped workingIf I start the ThinkVantage programs from the start menu, then some of the programs work okay (but not power schemes) Am I the only one facing these issues?  Any advice would be helpful. -Q

Answer:Latest thinkvantage system update causing many problems...

After calling Warrany Support (woo hooooo), I found that the hotkeys driver needed to be reloaded.  That fixed the Fn+F# key issues, but my power manager is as messed up as it was (even after reinstalling the driver). As a matter of fact, the Power Manager issue persists only on my admin account.  My sibbling's account doesn't seem to have any problems with it.  The problem was that the power profiles were not being activated when selected, and some of the profiles were removed (like Power Source Optimized, Maximum Battery Life, etc...).

A recent windows update at the begining of march (07/03/2014) has resulted in the battery failing to charge, the charging/connected to mains icon in the system tray area to flicker then disappear. The battery would discharge until the power cord was removed then reattached. It would then momentarily charge then stop. Thankfully I created a system restore which removed the following possible culprits: KB2929961KB2930275KB2894853KB2913760KB2919394KB2919442KB2928680 Windows Action Centre advises the Lenovo Energy management software is no longer compatible once you install the updates. I reinstalled the updates at a later stage having followed the reccomended procedures: Unistall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery - Doesn't work - it reinstalls itself after each reboot. Disabling it didn't work either. Download the latest Energy Management Software - I am Using the latest version. 8.0.2.20 Uninstalling the updates restored the battery charging function. Can you investigate please?

Hi folks,
When windows 10 was first released I downloaded it and burned to DVD using the media creation tool from Microsoft.
As windows 10 has now had a major update, and I want to create a DVD with that update on it, without having to reinstall it later, as I have other partitions on my computer to update to 10 as well.
So my query is, does anyone know if I was to download windows 10 32 bit from Microsoft again (using the media creation tool from Microsoft) will it include the latest major update to 10?
Thanks for any help

Answer:Is windows 10 latest big update included in latest media creation tool

Microsoft has made available a download able iso for win 10 1511. If you don't see download link on win pc then try on some other device.. like an android phone or tablet. That's how I got it downloaded and had clean installed. Hope this helps.

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

Answer:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

I have updated my BIOS to the Precision 5510 1.2.19 BIOS January 23rd, 2017 update, but whenever I restart my computer it seemingly reverts back to the December 22nd, 2016 BIOS version. Am I reading the system information incorrectly?
I am investigating this because my battery is no longer charging. I replaced the input jack and it started working again, but after a few days it stopped. Then inexplicably it worked again, and now a few days later it no longer works. This most recent time was after I shut the computer down (instead of putting it to sleep) and am wondering if this possible reversion is the culprit.
Thanks!

Ok, this is my current setup:

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI
512MB x 2 Dual Channel Corsair Value Memory
160GB SATA 7200RPM Seagate "Barracuda" HDD
Chaintech 6600GT (500/1000)
AMD Athlon64 3000+ Socket 939 Winchester
Windows XP Pro w/ SP1a/SP2 installed and fully patched.

Okay, this is my first personal build ever, and Windows XP is giving me some issues.

The first time I formatted and installed Windows, everything ran fine and drivers installed smoothly. I started by installing the Forceware 70.78 Quadro drivers as someone suggested to me and ran the games I could run in OpenGL. They ran OK.

However, then I tried the Painkiller full game that came with my 6600GT. It ran incredibly smooth and framerates soared. However, after I try to exit the game, without any notification from Windows whatsoever, the screen goes blue for a split second as the entire system crashes and auto-reboots.

Being quite worried, I tried uninstalling various drivers with no luck. Since I had disabled System Restore, I was hasty to reformat (although probably not the best option).

This time, I chose the quick NTFS setup and started it up. This time, I installed the drivers one by one. Games still ran fine at either D3D or OpenGL at this point, and didn't crash. I installed the drivers that came on the disk for my 6600GT. Again, fine. Then, as I installed Razer Diamondback drivers that came with my Diamondback, things started crapping out on me. I uninstall the Razer dri... Read more

Crashes like that are almost always traceable to hardware, even if the exhibit the problem in software. It could be a driver issue though. Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?

You might want to run some memtest too. I shy away from any value type of RAM, though the Corsair is supposed to be OK if you aren't overclocking.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and so have also had to put up with all the latest updates. The problem is that after installing them, something happens to my screen resolution (all icons and text are enormous). I have already done two system restores to fix this, but after each one the updates are once again installed and so the situation reoccurs.
I should also add (since the two things are surely connected) that for a while now I've been getting messages regarding my video card drivers. I have checked with AMD, and my drivers are up to date. Yet yesterday and the day before I also got a Blue Screen of Death.
I've installed WhoCrashed, but this won't work since dumps are not enabled(or something similar!!).
I see that my laptop is ready to install the updates again...

"I have already done two system restores to fix this, but after each one the updates are once again installed and so the situation reoccurs."
Change the way your updates are installed - Windows Updates - under Important Updates change to Download Updates but let me choose whether to install them That way you have more control over them. (ie: I want what I want on my computer NOT what Microsoft thinks I should have)
If as you say System Restore fixes the problem then it is obvious that one or more of your updates is overwriting. Depending on how many updates there are, install one or two at a time - then restart each time and you should find the culprit.

Then see what Windows Updates wants to update. Right click the AMD drivers offered and select 'hide this update'. You should no longer be offered the GPU driver and the rest should install correctly.

Hello
My rig is quite old now but was completely stable under Windows 8.1 and until a couple of weeks ago, I'd got it stable under 10 too. In general, since upgrading to Win 10 Pro 64 bit, I've experienced a succession of stability problems, too many of which seem to relate to nVidia drivers. Sudden freeze up problems started happening again just recently to which there was no recourse except to hard restart.

My system has two nVidia GTX280 cards and a multi monitor setup. Issues with and the updating of nVidia drivers has been the cause of delight and despair in equal measure. It wasn't until version 341.85 (for my particular cards) came out that I finally got my system stable. Anyhow, recently there was an update release (version 341.95) that installed itself courtesy of the not very controllable Windows 10 updating regime. It came in with a load of other updates. Suddenly, my system was freezing up again, as in everything would suddenly stop (including the clock) but interestingly, any audio playing at the time continued. No black screen, BSOD, warnings or errors.

As I'd experienced so many issues with the nVidia drivers in the past, my instinctive reaction was to look there first. Sure enough, a thorough safe mode uninstall then re-installation of the previous version drivers and the problem was fixed ........ until the nVidia driver updated itself again via Windows update. Answer:nVidia latest version 341.95 causing freeze ups

It's possible to set Win 10 to not update drivers through Windows Update. (It's harder to block other updates, but you can block drivers.)

System control panel, Advanced system settings, Hardware tab, Device Installation Settings. The setting was clear in the original Win 10 release (10240), but Microsoft has obfuscated it in the latest version (10586).

When I shut down the other day (Win 7 ultimate 64bit), there were 30 updates to be applied. when I restarted my system yesterday morning, there was an error message about my hard disk eventually failing. Is there a possible relationship here? I have been trying to clone this hard disk (tried the backup\restore image copy and Seagate diskwizard), they have both failed. I have rebooted multiple times with no problems. Did computer\disks\properties\tools\fix clusters etc (does a report go somewhere), the system rebooted automatically after. Not sure if I am having a registry or hardware problem. I am wonderig if I should go back to a restore point.

Try restoring from a restore point and immediately run a hard drive scan using one of these tools: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

When saving a jpg image in Firefox, Firefox crashes and closes without warning.

When viewing a folder full of pictures in Windows Explorer, Explorer crashes and closes in about 10 seconds (it varies). This is even when viewing the files without thumbnails (Detailed list view).

I have removed Thumbs.db from this folder.
I have run chkdsk /F on all partitions in my computer. This folder that is causing the Explorer crash is on a FAT32 partition. chkdsk found no errors on the FAT32 partition, but fixed something in the NTFS partition.

Even though only one folder seems to be causing Explorer to crash, it seems that no matter where I save images in Firefox, Firefox still crashes.

I scanned for viruses a bit. I ran Free AVG on the entire computer. I also ran Trend Micro Housecall from the browser. No threats were found.
I am using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and all the latest updates on a Gateway MT3419 laptop.

Hi, I wasn't sure if this would be the right place to post this or not, I am sorry if it isnt.

So I have been having this problem for several months now. While playing video games online with ventrilo, or any other VOIP, randomly it would cause all of my playback audio to stop. I wont hear sounds from ventrilo, or the game, or anything. It also causes videos such as those from YouTube to play slowly and very choppy. It is very random, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes it only takes twenty minutes to go off, and sometimes it takes several hours. There is no indication that something is wrong, other than the lack of sound. My drivers are up to date and it is still registering the sounds, it just isn't playing them. It fixes itself on a reboot though, so it is just a little frustrating.

I have been unable to find out why this is happening. I am thinking it may have something to do with the headset I am using. It is fairly old and has a USB attachment I can plug the microphone and earphone plugs into, but the USB plug isn't working so I plugged the other two directly into my PC. Perhaps that is doing it? I am not really tech savvy so I could really use some help. Thanks in advance

Answer:Ventrilo causing loss of audio on all applications, fix on reboot.

If it's old it's possible the drivers are just outdated.
Try searching for new ones using google and the model information from the headset.
Barring that I have found this simple change to the power plan solves a lot of problems with older usb driven devices.
To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I am currently using a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s for about a year now and I have noticed something unusual with the System Update application. When I run the app, I stumble upon some updates that I choose to update - so far, there are a total of three updates (1 Critical Update and 2 Optional Updates). The Updates are for McAfee Firstboot Update, ThinkPad Video Features (NVIDIA N16S-GT) and Synaptics Ultranav Driver. I have installed the Critical Update numerous times, but that item is there every time I boot up the app again (with note that I nowadays use Windows Defender as my main Security app as opposed to McAfee which has already expired) together with the other two Optional Updates (the Video Features update I deferred its installation for the first time and when I ran installation, it caused my computer to reboot with the stop code critical structure corruption - since then I left it alone, but I sometimes experience the computer briefly crashing before it starts operating fine again; whereas with the Ultranav Driver I run it through, but after sometime my system tells me that the installation can't proceed on due to failure in closing some apps and/or overwrite some older files - ever since I got a different version of the same Driver, though that Driver remains as an Optional Update). What I'm saying is that all three Updates always pop up after running for new Updates in the System Update app - even after rebooting my system. I know this is a lot to ... So recently, I have been encountering problems with my computer lately.
The first has been trying to install the latest update for windows 10, but everytime it tries to install, it always ends up with the " Windows was unable to install updates undoing changes" message. The first few tomes this happened, I thought it was nothing to get worried about. After a few days I started getting black screens everytime I log in to my account. I've waited to see if the desktop would pop up but it took a whole 5 minutes to do so and the home menu wouldn't work either, and when I ran windows powershell, it seemed like it made it worse.

I've tried resetting my computer to factory defaults, but an error would come up saying that it was unable to reset my PC.

Help appreciated

Most you may have already received and installed the recent Windows Updates.
As a Windows 8.1 user, you may want to know something!
If you have NOT installed the Windows 8.1 Update or KB2919355, you will not have been offered this very important security update KB2957689 for Internet Explorer 11.
This security update resolves two publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and fifty-eight privately reported vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Internet Explorer.
Says Microsoft:
For Internet Explorer 11, are there any prerequisites for the 2957689 update?

Yes. Customers running Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows RT 8.1, must first install the 2919355 update released in April, 2014 before installing the 2957689 update.

Thus, your IE11 wont be offered this critical update if you don't have Windows 8.1 Update installed.
Just posted this - so that you do not remain under any false impression that you are running a fully patched computer - you wont be - for your IE 11 will have this vulnerability, if you have NOT installed Windows 8.1 Update yet. If you have installed Windows 8.1 Update, then you should be safe and secure!

Answer:IE11 will remain unpatched if you dont have Windows 8.1 Update installed

Hello,

I have been having issues where at first it seemed to be random Blue screen crashes, but now think it only seems to happen if i try to run a game in full screen. Even just uninstalling the AMD drivers causes me to BSOD mid un-installation process.

The blue screen says the file name "Atikmpag.sys". I don't normally game on my computer so i never really noticed this error in the past. There were a few instanced where i would randomly blue screen with the same "Atikmpag.sys" but restart and i was good to go. Only now when my friend has told me to get a couple of games i BSOD at the startup usually when the screen goes black to attempt to full screen. Not just 1 game though, iv tried several all showing the same BSOD message without even getting into the game.

Also just in Steam trying to go to "Big Window" Causes stream to crash with an error of resize buffer failed.

So like i said in the begining was a once in a while crash but now it seems to be something with full screen i think, but im a noob at this so not entirely sure. Iv researched around and tried to follow a lot of the suggestions such as reinstalling and such with no success.

I have updated my profile here to show my current system specs. But for quick reference;

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core i7 920
8GB RAM
AMD ATI HD Radeon 5970
WD 2TB HDD

Hello McCaulk.

You are using a beta version of display driver. It is recommended that you install a stable WHQL version.

Download and install Driver Fusion.
Reboot the computer in Advanced Boot Options, safe mode. Search Driver Fusion in your start menu, and remove all components of your ATI/AMD display driver.
Boot normally now. Update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

I am having problems with an Intel video driver.  This started a while ago but I finally tracked down the issue.  At this point, Intel is telling me that this is a Dell Issues because of the compatibility of its drivers.

Background.  Whenever I am trying to close a Word or other Office document, the Save As box usually comes up asking me to Save Save As or Cancel.  Now, this box is blank.  Nothing in there.  I am having the same problem with other applications such as my document management software.  Last week, it started with Chrome.  When I launch, the entire window is blank.

After tried to address this with Microsoft and spending dozens of hours on tech support calls, I started playing around with stuff myself.  Today I checked out the display adapters. I updated everything first to see if that solved the problem.  It did not.  Then I opened Display Adapter items in Device Manager (Windows 10 and I first tried disabling the AMD Radeon driver.  No Change.  Then I tried disabling the Intel HD Graphics 520 driver.  Everything worked (except all the items that rely on this driver, such as Extended Display).  I have tried updating the driver, rolling it back, but nothing helps.  I have run countless anti-virus scans and Windows updates but no help.
After going through this with Intel, they claim that my Windows 10 laptop isn't compatible with Windows 10 drivers for Intel... Read more

Hi, The latest update to the Intel Advanced-N 6205 wireless driver causes my connection to stall all the time, especially when downloading. I have to reset the wireless adapter several time during downloads, and a few times a day when not downloading. The latest version of the driver from the Lenovo update application is 15.6.1.6. When I discovered the problem I went to Intel and got the latest driver from them: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wirelessWith the update from Intel the connection now is rock solid. Just to make sure I went back to the Lenovo provided driver and the stalled connection problem was back. If anyone else is having this problem installing the Intel provided driver will resolve it. I would prefer to use the drivers provided from Lenovo but in this case the problem was so severe I have to find another way, I'm running Windows 8 on a T430S

Hi everyone, my setup - Windows 8.1, Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 with Bluetooth integrated. After installing latest Bluetooth package from Intel (via Lenovo System Update), I lost Bluetooth permanently. - I tried to uninstall the driver update, nothing changed.- I tried to restore via Windows Restore Point (I made a fresh restore point before installing these updates), no success... I have noticed that: - When this happened, the fingerprint reader behaved strange - it didn't light up (with green light) at the Windows start, and Windows was asking me for a password instead of fingerprint.- In device manager. Bluetooth category disappeared (I was there before the upgrade - for sure.). but I saw a new unrecognized device which name ended with something like "(Device Enumeration failed)" - this could propably be the Bluetooth card.- The tray icon for Bluetooth disappeared.- The Bluetooth submenu of the System and Devices option in Windows Settings disappeared (and it was there before). - Searching for Bluetooth in Windows 8.1 setting (with Win + W hotkey) athough returned "Configure Bluetooth Devices" or similar, but when I clicked it, it couldn't navigate to that option - just took me to the main settings screen. I had to do a system restore using Linux (fortunately made a full HD image backup of both HDD and SSD drives using Clonezilla - that was the only way to repair this actually - instead of full reinstall of Windows). The only driver that ... currently i'm using "monthly roll-up updates " which i understand that i've to install it one after another?
but some, day i've to taken care of many computer (clean install) it's taken too much time by doing so.
is there any install package to update windows 7 to the latest updates to make it 'present' as possible without using windows update (online check for update).

I googled the issue and found that this could mean my system reserved partition is full and indeed that is what I found. My C: drive is a 500 GB SSD but the system partition is only 100 MB of which only 3 MB is free.

MS web page has a long convoluted command line "fix" for this (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086249) but I was wondering why I couldn't just "shrink" the main C: drive partition and then "extend" the system partition using diskmgmt.msc.

Or is there a better way?

Answer:latest update failed - can't update system reserved partition

Hello Ray Lo,

Yes, potentially you can do this... But I would suggest backup of your SSD, before you try to do anything as such... WRT shrinking and moving partitions! Just in case!

One extra step enforcing security does no hurt, does it?

Not sure when the latest store app update came through, sometime this week but only jus back from hols. Noticed that when checking for updates it now always has a 1 next to the arrow indicating one is available for some app. But there is nothing showing, anyone else notice this? If you manually check get updates and then wait for cycle to finish. Then click on another tab in the app such as home and it'll then always appear. But clicking on it yields no pending updates or updates in motion

Seen this on both our machines across all user accounts

Answer:Latest store update always has 1 next to arrow but no update availble

Same thing is occurring on my machine as well. Just started recently. Can make the "1" disappear by resetting the Store App, but it always keeps coming back.

Hello everyone I have a problem updating my windows to version 1703 (Currently on 1607). What happened was on my PC there was an update available and decided to update after it restarted I got the screen "working on updates" So I decided to leave it there for a while and did something else when I came back all I saw was a black screen the PC wasn't like restarting or anything. I waited 30 minutes and nothing has changed just black screen so I decided to force turn off my PC and turn it on again my PC was checking for repairs then went back to updating when it got to 87% the update just froze like nothing was moving at all not even the loading thing it's just literally froze I waited an hour and nothing so unfortunately I forced turned off my PC and it restored back to the previous version I look through the update history it says I have updated the windows 10 creators update privacy settings? which was the one I failed and I looked at the version I was and it's still 1607 (screenshots below) and when I try to update it says it's up to date. I am kinda panicking a little and was wondering why is this happening to my gaming computer.

Oh by the way I went to troubleshooting and this is what I got a lot of errors

Update:I ran troubleshooter again and got the same thing "Repair Windows Update Database Corruption" Dang this makes me more panicking. Honestly, I hope this really gets fixed

Answer:Windows Update Failed To Install Latest Update

Hi, just a note on that most recent update:
Upgrading to Creators Update requires installing KB4013214

It seems like the download failed.

Given your repairs, an excellent start, I'd suggest you do this by way of basic checks:
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

Then from an admin prompt run
sfc /scannow

and post the result (not the whole log).

I would recommend you MANUALLY download the Creator's Upgrade.

Why?
- it lets you create a useful bootable medium with some repair features
- you can use it to do a future clean install or in-place upgrade
- if the upgrade fails, you can repeat it without downloading again.
Download Windows 10 ISO File - Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Now, once you are happy with your disk and integrity of your Windows, please take this precautionary step:
Download and use Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot disk - and you will need a large external disk or similar
and create a disk image (in particular, option Windows Backup).

Then do the upgrade using the iso you have downloaded.
When you upgrade, disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, esp. wireless mouse.

If you end up with an unbootable PC you can then restore it exactly as it was.

Please be aware that if you use lenovo update software updating the latest ATI catalyst driver, you may get blue screen crash constantly on windows xp sp2 platform.I recently had encountered this problem on my Thinkpad T60  (X1400 graphic), after several blue screens, I did a fresh system resotre to manufacture state, run all patches and still got the same error.  I finally decided to caputre the whole memory dump and used the windows debugger to trace the file, this is the error message I got in the debuggerBUCKET_ID: 0x7f_d_ati2mtag+102550?I immediately realize that this is cauesd by my latest update from lenovo a week ago. I uninstalled all ATI entries in ADD/Remove software, and restart the windows in normal mode. When windows find new hardware just let windows download the driver from web, so far it solved the problem.Lenovo should do a better job than just shove a copy of ATI driver to the update repository without test it.Also, if you use lenovo system update software updating any one or any combination of the following software: wireless card driver/hot key driver/access connection software, please do not expect it will work right after you run the update. In most castes, your fn+f5 is gonna to break or your access connection cannot load. If you need to update those, just uninstall all of the above components first , restart and use system update to update all of the above in one batch..This problem almost exists from the day one i got my thinkpad, an... When I load certain websites with flash ads and such, everything goes smoothly, untill the flash object loads and starts playing - once it loads the screen flickers and gets kind of hazy. Nothing is really effected or harmed, but the slight haziness/fuzziness is rather anoying. Once I exit the web browser, everything goes back to normal.

It doesn't matter whether I'm using Iexplorer or Opera, so I'm thinking it is directly related to the Macromedia flash player.

I installed this update through Windows Update yesterday on my Asus laptop and my parents' Acer desktop. On mine, the CU failed to install but with a retry it worked. After it installed, I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and came back with there errors:

Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected
Service Registration missing or corrupt
Windows Update database corruption.

I ran it on the Acer and the same errors were found.

So, I choose the Fresh Start option on the Asus which worked perfectly. I ran the troubleshooter again, found no problems. Reinstalled this update, but had to restart because it got stuck on downloading. After that no problems installing but the troubleshooter came back with those same errors.

The only thing I can figure is that the update is causing it but I'm not sure what to do.

Update was downloaded and when I tried to boot after restart it loads some things (network adapter) that i can see but hangs up after Win trademark and loads no more . I am not tech astute but have tried to boot in safe mode but can't do that. I can load HP diagnostics but all shows well there. Otherwise it just circles for hours. Unfortunately I don't have a restore point or rescue disc I upgraded from Win 7 online. Any ideas where to start.

Question: latest ms update

THIS IS JUST FOR INFO AS I CAN RESTORE FROM ACRONIS.any body else had a problem with this?i was just working on my lap top (xp), when the update is restarting your pc popped up. the update later was grayed out and would not stop in task manager. i had to quickly save and let it update. when it restarted i had a blank screen and had to do a hard reboot. (this is now happening on every reboot). i am running 2 accounts admin and a reduced privileged everyday account, the admin account seems to be ok, but the other seems to have been reset to an earlier time and programs/files are not there any more. ie Firefox/avg and adaware appear in the all programs list but it says folder empty. the log on picture and desktop background have reverted to ms default, and every thing in msconfig has been re enabled.

Question: Latest update

Just had the latest system update on my 830 now double tap to wake doesn't work, and calling someone is a problem, screen goes blank, so can't stop the call till the other person hangs up. Just when I thought windows phone couldn't get any worse. Will be so pleased when this joke of an operating system is finally dead, not long now!

Answer:Latest update

I had the same blank screen on calls too a couple of days ago. Powering down and restarting the phone fixed it. Note that powering down the device is different to just tapping the power button to turn the screen off.

Question: Latest W7 Update

Anyone having the same problems as me with the latest Windows 7 update. I get notification of 3 updates, restart the computer to install them and on restart it sits there telling me 0% installed then eventually briefly says something like "reverting" and completes its startup. I immediately get another notification of an update and it goes through the same loop. Then it said restart computer to complete updates and managed to get to 35%. I then get another notification of an update and so we're going on. It's still not finished yet. Anyone getting the same problem

Answer:Latest W7 Update

It seems that several people on this forum have similar problems with the latest update. One of them, Quizman, has found that downloading the updates manually from the Microsoft website has fixed it for him. Might be worth a try, personally I had no problems on 3 different machines.

What are people's thoughts about allowing manufacturer's update programs to run? I am talking about HP update, Vaio update, etc. Are they worth the risk that an update may create problems?
Thanks

Answer:Manufacturer's update applications?

Hello Vincenzo,

Most updates are for the better since they are usually to fix bugs, security risks, compatibility issues, and sometimes add features.

It's best to read the release notes to see what the new version is for to see if it applies to you or not to bother updating to.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I get, as we all do, update alerts from/for various applications. Sometimes, I do not manage to click on the alert, whereupon it disappears. I may not even have seen what application it was. Is there any way to reactivate these applications?

Thank you!!!

Hans L

Answer:Update alerts from various applications

They usually reappear after a few restarts. You may have some of your programs on automatic update and what you saw was just a notification.

If you check your Windows Logs - Applications, you might see an event indicating which program sent the alert.

Howdy,I currently have Java version 1.5.0_09-b01. Is this the latest version ? I went to my control panel , clicked on Java and then checked for updates. It told me I had the latest update. It was last updated 1-10-07.I then went to the Java web site and it looks like there is a newer version. ??I have been getting a window pop up from Spybot telling me that Flash Player is trying to update. I have been denying it because I am not sure what Flash Player is. Is Flash Player part of Java ?As usual I am confused. If there is a newer version, should I remove Java and then re-install ?Thank You for your time !Dennis Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Do I Have The Latest Java Update ?

Yes, you should remove the old Java and install the latest one.Do the same with flash. You'll need to download a removal tool to uninstall it. Go to this link for more information.

Question: Latest java update

This comes with an 'offer' to install the shopping app by Ask. There is a checkbox to set Ask as default search provider and another to set as default home page - but there is *no* option to not install the shopping app by Ask.
I got this unwanted program another time by trying to run an animation and fortunately was able to get rid of it with Malwarebytes *and* Superantispyware.
Any clues to get latest java update without the Ask app?

Answer:Latest java update

Hi,

You can try it with Unchecky, it will automatic unchek unwanted programs like the Ask Toolbar.

Also: I've tried to install Java and there is a option for it:
As you see there is a unchek option, default uncheked with Unchecky.

Lots of folks had same problem with this latest update. You can install this update manually if you wish. This command will work for the 64 bit version.

Answer:Latest update on my computer

What manufacturer and model-number is your computer-screen?What is its maximum resolution, e.g., 1024-by-768 or 1920-by-1280? (Google-search for the model-number.) What is the current resolution that Windows is using?Using high resolution makes the on-screen text much smaller.Using a resolution that is not "optimal" for your monitor contributes to "fuzziness" of each character. Temporarily reset to 1024-by-768, to see if that makes the text much clearer. Then, try 1280-by-1024.And so on, until you find a combination that is "best".

Answer:latest DirectX 9c update

Hi

Yes, always a wise choice to keep upto date with any major updates, I always have tried to keep DirectX upto date, especially if a gamer as the updates do add more funtcions and possibly at times speed and stability.

Yes it updates over the top of previous versions and no major issues to look out for, bit I would urge a system backup or important data or make an image clone if you have Ghost or Acronis type software.

Also after updating I would also check for latest graphic card drivers and install those.

My bios version is J01 V02.24 When I check on the HP bios downloads I see there is a v02.29 available. But when I try to download and install the install assistant says it may not have installed, try again. When I try again, I dont get a message at all. But if I check system bios is still shows v02.24 I dont understand how to flash the bios and am apprehensive about messing the bios up. Is there a utility that checks and updates or any other way for the novice to upgrade bios without blowing the computer up? Appeciate any help or advice on this. Below is my system bios settings, if that helps any.

When I attempt to install this update, the installer says it cannot copy branches.inf from its directory, the file was created by the installer and it is there, but for some reason it just cant copy it.

Windows update goes to a install screen to down load and install the new OS.
We have gotten it on all systems that are Windows 10 compliant.

I can see this is going to be a nightmare for a lot of people. The only choice one has it to click "Get Started" or close the update window.

I hope someone will post what happens if they are set up fro auto install?
