Sony vaio windows 7 home wont boot after interrupted power FRST LOGS

Question: Sony vaio windows 7 home wont boot after interrupted power FRST LOGS

Good morning,

I have a 4 years and a half old Sony VAIO computer with windows 7 home.

The computer was working properly until a month ago or such. Sure, maybe a bit slow since it's a bit old already yet it was working quite decently.

Unfortunately, one month ago the computer ran out of energy while it was starting (when Windows was initializing) When I tried to turn it on once again, I discovered it would go into an infinite loop trying to restore Windows 7 without success. I tried restarting it in every single mode, yet it wouldn't happen.

I tried to fix the error by using f8 and guiding myself by the assistance of the computer but did was a failure as well.

All I managed to achieve was to make a scan with FRST.

I would appreciate any help/advice on what to do next.

Here are the logs:
Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST.txt) (x64) Version: 23-11-2014 01

The current controlset is ControlSet001
ATTENTION!:=====> If the system is bootable FRST must be run from normal or Safe mode to create a complete log.

Preferred Solution: Sony vaio windows 7 home wont boot after interrupted power FRST LOGS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

my daughter-in-laws laptop (Sony Vaio laptop windows 7 vgn-nw20ef) wont boot/load
it was working fine, she got the metropolitan ukash virus, she tried to reformat/recover/reboot (she doesn't know and cant explain!) and now the laptop goes round in circles at start up
when you start the laptop it asks what you want to do, you get a text screen with windows 7, option of press F8 for other options and some more text, when you enter win 7 it hangs and closes down
ive tried accessing the recovery partition in F10 and going through the process of factory reset but it gets to 100% and then closes down and you start again with the text window, ive used the tools to check hardware and that's fine
it seems she has deleted messed with win7, so it doesn't load...
whats my next best bet to get it going again?

Which version of Windows?

Do you have a Windows Setup CD/DVD? If so that would be helpful. If you have XP and also the Recovery Console installed that would help also.

Don't mess too much with your computer other than what we instruct you to. Your hard drive may be getting corrupted and if so, the more you write to the disk the more risk you take of overwriting/damaging data that you then will not be able to recover. I'm guessing that won't be much of an issue though since you can't boot Just don't experiment

Answer:Sony Vaio XP wont boot up keeps restating

Hello obabygrl

This is a Sony Vaio so you might not have a proper XP installation CD. If you don`t you will have to borrow one and try the following

Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.
Set the boot order to
Floppy (if present)
Hard Disk

Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin.

When the Recovery Console option is offered ("Press R to start the Recovery Console"), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually "1").

When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER

At the command prompt, type
Bootcfg /Rebuild

The exact wording will depend on your setup, but after a few moments you'll see a prompt that says something like:
Total Identified Windows Installs: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add Installation To Boot List?

Assuming the information you see is correct, enter
Bootcfg will start the process of rebuilding the boot list to include the indicated Windows installation

After a moment, you'll be asked to "Enter Load Identifier."
This is the name of the operating system that will appear... Read more

Hi, and welcome to TSF!

Try disabling automatic restart on system failure and see if you get a BSOD (blue screen). If you do, post the entire technical information string that is displayed.

I am moving you to Windows XP support. This is most likely a Windows issue.

Out of nowhere my laptop wont boot. It starts and you see the vista loading screen then i get a STOP error 0x0e7 and it restarts. I tried system restore didn't do anything, tried startup repair and it couldn't find out what was wrong. I am not to sure but to my knowledge 0x0e7 error is a system thread unhandled error, how do I just randomly start getting that?

my sony vaio pcg-k33 wont boot up, although the green power light is on and the fans run. That is, when I press the power button, it makes the sound as though it's about to boot, but the screen is as black as when it was working properly and the fans and power lights are running. What's wrong with it? What should I do?
I have followed all the majorgeek malware protection instructions since last year and my laptop was well protected, so it couldn't be a malware issue. I had the motherboard and DC jack replaced for new this year, plus got a new battery and a new charger/adapter, so everything was new except the outer body (shell), the RAM and harddrive. Is this problem to do with the RAM or hard drive or other? Please help.

Answer:My Sony vaio laptop doesn't boot, but power on, fan on!

Maybe the onboard video chip is gone that's why the screen remains black.
Do you hear any POST beeps? Did the computer beep once when it was working?

Hello Everyone,

I just recently started having problems with my Sony Laptop not booting. It would stop loading on the MS windows green loading bars then hang up. I would have to turn the power off as alt ctrl delete would not reset. Upon restarting I would be given option to go into safe mode or boot normally. If I chose safe mode it would boot andbe fine if I performed a full shutdown. It would then work for a while but at times it would freeze if the computer would be left idle. I turned off power saver to prevent power down but on the last few forced shut downs I would not even get the option to go to safe mode.

When it would not boot in safe mode I had to do a complele system restore. I do not have the option to repair windows as vista came installed on my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-FW170J). I would restore the whole system reinstall programs, then back up. It would be fine for a while but eventually freeze during a reboot. I tried disconnecting from the network, tried different browsers to see if anything specific was causing a problem . I reinstalled the OS up to SP2 and did not allow updates to see if a update caused the problem but the last crash happened anyway.

I've also run check disk but it doesn't find any problems or bad sectors. Could a hardware problem with the optical drive cause this type of issue? How can I tell?

Given I've restored the OS to the original factory settings 4 times in the last month I'm open to any suggestions.

This could be a problem with your RAM, or with your Motherboard (blown caps) but the Optical Drive cant cause any errors without a disc.

Did you install any new devices or programs right before this?

i _think_ this is the correct forum.

PC has Windows 8.1 on SSD and Windows 10 on HDD.

The install of Windows 10 was over a Windows 7 installation - and i had it keep all data and programs. Which is did successfully.

When booting in 8.1, it decided to repair the disk with Windows 10.
A fuse blew and now Windows 10 will start to boot (windows logo showing) and then will just go to a blank screen.

Trying to access the Windows 10 HDD from 8.1 - gives

Running EaseUS Data Recovery on the drive shows that the original data is there..

So my question is how can i rescue my Windows 10 with all my apps and data?

Answer:After Interrupted HD Repair Windows 10 wont boot

Hello buzzbuzz Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Having a fuse go or a breaker tripped on you isn't a garden party! I've been right in the middle of something and lost files, data from that type of incident on occasion. If you made the Recovery Drive for 10 or made up the live media for 10 then you have readily available options to work with in order to get 10 running again. (Notation due to the size exceeding 4gb a 5gb or larger usb flash drive will be required to see that made up)
That would be the Recovery and Repair Tools included on the live media for things like the Automatic Startup Repair tool, other troubleshooting options, that includes the command prompt option still, and the last resort of the PC Reset that will bring you back to Day One with the need to install programs again!

What you can do from the 8.1 side is right click on the G drive 10 is on and open up the Tools tab to run the Error checking option. That will start up the Disk Check tool to scan for any disk errors. And besides the startup repair option and the PC Reset you also have the option to see an in place Upgrade to Repair type install that will 10 going again. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums[2]=Installation%20and%20Setup

These are some of the most commonly used repair options available. If you need to see the 10 installation media created having seen an online upgrade by way of the 10 app you will also want to follow the steps seen in the guide for downloading... Read more

A friend had someone work on her laptop. They said they installed Microsoft Security Essentials and after it ran, it told them to run Windows Defender Offline. Now the laptop won't boot into windows. When it gets to the Windows loading screen, you catch a flash of BSOD and reboot. I have booted into Windows RE and ran system repair with no result. I have tried SFC /scannow but it says a repair is in progress and needs a reboot. I have ran FRST64 and included the FRST.txt file. Can anyone please lead me to the next step. Personally if it was mine, I would wipe it clean and reinstall windows but not everyone seems to make backups of their important stuff.

Answer:after windows defender offline, computer wont boot FRST.txt included

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Attached is fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

Now see if you can boot into normal mode and follow these instructions:

Hi there,

For a number of months now my Mum and Dad's computer has been playing up and randomly reseting itself, even when not being worked hard or getting too hot. For example, just now my Dad was typing out an email and had just sent it off and it switched off and flipped back to the Windows Startup screen. It doesn't appear to be related to any particular type of software either, since I have been able to multitask on it myself using Windows Media Player and a number of IE7 windows, whereas when my Mum or Dad have been on it, they have been using very little power from what I can gather, only using 1 IE7 window at a time and using Microsoft Outlook on the odd occasion.

The specification of the computer is as follows:

2002 Windows XP Home SP2
1.8Ghz Pentium 4 processor
64MB Geforce 4 MX440 Graphics Card
40GB HDD connected via IDE

As you can probably tell this is an old machine (bought in 2003) and so is well out of it's warranty. Are there any replacement parts which need to be added to make it more stable or would it be best to do a complete rebuild of the system ie. reinstall Windows.

Hello all,

I hope someone here can help since i have searched the web far and wide for a solution but nothing seems to work.

Okay so i will tell you what led up to this problem:

I had a friend with an Sony Vaio SVF15A1C5E who from when he bought it had windows 8.1 installed. So he came to me with windows 7 and asked if i could make a clean install with. So i did without any big problems, he had it for like 2 months and everything worked. Then he installed some shitty programs on and it went slow on him. So we had to reinstall windows just to make sure everything was gone.
So i reinstalled Windows 7 without any problems every driver seemed to work but suddenly i noticed that the battery would not charge which i found odd, so i fumbled around with the AC but nothing seemed to work. Then i tried to reinstall the driver for the AC management that was on it. Still nothing seemed to change it. Then i thought okay, i will just reinstall windows 7 once again and it should work. But sure enough it did not work. So i am stuck now and i do not know what to do.

Notice this is a laptop only 1 year old and the battery cannot be taken out so i can try those options people have come up with on other threads. Also i tried to update bios but it says that bios is fully updated. SP1 is also installed.

I really hope someone can help here. Thanks.

Answer:Sony Vaio wont charge battery after clean windows 7 install

Okay so now i have installed windows 8.1 on it and it does charge with it. So it is without a doubt a software problem. im still not having windows 8 on this laptop. since my friend wants windows 7 on it.

Hi ,

I have a Sony Vaio S Series VPCSA35GG laptop that was working fine until it shutdown itself and since then it is unable to boot. It just displays a blinking cursor and does not boot or does not display any error messages.

I have also tried vaio care rescue option to copy my data and it also fails with mshta.exe error.

I have tried resetting BIOS to default values but did not help. I also don't have windows 7 disks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is the hard drive detected by the BIOS or the "vaio care rescue option"?

If so run the diagnostics on it, if the BIOS includes any.

I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop (Model: VPCF12A4E) from Germany. It installed windows 7 home premium on it when I first turned it on without any CD. Something went wrong after a year or so and the only way out was to re-install the operating system. I did get it re-installed but the new one is 32 bits and they dont have the original 64 bits one.

Is there any way the original windows 7 home premium can be installed? Because if it installed initially without any CD, then it must be stored somewhere inside the pc.

Answer:Help: Re-installing factory supplied windows 7 home premium 64 bits in Sony Vaio

When you first turn on a new laptop , Windows is already installed effectively. All that's left to do is for the owner to enter a few details, choose an account name and a few other configurations. That's not the same as installing Windows, the actual installation is done at the factory.

However, most new laptops are supplied with a Factory Recovery Partition (instead of a recovery disc) which is usually hidden but can be seen (though you can't browse through it's content) in
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management.

This Recovery can usually be invoked in Windows (have a look in Start >> All Programs, and look for Vaio Recovery Center.

Alternatively, ifWindows is badly screwed up, you can usually invoke Recovery by pressing a specific key when the Sony splash-screen appears. Read the user manual for info on how to do this as I've never owned a Vaio and all makes are different in this respect.

I have a VAIO laptop that froze a few days ago during internet browsing and not won't boot up into windows.

I have tried the startup repair with no success. I read another thread where someone was having a similar problem and it turned out to be avast anti virus. I don't run avast - I do however have AVG and have heard that can also be a problem.

I can get into the command prompt by using the Windows DVD to boot or also by going through the repair menu. I have run a chkdsk /r /x and also chkdsk /f /x but neither resolved my issue.

I have seen some awesome advice on the threads here and hoping someone can walk me through some diagnostics to hopefully get this resolved.

Thanks very much!

Hello, I hope I'm doing this correctly, but I've reached my breaking point in regards to the insanity of my windows 10 box. There have been ENDLESS suspicious problems for a few months now. I'm a professional trader, and have even stopped (until now)--browsing entirely on this machine due to the absurdity that has occurred. A few months ago I became so frustrated that I actually brought my computer into a local repair shop, where he, like I was absolutely dumbfounded at what was happening. When I brought it to him we both were unable to open even basic antivirus software, and we were locked out of everything. I had him format it and upgrade it from windows 7, to windows 10, (I recently deleted the windows.old folder as I wanted to rule out old things, and I'm not sure if he formatted it correctly.) My old (old like since 2000) Sony Vaio PCG-FX170 or PCG-952A Laptop w/ XP pro was running pretty smoothly since I upgraded RAM to about 512 MB (if I recall correctly) and installed XP pro. But then like after a year or so once in awhile I niticed it accidently turns off. And then like month ago it started just randomly turns off all the time at any point I was working on the computer. Now it's even worse it wont boot at all and if it does like once in ten attempts it just loads up windows and then turns off. Sometimes I could barely have enough time to read nitice that pops up so fast before it goes off saying like - windows wont work bc computer does not have windows certificate or something .
I can get to BIOS and read it all through, it's all fine;
I can boot from my original XP Pro CD but it goes only to the point when all drivers are loaded and setup starts windows and then it turns off again. Mistics..
I really suspect my old power supply might be a cause of it but don't have extra set anyway, so may anyone have any other ideas?

If it is Win XP Home edition, it will allow you to log into administrator rights only in Safe Mode. So during startup, repeatedly press f8 until you see the screen to open Safe Mode and then get into the administrator account and change the user privilages to how you like it.

Now XP won't boot, goes through the XP screen and once in a while a message pops up very briefly that says not enough virtual memory and then reboots.

I can't get it to boot in safe mode either. Also tried to boot from the XP CD and again restarts on its own.

We'd like to fix it so he does not lose any info on the hard drive.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies if this is not in the right section.I was using my laptop last week and all of a sudden it shut off. I tried rebooting and unplugging the power cord etc and still it wouldn't turn back on. I tried changing the fuse in the plug but still nothing.NOTE: I wasn't using the battery at the time as it has just run out of power and ever charging. I plugged the cord in another area and noticed the little green light on the square power brick thing wasn't turning on. I decided it must be a fault with the lead so sought to buy another one. I opted to buy a brand new official Sony one so it wouldn't damage my laptop and then thought it must be time to buy a new battery so I bought and received them today. I plugged the new lead into the wall etc and my laptop still doesn't boot up there is no lights to show power nothing. However I decided to stick the new battery on and it booted up so whatever power the  battery had it fired my laptop up but now the battery has died and I have no way of getting my laptop to turn on.Does anyone know or have experienced what might be the cause of this? I can only assume where i plug the wire into the back of my laptop is not allowing the power from the lead to connect to the laptop.

Question: Sony Vaio No Power

I have a rather nice Sony Vaio VGN-S4xp that suddenly died on me. In normal operation all of the power dissappeared, the display went, fan/disc powered down and nothing will return.
When I press power on I get power and battery flashing about 1/second and the wireless light at half this rate.
This happens with any power configuration. Battery only, batt+mains, mains only.
I have tried the 30 second reset.

Any ideas what the error lights are telling me?
Any experience of this type of fault?

Next step for me is to trash the laptop as Sony quote £185 just to look at it and estimate £3-550 repair costs. Jokers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Sony Vaio No Power

Try wiggling the power cord. That could be a loose connection. If you take it down to a computer repair shop they could solder on a new DC jack which could make it work. Anyhow, a computer shop will be quicker and cheaper than sending it off to sony

I have two identical Vaio PCG-505TX, Im testing them both with the same power cord. One doesnt power on, It wont even turn on any lights when I plug it in. What could be the problem with this one? :confused
The other, powers on & boots up, but says there is no operating system found. What I would like to know, is where do I look under the BIOS setup utility to know if there is a hard drive even installed? & if it doesnt have one, what type do I need & whats the max GB hard drive space this model will take? :yum
Thank-you for your help

Answer:Sony Vaio, No Power

Here is a link for the specs of the laptop at bottom of page. It appears you will only have 4.3 Gig HD. The way to see if you have a HD in the working model is either unscrew one of the backplates where you will see where it is or should be. Or boot with a XP disc in the rom.If you want to access the Bios try hitting F2 or F4 key and see if that gets you there. Lets see if we can solve this laptop first before we go onto the non powered one.

I have a new Sony VAIO notebook with windows XP Home installed, there are programs pre-installed that I need for some of the functions to operate correctly, however I want to upgrade to XP Pro, how do I do this?

Can I use a full professional version and will this upgrade, will it install over the top and lose my files or do I have to purchase the actual upgrade version of XP pro. Bearing in mind I already have a copy of XP Pro and would prefer not to pay another $120 for the upgrade package.

Thank you for your help

Does anyone know if my hard drive has had it?? In the middle of using a basic game and the screen went all weird. When shut down tried to start it again but it would not start up. Makes a funny crunching noise and then does nothing. No hard drive activity light. Absolutely nothing on screen at all on start up. Could it be anything else other than the hard drive.

Any ideas welcome.

Hi Friends,

I've got a Sony Vaio RS520 that shipped with XP Home Edition. I'd like to upgrade to XP Professional which prompted me to check out Sony's support website. Their support article indicated that I'd need an XP Professional SP1 upgrade CD to successfully upgrade from Home Edition SP1.

Apparently, Sony customizes their XP installations which is evident in their statement that they don't thoroughly test all of the "Windows updates" and advise their Vaio customers to only install updates from their Vaio support site.

Nonetheless, I'd like to upgrade from Home Edition to XP Pro, however, I'm not sure that the XP Pro upgrade CD offered at say, or BestBuy is an XP Pro upgrade WITH Service Pack 1. I'm hesitant to purchase an off the shelf XP Pro upgrade CD and install it without knowing if SP1 is on the disc only because like most folks, my machine is running nice and smooth with many different apps installed. To rebuild my Vaio would truly be a pain.

Any recommendations, suggestions, or knowledge about Vaio Home Edition upgrades to XP Pro would be much appreciated. Also, if you know where I can get an XP Pro Edition upgrade CD WITH SP1 please pass it on. Many thanks.

Answer:My Sony Vaio laptop wont turn on

Did you look through the Vaio troubleshooting guide?

Sony : Support for VPCEB1Z0E/B | VPCEB1Z0E/B technical support

My guide says:
-Make sure the computer is securely plugged into a power source.
-Make sure the power source is working.
-Make sure battery pack is installed properly and charged. Or remove battery pack and try using AC adapter only.
-Disconnect all USB devices and try to restart computer.
-Remove all memory modules except for one and try to restart. If more than one module, try each module separately.
-If computer is plugged into a power strip or UPS make sure power strip or UPS is working by plugging computer directly into mains outlet.
-Unplug power cord/AC adapter and remove battery pack. Wait ten minutes then reinstall battery pack and plug power cord/AC adapter back in. Try to restart.
-High humidity can cause condensation. Make sure all contacts are moisture free.

These are just some of the quick troubleshooting steps.

Answer:sony vaio mini wont connect

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. For an integrated adapter get the driver from Sony's web site.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. And show for an attempted wireless connection and then for the ethernet + wireless ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have a problem with the power of my pc. I switch the power button on, it lights up for about a second and shuts down automatically. I have tried using three different power cords for the pc-tower and I continue to get the same result. This is very unusual because I dont use the computer excessesively or on a daily basis. The pc system is just about 3 years old and I have not been running any internet on the computer for the last 14 months.

I mainly use the computer for managing my MP3's and use of Microsoft Office for school projects. I used the computer about a week ago and everything was working properly. I am confused as what may have caused this power failure and where I should begin to fix it.

Unfortunately, my warranty on the PC just expired a while ago and would like to get some feedback on this situation before I take it to a computer repair shop.

Answer:no power response on PC-sony vaio

update on my situation....

i opened the computer up and found chunks of dust all over the parts. I used an air-spray cleaner to dust off the parts and everything looks like new.

I powered the PCU, the power button switched on for about 2 seconds, then it switched off. I checked the case for wires that may have been unplugged or damaged. I also checked for cables running from the power button to the motherboard. Everything seems to be in place.

Anything else I should check?

I've been asked to look at (and hopefully repair) a Sony Vaio laptop - model number: pcg-9u1m. I'm looking for some advice on the matter...Basically the power ribbon - which connects the hinge cover panel / power buttons, to the motherboard has been broken. The connector on the actual motherboard itself which this plugs into has also been damaged. I think with the exception of a motherboard replacement, this laptop is now beyond economical repair - although if you can suggest otherwise I'd appreciate it. The actual connector to the motherboard seems rather easily broken & therefore will not hold a ribbon in place should I source a new one.I'd appreciate any advice please! Thanks

Answer:Sony Vaio - Power ribbon

What you describe sounds like the VGA Ribbon. If it is either VGA or Power Ribbon then a new motherboard is not required. I use a business who can supply the part and soilder on new.Contact me off list if you wish to discuss further.

I'm looking into why my son-in-laws Vaio VGN-FS115Z laptop doesn't power up. Would appreciate any pointers.

Have done all the obvious (reseated CPU, removed etc memory, run with power supply, checked out HDD elsewhere).

Symptons are :-

Power button works , turns machine on and off.
No backlight, no screen, no Bios beeps (even if you remove memory etc)
3 leds (Caps lock / Numlock / Shift lock) all stay on.
All chips get warm after a while.
No sounds (beeps or otherwise)
CPU fan doesn't seem to start up - not sure if it needs the CPU to get really hot first, though.
Almost as if it's lost a power line, or CPU is dead, but drive, battery, mains, wifi leds all come on and appear to work fine.

Any pointers gratefully received...

Answer:Sony Vaio doesn't power up

I've seen this on your identical model of laptop during a service for a client. We RMA'd it back to SONY and they ended up replacing the motherboard. At least that's what the cryptic service notes said when it was returned.

In my own technical opinion though it doesn't look good. When your motherboard doesn't respond at's never a good thing.

I have searched the forum and cannot find a reference to this problem....any help appreciated:
1. SONY VAIO VGN-FE790G with Windows XP Home. Ran A-OK until recently.
2. PC powers on and boots up normally with AC only. (battery removed)
3. PC powers on boots up normally with charged battery only. (AC removed)
4. PC will not power up with both AC and Battery connected, however battery led flashed rapidly as though it is charging.
5. Have tried different battery, different AC, and removed all SONY management software.
6. Updated the BIOS
7. Windows Power Meter recognizes battery, but gives "remaining unavailable" status.

I am assuming this is somehow related to the battery or the power management hardware in the PC. I understand there is a Power Board attached to the Motherboard. Could this be causing the symptoms I have?

if it is microATX, then chances are that you won't be able to find anything more than 300watts. Newegg has a 450W mATX PSU, but it is a piece of crap, got very bad reviews from everyone that bought it.

To answer your question, if it is mATX (microATX), then it is an industry standard and and any mATX PSU will have the right connector.

I need to know if anyone has any info on mycomputers power supply. Currently I have a Sony Vaio PCV-24G, which appears to have a 300 Watt Power Supply. It appears to be a mATX power supply, but I need to know if it is standard wiring, can I use a standard stock mATX power supply.

Just done a clean install from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. Installed most of the Vaio software to restore functionality to the hotkeys etc. That all works perfectly thanks to various forums on here! For some reason I can't get the Power Management to work. It is installed and included on the installed Programs list, but the extra tab does not appear in the Windows Power Options page and clicking the 'Advanced' option on Vaio Control Center does not load it either.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Sony Vaio Power Management

The driver for windows 7 in VAIO support page is not correct i think. If you uninstall this driver and then you install the vista version you get, after a reboot, a service called VAIO Power Manager and the options working ok.

I've inherited from my son a Sony Vaio VGN-N110G laptop that will not power up. No lights, no sounds, nothing. I've ruled out the power supply cord and battery.

What's interesting is that I took it apart and removed the hard drive, the CD drive, checked all the connections, powered down the BIOS, etc. to no avail. I had given up when I tried the power button one more time and IT POWERED UP. I was elated, and just about to snoop through my sons files when it went dead again. I tried everything that I did earlier but no luck this time

Any ideas?

Hope it is not like ours... identical model... went dead and stayed dead. sitting on our display shelf as a worry for Sony customers... went dead and stayed dead... motherboard died, and we couldn't find a replacement at anywhere close to a reasonable price.
Good luck. We will be watching and hoping for a good result we can learn from.

Good Afternoon.

I have a BT Home Hub 2 router with a working internet connection. I'm using a different laptop on the same router to make this post.

Sadly however, I have another laptop which cannot browse the internet. It runs on Windows 7, can connect to the router fine, but get no intenet connection. Now oddly enough, I can connect to and download games from Steam, but I cannot browse to websites using IE or Firefox and I cannot connect to MSN messenger.

When I click on Troubleshoot in messenger it tells me:

"Your DNS appears unable to resolve IP adresses" and then...

When I click repair, it can't fix it.

If I right click on the connection and click on status, I see...

If I click on Details, I then see...

If I right click on the connection and click on Troubleshoot Problems, I get this...

Any help is appeciated.

I got this Sony Vaio RS620G from next door today. Was given to me by owner cleaning place up the renters trashed.

I got ONLY the Sony Vaio RS620G with no mouse or keyboard.
It boots up but then locks up and Spybot says some reg file changed and ask to allow or deny. Then Norton pops up about two of something bad.

Can not use mouse at all. May because it has in control panel, mouse controls for a MS mouse and I don't have that mouse. I really do not know.

PC has lots of junk on it.

Has SP2 and had Belarc Advisor on it too and it shows from MS Updates that it had last updates I think 10/26/2008.

Was a DVD added to this also and had a DVD stuck in it and it was hard to get out. Was a back up of of the two Profile's Documents folder I think.
Was going to look at it but around the center ring of the DVD is a sticky ring.
I think they backed it up and then it was stuck in the drive and that was it.

Some what nice tower with a lot of things on it.

Took long time to find out how to get to safe mode.
They say F8 but it's a boot menu but has ESC option and then if you press F8 again you get all the other start up options and I just got lucky and found that on my own.

So not sure what to do to try and clean this up.

So my Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E recently fried it's hard drive. I had that replaced and went to reinstall everything using the recovery disk. I put the disk in and started the computer...after it starts it asks for an OS, saying it didn't find one on the disk. I have two different sets of recovery disks for this computer and both do this. How do I fix this? I really don't want to buy recovery disks from Sony that won't do anything differently... Of course it's out of warranty and depending on who I talk to at Sony I get a different answer each time...either buy the disks or no it's a system problem and I need to pay money to the out-of-warranty tech support to fix it...I have a friend with a Dell Vista recovery disk, but I'm not sure about using that on my Sony -- I have the product key for mine, so it should be ok...but then it'll be branded a dell...I think.Thoughts, ideas?

Answer:Sony Vaio Recover Disk wont install OS

You have to be sure your DVD's or CD's are really the thing that is booting. My guess is you need to set bios to cd as first boot order. You can maybe test the Dell to see if it will boot but you can't use it to install. It may be that the cd is bad also or the drive or the drive chip on the motherboard or you need to check wiring. I have this vaio laptop... the onboard video chip had issues (no output to lcd), sent it off for repair, returned working, but only supported software graphics mode (low res.)... booted OK - able to install xp w/o video drivers / ubuntu (could not change resolution). one day, when i was opening the case to look at the motherboard, because i was shopping around for a good used one, and when i put it back together, it stopped powering on at all. on a/c or battery. when a/c is plugged in, the upfront LEDs don't power on at all. checked all cables, reseated everything... thought i burned out the board by shorting it or something... so, i needed a new board anyway and bought one. installed it and same issue.

i can't think what i've missed.. the only thing i can think of is the cable from the motherboard to the power button and upfront lights is bad... thats all i can consider other than the possibility of the new board being bad as well, but then the upfront battery/power LCDs may light up...

i know someone with a similar laptop who will let me borrow the keyboard and case cover to test the cables.

any suggestions are welcomed! thanks!

Answer:Sony Vaio VGN-S260 laptop - won't power on

Sounds like a static discharge. Did you ground yourself or use a wrist strap? If you didnt and you did discharge into it you migh have fried anything on that board. the ram, cpu, anything. I doubt the LED's are the problem.

My SONY VAIO PCV RX650 will shut off on its own after using it for a while. When it reboots, it gives a message saying Hardware Monitor has found an error. Enter Power Setup Menu for details.

When I do I see that the Power Fan Speed is N/A.

I opened up the case to see what is happening and the power supply fan is not turning. I have cleaned it using compressed air and still nothing.

The CPU fan is running fine. This now happens every time I turn the computer on, and if it is left on for more than a few hours, or a majority of the day, it will shut off.

Is this an indication that I need a new power supply? Can anyone steer me in the right direction here as far as what to do, specifically for the machine I have. I have heard that the VAIO has specially built and structured PSU's to fit in the frame, since it is so close to the CPU.

I am not "fleet of foot" inside a computer, nor am I versed in what to do, so whatever help you can provide me, or suggestions, etc. I am appreciative.

The computer does still run, but I know I want to resolve this issue quickly, as it is a pain in the neck and can cause some damage internally.

OK, now the fan has come on.....but who knows for how long, etc.

Hi I have a Sony VGC-M1 which is an all in one integrated speakers media centre. The power supply packed up last week. I've opened it up and removed the power pack. It is a bespoke pack for this system (Details -Delta Elctronics, INC. Model number DPS-197AB A). I've been in touch with Sony and as it's well out of warrant no chance of a replacement. I can't find this power supply anywhere on the net (come across other people looking for it too). Made loads of phone calls too.

I've come to the conclusion I may not get one so am now considering alternatives. The motherboard of my Viao is obviously Sony, the power supply has an 18 pin cable (P1). I've been told all standard ATX power supplys have either 20 or 24 pins. I've read that in the Sony Vaio desktops they use standard power supplies. Does anyone know if I could find a Sony power supply with an 18pin connector, or is this a pointless avenue??

Thanks for any suggestions!

Sony Vaio VGC-M1 Burnt out power supply!

I have had the same problem with my Sony Vaio VGC-M1. I have actually opened the PSU and found it was a burnt out resistor. More drama's to follow though as these PSU's were made in Japan and I have been unable to find our equivalent resistors. I have found out it is a .22 ohm but the nearest I found at an electronics store was too big to fit. Has anyone out their had any joy sourcing these PSU's?

i have one of these laptops and it's in fairly good condition other than an issue with the power supply/AC adapter that prevents it from functioning now. a few months back, it would work, but you would have to jiggle the power cord in the back of the laptop to get it to charge. finally it quit working altogether and won't power up. the batteries are already in bad shape, barely holding a charge, but now nothing works as a result of this problem.

does anyone know what the problem is or how i could determine if this is a problem with the power supply or the AC adapter/power cord? i dont' have any other power cords/adapters that would work with it, unfortunately.

alternatively, how much would a problem like this cost to fix? say there's an issue with the internal power supply. how much would sony charge to fix it?

Answer:Sony vaio pcg-8A4L power problem

Sony will want so much money for fixing it that it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one.

Sony Vaio's are very poorly made and as a result often don't last long and are hideously expensive to get fixed.

Your best bet would be to replace the whole thing. Its probably only the socket or the soldering of the socket that has failed but its not an easy thing to repair unless you really know what you are doing.

Hey everyone,
The computer is a Sony Vaio that was dropped a while ago. The screen stopped working, and it wasn't booting, so I took it apart. The boot problem was a power issue.. so that is now solved, but I'm wondering about the LCD. Last night after I took it apart, cleaned and reassembled it, the screen worked fine. I left it running to charge the battery and went to bed. This morning when I woke up the screen won't turn on again. I didn't move the laptop or anything!
It is not an issue of the screen being too dim.. There is no faint outline of any picture - it's more like there is no power to the screen at all.
Anyone know what the problem may be and how to fix it?

Answer:Sony Vaio VGN-FJ290P Display has no power

Did you turn off the computer and then turn it on again? If not, I'm thinking the power saving mode kicked in to turn off the display. Some computers have a hard or impossible time waking up. That might be the problem.
If not, plug in an external monitor (you might need a key combo to get an external to display) so we can figure out if it is hardware or software.

Hey All

Have this annoying problem with my Sony VAIO VGN-TXN25N. The laptop will not power on without having the power cord in and plugged into an outlet, even though the battery is fully charged. Once the machine is powered on, I can remove the cord and run on battery power like normal, but it is obviously annoying to not be able to turn the machine on without plugging it into the wall. For whatever reason the little white power button is unresponsive until it is plugged into a wall outlet???

I tried to contact Sony and they kept telling me to install some graphic/video driver, which I did to no avail. If anyone has any insight I'd love your HELP!

Thank you

I've been looking at a friends computer(Sony VAIO) that shuts down randomly. It's like someone pulls the plug or a power failure. Sometimes it runs for hours, other times minutes. It will turn back on if it sets a minute. I checked the temps in the BIOS and its not running that hot (CPU-41c, MB-22c) I suspect its the power supply, but not sure. Only way to tell is to change it out with another PSU, but I've read that sony uses proprietary hardware. Is this true for the PSU too? The reason for asking is I don't want to fry the computer.

Thanks for any help on this!

well i dont see how they can at least in processor, memory,cd rom, and powersupply wise. So should be able to get a new power supply for it even the micro atx power supplies are avalible. but before i would do some thing like replacing powersupply get compressed air and hose the dust out of the power supply.

The power socket on my old PCG-FX203 broke, so I bought a motherboard from ebay from another FX series laptop, and unsoldered the power socket from it.

I then opened up the FX203, and replaced the broken socket. However, the problem still persists. I have to hold the power cable into the socket otherwise no connection is made, even though the cable clips into place.

When soldering the power socket into place, I noticed that the negative connection coming out of the socket did not appear to be connected to any components on the mboard, instead there is a short PCB track which just ends without connecting to anything. I am wondering if this track is supposed to contact with the metal chassis of the laptop and be grounded in that way. Any ideas?

I have a Sony VAOP VGN-NR385E laptop. In the past month, it has been hard to get this laptop to power on. Now it will not come on at all. I took off the back cover and checked for voltage through the adapter jack all the way to the plug mounted on the PC board and have found the 19.6 volts all the way to there. I am wondering if the power button assembly is bad. I don't know if there is a way to jump the button to make it come on or how to check if the voltage is getting to the assembly board.

Has anyone has this problem before?

Hi Folks, This is my first post. so go easy on me;-)

I switched on my PC after 1 year of no use(apple imac distracted me for a while).
The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

Answer:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

As a general rule, I leave the laptop plugged in. I am unable to run the laptop on battery power, with the cord unplugged. How do I correct the problem? I know that I didn't use to have this problem. Should I unplug the laptop periodically, and use the battery
