Preferred Solution: Windows Essentials 2012 installation stuck

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows Essentials 2012 installation stuck

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I just downloaded it last night and didn't have any issues with the Custom install of just Movie maker and Photo gallery :/
Is that how you installed it or did you install the entire package ?
Cheers.

My new laptop has never recorded sound for SKYPE Video Messaging.
Bit annoying, as Skype video calls and other similar apps, no problems with microphones/sound etc.

Since downloading Windows Essential 2012 I have no sound for any videos that previously worked fine. Specifically I wanted to use Movie Maker. Do I need an updated sound card?

I have deinstalled and reinstalled and it is the same story every time.
NO SOUND.

Any help appreciated thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D: no video sound after installation of MS Essentials 2012

Could you explain your issue precisely? What is wrong with the sound exactly?
Is the problem with particular video file format using the Movie Maker only?
Or do you have sound watching for example Youtube videos and DVD movies?

Is it safe to install Windows Essentials 2012 on a Windows 10 Surface Pro 3? Photo Gallery is what I am really after because it has a photo resize function where W10 Photo app does not.

Answer:Windows Essentials 2012

I see no reason why you cannot.
MS is still supporting Windows Essentials.

I don't have a Surface Pro, but I have been using Windows Essentials 2012 programs on my 2 laptops running Win 10.

Why did you use the word" safe" ?
You have heard of warning of that kind ?

Microsoft has released Windows Essentials 2012 which includes new versions of Movie Maker and Photo Gallery for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Details about the new features in Movie Maker and Photo Gallery are available in the Windows Experience Blog, Introducing the New Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.
Windows Essentials 2012 includes the new SkyDrive for Windows app as well as Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Messenger, Outlook Connector Pack and Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker. Windows Live Mesh and SkyDrive
If you install Windows Essentials 2012, it is important to note that if you have Windows Live Mesh installed, it will automatically be removed if you install the new Movie Maker or Photo Gallery. In its place Microsoft SkyDrive will be installed. Microsoft has specified that if the new Movie Maker and/or Photo Gallery in Windows Essentials 2012 are installed, you can not have Windows Live Mesh on the same PC.
In order to sync folders from the cloud to all of your PCs, it will then be necessary to install SkyDrive on all of your PCs or Macs. (Windows Live Mesh continues to be available from the Download Center: Windows Live Essentials.)

Hi,

I try installing Windows Essentials and it wont install! This came up for 1 hour

I got bored and cancelled the process and now the windows all user install service agent wont work, I cant log onto and internet connection won't come to my apps I have install.

Do I have to refresh my computer or anything else?

Thanks

Al

Answer:Help with WIndows Essentials 2012

A refresh would be your easiest option. Remember that a refresh will remove any installed apps that were not pre-installed on the system and your data files will land in C:\Windows.old. Since that's the case, I like to suggest that afterwards, you install the apps you life, then create a new image using the "recimg" command line tool. That way your "refresh" will refresh with your apps installed and data intact.

My school gives us server 2012 standard for free. I am wondering if it's possible to install it as 2012 essentials with the same features as essentials kind of like how win pro had every thing home had. Or are the features of server essentials not included in standard? (Features like full pc back up and the dashboard like whs 2011)

Answer:can you setup server 2012 standard as 2012 essentials?

Different media for the install, Server Standard and Datacenter use the same media. Essentials has it's own install disk and Foundation and Storage Server share the same media.

Your post is partially inaccurate. The updates for Photo Gallery and Movie Maker will not allow them to run on a Vista operating system, the other items install and run fine on Vista as I'm on a Vista machine as I type this.

I migrated an office from 2003 to 2012 Essentials.

I admin'd the box fine setting it up at home with RDS and installed REALVNC on it. Everything was groovy.

Took it to the office and migrated all the workstations to this new domain controller, migrated profiles, etc, moved files, remapped shares, did scripts, etc. Everything went very smooth.

I get home and cannot get to the box thru the VPN as I always did with the 2003 server. Can't ping it, get to it with RDS, VNC, nothing. Can't get to any of the workstations either. I'm thinkin' ohhh crap, I'm in trouble Monday morning, this office is down hard and dead!

Nope, nothing, no calls. I send an email to ask the Doctor if they turned everything off and he said no, everything is working fine.

I am not interested particularly in the web admin access, that I most likely disabled because I can't reach it either. But it looks interesting and I might re-enable it.

But mainly, how do I get RDS and VNC access back? This is a remote site and I'd like to know before I drive 100 miles round trip.

Answer:Windows 2012 Essentials Question

Windows firewall?
Possibly it (properly) detected the new network when taken to the office, but set itself to Public network instead of Work or Home?

We had that happen once here, except it was when someone did RDP in. The Network Detection dialog popped up, but he ignored the box; Windows presumably then selected Public network and blocked pretty much all inbound connectivity.
Though that did block literally all inbound connections.

I have it installed, and it boots to the dashboard, and starts the"Set Up Windows Server 2012 Essentials" dialog, it leads to "Error occurred during Installation" and says to reboot, or save logs, I have a copy of the logs files, if anyone would like them.

I'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.

Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...

I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.

After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:

Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.

any idea what could be causing?

could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"

They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.

Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.

Any help would be grateful.

Is Microsoft finally going to release new versions of its Windows Essentials software tools? I know Skype replaced the Windows live Messenger but it would be fantastic to get a new version of Windows Live Writer for my blogs. I would also love new updated versions of Windows Live Mail and Photo Gallery. I reset my computer because Windows Live Mail was not connecting to the internet and was getting an error message saying that I have used the wrong password. Now, I still can't use WL Mail and Windows Essentials is still "installing" for the last several days. Consequently, I can't uninstall WL Mail or Windows Essentials or fix them. In addition, I think, because WLE is not installed officially, I can't see my saved videos and still get the same error message when I try to connect to WL Mail...error 0x80280006. I tried to reset my WL Mail password to no avail.
BTW, I'm using Windows 10 and maybe it is partly to blame?
I want to be able to use WL Mail and see my videos, but I don't know how. Please help. Thanks.

I trust this site. That said please scan with your AV. Hopefully Live Mail is included.

While Live Mail still works for a lot of people it could stop at any time depending on your mail supplier.

I want to choose an OS for a media server, has to be Windows. I have valid keys. The server hw is pretty old, its an old SuperMicro with AMD Opteron, 6GB DDR2 etc.

Which of these is going to have the lowest resource usage? I don't need to use any pc backup features, just run it as a server with the usual tasks like Plex/Emby, downloading etc.

Alright, I have been running into a lot of problems lately with installing Windows Essentials 2012. I have gotten 2 different error codes which I have looked into forums about at and done everything they said to do. I have successfully installed it but then when I attempted to launch Movie Maker (which is all I need) it told me that I was missing something (shouldn't the installation put EVERYTHING you need for the program to run on your computer?!). So I got that file and put it in the appropriate folder and then again attempted to launch Windows Live Movie Maker and I got another message saying I was missing a DIFFERENT file. I have run 2 different virus scans and cleans on my computer (because some forum told me to run a scan). Now what is happening is that I am running the installer and with in matter of seconds it says that Windows Essentials has successfully installed. However, when I go and try and use one of the WLE programs IT... IS... NOT... ON... MY.... COMPUTER! I am starting to get pissed off. I have spent hours on end attempting to fix this problem and no forum has helped me.

Hopefully now I can get some real help on what to do.

Got tired of the start screen email app real quick, went out and downloaded windows essential pack which includes mail.

Program is a work of art, added all my accounts with just a couple of clicks, personal imap accounts, microsoft accounts and even my yahoo pop account (needs to be yahoo mail plus account, which i have for like $20 a year).

Each account has its own set of folders and each account can be given a color, the ribbon menus on top are great and offer multiple options for your emails.

Reader can be completely customized with many different views, custom column headers, etc.

Can all this be synced to other accounts, and devices who knows, I really am not into that so for me this is the perfect email app

Here's the latest in a long series of unsolvable problems where Windows Essentials 2012 can not be installed.

The repeated error message - error 0x80040609 - source WLX suite

Installation stops when installing Messenger. There are no previous Messenger installations on the computer.

The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem.

To save the time of asking me to take steps that will not work:

Windows firewall is turned on.

I've downloaded and tried running the offline standalone installer.

I'm running current DirectX.

All Windows Live directories and files have been removed. Uninstall advice does not work because the programs were never installed in the first place

I've downloaded the installation fail fixit and run it.

I've run Windows update.

I've found and zipped the installation log file but so far there's no place to send it.

There are no viruses or malware

Windows Media Player already is installed.

I've run msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

The Windows Installer service is running.

Answer:Cannot install Windows Live Essentials 2012

While waiting for anyone to respond to the original message, here are two other alleged solutions that did not work.

Ran MSCONFIG and set it for only start up services. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Ran CCleaner twice. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

I started Revo Uninstaller. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.
I checked Control Panel. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.

I've used Regedit to remove all reference to Windows Live. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Still no solutions and no responses.

Mail 2011 and had no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows live mail 2012 and
that is when the problems started.

fine as long as you only send out one contact.
The problem lies in trying to send out a group contact.
It does not go. when trying to send you get this
error msg : imgur: the simple image sharer
I did not realize this problem until i tried to send out a group contact
In fact I put the program on 3 different machines that were upgrades- same problem
Worse, I put this on 8 client computers who
had windows live mail essentials 2011 prior and same problem.
I went to the Micrososft Forum and told them the problem. They have been working with me to
come up with a fix. i sent them logs that they asked for. So far I only see on
the forum "they are working on it"
This is the forum that i posted to Windows Live Mail Essentials 2012 will not allow
group contacts - Microsoft Community

I suggest prior to putting the
new version on you backup Windows live mail first
Also this does NOT happend
if you are putting the program on for the first time and not doing an
upgrade
It does not matter if you sign into Live Mail with a live account or
you use your own isp, I have tried both and I still cannot send a group
contact.

Once uninstalling 2012 and going back to 2011 (you can still get
2011) the group contacts went just fine

what do you mean by "added my computer into the server" as it's not clear what you did.
and clarify "there is no user found on the permission for drop box"
it should list local accounts and possibly the SID of a deleted domain user (if you mean you added your computer to the domain that Server 2012 Essentials creates)

Have attempted to get Photo Gallery and Movie Maker on my Win 7 Pro computer. Installed Windows Essentials 2012 which is supposed to include these two programs. The only program that installs and shows up on the computer is Microsoft One Drive. Did a search of the computer but did not find either program. A number of websites discuss this problem and offer solutions. I've tried all of the solutions. None have worked for me. My computer specs are more than what is required for these two programs, so that isn't the problem. I'm beginning to wonder if these programs have been eliminated by Microsoft.

On a PC, it provides client backup, a tray icon and the Launchpad, the Dashboard for management of remote servers, and a VPN profile with the capability of auto-dialing and monitoring client health from the server side. On a Mac, it provides health monitoring and the Launchpad.

Hi

Having upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, I have discovered that I have limited control of my options, in Windows Live Mail (Essentials 2012 version)!

Prior to the upgrade, and with the 2011 version of WLM, I was able, through the Options facility to select certain actions, such as:

"Send/Receive on Start up!
and
Delete messages from the deleted folder on close down!

The Options Tab, which allowed these choices, was on the tool bar, at the top of the window, just below, and just to the left of the Close Window X!

This facility does not appear on the current 2012 version!

I would appreciate any advice on this matter

At the moment, I have to manually select Send/Receive, and manually delete old messages

Hi Theo, When first installing W8 I noticed the 'Tile' for Windows Live Mail in 'all apps'. Didn't take much notice as don't use Live Mail which in W7 & W8 was an integral part of Messenger. However to use Messenger you had to create a Live Mail/Hotmail a/c.
Well having become more settled with what I need in W8 I thought I'd have a look at the 'Windows Live Mail' and so pinned the tile to Start & Desktop. I just opened it today and found it has the new UI of the Ribbon Type which makes it very flexible and perhaps more attractive to future use by me. I also noticed it had the 'Options' you require, which you will find on the Toolbar when you create a new message. Hope this helps.

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.

I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.

Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

We have an important LOB application (QuickBooks 2018) that requires that requires Internet Explorer 11 for QB to operate correctly.  Unfortunately our server runs Windows Server 2012 Essentials as an operating system (not R2).  From reviewing
various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012.  However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE.  Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option.  We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Answer:Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM

Hi
I am working with windows 8 and I have installed SQL server 2007 and visual studio 2010. Now I want to upgrade these setups to SQL server 2012 and visual studio 2012. what is the advantages of what i want to do and how can i do it easily without corrupting the operating system? Please help.

Answer:Installation of sql server 2012 and visual studio 2012

SQL Server has an upgrade option that is pretty painless. Just run the setup file from your 2012 installation media and click the upgrade option. It will ask you what instance to upgrade, run some checks, and then upgrade it for you.

Visual Studio is a little different. If you install 2012 without uninstalling 2010 first, you will simply just have both versions to choose from. You can completely uninstall 2010 before installing 2012 by finding your 2010 installation file and adding the uninstall and force switches when running it(ex. "C:\vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force").

If you keep 2010, 2012 will ask you if you wish to import your settings and whatnot from 2010. If you uninstall 2010, 2012 will just have it all when you open it for the first time.

Not sure if normal discussion, non-question threads are allowed, but...

Seriously, Windows Live Essentials is such a hassle to install / uninstall / reinstall.

When I went to delete Messenger to attempt a re-install, it wasn't listed in add or remove programs, so then I had to go delete the folder in Program Files x86.

Then I had issues with the Windows Live Essentials thinking it was still installed. Even CCleaner wasn't enough to get rid of whatever it was tricking the installer into thinking it still existed.

In the end, it took a long time of browsing forums and so forth until I had to use third party tools to get it to work. People have had to develop their own dedicated tools for this specific problem.

Seriously, Microsoft, the creators of the Windows OS, and one of the most established companies in the world, should not have such crappy problems. I'm so annoyed that I actually had to rant somewhere about it.

But, for future reference, is there any more simple way of repairing MSN without going through all this again?

If anyone here knows anyone that has anything to do with the development of Live Messenger : Pass this info up. It's seriously a headache to deal with. I love the features of the programs themselves - the Essentials Antivirus is enough to protect anyone's computer (who won't download dumb crap) and messenger is good (except blocking people in nearly impossible now). It's just the installation that's so...crap, really. You shouldn't be nearly forced ... Read more

Wow- what a mess this is. You know, the Win8 love/hate thing- desktop OS vs. Tablet... I get it. Trying to make things easier for Joe Average user. No Problem. But this stupified, dumbed-down interface on Essentials is a joke. They have emasculated Small Business Server. I've been deploying SBS since the old 4.5 days. It evolved into what a lot of us feel was the best- 2011. Great product, served a HUGE need, and by 2011 they really fixed most everything that was ever wrong with it.

So of course, MS has to f**k it up. First, by removing Exchange, then by applying this moronic Win8 interface... to a server! It's truly pathetic. It has been sad to watch MS abandon the small business community- both its customers and the people like us who support it. This one is the worst yet.

Answer:2012 Essentials rant

They arn't abandoning them per say, just making the poor decision of trying to force everyone to hosted exchange and office 365.

SBS2011 was a good product and had its place in deployments, I tried to stay away from it though, I honestly don't like small companies having Exchange servers in their office.

Here's a new one for ya.

I have 2 accounts: admin & limited. I use the limited.

Upgraded from live essentials 2011 to essentials 2012. had mesh, skydrive, photo gallery/movie maker, and outlook hotmail connector.

The upgrade updated skydrive, outlook connector, and photogallery/movie maker, and removed mesh, as to be expected.

logged into limited account to access photo gallery and got this:

Went back to admin account and repaired it. It mentioned that a file corruption was preventing the repair. So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, restarted, logged into admin, and accessed photo gallery. Worked fine.

Went into limited account again with the same error. It does eventually start up, but you have to click OK 5 times to make the error disappear.

If someone knows a fix, let me know. I'll keep trying to work it through, and I'll post what I find.

This is the 'corrupt profile error' when I try to repair:

Answer:Essentials 2012 error

Well, uninstalled every aspect of essentials, including outlook connectors and skydrive, then Ccleanered it up. Got it working after 2 days. MS fix-its and suggestions didn't work. But, I'm happy now.

Has anyone else gotten this combo to work?

Whenever I try to install WSE2012 through UEFI/BIOS it fails. The computer reboots before I even get into the setup GUI. So far, I have only been able to boot into DOS.

I've removed all PCIE cards, unplugged hard drives, and updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I verified the chksum of the WSE2012 against Technet so i know my download is good.

I burned the ISO to DVD & Flash drive.

Any ideas?

Ok so I have been reading up here on rants and different things on the storage spaces piece...

I went from WHS v1 to WHS2011 now but am not running any backups or duplication or anything....

I am now running WHS2012E (if you will)...on a machine to make sure it all looks good. But I only have 1 drive in it at the moment..

so in my ESX 5.5i environment I installed it then added 2 drives...

just for confirmation....

what is the mimimum size drive to use for the OS???
I have a 1tb in there and was going to get 2 x 3tb drives.. and only use them.
but V1 would allow you to duplicate data that way but the new WHS2012E does not.
seems drive pool must be 2 seperate drives in addition to the OS drive so it makes no sense why wyou would want a 3tb OS drive...
(verified this by more googling... hah)
am I missing something here?

I am thinking 250gb or 320gb drive for OS (have them already)
3 x 1tb drive in a pool then mirrored x1 (as I have them too) - if that is what it is called...

I dont need 2 copies of this and 3 copies of that.. raid 5 for this and all that...

I have pics, movies, data files that are shared out to computers in the house... I just want to make sure if a drive goes I can get all my data back....

recommendations?

this machine will be running
movie share
music share
data share

I installed Windows Server 2012 on a new machine and for some reason, the install put the "System Reserved" partition on one disk (the data disk) and the "System Boot" partition on another disk (my intended system boot disk). The Server 2012 install disk does not have a repair option, so I tried a Windows 8 install disk and used the repair feature of that disk.

I disconnected the data disk and ran the repair and it looks like it has worked. The server 2012 machine can boot and seems to run ok, but the repair installed the files that would normally be on the "System Reserved" partition onto the boot disk partition of C, so my C: drive only has one partition and it contains all the boot files and OS files.

My question is that is it ok to have all the files on one partition, or am I going to run into potential problems down the line.

I've reached the end of my limited networking knowledge. Here's the deal:

- I have my home server running Windows Server Essentials 2012. Its primary function is backups of my various computers.
- My ISP is ATT Uverse, which provides a modem/router/gateway. It sucks teh ballz, so I set into bridge mode and set up a Netgear Nighthawk behind it. ALL devices are connected to the Nighthawk.
- I want to set up the server for remote access so that family can grab pictures and files remotely, and so I can do the same.
- I followed the instructions and the auto setup (I had to forward ports 80 and 443 manually, but that's done), and from the server's perspective, it says it is set up:

And now the problem:
When I try to access the sever from INSIDE the network, it loads the login page no problem. BUT, when I do so from the outside, the server sends no data, nothing loads.
Am I missing a setting on the bridged gateway?

I don't do these posts (Hey look at me, I'm awesome!!!), but this one needed to be made...
I am a graduate of both WHS v1 and 2011. I liked both, missed drive extender, and loathed my ATT Gateway as a result. That said, they always backed up on time, and the way I wanted, with no issues (until Drive Bender decided to bork everything and my Windows 8 laptop refused to play nice with WHS2011).

Well, my server needed an upgrade anyway, so I decided to gut it (mostly) and start over with the new Server Essentials 2012. (SE2012 from here on)

Old Specs: Core 2 Duo E4400, 2gb DDR2, Some s775 Asus board, and a 9800GT PE + a 2TB WD Green.

New Specs: AMD A6-3650, 4GB DDR3, an MSI A55m-P33, an Intel 120gb SSD for the OS, and I added two more WD Green 2TB drives (total 6tb).

I cannot emphasize it enough how easy the setup was. Drivers installed with no issues, straight from the mobo disk, and then updated through windows update. Unlike with my two WHS installs, I didn't have to trick them into thinking it wasn't a server OS etc. Getting DriveBender back in the form of storage pools was awesome, and again, set up with no issues whatsoever including built in duplication. The entire process, hardware switch included, took MAYBE 2 hours. That includes setting up a domain on the network with SE2012.

So, compared to my previous server OS experience, I also like the new dashboard. It's a bit easier to work with and makes a little more sense, though some of the dire... Read more

We operate three machines, Desktop XP fully up-to-date, two laptops, working ok following install of BDefender 2012. The desktop, following a second go at installation of BD'r now takes 7 minutes to boot up and reach usable state. I have tried to roll back using System Restore, but it tells me it cannot be done - tried three different dates. I use IOBit 5, not achieved anything, and BD'r tune up, no result.
There was some kind of snag at the first installation, and given a slow boot up I uninstalled BD'r using the BD uninstaller and reistalled to reach the position described above.
Any offers, please. Is there a conflict twixt BD and IOBit? They worked together well for the last three years. Any offers will be appreciated, but I am not a confident expert, just been using the machines for 15 years and reading PCAdvisor.

I swapped out the HDD on my wife's laptop with a new SSD, and did a fresh install of Windows 7.

My wife liked the live mail, and the photo viewer, and had the 2009 version on the old system, I think.

Anyway......you can only install the new Windows Essentials 2012, or it's individual components....or so I thought.

I tried doing that, and first it hung on the "install", until I got fed up and cancelled. A couple more attempts, and it said it couldn't install mail, movie maker and photo viewer. I tried the offline installer, tried finding an older version....with no luck.

It would keep installing OneDrive though, if I tried to install the entire suite.

One thing I found out is, that if there are any components/program files from previous versions, it won't install, or so I read. If I go to C:\Program files, and/or C:\Program files(x86), there are folders for Live essentials components. Obviously it came with the fresh Windows 7. I'm pretty sure that is the reason, but if I simply try to right click and delete those folders, it tells me I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to the folders.

It's ridiculous.

Any help/feedback GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There is an article on SuperSite that explains how to add a computer to a Server 2012 Essentials machine (i.e. install the connector software) without it taking over the workstation and adding it to the domain.

Article...

Hopefully MS won't put some sort of bullshit block in for this in the final RTM.

Sorry I call bogus. No way in H E double hockey sticks that Norton gets 4.5 stars and MBAM gets 3. Not to mention they use an old outdated version of MBAM. They compare version 1.51 when version 1.62 has been out for a while now. That just shows that PCMag doesnt want to step on their advertisers or people who pay them money for good reviews. Norton has done this in the past with PCMag and everyone knows it. They had the most adverts in the published mag and they still get favored on their online only mag now.

Not to even mention the fact they dont even test MSE at all. Funny how they test so many, but yet they dont test the one from the OS Developers themselves. PCMag can take a long walk off a short pier. They are only padding the ego of the people who write them checks. They are not nor will they ever be a publication to read if you want real results and feedback. They only care about who lines their pockets.

Ok, so after a long time working fine, my desktops stopped backing up.

So, as recommended by the TN Article for Client Backup issues, I started the Database Repair Utility in the Dashboard.

It starts, and after a while it fails and says it fails due to an unknown problem. I click the link it provides to find help, and it dumps me in the generic Server2012E page. I've not been able to find any help on this issue.

Any idea's ?

I also ran a SFT /Scannow on the server. The last time I had a client backup issue this fixed it.

Exact Error Wording:

I have restarted my computer to factory setting several times in the past without coming to this problem. I did so and went to school while it was doing this and when i came back i saw that the screen said that windows was setting up its services, so i was thinking why would it do it now if it never did it before.
I restarted the computer while it was like that. Now it says "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." When i click ok it restarted and goes back to this specific screen and says the same thing, and its stuck in this loop. I've checked other pages and i cant seem to find the answer im looking for. I don't have an installation disk because this computer came with windows 7 installed and apparently it didn't come with any disks. The screen is black with just the words "Setup is starting services" and the box telling me to restart again. If anyone has a solution to this please post. P.S. Its an acer computer.

Hi. I started to install windows. Did full format for all partitions. When computer was copying files (dark blue screen, long yellow bar) from setup few failed to copy at 97th%, disk is a little bit scratched. Everything kept going fine till the end. At the last step of installation "saving setting" I stuck on. When tryed restart computer and insert another disk of windows to install computer just normaly booted and opened that installation with reading "setup is being restarted" then everything started again and stucked on "saving settings" again. How do I can format hard disk and start with good disk from the beginning?

You should stop the install, eject your CD, and clean it... if it can't copy the file, it's probably because your disk is dirty. i installed my system in like 2 hours. So, check your cd, if it's really dirty, or there are scratches, try downloading a new version(it will be legal, cause you already have an original, right?) or go to a friend, and ask him for his CD...

Hi.

Right, straight to the point. I've recently been given a few parts of computer from my friends that has now been assembled into a working desktop.
I've got Windows 7 saved as a .iso file on a usb-hdd. I manage to get it working up to the point where i click "Install Now" on the Windows 7 installer programme, then after a couple mins of loading once clicked it comes up with this message.

"A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

There are 3 options that come up with this pop up being "browse" "ok" and "cancel"

After clicking "ok" it comes up with another message saying

"No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

Can anyone tell me what's wrong or what i have to correct in order for it to actually download please?

Computer specs are as follows:-
AMD Athlon ii x2 (3GHz)
Gigabyte M61PME-S2P Motherboard
WDC WD1600JD-75HBB0 Hard Drive (came from a Dell Dimension 5000, been wiped of everything.)
Kingston hyper DDR2 RAM (unsure of make so i've just written what's on the RAM itself.)
ATI Radeon HD 5750 Graphic card.
Some random CD/DVD drive
Another random Power Output

Thanks for your help!

Download??? I don't follow that.

If I had a Windows 7 ISO, I would burn it to a DVD, and then install from the DVD.

Or am I misunderstanding something?

basically i have purchased windows 7 home premium and when i install it, it starts working until it gets stuck on 87% of "gathering files" in setup. i have tried installing this on another pc and it works so it is not a faulty disk, also i have tried another disk and i have the same problem.

what do i do. both times when installing on my alienware m9750 (the laptop i am talking about) i have tried doing an update coz i don't really want to lose microsoft word and other files, but will do a complete installation if people think that's the answer.

Please help!

p.s. i have tested my pc with the microsoft windows 7 compatability check it says it should work

Answer:Windows installation gets stuck on 87% HELP!

How long are you waiting? Try leaving it overnight, if you haven't already. Also try unplugging all unnecessary hardware before trying to install.

Hi All
In the last week I have set up my sons very old university tower PC in a spare room it was hand built years ago and his Uni installed Windows XP on it
Its only when we turned it on we got messages saying the copy of windows was not an official copy but it still allowed us to surf web and all that a computer should do with Windows working fine but just not getting updates.
I got a new copy of Windows XP and the discs keycode and began the load of the new Windows XP without removing any programmes.
The installation had to go through around five areas to fully install and it did the verification, checking files and got to the installation section and started to go through this area showing countdown of 39 to 34 minutes to go,then it just started to go round and round sticking on this 39-34 minutes to go with the screen blacking out with just the cursor blinking in the top of the screen.
I tried numerous times to switch off and on and each time the screen goes to the installation page and just continues to go around the full circle back to the 39-34 minutes area and obviously failing to load although the message says loading which it obviously is'nt as the disc in the drive stops spinning and the computer just goes then to a black screen .
As a result I cannot access anything or get out of this cycle the disk has put me in.
I dont have passwords or anything to access the computer in its hidden depths so wondered if there is any way of breaking the cycle its in and try... Read more

Answer:Windows Xp stuck at installation

Might worth it to format (erase everything) and reinstall fresh.
When doing an update to an operating system it is difficult to get the system stable again, since a lot of files are supposedly to been "updated", but in the process the system hangs or the files are being used or simply corrupted copy process and all goes to oblivion.
Hard way: Try the recovery console by booting from your XP CD.

It is also using full network bandwidth, but nothing is happening. What should i do?? Please help me. Please!!

Try going in "Recovery" and go to a point prior to installing offending program. If you need help getting to the recovery screen go to the tutorial section of the eights then click on "r" and it will bring up a screen that will hopefully be able to help you. If not then post back here and I will walk you through the process. . .good luck.

My laptop runs Windows 7 HP 64-bit.
I tried repair installing the OS from setup from my hard disk. When I returned after two hours, there was a black screen, and system was non-responsive. I waited for another half an hour, but decided to restart the laptop.

Since then there were two options in the boot menu:
1.Windows 7 2.Windows Setup Rollback

Either of them lead to the same black screen(even the backlight is off) after the windows logo.
when I selected Windows 7 option and ran in Safe mode, a low res setup screen saying that
"Windows cannot complete the installation in safe mode. to continue installing windows, restart the computer"
appears and then the system restarts

Then I tried repairing the OS from Command Prompt in the repair options. I tried bootrec, of which FixMbr and FixBoot ran successfully, but ScanOS and FixMbr showed 0 windows installations.

Since this step, the "Windows Setup Rollback" Option has disappeared from the Boot menu, but the back screen after booting and the "setup cannot continue..." screen still appears in safe mode.

The black screen stays indefinitely long until I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, which causes reboot after some time

Startup repair can't detect any problem
sfc /scannow says that there is a system repair pending, restart and try again
No memory hardware errors

Note:I cannot format the disk as a lot of important data is in the same partition as windows.

How am I supposed to repair the Windows without... Read more

I have a dell computer an it hasn't been used for a few years since it was ruined by a virus, so i decided to completely re-install windows xp . I don't have the CD for it, and i am re-installing it from the wintt32 from c:/i386. The problem is: it is stuck at "installing windows" . Every time i try it a window pops up saying "hardware installation: the USB human interface device has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibilty with windows xp..." then it gives me the option of yes or no to continue the install, which i cannot choose since the mouse AND keyboard both don't work since they cannot be installed. If i unplug them, it continues w/o problem but i still cannot finish the install since they don't work so i cannot choose any options. PLEASE HELP!!I need this computer for autoCAD so please please answer quickly :(

Does it do that with any USB Keyboard/Mice you plug in, or just those one's? And if the PC has the correct ports, you could try using a PS/2 keyboard/mouse as they pretty much run on anything without a hicccup!

After I format a partition and begin installing, it goes threw all of the steps and gets stuck on "installing updates". I've let it sit for 2 hours and still was stuck. I've tried a different disc, and even tried a usb. It still does the same thing. But I can install ubuntu on it and it works fine. and I don't get the option to turn off upgrades before it begins the installation.

Hi, I tried installation yesterday after month or two to get the same outcome, my instalation is getting stucked at 71% while 91% in Driver subcategory. Does anybody know what is happening around that time in installation so i can unninstal/upgrade the driver?

Answer:Windows 10 Installation stuck at 71%

Probably Windows try to find drivers for some device and cannot. I recommend to disconnect all peripherals (printer, gamepad, external hard disks etc), expansion cards (TV, audio etc) and any extra drive. Leave only the DVD-ROM, the Windows hard disk, the graphics card (if discrete) connected. Then try to install Windows 10 again. After a successful installation you can reconnect your devices and install drivers for them.

I left my laptop on -stuck at 99% from 7p.m. until 7.pm. the following day and it was still stuck. I aborted the installation and tried again a few days later. I had the same result. Does anyone else out there have the same problem?

Any suggestions?

This is happening to me too. I loaded a fresh copy of W7 then tried the upgrade. It has been stuck all night. I brought up Task Manager and checked CPU and that is jumping around so it is doing something. Also the Resource Monitor shows about 13,000 B/s from System and 8 B/s from svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted). The Network tab shows lots of activity. This is a DELL e6400 64 bit.

Does anyone know what to do about it?

My windows vista sp1 installation has been stuck at 70% for the last hour or so. I have rebooted twice already. The computer simply goes back to the install starting at step 3 of 3. It gets to 69% and stays there for about half an hour. Then it gets to 70%. It's been at 70% for an hour now. Any recommendations? Has anyone had this problem before?

I am in the process of installing Windows XP Pro. During the installation, at the fourth step titled 'installing windows', I had to shut my computer down. (I'm installing it on my laptop at work; I was getting off work and I'm not able to leave my laptop there.)

So I get around to finish installing it a couple days later, but this time with a different installation CD. It's still Windows XP Pro, it's just a different CD. When it boots, it loads up the fourth step where I left off.

But now, when I enter the CD-key, it won't accept it, because the data from the previous installation CD is still intact, and I don't have the previous CD anymore.

Now it is stuck at that fourth step in the installation mode with 39 minutes remaining. I can't get past that step because I don't have the correct CD-key and I can't restart the installation because when it boots, it will only continue from the fourth step of the installation.

Am I basically screwed here? Do I just need to boot with a DOS disk and format the drive? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I need some help.
I can't fix a problem with the installation of Windows 10. When I'm going for a clean install, the computer restarts normally and then hangs at the blue logo of Windows 10. I don't even see the 'loading dots'. It just hangs and does nothing, it's so weird. I presume it's a driver/motherboard issue, but I can't find anything about it on the internet.

I have tried the following things:

Waiting USB/DVD installation.Disabling the WiFi-module.Removing all peripherals.Replacing the ram modules.Older builds of Windows 10.Disabling fastboot.Disabling secure boot.Tried the USB at my laptop and it works.Updated the bios to the latest firmware.Crying

My specs: Asus Z87-PRO GTX 970 16 GB ram ( 2 x 8 )
A couple months ago I could install Windows 10. After using it for a month or two my computer could not start and was hanging at the logo. I reinstalled to Windows 7 and everything was back to normal. Now I want to go back to Windows 10, but the installation hangs at the logo.

Hi all,
I'll do my best to explain the problem as clearly as possible. I installed Windows 8 Pro on my Desktop PC using the web-based installer, and it had been working fine with no problems. A problem developed with the power unit of my PC and I needed to do a refresh installation of Windows 8, keeping the old settings but basically installing Windows 8 again on the same PC. Initially I thought Windows 8 was working fine but now I am unable to access the C drive of my computer and can't make any changes to files or anything. I'd even uninstall the operating system and start again from scratch if I could but it won't let me do that. Can't log in to ASP account, can't set admin status on any file, even changing the desktop background seems too much to ask. About the only thing I can do is restart the computer and access files on my desktop. If anyone could please help that would be great. Thanks for reading.

Tom.

Answer:Please help - Completely stuck with Windows 8 installation

Hello EGuitar. Welcome to the Eight Forums.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Others will add more. Since you have already tried other options, can you create a bootable installation DVD from the ISO of the Windows 8 product that you bought. Can you save your work files to another drive? Have you ever done a clean install?

Clean Install - Windows 8

Are you still having problems with your power supply?
Probably a good idea to fix that issue first.

I started installing windows xp and some of the files were not copied which screwed up the installation process.I'm thinking it was cuz my disk was scratched, but I have others. So i wanna do a repair but everytime i restart my computer it will not give me the option to boot from my disk. And yes, i went into the BIOS and changed the settings to boot from the disk first. Now all it does is continue at the part where installation stopped asking for the missing files and then of course, I get an error because the files are missing.
