Preferred Solution: Blank .exe icon in Google Chrome & Internet Download Manager.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Blank .exe icon in Google Chrome & Internet Download Manager.

Hi PirateCreed,

I came across your problem because I had the same problem you mention with a new install of Google Chrome today. Could have been a problem for me because I used the corporate msi to install Chrome because I did not really want the program to install to the C: drive (yea, good luck with that one). I could probably write a book about that.

So this is what I did:

1. Uninstalled the 32-bit Chrome.
2. Search the C: drive for any mention of Chrome. May have to make sure hidden files are showing. Found remnants in ProgramData, Program Files (x86), and my Windows 7 x64 user profile. Deleted all.
3. Reboot.
4. Search through the registry for Chrome (complete word only). Deleted all relevant keys (gotta be careful here).
5. Reboot.
6. Went back to the download page for Chrome, chose the Alternate (offline) Google Chrome installer (Windows), selected the Alternate installer for all user accounts link, and under the Download Chrome button selected the 64-bit version (not sure if that is necessary but since I have x64, why not).

64-bit - https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/?platform=win64
32-bit - https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/?platform=win

7. Let the Chrome install, since it is for all users it will install in the Program Files (x86) folder, don't ask me why. I always assumed x64 programs installed to the Program Files directory.
8. Reboot.
9. Joy at last.

Hope this helps but of course your mileage may vary.

Hi TwinHeadedEagle,
I have almost exactly the same problem running on my computer. I have run zoek, malwarebytes, and AdwCleaner and I still have the problem. Rather than create a new post in the forum I have just replied to this post since it seems so similar. I have now run Farbar and have attached the two logs. I also included a pic of my task manager showing the processes that keep loading. Can you help me? Thank you!

My computer was running slow so I went to my task manager and seen a whole bunch of Google Chrome processes running. I was confused at first because I don't even have Google Chrome installed. As I tried to stop the processes one at a time, more only popped up. Then I looked it up on the net, found others yall have helped on this site, and know there's something wrong. If possible, would like to know how and when the malware was installed as I have multiple students that use the pc and this is the first time ever had this happen, would like to know if it was a user doing something wrong by accident or on purpose (is even possible to know, but mainly would like to just get pc fixed!)

I right clicked and Disabled Antivirus AutoDetect (Norton); Downloaded zoek and have result log attached. Required a pc reboot and did that too. Problem is still happening. It also changed my home page to google.com (I changed it back). I also uploaded a picture of my task manager if that helps any.

Thanks!!!

Now I've been having quite a deal of trying to restore a lot of default stuff after having some theme files go wrong. As you could see I've been posting recently about "how to get this back", "why is this blank" stuff like that, I'm sorry. I guess this is what happens when you don't back up your files. I'm learning the hard way and will back up my files next time. :I
--
Now to my question, every time I download something it's icon shows up as a blank page (picture) and this isn't only for iTunes. I was just using iTunes as an example. But as you can see in the picture provided, there is a blank page for the icon. I don't know why it's doing this, it does this both in Firefox and Chrome, I reinstalled Firefox and it still does it. Here's a catch though, whatever I download has a correct icon for it in my downloads folder or where ever I save my download too. (This only applies if it has it's own icon, like iTunes for it's installation.exe icon). I'm pretty mind boggled about this. I don't know any other reason why it could be doing this. I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) and at the time being, I cannot restore my hard drive as in I need an Acer recovery disc, which I do not have (which I'm sure if I could do this, it would solve my problem).

Thank you for reading this. (:

Answer:Blank icon everytime I download something?

Hello CosmicPoptart,

The program's icon will be seen on it's .exe file or shortcut instead.

That's the "Open File - Security Warning" prompt, and is common for the icon to be like that in it. You could use the tutorial below to unblock the downloaded file to stop getting this.

Open File - Security Warning : Unblock File

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Source: Google Browser: Google Chrome And Chromium Download

I recently tried to download the latest version of the open source version of the Google browser called Chromium. A search on the Internet did not reveal a website with a download location in the first results. The only thing that came up was the build server of the Chromium project which listed all the builds of the web browser for download.

Answer:Google Browser: Google Chrome And Chromium Download

I didn't know Google lets you download the whole code for Chrome, that's pretty cool. I use Google Chrome and I like it. Lot faster than IE 7. It's a very good base for new web browsers if people are using it to work from.

So I like to stay on top of things, and that mean at least running betas of browsers, if not dev channels, and what do I stumble on in Chrome? A new download manager. It's not on by default, so you won't see it right away, but if you go to ABOUT:FLAGS, and enable "New Downloads UI" you no longer get that annoying download bar at the bottom of Chrome. I know some may like that, but I hate it, so to me this is a welcome find. I also noticed they added "Smooth Scrolling", but again, it's not on by default, so you need to enable it under flags too.

Hey all,

I've got a laptop and every time I try to load anything in Google Chrome, it gets redirected to an "about:blank" page with nothing on it. I see the actual page for a few seconds when I first go there, then it quickly redirects to "About:blank".

I know it's malware, but malware scans with Malwarebytes so far, apparently haven't removed it. There's an extension in Chrome that I know is causing the problem called "1" but every time I uninstall it, it immediately comes back once I restart Chrome or the computer....?

Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Google Chrome Tab added - "about:blank"

By default, I have Chrome open to a Chrome homepage. If that's what you want, go into Settings and press Restore Default Settings. I think a recent Chrome update has resulted in some odd behaviour but a lot of it seems to have been fixed.

Hello again, I have another important question. I used to have Google Chrome as the small icon on the bottom toolbar on the screen. But somehow i changed it to Mozilla firefox. Does anyone know how to change this small icon back to google chrome?
Its on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, next to the start button.
Thanks in advance again, sweetcitywife

Answer:How to change icon to google chrome

It probably hasn't gone, theres a double arrow also on that tool bar. If you click that it'll show you a pop up menu with the shortcuts that don't fit on the bar. You can drag these to change the order.

Hello.

I was messing around with my gmail and Google Driver earlier, when suddenly this icon appeared (see image below) with a message, saying something about "background apps".
This might seem silly of me, but the icon is annoying the hell out of me right now, and I would love for it just go away.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this icon? I don't want it to show up ever again.

Translation, from above:
*About Google Chrome
*Task manager
*Google Drive
*✔ Allow Google Chrome to be run in the background
*Exit
EDIT: Um.. I played around, removed the "check mark" and it seems to have removed the icon. (Easier than I thought.)
I can't be 100% sure that it won't re-appear after I restart my computer, though.
But the problem seems to be solved for now. Also I feel stupid.

Answer:Disable Google Chrome Icon?

Click on "Allow Google Chrome to be run in the background" and it will go away.

Hello.

I'm trying to customize my Google Chrome Icon.
I downloaded a custom icon off the internet, then I changed the icon of the shortcut and pinned it to my task bar. All well and good as can be seen in the picture below:

But when I open Google Chrome it reverts back to the old icon, as can be seen in the picture below:

Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Customizing Google Chrome Icon

Well I'm sorry to say that I don't have Chrome installed but I do have SRWareIron portable version installed.

So using that Chromium browser I tried changing icons and got the same problem. The old icon still shows up in the taskbar when it's run.

The solution was to not only change the icons in the .exe files using Resource Hacker

but also to modify chrome.dll

Hopefully that should give you a clue as to where to start looking.

I just did a clean installation of windows 8.1 on my laptop from my media recovery disk. I downloaded Google Chrome but the Desktop Icon does nothing. I went to the Chrome.exe file in Program files (64) and did the "create shortcut" which works but I get the UAC box. I already checked the "run as administrator" box in properties.
Something isn't set up correctly but I don't know what it could be. Firefox and IExplorer work fine. Suggestions?

Possibly something went wrong during Installation of Chrome. Try Re-installing it once.
You can also try downloading the offline installer from Here.

I set the shortcut to a custom icon and it keeps changing it back. It's not right after but I happen to notice it's not what I set it to anymore. It's always the newest version and I'm never around the icon file or the chrome file.

Answer:The Google Chrome icon keeps reverting to the default one...?

[just a guess]
Chrome refreshes itself from time to time. When it does it refreshes the icon that is the shortcut for the program.

Hello,
Chrome browser stores my passwords in the "Password manager". However, some sites ask me annually or half-annually to change the password. But it is not replaced in the "Password Manager", it keeps the old password, and when I try to open that site, the old password is embedded, have to change it manually. Chrome does not open a pop-up window asking if to save the password, as it has one saved.
In the "Password Manager" cannot do any editing.
Answers will be appreciated.
Thanks
Motim

Answer:Password Manager in Google Chrome

I believe you must delete the saved password and then chrome should ask to save the new password the next time you log in.

Or set chrome to never save passwords and use a better password manager like LastPass.

Hi, I just found a neat little feature in Google Chrome and I'd like to share it with others who might not have noticed it.

First you'll click the wrench in the top-right of your browser.

Then navigate to the option 'View Background Pages'

Then in the open window you can manage the processes Chrome is currently using. To get a more detailed look click the 'Stats for nerds' option.

And you should find yourself at a page that looks like this:

I always use Sandboxie to open my browsers and this still works perfectly with Chrome, but the normal Chrome desktop shortcut icon has suddenly stopped working.
All the other desktop icons work OK.
I would appreciate any clues as to why this has happened and how I can resolve it.

Answer:Google Chrome Desktop Shortcut Icon not Working

It looks like a false alarm.
I use Standby and Hibernate all the time and only shut down perhaps every 2-3 days.
Somehow the desktop Chrome icon function must have got paralysed during the sleep period, because when I eventually did shut the computer down and restarted it, the Chrome icon is now working.
Sorry for the false alarm, but the icon freeze puzzled me. Just re-booting never entered my mind as a solution.

I don't even know how to succinctly summarize this problem so I couldn't even google search it.

Both my PCs run Windows 10 Pro. On one of them, when you click a the Google Chrome taskbar button...the button disappears and becomes a Chrome program instance which you can raise and lower. That one seems to be working normally as that's how it always works for me on windows 10 pro on my various computers.

The other one however, remains static so when I click the Chrome icon....a new instance will open to the right where there were there are no icons, and the Chrome icon will remain in it's spot on the left. The problem is if I'm not careful I'll click the wrong one and I'll have 2 instances of chrome open. This happened several times until I realized why it was happening.

I don't want to Uninstall chrome because I just setup this computer and it was a pain in the neck getting all my content onto chrome. For some reason even tho it's "syncing" to my Chrome account none of the information was there such as autofill and passwords. So I had to get all my content back on there it would be a huge pain uninstalling and losing all that info.

How can I fix this?

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable. Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
Press the Fix button just once and wait.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Just one day after it released an update for the beta version of its open source browser, Google has also pushed one step ahead the Dev Channel flavor of Chrome. As of the start of the past weekend, early adopters have been able to access and download Google Chrome 4.0.302.2. However, unlike the latest Beta release of Chrome, the Dev Channel update has been made available for all three supported platforms Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Google Chrome Beta Build 4.0.249.78 is offered exclusively to testers running the browser on top of Windows, at this point in time, with Mac OS X and Linux variants planned for availability soon.

?The dev channel has been updated to 4.0.302.2 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Windows has been updated to 302.3 to fix the crashes related to issue 32648 on Windows XP,? revealed Anthony Laforge, from the Google Chrome team. ?We now only use our own FTP parsing code; please file bugs if you encounter any problems while navigating FTP sites.?

Users need to understand that the Dev Channel release of Google Chrome is the most advanced version of the browser in terms of the development process. However, the downside to this is the fact that the release comes with inherent problems, some already known, others yet to be discovered. This is precisely the purpose of the testing program, to discover bugs and problems affecting the functionality of the browser.

As far as Windows users are concerned, the mountain View-based search giant... Read more

So I uninstalled Google Chrome from my desktop which runs windows 10 now. However, when I try to install it again (from Google''s own site) it won't really do much; it only says "Downloading" and nothing more, the download-bar doesn't move at all. Tried downloading the "offline-chrome", but it cuts out after the download should be completed - and I'm left with nothing at all on my computer. Any one how anything to throw in to help me out?

Sincerely, one who's tilting

More info:
My internet connection is running 100% and working correctly.
Ran a virus scan with AVG (found nothing).
Deleted Google Chrome through task manager and application and local files.

For a while now, whenever I try to download anything, be it a picture, file, or something from the webstore, it just won't download. With the pictures and files, either they don't show up at the bottom of the page or it opens a blank tab. I've been looking online and trying some solutions that I've found but none of it works.

Please help!

Answer:example: cant download Google Chrome.exe. when i run it

Try Saving the file somewhere rather than Running it (desktop will do). Locate the saved file and double click it - see if that helps. Are you having any similar issues with other programs?Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Answer:Can't download Google Chrome, need help.

Hey,

What browser are you using now? I'm assuming you're trying to download from this site: Chrome Browser ?

1) Try disabling your firewall completely when you're downloading. And I mean turn it off. Ditch that stuff to see if it makes a difference. Something is blocking that download and firewalls are usually the culprit.
2) Change the download location in your browser, maybe the download location it's using is protected. Preferably select your own download location. A folder that should always work is somewhere in My Documents
3) Reboot your pc and try again. That is honestly usually a miracle Windows troubleshooter, though whenever I have an issue and someone tells me to do that, I feel like taking out my bazooka. I'm still saying it though. I've had to fix pcs with issues that hadn't been turned off or rebooted in over 6 months. No joke.
3) Try finding a direct mirror to get the installer in another way, if google's site is not working out for you. I can send you the installer if you want, but then again if I were you I'd not trust some random idiot on the internet, even if she says she's a nice person.
4) Get the installer on another pc, put it on a USBdrive and pop it in your pc. Easiest solutions are often the best, and if you never had this issue before and it's only occurring with your current browser, one can wonder if it's worth your time and effort to fix it completely.

Edit: I know I can't count

In the first week of September, when I heard of Google Chrome, I thought I will give it a go. I went to http://www.google.com/chrome and downloaded the the small installer pack less than 500 kb......i think. Then when I tried to run the installer, it kept on telling me that it is unable to connect to internet.........and could not install...and stopped. This happened on my Laptop running win xp sp3. I have DSL connection and have a router at my home.Laptop connects via a ethernet cable. I went to google's troubleshooting centre and tried each of their suggestions but no help .
I again tried the same installer program on my desktop, also connected to the same router via ethernet, and it connected to internet, downloaded the files and installed and started to work.
Yesterday I found a portable chrome and thought maybe I should try this on my laptop. The portable chrome now tells me that it cannot connect to internet.
It works fine on my desktop.

I use IE7 and firefox3 , without any proxy
I have avira anti virus and windows firewall.
What is happening????

I used Google Chrome for years...Now, I had to uninstall Google Chrome because none of the extensions, themes, etc. would work anymore due to a virus or bug.Using AVG Pro i eliminated all viruses and malware and continued to uninstall Google Chrome. When I try to download and install Chrome for Windows 8.1 it acts as if its downloading the program but ultimately does nothing. I've repeated these steps multiple times in hopes that it miraculously work eventually, and nothing. I've restarted my computer, went through troubleshoots, and have basically done anything I can find to help resolve this strange issue but I still get no resolve. I search for anything chrome related in my computer and there isn't a file that exists or is remotely close, also checking where my supposed download would go. I just want Google Chrome back on my computer because Internet Explorer is hardly up to par. Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:I Cannot Download Google Chrome!

Hi JayRosa It's possible that you still have traces of Google Chrome left on your system and that it's causing this issue. Follow the instructions below please.MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:Flush DNS;Report IE Proxy Settings;Reset IE Proxy Settings;Report FF Proxy Settings;Reset FF Proxy Settings;List content of Hosts;List IP Configuration;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Installed Programs;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. A new release of Google Chrome is now available for download, bringing to the table fixes for a range of problems which survived past the previous development build. The Mountain View-based search giant kicked up a notch the Dev Channel flavor of Chrome, and is offering early adopters Build 5.0.322.2 not only for Windows but also for Mac OS X and Linux. As far as the Windows version of Chrome Build 5.0.322.2 is concerned, testers will be able to notice that the latest copy of the open source browser no longer crashes when a theme points to a nonexistent image, according to Google Chrome?s Karen Grunberg.

I have a windows 10 computer. For the past few days I have had a problem with chrome where shockwave would crash and I couldn't do anything on chrome. I fixed that by updating chrome. Now, I can't download anything. I click the download button and nothing happens. If I can get to the pdf I can click print and then choose "save as pdf" but I don't have the ability to do that with everything I need to download.
I often have to download stuff off blackboard for school. This involves clicking the link that the teacher provides and then a download box is supposed to pop up. It was working fine before I updated.
I tried to download a new browser because I am tired of Chrome not working right but it won't even let me do that.
I have checked, no viruses and no maleware. No conflicting programs.
Please help!!!! I have an online class and really need a working internet browser.

Hi there,

I am having a problem downloading a file in google chrome. The file is actually a setup having a .msi extension (and NOT a typical .exe). Whenever I download the file google chrome changes the file extension to .download. The file downloads as "setup.download". I know how to change the extension of files but thats not the issue. I have tried to download it in other browsers and it works perfectly (ie it downloads as "setup.msi'). But this is actually a cross-browser test im running for a client of mine who wants it compatible across latest browsers.

I tried searching the internet but cant seem to find a solution anywhere. Any solution or even advice is very much appreciated.

cheers

I have recently had some trouble in that the Google Chrome icon on my desktop has had this picture of a blue and yellow shield over it, which is preventing it from running. I say running -- I am able to open the application, but I just get 'loading' with the standard circle going round and round and round in the top left hand corner... Then, after a minute or so, I get the Page(s) Unresponsive message, telling me to kill the chrome application. I spoke to a Microsoft representative who told me to follow some steps to disable user account control settings, however this had no effect. I read on a forum that this could be a malware problem, so I downloaded the free trial of Malwarebytes, only to find that; when this appeared on my desktop, it too had the same blue and yellow shield I mentioned above! These are the only two applications I can see with the shield preventing them from opening.

I'm running on Windows 7.

Any help as to how I can rid of this problem would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a Windows 7 Lenovo laptop that is running very slow.  I ran virus scans, including Malwarebytes that returned zero results.  I have noticed in Task Manager that there are several processes running with a description of "Google Chrome".

The exe file is in the \userprofile\appdata\locallow\Sun\ folder. This exe cannot be deleted since there is a lock on it. Even if I kill the processes from Task Manager, they regenerate faster than I can delete.

Would you please help me with removing this virus?  Thank you.

Answer:Fake Google Chrome processes in Task Manager

Hi. Please do the following:
Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/Note: please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, take a look at this link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/32-bit-or-64-bit-windows/
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hello, I've seen a few topics relating to my problem but wasn't sure if the steps are exactly the same for each person or if they are customized from problem to problem.

I'm running windows 7 and as other users have stated, my computer was running slowly, freezing up periodically and minimizing programs I was using. I checked task manager and at that time I saw many dllhost with description COM surrogate running, and trying to end the processes they just kept appearing again. At that time I had AVG as my antivirus and malwarebytes. Only AVG detected the file but it could not delete it. I then uninstalled AVG and changed my antivirus to Bitdefender and that seemed to have stifled the symptoms although I don't believe it ever fixed the problem. My computer was running smoothly for about a week and now I have a filename uirrvmzweu.exe with description google chrome. My computer symptoms are about the same as they were when the dllhost process was running. They both act very similar as far as I can see.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

The native bookmark manager of the Chrome browser is as basic as it gets. All it enables you to do is to search bookmarks, move them to and from folders, and to delete or edit them.

When you compare that to the Firefox bookmarks manager for example, you will notice that it is far superior. From options to sort bookmarks in multiple ways over extensive editing option to the display of additional information about each bookmark in the interface.

Google has released a new Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that aims to improve the native bookmark manager.

It replaces the bookmarks manager which you notice when you open the bookmarks in the browser. Instead of displaying folders and links only, colorful tiles and other information are displayed by it by default now.

You find search, edit and import/export options at the top now which is an improvement to the native implementation. The search has been improved by Google as it will include information found on the page itself in the search and not only the bookmark title, snippet and url.

The left displays all folders just like before but with options to display subfolders right away or hide them instead.

The location of each bookmark is highlighted by the tile, and drag & drop operations are supported to move bookmarks around. Tiles seem to be placeholder icons. New bookmarks show a thumbnail image of the site in question instead.

The extension adds a star icon to the toolbar that you ca... Read more

Help me make Google Chrome OPEN the Bookmarks Manager.  I have already gone through the menu, Bookmarks, Bookmark manager, but only a blank white page appears.  Nothing else.  The address shown in the browser text bar field is "chrome://bookmarks" .
If the bookmark manager cannot open and show itself, then managing the bookmarks is impossible.  HELP!

I already tried with ABP turned off, and the same problem.

Answer:Google Chrome not letting us open Bookmarks Manager

Note that Google Chrome provides a button next to minimize, maximize and close buttons. This button is used to sign in using the Google account and the browser uses it to manage the bookmarks and other things.
You must sign in using your Google account and then the Bookmark Manager will return to normal.

I had been using AVG & found it adequate. I got this computer in fall 2009 with Windows 7 32-bit on it. Since then, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials. But it never found anything, until this month.Nov 21, I decided to try AVG again. D/Led the 30 day trial version & ran it. It found 4 Trojans in less than an hour. There was a "buy right now" sales pitch - pushy already; I was suspicious. Deleted AVG on 26th.Dec 30, I found right away that my computer is infected with a serious, really active bit of Malware/virus. I don't know its name; it apparently settles into or at least uses a directory in Windows ... C:\\Windows\sysWOW\dllhost.exe is said to be the culprit. MalwareBytes was continuously blocking "ads," I guess they are, generated by dllhost.exe? Try as I may, I've not been able to do anything about it.(Update: I bought & used Malwarebytes in 2014, March thru July I think. It used a lot of CPU while running. Slowed me down. I thoughtlessly deleted it ... at least, I think I did.)The very frequent message that Malwarebytes is blocking outgoing "stuff" must have been generated by the virus itself, as MWB wasn't on here at that time. Hi,

I noticed a few days ago that my computer was running slow.  I opened the task manager and noticed that the dllhost.exe*32 was in my Task manager over 20 times.  I ran my antivirus and nothing came up, I have both Malware, and Comodo.  I read through some removal logs and found one that was the same issue as mine basically.  I downloaded the Farber Recovery Scan Tool.  At first, I didn't read ALL the way through it and ended up downloading someone else's fixlist.txt that was part of a reply.  At the time I just figured it was a blanket fix for everyone, didn't realize it was for that specific computer.  So I pressed fix and it seemed to work......temporarily.  I also deleted Chrome but it still pops up in my Task Manager although I don't have the program.

So...now I have read more and am going to do this the right way.  I ran a new scan and am including it in the post.  Hopefully someone can help me fix the problem.  I really appreciate all the help.

I have a HP Pavillion dm4, 64 bit, running Windows 7 Home Premium

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much,

Hi guys, I've searched for this but couldn't find the solution. The problem is that after a few minutes...like 20 or so. The download on my Windows 7 stops working...Take a look at the picture.

It says connecting and the lights on the modem start blinking as if it is downloading but it doesn't. I can still browse websites but can't download even in Opera, Mozilla or IE. I've been using Spybot and KIS for 4 years now, so I don't think there is a problem of virus or malware. Please help!

Answer:Download stops working in Windows7, Internet Download Manager, Everywhere

Guys, I've updated KIS to 2010 and I think it is the problem as I exited the application and then started the download on IDMan. It started to work. But why KIS is doing this. Is there any settings problem with the firewall?? The problem still continues with KIS turned on.!!!!

This problems has started to turn me away from Google Chrome... I want to open something without downloading(saving) but it doesn't give me the option to open it just the option to save it. All the other Browser have the option to Open it without saving it, I don't want get rid of Google Chrome cause it my favourite browser, Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Google Chrome: Download Problem

There is discussion on this going back years on the Google forums I see. One posted had a semi workaround:

Quote:
As other posters have stated, temp files are created for downloads, but you don't have to download every attachment every time. You only have to download each file type ONCE before being able to choose to open it, rather than download.

E.g. Download a *.ppt file and then in the download box, click the 'down' arrow and choose "Always Open files of this type" and the next time you download a *.ppt file, it will open with your default PowerPoint program, WITHOUT downloading it other than to a temporary file. They won't then fill up your Downloads or any other hard drive folders

If you change your mind later, go to the 'Customize and Control ...' icon and select OPTIONS/UNDER THE HOOD/SECURITY and SELECT clear the settings. Unfortunately, this clears all the 'auto-open' permissions.

The drawback being that the files stay in your download folder. Another poster mentioned he then adds that folder to CCleaner, and has it clean it.

A new build of the next version of Google?s open source browser is now available for download for early adopters. The release is mainly focused on fixing issues that survived past the previous build, v 5.0.360.4, offered at the end of the past month. At the same time, Anthony Laforge, from the Google Chrome team, indicates that Chrome 5.0.366.2 brings to the table an important change related to WebGL. Essentially, Google has tweaked its open source browser in order to improve the security by making WebGL run sandboxed.

Its nice that you don't need to break the security sandbox for WebGL now. But I still can't run WebGL on Windows because of no OpenGL drivers

Hopefully the ANGLE project fixes that.

I have installed both Download Accelerator (DAP) and Orbit Downloader and have already set the configuration to integrate with Google Chrome, but when I click on a link to download for instance an MP3 file both download softwares weren't able to catch the link, so instead of downloading with either DAP or Orbiter I can only download it with the regular Google Chrome browser.
So what's the problem here? Could Google Chrome be not compatible with either DAP or Orbiter? Or do I have to install some kind of Plugin with Google Chrome?
Also Google Chrome has also a problem in loading Friendster.

If anyone can assist, Thanks!

So yeah, the case is that Chrome fails on every and any single file that I try to download.
I'm being told that the anti-virus scan failed and so I found some turorial on how to update the registry in Windows (I run 8.1) in order to make the virus scan work after a download is completed. This did not work. I already tried to run CCleaner to fix registry issues, I ran Malwarebytes on a full scan and I also re-installed Chrome to no change. I have checked that I am fully able to download files in Windows Explorer 10 just as expected, so it would seem that it's something with Chrome and I was advised to look at the .temp folder's size but it was completely empty and I also have lots of free harddrive space.

Any suggestions?

If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. I've been using IDM (6.25 build 3 most recently) happily for quite some time. For Christmas I purchased an online class which streams (?) from a .com website. I paid $128 for the class which remains online. Although I can view it anytime, I'd like to have it on my hard drive so I can put it on my laptop and watch it in bed instead of sitting at my desktop computer. Also I've purchased classes in the past and the website went out of business and *poof* my purchased classes went with them!!

When I use IDM to download the .flv file and play it back using Windows media player, I only get audio...no video.

Can anyone suggest:
-- what's going wrong?
-- a solution
-- another program I can use?

Thanks for the assist!
LuniLadi

Answer:Internet Download Manager Plays Only Audio For .flv Download

IDM is currently at 6.25 build 12. IDM only downloads files it doesn't play them. That's the job of your media player. An alternate media player you might try is VLC available at Major Geeks.

Download Google Chrome 4.0 Beta - 400% More Performance over v1.0
Version 4.0.223.16 is Windows only

A new release of Google Chrome 4.0 is now available for download, full build string 4.0.223.16. Loyal to a Cloud-tailored mantra of simplicity and performance, Google has kicked up a notch its open source browser, revealing the first Beta development milestone of version 4.0. Ahead of the November 2nd launch of Google Chrome 4.0 Beta, version 4.0 was offered exclusively through the Mountain View search giant?s developer channel. This is no longer the case. With the unveiling of the Beta Build 4.0.223.16, Google is now offering Chrome 4.0 to the public.

However, not all users will be able to install the release. Version 4.0.223.16 is Windows only, Google informed, giving no indications as to any future plans to offer Chrome 4.0 for users of Linux and Mac OS X platforms as well. In this regard, early adopters looking to start test driving Google Chrome 4.0 Beta will need to do it on Windows XP SP2, and SP3, Vista RTM/SP1/SP2 and Windows 7.

?The Beta Channel is being updated to 4.0.223.16 which is our first Beta release for 4.0. This release includes many bug fixes and for the first time Bookmark Sync is enabled. Extensions are disabled until the final API changes arrive. Please use the dev channel for the latest extension API,? revealed Jonathan Conradt, Engineering Program Manager.

Hi, I just purchased this new HP laptop TODAY -- and have been trying to download Google Chrome and set Google as my homepage because I have been working with Google products for the last 5 years and it is my preference. However, in the first instance, I get a message saying I can't download Google Chrome, even though I've verified the download is for Windows 8.1, then it also triggered a virus infection and caused the security software to do a threat scan -- three times!!  In trying to simply set Google as my homepage, when I click on the actual 'set up' button, the screen simply freezes.  It's almost as if Yahoo / HP is not allowing me to choose my Browser and search engine....does anyone know how to fix this??   I've never had this happen before. Thanks!!!

Answer:Unable to download Google Chrome on Windows 8.1 / new HP lap...

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. In this particular case, neither HP nor Yahoo prevent the computer from getting Chrome browser. Especially when you mentioned that the security software triggered an alarm, this means that most probably you tried to download a fake copy of the Chrome browser and thanks God the security software prevented it from installing. It is quite common nowadays because this is popular software and fake copies do exist. Sometimes they appear on top of search result in search engines and they do not lead to the official vendor's site but some other server.  Additionally, if this is not the case, your computer might also have already been infected by some pest which redirected your traffic to fake Chrome.  There is only one official place to download this product - Google official site/sub-site Click here  =>  https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html   and  choose Download Chrome blue button in the middle of the page Follow the on screen instructions. Some additional instructions from Google ->  https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en   Here are some other instructions how to set up home page in Internet Explorer http://blog.laptopmag.com/set-blank-browser-home-page For Google, instead of blank page, you need to enter www.google.com  as the page address http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/cha...
