I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Recover Deleted Windows 7 Recovery Files from Recovery Drive

You might be able to use a free recovery tool like Recuva or MiniTool Partition Wizard. But there are no guarantees that all deleted files will be recovered or that they will be in a usable condition.

It may be safer to contact HP support and buy a set of recovery disks for your particular machine. I'm taking a guess that you are in India?

After experiencing an error with windows, it wouldn't start up and said I was missing the hal.dll files, I fired up the windows recovery program. It worked like a charm, replaced windows and the hal.dll file, however all my folders with docs and pictures on the desktop that were there previously (which accumulated over years) were not there anymore. Is there any way to recover these missing folder and files? They weren't saved on the c: directly but only on the desktop. I tried system restore but it said there were no system recovery points I could recover from.
Does windows make a backup of these desktop files before it deletes them?
Please help anyone, thanks!

Answer:System recovery for xp deleted my personal files on desktop, can I recover them?

If the computer hasn't been used much since the recovery most of your files will be intact.

The tricky bit is getting them back. The only real way to retrieve your data is to remove the hard drive, plug it into another computer as a second drive and run a piece if recovery software over it.

The first two links are to free recovery software, the third is paid for - this one does work very well.

Pls help !!! I have HP's dv5 laptop (Windows Vista 64 bit) and I accidently deleted the "Recovery Folder/File" from D and also from the Recycle bin to gain more storage space.
The disk space still shows high, even after deletion. I had made recovery disks when I first started using this new laptop.
I learnt lately (after deletion) that the ‘Recovery File/Folder’ should not be deleted from D drive. As such my machine is perfectly all right.
My concern is now that should I use the Recovery Discs to restore the system? If I do that, will it take the system to Factory settings? What if I don’t restore the deleted file? The Drive D is visible when I open the drives from “Computer” but I don’t see the D Drive from “HP Care”. I have few other files stored in D Drive but the disk free space is still very low. I could see once more file Program (x86) in Drive D. Also when I tried to perform Disk Clean-up for the D Drive, it was unsuccessful, notifying that the drive is in operation. After deletion of the "Recovery Folder/File", I have made several updates from Windows & HP updates.
What shall I do now – Pls advise. Many Thanks !!!

Ok so I apologize in advance if this story is a bit long, and horrifying (actually it's probably entertaining xD). I purchased the Lenovo y510p gaming laptop on back on July 14th 2014. I got the laptop, and it just didn't work for me. It didn't play the games I wanted it to, it had overheating issues, the keyboard had a really sharp edge making typing uncomfortable as well. After installing Sony Vegas and Avast, and just shifting some of my personal photos/music over, I made a backup of the laptop using the OneKey Recovery software. This backup was made to one of my 500GB external hard drives. So I then decided that I just didn't like the laptop, and it was time to return it. I called Newegg, and got my RMA all ready to go. Because I had lot of my personal files and programs, I decided the fastest way to delete everything would be to use the OneKey Recovery by Lenovo, and do a factory reset. At the time, I didn't think anything of this then simply putting the laptop back to exactly how I got it. I even booted it up after the factory reset, and it looked just like the first day I got it. Fast forward 2 weeks, and my RMA is denied from Newegg:   Your RMA (RMA Number: 60470880) return was received and sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. 34-313-740 NB LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510P 59406636 RTSystem has been modified/altered original manufacturers operating system has been removed cannot access restore partition, this voids Newegg w... Answer:How to recover deleted "Recovery Partition"

If you only used One Key Recovery by Lenovo, it should not delete the partition. (I hope you did not format the whole system) Once you receive the laptop, you can check if this partition still exists in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management. It should show some drives, other than the C: , D: and the SSD (if you have). Those drives are the recovery partitions. I can post a sample screenshot in the evening. Sadly, I do not know any way to recover that partition. As I have seen on this forum several people who lost that partition could not roll back their laptop to original settings without a recovery drive (which is different from a recovery backup).

My Acer Aspire A7600U-UR24 came with windows 8. I made a recovery drive by choosing "create recovery drive" in windows 8. After making the drive i installed windows 8.1 from DVD. Some time later I tried to restore it back to factory with my recovery usb. Every time I try I get "windows cannot find a system image on this computer" even though my flash drive is plugged in. I tried booting from the drive, doesn't seem to work. Not sure if my windows 8.1 version not being activated has anything to do with it (I installed 8.1 on 2 computers from the same dvd didn't realize i couldn't do that) . but I think I should still be able to boot from the drive. I need help.

I was thinking if the problem is my flash drive, can I somehow transfer the system image from one flash drive to another?

here's the screens:

at this point there should be an option for windows 8 but there's not.

Answer:my windows 8 recovery drive not found. trying to recover

If I understand correctly you created a USB Recovery Drive when you had Windows 8. It only contains files that help recover Window 8 in the event of a problem, it will not contain the factory recovery partition. It is of no value now since you tried to install Windows 8.1 by DVD. Was it an update version or upgrade to Pro?

Should you wish to return to Windows 8 OEM you must use the recovery partition process as outlined by Acer to reset to Factory Conditions. Hopefully the recovery partition was not corrupted when to tried to go to Windows 8.1. If it was, you will have to order Recovery Disks from Acer for a nominal charge.

I deleted a few files like a year ago.. i placed them in the program files of other software in C: . Eventually when i uninstalled that software the folder was gone. Is it possible to recover it in anyway??

Answer:Recover deleted file without recovery softwares in windows7

A year ago is a very long time. Most likely Windows has long since over written that area of the disk to a point that anything that you would get would be very incomplete and unuseable.

Hello,
I am using a HP notebook with Windows 8.1. When I purchased the laptop the D drive was set aside for 17gb worth of recovery files. I was attempting to re-partition the harddrive so as to be able to save things to a place other than the main C drive. I hold only base computer knowledge and managed to delete the only visible file within the D drive. I am unsure the name of the file. The file was roughly 230mb so the rest of hidden files remain. My question is as follows.

Is the inability to do a system restore or recovery important?

If so, will I be able to restore my computer at this point?

If not, how can I replace the file in order to do so?

If unable, would a fresh installation of Windows fix my error?

I do not have ready access to the Windows installation discs and codes/keys required so this would be the last resort hopefully. I don't know enough about this subject to even ask another intelligent question (or rather an intelligent question). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan

Answer:How to recover files before using recovery disk?

Hello

In my opinion the easiest way is you remove the HDD of your notebook and put it into an external HDD case. Then you can connect this external HDD now to another computer and have access to files on your HDD and you can make a backup.

Alternative you can boot from a Linux Live CD and backup your files on another USB devices.

I recently (yesterday) had an issue where my PC green screened and then wouldn't boot windows. After running several diagnostics to make sure it wasn't hardware related I decided to reinstall windows, problem, I have several important documents and media files on my hard-drive that aren't backed up yet (stupid I know), however, this isn't a problem as hp recovery manager presents me with the option to back up my files before I reset, brilliant. I create the backup media, then reset. After boot up everything runs smoothly until I try to use the media backup I created, Hp recovery manager says it can't run a media recovery as it's no longer supported after windows upgraded. My PC came installed with windows 10, I created the backup with the same version, literally everything is the same. For some reason I can't recover my data despite the fact that its sitting on my external hard-drive (in the hp back up format). Please help, if I'd known there was an issue I'd have removed the hard-drive and had my data recovered.

Hello,
I'm a mainframe person with some windows experience, but I am an Ubuntu/Linux virgin.

I was aked by a relative to see if I could sort out a Toshiba NB100 11R with Ubuntu remix loaded. The touchpad was no longer working.

I assumed it was a driver problem, so found my way to the drivers. I couldn't get any further, it was password protected. The relatives didn't know the password or even that a password had been set.

As they had the recovery disk and I had an external dvd drive, I decided to do a full recovery.
The recovery failed.

When I tried to boot the NB100, I got a GRUB error 2.

I tried the recover disk again, this time I got error 20107, I can't find this documented anywhere.

I also managed to get a boot menu at one point, which gave me the option of booting Ubuntu, or recovering. I chose the recover option, this failed with "cannot open root device SDA2 or unknown block".

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition and tried to boot the NB100, this failed with a multitude of read errors.

I re-booted with the Ubuntu 10.04 netbook, this time it worked. I chose the try Ubuntu option. Ubuntu loaded.

So that's where I am at the moment, I've managed to load Ubuntu running from the DVD drive. The NB100 hard drive seems to be ok. The touch pad is working. I can't recover from the dvd drive or the boot recovery option.

As I said I'm an Ubuntu virgin, I don't know what to do from here.

What I want to do is recover to factory cond... Read more

Answer:Unable to recover NB100 from recovery cd or boot recovery option.

Well.. It seems the recovery files related to Ubuntu in the "FileSystem" are damaged. And the GRUB loader is severely damaged as well. Error 20107 means that the recovery can no longer be initiated. That error happened to me before but when I tried to recover my database on MySQL. I don't know how is this related.

Anyway, since you can access the partitions from the Live CD, If I were you, you can get an External Hard Disk and backup all the data onto that Drive. And Install a new version of the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 that you've downloaded . You can Install it from the Favorites when you boot from the DVD by "Install Ubuntu Netbook Edition". When it comes to partitioning, Choose the option to Erase all the Hard disk. That will install a new system with new GRUB loader as well but Erasing all the data on the netbook hard drive. From this point you can start the recovery from the Recovery Disc. I know this is a long solution. But to be sure if the problem is from the recovery CD or the system itself.

But one question, Does your NB100 come with an Ubuntu Recovery Disk ? Toshiba notebooks always have problems with Linux Based OSes :S

If you need more help, I am here. I worked with Linux systems for about 2 years but not as much as Windows ofc.

don't know if this is the correct place to post this..but i run XP sp3 so figured it was a good as any.

i have accidently deleted a whole bunch of various files to the tune of 80 some odd GB from my portable hard drive.
Word Perfect, Word 2000, Excel 2000, jpg, tif, gif, pdf,

i have used recuva, diskdigger, glary undelete and free undelete so far.
when they said the file was in excellent or recoverable, i selected those ones.

but when i tried to open word perfect or excel they would not open.
most of the files that wouldn't open had Dl or D| preceding the sector number or name of file.

my question is....is there a way around this to open these files or are they really not recoverable even tho
the indication was that the file was in good shape.

i have read about various repair softwares, i tried one for word perfect and one for pdf. neither worked.

hope someone can give me some help.
thnx

Answer:Deleted files recovery

Chances are that something has written over the top of them by now. If you want to recover files, you should stop using the drive as soon as possible so that no more files get overwritten. You should then scan the drive by connecting it to another computer, or by using a boot CD or USB stick with recovery tools on it.
Parted Magic disk partitioning, PC repair, and file recovery tool (Bootable CD or USB image)
If you prefer a bootable USB key, download and run Linux Live USB Creator. Choose the Parted Magic distro, and it will download it and automatically create a bootable USB key.

Dear friends and experts. I bought my Lenovo C3000-C100 a couple of years ago. I did make the recovery DVD, then I copy all files from the recovery partition (the whole ibm_service directory). And I deleted that partition to make more room.  Recently my laptop was infected with virus and I could not find the recovery DVD, but I still have the USB disk with all the files from ibm_service directory and I can boot my laptop with the Hiren boot CD and access them from the external USB disk. By the way, I started Hiden as mini Windows XP environment Do you think I can somehow run the recovery program from those files? If it is possible, how I can proceed? Thank you very much.

Hi, anyone know of a program that will data recover MPEG-2 movies that were accidentally removed from my Recycle Bin? I have tried several programs, including Recover My Files, GetDataBack, Stellar Phoenix - one found no files, the other found 1300 files (where there should only be about 10), and the other found the right amount, but the files themselves were absolutely huge, so it must have merged the missing MPEG-2s to some of the other movies that weren't deleted.

Can anyone please suggest a way out of this, either by naming a program that can recover MPEG-2s, or a setting that I need change on one of the progs that I've already tried?

Generally not easy.... but there are some software programs that offer to recover data-- You can try using a knoppix live cd--- You download the file (freeware), and save thw iso file, then use your burning software to burn to cd - then run it live from the cd, and it is sometimes possible to copy the files ( they are still on the disc, just not accessable, without outside influence, like this.

I recently deleted HDD Recovery files off the second partioned hard drive on my laptop so I could merge it into one hardrive.
Upon doing so I realised HDDRecovery may important.

However I am a bit confused if you backed this up to DVD/CD which I have done anyway is this the same utility?

So therefore I would have nothing to worry about?

Answer:Worried about deleted HDD Recovery files

Hi

The HDD recovery was a useful option which would allow you to recovery the notebook without the usage of the Recovery DVD.
You could simply recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.

But now this will not be possible because you have changed, deleted the HDD partition and therefore you could use only the recovery disk.

I think it will not help to copy the HDD recovery files to the new partition because the previous HDD recovery contained some hidden signs and flags which pointed to the HDD recovery settings?

Hello all, I have a Satellite L675. In the recovery wizard, there is an option for "Erasing the internal hard drive". According to the user manual, I am given the following warning: "Erasing the internal storage drive will delete all data on the drive, including the partitions",

Will this recovery wizard option actually delete the hidden recovery partitions (sda1 and sda3), wiping the entire hard drive, or just the user-created partitions (sda2, AKA C

Thanks for clarification on this.

Hi everyone,

I'm stuck in a pretty bad situation right now and I have no idea about how to help myself..So recently I've been wanting to 'reset' my Windows 8.1 laptop, & I just cannot because my recovery environment is missing..
First when I got this problem I thought there would be an easy-intermediate level fix like every other problem. (and I love fixing stuff.)

But this one doesn't look like an easy fix or I'm not even sure If there is a fix. So the big mistake I did was, I deleted my "System Recovery Partition".

I have searched everywhere possible and I'm not getting a fix.. I would really appreciate IF YOU GUYS HELP ME!
and another problem is that I don't live in the USA or Canada.I've got a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, 8GB RAM, intel i5 3317u.

and Dell provides Backup Media to only the people who live in the US and Canada. Please guys, I need a solution.

I have a separate Windows 8.1 Installation Disk, but what I'm scared about is If I install my Windows from the disk, my Dell features would be gone and I don't think I'd be able to have a proper Recovery Environment in the future because this Disk's installation files are nothing related to Dell. Its just a clean Windows installation disk I got from my friend a while ago. I've tried the repair my computer option from the disk and it does not help...

Thank you

I recently download a backup program that deleted everything off my external hard drive. There is now basically nothing on my external, so I doubt any data was overwritten. I have a Western Digital 800BB External USB 2 with FAT32. I've tried almost every program I can get a freeware/trial version of and haven't had any luck. A few of them have shown me some of the files I am interested in but are missing quite a few I want. I've also tried restoring a few .avi files that did show up and all I get is a bunch of my mp3 files oddly strung together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to have lost an entire folder from my personal flash drive containing all of my household budget/income/finances information!

I plug this USB drive mostly into my computer at work, which is on a huge network and very protected by our IT department, meaning I don't have administrator priveleges on the machine/can't install anything and probably can't recover anything.

I hesitate to ask for our IT department's help becuase they are... uh... not very helpful even when it's work-related. :-(

Where could my files have gone??!! They are not in my deleted folder. Can I get them back??

Help!!!

Answer:Solved: How do you recover files deleted from a flash drive?

You'll probably need to install some data recovery software. If this is your personal drive then you can do the recovery at home where you should be able to install software to run a recovery.

Answer:Can I Recover Files Deleted On a External Hard Drive?

Hi

You should be able too, so long as you have not been saving more files to that exHDD as the more files you save the less likely it is that you will recover what you want, as you delete a file its flagged up as an empty block to the OS but the data is still their (caveat to this is if you use secure deletion apps) so can be recovered, that is until the data block is needed.

So try the following apps

Recuva
PC Inspector File Recovery

Do remember not to save the recovered filed to your external drive during recovery, save them to your C Drive.

If you are using the likes of Vista or Windows 7 then try right clicking the folder or drive the deleted folder was in and choose Properties > Previous Versions tab and look to see for a backup of before the folder was deleted and then double click that date to open then navigate to the folder you need and rigth click copy and paste to your desktop.

Pervious Versions is good tool but doesnt always work in XP or for external drives but worth a try.

Not with certainty. It's hit and miss. Don't count on it.

"Deleting" in effect removes the file from the drive's "index" so it can't be found by standard means.

Specialized software may still be able to locate and recover the file if that space on the hard drive has not actually been overwritten and occupied by another file.

Recuva and GetDataBack are two such programs.

Some free software will tell you if the file can be recovered, but may make you pay to actually recover it.

The original file name may be lost.

Then there are professional data recovery services that examine the drive in a laboratory for a high fee--$1000 or more. Such services may have a higher degree of success.

I've fiddled with the free software a few times, but never had much luck.

So as soon as I got my brand new Y50-70, and before doing anything on this laptop (not even installing new software), I went tried OneKey Recovery only to discover that it is broken. I then tried my luck with Windows Recovery (the one provided with every Windows 8.1 copy, not unique to Lenovo): I first went through system image creation on a recovery drive (1TB WD Elements USB HDD): 1. Find it on Control Panel: 2: Select it (Recovery option):3. Create a recovery drive:  4.  Selected the F: drive (1TB, it's not a *flash* drive just an ordinary USB hdd, does it matter?): 5. Got a nice warning (indeed, this process reformatted the drive, to 32GB only, why 32GB and not the full 1TB?)  Now... let's see if I can restore from this newly created system image: 1. Rebooted from the newly created Recovery Drive (it actually boots!): 2. Selected "Use a device", then received this menu: 3. I selected EFI USB Device. It then went to an intermediate Lenovo boot splash: 4. And shortly after that (without me doing anything) a new prompt, to choose a language: 5. I selected English and then, got prompted for keyboard layout: 6. The system then system to restart again from the Recovery Drive, only to prompt me again with the "Choose an Option" screen (as in step #1). So, I selected "Troubleshoot" this time: 7. I then selected "Advanced options", and received this screen: 8. I then selected S... Read more

The reason that the Windows recovery program could not find a backup image is that you did not make one. What you have made is a recovery drive. What you should do is click "System Image Backup" located at the bottom left portion of the File History menu.

As for recover programs, we have used Easeus Data Recovery before which has worked well.

Also, I have moved your thread to another area on the forum as its not a network issue.

Hi Folks!  I have an XPS 8500 which was running a fully updated version of Windows 8.1.  Using Dell Backup and Recovery 1.6.1.1 (free edition) I created a Factory Backup of Recovery Media to DVD.  So far so good.
So now the hard drive failed and I've installed its replacement.  I boot off the Recovery Media but there are NO OPTIONS to recover that actually work.  On the initial screen I get: Troubleshoot or Turn off your PC.
So I choose Troubleshoot.  I'm then presented with: Refresh, Reset, Advanced Options, and Command Prompt.  Refresh says the drive is locked and to unlock it first (huh?).  If I choose a "Reset" I'm presented with a seemingly related issue, "Unable to Reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."
Why isn't there a "Press this stupid button and we'll reinstall everything off the Recovery Media you created"?  This seems totally absurd.  Am I losing my mind?
Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Assuming that the harddrive integrity is still ok , you may simply proceed to a clean installation of windows if other repair option would not work .

Copy of  the recovery image can be ordered at tech support for your OS version specific to your pc along with the preset drivers needed . Do you stillo recall the windows version you had originally?

Alternate option is to get your ISO similar to the original Windows version that came with your pc .

Hello, hope I come to the right place! Honestly, my Toshiba flash drive has been used for saving some videos, photos and files for several years. But, last night, I just formatted it by mistake and lost all my stored information. Honestly, I did have another copy of these files on my computer, but, some of the newly edited videos and several school documents have not been backed up yet. Is there any data recovery software that can help me take them all back? I did have searched a lot of the related problems over the internet and all of them recommend me to apply the related data recovery tools. But, I am not sure whether the related data recovery tool is really necessary? Do you have any similar experience? What am I supposed to do now? Thanks!

Hi folks - I've just had a frustrating moment trying to make a Recovery Media set on my new T450.  I followed the prompts using Lenovo's "Factory Recovery Discs" program.  When prompted, I inserted a USB drive, expecting the program to tell me at some point what capacity was needed, but it never did.  So after only one or two quick optionless prompts, it began creating the media on the USB.  Quickly it stopped, and gave a message saying that the capacity of the drive was insufficient (while still not saying what size was necessary), and gave me only one option:  Delete Recovery Partition and restore drive to normal functionality - or something very close to that wording.  So I clicked OK, assuming it was referring to the USB drive - because why would a user want to delete the factory Recovery Partition at this point?  But that's exactly what it did.So now I have no Recovery Partition (formerly the Q: drive), and I can't tell if that space is still allocated (but unavailable to me), but I suspect that's the case.  I've attached below, a screenshot of what I see in Drive Management now.I'm frustrated that with one click on a poorly-worded message, in the process of creating Recovery Media, I was given the option (and only the option), to delete the Recovery Partition itself!  Mind-smoking. Any options for restoring that data, short of sending my new PC back to Newegg or Lenovo?  I suspect it's only logically deleted, (if I ... Hi,
Just upgraded my new Inspiron do Windows 10.  Eveyrhing is now up-to-date (Windows updates, drivers, Dell updates, etc...).

Windows 10 has the ability to create a "Recovery USB Drive"... as well as the Dell Backup & Recovery application.  Which one should we choose ?... can they both be used to fully reinstall Windows 10 on a brand new disk drive ?  Is the USB recovery drive created with the Dell Backup & Recovery app is the same as the one created with Windows 10, except with a few more Dell applications ?

Oh and one last thing... let say in more than one year my hard drive crashes and I have to completely reinstall Windows 10, will I have to pay for it (since the 1 year free upgrade from Microsoft will have expired) or will I be able to reinstall and activate it ?

Thanks guys !

Answer:Dell Factory Recovery vs Windows 10 Recovery Drive

You'll need to use the windows 10 recovery, if what you want to do is restore windows 10. As for reinstall after 1 year, you won't have to pay anything, as your computer is activated under your Microsoft account.

Hello.

Windows 8 overs the option to write a Recovery on USB drive for Reset,Restore etc.
Toshiba comes with the Recovery media Creator .

Is there any difference between those two ? Do i need to do the Recovery that windows 8 provides
but also use Toshibas software to create the Recovery disks ?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Toshiba recovery Creator VS Windows Recovery Drive

Every Toshiba notebook offered with preinstalled operating system is preinstalled with Toshiba recovery image. This recovery image is created by Toshiba and it is created for certain notebook model.
With other words created recovery image is created for each notebook model with specific hardware platform. Such recovery image contains operating system, all necessary drivers for certain platform and Toshiba specific tools and utilities.

This recovery image is saved on HDD. Using preinstalled Toshiba recovery creator you will create bootable recovery media and using this media you will be able to install this recovery image on HDD. After recovery media installation you will have ?factory settings? again.
This recovery media can be used if there is some problem to start HDD recovery installation, in case when HDD is defective and you need new one or if you make HDD upgrade.

This recovery image has nothing to do with any Windows option. It is Toshiba specific solution for notebook owners.

Hello there!

I'm new in the new type of slipstreaming Windows. I was familiar with the old one with Norton ghost. It was easy for me, but I have a problem with the new one. I want to recover only C drive on my laptop with a different size than the factory size.

I want to delete the first partition and rearrange others because I want bigger partition for my data and small Partition for my system. Can I boot program with CD then insert Toshiba recovery disk and use the Vista image on recovery DVDs to recover only C drive?

Excuse me for my English. :-)

Hello

At first I must say that your English is very good and understandable. ;)

Back to recovery question. I agree with you. With old Norton ghost recovery image it was possible to install OS on one partition only. Unfortunately with recovery media that you can create with your Satellite A300 something like this is not possible.

I recently deleted my recovery partition that is included with HP pcs. I'm now left with 5gb of unused harddrive space, which isn't formatted (I think). I used it to store some random files but didn't like how it worked, and it's now empty again. My question is, will it pose a security threat, and is there anyway I can combine that partition with my main one? Here's a screenshot of it:http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/8308/driveview7ta.pngThanks .

Answer:Deleted My Hp Recovery Drive Partition

An spare partition is in now way any kind of threat. Since you working partition is 106GB then adding another 5GB won't add that much capacity percentage-wise. You would be much better off resizing the partitions so that the OS partition, volume C:, is 20GB in size and the rest of the drive is devoted to a partition used just for storing data files. This way when (not if) you need to reinstall the OS your data files in the other partition will be unaffected and waiting for you there.

I can reccommend Partition Magic as a great tool for creating and resizing partition in Windows without losing any data.

You will need to beg, borrow, buy or steal an XP installation CD in order to reinstall the OS when (not if) the time comes.

I don't know if this question has ever been asked.

I want to know if anyone knows of a piece of software or a way to clean deleted file entries from directories permanently.

I'm asking because I have downloaded a few freeware and shareware programs and tested them for recovering deleted files. I did get one of them to work and recover the deleted files but the problem is it takes so long to scan the drive and it displays so many results it takes forever to search through them for the files I actually want to recover. So what I want to do is run some software that will clear all deleted file entries from my directory listings permanently (zero them out or something.) This way the next time I have to recover a deleted file the list will be much shorter after scanning the drive.

I have Windows XP Pro installed and have 2 physical drives with a total of 3 partitions. The first drive is formatted with 2 NTFS partitions and the 2nd drive is formatted with 1 FAT32 partition (moved this drive with a lot of data from another PC and don't want to bother reformatting to NTFS.)

Anyways the last time I scanned the E drive (FAT32 - 80GB) it took about ten minutes to scan the drive for recoverable files and listed som 50,000 - 60,000 files that could be possibly be recovered. Even using filters to limit the list I came up with 27,000 JPG files (as I was trying to recover about a dozen JPGs I accidentally deleted.) I was able to find them without an incredible amount of di... Read more

Hi ! I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad P580. I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully. Then, some days later, I wanted to do it again, but I added a lot of files, so it didn't work because the backup wouldn't have enough space. I didn't realized that the D: disk only purpose was to content the factory settings (or near them), but nothing more. I put the drivers and the applications (but not the backup) from the D: disk on a DVD, and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space...Now that I realized the D: drisk was only there to store factory settings, I'd like to get the original backup back to have at least a D: partitition useful for something in case of emergencies... Otherwise, it's useless and I could merge it with C:, and do backups with an exeternal disk, but I'd like to avoid doing that...

I wanted to free some space.''' Did you wipe just the D: or ...? To get your system back to factory settings (?nitial state, just as it was the day you bought it) please double cklick the One Key Recovery(OKR) ?con on the desktop click on 'System Recovery' A notice will pop up asking you 'Do you want to reboot your computer into the System Recovery Environment' Click Yes and then just follow instructions. When it's done evrything that should be there, will be(hopefully anyway).. Do let us know what happens.

Answer:[G510] Recovery partition deleted and no Recovery ...

hi izadfard

Welcome to the Forums.

If you didn't create a recovery drive (using this method) then I recommend you contact lenovo on how to obtain a copy of the recovery disc which restores the preloaded Win8 OS, drivers, and apps.

Alternatively, if the machine came preloaded Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you can try the following:

For Windows 8:
1. Obtain a Windows 8 installation disc and use it to reinstall Windows (if the system is preloaded with Windows 8, the installation will automatically detect the Win8 product key in the UEFI Firmware / BIOS and will automatically activate Windows).
2. From here, you can obtain the drivers from the G510 drivers page and/or upgrade to Windows 8.1 via the Windows Store (see this guide)

For Windows 8.1:
1. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
2. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD or USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
3. If successful, obtain the drivers from the G510 drivers page

You can't. Recovery partitions are generally full and that is not a problem. It won't cause you any problems that you deleted it but you just won't be able to restore your computer back to factory state without ordering a set of recovery discs from HP.

When I attempt to create a recovery drive, I receive the message, "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing."

I found a suggestion to enter the following at an Administrator command prompt:

reagentc /disable

reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddiskX\partitionX\Recovery\WindowsRE

reagentc /enable

... where X is the number of the C drive, and the partition number of the system setup. Now for me, it is harddisk0 and partition2 because I have an EFI partition at the start of my system disk. However, when I execute

reagentc /setreimage /path \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE

I receive the message, "REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image cannot be stored in the specified volume. Use the RETAIN command in DISKPART to prepare the volume and try again."
Before I do try using the RETAIN command in DISKPART, is this actually likely to fix my issue or cause me more problems? Is there another easier way to go about creating a recovery drive in the first place?

After experiencing this, I have to say that it is little wonder that very few people have bothered to create a recovery drive for their Windows PC. It can obviously be a lengthy, complex process involving the command prompt, etc.

Thanks for any info.

You can create a Clone Image of your computer and save it to a USB HDD using Macrium Reflect.

I have been trying to create a Windows 10 recovery drive with Back up system files to the recovery drive checked. When I first tried, it would fail giving me the message  "We can't create a recovery drive" with the added info "A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive".

Then I did a clean boot. It got a little farther and started writing to the USB drive but got stuck at maybe 15%. It failed and said some files are missing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series 7559 laptop with 2 hard drives. A 128 gb ssd where Windows is install and a 1 tb data drive. The main drive has 4 partitions: 100 mb - System, 16 mb MSR, 118 GB - Windows C: and 450 mb - Windows RE Tools partiton. The data drive is D:.

The SSD is GPT and the data drive is MBR.

I think it may have something to do with it not being able to find winre.wim. Could the problem be with the bcd file winre reference. Could that be why creating the usb fails?

When it fails, the usb has the following folders: boot, efi and sources with files: bootmgr, bootmgr.efi and reagent. Each of the three folders have a few files in them for bcd or for Dell scripts in sources.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Can't create a Windows 10 recovery usb drive. Some required files are missing

You might run a System file check on your install.  Open an administrative command prompt and type:
sfc /scannow
Report if errors are encountered.
Also in the command prompt type the command below and copy and paste the results.
reagentc /info
Since you appear to have altered your partitions, it does not look you have any OEM info (images, etc.) included.
If you uncheck the box to copy backup files, will the recovery drive complete?  If it does complete, how much the drive space was used.  How large is the USB drive?

HI
I'm trying to re-install Windows 8 as it is not working properly, but did not make a copy of the  Dell software image when I bought my Dell XPS 8500. I can not now make a copy of the software image.
When I use Dell Backup and Recovery, it says "it can not detect the recovery partition on this computer it may be missing or corrupt. To recover your computer to the original factory state and restore the recovery partition please use your system recovery discs"
In the past I would have just re-installed the OS from the provided discs and I'm not sure what to do next. At the moment the OS is not working correctly.
Help!
ThanksPaul

Answer:Windows 8 Recovery with no OEM DVD or USB drive or recovery partition

Dell made a software called "Dell Backup and Recovery" to help it's users to backup or recover the Operating System, Factory Installed Drivers and Applications and Personal User Data like Music, Videos, Photos and documents etc. To do so, Dell creates a Hard Partition called Recovery which contains an image of the Operating System, Drivers and Factory installed 3rd party applications like Mcafee Anti Virus which are all together known as Factory Image. Dell recommends it's consumer to backup this Recovery Partition in USB Flash Drive or Multiple DVD's as soon as they Fire the PC for the first time. Now, as you mentioned that you're recovery partition is corrupt, and you don't have the Recovery Media Disc's, none of your data could be recovered. If you PC is covered under warranty, you can call Dell Technical Support and request for the Windows 8 Media Kit & License Key and can simply do a full Operating System Reinstallation. If your PC isn't covered under warranty, you might need to Purchase the Retails Version of Windows 8 Media Kit with License Key for a $100. Remember that you can't use any other Dell Windows 8 Media Kit that didn't not came with your Dell PC as each Dell Windows 8 Media Kit has a Unique System Specific License Key for Windows 8 which is Injected into the System Bios and can't be retrieved by the User.
Next Time if you purchase a new Dell PC, Always remember to make the Recovery Media using Dell Backup... Read more

After internal Hard Disk crash in ThinkPad W520 I tried to recover back-up content from external HD.  Most programs recovered properly, However the Netobjects Fusion 12 Program and Data Files did not recover. Tried to do it manually and message "zugriff verweigert" (Access denied) appeared.  How can I override message? Or How can I back load the mentioned program from the external Back-up HD?

Dear Friends, I have just bought Y460 and before installing any new softwares I want to create recovery disks. Now, I have followed the http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-and-Z-series/Y460-Partition/m-p/214574 link but couldn't get answer to my following senario:Will one key recover works with below steps:1) Shrink the C drive of available 420 GB. - Using Disk Management windows utility. Lets say shrinking C drive to 100GB. and creating another drive of ~320 GB.2) Create Recovery disk using One Key feature.3) In case of failure, can I restore windows 7 to its original. Meaning, as of before creating recovery disk. In that case, It will get restored to C drive with 100 GB. Please feel free if you have any suggestion or comments. Have a Good Day.Thank you,Ankur

Answer:Y460: Creating Recovery disk after shrinking C drive using one key recover works?

if you make any changes on volumes, one key recover will stop working.
but according to the thread somewhere in here, after partitioning volumes, if you make fully backup and update your hidden partition, it may work, but not sure, i haven't tested.

just burn recovery disks before. in case of failure, you can delete and merge the new partition to c, and you may use recovery disks ( not tested )

Answer:How to recover Windows 8 from Recovery DVD?

Hi

Start your machine and press F12 to enter boot menu. When you see the boot menu on the screen put disc 1 in optical disc drive. After doing that choose CD/DVD as first bootable device and press ENTER button.

ODD should start to read recovery disc. All you must do is to follow the menu on the screen.

When you write “it is not working” what do you mean exactly?

Hello,

at work I have deleted some files from a network drive. I have tried recuva, undelete and one or one or two others. they will not let me scan a network drive.

It isn't a major problem - and it would be quicker to recreate the items that to manually get the drive out and connect it locally - but is there free software that would let me recover deleted files over a network?

thanks

Hi guys,

I was using Windows 8.1 then upgraded to Windows 10, but all of my personal files has deleted and I tried best of recovery programs and they're not helped me.
So, if I roll back to my previous version of Windows, does my personal files recoverd?

Thanks for you.

Answer:How do I recover my deleted files after upgrading to Windows 10?

No. Rollback doesn't affect personal files. In fact to do a rollback would make chances of recovering files worse as you would be writing more to the disk.

If you don't have backup and can't recover them they are lost unfortunately.

Hello, A friend conscientiously made the recovery disks when he got his machine, and now needs to use them. Much to his and my dismay, some of the files on the disks are corrupted in some way or another. He upgraded the hard drive after making these disks and had wiped the original drive in order to re-task it, so nothing from it is available. The machine is out of warranty, of course, so I understand that support will be ... less than supportive. Where might I be able to download disk images (preferably in DVD format) or perhaps the individual image files which are damaged? I can provide a list of them and which of the recovery disks they are from.  Would anyone consider making such available for download or uploading them to a website? You can privately contact me at  tumbleweed underscore biff at yahoo dot com.  Thank you in advance. The machine is a 7650-9LU Mike

A further note: another attempt to copy files from the CDs made for this purpose and there is only one file it was unable to copy:   4GOIE2A0.IMZ If someone would make this single file available, it is really all I need. Thanks in advance, Mike

I have my netbook dual-boot WinXP and Windows 7. (I used EasyBCD for the dual-boot setup.)

In booting into Win7, I used to have the option of the "repair your computer", which brought one several useful tools, if there is problem booting.

Of course, the exact same tools are on the Win7 setup DVD, which I have. However, with a netbook, I don't always have the USB DVD drive with me, or the DVD, and that recovery stuff boots up much faster from the HDD partition, than from the DVD. So I think it is good to have. (Not at all like the notebook manufacturers recovery partitions. I wouldn't want to use those at all, wiping out all my data.)

Recently I upgraded to a larger HDD. I used Acronis to clone my old HDD (at that time in the notebook) to the new HDD (attached via USB enclosure). (It was an older Acronis version, long predating Win7. I don't know if I would have had better results with a new version.)

Well, at first I could not boot at all, with the new HDD installed. I was able to fix that though. (I forget the details of it at the moment.)

Also, my drive letters (I have four partitions-drives) were messed up, so somehow the Acronis cloning did not keep that information, and I had to fix that in both XP and 7, with Disk Management.

For the most part though, my partitions were all intact in the new drive. Being a larger HDD, I increased the size of a couple, in the Acronis interface.

I realize now though, that I do not have the recovery boot-up option any mor... Read more

Answer:Recover Windows 7 Recovery Partition?

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized full Disk Management drive map with listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu. Screen Shots

If you cloned the HD over then the Recovery Partition should be intact, although whether it will still run from the hotkey at boot is questionable. What is your make and model so we can advise you on trying to boot Recovery?

If Repair console is on the HD it is the 100mb System Reserved partition placing it on the F8 Advanced Boot tools menu. What options do you have on that menu now? Does Repair load if there?

Since you have the DVD to use the preferred method of reinstall, you probably don't really need the Recovery Partition anyway, so may want to recover its space if it doesn't cue up to run from boot. You can always order Recovery Disks from your tech support if you didn't make them when Recovery was still working from All Programs.

Hi All,
I'm in a real bind. When I first bought my ASUS N61JQ Laptop it was recommended to make a set of backup cd's to recover the system in the event of a major incident, which I duly did.

Today, after putting up with a poorly running Windows for too long, I decided to install a new SSD and try and do a clean install of my system software, from these CD's.

They all loaded successfully and when they finished loading I was prompted to Restart the computer.

All looked good on restart, the Windows logo appeared, then another screen, and after a few seconds, a very large red word saying "ERROR" and the message "cannot find c:\recovery.dat.

I've spent the rest of the day trawling the web to find the way to recover Windows from the data put on the SSD from the CD's, but to no avail.

I would have thought that if ASUS wanted you to make a backup of the recovery files, they would also give you the procedure, on how to recover to a clean installation. Unfortunately I can't seem to get a lead anywhere.

I'm confident there are some people out there who know how to do this, and I would really appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction, because is starting to really do my head in.

Regards Ron

Answer:Can't recover Windows 7 from ASUS recovery CD's

Hmm, wait until someone gives a green light on this:

Some searching show this is quite common

Make a bootable media of Partition Wizard free and delete the hidden recovery partition.
If it works, later "move/resize" C into unallocated space on left.

i try to backup my laptop data using system image recovery.. In the process, the system told me that 'the backup could take up to 16 GB of disc space.' So, i just create another partition (17 GB) on my external hard disc as a backup location. The process went smoothly. But unfortunately, all my external hard disc partition has been deleted and there is only one partition (RECOVERY 31.9GB ) that include recovery data is created.. Is it any way that i can apply to get back my deleted partition?

Answer:System image recovery has deleted my external hard drive partition

Hi Fuadansari

Can you please tell us the manufacturer and the model of the hard drive that was overwritten.

I've done that process so I think that I understand what happened. Is it an Acer laptop?

The most important thing at this point is that you DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING TO THE AFFECTED DRIVE. That means do not format it or do anything that may alter the data that is currently on it.

So, my problem started earlier this week when I tried to scan my Hard Drive using my antivirus system. Never do that.
My Vaoi laptop froze at 27% during the scan, and I had to manually shut it off (hold down the power button) and then restart it. Well, it started the scan again, and got stuck again, so I had to restart it again. The next time, I was able to read this millisecond long message about how to "cancel dskchk by pressing any key", so I did, but then it just took forever to load and opened on an error message saying that windows couldn't load, or something along those lines.

Eventually, after figuring out how to open safe mode, I tried to use a Restore point (which didn't work), Refresh the System (which couldn't complete), do a lot of maintenance scans (none of which helped), consult the internet off of my friend's computer (where I heard about the windows.old folder), and then I was finally forced to use the Vaio Recovery Tool and do an emergency backup onto my new External Hard Drive... It semi-worked, but a lot of my files weren't passed over to the external drive, and I'd like to get them back.

The files I care about are mostly image and document files (jpg, bmp, Word, and Notepad) and the folders they were in were all on my Desktop, but I don't know how to get them back. Some are there, some aren't, it's all just really confusing. So, now, I'm currently running three different Data Recovery programs ... Read more

Thanks for the alert about the dup. thread. I closed it.

When you don't have a backup I don't know what can be done except for trying recovery software, as you have, or if the data has suddenly become very important there are companies who can, at least sometimes, succeed where free software fails.
