Pinning icons to taskbar in W7

Question: Pinning icons to taskbar in W7

I cannot get some icons, My Computer, Control Panel etc., to pin to the taskbar in W7. It keeps pinning them to Windows Explorer.

I have just bought a new computer running W7 because my old computer running XP suffered from old age.

In XP all you had to do was click on the icon, unlock the task bar, and drag the icon to the taskbar, but that doesn't work in W7

So how do you pin icons to the taskbar in W7.

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed Word 2013 onto a new computer some time ago. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Pinning has never worked. I can drag, I can right click and select pin, I can do whatever I want, but nothing appears and it just stays blank. Neither do recently opened items show up on a right click of the icon. Pinning/recent items works on everything else (e.g. Adobe, Explorer), including Outlook. I tried reinstalling but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find much to go on so I gave up and have done without pinning. Recently I turned on "store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and suddenly I was given another clue as to what the issue is - Excel still shows nothing BUT in Word's recent items I'm getting *Adobe* files (see screenshot, file names removed for privacy): http://i.imgur.com/3wOOU60.png) I can pin adobe files to word's icon. I googled again and I still don't see anything about this but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this and can help. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar??

Drag folder to the explorer icon on taskbar and it will be pined there.

Question: Pinning to taskbar

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

Answer:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

Question: Pinning To Taskbar

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

cheers!

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

I know about the tutorial explaining what to do using the toolbar method, but I don't like the separator between the Recycle Bin and the rest of the icons. There is another recommended method of pinning the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut and using shell:recyclebinfolder, but this stopped working. In fact, all my folder shortcuts I created and pinned to the taskbar by using explorer.exe in the target stopped working.

Is there any other working methods out there so that I can put the Recycle Bin icon anywhere I want on the taskbar without seeing the separator?

Thanks.

Enable the Quick Launch toolbar, and put all of your pinned items there, instead of pinning them to the taskbar.

Hi,

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,
Felewin

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem.

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

Answer:Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

This references: Quick Launch Bar: icons don't wrap even though there is room - a post by chillz which discovers a "bug" with the taskbar not resetting the row-sizing for toolbars when dragging the taskbar to the left then back to the bottom.

I, for a while now, have been using a custom quick-launch toolbar on my taskbar with the taskbar being 2 unit-lines in height and having the taskbar on my secondary ( left ) monitor. When I first set this up it showed 3 lines of small icons in the toolbar and up to 2 lines on the standard taskbar. This was perfect because the toolbar didn't reset the order every time I launched an application contrary to how the pinned application system works. With pinned applications, no matter what position I drop the icon, the order always resets and floats from place to place so that system of organizing icons is disgusting because you have apps between icons of apps that aren't running some times and other times the running applications are above and below with or without grouping enabled.

The vertical display would be the ideal way for me to view unlaunched applications ( see aforementioned topic ) because they group together and launched apps come after; in horizontal mode the taskbar is chaotic without a toolbar organizing the apps to one side but then you lose the functionality of the pinned-application system ( if you forfeit usage of that chaotic horizontal system in favor of how the vertical system works but in horizontal mod... On both my Windows 10 home PC and work computer, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker causes duplicate buttons on the taskbar of Chrome that turn invisible:

As you can see in the image, there are two blank icons in front of the Chrome icon. Both of these are working and open Chrome when I click on them, except they're invisible. The only way I'm able to fix this is to restart explorer.exe whenever it happens. I've only ever had this happen with Chrome. All of a sudden the following symptoms (all at the same time)::
1. Taskbar icons gone (replaced by a neutral identical icon) except Edge and Store
2. In File Explorer, no longer thumbnails, no icons either, simply blank, but names show
3. All desktop icons gone; but their names still show and they "work"
4. When I rightclick to "Properties" (on desktop icons, or File Explorer items) nothing happens
5. Control Panel no longer shows icons, names only
Seems rather dramatic.... Anybody any idea?

Answer:Thumbnails, desktop icons, taskbar icons gone, Properties doesnt work

Please try to right click on the start icon and select Command prompt administrator, give admin permissions and copy/paste this into the window that opens and press enter sfc /scannow . If you decide to type it in, please notice the space between the sfc and the /. We want it to say no integrity violations were found. If it says there where corrupt files that could not be repaired, please reboot and run it again. You may have to run it 3 times with reboots in between each time. See if this helps.

Very odd behavior for the past several days, would appreciate any input.

My taskbar icons, particularly the system icons (Network, Power, Volume) are disappearing/remaining hidden on their own. It's essentially like a carousel, where if I enable an icon in "Settings > Taskbar > Select which icons...", the one farthest to the right becomes hidden. Please see attached screen capture (or linked here)

Basically when I disenable & enable, say, Volume, the right-most icon gets bumped into hidden -- Network or Power, in the below screenshot. The affected icons remain hidden until I go back into Settings and enable it -- it does not re-appear even if I click on the upwards arrow to expand, nor if I choose "Always show all icons..."

What I've tried thus far, from helpful Tenforums archived posts:
Alternate between Tablet and Desktop modeScannow /sfc (no errors)Restore system (attempted one from 2 days and 2 weeks ago)Registry removal of any IconStreams/PastIconStreams (only IconStreams was present)Reinstall Windows with in-place upgrade ISO from Media Creation Tool

The only program that I imagine might have done something like this is Winaero Tweaker, which I installed last week to add some folder links to my "Quick access", so I tried uninstalling, but sadly, no effect.

Would really appreciate any tips. Hopefully it's something silly, as I'd much rather not do a Refresh and have reinstall my various apps/programs.

Thanks!

is there a way to fix this?

thanks!

Answer:missing icons on settings > choose icons to appear on taskbar

What are you trying to add to taskbar
If Windows Explorer then just click the slider to on
Same with all the other ones that are off.

Or are you having trouble getting them to click on and show icon on taskbar
If something else please explain more so members on here can help you further

This morning when I booted up my desktop, all of my icons on the desktop were missing, although the shortcut is still there and works. The icons in the taskbar now have a generic looking icon. Right clicking on the start menu no longer brings up the menu and when I go to file explorer no icons appear.

How can I get these things back? Everything was working fine yesterday when I logged off and it didn't appeared to have an update.

Please help.

Hi everyone,

I'm having another complete nightmare problem on my brand new Dell XPS running Win x64 Ultimate.

When I try to customise what behaviour the various icons exhibit on the taskbar (and I'm taken to CONTROL PANEL- ALL CONTROL PANEL ITEMS-NOTIFICATION AREA ICONS), some of the icons are correct and truly represent the proramme which they are aligned with, but some are incorrect and some are blank and some are duplicates of icons for other programmes that are shown elsewhere.

I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works.

Can anyone help, please?

Many thanks,

Hi,
My computer's desktop is blank (black) with no desktop icons.

My task bar icons are missing.
My windows button doesn't open.
I can not access settings (even using CTRL R -> ms-settings: OR right-clicking task-bar. It "times out").
There is "no wireless interface on the system".
My computer constantly gets BSOD (every error possible - i can't remember the error codes. Frequent ones that appear are WatchDogViolation and Memory Management).

I haven't been bothered to fix this problem until recently and was quite happy navigating using CTRL+R but now I'm annoyed. I have tried/watched multiple solutions however, there's always something missing in order to fix the problem, such as opening settings (which i can't do as seen above) or when i feel like i'm almost there, BSOD appears.

This is my last resort before "calling a guy" to help.

If anyone could help that would be great

Thanks,

I have successfully installed Windows 10 ("final') on three devices: One venerable notebook, one "media" desktop computer (in my living room) and my main desktop computer in my home office.

Unfortunately, I have encountered a strange phenomenon on my main work computer. I have set the taskbar icons to "large" and they are a "bearable" size. However, the desktop icons (which I don't display on the desktop) in the taskbar are TINY (!) ? and I can't find any way to make them larger.

What make this strange is that there is NO disparity between the size of the App and desktop icons on the desktops of the other two machines. Am I missing a setting, or is this a "glitch"? Is there a workaround? It is really NOT acceptable ? a "step backward" form Windows 7, in my opinion.

Answer:Sizing disparity between App icons and desktop icons in taskbar

Hello Hammerz Welcome to the Ten Forums!

You aren't the first to be complaining about the size of items pinned to the task bar. Efforts to adjust the dpi on those separately only seem to lower the desktop resolution as well. When 10 first went on here I had to change the screen res back from 1600x1024 or 1600x1152 to the native and supported 1440x900 for the pair of 19" lcds in use here. The task bar however remained at the 1600x ? res while the rest saw the 1440x900 take effect.

I tried unlocking the task bar as has been done previously with 7 to grow the size by widening out the task bar and it wouldn't budge a bit as another idea. That only revealed the shortcuts seen in the Quick Launch type additional tool bars added onto the main task bar as jump lists but didn't grow the icons any!

If you should find a solution for this I think a good number of people would love to hear about it just being one of the few annoyances the new version is bringing in with it. Too much emphasis on Tablet and a bit lacking now for the desktop is what the main problems seem to be.

I created a few shortcuts from chrome and added them to my Taskbar for ease of use.

I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Hope I explained it properly.

Answer:TaskBar Icons Constantly Changing My Icons For Chrome any Help?

I noticed the same problem. I think the solution is to make the shortcut read only before you pin it to the task bar. I did this a few days ago and they seem to be keeping my new icon.
If you later want to unpin the shortcut from the taskbar you will need to remove the readonly check from the taskbar shortcut properties. Although it will unpin without doing this you will be left with the shortcut in the real folder and have to go there to physically delete it.

I have a laptop with a 4k 17.3" display. When set to native resolution, 3840x2160, some programs do not display their dialog boxes and menus in usable form. In an attempt to correct this I have tried setting the display resolution to 1920x1080. Then setting the magnification to 100%. At 4k resolution it is set to 250%. When I change the resolution down the dialogs and menus become usable, however all the desktop icons disappear and the icons pinned to the taskbar all change to the same graphic, I can't tell what it is. If I change the resolution back to 4k the icons become normal again. Any ideas?

My problem is specific to the unpinned icons in Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit. The pinned applications stay put just fine. This problem started a couple of days ago.

It seems that, when I have multiple unpinned applications open, sometimes the icons of the unpinned applications move around at random times (it seems that the last active unpinned application moves to the right even though it wasn't the program opened last). And sometimes, when I have only one unpinned application on the taskbar, its icon seems to move from some slot to its right back in its position.

For some reason I suspect some malware or virus may be the cause.

I tried uninstalling ATI Radeon HD6450 drivers and reverting to an older version, as well as uninstalling every program that was installed since the day the problem started, to no avail. I found four malware in the meantime but even removing said malware did not solve my problem.

Answer:Unpinned taskbar icons moving around the taskbar

I don't think it's malware. If it's any consolation, my machine at work does this occasionally, and it's clean. I don't know what's causing it, but I've just chalked it up to being a quirk in Windows.

Users looking for ‘Alt+Tab’ alternative to switch between different Windows application try 7 Taskbar Numberer. It is a simple and useful application that makes it easier for you to switch to and launch applications on your taskbar.
Consider a case where many applications are kept open or where a user has significant amount of tray icons. It becomes a task to identify the sequence of desired application or tray icon.
7 Taskbar Numberer solves this problem by numbering sequentially, from left to right. Icons for the open and close-but-pinned Windows applications and then placing ‘HINTS’ tiny visible numbers as they are known, in the upper left corner of the application icons and upper right of the tray icons. What’s good?
The numbering scheme supports more than one digit, so the hint for the tenth application is ‘10’. The application is light on resources as it consumes only 2.6 MB of your computer memory space.Plus, it is free of unwanted toolbars and adware. If, at all, you are not satisfied with the performance of the program, you can right-click on the icon in the system tray to unload the application and remove numbers immediately.
7 Taskbar Numberer is compatible with both, 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 operating systems. Anyone interested in downloading it can download it from here.

Hey,

Basically I am in the following situation:
I am a web developer - therefore I like to have applications such as Opera, Firefox, IETester, FileZilla, Visual Web Developer, DreamWeaver and several other programs open at the same time;
I am currently revising for an exam - therefore I may need to have Opera, Firefox, Word, Excel and several other programs open at the same time;
I sometimes like to watch films, listen to music, play games etc etc to chill out a bit - perhaps in a break from my revision.

In each of the three above situations, I like to pin the icons to the taskbar. Problem is that to have them all pinned to the taskbar would make it overflow - even with DisplayFusion installed with a taskbar on both screens.

Is there any way to group icons into one icon on the taskbar - so hovering over an icon called, say, Developer, will bring up a list of Developer icons (without having to open a window and open the programs from there)? Alternatively is there a way to change "modes" so that, on clicking Developer from a list, it will repopulate the taskbar with any programs I have previously added to the taskbar when in that mode? I do not want to create a user account for each mode - thats just long.

If anyone knows of a way to do this or a program which may be able to achieve this then please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

Richard

Hi,

After doing a lot of tweaking, I've came across a very weird problem at taskbar.

When I right click pinned apps on taskbar nothing happens. But left click works.

When I left click system icons like volume and network, nothing happens. But right click works.

Does anyone have any idea about how to solve this weird problem?

Thanks

Answer:Taskbar: Can't right click app icons & can't left click system icons

I am guessing that whatever tweaking you did, caused the behavior that you are having. Try rolling back the system with a System Restore, before you started to mess around with the OS.

I recently installed the trial version of PowerDVD 7 (and uninstalled PowerDVD 2.55, because otherwise the installation wouldn't continue) in order to test it out. A few minutes later, I decided to reinstall version 2.55, except I didn't uninstall version 7 before-hand.

Afterwards, I restarted my computer and logged in. I found that all my icons and my taskbar had gone. Explorer.exe was running, but it didn't seem to do anything, and starting another instance didn't do anything either. I figured it had something to do with PowerDVD 7, since that was the only thing I downloaded in a long time, so I uninstalled it.

After restarting the computer again, the icons and taskbar were still gone. I found out that I could get them to reappear if I closed the only instance of Explorer, and run it again, but I don't want to do that every time. How do I return things to the way they were?

I'm re-posting my question here, I think this is the proper forum.

I'm having trouble adding icons to the task bar. I have quick launched checked. the tool bars unlocked, but the handle to expand it is all the way next to the start button, and that's the only handle showing. I can click on it, but I can't move it. I just noticed it, but the the quick launch box doesn't stay checked in the task bar and start menus, and it doesn't check when I right click in task bar > tools>quick launch. I was editing A icon earlier and removed all the icons, I thought no big deal, I'll just drag them from the desk top and put them back. Right now I'm not sure what I did. Os Vista home premium. Please help!

Question: Taskbar icons

This is a really dumb question, and I know that I know the answer, but I'm suffering with brain-fog. Can someone please tell me how to remove icons from the task-bar in W2000Pro?
We must have a dozen of them and at least 10 are not things we use regularly. Thanks, Robin

Answer:Taskbar icons

I am assuming that you are talking about the program icons that on are the left next to the start button such as the IE and OE icons. These are just shortcuts to the items so have no fear about removing them, just make sure there is another shortcut somewhere or you know how to access the program other than using the taskbar icon. Simply right click and select delete.

On the off chance that you are talking about the items in the system tray, located on the right next to the system clock, you will need to remove these programs altogether or disable them from starting up when windows starts. Either using options in the individual programs or something like Start up Control Panel.

Okay. Everytime I turn my pc on, icons and taskbar is always missing, the beckground is still there though. I run task manager and look at the processes and explorer.exe is there. In order to be able to use the pc, I created another user, ran task manager, end the explorer.exe, restart, log in with the same user, log off, and log in to my original user. As you can see, it is a very hectic process, that is why I need this problem to be solved. Also, after several hours of using my pc, I receive a "generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close" error which causes my Volume adjust to say that it doesn't detect any audio device management software or sumtin like that.

Question: Taskbar Icons Help

I know this is petty but its doing my head in! Before i reformatted my machine the taskbar icons were a good size when not opened and in use. Now after reformat for some reason when i open an app or anything through the taskbar the app stays larger in the taskbar and not the little icon size that it is normally (or used to be before reformat). I used to be able to open multiple windows explorer windows from literally just hitting the win explorer icon but now once something is opened it gets larger in the taskbar - similar to how when a program is open in say xp and i cant open another instance of it without opening it elsewhere or right clicking. . Cant seem for the life of me to figure this one out. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello.

After installing a software (Splashtop), the gap between the icons on taskbar became big. If I uninstall the software, everything goes back to normal. Is there a way to customize the gap/space between the icons?

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

At the top is when the software is installed, at the bottom is when I uninstall it. I want to note that when I installed it for the first time, the "Show touch keyboard button" got automatically enabled.

Answer:Big gap on taskbar icons

For some reason this software makes W10 think you have a touch screen enabled. Open Device Manager and look under the entries in Human Interface Devices. If there is one for Touch Screen disable it and see if this makes a difference.

Question: Icons in taskbar

Hi Peeps,
I have just had to reinstall xp and for some reason my taskbar icons are like vga instead of the usual good looking icons its nothing major but it does look bad,,

Please help this dumb blond female
Julie....

Answer:Icons in taskbar

Hello Julie

Here are some things to try

1. Unlock the Task Bar if it is not already unlocked. Put your cursor on the top of the task bar, it will become a double arrow. Now, carefully left click and drag the task bar down until it becomes a single line of icons.
If you drag it down too far it will disappear, so be careful. You can get it back by just reversing the drag.
When you get it where you want it, lock it again.

2. Unlock the Taskbar, disable Quick launch, then re-enable Quick Launch

3. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Display
Choose the Advanced Tab
Go to the Active Title Bar option, and ensure that the font size is no larger than 8 point (Tahoma recommended).

I had a hard drive in my pc running windows XP. One day I turned it on and saw I had no taskbar and no icons. I searched online and say this seems to be a virus problem of sorts. I could ctrl-alt-delete and run programs from there, but that was it. I have since installed a new HD and XP on it but want to clean and recover as much off the old drive, which is now in an external hd case. It quit working altogether at one point but I was able to get it readable using chkdsk. Can anyone help me check, clean, and repair the old hd which is now in an external enclosure so I can recover files from it? Thanks, Joe.

My desktop is stuck on a certain wallpaper which I cannot change and the icons that were on my desktop are not longer there. Also, the taskbar cannot be accessed. I can only access my computer thru Task Manager. I can open up my programs and I can pull pictures from other folders into Quark or Photoshop. But I cannot pull up the folders and view what's inside them unless I'm in a program. I have run Chkdsk thru Command Prompt. Also, let it be known that I didn't have an anti virus program installed. I have bought one but I cannot get windows explorer to let me view it to download it. I also don't have internet. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP. Is this salvageable?

Hi, I am helping my dad fix his computer because he has a billion and one things running and it is taking forever to do anything. After working with you in the past I knew that I had to get spyware and adaware in here because I could tell from the search bars that he had some spyware. Anyway, I downloaded the programs for him and then I had to leave. I came back today and he told me that he had installed them and ran spyware blaster(he thinks) and anyway all his icons and taskbar are gone. I don't know what the heck happened to them as this has never happened to me. He ran Norton a few days prior so I don't think he has a virus as he came back uninfected. I don't have hijack this downloaded yet for you because I don't even know what folder all his downloads go into. Anyway, I was hoping we could resolve this w/out it. he is operating on win xp.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit...

Two applications pinned to the taskbar, Defraggler and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, both show the "generic" icon rather than the ones built into the .exe files. In the "Start Menu", Defraggler is shown with the generic icon, but Eusing Free is shown with it's own icon.

See the attachment below.

Hi, I have a laptop running XP with SP2. Had a serious problem with viruses/malware. Loaded McAfee Virusscan onto the laptop, ran it, cleaned up all except 1 virus (sorry never wrote the name down). I was told to reboot system and McAfee would complete the clean up process. When I did the reboot, I get to my background screen, but nothing else happens. No Icons....No Windows TaskBar at the bottom of the screen. I can run programs using the CTL-ALT-DELETE Task Manager.

How do I get Windows back to normal & restore the icons?

Thanks

Answer:NO ICONS or TASKBAR!!

In the task manager, go to File>New Task(run)>type in explorer.exe, it should work since thats what the problem seems to be.

I rebooted my computer yesterday and now it won?t load any desktop icons or the taskbar, all I get is the wallpaper. I am able to get to files and the internet thru the Task Manager>browse option. AVG free (ver 7.5) removed Trojan horse Sheur2.LBH which I think I unknowingly infected my computer thru a jump drive.
I?ve run a virus scan again but it says ?no threats found?
I?m the only account on the computer as an administrator with password protected; guest account is disabled.
I?ve tried safe mode and system restore with the same result?.no icons or taskbar.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop with Win XP Home with SP2 or 3; Windows Firewall; AVG free 7.5 (updated daily); Firefox browser

Curiously, the processes within task manger mainly show LOCAL SERVICE and SYSTEM. The only OWNER is task manager. For a total of 11 usually I?m running 21-22
thanks in advance

Question: Taskbar Icons

Hello,

This should be really simple but I cannot figure it out. I have Vista Home Premium. After I restarted my windows that I have open, like Firexfox, Thunderbird, Word, don't show up like they used to in the taskbar. They go to the fare right side beside the notification area and are really small tabs. How do I get them to go back to normal? Picture attached.

Thanks, Paul

Answer:Taskbar Icons

Right click on the taskbar. Unlock the taskbar and see where it shows the slider. It looks like it is way off to the right when it should be. Move it back to the left and you should be all set.

Question: taskbar icons

Hi

Is there a way of placing the icons the way we used to do in win xp. I mean, i used to place icons in groups in a folder so that it was much easier and faster to select them without having to go to Start>All programs.

I work as a designer, mainly 3d models and i use many softwares. Quite often i have to work with three or four and sometimes 6 softwares at the same time. This way i have to keep them at sight in order not to go crazy.

My problem is that i?ve changed my OS recently and i?ve had a hard time trying to find things out, but i wasn?t able to config the taskbar the way i want it.

Can you give me a helping hand?

Thanks
madgirl

Answer:taskbar icons

Can't you just drag and drop it into the taskbar?

Or right click it and pin to taskbar.

Edit: Just checked again. If you right click on your icon the menu will give you a selection and
one of them is pin to task bar...

Hello everyone,
I was arranging my icons on my taskbar and deleted them. I thought no big problem, I'll just drag them back from my desktop. I have the taskbar unlocked, and when I click on the handle to drag it to the right to make room for the icons it doesn't move. In the taskbar start menu, the quick launch doesn't stay checked. When I right click on the taskbar>tools> quick launch, I can't check the quick launch. I'm not having any issues. I did a system restore to no avail. That seldom works for anyone, but it seems we always do it. Obviously, I must have done something wrong, because when I deleted them, I deleted them all at once. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Best Regards,
gil777t

ps. The icons I want are in the quick launch file.

Answer:Can't add icons to the taskbar
