Hibernation failed with error: The request is not supported

Question: Hibernation failed with error: The request is not supported

Thank you for the explicit instructions on how to activate hibernation. Unfortunately, I am getting the following message when entering the powercfg -h on:

Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
There are one or more legacy drivers installed:
VgaSave
An internal system component has disabled hibernation.
PLEASE HELP!!! Can I disable the VgaSave driver?

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Hibernation failed with error: The request is not supported

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Hibernation failed with error: The request is not supported

Welcome to Seven Forums bbossoxx. The VgaSave is a default system driver. Have you tried updating your display driver? If no help, suggest running the System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Upon trying to use Cipher to do some simple encrypting on my machine I have ran into some issues.

If I execute Cipher.exe from the Command Prompt it seems to be functioning normally and subsequently lists all folders on the current directory with a U in front of them indicating that they are unencrypted, however, when I attempt to encrypt a directory ... or rather the files within it ... I get an error that reads " The request is not supported " beside each file listed in the directory and an overall summery that 0 files were encrypted.

I noticed that there is no Cipher.dll file on my machine, as according to some due diligence research, perhaps should have been. I located the only cipher.dll I could find, however, upon trying to register it I received an error that " the module was downloaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found. I also found an update on Microsoft's website, (KB4032188), that claimed to resolve known Cipher issues, however, was unable to install it on my machine as it kept stating that the update was not applicable to the particular Windows 10 build I am running. I also tried to use TLS 1.0 only and still received the same error. Any ideas?

Hi All

I have been trying to back up all my important data onto an external hdd. The external hdd i am using is a WD 2tb. I am currently running Win 7 x64 with 2 x hdd wd 2tb set-up in raid 1 for hdd failure. I would like the external one as a backup weekly in case of file corruption.
However when i go into setup, i get the following msg "The request is not supported" Error 0x80070032. I have read through a few threads on this forum with regards to task scheduler and event log they all seem to be set as required. There is also suggestion that win 7 may not be able to handle large hdd sector size, something about 4k versus 512.

Please help ! If you do have any info for me could you please explain in laymen's terms as i am only an amateur at this and sometimes the explanations given are a bit confusing.

Thanks in advance.

Hello lech1985 and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you're using the built-in Windows 7 imaging and back-up tool that might be the problem. I've heard that it's not able to consistently and accurately read/write large volume data. You could try a different free image and back-up software to see if it makes a difference. Some of the recommended programs are:

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

Free Backup Software: Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Edition - Overview

Best free backup software. Hard drive backup and recovery, image and clone freeware - EaseUS Todo Backup Free

DriveImage XML Backup Software - Data Recovery Product

having trouble installing an Epson WF-2530 printer onto win 8.1 machines.
i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
thoughts???
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

When I had only a single Vertex SSD I was able to setup and perform backups without a problem to my 1TB D: drive. Now that I've added another Vertex and created a RAID0 (240GB total) I get the above error when trying to setup a new backup of the RAID0 C: drive. I CAN perform a "create system image" without any error message, but I'd like the capability to restore only files if someone can offer a solution.

Dell customer support wasn't able to help me fix this issue. Luckily I've got a bit of experience with computers and was able to figure it out. Basically, my XPS 8900 started freezing at start up (at the Dell logo) and would either remain frozen or black out the screen with the error message, (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed.
So, for anyone else unfortunate enough to encounter this error, here's the fix;
- Start Computer
- Press F12 at the Dell logo (May require wired keyboard)
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "Legacy Boot Mode, Secure Boot OFF"
- Apply changes
- Computer will restart, press F12 again at the Dell logo
- Select "Windows Boot Manager"
- Computer will start as normal. Log in. Once on your desktop, restart computer
- Press F12 at the Dell Logo
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "UEFI Boot Mode, Secure Boot ON"
The computer should then start normally and you should have no more issues.
Hopefully I can help at least one person with this information, I was tearing my hair out in frustration. Have a good day :)

Answer:XPS 8900 ERROR - (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed

Hi,
I have a XPS 8900 I purchased from Costco about 2 months ago.  Just this month I have had my system freeze on me 7 times.  It boots up ok but freezes randomly while I am logged in on the internet or in outlook.  I have had to do cold boots. This last cold boot I did today I barely saw the message "Request MeSpiLock Failed" as it was booting up.
Costco tech support asked me to did a system restore which didn't help and another time ask that I do a rebuild to earlier version of Windows 10.  I don't have high hopes that this last change will help.
Do you think the steps you listed in your post on 1/15/16 at 6:38pm would fix my problem?
Thanks - Joanne

Hello,

Happy Holidays to all.

Have the following msg that appears momentarily on top of
monitor when attempting to boot my non-booting system:

A7 Me FW Download Request Mpsp Lock Failed.

Any idea what this means ?

Won't go over my tale of woe with my Dell XPS 8900 now, but basically I got it to run, finally,
perfectly, after using the Dell Repair Disk I created when I bought the pc 2 yrs ago.

But, like usual, after 10 minutes or so it just freezes, and a blank screen.

There "seems to be" a correlation in that it "seems to" happen after a download from MS and/or Dell.

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

when i switch on my com the first prob is that it always reboots automatically and kind of and then recommends using start up repair.

I barely do this because I have tried it and whenever I start up it will just ask to do it again.

So I start Windows normally and then when I log onto my username a little box pops up that says

"Warning: Your system does not support hibernation."

are there any ways that I could prevent this thing popping up or possibliy get hibernation back?

Answer:hibernation problems, not supported

Is this the same PC as the one in the Vista forum?

When did this problem begin? Is it related to the installation or removal of hardware or software; to Windows updates; updates to your Antivirus program or another program?

Which version of Windows; which service pack?
RIGHT click "my computer".
Left click "properties".

Does the hibernation box appear before or after you log in? What happens in safe mode?

Which brand & model PC? If not OEM, what is your motherboard?

You can disable hibernation thusly:
RIGHT click a blank spot on the desktop
Properties
screen saver tab
power options button, lower right.
Hibernate tab
uncheck "enable hibernation"
OK
OK
reboot.

My USB ports became more and more flakey over the past few months. Often the device was recognised but would not enumerate a COM port. I tried recently to update new chipset drivers and now devices are not recognised at all. I have tried installing the drivers on the Lenovo page but to no effect. I have a feeling I installed an older Intel chipset driver which may have caused problems, in any case re-installing the chipset driver on the Lenovo page makes no difference. I have written more details in this post on SuperUser The error given in the device manager is code 43 and  "A USB Port Reset Request Failed". I can't find any information on that particular error code.

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

I have an Acer laptop 5003wlmi with XP; my battery is dead. I want to correct this Hibernating issue.

When I come out of hibernation, these two system settings are lost.

After hibernating, UNPLUGGING, then plugging back in and powering on:
1- the screen is dimmed to very dark and
2- the Wireless Network Adapter is disabled. I have to manually fix both of these.

If i hibernate, leave the laptop PLUGGED IN, and power on, then both of these settings are fine.

If i Turn Off my computer, then power on, both of these settings are fine (the WIFI adapter remains on and the lcd screen is bright) as before I powered down.

So, it's only when I UNPLUG my laptop after hibernating that this problem has started to occur.

Please let me know what you think. Thank you!!!

Hi. For the past several weeks I have been having serious problems with my Lenovo Y570 laptop that have been getting progressively worse. The problems started when the computer began to fail to hibernate. Sometimes it would successfully hibernate, other times it would hang with very high fan/cpu activity, and have to be manually powered down. If left in this state, the system eventually restarts on its own and on reboot I get the message about Windows failing to shut down correctly. At first this was occuring only infrequently but now it happens everytime I try to hibernate the computer. I have also encountered issues when closing the screen or when the computer goes to sleep (failure to return from sleep, random restarts, etc.) I have now been starting to encounter other startup/shutdown problems frequently. For example, the system will lockup on the Windows logo screen, or at the bios screen, and have to be restarted. These problems seem to be worse after a failed hibernation when I have had to kill the power. Typically after a few tries I can get into windows, although sometimes I have had to preforms startup recovery (which just does a system restore). Once in windows, the system seems stable. I have worked on it all day and/or left it on overnight without problems, as long as power is not interupted. I have also had several BSODs. Most recently, this occured at the user login screen, before I had a chance to type my password. Event viewer gives the following information:... Read more

Answer:Startup Freezes/Failed Hibernation

If you usually run the laptop when it's plugged into power, you could consider turning off all sleeping and hibernating options.

What do the BSOD errors say? You can use Who Crashed to check about that after the fact

My Vista Ultimate Windows disc image backups were going smoothly and then I got an error: the backup failed transfer syntax not supported by RPC server (0x800706C).

I downloaded the demo for driv3r from http://www.gamershell.com/download_8798.shtml, and installed it. Now when ever I run the game I get this message!!! Failed to create DirectX. No supported display adapter present. I'm pretty annoyed seeing as the day before I bought it over Amazon and was waiting for it arrive and now i'm thinking it might not work! I've tried looking in the (rightclickdesktop > Propeties > Settings > Advanced > Adaptor > Properties > Driver > Update Driver) but the auto install (recommended) said i had the latest version!
Please help!

Answer:Failed to create DirectX. No supported display adapter present.

No supported display adapter present

It means your particular video-adapter is not supported by that particular game. The adapter lacks some of the required specifications needed for that game to run.

If it's a desktop PC, you need to install a better video card which has the required specifications.
The required specifications should be on that game developer's website. For starters, the card must support 3D.

Hi,
I have an adsl connection. i have a GLB-502T D-Link modem/router . It works fine with the desktop only plugged to the ethernet. Now I want to have a wireless LAN setup at home. which is why i connected the DI-514 wireless router to the ethernet port of the modem/router and the desktop to one of the five ethernet ports. The desktop worked fine on the first go but i cannot connect the laptop. The connection is made and drops in about 30 secs or so saying The host did not respond to the DHCP request made. If i repair this which menas the lappy will again do a request the lappy connects again but gives the same err in about the same time .
Please Help
Thanks for any small i/p

Answer:DHCP request failed

I'm surprised that it worked at all. Both of those routers have the same subnet as their base address, which usually makes it impossible for the second router to connect to the WAN port. I'd configure the secondary router as follows, which will give you the wireless capability, but eliminate the second NAT layer and it's difficulties.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

After too many unexplained problems, I decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and migrate off of SBS 2011 Standard. In addition to the primary workstation that can't read any event logs, I built five Server 2012 R2 servers (Hyper-V host, Active Directory
VM, Exchange 2013 VM, SQL Server 2014 VM, and WSUS VM).

I was diagnosing why my workstation's Outlook cannot reach the local Exchange Server.   I tried to look at the event logs, and found the
Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.  Verify that Event Log service is running (it is) or the query is too long (whatever that indicates).  The request is not supported (50)
Looking at the directory of the event logs folder.  It appears that most logs are empty, which is understandable since it's a rebuilt installation.  I found a small number of Applications and Services Logs and it appears nothing was logged since
six days ago on 4/4/2016.   On support forums, I found many have this exact problem on Win 7, Win 8, and Win 10.  Of the solutions posted none of them would even execute on my Win 8.1 Pro x64 machine.  I tried clearing the event logs (WEVTUTIL
CL logfilename) and am told Failed to clear log .... The request is not supported.
It's very difficult to diagnose why Outlook 2013 cannot reach Exchange 2013, even if Outlook is installed on the Exchange server machine (just as a test).  The web-based Outlook owa, ecp, ... all work fine. ... Read more

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:

(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

I am running Win 7 Home 64 bit and have encountered windows update failures. All suggested fixes have failed to resolve the problem so I tired to run system restore back to a date that I believed would restore the pc to a time when windows update was functional.
To my chagrin the restore also failed with the following window popups appearing: Unspecified error during system restore 0xc0000022. The other popup tells me that the program can't start because rtl120.bpl is missing. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. I don't know of the two error messages are related or the missing file mentioned relates to something else?
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Greetings,

I am having a current issue and for the life of me have been unable to resolve it. I'll start from the very beginning.

I am currently working on a new build that contains an Asus Maximus VIII Hero. I was trying to figure out a way to get windows 7 on a Samsung m.2 ssd and it hasn't been working out. I made some bios changes hoping it would resolve the issue and nothing. I changed all of the bios settings back to default, installed a regular Samsung 850, and installed Windows. Ever since then it takes ages to boot. Between the Asus splash screen and the Windows start screen I get the error message "(A7) Me FW - Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" it also makes a loud click sound.

I've found a few posts online but nothing has helped yet, I have also switched all hardware except for the MOBO and CPU since I do not have any spares lying around. I have also re-seeded the CPU and cooler.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Inspiron 7559 that is failing to boot. It displays "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" just after showing the white Dell logo.I think my daughter turned it off when an automatic BIOS upgrade was started. The system was reporting the BIOS was at 1.2.0 but it couldn't see any USB drives. I ran BIOS recovery which left me with version 1.1.3 and the ability to see USB drives - still not able to boot into Windows 10.
I downloaded the latest firmware (1.2.1) and created a new bootable USB drive to update my firmware. If I run the Inspiron_7559_1.2.1.EXE from a DOS prompt or from the BIOS Flash Update option after hitting F12 it fails with "Unable to start a Secure Flash session".
Running from DOS:
I get promoted to Start to Flash: Y
Decompress ROM completes.
Get related info.
Uploading the ROM into the BIOS completes.
Uploading the ME Capsule data into the BIOS completes.
Begin to update BIOS from version 1.1.3 to 1.2.1 fails with "Error: Unable to start a Secure Flash session."
I've tried various boot settings of UEFI/Secure, UEFI/NotSecure and Legacy. Also Dell DDDP and Rufus to make bootable DOS USB drives.
I've also tried using the recovery utility (hold esc + control when connecting in the AC power) with a USB and a BIOS_IMG.rcv - I get a black screen and 3 amber flashes followed by 4 while flashes on the LED. Without a USB I will get the recovery screen.
Diagnostics did not report any issues.

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hey guys... I am about ready to pull what hair I have left out of my head. Here is my setup:

-MSI X99A Pro Carbon motherboard
-Intel Core i7 6800K prcessor w/Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 cooler
-32 gigs of DDR 4 Quad Channel ram
-Windows 10 Pro
-One SSD 250GB Intel drive for OS
-5 internal HDDs for storage - All Sata connected
-Corsair Graphite 760T case.

I do not over clock. I have the ram overclocked in the BIOS using XMP to 3000 speed, but that's it.

Here is my situation, and I am baffled and feel super deflated over this mess as I run a small project studio for video and audio work and this is causing me to fall behind on projects.

I am getting constant on screen pop up notifications that a recent USB device isn't recognizable or 'has malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it' along with constant USB connect/disconnect sounds. I just built this custom PC this past week and everything seemed fine for a couple days, and then this started.

When it does this, I go into device manager, and I get a yellow exclamation mark under the USB list that says 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I have hit google search and tried every single suggestion I could find including the following:

-Blowing all the dust out of all the ports, although i doubt that was an issue because the case and motherboard are brand new.

-Going into device manager, and disabling or uninstalling the device that is giving the error. It pops right back ... Read more

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Would really real... Read more

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed. (error43)

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

Hello forum, I have a T440 with 500 GB HDD+16 GB SSD. The HDD failed within 3 months with light usage, which is very disappointing. The laptop is still under warranty and I am wondering if I can replace it with a single SSD under warranty. I talked to Lenovo customer service and I believe they will only replace it with another HDD. Can I request Lenovo to replace it with a 500 GB SSD instead for a small price? Or will Lenovo charge a lot of money for that? If the latter is true, then will it make sense for me to buy and replace the SSD on my own?  Also, which option is right for me? To get it repaired at a Lenovo associated depot or ship my laptop to lenovo directly for repair? I don't have a recovery disk and Lenovo said it will provode me with one.

Answer:HDD failed within 3 months. Request Lenovo to replace with an SSD under warranty?

Hi rad77,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

It?s always good to go with what the brand offers you always, as per the Lenovo policy Lenovo is responsible to replace the part which is shipped with the system only, if you need an upgradation to your laptop either you can buy it from Lenovo authorised service centre or you can purchase it from any of the online store but before that I kindly request you to check here  what does HDD and SSD do.

I would suggest you to go for Lenovo service and more over they are even providing you the recovery disk so, it is more beneficial for you rather than choosing which doesn?t fetch you anything.

Please let me know whether the above suggestion helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:

Hello,

I have a BIG problem here with a SCSI drive on our web server in our school.

All of a sudden i keep getting Start Unit Request Failed at start up.

and then when I try to verify the HD on the SCSI menu I receive an
"UNEXPECTED SCSI COMMAND FAILURE" with above a SENSE KEY: "NOT READY".
Like it says, it's not ready.

now this is the secondary hard scsi disk, my primary bootup disk is fine, when i boot up windows, it boots up fine, but doesnt see the e: drive. in device manager though it is there and it says it is working properly.

Do you think it could be the hard disk has failed. only last week on this same server the power supply went. and we changed the power supply. could thsi be related?
Thanks

Ranj

Answer:SCSI hard drive problem. Start Unit request failed.

Try reseating the connectors to the drive. You might swap the power connector between the two drives. Maybe something was bumped when the power supply was removed. If that doesn't work then probably the drive has failed. I take it that the secondary drive is on the same cable as the primary one and it was working ok before the supply went?

Suddenly my Dell DA200 Adapter doesn't work on my Dell XPS 13 9360.    HDMI & VGA can still work projecting to my monitor, but USB and LAN stops.
Tried uninstall, reinstall, update USB drivers to no avail.  Last resort was to clean install but problem is still there!  It's only been 3 months and I practically did nothing different than yesterday (no new install, change/update driver, etc.), just stopped today!
Tried the hdmi adapter to the USB-C and work, also showing it as billboard device, whilst the DA200 don't show.

Want to tried to wifi power setting, but couldn't find it in the device manage->network adapter?
Any idea what should i do?  Faulty adapter seems to be the last answer, but it's practically new and it was working flawlessly before.  Will i be able to claim warranty on it?

Thanks

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

So today I was playing a video game on my computer when all of a sudden my computer totally shut down. When I started it back up, my sound is not working and I am unable to open any folders. I get an error that says "No such interface supported" though I am able to use any program that I have pinned to my start bar. But I'm not able to access the windows 8 menu (the one where you click the bottom left corner, also not able to open it from clicking the right side of the sceen either) I googled the problem but none of the fixes were able to help me. I also ran a virus scan using ESET smart security and I came up clean.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this? My dad suggested I take the computer over to the local shop but I'd hate to waste money on something that is possibly an easy fix. Also like to mention if I run command prompt by using the windows keyboard combination, I'm able to start up any program, but when I click a folder I get the "No such interface supported" error.

Also wanted to mention I cant do a system restore since I don't have any restore points to revert to (stupid decision on my part for not making any)

Answer:No such interface supported [error]

Sounds to me like a hardware problem. Do you overclock? How old is this PC?

I've searched the forums, the web, and still not come up with any answers, so I think it's time to lay the cards on the table, if you get my meaning. Erm. You don't? Oh.

This error has effected loads of people, I believe, and can't find a single definate solution. After confiding in these people:

http://www.opengl.org/discussion_boards/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002920-2.html

We still couldn't come up with an answer. The best they gave was 'jiggle around with your graphics settings until something comes loose.'

You're probably wondering what I'm talking about. OK, here we go:

One day, my graphics card (which is incidentally an ATI 3D RAGE PRO, however I have deduced this to be irrelevant) stopped working in Half-Life in OpenGL mode, and since then I have had to use it in Software. The error message that comes up is:

"The selected OpenGL mode is not supported by your video card."

This is INSANE! I have no idea what this means. I have followed the advice given by other people, jiggled around with every other setting but nothing has worked.

Thanks in advance for your help to recitify this problem, I will supply any more system specs when asked, and I would like to take this opportunity to ask what OpenGL actually is.

my system restore discs i got with the PCClick to expand...

The post is a tad confusing

But the "Error! PC System not supported" means that those Restore disks are not meant for that computer

Also the Restore disks are they Xp or Vista?
And what did the computer originally come with?
And how do you have 2 OS's? (did you buy two?)

Do you need to backup? Or do you just want Windows Xp

I just ran the upgrade copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and upgraded from Windows XP. After many other problems, I seem to have come to a hault at this one. Whenever I run IE8, any time I click a link that activates a Javascript popup, and most of the time when I try to click something for download, nothing happens. When I check the scripting errors, I get the message "No such interface supported". There is very little info on this problem showing up in Google SPECIFICALLY for Windows 7. I've tried registering the .dll files that I get suggestions for, but most of them fail to register even after I take ownership of them. I've turned IE8 off and back on (since you can't just reinstall it). Its driving me nuts; how do I fix this?

hiya guys today i did 2 drivers updates with driver booster PRO - then windows update - then i used glary utilites for cleaning and then hell broke through i keep getting this error - no such interface supported on some programs and chrome i have to uninstall it and then re-install it because the shortcut cant open chrome please i need help with this ok and thanks alot

Answer:no such interface supported error

There is probably no helpful info that you can get now except for in the future don't use Driver Update programs get your drivers from the hardware manufacture website and don't run aggressive system cleaners, stick to CCleaner which is safe.

You could try running System Restore to restore your system to a point before you did the driver updates and aggressive cleaning.
Sometimes the only way you can fix this kind of damage is reinstall Windows or restore a backup image.

Thanks.

Recently I had a nasty virus, the Win 7 2012 malware that acts like a virus scanner. I managed to get rid of it with the help of some folks on another forum, but as a result, I have been left with this weirdo error.

I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but it seems like some new .exe files get this "no such interface supported" error when I try to install programs. It has also happened when I try to save .pdf files to Zotero, a citation management plugin for firefox.

For example, I just installed some windows updates, and when my computer restarted, this error popped up:

As part of the virus removal, I had to uninstall java/flash, and when I try to reinstall it, I get a similar error:

This is become pretty annoying and I have no idea what's wrong. I did the steps in the guide on this page (re-register all DLLs) and it did not help.

I tried doing sfc /scannow in cmd and it didn't help. According to winver, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate version 6.1.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

hi

I have an error that shows like this http://puu.sh/esYSX/fd0a657b74.jpg
the error happens when I right click from desktop, and click Personalize or Screen Resolution.

I have tried sfc /scannow but the error still occurs. However, i can access Personalization from Control Panel.
I have tried malware scan
Please help!!
FIXED:
1. Click Start . In the Search box, type CMD . At the top of the window, right-click the cmd icon and choose Run as Administrator .

2. At the prompt, type in FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G" and press <Enter>.

This will take several minutes to complete. There will be several C+ Runtime errors that will appear, as well as the system slowing down. Close all boxes that come on the screen except the CMD boxes.

Answer:EXE error. No such interface supported.

For anyone hesitating to run the above command, it is a common fix for the issue the OP had.

The command "FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G"" walks through the whole of C:\, finding all .dll files and parses it to regsvr32.exe. This effectively registers all dll files on the system.

Thanks for returning to share a fix for your problem, Ygp, as it will help others who find this.

Hey guys, I posted a thread a while back. Once I rip my music into windows media player, what I would normally do is drag the mp3s into my mp3 player and they would copy over fine. Its not the case with Vista 64. It sometimes copys the first track of an album then comes up with Error 0x8007045D This request could not be performed

I've had this problem for a long time. When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.

Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time.

What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.

PLEASE, help me fix this problem. I tried EV... Read more

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com

Greetings folks

I have a problem that bugs me for years, I never intentionally solved it, sometimes those errors disappears and all USB ports work fine, sometimes they do not. So anyone can help me please, it would be great.

Some of my ports do not work all the time, I cannot identify a specific moment. Inside the Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, I get 1, 2 or more "Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptior Request Failed )", sometimes more sometimes less.

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770
Motherboard: AsROCK H77 Pro4/MVP
Windows 10 all available updates downloaded and installed as of today, and everyday. The problem appeared on Win 8 or 7, not sure when. So it's not necessarily Windows 10 specific. I ported it to 10.
Here is what they look like:
http://prntscr.com/d6rm6k

Bios is up to date. Chipset drivers updated, various solution tried from googling, I even managed to make all USB ports stop working testing some of these solutions, I had to restore windows from a ghost image I had.

It's like these USB ports remain suspended sometimes.

Any advice on what to try? The most annoying part is that from the frontal USB ports some stop working randomly too.

Thank you

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

Regards

When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

I have had the Microsoft Wireless 2000 Keyboard and mouse for 10 months and it has been working fine. But recently when I plugged it in I got an error message which said :The last USB Device you connected to this computer malfunctioned. and Windows does
not recognize it.
I opened Devices and Printers and it said Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Also it is on Windows 10 Home

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

After installing Windows 10 anniversary update, I get the following error in the device manger: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

Thank you

EDIT: The problem is the motherboard. The computer was checked at a computer service, and it seems the time has come for it to be buried.

Hi Rostos and welcome to Ten Forums!

I would recommend two utilities. Maybe they can reveal what's going on.

USB Device tree viewer from Uwe Sieber and Nirsoft's USBDeview. They will give you info about connected devices..

Afternoon folks,

Recently I've been experiencing an issue when I launch The Sims 3.

When I launch the game my monitor switches to Mode Not Supported.
This started happening once I switched the VGA cable from my PC to my laptop.

I've googled hard, tried the Samsung(my lcd monitor) tips on resolution & refresh adjustments to no avail. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Answer:Sims 3 - Mode Not Supported error

In the game, switch the resolution to 800x600
