Weird behavior by Windows 7, clock/date field changing

Question: Weird behavior by Windows 7, clock/date field changing

I am furious at not knowing why my date/clock in Windows 7 keep changins its appearance. It is as if the files or settings for Windows change mysteriously back and forth and I don't like it one bit.

The issue pertains to this clock/date shown at the bottom right corner on the screen just beside the system tray.

Sometimes it tells me the clock and no date or anything else is shown.
Some hours later it changes mysteriously to show the clock and the date format I once set, so that I get to see the day of the week, the date in numeral and the month in letters, and finally showing the year.

Something appear to be horribly wrong in Windows and I have no hope fixing it.

Only hope here is if this issue is familiar to other people.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do these changes happen when you hover your curser over the date? A few screenshots would be helpful!

Windows 7 all of a sudden started having problems with date/time keeping. Of course I went to step #1 and put in a new CMOS battery. That did not help, the CMOS time works perfectly. The issue seems to be a disconnect between Windows and the BIOS. If I reset the date/time in Windows everything works fine until next reboot when Windows loses the time/date settings again. (BIOS time is still correct)
I have reset all BIOS setting to default
I have changed Windows time sync to different servers
I have replaced the CMOS battery
I have stripped windows out and did a clean install
I also ran HIRENS which also showed the incorrect date when it loaded it's mini-WinXP OS.
Nothing has worked!

I'm guessing there is a physical disconnect between the CMOS clock and Windows (all versions). I know that when Windoze loads it hooks the time from the CMOS and starts then does a time sync with the time servers. My problem seems to be that Windoze is not picking the time up initially from the CMOS so then it sets itself as either 1/1/1601 or 1/1/2005 after rebooting. To add a strange twist to this, it does not always change the time/date during reboot, but will always change the time during a cold boot.

Is this a hardware issue.

BTW..I have scanned the HD with four different virus scanners including a boot scan and ran the fix MBR command. I'm now at a loss...

Answer:Windows clock keeps changing date to 1/1/1601

Since the CMOS battery is OK the next step is the ATX Power supply feeding the MOBO. Make sure the connections are tight. Hopefully it doesn't have to be reconfigured.

For the past week or so my PC clock has been resetting to 00:00 upon start-up. Funnily enough, the date doesn't change and remains correct.
New s/w I've installed are updates to iTunes, Quicktime and Media player 10.
Anyone seen this before?

Answer:XP Clock Changing but not Date

That's usually an indication that your CMOS battery is dying. Your CMOS battery is a quarter-sized battery (like an oversized watch battery) located on your motherboard, usually towards the bottom. Among other things, it drives your system clock when you have your computer turned off. Take it out and go to Wal-Mart jewelry counter or Radio Shack and they'll get you a replacement which is usually only a few bucks. Let me know if that helps.

When I next log in sometimes the day is still correct but the time is always wrong. The computer is in a room which is kept room 65/70 so I know its not "cold".I believe there is "a battery" but no idea what this is or where it is.Any thoughts please. Answer:CLOCK changing time/date

There is a battery and it is often the cause of this type of problem - look in PCA or on this site.If you identify your PC and/or motherboard it will be easier to tell you where it is exactly.

I use due dates on my Outlook tasks. When I customize my Tasks list (in the Calendar view) to group by due date, I just get too many groupings (one for each due date!). I would like to know if I can create a custom field called 'Due Month' and/or 'Due Week', extracted from the 'Due Date', so I can view my tasks by what is due during a given week or month. If the answer is yes, any suggestions on the technique I would use would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

First the background: We are gradually deploying Office 2007, but not everyone in the agency has it. I have both 2003 and 2007 installed on my system, but I do my work in 2003, and none of our databases have actually been converted to 2007 format (at least, none that I work with). There are occasionally people who use 2007 when viewing databases, but I don't know if any of the people who are working in this particular database are using 2007. The problem is reproducible in 2003 and so I've been trying to fix it here. The query behind the problem report used to work. It has been a problem for several months (it is run monthly, and every month for the past five they've had problems with it) and I've finally gotten to the root of the actual issue.

The purpose of the report is to generate invoice for outstanding loans. The DateNextPayment is a calculated field based on the payment plan for the loan. It is calculated using a function in the query named qryGetSitesDDInvoices1. This is the function that is called (I did not write this function, I'm supporting this db long after the original writer has left):
Code:
Function DateNextPayment(PaymentSchedule As String, DateFirstPayment As Date, Balance As Currency)

On Error GoTo Handle_err

Dim Date1 As Date
Dim Date2 As Date
Dim Date3 As Date
Dim NextQtrDate As Date

'The code adds one month to datenextpayment at start of each month. Or yearly or weekly

Hi! Does anyone know what is the format of the date in the field "(battery) Manufacture Date" informed by Lenovo Vantage (Hardware Configuration > Energy)? It seems not to follow Windows setting. In my case, it is set to Brazilian Portuguese DD/MM/YYYY, but there is not a leading "0" in the returned value (see attached image). Does it really disregard the Windows setting and presents it in a fixed format (maybe American English)? When was my battery manufactured (Oct. 07 or July 10)?Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I have a large report of application forms which have been submitted including the date when they were submitted however the dates are formatted incorrectly.

1. Although the cell formatting is dd/mm/yyyy the data is being shown in mm/dd/yyyy which means the dates are incorrect (e.g. 2nd January would read as 1st February.)
2. As a result of this dates which are passed the 12th of a month are not accepted as dates (it reads the day figure as months and there is no 13th month etc)

I have tried to use the text to columns function but that makes no difference and I have tried to extract just the dates but I've had no luck.

Can anyone help, I've attached a small sample of the data.

Thanks

Daniel

While searching for some information in some old files, I noticed that every time I open a Word document, using Word 2007, the "date modified" shown in Windows Explorer automatically updates and changes the file properties to reflect the current date and time. I make no changes to the file and at no time am I asked to “Save” the document, which would justify the update of the “Date Modified” field.

This happens in both Vista and XP.

Is there any way I can change this setting? I only want the date modified to change when I actually make a modification to the document.

Help! This should be easy but I can't get it to work.

I have a report that must group by Trip# and sort by ascending activity date all of the various activities that took place on multiple days of the trip.
Further, the trip with the earliest date must come first regardless of the Trip#.
I've accomplished getting the earliest starting date trip first and grouping its detail with a unique string made up of the earliest date of each trip formatted to YYYYMMDD+Trip#. This prints a trip total and works fine.

But the daily activity for the trip is out of date sequence.
Adding a Date field to the 'Sorting and Grouping' insists on breaking on and printing a sub-total for each of the trips activity dates.
Without the sorting & grouping by date the trip records are out of sequence even though the data source query is sorted ascending by activity date.

(see attachments that show the above)

The only solution I can think of is to create a sub-report sorted by activity date.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

Just wonder if anyone has encountered these behaviors? It happens to me every time without exception:
If I do a restart, the computer restarts but makes the windows 7-start sound. Upon getting to the desktop, the laptop battery meter is missing and the quiet hours, location and flight mode from the action centre are also missing.
If I then shut down the computer and start it up again, it starts without making any sound and the battery meter and the three action centre icons reappear.
Apart from that, the computer/files are the same. Weird, it?s like having two different profiles. Ideas anyone?

Hi there

I have something weird going on with my network, I can surf and download whatever form servers like Rapid, Mega and all those, but I was trying to download Fedora 14 using the a torrent file, and at the beginning it started to download at the max bandwidth I got but a few seconds later it gets like clog up, cuz the download gets down to just 30 Kbps, have to mention that I have a connection of 15 Mbps, but that's not all cuz when I pause the download and close the program, I try to surf the net and everything is slow and even try downloading something form servers, like a video and is downloading at 8-10 Kbps

I check the Task manager and see that my network is at 14 % with a max of 100 Mbps, but I am not downloading nothing even the browser is close and everything else is close, I even check my firewall that has monitoring activity and nothing is using the net

have to say that the same happens every time that I try to use the torrent files, and I have to restart the computer for the "behavior" to go away

even tried with different torrent program version, installing it and reinstalling it
do you guys have an idea?

I stay away form any of the bit torrent sites, you never know what you might catch......ie cold, flu, virus's. First thing I would do is to make sure your system is free from all that. Then reset your modem and router and then check your systems download/upload speeds, from speedtest.net.

I have been experiencing some weird problems with my PPPOE connection ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.

1. Windows will never autodial the connection. Regardless of settings. When I thick the checkbox in "Connect Automatically", and click connect, next time the dialog pops, it will be unthicked again and it will wait for me to click the connect button.

-I have made the connection available to all users by selecting "Allow all users on this computer to connect through this connection" and "Remember my credentials".

-I have set it as "Default" in Internet Options and selected "Always Dial My Default Connection".

-I created the connection as "Broadband (PPPOE)" in the setup wizard as it should be.

2. Windows will eventually disconnect the connection.

-I have unthicked the mark in the Power Management box on my NIC "Allow Windows to Turn off this device" so the NIC will always stay powered on.

-Unselected "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" from Internet Options and set in PPPOE Options "Idle time before hanging up" to "never".

My network setups is as follows.

I use LAN as my connection type, with no modem in the middle. The LAN cable goes directly into the NIC and from there I set up the connection within Windows as "Boardband (PPPOE)", which is my only choice in the setup wizard, enter my user and pass and connect. Update - Windows 8 just prompted me to "Auto Disconnect" because the connection has been inactive for 20m, despite of everything I've done in #1 to prevent that. I managed to select the box "Don't use autodisconnect" on time and so far it hasn't disconnected me, but for future reference, where should I look for that setting when I set up new PPPOE connections, because it's obviously not where the other "Dis-connection" settings are and is independent of them.

The other problems still apply though - Windows will not auto connect when I resume the machine from sleep or reboot it, unless I login and tell it to do so, and it will still show that messy, old dialog box, making me feel as if I still have a 56K modem.

To begin with, I run Windows 7 Professional. I keep it patched up to date. I also run ESET NOD32 v4, and Windows Defender is on by default. Malwarebytes AntiMalware is run once a week on-demand.

Today I launched Steam, connected, and found there was a patch. I downloaded the patch and let it install. After it installed, I reconnected to steam, and suddenly Windows Defender popped up.

The popup balloon didn't say that it had found a virus, or malware. It said it flagged SteamServiceTmp.exe, and that it wanted to submit the file to Microsoft. I don't know if this means there was a virus in the file or some other malware. I think that's unlikely, considering it came directly from Valve (That's the file that launches to patch the Steam Service), but I'm not sure what that means. I can't find any record of the file being detected in the Windows Defender History, at all. Does this mean I have a virus? What is this all about?

The only reason I'm using Windows at all, (and not using Linux), is Windows is the only OS that's "handicap accessible" for people with my type of eye problems. I have very poor eyesight... and without the magnifier, I can't use the computer at all. The magnifier was pretty stable in Win 8 and 8.1, but in Win 10, you can't move it around on the screen without it going KOO-KOO and popping and flashing all over the place, changing shape and size on its own, and seemingly dragging windows on the screen with it, and, (I think), causing some windows to open to the wrong size afterwards. Sometimes the size is extremely small. Sometimes I can't even find the window at all, after clicking on its "thingie" on the taskbar in an effort to open it on the screen.

Is there a way to tell Win 10 to open windows a certain way... and not to do stuff on their own? This new stoopid thing where a window does things on its own instead of just listening to me, is horrible! Oh to have XP again.

Okay, so I've been having some issues with windows. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's driving me nuts... so here goes.

1. I always get the stupid password screen when I start up.. even though I'm the only user and I have no password (I even have tweakUI set to auto login as me)... but it still comes up.

2. My screen saver always changes back to the crappy ass windows xp one.

3. My shut down screen looks like a windows 2000 one with a drop down list for 'shutdown, suspend, restart... etc', instead of the buttons.

This just came out of nowhere, and it's making me crazy! Wot's... uh the deal?

Answer:Weird, annoying windows behavior... please!

1. You have the .net framework installed which adds a user called ASPNET, which is why you now get the logon window. To remedy this go to Start > Run and type:
control userpasswords2

Highlight your account and uncheck the option to promp for a password.

2. Is is a custom screensaver or one of the built-in ones?

3. Could be a couple things.
-Turn off Classic Start Menu if it is turned on.
-In the control pannel under User Accounts > Control how users logon > Make sure Use Welcome Screen is checked.

The problem:
The windows clock goes periodically out of sync.
I noticed this happening mostly when I restart the computer (though I have not been able to pin down the exact recurrence).
I tried a number of fixes, but what mostly strikes me as odd, and possibly indicative of the actual problem, is that if I manually change the clock to the real time, and I go for example to sites like time.is, the site tells me that my clock is out of sync.
If I use the internet sinchronization of windows the clock goes to a strange hour (for example now is 13:44, and internet sinchronization sets the clock at 22:47), but time.is tells me that my clock is right, even though it clearly isn't, and it gives an hour very different to that of the site.

Possible cause:
I admit I may have inadvertently caused this problem, as it appeared after a few days ago for a couple of reasons I messed around with registry keys related to the time.
In particular I changed the value of the registry key

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\W. Europe Standard Time\Dynamic DST
for example adding a 2015 key that wasn't there and seemed to be required in the installation of Microsoft Office.
I think I reverted the changes I made, but I may have missed something.

Some fixes that do not work:
I tried following the suggestions on this sevenforums post.
Unfortunately it doesn't work, here is the terminal's output:

Answer:Windows clock regularly changes itself to a random (?) date/time

If the cause is the registry, it cannot be fixed using normal methods. If it were me, I would uninstall and then install again. Also if it is the registry, system restore would correct the problem.
Good luck

I keep noticing periodically, (about once a week), that when I'm online the date in the windows clock is 24 hours ahead. i.e., this morning it was showing the date as 13/10/04. I manually correct it with "adjust date/time", but a week later, it's jumped ahead again. This only occurs when I'm online, and when my firewall is set to block. It does not occur if I'm not online. The clock is synchronised every 24 hours, and doesn't seem to gain time in itself, only the date gains a day. (Compared to my Oregon Scientific Radio controlled clock). Normal windows time gain problems seem to be the time gaining and not the date. Anyone else experienced this, and knows why it's occuring? Please note, I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't know much about comptuers or were to seek help by themself, so they came to me. I'm stumped on this issue as well since I've covered the basics with them.

As they explain it to me, the Windows Clock (Windows XP, SP2) periodically changes 10 hours ahead by itself. The first thing I thought of was the timezone improperly set and so when Windows goes to sync the time, it updates to the "wrong" time. However, I confirmed it is set properly. It seems that after it's changed back to the proper time, within an hour it goes back.

So that's where I come to you guys for any and all suggestions. One issue I thought of was the internal battery being dead. Am I mistaken in thinking that this battery is only in use when the computer is turned off and unplugged from the power source, or is the internal clock always running from this battery?

Thanks for any assistance.

- Adam

Answer:Windows Clock changing by itself

try this...Go into the BIOS. Each computer uses a different key. My computers use del or F1 or F2 to get into the BIOS. Try to change the time in there and then check if your tray clock is now accurate.

Sup All,

Running Windows XP (SP-3) on a Dell Dimension Desktop. All security and system settings are up to date and computer is clean of any viruses or malware. Computer was freshly re-formated with Windows and Updates re-installed last August. My family shuts down the computer late at night for about 5-8 hours or more of "sleep time."

It is connected through a Linkskey Wireless Router adapter and a Netgear wireless router. I have Home Networking from TWC. Today, the power company came out and said that they had to turn off our power for about two hours as all the drop-pole lines had to be replaced. The guys, said, "You might want to shut down your computer."

So we did. Two hours later the power came back on, but when we turned the computer back on, the date/time needed to be reset. (It was back to January 1, 2006!) So I did that, made sure that Automatically adjust for Windows Daylight Savings Time Changes was selected. There was one Windows Update that needed to be installed after boot-up, but it was unrelated to the time change.

I rebooted, and everything is fine, but what I wanted to ask is, what would cause Windows to react this way in a commercial power failure situation? We have had instances where our home networking, cable, phone, and Internet goes down sometimes and nothing like this happens. I always keep up with Windows Update. Could this be a modem, router, or issue that "they" reset when the company disconnected the power?

I wanted the date and the time visible in my laptop's taskbar. Of course, Windows will show the date and time if you simply enlarge your taskbar, but who wants to loose valuable screen space? This frustrated the hell out of me. Finally found a solution, and wanted to share it. Hope it helps someone trying to simply see the damn date on one line of the taskbar!!!!! Peace at last....

The FREE program I found on CNET is called "Free Desktop Clock". Ran a virus check on it, and came back fine, so I installed it, and it works perfectly with Windows 10. Shows the day, date, time, am/pm, all on one line. Has a few skins to change the look of your clock.

After installing the Anniversary Update on your Windows 10, you will notice that the Clock & Date which used to be located at the extreme right end of the taskbar, has been shifted to the left and in its place you now see the Action Center icon.
If you want the old arrangement back, use this portable tool called ClockPositionRighteousifier. It puts back the Clock & Date where it was.

Somehow on this three week old computer with:

Norton IS+AV 2007
AdAware SE
Spybot S&D

I got some spyware that ironically was named SD/bot or something. Norton claimed to remove it.

I knew it was spyware when Norton asked me to authorize "winsystems16.exe" to access the Internet. My first thought was -- a 16-bit program!??! My second thought was -- "That's spyware/virus/malware!"
Ran Norton... Norton removed it. Ran Adaware/Spybot and removed everything they found (mainly tracking cookies)
Anyways, I wanted to search for winsystems16.exe and when I did during the search a box popped up asking me to provide a password for a backup archive (Think a rar file or something)
Anyways -- everytime I search for a file now -- it asks for a password. WTF

Hello everyone,

These problems started happening maybe several months ago. I don't really use this laptop that often, so I have no idea what could of caused this. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Here are a list of the problems that are occuring.
1. If I press computer in the start menu, it “freezes.” It continually searches for drives but the blue wheel keeps spinning and nothing shows up even after 10 minutes. So far I've only noticed this with Computer, I can just press Documents from the start menu, and it instantly loads, and then click on the drive and go to where I want to go.

2. Sometimes a window will freeze for no reason. If I right click a file or folder in that window, it will always freeze that window. I have tried to right click a folder in 5 separate windows and it froze every one of them. Doesn't matter where the file location is, it can happen to any window. By freeze I mean the same spinning blue wheel, and the window cannot be moved or won’t respond ever again (I've left the window for hours and it never unfreezes). The only way to fix this is to end explorer.exe in the task manager and restart it, but that doesn't prevent it from happening again.

3. Some icons like text documents will look like a blank page with its upper right corner folded. Resetting the icon cache fixed this. On my desktop, currently my text documents and VLC player are missing their normal icons, replaced by this blank page.

4. In the column in the far lef... Read more

I switched over to Windows 8.1 when I got my new custom built computer a couple weeks ago. Since then Windows keeps changing my time zone making the clock off. Also it keeps changing my default programs. Any ideas how to resolve this annoying issue?

Answer:Windows 8.1 Keeps changing My Defaults and Clock

The first thing which immediately comes to mind is to replace the CMOS battery.

Yep... I know it's a new build, but you have no way of knowing how long that battery has been sitting around before being installed in that motherboard.  It's an inexpensive solution, so if this isn't the problem you will have less than $5.00 US invested.

ok, im having a VERY strange problem with windows clock. it seems the seconds are counting TOO fast and its making my clock go forward to fast. also whats jacked up is because the clock is counting very fast, programs that rely on the clock to keep the time are also moving to fast. [ for instance i burned a cd which usually takes about 3 mins, said 16 mins when i was finnished, though it was really only about 3]

i dont know What caused this or how it happened.

the first time i noticed anything wrong was yesterday evening when the clock was about 5 hours fast, so i moved it back. then i come on this morning and notice its moving too fast again.

has anyone had a problem like this or know how i can fix it? i have windows xp with sp1, all updates but not sp2.

I have successfully updated from Win7 to Win10, however when booting up, I am not always able to go directly to my password to continue the booting process. I turn the computer on and wait until I get the first screen (interesting picture, the date, etc.) I then tap the touch-pad to get to the next screen that contains the password field. Sometimes, but not always, the PW screen doesn't appear and when this happens, I can raise the "picture" screen with the cursor and see the PW screen. However, the PW field in the screen is grayed out. There is nothing else that responds and I have to manually force a total shut down. Then, when I re-boot, everything works as it should.

EDIT: This event occurred on my portable. The next post relates to the same event but on my new desktop PC that came with Windows 10 already installed. Thus, the two similar posts

Answer:Strange intermitent behavior on opening screen-No access to PW field?

Just got an HP Envy desktop with win10 pre-installed. Everything seems to be working properly except for one randomly occurring glitch when it comes to typing in the password.

Normally, and correctly, when the PC is first booted on, and almost ready for use, there will be a full screen picture with the date showing. Once this shows, I will either left click or press Enter. The next screen asks for my password or PIN. OK, that's how it works when it works right.

The problem occurs when I first click on the opening picture/date screen, strange things happen. The cursor shows, but I am not brought to the PW screen and remain on the picture/date screen. If I then move the cursor up, the opening screen will also move up and reveal the PW screen below. Moving the cursor up and down, moves the first screen up and down. When the PW screen shows, the PW field is greyed out and there is no response from the cursor or keyboard commands to type. Furthermore, Windows doesn't respond when trying to use the power icon to restart or shut down. As at this point nothing is working, I have to manually shut the computer down using its power button. It is on very rare occasions that re-booting does not correct the issue. But, occasionally, I will have to re-boot a second time to get to an active PW screen. BTW, and thankfully, awaking from sleep causes no problems. Help is most appreciated.

Okay this one is a little freaky. I built a new PC recently and installed a fresh 8.1 . Few days later it starts randomly (maybe 1-2 per day, sometimes never) opening two new tabs. One searches omegle in google but doesn't open it, the other goes to rcc.edu. It also sometimes enters the same piece of my Skype history into the text field. This piece of skype history shouldn't be on this computer since the logs are from a few months back, thus left on the old computer. I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes and Kaspersky, also used process explorer and scanned prcocesses with virustotal and got no positives. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. also affects the mouse, but no movement, just left clicks.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Answer:Windows Clock keeps changing hour after reboot.

Hi and welcome to TSF

You can synchronize your computer clock with an Internet time server. This means that the clock on your computer is updated to match the clock on the time server, which can help ensure that the clock on your computer is accurate. Your clock is typically updated once a week and needs to be connected to the Internet for the synchronization to occur.

1. Open Date and Time by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Date and Time.

2. Click the Internet Time tab, and then click Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Select the check box next to Synchronize with an Internet time server, select a time server, and then click OK.

Hello all!

Bit of a strange problem here windows clock keeps resetting time after every reboot it still stays in the same time zone just changes the clock.

Iv'e changed the CMOS battery and the BIOS time is correct.

It did this on Windows 8 and still doing it on windows 8.1.

Thanks!!!!

Answer:Windows 8 clock changing to wrong time after every restart

What does it change it to? The reason I ask is that I had a similar problem because Microsoft didn't implement daylight saving time for the timezone I was in (Tunisia) which was later fixed. Until the fix I had to use Paris instead where the hour offset was correctly implemented.

Help! I am using a Seagate Central 4TB NAS drive attached to my router via Ethernet. It has been working fine so far for all kinds of file activities. But whenever I modify a file in one of its folders, the creation date for the file also updates and is
changed to the same time as the new modified date.
Maybe relevant details:
I can move/copy folders to the drive and they maintain their created dates.
It happens for both a private user share on the NAS and for the Public share on it.
It happens for at least image files and text files.
I am able to edit files across two computers on the network just fine, the create date stays the same.
This happens from a new Windows 10 machine and Vista machine both.
I notice sometimes the date created seems to stay same until I access the file the next time.
I can't update the NAS firmware because of error.

If it could be a permissions problem, I have been unable to change it from:
Everyone: Special Permissions only
nobody (Unix Group\nobody): Special Permissions only
nogroup (Unix Group\nogroup): Special Permissions only
(Those were there automatically, they are not something I manually put there. I get "Access is denied" whenever try to add permissions or change ownership.)

I have Googled many phrases of this problem far and wide and come up with nothing. I really need to save the original create date because that's how I sort them in programs like Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa. Does anyone know what's goin... Read more

I work with MS Access 2003.

I am creating a query to show all contracts set up in a certain year that have been cancelled in that specific year. This "Cancelled" field is not a yes/no field, but includes the date on which it has been cancelled (always starting 31/12/YYYY).

First, to show me the contracts set up in a certain year (say 2008) , i created a parameter under the "Contract Year" field, asking which year you want to see (in this case 2008).

I wish to add a criteria that then shows cancelled contracts at the end of that specific year, so 31/12/2008. So whether it is "2008" or another year is dependent on the value in the "Contract Year" field.

I tried the following as criteria for the Column "Cancelled":

#31/12/[Contract Year]#

to try and have it take the year mentioned in that field.
But it doesn't work. Access sees is as a second parameter, instead of a field name.
I tried adding LIKE to it and the &-sign, still no luck.

Is it possible to use a field name in a date criteria and if so, how could i do it?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Yes you can do it with simple VBA code, you could also add it to the comment itself, so it appears at the beginning of the comment.

How do I copy the cells down and keep the field with date in fixed? For example I added the date I needed to 'Delivery sheets d1':=IF(Data!L2='Delivery sheets'!D1,"exclude","No") but when I try and fill down the D1 continues in a series e.g. d1, d2, d3 etcI hope this makes sense. Not sure how to go about this. I am not a programmer by any means but need to make a program.

I have a text file that is in what is called BAI format (bank standard format to send info). Basically this is a CSV file with a header. Right now I use a mail merge file to update the date field. I am looking to automate this so I would only need one "dummy" file and have a program that will update the date field automatically. The file is opened with notepad. I have done some VB but not a lot. I am looking for the best way to go about doing this. I tried to get some of the programmers to do it but no one wants to worry about supporting it, so I am taking a crack at it.

All help is very much appreciated. One idea I had is maybe a macro in excel but not sure if it would mess up the formating. I will try to get a copy of the file I use and post it.

Hi all!

I've got a rather weird issue going on. Several times now, I've jumped on my pc and noticed that my AV is "out of date" so I do an update and it still says it is out of date. So then I check the date/time in the task bar and it way off! just yesterday it said it was September 3, 2407! It has done this several times and it's starting to bother me... also, a utility for a game controller I have crashes at windows start-up along with Steam (sometimes). I don't know if these are related or not, but right now I just need to get the time/date fixed... I'm thinking of maybe reinstalling windows to rid of any viruses that AVG FREE isn't picking up....

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I know, there are lots of threads/info out there on the topic, but none (that I've found) have addressed my problem.

I'm simply trying to figure out how to display the time and date on my taskbar, without the day of the week. I don't want my taskbar 3 "levels" high in order to see the date. Why can't I just drag it over so its wider rather than taller? Sorry I'm frustrated, hopefully there is a way to do this, but Windows sure doesn't make it easy.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello, I need help with the following:
I have a field (called Date_Time) which displays for example 1/31/2005 12:00:00 AM. I would like to run a query that converts that value to '200501' in a created field.
I tried the following below but I keep having problems.

select Account_Number, Date_Time,
concat(year(Date_Time), month(Date_Time)) as Date_Time_Modified
from table
where Account_Number = xxxx

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks in anticipation.

Is there a way to insert a date merge field where the date is spelled out (June 10, 2008) and will not change if the document is reopened, resaved, modified, etc?   Thanks for any help!

Answer:MS Word merge field for date

I'm not quite sure I understand the question, but depending on the Word document...you can use the "Insert" link from Word's toolbar to insert the date into a document...formatted to your liking.Once the document is saved...the date will always appear as you have set it.

Hi guys,

Something weird is happening. Some of my movie files (file type doesn't matter) became corrupted; when I play them in VLC they cause errors, they were just fine before and nothing has changed. I noticed in Explorer that these files have no Date Modified field, it's simply blank; I've never seen anything like that.

I did a chkdsk on the drive and see no errors. What could it be ?

Thanks.

Answer:Blank Date Modified Field ?

VLC should rebuild the Index, but that is a temporary fix. Depending on what format they are, there is "DIVFIX" and "Meteor MKV repair" you can try to run the faulty content through which of those is appropriate, you'll have to google it, cant remember the links.

Hello everyone,

I'm working on an order management database and I'm stuck on one item.

I have a form that users can fill in with purchase order data. One section of the form relates to contract review completion.

I would like to have a checkbox that the user can check when contract review is complete, but I'd also like for a completion date field to be auto-filled when the checkbox is checked.

I've tried a couple of things, both unsuccessful.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

hi, i searched in vain for an answer to this question:
when i edit an image file and resave, the date modified date does not change. since i started using computers 100s of years ago, this was automatic. how can i enable this (obvious) field? what point is there in even having a date modified field if it stays the same as the date created field? thanks!

Answer:date modification field does not change

Are you sure you have the Date Modified selected as a column to display?

Right click on the header column (has Name, Date, Type, etc.) and select the Date Modified tag.

I receive periodic Word (.rtf) documents from a property rental agency whenever my property is rented. The document contains the dates rented, the renter's name, etc. There is a "date field" in each document which automatically shows today's date, rather than the date the doc was created and sent to me. If I want to forward the doc to the renter a week later how do I stop the date from updating when I send it and stop it from updating when the renter opens the file?

I'm new to this, any help would be great!

Thanks!

I have tried sending a message to a friend who, up until now has had no problem receiving. The message I am sending has no attachments. But this message has come back several times with the message:

This message has been rejected because it has
an overlength date field which can be used
to subvert Microsoft mail programs
The following URL has further information
http://www.securityfocus.com/frames/?content=/templates/article.html?id=61

but when I go to that hyperlink it is a page saying that the item 'might' have been removed.

Incidentally I have an uo to date virus checker running and have been able to send and receive emails to others since the first bounce of this email

Questions:
1. Is this a genuine response or some sort of problem at receivers end?
2. If genuine can someone explain what I might need to do, if anything can be done, at my end to get the message through. I have already tried maing the subject line smaller but that made no difference.

Greetings

It's been a long time since I last posted here, but hopefully all you wonderful people will be able to help...

Here is my problem:

A customer of mine has a SQL database where one of the fields is a date/time field that looks like this:

13/02/2003 14:32:58
14/02/2003 08:59:10
15/02/2003 17:09:37

Now, I need to delete all the records for a particular day (One of their HD's failed, and they had to restore the data and lost a day, but the entries are still in the database, and can not be re-entered until the old entries are deleted).

How do I structure a query to delete all the records for a particular day? Preferably, I would like a SELECT statement first, just to check that the records found correspond to the delete criteria, and then the DELETE statement.

Thanks

Not to worry chaps, I figured out the answer all by my lonesome

select * from {database name} where {date field} > '14 February 2003' and {date field} < '15 February 2003'

delete from {database name} where {date field} > '14 February 2003' and {date field} < '15 February 2003'

I want to combine a text field and a date field into one field to use as a reference number. IE 'Mil - 05/11'.

I have got a field with the standard short date format 29/05/2011 (that I have to keep) and I have created a second field with the same date but formatted to a "mm/yy". When I concatenate the Operater Ref field "Mil" to the Date Ref field "05/11" I still get the full date format IE Mil - 29/05/2011.

Answer:MS Access Concatenate a date and text field

Jerry-

If you are creating the second field in your table, go to design view and change the Data Type to Text then try your concatenation. I built a mini-table and queried it and this worked for me... hope this works for you!

I have an excel sheet with dates displayed in European format dd/mm/yyyy :-)I import it into a letter ("you have been a member since") and it imports in American mm/dd/yyyy.I can't see how to properly format the merge field

Answer:Mail merge a date field screws the formatting!

It all has to do with how your Operating System Date is set up.If your in the US then the default is mm/dd/yyyyYou can change how Excel Displays the date to dd/mm/yyyy, but it Stores the date in the System Date format of mm/dd/yyyy.When you import the date to Word, the System Date format is used.See here for how to change the format:http://cybertext.wordpress.com/2009...alsohttp://www.ashbee.co.uk/index.php/f...MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

I have a field that is date/time, formatted to display the long date (which starts with the day of the week). This has been extremely useful for some append, update and delete queries.

However, I would like to be able to do an update query based on the day of the week for each record. I know that the date/time field is stored as a number so I can't search for any string of letters. But, is there a way to take the long date format and copy what's there as a string so I can then extract the day of the week out of it? Otherwise, I guess I'm stuck with adding a separate field for day of the week, and manually inputting it. Seems like such a waste.

This one has got me. Has anyone figured out a way to do this easily? I can create a new column and extract the right characters and make it work ... but just wondering if there is a quicker way out there!

Thanks in advance for your time/help ...

Answer:Excel: Extract hour ONLY from a date/time field

Ok, got it to work ... but not sure if there is a better way.

I created a 2nd colummn and used the =RIGHT(D107,5) to isolate the time (10:32) from the date/time field (JAN 12,2014 10:32)

I then created another column and used =TIME(HOUR(C107),0,0) to pull out the hour ONLY in 10:00 AM format.

Is there a quicker way out there?

The company I work for has asked me to work with the DB (as you may well guess in this economy I now have to learn how to work with Access DB. This DB was created by someone who had a book “Access 2000 for dummies” in 2002, I have since then converted the 2000 DB to 2007 accdb format. That being said, in a form that is used to track records-TS# is the primary key, they want a YES/NO or actual name- Completed *check box for yes and blank for no*. I created the check box as you may know that was easy enough. The problem comes in when I go to the next record the box remains in whatever state it was on the previous record and does not show up anywhere else. I am sure this is likely because there are steps that I am omitting or not aware of. Any help offered would be amazing as I continue to work on this train wreck.

-Mike

Answer:Solved: Access 2007 YES/NO field with time/date

Mike, the Check Box field has to be in the Table that the Form uses as it's Record Source. The Check box has to be "Bound" to that table's field, i.e. it's "Contorl Source" of the check box in design view must be the table field.

I have a database with a date field; 'Birthday'.

I want to take the month info from the date field and have access put it into another (adjacent) field. Ie;

Name:
Addr:
Birthday:
Month of B'day (New Field)

Also I want to be able to query the birthday field from previous data base tables which do not have the month field and make a table with the month information extrapolated to a new 'Month of B'day' field.

(Month([Birthday])) does not work.

I have printed a report with the 'Month of B'day" info extrapolated to the report but it is not useful because the report does not sort by the new information.

I know these must be possible but . . . . . AAAaaagh I'm going nuts.

Hey everyone,

I'm having problems with Access, where I have a date/time field, which stores a month and a year (successfully), but still automatically assigns the first date of the month in question.

I used the following input mask (00/0000;;_) for the date field, and so far I haven't had any troubles with putting in a month and year. So far so good. But when I complete the date and move on, Access changes it to a full date. e.g. 06/2010 --> 01/06/2010.

Now, I'm actually fine with this part, my only problem is that I don't want it to do this in forms (both datasheet and normal view) or reports.

I heard something about using a Format (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HP010990151033.aspx) to adjust the display, but I can't seem to get that to work. Is there any other way to tell Access how to display the date field, like what can be done in Excel?

This is rather urgent as I have a project due tomorrow and this problem (as well as others) have now been reached and I'd like to solve them as soon as possible.

Any help is appreciated, and I look forward to your responses.
