Need help, deleted application, and now no volume or dimmer control.

Question: Need help, deleted application, and now no volume or dimmer control.

Hello there, I am in need of some help. I recently cleaned out some unneeded applications on my control panel, and restarted my computer, but now I've lost my volume control/ dimmer control. There use to be a little black box that would pop up whenever i increased or decreased my volume or dimmer, but now its gone. I would like to have that back. I don't remember the application i deleted. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Need help, deleted application, and now no volume or dimmer control.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need help, deleted application, and now no volume or dimmer control.

There's proprietary software that provides this functionality. You may need to scour Lenovo's website for downloads of this nature, or contact them directly to see if they can provide you with a download. Or if the laptop came with backups of this kind where you can install the various software from CDs, then start looking.

Full question: How to add a new/duplicate volume control in the 'Volume mixer' (aka application specific volume control) in windows 7? specifically, how to add another duplicate chrome to control different sounds in different tabs.

example: opening 2 tabs: 1 youtube, 1 hulu in chrome and having two 'Google Chrome' applications in volume control so I can mute one and keep the other one still playing with sound.

I've done it before, but I'm not sure HOW I did it, I just know its possible. Sometimes when i open another video it just automatically does it, and sometimes it doesn't.

I just want to know if there's a specific way to do it, unless its just a bug then I guess I'm just screwed and have to install another chrome.

Answer:how to duplicate application in volume control

Don't think there's a way to 'duplicate' the volume controls. Sometimes when you mute videos and start another 1, the browser saves the setting so the 2nd stream auto mutes, may be this what you did?

You can also check out this addon Flashblock, it blocks the (flash) content from automatically streaming.

Hi,I already post it on the "Am I infected? What do I do?" section and cryptodan told me to post here. The link to my initial post is here where you can get the full detail about the problem.I have an Application on the volume control and it gives music but its always muted and I cant unmute it. Sometimes it's unmuted but the only thing it does is Give a wierd "pop" sound and a door closing sound.Screenshot with the unknow application:I scanned my computer with malwarebytes and it found 13 trojans on my temp folder then I removed it.Then I tryed to run ComboFix since I used it on my intership for solving malware problems but it just stuck.cryptodan told me to follow this Guide but DDS stuck as ComboFix does and the only way to use my computer again is restarting it so I was unable to get a log file from DDS.My OS is Windows 7 x86 Home Premium.

Hello, I am looking for a program that would allow me to adjust the volume of different applications (and master) using hotkeys (+mouse wheel) in Windows XP.A few programs come close, but either don't have application control or don't have hot-keys. If anybody knows of such a program please share,Thank you!

Answer:Per application volume control in WIndows XP

Unless the programs you're using have their own volume controls, this isn't possible, except as a master volume control which Windows already has.

Good afternoon everyone, The monitor I presently use in an AsusTek, VH198. Although, I have lowered the brightness level to 0, and adjusted the contrast some, the screen still seems to be too bright...especially at night-time.I've briefly looked at a few of the free monitor brightness/dimming control software applications available, but am unsure if they will actually enable me to lower the screen brightness more than what it presently is.My questions:1. Are any of these programs really effective?2. Is there any risk associated with them?3. Any recommendations as to a good one to try?Thank you for your time and any insight!

Answer:Monitor brightness/dimmer control software; Are they safe to use?

Are you using the video card properties or the on-screen display to control your monitor's brightness.

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

Best regards,

Hello,

"problem" of abrupt volume change when turning volume control disappeared. I am not sure if this is based on disable "TDispVol.exe" as start-up service or another reason.

I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

HYE GUYS,

Ive got this problem. When I go to Master Volume Control, there is no Microphone Slider Option but it appears on Recording Control. How can this be?

Im doing internet radio,so this kind of problem make it hard for me. The wave slider and mic slider must be work alternatively on master control. Or is there any other way?

HELP ME PLEASE.:cry

Answer:Microphone option not found in the master volume control but in recording control

Hi

I just noted your post in passing, have a look at your audio properties via the control panel in XP not sure about vista...See what you have set for playback and recording options you may have something different for each of the options in these tabs like recording control, playback device etc...

If your no joy, also have a look in the device manager and see what audio device you are using, if you have onboard audio and an expansion audio card (eg not built into the mother board) like a soundblaster audigy or similar then ensure this is selected for the appropriate recording or playback in sound properties. You might want to check to be sure the onboard is audio if any is disabled in the bios otherwise this may causr an IRQ conflict which you can check via the device manager on the audio properties.

I recently installed the Soundblaster Audigy and had all sorts of fun with it initially, untill i checked which IRQ (interupt request) it was using and found about four other devices all trying to run through the same irq, once this was sorted it was all joy and happiness...oh also check your drivers well your at it.

The other thing it might be is there are options in the (FILE) menu for volume control the one that lists maater volume wave microphone etc.. you can select which options to display and therfore in turn adjust in retrospect you may want to check this out as its the least complicated / time consuming of the options I've listed ...Good luck:wave

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

Hi there.I am all setup to record VHS tape using a new Hauppage WinTV PCI Card and I am grabbing the Vhs tape fine but there was no audio being recorded. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

Answer:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

Hi, it depends what 'wiped' means here. Can you post the command you used?

Meanwhile try one or more of the popular data recovery programs e.g. Recuva.

You might be lucky. Such programs usually have two levels of scanning.

I accidentally deleted my portable hard drive volume when messing around with Disk Management on Windows 7. The hard drive is formatted using FAT32 and is about 120GB. Is there any way to recover it? I have all media and some important documents in there. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer:Help recover deleted volume

Hi,

You can use the undelete option in a 3rd party partition manager. As long as you haven't attempted to change that partition in any way other than delete it, should work fine.

If you have a partition Manager - see if it has that option. Post back and let me know.

Hi guys, first time poster here so hopefully this will be at least somewhat bearable.

OK, so here is what I wanted to do, I was looking around the net and stumbled on to some videos about software RAID with USB drives. I know it isn't a very elegant or practical solution but I thought it would just be cool to see it working. So I found this article How to Create a Software RAID Array in Windows 7 and figured that since disk management in both 7/8 are essentially the same it wouldn't be a problem. I then went to delete the volumes on the flash drives and saw the option was grayed out. So in that state the drives cannot be used for what I wanted them to be used for. I did notice that on his tutorial his drives were described as "Basic" and my drives are described as "Removable" I think that somewhere along the line I saw something about removable drives being hard to work with in disk management so that may be it.
So if anyone knows how to do this all help is greatly appreciated!

Answer:USB Drive Volume Not cannot be Deleted.

Minitool partition wizard free edition should be able to set up your USB drives anyway you want them. Unless they are encrypted.

I have a tower Raid system with 8 2t drives. One of the drives was bad so in Disk manager, I deleted the volume. Now, I'd like to re-add a new drive to replace that one, but Disk manger will not recognize that drive even though I can see it in device manager and I've changed the drive positions in the Raid box. Is there a way to force Disk manger to see a drive again? (same one or different drive?)

Answer:re-activating a deleted Volume

is is rais 5 or raid 1 or 0? hardware raid or software raid?
Or was the failed disk just a "simple volume"

I frequently get this approximate (not exact words) message when attempting to use drive A or B:
The volume/drive is in use by another application/process.
This happens after I have finished using that drive for a previous purpose. For instance, I have copied files to the drive and have removed the disk and inserted another. Or, maybe I have formatted the disk and are attempting to copy files to it. It also happens when I am creating a boot disk or another type of disk using a disk imaging program.

So, it seems there is no connection to any particular program and that Windows 2000 is the common denominator. Also, it never happens under Windows 98 on the same machine.

Any suggestions what this might be and how to prevent it?

I used baku 2 weeks ago and deleted my sytem volume information. Win xp and now no restore,no help,no run etc. Still online and still lost ????

Answer:I deleted system volume information

I'm not understanding your problem very well as your post is somewhat brief and hard to comprehend.

1. I'm assuming by "baku" you mean backup? Please confirm.

2. When you say you deleted your system volume information do you mean the actual folder itself, or the contents of the folder?

3. When you say "no restore" do you mean you can not now set a restore point?

Any further details you can give as to what you did and what you are trying to do would be helpful.

A friend of mine, not me, accidently deleted a spanned volume, One of the disks is an IBM Deskstar 80GB and the other is a Maxtor 200GB with 8M Buffer. The Spanned volume was a total of 190 GB (using unallocated space from both). The volume was deleted using the MMC utility from windows. I was wondering if there is any software out there that would me, not me, my friend, recover the data that was in it.

When I want to change the volume etc with the Windows Volume Control thing, master volume doesn't do anything. It doesn't matter if it is set to mute or not, or if it's turned all the way up or down. The only thing that works is "Wave".
You can choose to put the volume icon in the system tray, so you can click that and change the volume from there, but it doesn't do anything there either.

Please click to speaker icon on the taskbar on the right, then click the mixer, in the next mixer window you will see all devices and applications working at the moment. You can adjust and/or mute the sound in them individually.

Question: Volume Control

I had recently bought a new computer, really nice and all. There was one problem though--when I played songs the vocals didn't play, only the background music. When this happened I freaked out until after just messing with the Volume Control a little bit I was able to fix it. Now that it's fixed I realized how much fun I could have singing to CDs without having the vocals! (yes I'm weird I would enjoy that) How do I change it back to the way it was? I've tried muting random things but it doesn't seem to do anything. In fact the only thing on the Volume Control that seems to do anything is "Wave" and the master control all the way to the left. I remember when I first looked at it a few of the other ones were muted. Anyone have any idea about what I'm talking about?

Question: Volume Control Box

Hello i came across this forum and thought maybe someone would be able to help me. i have some speakers i need to control the volume with a remote control instead of the knob on the speaker itself. Below is a list of hardward i would be using with the box.

That i Have Now:

DirecTV HD/DVR Box connected by HDMI to my TV

Bose Companion 2 Series II - PC multimedia speakers connected by 3.5mm Jack to my TV.
I dont like this because the sound is low and not the best. I have plug the speakers direct to the directv box and the sound is dramatically improved, the only problem is i can no longer control the volume using the remote. i have to use the knob on the speakers which makes it very inconvinent.

I had an idea for a simple volume control box that i think would be easy enough to make (if i knew what i needed). I put together a mock up to kinda of show you what i think would solve my problem. Do you you think it is possible? Anyways your input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:volume control

Basically what you need to do is to reinstall the sound card driver again.
So head -on to manufacturer web site ( of the sound card) and download the latest driver and install it.
If you have a OEM PC ( as in Dell, Gateway, HP etc....) go to there web site and download the driver and install it.
And windows is looking on the win98 cd because that's what windows does ...
On the other hand if can check the Device Manager and the Sound card is listed without any yellow question marks then in Control Panel under multimedia should be able to see a checkbox which will " put an icon in the system tray" which might need to be checked.

Hi and welcome

A few things you can try.

1. Do a System Restore and roll the computer back to a date before the problem started.

2. Right click on the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, then click properties, customize. Scroll down to the Volume icon and click it. Check to see if it is set to always hide, if so change it to hide when inactive or always show. then go to control panel, sounds and audio devices and check the box that says "place volume icon in the task bar". If you have reinstalled the audio drivers this should work.

Or 3. Alternatively this file could be damaged Sndvol32.exe. Check this page for more info:

Question: Volume control

What would happen if I max all five settings; will it make my speaker louder?

Answer:Volume control

If you mean the SW Synth and Input Monitor levels that are currently at minimum or muted, then no, increasing or unmuting these won't alter the volume of your speakers.

SW Synth sets the level of sounds created when something is playing the soundcard's software synthesiser ("Soundblaster" type music in some mostly older games), Input Monitor is mostly used to allow you to also hear your own voice when using a headset.

Welcome to TenForums @2whldreams

Do any other icons in this area work normally? Does anything pop up if you click on Network or (if you have one) Battery?

Do you see any text if you hover over Volume? It should normally say something like 'Speakers: 50%'.

Does your sound work, other than this problem with the volume control?

Try typing VOLUME in the Cortana/Search box next to Start, it should find 'Adjust system volume, Control panel'. Run this, can you adjust the volume here?

The Other day i realized my music was low so i went to my volume control and tried to raise the master volume. However when i did this nothing happened. For some reason i then slid up the wave bar and the volume raised. I can't figure it out. How can i get my volume to work properly. Right now my master volume is'nt controlling my volume. My wave bar is.

My volume control does 3/4 up and 1/4 down. But not all the way up. Not all the way down. Found out from someone here what the answer is:If you have Magic Jack, that is the culprit. Go to your MagicJack console. Click MENU on the upper right hand corner of the window. Pick Volume Headset Control. Choose device "Telephone". On the bottom, drag the speaker button all the way to the left.Close the window. That should make it work now. Hope that helps.

Answer:XP Volume Control does not go all the way up

Thx for info - it might help someone.

Question: Volume Control

Hey guys,I've got two questions about the volume control on windows xp (home edition). My main volume control has disapeared from the toolbar down the bottom right near the clock. I can get to it through start/accessories/entertainment. But I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get it back on the toolbar/taskbar thingy? Also, there is something i'm not too sure about with the colume control. When I'm listening to music through windows media player, I can turn it up by using the volume control on media player itself. But, i can turn it up further by going to the windows 'volume control'. But I've got realplayer as well, and when I run that program I can turn the music up even further by turning the volume up in that (even tho the mp3 is still played thru windows media player). My question is, is there a 'master control' where i can put the sound on a maximum it can possibly be?Or, should i just keep on installing new media players (i.e. quicktime, jukebox and such like) and putting them on their maximum volume to increase the overall volume?I'm not sure if I've explained this properly, but if u dont get it just say and i'll try and explain a bit more.Thnaks!

Answer:Volume Control

To get the icon back in the taskbar open control panel click sound speech and audio then click on sounds and audio and tick place icon in taskbar box there is also a speaker volume box there tick this and adjust to what you want or you can set all the volumes up full with the icon you just put on task bar by rightclicking it and selecting open volume control depending what you have there you can set master volume to full as well as wave volume and cd audio, then the apps will adjust from the max level, well in theroy anyway.lol.HTH
