Preferred Solution: Finding free Helvetica and Time family typo

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

Answer:Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

Hi,

i have recently found that my son spends alot of time on his computer and what to find out what he is up to. I was wondering if there was any free remote keyloggers that you would recommend as i am unable to get on his laptop, the keylogger would preferable be needed to be sent by email and the logs sent to my email, if that is possible.

Thanks

I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I created new Microsoft accounts for my kids and added those accounts to the child accounts in Windows 10. The problem is that the Family Safety screen time that was configured on the Microsoft website are not being enforced on the computer. I have set 2 hour daily timers for the children but they are able to use the computer beyond that 2 hour period. Is anyone else running into this problem and/ or has any figured out how to fix this bug.

Answer:Family Safety Screen Time

This is still an issue, as I am running into the same problems months later. Has anyone figured out what's wrong, or how to fix it?

I use windows 10 family safety and am generally happy with it. However there is either a bug or a feature with screen time.
I have 3 devices that my kids can log on to using their own windows 10 account. Screen time is set to 3 hours per day. Family safety correctly shuts down access to the device after three hours. However, the kid can then switch to a different device and have another 3 hours. Ie screen time appears to be per device, not per account as i would have thought it should be.

Family Safety Time Limits - Set and Manage in Windows 8

We have a Windows 8.1 computer for my daughter, and Family Safety was working fine, including Screen Time limits.

Then we went on vacation, and I turned off the Screen Time limits (by setting Set limits for when my child can use devices to Off.)

When we got home, I turned this setting back to On. All the previous time limits ("As early as," "As late as," and "Limit per day on this device") were retained - or so I thought.

It turns out the time limits are still off. When I log in with her account, there is a message that says the account is monitored by Family Safety, and the Family Safety icon appears in the Notification area, but in fact her account can be used 24 hours a day.

I have tried multiple times to reset this on the web, by changing selections, with no luck. When I log into her account on the computer and open Family Safety from the Control Panel and look at the settings, it confirms the time allowance and curfew settings have no restrictions. (These cannot be changed on the computer.)

How can I regain control of Screen Time for this account?

Normally, that would be a good thing.

But I'm pretty sure my computer is infected somehow. I've been having some internet connectivity problems for the past few months and it's not a modem issue. I've asked about it on this forum before and it was suggested I run a virus scan because I'm probably infected.

But AVG Free never finds anything and I update the virus definitions on a daily basis.

It seems suspicious to me, and I'm reluctant to install and run any other antivirus program because I had two at one time (because, I thought: "HEY! Two is more secure than one!" Boy, was I wrong! ). It totally screwed up my computer.

Anyway, should I just uninstall AVG Free and go with another (paid) Antivirus program?

Answer:AVG Free Not Finding Any Infections...

is AVG the only protection you have? seriously, get more than one, not more than one antivirus, but more than one protection. Get spybot S&D, get adaware. Those three combined make up one powerful force against viruses, adware, and spyware. Spybot is great at telling you of every single registry change made, and if you don't want it, it won't allow it. It also has a great scanner which will find problems in the registry and fix them, or find unwanted software.

It seems to me that you DON'T have a virus, which is why AVG doesn't see it. AVG free only looks for viruses. You need some other things to keep your computer safe. Try getting spybot and adaware and scan with them and see what happens then. also, try updating your AVG again, see if maybe you just haven't updated it to the latest security and you have a newer virus that it can't see.

Good morning everyone,

I was just trying to print my tickets to a concert i got thru TicketMaster. When I went to print them another browser window opened and they appeared in PDF format. No sweat I figured, so i clicked print and since by default my PC uses the PDF software installed from the OEM that i would not have any problems.

Then it saves the PDF file and when the PDF opens up there is a box saying my trial period has expired and it covers (covered) part of the ticket rendering it unusable. If I redid the process and picked my printer instead of the PDF converter software it printed just fine.

I have screenshots of my programs with the PDF software showing so you can see the version, and three screenshots of another example of what happens when i try to download or print a PDF file.

I had no idea my OEM software for PDF's was a trial, and heck it has been installed since 2012!! Hell of a long trial period!! So I am looking for the best free PDF converter and PDF reader out there.

Answer:I need help finding a (free) PDF converter.

I use the free Adobe PDF reader to view and print PDF files. No problem and it does not expire.

If you are looking for something that will convert to PDF, the free Open Office suite of programs will do that.

Otherwise, I don't know why you would want to convert something TO PDF.

I am designing a site and am looking for this font as the organisation seem to require it in their documents. I have looked on my XP Pro system and can't find it!Is this a common font?Is it a good one for websites?Where can I get it open source? Thanks

Answer:Helvetica font wanted

Helvetica is a sans serif font that is virtually identical to Arial with maybe a very slight difference in relative size.It may be that the website people use Macs because Helvetica is provided with Mac OS but not Windows XP click here. Any font that can't be relied upon to be on every PC or Mac is a bad choice for websites. click here for preferred website fonts. Sorry if this is the wrong section for this question.

We have Acrobat and Indesign documents passed around between OSX and XP users.

The problem is that on XP machines, both programs complain that the Helvetica font is missing.

I looked on the web and realise that Helvetica is a system font on OSX, but not XP.

We actually have a Linotype collection, but I tried looking through it and can't find a standard Helvetica font called "Helvetica".
They're all LT,Bold, Neue, Cyrilic, Greek, Roman, World etc etc.

Does the plain Helvetica (PS or TT) font come under any other name?

Answer:Standard Helvetica font on XP

This may be of some interest.

I use EARTHLINK as an ISP (DIAL-UP) and for the most part I am happy with it. The only problem I have... and I would say its about 40% of the time... when I go to check my mail using OUTLOOK EXPRESS it will just pause for an extended period of time and it will say FINDING HOST. Then it will time out.

Then... the next time I try, a few minutes later, it will work. This problem occurs anytime... during busy afternoons or even 3am in the morning.

Any ideas as to why this is happening SO OFTEN? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Help in finding FREE driver updates?

I'm not sure which drivers you need but you should download & try running "Snappy Driver Installer", it'll detect all your hardware that needs drivers & install them all for you in a few clicks. Its a very big file but its worth the wait. You can create a system restore point too before you choose to install the drivers in case something goes wrong, but I've used it twice now with no problems and I think its a well recommended utility. It saved me many hours of searching for drivers!

Hope it helps!

I was curious where I would be able to find some software that doesn't ask you to change your homepage, installs toolbars, or some software will not install unless you pick a bloatware to install (eg. must change homepage, otherwise, software won't install)?

Not sure if this is just a change in the times. Back in the day (eg. 5-10 years ago), you were able to get software without it asking you to install a toolbar, change your homepage or having it install things without your permission.

Answer:Finding bloatware free software

Well now days you have to watch all the sites. They change contently. You not only have to un-check things you don't want you also have to go through the user agreements because sometimes they hide things in there.
Babylon will add things even if you select you don't want them.

Hi all,

Just out of nowhere, a number of websites started displaying Helvetica Narrow font instead of Arial font.

I think only Arial is affected, and I have seen others having the same issue and all they could do was to delete Helvetica Font... The actual font displayed is Helvetica Narrow, but when you copy it and paste it in Word, it's recognised as Helvetica Regular.

Yes, I have additional fonts installed, but this issue only appeared to me now. Same thing happened at some point in the past on Windows 7, so it's not just Windows 10 issue.

It's not to do with a particular browser, it's all of them: Opera, FF, Chrome, Edge, IE. For example, Facebook, eBay, and many many others that I think are using Arial font.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Maciek

Hey folks,

I have Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010.

Some time back, I created a presentation on PowerPoint, and I wanted the typeface to be Helvetica, and I don't remember how I did it, but I somehow got Helvetica into it.

But my C://Windows/Fonts folder doesn't have Helvetica in it.

And when I create a blank presentation, Helvetica is not one of the typeface choices.

Anyone have a clue why I have this situation?

And here's what I want: I want Helvetica to be one of the typeface choices in Microsoft Word.

Thanks!

Arial in Windows is a "clone" of helvetica.

Could be a HD problem. Have you run a chkdsk?

CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Let me start from the beginning. Roughly around last weekend (4/21/2012) it seemed my email was infected with something or somewhat, as it sent emails to my entire address list. I panicked and ran Malwarebytes, SpyBot, as well as the Symantec Anti-Virus program that I've had since a college student (free and given away by the school, a requirement when accessing their internet). After cleaning it up, I went and got the AVG 2012 antivirus program (free version) and sent it to go look for problems the previous three had possibly missed. After that was done, I kept AVG and this happens to be the second time I've gotten the same 14-15 trojans/viruses that Resident Shield has detected.

I established this Bleeping Computer account at the start of my little ordeal and only now did I think I've gone too far in to positively say I can handle it on my own. So I come to y'all for help. I admit I'm not the most vigilant of a computer user. I play online games and I also go to unscrupulous websites, which I think this is karma for me doing so.

But beyond that, I'm not exactly well off financially and can't exactly afford to replace this computer of mine, even to upgrade to something newer. If more information is needed, I'm willing to put it up. As of right now I do not see any adverse problems these are causing to my system, just my peace of mind, especially when AVG's Resident Shield goes off and lists all these things I had thoguht were cleared o... Is there any application that comes with Windows 10, that will show the hard-drive storage usage and free space?

I do not mean an application that will show usage and free space for each partition (disk). Such data is rather inconvenient, when one wants to know how much is left on a complete hard drive. Thanks.

Answer:Finding the free space on a hard drive

Used space and usable space of an HDD will never be completely accurate as there will be 2 or more partitions created during a normal installation of Windows and 1 or more of those 'extra' partitions will be unusable or inaccessible, won't have a drive letter which is required to allow File Explorer to have access. Some of the 'extras' are created by the manufacturer of the computer and/or by Windows. There is the built-in Disk Management of Windows but there's other programs both paid and free available on the 'net that may do a better job for what you desire.

Hello I've posted this at another forum but they didn't have any answers at all, so I'm coming to you guys and I really hope someone can shed some light onto this.
My level of experience is beginner to intermediate, depending. I've copied and pasted from the previous forum as it's set up neatly:

Problem: I naively replaced my current fonts folder with a backup from my Windows 7 RTM build fonts folder -- as I had just upgraded. Now, firefox is incorrectly displaying Helvetica (I believe that's the culprit) font at larger/normal size and not reverting to Arial once I remove Helvetica. Cyrillic characters show instead of the actual text, unless I zoom out the font.

Operating System, Version and Service Pack: Windows 7 Ultimate.

Web Browser and Version: Firefox 3.5.8 (3.6 does the same thing, so I just reverted back so I can at least use my theme).

Your level of experience: Intermediate-ish. I know my way around the PC and know how to do most troubleshooting things.

When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? It started yesterday after re-installing Windows 7 (installed a new mb, cpu and hdd) and then installing Firefox, as well as a copy of my old Fonts folder (the latter never caused trouble when I first went to Windows 7 last October).

Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? I've attempted to remove Helvetica (as well as Helvetica Neue -- the latter which I cannot delete because it is 'in use), Arial, Calibri and any other potential 'corrup... Read more

It's not very readable at all for me.

Answer:Possible font rendering issues with Helvetica Neue?

Had to install the font, but, yeah, looks like yours exactly:

Hi all
I have run into a little trouble. Im trying to work out why my internet browsers IE, FF and Chrome seem to be defaulting to Helvetica Neue which is a font I installed by dragging and dropping it into the Windows/Fonts folder. It installed fine but Chrome has decided to use that font to display some web pages. Not all web pages though, only web pages which do not have CSS font-styling. It seems to use set the font as a default web font. Most websites have a preferred font programmed in but there a few that doesn't and it is becoming quite frustrating.

I have gone into my Windows 7 control panel person settings and find the font to no avail. Everything is Segoe UI. I have tried to set everything to Tahoma which works for most things but not my browser.

I cannot delete the font because it is in use.

I am lost and would really appreciate some help on this please.

Here is an example. One website which is doing this.

Alright, this time I am looking for a program that works with firefox, what I am looking for is something that will block all cookies except ones from domains/websites I have on an allow list. Like if I just had say sevenforums.com it would accept cookies from sevenforums.com but would block any other cookie period since they are not in the safe/allow list. I checked firefox plugins and download.com for something like this and haven't been able to find one yet. So here I am asking for your help since you guys and gals always seem to know where to find this stuff.

I work and that software on the ipod touch is perfect for tracking my hours but thats not my ipod touch so i have to find a software thats simular to it that will work on windows vista. Of the software i tried none are near as good. Can you point me out to some software that works the same and is not too complicated? I just want something that you can clock in and out and make it easy to see how much you work on a specific date.I might have to buy a ipod touch just for that software because windows vista isnt powerful enough to handle it.

I recently switched from OE to WLM because I purchased a new laptop (Win 8.1). I incorrectly assumed, since OE is about 8 years old, WLM would be far more advanced in every aspect.

A huge annoyance is: whenever I need to find a folder in Storage Folders, instead of keying the first letter of the folder I seek, as with OE, I must scroll down to find it. To make matters worse; all of the Storage Folders are expanded to reveal the sub folders by default. So, as I scroll down, each time, I must manually collapse each expanded folder.

I would very much appreciate a way to cause WLM Storage Folders to behave like OE.

Answer:Finding a WLM Storage Folder (Must I scroll each time?)

Have you tried Thunderbird? It's a lot like OE and has AddOns for customized Buttons, behavior etc..

What I like about it is it works the same way from XP onwards. Also you can access many web accounts using pop3 protocols.

It's very stable and predictable(and free.)

As an example I have 2 columns, A and B - both respectively titled Date and Time.In A2 I have: 4/03/2012In A3 I have: 8/03/2012In B2 I have: 20:34:09And finally in B3 I have: 17:35:40So basically I'd like to find out the time between "4/03/2012 20:34:09" and "8/03/2012 17:35:40".Currently I have: =(A3+B3)-(A2+B2) in the cell A5.This works as it shows "3/01/1900 21:01" which is the day and time difference between the two. Also in cell A6 I have a formula which represents this in a nice format: =TEXT(A5, "dd hh:mm:ss"). So the above result looks like "03 21:01:31".However the problem occurs when A3 is changed to "4/03/2012". Since now A6 shows "#VALUE!" when it should show: 00 02:58:29 . Also A5 shows #####.....etcI am not quite sure on how to solve this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated!Essentially the problem occurs when the end time is less than the start time.

Answer:Finding the time between two different times in excel issue

Excel does not allow negative TIME, so if the Start Time is before the End Time you will always get an error. You can always do a check with an IF to see if the Start Time is before the End Time and either reverse you calculations or pop up a message, or simply blank/zero out the answer.Something like:=IF(ISERROR((A3+B3)-(A2+B2)),"Error",(A3+B3)-(A2+B2))or=IF(ISERROR((A3+B3)-(A2+B2)),(A2+B2)-(A3+B3),(A3+B3)-(A2+B2))EDIT: Just did some checking and the above does not work. Will have to play with this a bit.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

So just a small backstory, I lost my other USB which is the SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8 GB, I don't know where I placed it. My theories are it was accidentally swept when our house is being cleaned or someone stole it because last Monday or Tuesday, an ISP guy went here to fix our internet. I couldn't remember where the USB was placed, it was either near the phone that was being fixed or up stairs. There was no important data on it, the contents was just the Memtest 86+ and some music and videos. So now, my new USB will arrive 6 hours from now. Is there any tracking software that is free that I can install so just in case that someone stole it, I can find it.

For the missing USB, is there any chance that I can find it (I presumed that it's stolen as I searched our entire house)? I don't want to call for a complaint for the ISP as I could be wrong. Here's the info about my lost/stolen USB.

I recently installed a font called Helvetica Neue on my PC so I can use it in Photoshop. After installing it, it appears the stupid OS decided to automatically throw it into Google Chrome and Firefox displaying the font in all major websites such as eBay or Facebook. It has become annoying, and it's definitely a non natural feel. I've tried the extensions from the Google store to change it back to normal but it appears that the text settings have either Times New Roman or Arial installed, there's no sign of Helvetica. I really don't want to reinstall windows again, I never did anything to the OS other than dropping the font files onto the Windows's Font control panel. How do I get rid of it as deleting it would tell me an app is using it, and when there's no app using it pressing delete does nothing at all. It feels like a virus!

Another reason to dislike Windows 10

I have an older computer, Compaq Presario 4770 with a Pentium 200 processor, 32 MB RAM, running Windows 98. I am looking for FREE firewall and antivirus programs that will run on my system. I have tried Avast, AVG, and Zone Alarm, but they all require a faster processor and won't work properly. I cannot afford upgrading or buying new. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try?

Answer:Need help finding free antivirus and firewall programs for older computer

Avast will run on this PC. See: http://www.avast.com/eng/system-requirements-avast-home.html

With this processor speed and such a low amount or RAM you will find that after adding the necessary protection tools you are going to be running rather slow and will be limited in how many windows/processes you can have running simultaneously.

You can check out the other firewalls (and other tools ) mentioned in the below link to see if they support your system.

It does not have a e-mail scanner but that should not be a problem if you configure it for optimum protection. Take off scan boot sectors only. Put everything at the highest option. We followed the instructions to scan and moved the detected malware to quarantine. Other various malwares were subsequently detected on 8-9-12; 8-10-12; and again today also moved to quarantine. The detections indicate from the Alvira reports that the viruses were found on the C: and E: drives.

I ran free version of Malware Bytes at the inception (8-9-12) of the detected virus and it stated it found 1 virus and moved it to quarantine. I mistyped a url earlier (I believe i typed 'radiosahck' instead of radioshack) and was redirected to a strange website (something about internet surveys I believe) I closed it right away and did a quick scan with malwarebytes to make sure nothing was wrong, and it came up empty. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

Hey all...

Does anyone know of some good free (or inexpensive) software that will install on top of WinXP and control/limit usage on the computer by certain accounts? I'm specifically looking for software that will allow a certain user account to stay logged in for a limited amount of time.

I'm building a PC for my aunt and one of the things she really wants is to have some sort of software that will actively enforce a time limit for each of her kids' computer usage.

Of primary concern is the time limit functionality, logging of sessions would be good too but not totally necessary. The software should be fairly bullet proof because kids are smart these days.

Any idears?

Hi can someone please help clear up my concerns because I accidentally interned the wrong DNS address on my new router.
After entering this typo I almost immediately that my connection was unstable especially on Linux and yesterday evening when I logged back into my router the DNS settings were set to there defaults. But I was able to surf the web kinda in Windows though it timed out often and certain webpages wouldn't even open, and now when ever I enter the correct DNS settings it disconnects from the internet.

Here's what I entered

222.67.222.222
220.67.220.220

Instead of

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?

Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:

1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably 192.168.1.1 or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all

2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?

I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

Either:
? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing the red typo lines when there are no typos. This happens on occasion when I'm typing emails and posting or responding to forums. It seems to occur when there is an actually typo and I correct the error. After that the entire post/email from that point on will have the red typo lines.

For example it is happening now... I'll try to post a pic for a better understanding.

Has anyone experience this as well and most importantly does anyone know of a solutions to this?

My unit is new and I have yet to DL Office 365 so I don't have Word. Not sure if that will matter.

Memory corruption caused by an unknown driver. Please run memtest and driver verifier.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

for your information:

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "Googkle.com" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. The malware includes: Trojan droppers, Trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy Trojan and a spying Trojan. A few adware-related files are also installed, the firm said.

I'm just setting up a new computer, and not used to the keyboard. When I was installing the operating system I was asked for a User name. Before I had a chance to do anything it had accepted the name GREU and moved on to the next step. No back button! Bloody i7's, so fast!

I've tried doing a search in regedit for GREU, changed it in one place, but its still showing up all over. Is there a complete fix to this or should I resign myself to being known as Greu for the next few years?

Answer:Typo when entering user name - I'm now Greu!

Purchased a new laptop and skipped making the MS email but created a password for my account. When I booted up my pc later on I was greeted with an incorrect password message. I must have made a typo in the pw set up because it does not work.I also didnt create a recovery disk because I had literally only used it for 30 mins before turning it off and this problem was the last thing I ever expected to happen. There is only one account and it's the one that is locked. A to rendered a $600 purchase obsolete until I can fix it.All help is appreciated.

NAME: Googkle
ALIAS: Googkle.com

Summary

Also a few adware-related files are installed.

The name of the malicious website is 'Googkle.com'. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE! Otherwise your computer will get infected! We have reported the case to the authorities.

Detailed Description

Our investigation revealed that the whole infection starts from the 'googkle.com' website. This website, as well as a few related websites are owned by people with Russian names. Also several malicious files that are downloaded from these websites have Russian texts.

I think this is a virus behavior. Recently whenever I type in microsoft waord or notepad or fill up webforms in IE, the cursor jumps anywhere in the previous sentences, or highlights the last some letters somewhere and the entire type goes haywaire. Now Also this is getting typed anywhere and I have to delete, retype. very painful. I have Norton antivirus 2005, zerospyware (after reading the latest article in your mag only), adware, spybot and zone alarm, all fully updated. and none have been able to pick up a virus/spyware after a thorough system scan. I am going crazy typing, especially when i am prescribing medicines to my patients. I don't want to reload windows and all my applications again.Pl HelpDr Alok Modi MD

Hi,

I am having a problem when i misspell URLs.

When i type things like google.con instead of .com, i am redirected to a host of different search sites, including searchathand.com, and daplaces.com. I am pretty sure i must be infected with something, but i have ran several online and offline spyware and malware scanners and nothing seems to find a problem.

I am running Firefox version 1.5.0.6, but the problem also occurs in IE as well.

Advise please!

Cheers

Joel

Edit: I seem to have found what i think is the culprit for this...but this leads to another problem.

There is a HJT entry stating
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A2EA3617-0DD4-4C7B-89EC-1F1FB24D96E1}: NameServer = 85.255.114.7 85.255.112.174

I have removed this on a couple of occasions and it only returns a few minutes later.

Help please!!!

Heads up about a string of blogs using familiar names like FileHippo and Softpedia in their URL, when searching for software downloads. I cannot guarantee their legitimacy, or safety to visit or download from these rip-off blogs.

Searching "avast 2017" in Google Search Engine crops up with many blogs using SEO techniques to distract users from the real FileHippo and Softpedia sites.

So I decided to buy Windows 7 from eBay. I didn't trust the people selling product keys only, so I purchased a brand new retail package. When I shop on eBay, I always look for sellers that are really close to me so shipping is fast. So I found a seller, said to be located in Maryland (which is two states away from me), with a great price and great feedback for his W7 sells. I was pissed because when the guy sent me the tracking number, I found out that the item was coming from Beijing, China, not Maryland! But I figured, well at least he shipped it.

THEN, I get an email from eBay saying the listing for the item I just purchased because the copyright holder reported that the item may be a counterfeit. At first I was pissed at eBay because now I had to record of the transaction in my eBay account and could not contact the seller directly from within the item invoice, since eBay deleted. Plus, he had several other sells of this same item, all with positive feedback of the W7 package, and eBay did not remove the listings for them. So I was like, why me? Luckily, I had his email from paypal and contacted him. He assured me that he is the legal owner of the item and that he sent proof to eBay saying so. Still never got my records back.

Anyway, this prompted me to search counterfeit Windows 7 retail packages. I found some interesting info, but my package doesn't fit any of the counterfeit profiles Microsoft says to look out for. The top hologram is built onto the ... Read more

Answer:My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

It's fake, that's pretty obvious. The hologram thing is most likely a sticker on top of the actual disc surface - you can use a fingernail or razor blade at the very edge and lift it up a bit, that's 100% proof. The part numbers don't seem to match up with the actual Windows 7 Ultimate part number, and it just has a fake quality all the way around.

If you contact Microsoft, show them the pics, explain where you bought it from and your situation, there is a small - small but it exists - chance they'll provide you with a key just for making the report and identifying the seller you got it from.

No guarantees, but at the moment you're better off reporting it to them and going from there. Sure can't hurt to let them know, either way.

I'd report it, personally, without even really thinking about it. It just SCREAMS fake.
