I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: windows service pack 1,security update for windows 7 fail updates

Try System Restore to before the problem began. This might force Updates to install correctly this time.

If not work through these steps:
Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Forums
System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

If these don't help check the System File integrity: SFC /SCANNOW Command

Greetings to everyone from Puerto Rico. Let me start off by explaining that I have had this problem for a week or 2 and I have searched everywhere on the internet and have followed all the advice I have read and still nothing, it has come to the point I registered here to see if someone could help me because I'm just frustrated and mad at this point.

I think this problem is common enough and I know a lot of users have gone through the same.

I have added the CheckSur.log and CheckSur.persist.log

Any and all help will be appreciated, thank you for your time.

Answer:Windows Service Pack 1 Update fail Code 800B0100

Hi and welcome to seven forums,

I don't know for sure as it was a long time ago for me but I think I had an issue installing service pack one and it was all down to windows defender.

I think I either disabled it while installing or uninstalled it and then reinstalled it after.

Might not work for you but worth a shot.
Paul.

i tried to update my machine... i used windows update, it failed on 7 of the 8 critical updates. i tried it again, it happened again.

i'm guessing i have some kind of virus. that goodoo shit i had keeps popping up, and i dont know where it comes from, so i dont know how to get rid of it.

when i hit netstat -a... all the ports that say "listening" and would normally have the foreign address be the name of the computer you're on... they all say 00.goodoo.ru.
suggestions?

Answer:all the security updates from windows update fail?

I had a similar problem... seems windows decided all of the critical updates didn't pass the logo test... funny.

Hi,

I cannot install this as I keep getting an error saying it cannot be installed. I don't necessarily want it, I just don't want the update to display anymore. Is this possible?

Do I need another update to replace it?

Thank you,

Hi

It seems like my Windows 7 Professional on my VAIO (this is my primary developing machine; I travel a lot...) has some serious issues with the update mentioned in the title. Windows Update will always try to install it - but it never works. The update services are unable to identify the source of the problem and so it keeps bugging me quite a little.

I have also noticed that recently every few times I start the system, a hard disk check is done including a full workup and analysis of the filesystem's NTFS tables and structures which of course takes quite some time. However, no problems have been found so far. I wonder if this might be connected to the other problem.

Does anybody have an idea what might fix this? Thanks in advance^^

Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

Hi, l've been having a constant issue with my computer and I can't seem to get out of this trouble no matter how many times I reinstall and even wipe out my hard drive.

I wiped out everything in my hard drive and installed windows 7 Ultimate for the '7th' time, and the same problems happen every single time.

Right after the install, it seems to work fine but as I install numerous windows updates as it recommended (almost forced me to, 'cause it does automatically), my computer becomes so slow in everything.

It doesn't start up, the menu and such looks as if I'm in a safe mode (blocky and old looking) even if I manage to start it up, have to wait more than 15min or even 1hr for it to respond.

The situation I'm having now is, the pop up message saying:
"Failed to connect to a windows service: windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This prevents standard user from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond"

Also, the computer has been failing at installing several updates such as:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2763523)(KB2719857)(KB2735855)(KB2750841)(KB2732059)

Because of that, it sometimes ran chkdsk on the boot screen and deleted/fixed files.

I don't think it's ... Read more

I just installed a new hd for my hp 9500 laptop and tried to recover using recovery discs many times. After many errors and freezes it finally went through. Once I was able to get it back on line I ran a check disk and both drives passed. Now while trying to recover my original settings I downloaded all the updates and the computer worked out fine. To include all my settings I also re-downloaded pc tools internet security, pc tools performance kit, itunes, divx player, and iobit uninstaller. Again, everything went well. Then I updated Windows pack 1 and everything started to slow down and crash!!! Finally, all I was getting was an error code and could not boot up anymore. I rechecked my hard disk and it told me to replace it.... Again, I tried to recover and actually was successful.. Also I reran the check disk and now all my hds PASSED... What gives??? Was it my HD or my installation of windows pack 1.. should I dump my hd anyway....and is it necessary to have that update?? HELP S.O.S!!!!

Please help, I'm not highly technical and I think my problems started a while ago when Vista Service Pack 2 failed to install which caused startup failure and I couldn't log in. I attempted a fix using startup repair and was able to login again but now all my Vista updates since then fail to install and today my computer is running extremely slow, constantly lagging. I think it's related. I also get 'windows installer service could not be accessed' issues so can not run Hijackthis. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same issue when they tried to update Windows Vista SP1 to SP2. The reason I was trying to update is to update to Internet Explorer 9 for 6 as its my wifes laptop that she very rarely uses. I thought it would be quite easy to do but tried several times and still no joy.
The message that comes up is ERRORNOTFOUND(0x80070490)which I'm aware means Windows cannot search for updates.
I have checked for updates and the following is trying to update but also fails : Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5710 running Vista SP1 32 bit
Finally I have no repair disc as this is already installed so I tried a reboot, F8 and repair and that also failed....
Any suggestion what to try next??
Many thanks

i just updated my windows xp w/ service pack 2 not too long ago. i have been trying to setup a wireless home network over the past week, and i have been working through security problems.

an associate of linksys told me that the updated svc. pack will not allow me to use any of the sercurity measures it provides (WEP) except for MAC address filter. that's fine, but i would like to add my parents computer to the filter and i'm unable to find an address on it (win 2000) ... i'm beginning to think that no such thing exists.

so in order for their computer to access the wireless router ... i have to have all security disabled, which i'm not happy about.

Question 1: Is it true that the xp svc. pack 2 will not permit me to use WEP encryption security?

Question 2: Does my parents computer have a MAC address that I can put in the filter?

Thanks ...

Answer:XP Service Pack 2 Updates and Wireless Security

Question 2's answer:
Ok, you need to get the mac address of your parents computer thats running win 2000. You can do this several ways, here is one. Click on start, then Run.
Type cmd and press enter. It will pop up a command prompt. In there you need to type ipconfig /all

You will get something that looks like this:

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX

That would be the MAC address of their network adapter.

Add that to the filter and it should be peachy keen.

Windows XP Unofficial Service Pack 4 Gets Significant Updates

Windows XP no longer receives support since April 2014, but users who are yet to upgrade have already found several ways to keep their computers patched.

And one such way is the so-called Windows XP Unofficial Service Pack 4, which has recently received a new update with improvements and fresh updates.

It?s worth mentioning from the very beginning that this service pack wasn?t created by Microsoft, and if you?re still on Windows XP, you have all the reasons in the world to consider upgrading to a newer version of the operating system.

What?s new in version 3.0
Windows XP SP4 Unofficial version 3.0 and 3.1a, which both debuted this week, come with all the POSReady updates released by Microsoft until January 2016 (since Windows XP no longer receives support, updates for the POSReady version can also be installed on this version and address some of the security holes that might exist in the operating system).

At the same time, the version update also brings fixes for a number of issues reported by users in the previous releases, as well as patches for the false positive malware warnings that some users have been getting in version 2.

Additionally, if you install this new version of the service pack, you also get live installation, proper integration of the latest time zone update, as well as fixes for DxDiag registry errors.

Keep in mind, however, that even if you install this service pack, y... Read more

Answer:Windows XP Unofficial Service Pack 4 Gets Significant Updates

Windows XP is dead and it is better this way, only some niche users should still use it, the rest are much better using something like Linux Mint Xfce Edition or Windows 10 if the hardware can run it.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Automatic Updates

Hi All,

Microsoft is committed to providing quality products to customers. As part of this commitment, we would like to remind you that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) will be released to Automatic Updates shortly. The third service pack to Windows XP includes the previously released updates and hotfixes to Windows XP, creating a new baseline for servicing.

Optional Actions

If you wish to prevent users from installing Windows XP SP3 through Automatic Updates, Microsoft recommends you take one or more of the following steps:

1. Download and deploy the Windows Service Pack Blocker Kit. The Blocker Toolkit is available in the Microsoft Download Center.

2. Deploy an update management solution that provides full control over the updates you deploy to computers in your network (Compare Update Management Solutions). IT Administrators using an update management solution should use their productís standard features, rather than the Blocker Toolkit, to control SP1 distribution.

Answer:Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Automatic Updates

Thank you Nick. Now we only need to find out which countries this applies to. The last time Microsoft issued a statement about the SP3 release it caused a telephone storm in several countries - people called their national Microsoft service because they could not find the download link.

It wasn't until weeks later that the last of the countries got access to their service pack in their own language.

Microsoft apparently haven't learned or will they service all countries simoultaniously this time?

But I get stuck at the double click on DataStore folder. I cannot gain access. I am using administrator.
Adobe can't read it. The message I get is-"Adobe Reader could not open DataStore.edb because it
is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged".

When I ran Filecure it indicated "no problems". So I am at a loss as to how to access the files so I can
delete them (per directions at link provided).

Answer:Solved: Windows Update Error 8007002-Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330)

Ok, a lot of you have looked at this question, but nobody has responded. Is it because it's not an important update? Or is it too old a problem (going back to 4/09)? Or some other reason? I can't believe no one knows the answer to my question since I've asked much more obscure questions in the past and gotten answers. So PLEASE, if someone could clarify what I'm dealing with I would offer techie sainthood upon you.

I recently had to rebuild the Window 7 Home Premium X64 on my Gateway NV59 laptop. I used the recovery CDs from Gateway to do this.

So all I currently have is the OS and applications that were reinstalled from these CDs except the Norton Antivirus which I uninstalled since I use McAfee. I have not installed the McAfee yet.

I have installed approximately 160 updates successfully. Unfortunately the following 3 updates continue to fail:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64 (KB2676562)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64 (KB2724197)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 fo X64 (KB976932)

I even tried to install each seperately but had no success. I have attached the error message that I see when the installaton fails.

Any ideas as to why these will not install?

Answer:Three Windows Security Updates continue to fail installation

That normally means your computer is infected.
If it was my computer I would start with these.

Follow all instructions in READ & RUN ME FIRST, then post the logs in the malware forum.
It's likely that those service entries have been wiped by a ZeroAccess infection.

Hello,

Could someone help me out with this question. Is there a program that will run on your computer to check if Windows XP is in need of any critical updates or updated patches? By the way, not sure what patches mean. That will show you my computer IQ. If someone could assist me, it would be appreciated.

Adam

Answer:Program to check for critical updates and updated patches for Windows XP Service Pack

Hello Adam, Welcome to TSF!

If you go Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Automatic Updates > set the updates to Automatic (recommended) you should not have any problems obtaining updates (patches), because your system will do it for you in the background.

To check if you have missed any updates, go Start > All Programs > Windows Updates (It's located on the top left of the All Programs screen) > follow the on-screen prompts.

Try these two methods and post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

I am using windows 7 ultimate. Recently I updated it to the latest release of service pack 1 update of windows 7. Since I reboot the system after update, none of my drives (including system drive) open on double clicking it. I already tried rolling back updates by uninstalling it and system restore.. but no luck,, Though I can open my drives from selecting it using location bar. I didn't turn on encryption for the drives or uninstalled drivers, antivirus before making the update. I don't suspect no malware or virus.

Here is an image of an error message it gives on double clicking any of the drives:

I am running Windows XP home edition on my PC. I started to update Windows by installing service pack 2 for Windows. Partly through installation I received an error message that said the installation had to quit because of errors. I then kept receiving an error dialogue box that said "APPLICATION ERROR SMSPAINT.exe the instruction at "0x77e7650d" referenced memory at "0xc670ffbc". The memory could not be read. I rebooted in safe mode but I continue to receive this error message or a dialogue box that reads an error message  "APPLICATION ERROR DSUOEX32.EXE". Is there any way to remove these files? I have run a search for file but nothing comes up.

Do you have Windows Updates turned on ?? This is the easy way.
Each month M/soft releases Updates and Security Patches for your system.
Go to Control Panel and make sure you have Updates Enabled -

Or go Start > Programs > and open Windows Updates, then install all Express or Important Updates offered.

Hello there again!
Friend of mine told that this is a very good place where can ask no matter what kind of questions, and they'll help you out really soon. So I thought I'm going to take everything out of it

So, the problem is, that I want to installate an update of Windows XP Service Pack from v1.0 to v2.0. First, I downloaded the software from Microsoft's website, but after I had finished downloading it, I started to installate the patch. But it didn't even started well yet, when it gave me an error message, where it said that the installation language is different than patch language. So I tried to find the Windows XP Service Pack 1 from: "Start - Control Panel - Add or remove programs (don't know what is it on English, but I think you know what I mean)" but I couldn't find it there. Is there a way how to check the current installation language of Windows XP Service Pack 1 software?

Oh, and if you have anyquestions of Flash ActionScript 2.0 (still learning CS3 with AS3.0, but I know somethings of it as well) you can ask. I've been working with Flash since year 2003, but I had one year break, but I do know a lot of things of it. I jsut have to installate Flash again back to my computer, because I jsut reinstalled my own Windows.

Thank you guys, you definetily know what you're doing and saying here. Thanks a lot!

For those who waited for SP3 to show up on Windows update it's there I just checked.
Sorry if somebody posted this already.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929)
Typical download size: 66.9 MB , 22 minutes
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is an update to Windows XP that addresses key feedback from our customers and is a cumulative update that includes all previously released updates for Windows XP, including security updates. Windows XP SP3 contains a small number of new updates and should not significantly change the Windows XP experience. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer

Answer:Service pack 3 on Windows update.

Yup its out, just found out because I did a fresh install of XP Pro SP2 on a laptop. But I thought SP3 was supposed to 350~400 mb? Where is the rest of it and what about the over 90 hot fixes from SP2 that am currently still missing, that would have normally been downloaded after doing a clean install??

Numbers don't add up unless this a seriously compressed service pack...

Windows Update will install every update but Windows Service Pack of any number. I have tried to install it manually, I have switched off my computer Protection I have engaged Windows Troubleshoot, which made changes that are said to be Fixed On each ocasion I get a failed notice on restart.I have now discovered that it is an attempt to install the 'service pack' on each and every occasion on logoff that prompted a previous thread as to why I had 1 update on each occcasion on shutdown.I know now that I can hide this to stop the repeat. I'm running Windows 7 and service packs are deemed important, anyone ideas what is the matter and how I can resolve the installation problem?

Answer:Windows Update, not service pack?

SP for Win 7 is that important? Win 8 just around the corner at the end of 2012 possibly?
If it won't install just hide the update and leave well lone.
I've just uninstalled it via safemode.

Long before only (nearly more than 2 months before), I got the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 into my Windows Update folder. From then onwards, whenever I am trying to install this update, after long delay, I am getting the error message something like Windows update could not install this update. More than 10 times I tried.

What could be the problem? Can anybody please suggest what to do to solve this problem?

I am attaching the screenshot for your reference.

I have a Gateway "Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3" with 298GB capacity and 214GB free space and it is running slow.

It seems like my computer is constantly revving up, making noises like it does when I'm doing a full virus scan using Vipre.

I keep getting notices that Service Pack 3 can't be updated. I was wondering if this is causing my computer to run slow.

I don't know a lot about computers, but I checked the Task Manager and it shows that the CPU is constantly spiking, because of Firefox and "Plugin-Container.exe."

I read that if you can't update your computer, then you'll have problems. So I don't know if Firefox/Plugin-Container.exe is causing my computer to crawl or if it's because I can't update Service Pack 3. (I also notice that Firefox and Plugin-Container.exe take up a lot of memory usage.)

I read on the Internet about Firefox's plug-ins being a problem but I'm not advanced enough to fix it. Is there any way that I can remedy this or do I have to use a different browser?

Also, why can't I update Service Pack 3?

Thanks!

I am having issues installing MS .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 Service Pack1 Security Update for Win XP( KB 953297) The yellow shield indicates this new update is ready to install but every time i try to install this automatic update i get failure and error message code Ox643.I am not alone i am sure with this problem as i have accessed MS sites and many folks are experiencing same problem.MS own site for troubleshooting this issue has not solved my problem.I have also tried getting rid of flash.ocx and swflash.ocx and this still doesn;t work. Also tried, cranking in "Notepad C:/remove.bat" in RUN and entering both "NETSTOP WUAUSERV" and NETSTOPCryptSvc" and this also did not do the trick. Also had problem of finding this update in ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAM or the .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 SERVICE PACK 1. It is not easy to identify in ADD or REMOVE.Does anyone know a fix for this issue?? The yellow shield continues to linger on my system tray telling me the install is ready. Would appreciate anyhelp with regard to this.I am contcated MS and am awaiting their response.

Answer:.Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update

The 'fix' seems to be to uninstall the 1.1, reboot, then reinstall it and then get the MS updates and apparently they go in smooth.

When I'm using the PC Settings app (Update and recovery) it seems almost all my Windows Updates fail with error 80200011. However, if I go to the desktop Windows Update and do the update from there, it succeeds.

Stranger still, if I check the update history from within the Desktop Windows Update, it shows every attempt to update and shows them failing. If I check the Update History from within the Metro app, it says the last update performed was on December 15th.

I have a Surface Pro 2 and I know that I installed the Firmware update from Microsoft around December 13th, so that might be related. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Answer:Windows Updates fail from within Update App in Metro

hi, are you running windows 8.1 or windows 8? You may need to install pre-requisite updates through the windows 8 update software before you can use the metro update app. You could try and reinstall the operating system and see how that goes or if it still troubles you, contact the Microsoft helpdesk!

I've been attempting to work on fixing this problem myself, but so far have been unable to get rid of the issue(s) on my own. I came here following a link on a Google Group forum that talked about Google links redirecting to the wrong sites. The following is a break down of what is going on:

My wife and I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (presumably the 64-bit version). We have not had Internet access for it at home, and so have not been able to run updates for the anti-virus and OS straight out of the box. The laptop came with a 30-day trial of Norton preinstalled. It's been connected to the Internet once or twice, while my wife surfed the web at one of our family's houses.

A few weeks after that, we were able to get Internet access within our own home. The first time I noticed something was up was when I tried to run a search in Google and clicked on what appeared to be a legitimate link for a legitimate website in Internet Explorer. The link instead directed the browser to another search engine with link slightly related to my original search topic. At that point I knew something was up.

After doing some research on a different computer, I realized that we've managed to contract malware that I'm not able to get rid of on my own, as it appears to reset after rebooting. I've seen a few other posts with issues similar to mine, and so I believe someone here will be able to help me.

I have updated Norton to the mos... Read more

Error code 5 usually crops up when access is denied. Try to install the SP2 again this time right-clicking on the update before you press install and choosing the Run as Administrator option.
If you resolve this then you may find that IE9 will install.

for about 3 going on 4 hours?I'm updating my Windows XP computer, and the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard is going on for many hours. Is that okay?It seems to be stuck on performing cleanup, but it seems as if this performing cleanup is the LAST step because it says finishing installation. I might just let it run through the night if I have to. Just wondering is this okay/normal for it to go this long. Also, if I have to cancel the update, is it possible that it would affect my computer in a horrible way? Meaning, would my computer still be able to start up?I created a system restore point just in case the update doesn't work out in my favor [  ] and I also saw that a checkpoint of the update said creating a restore point so I have two now.

Answer:Is it normal for the Windows XP Service Pack 2 update to run...

When I get to the update "Windows office XP service pack 3" I can't get it to work. It brings up the grey box and says "installing windows office xp service pack 3" then doesn't do anything. I have let it run for hours and have tried several times. What could be causing this problem?

Answer:Can Update Windows Office Xp Service Pack 3

The service pack 3 for XP is a Beta version and is comprised of a collection of hotfixes that are all from Microsoft but some of them have not been tested and there is concern for this causing instability issues. Microsoft has a bad reputation for their Beta versions being left to the public to de-bug, in short if you use a Beta version you get what ever surprises comes with it. Personally I wouldn't install it on my computer.

It really appears to me given the positive results of the users that tried the method stated in your link that that is your way to go.It has been some time since i installed that update on this laptop so i don't remember if there was a distinction between a 32 or 64 bit O/S  in regards to the SP1 (but i feel confident you would have looked for that).I would try the method in your link (if you have the discs.)truenorth

The main and most important being Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64bit

Code 800B0100 (This one also pops up when i try to solo download the Service Pack)

Code 8024200D

my CBS Log: Attachment 242943

The rest i leave to you!

Answer:Windows 7 Service Pack 1 unable to update

I would do the following things in the order listed:

1. Run a full scan with your updated anti-virus suite. Since no anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time, I would run a couple of additional on-demand scanners just to double check my computer. These free products are recommended:

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

SuperAntispyware

HitmanPro

2. If the malware scans come back clean I would next check for damaged or corrupt system files. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

3. Go to the Microsoft Download Center and get the Windows 7 64-bit System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows 7. Follow the instructions to run it.

System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

4. Before attempting to install SP1 I would first try to manually install the other Windows Updates. Do not do an automatic install because if one of the updates hoses your computer you won't know which one it was. Select "Never check for updates (not recommended)" in Step 3.

Windows Update Settings - Change

5. When manually installing updates start with the Critical, then Important, and finally Optional. Select maybe two at a time and keep track of the KB numbers. After instal... Read more

My friend enabled automatic updates, and XP began downloading SP2. After he returned from going out the download appeared to have been completed, however there is no icon in the task-bar to prompt him to install SP2. We tried setting the specific time for the updater to install new downloads, but nothing happened.

Do any of you know the location that Win Updater downloaded SP2 to? That way we can install it manually without having to wait for the auto updater to prompt him.

What would the SP2 install file be called so we can search for it?

Answer:Windows Update - Service pack 2 downloaded, but where is it?

My current laptop was purchased new last October, loaded with 8.1. I upgraded to 10 on the first day of its release, and ever since then I've been getting notifications for Office XP Service Pack 3. It has failed each time I try it. Windows suggests doing a web search for "Office XP Service Pack 3 - Error 0x80096004" for possible help, and I do find some results that MIGHT be helpful. But I can't understand why Windows 10 is trying to install an XP update on a machine that has never has XP on it.

Has anyone come across this issue?

After months of procrastination I finally decided to update my XP OS. After downloading and successfully installing the Service Pack I'm continually plagued with a warning message on my screen informing me that Windows has been altered with files it hasn't recognised and by losing others and that subsequently the system is now unstable. It then tells me to reinstall Windows XP so that certain files may be reinstalled. (Along those lines anyway). Has anyone else had the same problem? Also, will reinstalling XP make the pc revert to its former state before Service Pack install and indeed will I lose the Service Pack update? Confused!

Answer:Windows XP Service Pack Update problem

Yes, re-installing Windows will almost certainly lose that Service Pack 1 installation, but that's best anyway since it's probably corrupted. Many have had problems with Service Pack 1 and it seems best when it's loaded from a CD rather than a download. It has been on various magazine CDs and is also available as a free CD from Microsoft in the UK, although that will be dependent on the post of course. The other way to tackle this is to just do all the various updates direct from Microsoft. Service Pack 1 is really mainly the collection of security updates plus the enabling of USB 2, and you can download these individually.

As the title says, the SP1 update never showed up in windows update in my laptop...
I manually checked for updates many times just to end with a message "Windows is up to date".
I've always received other updates normally.

In case someone asks, my copy of windows is legit. My laptop came with W7 Home premium installed and a couple days ago i upgraded to W7 Business with a key i had.
I only upgraded cause i thought somehow the update would appear. Ended up with same result as above.

I know i can download it in Microsoft's website but i just wan't to know if there's a way to fix this or if anyone have experienced this.

Btw, I'm running Windows 7 Professional x64 now.
Any help would be great

I have Windows XP, and tried to update to service pack 3 and microsoft internet explorer 8. Somewhere there was an error, and now my computer (an old dell 2400 series) only goes to a log in screen (I don't have a log in screen normally) and when I log in, I get my background only. With an error message that says explorer.exe has encountered an error and will not load anything on my computer, like the icons, the tray, start menu, nothing but the background. How can I get my computer back to where it was before the update screwed it up?
Thanks for any help I get!!

When you install a service pack, it creates a restore point. I would suggest you first try to restore to a point before you attempted to install SP3 which you may be able to do in safe mode.

Answer:Windows Service Pack 1 always fails to update since new

I assume you have Vista, right? I had the same issue. I tried MS tech support line first and they did not resolve anything. But they were very nice. There are a few forum that addressed this issue. You can try to follow the instruction on the web. At the end I reformatted the hard driver and reinstalled the whole system. Everything is fine now. One thing you can try first. Download the SP 1 standalone version from MS. Now if you did not receive any error message, let it run  and leave your laptop on. It took a long time on mine after I reformatted it. Good luck.

Hello everyone

Is it ok to update from service pack 2 to service pack 3?
And also if something in the future goes wrong am i going to be able to do recovery with my recovery discs ?

thanks a lot

Answer:Solved: windows xp service pack 3 update

For most people there is no problem with SP3.
There are a few specific instances such as some HP with AMD processors which were loaded with the same drive image as the Intel processors thus having an incorrect processor management file which when replaced causes problems on reboot.

But generally speaking if your machine is clean of malware, and otherwise up to date , sp3 is a fairly minor set of changes.
As always, you should backup vital data, you should do a basic disk cleanup (empty temp and temp internet files, and recycle bin ; run error checking and defrag the disk ) before you install the service pack. Then make sure you have a clean restore point too just in case.

I'm a guy who likes to keep all the software on my laptop updated to the latest version (Except Windows updates). Recently I saw on the web that there is a service pack update for Windows 7 named Service Pack 1 and searched more for details about this update and found that many users who have updated to Service Pack 1 are experiencing slowdowns. I have already downloaded the genuine SP1 ISO file for the Ultimate version and hesitating to go for a fresh install because of these bad reviews.
Will a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (x86) make my computer slower than my current non-SP Ultimate (x86) edition as many users have posted on the internet? If so how can I overcome that problem?
Please help me

Answer:Should I install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Update?

I'm one who applies pretty much all OS updates on all my machines (other than hardware drivers from MS update) and have never experienced a slow down due to updates being applied. IMO, even if you don't apply any other updates you should apply SP1.

How much space do you have left on your hard disk?

SP1 is quite greedy and requires at least 5G of free space before it even entertains the idea of installing it.

WinPatrol and Windows Service Pack 2 Update

When upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 WinPatrol will Alert you a number of times. Each message should be from Microsoft. If so, click YES!

During the update Microsoft installs a number of new components including new Media drivers that need to be registered using a program called regsvr32.exe

To complete your Service Pack 2 install it's important to allow these components to be registered which will happen when you reboot. After reboot these autostart entries will automatically be removed.

Hi all, I recently had to re-install windows XP on my old computer. Since I have done this it has reverted back to Windows XP Service Pack 1.

As Im sure you will all know we are now on Service Pack 3 however when I go to download the latest versions of anything on the Microsoft Website my web browser says "Cannot Display Page" I have tried installing, SP2, SP3, WMP11, IE6, IE7. And all come up with the same!

Is there anywhere I can download or get Service Pack 2 as I think this will help sort out my other issues with the computer!

When you re-install Windows XP (if this is original version) you just have to click on "Start" button and than on "Windows Update" and than to searching for new updates on Windows company website.

I "do not" want to install M.S. Service Pack 2 at this time. But my Windows update is set to download automatically, and do a manual install. Question being...is Service Pack 2 only one file, or is it multiple files? How is the file/files named? I have several updates downloaded, but I only want to install ones that are not Service Pack 2. Can anyone advise me on this?

Thanks for your assistance!!!

Answer:Service Pack 2.. Windows Update File Name?

Wayne,

The file name is WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe. My understanding is that there are two flavors: (1) download the whole thing, which is 272 megabytes, or (2) let Bill Gates and them send it to you a little at a time. I downloaded the file and installed it myself on both machines. I haven't had any problems.

I don't know if there is a way to list the downloads that are sitting on your machine. I tend to go to the windowsupdate website, and let the machine check which downloads need to be installed. Next, I click the option that allows me to decide which upgrades to download and install. This may still work for you if the website does not see the downloads that are on your machine but which have not been installed. I am thinking that you have actually downloaded files to some temporary folder. I hope this helps.

Hello, I was wondering if someone would advice me on the new update from Microsoft, Windows xp service pack 2. I downloaded it, and it changed my computer configuration, so I did a system restore to get my computer back the the way it was.

It seems like it installs a firewall among other things that I don't need. Has anyone else having the same problems, and how did you handled it? Is it necessary to have this update? I usually download all the update and service packs when pronted to do so, but this one has me stumped.

Also what I didn't like is the fact that it changed the configuration of the picture files. I am not familiar with the new configuration and don't like the idea of Microsoft doing that. Also, the update icon is still on the task bar and it doesn't want to go away. Is like is forcing me to download.

Any advice for me? Thanks!!

Yes I just got a new computer and I'm running Vista Home Premium x64-bit and I have updated all the updates from Windows Update. I was wanting to know why Service Pack 2 is not showing up on it? Or do you have to download it yourself?
Do you have to have IE8 installed then you can download SP2?

The start up system repair is not an option because I put the CD in and there was no repair option, and I have tried the check system readiness tool from the microsoft website but it was unsuccessful. It keeps giving me the error code ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT(0x800737112).

The darn thing always gives me an arror that the update was not installed! I am running WinXP

How do I know if I need to install it?

How do I know if I'm running Office 2003 v Office XP?

If I don't need it, how do I keep it from coming up on my auto updates?

I tried "sc qc ose" at the command prompt to see is ose was enabled or disabled, but have no idea how to tell. The Microsoft help suggested this:
Office 2003 Update fails to install with error 0x80070643

Answer:Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 1st Update

Yeyo mate go do a system restore after making note of that update and then check the updates to load and hide that particular one for the time being.

I'm having trouble updating to service pack 1 in Win 7 x64 Home Pre by Dell OEM.
There is another post that the problem can be solved using the log file so I have tried using the Readiness Tool and the log is as followed:
