Laptop Went into Hibernation because low battery,Can it damage/harm l

Question: Laptop Went into Hibernation because low battery,Can it damage/harm l

I was watching a movie and forgot about the battery being low then suddenly my laptop went into hibernation mode(screen went black) when I plugged in the ac adapter I pressed the power button and it stated "Resume windows" and I'm worried if it can damage/harm the laptop.

My question is can this damage/harm the laptop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop Went into Hibernation because low battery,Can it damage/harm l

Shoudnt be a problem on a healthy laptop.

sleep is a resume state written to your ram and hibernate is the same thing only its written to a small file on your Hard drive which will resume your session after you reboot after losing power.

Just let it resume and you wont have a problem.

The only time hibernation is a bad thing is where we are using SSD drives instead of mechanical.

Hi all, I am curious about any possible damage that might happen to a laptop battery if after the battery has been completely charged, it is left plugged in.

I've been told that I should remove the battery if I'm going to leave it plugged in because it may overheat and become damaged. Could someone shed some light on this for me please?

a battery did not charge, so we replaced it last November, but the new battery failed also last week. I put swapped batteries between 2 laptops to confirm the defect on the battery.

I am curious if this laptop damages batteries in 2 months. Is there a kind of defect in laptops that makes them damage their batteries?

Answer:Can a laptop damage its battery?

Heat is the biggest killer for laptop batteries.

If the laptop is hot frequently, and not properly ventilating that heat out, and the battery is near where the heat source is...then yes that can kill the battery rapidly.

Did you buy an official replacement or did you buy a 3rd party replacement? Because a lot of the time, the 3rd party replacements are just cheap knock-off batteries that don't last very long.

Hi,My thinkpad has a strange quirk where it goes into sleep or hibernation immediately after being plugged in on low (<5%) battery. Upon unplugging and replugging the charger after turning it back on, it doesn't go back to sleep/hibernation. I have been able to replicate this multiple times after discharging the battery from full to nearly empty. Is this a default setting that I can turn off or is there a driver I need to update?

I've heard that using AC power while having the battery plugged in for extended use will damage the battery and shorten battery life.

Is this true?

I'm getting my new laptop in hopefully 2 weeks or so, if all goes well, and it will be used a lot with AC power...don't wanna ruin the battery.

Answer:Does using AC harm the battery?

yes, using the ac with the battery in can harm the battery very quickly.. 2 or three uses of like 2 hours can permanently shorten the battery's charge hold and life span. Always have the battery out when the ac is plugged in. Never use the laptop when its charging. Have the laptop off when it is charging. Keep the battery out of the laptop when not in use.

I bought a T500 a month ago, with two power supplies -- one for office, the other for home.  I took the battery out and stored it in a closet.  As it's heavy, doing this made the commute lighter.  Now I learn that I was supposed to keep my battery installed forever and ever.  Did I harm my battery, keeping it in a closet for a month?  What happens to people who go away on a long vacation and turn their laptop off while they are away?  Does that ruin the battery?

Answer:Did I harm my battery?

Soring a charged battery for a month will not hurt it, unless it was "near death" already.

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

I have a three year old IBM X60s that up until a few days ago, was running perfectly. I decided to restore the entire thing to factory condition using the recovery CD's at which point I then updated all the software to the most recent versions. I have two 8 cell batteries for it. After shutting the lid one night to let it go to sleep, I awoke the next morning and turned it on to see a message that said I had "irreparable battery damage". My battery indicator light flashes orange and my laptop will not charge the battery, even though it says I have 94% left, If I unplug it, the entire thing shuts down. It sees that the battery exists and has a charge, but refuses to use that power. Other then these notifications, it acts exactly the same as if there wasn't a battery. So, as annoyed as I was, I stuck in my other battery. I'm sitting on the couch, using my laptop one day, when all of sudden, the entire thing shuts down completely. I plug it in and turn it on to get the message "A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." Even though it says this battery is around 80% charged. Now the both have this message despite the fact that up until a few days ago, both were functioning perfectly, holding around 5 hours of charge, which was plenty good enough for me. One has been through a few more then 200 charge cycles, the other a little over 100. I'm at an utter loss as to what to do. I've run the battery diagnostic tool and it says both batteries h... I have a X60 initially bought in 2007 for business but was never used much. We started using it regularly in March of this year and all of sudden couple of hours back, laptop automatically shut down. It wont restart until power was plugged in and on being plugged in the battery light was flashing.Reading on Lenovo website, I soon figured out this is the famous battery error; but running their automated program does not show my battery as one of teh affected parts! Checking battery stats, the battery charge cycle is only 61!! I called Lenovo support and they claim that since the battery warranty was expired in 03/08, there is nothing much they can do but to direct me to buy a new one.A battery with only 61charges and exhibiting all the same symptoms as bad batteries - is a bad battery and should be replaced. Even my FRU # 93P5030 is right next to replacement FRU # 93P5029. I don't want to spend money on buying a replacement battery especially because I know they gave a bad battery to start with. Any suggestions, how I should deal with lenovo? Thanks!

Hi, my friend's 8month old laptop's fan is on 100% of the time and always sounds as if it is on 'full', will this do any harm please?

Answer:Laptop fan on full 100% of the time-Any harm?

Did the laptop always do this or has it started recently? It could be sign that some/all of the cooling vents are blocked or obstructed so the fan is having to run at 100% to keep the CPU from overheating. It could also be that the system is set up for maximum performance as opposed to maximum power saving, check the power saving options and change them to maximum power saving if different and see if this makes any difference.

I'm running a proxy server on my laptop which requires it to be up and running 24x7. Can this cause harm to a laptop in the long run ??. Are they designed to be left on permanently ?????

Answer:Re: Can it cause harm to keep my laptop running 24x7

It wont cause harm running a laptop 24/7. The only problem you might have would be excessive dust buildup in the heatsink.

So ensure the room is not carpeted and free from dust, and/or blow the dust out through the vent once a month or so.

I own a T61 7658 I bough on 2008, it worked great with the default power settings until October 22nd I decided to change my power profile to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.  Next day I received on Message Center... 10/23/2010 - Battery health is critical. However, couple of days ago I noticed that I've carelessly put some boxes on it without even noticing. My question is, have I damaged the battery by putting weight on it or everything is fine? The amount of weight wasn't more than 300-400 g. Will I be able to use the battery or it also might damage the phone if I put it in?

I've bought a new battery to my F30-140.

Unfortunately after a few days, battery was broken. It seems to have properly capacity, but measuring instruments shows, that battery has only 39% original capacity. Battery discharge to 3% very fast, and after that it work about 1,5 h with critical power level.

I don't know if it is just battery failure or my notebook failure.

Answer:Qosmio F30-140 - New battery damage?

For me it sounds like that the new battery works properly but the battery charge will not be read correct.
Can you please tell us what program shows the critical battery level? I mean Toshiba Power Saver or Windows Power Management?

It?s really hard to say why this happens but in your case I would check the battery part numbers first. Do you have another battery now or is it the same as old one?

Alternative I would try to update the BIOS. Maybe it will help you?

My phone (lumia625) ran empty on battery while on travel.... I charged it up to about 10% and took it for my walking exercise, it got empty once more..... I went to charge and the phone would alternately flash the battery charging screen and the nokia flash screen....turn off and battery charging screen and then the nokia flash screen. It went on like that for about thirty minutes or so....until finally the phone turned on. What i notice now though is that the phone is very slow to charge. Although the discharge rate is still seemingly similar to how it was before. My only problem is the charging time...which is so sloow now after the incident I described. Could i have damaged the battery?

No your battery will be fine ! the odd tech sites say its best to run the battery dead every few months and to keep charging it at different levels to help keep the battery life span.

I recently took my T400 in to a repair depot to have my keyboard replaced under ThinkPlus.  At the time, my 9-cell battery was at about 70% of its total life, or about 3.5 hours of runtime.  I got the machine back and ran it from the dock for the next week, and I started to notice the battery light was blinking, although I didn't pay it much attention.  This weekend I undocked it to bring to a friend's house, and the battery was completely dead, and refused to charge.  Power Manager says 'the battery has failed due to normal wear', that it cannot be charged and must be replaced. I tried removing the battery and holding down power for 30 seconds, but no change.  I also looked into the event viewer, and it seems that the repair depot only had the machine powered on for about five minutes while the work was done.  What could have happened to my battery?  Can it be reversed? Will my Thinkpad Protection cover a new battery since it wasn't slow degradation over time?

My Thinkpad R61 suddenly show up the message "Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one." with "Poor" condition in the Power Manager when I was recharging my battery yesterday. The battery light turns orange and keeps on flashing. When I plug out the AC adaptor, the whole laptop turns off even though the battery gauge shows 100%. I have seen similar problems reported in the Internet but there seems to be no solutions. I don't believe the battery will die out all of a sudden. It's not new but it still works well before this happened. Can any one help me? Thanks.

Answer:R61 Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected

You can try to do a battery reset from within Power Manager, but it sounds like your battery died.

Lenovo batteries have a smart chip inside of them that will shut the battery down if it detects an unsafe condition, such as overheating, shorting of a cell, improper voltage changes between cells, any unsafe conditions.

So yes, your battery can and will just up and die like it did.

Hi all, I recently acquired an X60t with 8cell from work, and I turned it on (from a complete discharge, it seemed) to receive the infamous irreparable damage error.  I looked at the error log, and it appears that whomever had the laptop before me had been receiving these messages since August, but had done nothing about it. A quick Google suggested a system reformat, so that's what I did, and I still received the errors. I looked up the recall (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67765) and my FRU (42T5251) was one of the included on the recall.  Unfortunately, the webtool did not concur, and said I was not included even when I entered the barcode from the battery in (11S4T5209Z1ZD2272K0B5).  I called into Lenovo telephone support (in Atlanta, GA) and they told me there was nothing they could do- because my battery and laptop has been purchased in April 07 and was out of the recall's 1year + 6 month time span for replacement.  When I tried to explain this issue, they simply told me I was "entitled to my own opinions" - frustrating, because I work an IT helpdesk just like they do, and saying that to a customer would be a fireable offense. I am here today to see if there is anything I can do (being just weeks out of the deadline, and having suffered the issue within the allotted time) to replace this battery.  It is astonishing that my $2200 laptop (6363-CTO LV-C0389)) still under warranty and with a known... Answer:X60t Irreparable Battery Damage

I too have suffered your fate!  My original post is in another thread.  Your fault sounds a bit different to the symptoms described in the extended warranty. My X60t would boot fine on AC with the battery attached, but the battery light would flash orange. Does your computer run fine on AC power? Can you disconnect the battery from the X60t, plug in AC power and boot correctly? The little I know about these batteries, is that if you fully discharge the battery... There is a high chance that the battery has formed a short circuit.  This is deemed 'abuse' and I don't believe it is covered by warranty even under normal circumstances. It may be that the former owner had allowed the battery to fully discharge and a short formed, then it came into your possession. All of that said, it may still be the fault covered by the extended warranty, which is no good to you or me.  I guess you have an expensive paper weight! Best of luck!

So, my Lumia 1520 the 1.5A charger, and I have been using my 521's .75A charger. It's a lot slower, but I heard it'll be better for the batter in it's lifetime. Also, it takes a looong time for it to go from 99 to 100. I dunno if any of this is true, but it'd be great to hear some responses. :) Thanks!

Answer:Can a weaker charger under power/damage a battery? Or maybe even do good?

It won't do any difference, the batteries are design to work with fixed amp parameters, so the only change you will see is the slower charging times. I suggest to use the L1520 charger.

When I put the thinkpad x100e into hibernation mode, I find that when I turn it on again several hours or days later, that the battery indicator is down a few percentage points from when I had put it into hibernation.  Is this normal? Why should there be battery drain when the computer is in hibernation mode but not when I shut it down completely? I understand why in sleep mode there may be battery drain but I don't understand it when it is in hibernation.

Like a great many users here in a great many posts throughout the past few years, I have the "Irreparable Battery Damage" error on my X60 Tablet laptop. But the scenario for mine is apparently worse than the others, as everyone else has either been helped by the recall (which I didn't know about, and likely would have missed anyway), or by purchasing a new battery (which thus far has likewise been a failure). Here's a timeline; the machine itself is the X60 tablet 6365. There are some long gaps in here due to the problem being a low priority for a very long time for me, as this is a secondary system that, aside from a short period during its second year, has never been used extensively. February 2007: System was purchased new, with two 8-cell batteries, everything works beautifully. December 2008: The first battery produces the "Irreparable Battery Damage has been detected" message. At this point the computer is nearly 2 years old, and that battery had seen the most use, so I think little of it and switch to using the second battery. The computer also shifts back into a role as a secondary machine, and sees minimal use for quite some time. January 2011: The second battery finally produces its "Irreparable Battery Damage" message. The system being nearly 4 years old now, I again think little of it and go to order a replacement from Batteries Plus. The battery is backordered and takes quite some time to arrive, but the computer, again, is seeing minimal use ... Read more

I found my T60 battery discharged about 4% after power from hibernation every time. First I thought it might be issue of power management driver, so I installed the latest power management driver. Then I found problem still there so I flashed the BIOS to latest version: LENOVO 79ETE3WW (2.23 ), 2008-9-12, and I found the problem still exist.  Hello Everyone, A few weeks ago I broke the screen on my T61P 6460-8VU, WUXGA 1920x1200.  At the time, the A/C, Battery/Charging and HDD Activity lights on the LCD Inverter board all stopped working -- however, the WiFi indicator works just fine. I have swapped out the LCD panel, the screen addresses fine but the backlight does not work. So, next, I put in a new inverter board.  The screen still addresses fine, but the backlight on the screen is still out.  And even on this new inverter board, the only activity light working is the WiFi. I don't have an easy way to check if the inverter is putting out current for the backlight, nor do I have an independent supply to check the backlight on the new screen.  However, I doubt that the backlight is out on the new screen.  It seems that the problem must be other than in the LCD or the inverter. Otherwise, the computer works just fine using an external screen -- however, those are a little cumbersome to carry about on the train :-). Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin

Hello everyone,                      I have been dealing with my computer going into hibernation at around 60-70% battery life on any power plan. When I turn it on again sometimes it still has enough power to boot up the OS, other times it will just give me a critcal battery error. Or is the battery even the issue?? Thanks in advanced!

My new T400 is draining battery while the laptop is in hibernation mode at the rate of 8% per day. i have Vista installed and all drivers & bios is up-to-date. I know that this problem is being reported & discussed widely all over the net, but I just want to know if this problem is specific to Vista only. Has anyone got rid of this problem on same laptop after downgrading to XP or trying out Win 7? My other Energy star 4 compliant Dell D630 laptop having Vista does not have this problem which make me thinks that it miht not be a Vista specific issue. It might be a issue with Lenovo hardware config or a bug in their drivers. Whatever it might be, this problem is driving me crazy.  I have tried out all the hacks and workaround suggested by people but nothing seems to be working for me can't believe that Lenovo doesn't care to solve such a widely reported problem.

The power on my X61s battery is being drained around 6% over a period of 7-8 hours consistantly.  This abnormal behavior first occured a year ago and finally Lenovo's Yamato Lab in Japan sent me a program called Powerpatch.exe and my problem was solved. Recently, this problem resurfaced again probably after installing either some Lenovo or Microsoft updates including SP2. I ran the Powerpatch program again, however, it didn't work this time! I approached Lenovo Tech Support in Hong Kong, the tech guy told me that the issue has something to do with how Vista handle the EnergyStar v4.0 specification. The tech guy said this time, he couldn't offer me any solution because it was a Microsoft Vista issue. I argued with the guy that Lenovo sold me the PC with Vista preinstalled. If there was any tech issue with either the hardware or software (including Vista), Lenovo should follow up and offer me a solution. Furthermore, the tech guy said last time they sent me the Powerpatch patch was a special favor and they didn't even offer the patch on their website. I told him that a lot of users around the world have the same problem and Lenovo should have offered the patch to every affected users.  The guy argued that by doing so, Lenovo would have violated the Energy Stupid Star specs. I suggested he could use a disclaimer to avoid being sued. Obviously, Lenovo doesn't listen to their customers. Like their System Update saga, they first discontinued and only t... Read more

Answer:X 61s Heavy Battery Drain after Hibernation

Are you sure you're really putting the system into hibernation?  Hibernation (as opposed to Standby or Sleep) mode shouldn't draw any power because it (a) copies your RAM image and system status to HD and then (b) powers off the system.

When I hibernate my X61 with Windows XP, It is just the same as if I shut it down. That means battery power shouldn't be needed to keep it hibernated. However, with Vista, when I hibernate, my computer spends battery life... X61 in hibernation ate 3% of my battery in just 1 hour (in hibernate). People said Lenovo did provide a patch to fix this up; however, can anyone share this file?  thank you

Answer:Hibernation draws battery power.....(X61)

With my new X61 having Windows XP, I hibernated it from 6PM with 100% battery charge. After turning it on the following day at around 10:00AM (after 16hrs), the battery charge became 74%. As what I understand, hibernate takes a snapshot of everything you got on RAM (including any windows and apps running) and saves it to a special hard disk file and then shuts the computer down, when you resume from hibernation the computer boots a bit faster than a normal power up bootup. This method should not consume any power while the computer is off.Does Lenovo provide a patch on this? Thanks.

If my battery is running low while I am traveling, and I don't want to restart my computer, can I hibernate to save my open work, then change my battery and resume - or will my work be lost if I do that with the computer unplugged.

I am running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway MT6840 laptop.

Thanks!

Answer:Does hibernation survive battery change?

In theory hibernate saves your work before going into hibernation, you should be ok. That being said, assuming that you are in school and a paper is due tomorrow morning, do not trust it to hibernate. Save it yourself.

My X300-13W seems to use up a hell of a lot of battery in hibernate mode.

Now in hibernate it is supposed to dump all RAM contents onto the HDD and switch off... i.e. I can unplug and remove the battery and than when I plug in again and power up it will being everything back into RAM and restore the desktop as it was when I put it into hibernate.

I read on some forums that although that is what happens with Windows hibernate, some BIOS settings can make PCs continue to consume power in hibernate by supplying the processor with power (I have my doubts though as it would beat the point of hibernate).

Anyway, the issue I have is last week I put it into hibernate. Came back a week later (last Saturday) and found the battery to be on 15%. I thought this may have been due to the Wake on LAN feature on the network adaptor so turned this off. Then on Sunday I charged the battery to 99% and put the laptop into hibernate. I allowed 54 hours to pass and now the battery is on 30%.

I have other laptops I put into hibernate and the battery is more or less where I left it when I switch on again.

So... I am thinking about calling Toshiba up next Monday. But before I do that, any suggestions what else I might want to check? The wake on LAN is off through properties in device manager. As far as I am aware nothing should be draining the battery and the only dranage occurring should be due to natural depletion of the battery (i.e. the same amount it would drain even if the battery... Answer:Qosmio X300-13W - Battery only on 15% after hibernation

i notice on this forum (and others) people recommend updating bios, blaming it on Windows and many other things... but no one appears to have posted a solution anywhere.... however, i think i may have made progress on my own and so came here to share should anyone else find themselves in my situation...

i noticed that the easy media key on the far left (the one with a film strip and a musical note in the middle) turns the laptop on and runs media center... it does this through Vista's "HotStart" feature. as i understand this is used to assign applications to buttons. when the button is clicked windows runs and the application launches as part of statup.

i am guessing if i can stop the buttons "wake" ability then this will stop the battery drain. however i can't seem to find the device this button belongs to in device manager.

Hi all, This is my first post here, apologies if this issue has already been covered, but I can't seem to find anything via the search facility I recently purchased a Lenovo Z570 but I'm having a bit of a problem when it comes to putting the laptop into hibernation. I put the laptop into hibernation at around 02:00 am  with a battery level of around 80 percent. I came to use the laptop this morning at around 10:00 am and the battery has been completely drained. I've double checked to make sure that I didn't accidently select sleep or hybrid sleep. Does anybody happen to know why the battery has drained completely in the space of 10 hours while being in hibernate mode. Many thanks in advance guys

Now that my hibernating feature is working OK, I have been using it most of the times I leave the netbook.
It so more quick to recover from hibernation than rebooting.

But I notice the battery discharges significantly; it typically is at critical alarm level after some 12 hours "hibernating".
Is this normal?

The unit is new and so is also the battery. It holds for some 3 hours in normal use.

Answer:NB100: battery discharges while hibernation mode

Hi

Usually the battery would discharge also if the notebook would be it boot mode (simply OFF). I read that enabled options like Wake up on LAN, etc? needs a small part of battery power even if the notebook is not ON. The battery could loses between 10% and 15% of power during one night?.
If the notebook is set to hibernation mode the battery could lose more than 15%.

However, I think you should check the BIOS settings and should disable the options like Wake up on LAN, etc?

I have been using a T430 for past two and half years and never had a problem until last week. When I returned from trip and started my laptop, the battery showed to be "plugged in and not charging". The battery management started switching between 0% and 100% in every second. Even though the battery was not charging, I continued to use my laptop with Windows 10 OS was through the AC adaptor. Then, I decided to update the OS to Windows 10 Anniversary without fixing the battery issue. During the installation process, the laptop hibernated after 60 seconds and required mulitple power ons to complete entire installation. The problem persisted with Windows 10 Anniversay as well. Now, I can not work with my battery on as it goes to hibernation mode every 60 seconds. Meantime, I have found a temporary solution to work without a battery. I have uninstalled the battery drivers after removing battery and restating with the battery. This has not helped yet. Any help to fix the charging and hibernation issues will be highly appreciated.

Hello, I got a new T400 laptop. I use it with Windows XP. I installed the latest drivers and fixes. I observed that the computer consumes battery power during hibernation. Battery level goes down to 75% during 3 days.I already tried these steps but none of them helped:- disable "Always on USB" in BIOS- disable "Timer" function in BIOS- Wake-on LAN disabled (BIOS and device level in Windows)- disable INTEL AMT in BIOS- Wake-on Modem disabled-  powercfg -devicequery wake_armed got back NONE- there is a downloadable "powerpatch.exe" from Lenovo.. I used it as well... I also tried to remove the battery after I hibernated the computer. Next time I put it back then started the computer... everything was ok, the computer started normally and the battery level was on 100%. Any help would be appreciated. The battery is perfect (I also tested it with Lenovo utilities) but I typicalyy hibernates the computer and this power consumtion is not really good... this is my first laptop which produces this issue. Thank you. Sandor

Hi All,

I have just received my brand new and very shiney X200 and gone through the normal procedures of changing the power management settings in VISTA, but I cannot get it to enter the hibernation state automatically. I have configured it such that on a critical battery alarm (at 2%) the laptop should automatically enter Hibernation state saving my data and shutting down.

Unfortunately this doesn't happen and it just dies after the battery level has dropped below the 2% limit. On re- booting (with power) VITSA tells me it wasn't shut down properly. You Don't Say! :-)

I have configured Laptops before using XP and have not had any problems. I know VISTA does have many more options to configure and wonder if I am missing something. I have checked the VISTA help files and I seem to be doing the right thing.

I really would prefer to use hibernation rather than sleep, but just can't get it to do it on a critical battery level.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite X200-20S don't go into hibernation mode when battery is a 2%

Hmm? usually it should be possible to set the Vista power options to hibernate if the battery reaches a critical level.
I think you should try configure the settings again.

Check different battery hibernation level. For example you could set the hibernation level to 10%. Please don?t forget to ?apply? the settings ;)

By the way; I would recommend checking the BIOS settings too.

My T410 frequently hibernates while I am trying to use it. It does not matter what level the battery is at, it has randomly hibernated at 100%, 90%, 70%, and 40%. When I immediately resume the computer, Windows warns that the battery has reached critical level and I should plug in to AC. However, when Windows finishes loading the battery shows the true level, which is often 70-100%. As far as I know I have the latest battery firmware installed, and the battery seems snugly installed. The battery contacts look fine on both the computer and the battery. Should I try to contact lenovo support for a battery replacement? This is extremely annoying, one of many problems I have had with this thinkpad.

Answer:T410 Random Hibernation due to "critical battery"

I have also checked the windows and lenovo settings for critical battery level (which is forcing the hibernation) and it is set to hibernate at 5%. The problem is that it is hibernating at any level of battery almost randomly.

I submitted my Satellite A660 for troubleshooting after months of testing a battery discharge of 5+ percent/day in hibernation (4+ percent/day in shutdown). There is no noticable discharge when the battery is pulled out of the laptop. The discharge when the battery is inserted is much higher than previous laptops I've owned, but Toshiba has said that this is normal.

I was wondering if I could poll people for what they have found to be normal (versus what they have found to be problematic).

I'm wondering if Lenovo would fix this. I bought my laptop before the start of school last fall, but when it happened a few months ago, I could not have it checked out because I couldn't be without it for school. So it started with the charger port, which seems to have melted and warped. Now the grill over the fan on the side next to the charger also cracked, and the hinge is very weak on that side as well. I've read that other people have had this hinge issue, but I also have the charger port damaged. I think this is a safety hazard and it should be fixed by Lenovo for free. How can I get this done? I can post pics if needed. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I am working with a Dell laptop, a very nice one year old one. A cup of water was spilled on the laptop while it was off at night, in the morning, someone turned it on. The laptop didn't work initially. Now, I opened it up and cleaned everything off. Now the laptop works while it is plugged in. Here is the kicker. The laptop will not run off of battery. The little lcd light that shows that the laptop is plugged in will not work either. This tells me that the laptop doesn't know if it is running off of AC or battery power, and the "time left" on the battery taskbar indicator just jumps to 43000 when I plug in AC (telling me it doesn't even really know it is on AC). What could cause this type of problem? The local computer places didn't want to look at it. Where else could I send it?

I've recentley replaced my inverter board because the backlight was flickering however this did not solve the problem. I am now in the process of replacing the backlight itself as I suspect it is faulty. In the process I seem to have scratched off bits of the back off the screen (not the plastic casing etc of the LCD). There is a very fragile coat over the white part at the back of the screen - I think it spreads the light from the backlight. What exactly is this layer for - will there now be patches in the screen when I get it all working again?

Do you have an OS partition full image backup to an external media routine? If so, keep a couple of current backups just in case. Make one or two new ones. Find and run hard-drive diagnostics for your particular internal hard-drive. And, if this is a business computer, consider making it off-limits until a "no-argument/no moving laptop" attitude & behavior is firmly in place [I say that only because any hard-drive can become "bad" through such accidental hits].

You really should have let it dry out for a month before trying to do anything with it. The fact that you plugged it in was, no offense, really really stupid. If the computer wasn't already short circuited before you plugged it in, running that kind of voltage through there certainly did it. I'm afraid that there isnt much you can do for it now.

I have done so much research over the internet, and I think I might have a chance...

couple nights ago I spilled an entire glass full of water into my Sony Vaio 13.3'' laptop, all the water went directly to the keyboard.

I was watching tv on the laptop after like 3 seconds the screen went off but the sound continued, I shut if off, disconnected from AC dried it as much as I could, upside down during the night, etc...

next day, THE COMPUTER WORKS, yes, it logs into windows and everything all right... if I could just see a thing in the screen.... (completely dark)

I took it to bestbuy and they plugged it to a monitor and it works, and if I point a flashlight to my screen I can see it working on my laptop... but they even refused to open it saiying its probably the backlight, repair is expensive, either buy a monitor or a new one..

after doing my research... shouldnt the backlight be able to be fixed, or at least replaced??? why would I need to replace the whole screen if its just the backlight... and the water only went to the keyboard!!! so the backlight is in the laptop itself and not in the screen...??? I saw my model LCD panels on ebay from $180-$210... sure I rather that than a new one...
Im very optimistic here.
Thanks for all your replies...

I guess my question is: if I think the problem is just the backlight, doesnt sounds too catastrophic to me... dont I get a chance?

Hi guys

I am not very good with computers to start with! Anyway, I dropped a book on my lap top keyboard last week and when it happened the computer crashed and when I turned it off then back on I received a message saying " The file or directory c:\windows\prefetch is corrupt and unreadable. please run the chkdsk utility."

The lap top has since kept crashing (after working fine for a while!) I tried to do the chkdsk check but since I tried the problem has worsened and the computer would no longer boot up and gets as far as the message "please wait" which happens just before desk top comes up and it stays on that.

I then decided to try a recovery so turned off the lap top and turned it back on and pressed F12 to do a recovery with the recovery discs I have. I got as far as inserting both discs and taking them out when instructed. Then the lap top got to "stage 2" of the installation process (light grey back ground) where it says "Finishing the installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!" This "stage 2" had continued on the screen for 2 hours before I decided to turn the lap top off as it was obviously not responding or installing! I then turned the lap top back on and it went straight back to this "stage 2" page after I selected the boot up in safe mode selection. Again the stage 2 is not responding!

Any help with this would be much appreciated

Thanks

If I were you I would obtain new HDD for testing purposes to see if recovery installation can be finished properly and how the notebook will work.

I have a toshiba laptop that recently crapped out on me. One night while I was sleeping, my drunken roommate spilled beer all over my laptop and did not bother to clean it up. The computer was in standby and still had power flowing through it. When I awoke, it was turned off and completely water logged. After an extensive drying period, the computer turned back on and began to load. I run WinXP Pro. An error message came up saying that some unknown error happened and it asked me how I wanted to load the OS. I have chosen every way possible and it always freezes when XP begins loading. I even tried loading the OS again with the disk but that didn't work. I am wanting to know what I can do, if anything, to fix it. Whether it is the hard drive, motherboard, or some electrical error, or if I should just toss it and get a new one.

Answer:Water damage to laptop...

Water probably wouldn't have done much damage. Beer, OTOH, probably didn't do it any good.

I'm sad to say, the only RX for this machine is disassembly and a very through cleaning, not something that the novice should attempt.

i have 2 black stripes across the my toshiba satelliete desktop screen they look like scratches is this a fault ?or is it actual damage i am still under warranty anybody had a simliar problem

Answer:laptop screen damage

Impossible to say whether it's a fault or damage. Be aware that screen damage is often not covered by warranty. I would contact the supplier immediately, as the cost of a repair is often close to a new laptop.

Hi

My son has an Advent laptop which has developed a fault. When you turn it on either using the battery or power adaptor it turns on, you hear the usual whirring sounds and then after 15 seconds you hear a click and it turns off. The fault appeared after he plugged in a new usb stick into a usb port which he had previously knocked and bent a usb stick in. (When I say bent it in I mean he bent the usb stick it wasn't stuck in the usb port.

I've looked at the usb port (without taking it apart) and can't see any obvious damage and the port has been 'damaged' for some time.

Any suggestions (take it slow- I'm still pretty new at this!)

Thanks

I was creating a new partition to a laptop, it was formatting the partition at 82%, Suddenly the screen went black and All I could see was the mouse cursor. I can move the cursor, but that's it. I was considering shutting down, but I'm not sure if it would cause damage to the hard disk.

Answer:HP Laptop water damage warranty

From the HP Accidental Damage Protection page:"You can purchase this plan during the HP standard warranty period. Buy your plan at the same time you purchase your HP product to get the most coverage and value. Because accidents are unavoidable, and the costs associated with them can really add up." It looks like it can be purchased during the standard warranty and would cover incidents of damage while the coverage is in place, or damage that happens after you purchase the extra coverage.  This might be good information for your next purchase. Thanks,

This might be a stupid question to some, but I don't know how fragile a laptop actually is, so I treat it like a glass baby

I keep my laptop in a laptop bag on top of a shelf. Recently, my small cat has decided it wants to get on top of every solid surface in my apartment - it will jump onto the tv from a close cabinet top, or to the space between my kitchen cabinets and my ceiling by jumping onto the ovento[ first.

Today, it jumped from the floor, right to the bureau top that my laptop was on, right onto my laptop. The question is, did the cat do any damage to the laptop by jumping onto the laptop, which was inside the zipped bag and off?

Again, it might be a stupid question, but I've been treating my laptop very carefully.

Hello. I love Macs, and I have been wondering should I do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S69Dj...source=message

and this: How to make Windows look exactly like a Mac (HD) - YouTube

and this (the mac icons): How to get Mac Folders and Icons, and how to run RK Launcher at startup - YouTube

Please tell me if I should do this! I really don't want anything to happen to my laptop, but love the Mac look! For the first and second link, please tell me which one is safe to do and which one is not! And tell me if the mac icons is safe to do! Thanks!

Answer:Will this give me a virus or damage my laptop?

They are both safe to do, but they will most likely slow down your computer a little.

Stardock is a safe program, to my knowledge. I even used it a few days ago.

Hi guys I am really new here. I want to ask whether my PC will work again or not. So yesterday I stupidly spilled water over my Lenovo G5080. And then I instinctively clean it up with cloths but with the condition the power is still on. I tried restarting the PC again and then it was working well but then suddenly my screen went blank. As I get panicked I browsed the Internet through my mobile and then found out that the things that I've been doing is the things that should not be done on facing this kind of problem

As I gathered information from a few forum it is said that I should just let it dry for like 3 - 6 hours without battery and then try to power it on again. I followed that instruction, and when I plug the charger to my laptop the charging indicator was on, so I thought my laptop was working again. But then when I tried to power it up, the charging indicator suddenly went off and there it go

What do you think? Is there still any hope on my laptop? I read here that the writer succeeded on recovering her laptop by letting it dry for like 48 hours, if I let it dry for more hours will it have a chance of recovery or not? I'm afraid that the electronics/insides whatnots inside my laptop will short circuit again. Or should I just go to nearest computer repair service? Please do help, this laptop is quite new and I don't have the money for buying a new one...

Thank you, looking forward to hear great suggestion from you all guys...

Hi, I purchased Lenovo Yoga 300 from Villawood Bing lee store. As soon as I got home I found a damage in the cover. I went back to the store and they sent it to Lenovo service centre. Funny thing is, they said you have drop it and we can't repaire it but we can charge you if you want a repaire. Whaaat???. Is that you're quality of service LENOVO. You sell damaged products to customers and then request them to pay for repairing???. I never seen like a such poor service.

Not unless the lamp gives off heat. Some of my laptops overheat so bad that the screen becomes very hot anyway, and that's never caused any damage. I highly doubt it'd do any damage. If you're concerned just don't point the bulb at the screen, face it down on your desk.

I have an alienware m9700i.
there has been no KNOWN physical damage done to this laptop, but after letting my little brother use the laptop I noticed that it was a bit moist after I got it back... I honestly don't believe it to be water damage, but we'll see.

but let me tell you what is happening.

Okay, when first powered on, the computer does it's normal thing. However it is immediately halted and abruptly brought the BIOs screen where it stays. I can hit Save and Exit, but still, it will boot up only to the Bios. I'm also greeted with a very loud ticking sound.. it seems like it's coming from the optical drive.

Sometimes, on SPECIAL occasions, my computer will give me a disk read error. I'm not sure if it's because I HAVE NO HARDDRIVES IN THERE, (Although they were functioning when i took them out.) or if it's something else.

Does anyone have ANY idea on what I could do?
I notice that it finds 4 gigs of ram, but only 2 available, I'm assuming 2 gigs are incapable of working.. I'll take those out later on, as soon as I get some feedback.

I'm no good with laptops.. Any advice?

Answer:Serious Laptop Problem, POSSIBLE water damage.

RAM or HDD problem.

One RAM stick may be bad. Try swapping each out.

The HDD can be recognized, but some of the files on there may be corrupt. I say back up all the data you need and reinstall Windows.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

So my friend recently cracked his laptop ( Pavillion au003tx) screen, he was carrying the laptop in his bag, with some clothes in it as well. The laptop probably got squished in the bag. There's no external damage to the screen, the damage and crack is inside the outer glass. I'm really shocked with the build quality of this laptop. He has the warranty that came with the laptop, unfortunately he doesn't have the ADP plan. Can he apply for the ADP plan and avail it? ps:- he's not that techy, so im posting on his behalf.

Answer:Accidental Damage Protection plan after the damage is done

Hi,No he cannot. The HP technician will come and inspect the unit before giving ADP coverage to make sure it is given to undamaged working unit beforehand.RegardsVisruth

I use my laptop for research with NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Spectroscopy, which uses a powerful superconducting magnetic with a magnetic field of about 7 Tesla. After nearly six months of research, the side of my 17" laptop closest to the magnet has darkened significantly and the screen whistles at a high pitch. Could the supercon have caused the screen darkening?

Answer:Superconducting Magnet Damage to LCD Laptop Screen

Without a doubt that is your problem, I just replaced a screen because a child was making patterns on the screen with a fridge magnet. What a field of 7 Tesla would do is anybody's guess.

Hi all,

It would appear that I have damaged my laptop from overheating due to gaming. I'm a little bit confused as to what component I have damaged however and I was wondering if maybe you guys could help me determine this and also tell me if it can be replaced?

The issues I am having is that while gaming, all of a sudden my PC freezes showing many coloured vertical lines, forcing me to shutdown manually. The resulting screen is shown here:

http://i.imgur.com/UFN34.jpg

and a video of it happening while playing CSGO is shown here.

overheat - YouTube

I was pretty sure from googling the issue that this is due to the video card overheating. I had been having overheating issues with the laptop for a while and very often the temps would be between 80-90 degrees C. I know I was stupid for not resolving the issue sooner. However what used to happen when the laptop overheated was that I noticed a significant drop in FPS in the game due to what I assume was the GPU (or CPU?) automatically underclocking to cool itself down. After a while then the FPS went back up until the temperature reached a certain point yet again.

Once again I realise how stupid I was for not dealing with the issue. Yesterday, I got the service manual and took apart the whole heat sink and cleaned it out properly. When playing CSGO now, like in the video, the CPU and GPU temps are only around 70 degrees C but yet the laptop still crashes in this manner even at these lower ... Read more

Answer:Laptop (Clevo M860TU) Overheat Damage. CPU or GPU?

If the CPU overheated it would shut down itself to protect the system.
I'm guessing it must be the GPU, MSI kombustor is demanding, but not a very stressful test.

Remember that even when overclocking, stressing the GPU on MSI kombustor might not cause any crashes, but on a game it might.

Try using unigine heaven's stress test, or OCCT on the GPU. Those should throw out an error.
