Keyboard typing different keys than what i press? Help.

Question: Keyboard typing different keys than what i press? Help.

I was randomly playing a game, then all of a sudden my keyboard started typing weirdly. Eg. when i type a, e appears and when i type e, L appears. I went on control panel and the keyboard was still set to "English (United States) - US" and the language was still set to English. I tried pressing Ctrl + Shift and that didn't help either, no matter how many times i pressed it. Can someone help please?

Preferred Solution: Keyboard typing different keys than what i press? Help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all! So I looked around the forums for an answer before I posted, and I found a topic that was about this same problem. The person finally solved the problem by system restoring their laptop to before September 19th. I did this and disabled automatic update installation, and I was fine. Then yesterday my dad was using my laptop to look something up. Apparently he thought it would be "helpful" to install any updates I had, and he updated my laptop before he gave it back. Today the problem came back, where I'll be typing and my keyboard will decide to give me numbers instead of letters. I tried another system restore, but it didn't list any days before the beginning of October as options, no matter how hard I looked, so I can't possibly restore to before September 19th. Is there any way I can get rid of this problem, or did my dad just ruin my laptop?

Hi! @pramith, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you have keyboard issues with your laptop.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.

Turn on your keep tapping f10 key to enter BIOS. Select restore defaults by tapping the f9 key once. Press f10 to save changes and exit.
If the issue still persists, please try the steps recommended below.

Turn off the computer and then restart it.
Press the Esc key repeatedly to see if a startup menu opens.
If a setup menu does not open, the integrated keyboard hardware is not working. The integrated keyboard in the notebook should be serviced or replaced. To continue using the notebook, connect a USB-wired keyboard to a USB port and restart the computer.
If a setup menu opens, use the arrow keys to navigate the menus. If these keys are working in the startup menu, but then fail when Windows loads, the problems might be related to the keyboard software.
Restart the computer.
In Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software:
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
Continue removing device names in the Keybo... Read more

Hello all i have been having a problem off and on with my keyboard on my asus laptop, sometimes when i press the L key i get a/ instead and when i press the o key i get yt instead of O, I don't really know what is wrong with or making it do that, it is annoying. Sometimes when I hold the shift key for a few seconds and turn on the filter keys and then turn them right back off it goes away but comes back later, has anyone else had this problem, or know what i should do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. I am running windows 7 on the laptop and purchased it new in feb 10

Answer:keyboard not typing right keys

"purchased it new in feb 10"It should still be under warranty...sounds like you have a hardware problem and I would contact them immediately and request service on the laptop. Just make sure to save all your important docs and files before sending it away.Chances are they may reformat your drive and lose all, or they will replace the keyboard and still set it back to a factory installation.Too many people send their laptops off and lose all their valuable files not knowing ahead of time.Good LuckSome HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers

When I use the spacebar / appears. When I press return # appears, when I use the back delete button a [ appears. How can I restore the usual setting?I have done a system restore, switched the laptop on and off. It has not restored the usual keyboard. I have tried all the function keys. Please could someone help me with a solution to restore the keyboard's usual settings. Thanks

Answer:Keyboard typing different keys from what it normally does

This just started suddenly? No spilling of any liquid or other "abuse" of the computer? It sounds to me like the keyboard gets the wrong signals - not even enabling num lock or anything of the kind should result in such behavior - the space bar, return and back key are all pretty much the same on all keyboard-types - unless you've installed some sort of key-remapper (which is highly unlikely, given you've done a system restore) - which makes me wonder - have you run a keyboard test from the BIOS/startup diagnostic? Most likely it's a shot keyboard, given that no abuse has taken place - run the diagnostic test on the keyboard, and see what turns up.

Occasionally when a key is pressed; it will act as if it is being held down: however the keys are not stuck. I have tried updating the drivers, but it didn't work. This is not the biggest issue, since it only happens less than a dozen times a day.

Hi, I have just purchased this keyboard modification for my flight Sims, but I am a unsure how this will work because some keys are modified to be pressed at the same time. I would like to know what happens when you press some keys together on a keyboard before I start to mess about doing this. Please look at the link below and you will see the modifications they use on the keyboards. I realise you can press some key combinations using shift, Ctrl etc, but these ones look different so take a look before commenting. Thanks!!

Answer:What happens when you press two keys on the keyboard at the same time?

You can press key combinations of any keys, especially when playing games. In some cases, you might be limited to how many keys you press at the same time (2, 3, or 4 keys) but they can still be pressed together. How a program reacts to these presses is entirely up to the program. For typing, if you press and hold a combination of keys, it will show all keys in the order they were pressed, but only repeat the last key to make contact (it's humanly impossible to make them all contact at the exact same time). For example, if I attempt to press ASDF all at the same time, I get something like this: adfssssss, with 's' being the last key to make contact. In games, key combinations are a normal thing. For example, if playing a first person shooter, you might have your movement keys mapped to WASD, space for jump, F to open/use things, and R to reload. If I am holding W to move forward, then press space to jump over something, R to reload, without releasing any of the keys, all actions should happen simultaneously. You should be only limited to the number of keys you can have pressed at one time.

Hi, I recently bought a new Lenovo B5400 and when I'm playing games, my laptop keyboard beeps a lot and it's always when I press 3/4 keys at once, which is necessary in gaming. So I was wondering is there any way to turn this annoying beep off so I can press however many keys I want? It's not something I want to be concious about. Thanks for your time. Kind Regards,alannm37.

I have a Equium L-20, just bought it and every so often it is missing characters while typing, these are random, it isn?t as if certain keys are sticking can go through and type the alphabet and every 2 or 3 times it will miss letters or characters out as if I hadn?t pressed the keys, also the space bar can miss now and again.

Would this be a keyboard fault or software, it?s kind of got me puzzled and almost to point of returning it for a replacement.
During this short post it missed 4 letters out, had to check it and fill in the blanks

Answer:Equium L-20: Keyboard random keys not typing

Well, I have read some topics about the similar issues in this forum and I think it?s not a keyboard drive problem. In my opinion it?s something wrong with the keyboard hardware or with the cable connection.
I think the best way is to contact the ASP for the detailed informations. If the warranty is valid, all replacements will be done for free.

Hello, I went through the process of cleaning my mouse while the monitor was off and I'm fairly sure I clicked something maybe I shouldn't have but after that the whole keyboard was messed up..

E shows up as ]
D shows up as ''

Esc, start, [ , n, y, I, F1-F12 keys don't register, among a few others..

Things I've tried so I don't waste anyones time.. [Windows 7]
Changed Location, Keyboard Layout (English - US) is the only language
Ctrl - Shift x1/2, Alt - Shift x1/2, and pretty much any other variant I could think of.
Plugged another keyboard in, same thing.
Plugged keyboard in another computer, works like a charm.
Restarted, plugged and unplugged. Uninstalled and tried to update driver..

Nothing worked so far, hopefully you can can make something happen.

Answer:Keyboard typing numers, not letters on certain keys

Many laptop keyboards have a section which can be used for numeric data entry only.

These keys are normally just a block of the main QWERTY keyboard and accessed by using a Function key.

You have probably got the keyboard into this "mode"

I have already tried the EASE ACCESS option but could'nt find to stop this Short Cuts as these keys are well working in My virtual machine , Can any one suggest the answer of it.

Answer:Keyboard shorcuts opens, when i press R it opens the RUN Command window & when i press E it opens the My computer , How should i remove these shorcuts. When i use these keys in my Virtual machine it works fine, Kindly guide me in this issue

Thanks for the post!
It seems the shortcut keys are messed up. Did you get this issue before?
By default, Win+R is used to open Run command, and Win+E for opening Computer. It seems these shortcut keys are changed. Now, if you press Win+R or Win+E, which windows will show?
If you figure out which application used this two shortcuts keys. Right-click the application, choose Properties - Shortcut Tab, what's behind the Shortcut key box? Change it with another shortcuts key.
Also fully scan your computer, and if you have a backup, a system restore could help you come back to a nearlier time.

Apologies for what is probably a stupid question.
I have a Tecra A2 and run XP proffesional.
Suddenly some of the keys are typing symbols different to those indicated on the keys.
Pleeeeze tell me how to reset the keyboard to default.

With thanks, Danny.

Answer:Keyboard keys of Tecra A2 typing wrong symbols?

Hi mate,

it could be that you have a wrong keyboard map. A keyboard map is like a draft for your hardware which identfies which char is displayed when you hit a key on your keyboard.
Keyboard maps a depending which language you use so if the symbols on the screen do not match the input of your typing then it could be that a wrong keyboard map is set.

In such case you will have to set another keyboard language.

To change the keyboard map you must do the following:
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language options -> Click on the Tab "Languages" -> Details -> Choose your input language which matches your keyboard

Good luck and nice weekend

Dear all, I recently purchansed Lenovo Z500. It has been great but I have had some key board problems. When I browse the Internet or doing some work on Word, the keyboard doesn't let me type. Instead the buttons do other functions, like minimizing or maximizing the current window when I need to type something. It seems like everytime I restart the Windows, it solves the problem. Is there any other way to fix it, or is there a special button I don't know? Or is there a complete list of key functions? I know the function key combination listed in the link below pg29. But they don't help me solve the problem.  Please advice, Baha

Hello, I am hoping someone could help me with this issue. I am not sure if I am posting in the right section of the forum so forgive me if i am not. I am using a compaq laptop with windows 7 for an OS. The G, H, 8, and backspace keys decided to stop working. For some reason the only way to get any of those buttons to work is if you put on CAPS lock and hold shift. Then you can use those keys. Im not sure if any other keys have been affected as of yet. Ive tried to google for a solution, which normally helps me fix any computer issues I come accross. So far I can only find the reccomendation to hold the function button and press numlock, and its supposed to remove the, "sticky keys." I am not quite sure what exactly the sticky keys are but I didnt think it was the problem here, and the laptop doesnt seem to have a function button anyways. I have seen the option to turn on sticky keys when holding shift on other computers or tapping shift 8 times, I dont know if it was turned on or if sticky keys cause certain keys to not work unless you hold shift while CAPS lock is on, but if this sounds like something you can help with please advise me of any suggestions. I appreciate any time you take to help or even if youve read this far. Thank you

Answer:Certain keyboard keys not working unless you press caps lock and hold shift?

First thing you do is get a canned air and clean out the keyboard... slowly, carefully, then do it again with the laptop upside down. That rules out the most common cause... dirt, dust, and debris.

Hi there, and thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! This problem is really frustrating because I have important things I need to do asap and I am prevented from doing them.

EDIT: It seems the problem is exclusive to Firefox... I never use IE so I didn`t think to check until now, but yup, it`s just Firefox.

The problem is my keyboard. I was just posting in a discussion forum and going to hit the square bracket again to quote someone. But I think I hit something at the same time as pressing that key, as I was going for the A key but instead I hit around the shift key. So I think I hit the square bracket key plus the shift key or something around there, at once. Or perhaps a combination of three keys.. or perhaps this has nothing to do with the problem at all.. or for all I know I have a virus (although I have been scanning a lot lately and all seems clean). right square bracket gives me nothing if I press it once, and if I press it twice:

Hello Bleeping Computer people!
Computer with the problem is a desktop. HP Pavilion Model number a4327c-b. Windows 7.
My problem: Keyboard keys unexpectedly stop tying text and instead, pressing a key, activates a function.
For example typing the F key opens the File menu. Tested with a second keyboard and had the same problem.  Problem started unexpectedly, without warning. Problem occurs when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.
Mouse works. Norton Security Suite working.
Temporary fix: Opened the On Screen Keyboard and pinned it to Task Bar. Opening and minimizing the On Screen Keyboard fixes the problem for a few minutes but then the problem reoccurs. Problem seems to reoccur when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.
Descriptions: Of how the problem effects these programs:
Outlook: Can’t open New Message. When forwarding an email can’t address it or type text. Keyboard keys act as if they are function keys. For example typing F opens the File Menu. Other keys open other Outlook functions/menus.
Word 2007: Can’t type in a Document. Type F key and Office Button opens.  Other keys activate other Word functions.
Internet Explorer: In all Search boxes, can’t type. F key opens File menu. Other keys effect other menus.
Thank you for any help you can provide,

Hi, I just purchased my x301. Did a lot of research - seems like an awesome laptop. As such, I sense my user experience should also be much better than the T60 laptop I've owned for ~5 years. I want to ensure that my model is not defective. I'm wondering if anyone encountered these issues with their x301:Eye strain: This is a much better display: LED, 1440x900 res, brighter, and I've pumped up the DPI and font size so I'm not squinting, but sometimes still feel like I'm suffering from eye strain - even after 20 minutes of use.  I didn't experience this with my T60 - even after 14+ hours of consecutive use. I've reduced the brightness level to 2-3 below max to see if that may help...Stiff keys: I can definitely type faster on my T60. 2 service center professionals indicated that the keys will loosen up. On x301 and other Thinkpad store demos, I also seemed to require much less force to press the keys relative to my own x301. Wondering if anyone else encountered this and did your keys in fact loosen up and if so, how long did it take?Horizontal scroll: I've adjusted the settings so that vertical scroll seems to work quite effortlessly, but many times the horizontal scroll just does not work? Any thoughts, suggestions are very appreciated.

Answer:x301 issues: eye strain; keyboard hard to type / press keys; horizontal scroll

If you're running Windows, I suggest you try the ClearType tweaking tool from Microsoft.  For XP, the on-line version is at On-line ClearType and that also has a pointer to the downloadable version.

I own a Lenovo 3000 y410  and as my title indicates it is constantly typing q even without  touching the keyboard. This doesn't seem like it is a physical problem because i was able to take the key totally off ( so that there was nothing on the sensor), and clean this area with compressed air. Even while the key was not there the problem continued, so it is not just a jammed key or anything.Could this be some other issue? Thanks

The problem is when I press on certain keys random windows come up. Its all the windows "hotkeys", for example If I press just R, Run will come up. F, the search etc etc. Part of the problem may have been that I was fooling with a Hotkey creator but im not eniterly sure. At the moment I have the computer running a virus scan, and i'll reboot it after to see if that brings it back to normal. The comp is the one in my specs.PS: my control key isnt stuck down because turned on the onscreen keyboard and the same thing happens.PPS: Im not going to restart my computer, in fear of the problem still occuring and I couldnt type my password in.

Im having a weird problem. For certain keys I have to press them twice for them to work. It appears to be just the quotation(") key and the tilde(~) key.

When I hit it twice two quotes end up on the screen. I can also hit either of the keys and they both will show up.

For example, I hit the tilde key and then the quotation key and end up with this result: ~"

Both characters appear on the screen at the same time.
Anyone ever have this problem or know what could be causing it?

Answer:Have to press keys twice to get them to work

sounds like your keyboard is borked.

Please help! A while ago my computer started randomly typing the same key over and over, as if I was holding it in. I restarted the laptop and it stopped. A few times after that the same problem happened with different keys, making it impossible to do anything until I restarted the laptop. Now it is happening again with the "5" key and nothing, not even restarting has helped. I've tried various virus scans and although I got rid of a few viruses, the problem still stayed. I tried banging the keyboard as well.

Gateway windows xp turned on computer today and sound check comes onscreen goes from blue to dark blue. on tower, on light is blue and flashing light is orange, never comes up with windows.

Answer:What keys can I press to get to the recovery screen?

It sounds like you've got problems beyond what a restore or recovery attempt can fix.But to answer your question, the function key to press to access a restore partition on your hard drive (if that partition exists) will probably vary with the gateway model. It's sometimes F11 but you should check the manual for your model to make sure.If you mean you want to get to the windows xp recovery console you'll need to see if you can get to safe mode or safe mode command prompt. Check my # 2 here: doubt you'll be able to do either of the above since as I first mentioned, I think you have a bigger problem--usually that means the power supply, motherboard or both. Your problem description was kind of vague so it's hard to be specific. But try the above suggestions. Maybe you'll get lucky.DAVEINCAPS - Made with REAL high fructose corn syrup.

I don't know what I hit, but I'm actually typing this from my husband's computer because I can't type anything from my computer now. When I type "t" it comes out t5. Then I hit backspace and it comes out with dashes. Nothing is what it is supposed to be. I have a Satellite Toshiba laptop and it runs Windows XP. I tried to reboot, but then I ran into another problem. I couldn't type in my password to let me back into Windows. Everytime I type "R" it shows that I typed 2 letters in the password screen. My mom said I might have numlock on, but as far as I can tell, it isn't on and even when I press function F11 it doesn't seem to do anything. I still have some kind of code enabled. How do I go back to regular typing?

Answer:keys are typing in code?

Even if someone can tell me what to search, that would be helpful. I can't find any information about this as I don't even know what it is or how I turned this code thing on. If this has been posted before, please forgive me and send me to the link.

Answer:Trouble with typing keys

did you ever spill anything on your laptop? if its juice or the like, it may cause the keys to stick. if its just sticking without a reason, then you may want to try contacting the manufacturer for replacement keys and the mechanism that goes underneath. im guessing your laptop uses scissor keys.

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. So obviously it is not a software problem. (FYI: The Onscreen Keyboard just works fine) A few example stuff which I get when I press the keys: CAPS Lock: WX (When I press Caps lock key it types WX along with it so the pattern goes like this: WXwxWXwxWXwx and so on if you keep pressing caps lock)q: When I press q its types a tab with qwm: its types yum instead of mw: works like caps lock key. Turns on Caps and types WX too.x: same as wBackspace: Backspace deletes one character and along with that presses the enter key too The keys in the middle row i.e.. asdfghjkl are all working fine. Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

This was a pain to type because of this problem. Wondering if you guys have a fix. Thanks.

Hey there,

I have a Logitech G510 keyboard, I never had any problems until i upgraded to windows 8. If i am typing and try and use the arrow keys to move around with in my text it will just put 3's and w's. I am unsure of what is causing this or what I would really call this problem. If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be great thank.

Answer:Arrow Keys Problem While Typing

Have you checked the keyboardsettings?

You should find the options here ==> Configuration Screen/ Clock, language and country/ Language

Then chose for Options and check the keyboardlayout. A normal keyboard should be "US International" or "US".

You can also try to download the newest drivers from Logitech. Perhaps the old drivers are confusing Windows 8.

Good luck!

Bought 2 Lenovo B570s in late October, and noticced about 2 weeks after I bought them when I started actually using them, that the keys would frequently repeat at random while typing.  Some keys do it much more than others, and in facct some keys don't do it at all I don't believe.  The worst offenders are on the left side of the keyboard in the middle and bottom rows, though I believe all the keys on the left sside do it to some degree, some keys just aren't used nearly as much as others.  I think I've seen the problem on the right side too, but very rarely and maybe not even all the keys.  I'm intentionally not correcting the duplicate keys that appear as I type this so you can see exxactly what I'm talking about andd how often it occcurrs.  BOTH of my brand new Lenovo B570s bought at the same store 1 day apart have the samme problem, so I find it very hard to believe that others out there haven't experienced this, it can't possibly be that much of a fluke, though it could be batch related.  If anybody has seen this, please reply (don't reply if you haven't).

thinkpad keyboard problem - some keys generate multiple keys when pressed For example, "t" generates "tr", "y" generates "yu", "backspace" generates "backspace" plus "IBM access connections", "m" generates "mn" and "n" generates "mn".  Not all keys are wrong.  For what it's worth, the odd behaviour started shortly after a trip to Miami in which I had a meeting at a cafe in which we were undercover but it was pouring cats and dogs - it was like having a meeting in a sauna - so I am wondering if the high humidity could have caused the behaviour. I tried replacing the keyboard but the new keyboard has the same problem.   The machine in question is a Thinkpad T23 running Windows XP Pro Any help would be appreciated as I am now in Los Angeles using a borrowed Mac! :-)

I have a Satellite P875 running W7 and something weird just started happening.

My F1-F12 keys and the special functions got reversed.
Before, I only needed to press the keys to get the special functions and now I need to press "Fn" otherwise I get the regular F1-F12 options.

I've checked the system set-up on startup and there it still says the special functions are the default ones but that's not the case. I've tried switching between F1-F12 and special functions as default but no matter what I do only the F1-F12 are the default ones.

Any solution or any driver I should re-install to make it go back to normal?

I have to say around the same time I started having problems with my iTunes library having conflicts, I think with my AVG antivirus. Just saying in case there's a known conflict between AVG and the system that might have affected that. I was also messing aound with msconfig to try and sort that conflict but I returned it back to the way it was so it shouldn't be the cause.

Answer:Satellite P875 - need to press FN button to use function keys?

This is controlled in BIOS as well as it can be changed in the ToshibaHW setup.

So go to BIOS press F2 at the beginning.
Now choose ?Advaced? and here you will see the point System Configuration.
Go there and finally you will see the option called:

*?Function Key Mode (without pressing the FN button)?*

Up, Left, and the Space bar. A fairly common combination. Sadly, it doesn't work on my SL500. It happens in multiple games, and with some other combinations too, like Up, Left, and G, etc. Most keyboards it's 4 buttons at a time that can bring this effect, not a simple set of 3. How can I go about fixing this? A different driver maybe? Is one of the special keys in an "always pressed" mode or something? I'll be Googling around when I get some breaks today, and if I get an anwser, I'll post it. I'm sure other gamers will be having this issue too.

I'm here to notify a huge problem with the keyboard.
To play some games like Minecraft you need to press some keys (ZQSD to walk and jspace to jump), but the keyboard automatically release all the keys when one key is released.

Only specials keys like Ctrl, Shift, Fn or Alt works.
I checked it with a soft like Keyboardtest, so it's definitely a problem from keyboard.
I verified also with external keyboard and it works.

I hope this problem will be fixed, it's really a bad problem, what the hell is this.

Suddenly as of this morning multiple keys on my laptop type their own key but also other characters. It mostly is just additional symbols rather than letters and tends to be the characters next door which they type.

For example:
1) typing 'p' gives 'p['
2) typing '0' gives '0-'
3) typing '-' gives '0-' also
4) typing '.' gives './'
5) typing '/' gives './' also
6) typing ';' gives ';''
7) and vice versa
Also num pad is not working!

So in short it's like a number of adjacent keys have become fused to each other.

I have tested this and it occurs in all programs and windows. On screen keyboard works fine though.

I have so far uninstalled the device driver rebooted and let it reinstall - changed nothing.

Can anybody help?

Answer:Laptop keys also typing adjacent characters

Do you have another keyboard you can plug in and try? That will tell you if it's the keyboard (problem will not show with replacement) or the keyboard-to-PC interface (problem will persist with replacement). If you don't have an extra yourself, maybe you can borrow one from a friend /family/colleague/neighbor...?

My wife's 1 yr old L455-S5975 Win7 Toshiba worked great until about 3 weeks ago when numerous problems simultaneously developed. We decided to do a reformat (I think that it was actually a "recovery.")

The computer still isn't right. My wife can live with it but one of the very annoying things that its doing is delaying the display of letters that you type. In other words, if she's trying to type in "" the computer may display one of the first letters (w) and then stop displaying anything else as she continues to type. Then, all of a sudden, the next group of letters will instantly appear. It does this all the time and is very annoying. Other than a complete, full reformat, does anyone have any idea what it may be and how we might fix it?

HiA group of keys in one area of my laptop have all of a sudden started typing numbers instead of their correct letters. Laptop is only 6 months old and all other keys work fine. I have shut down and restarted but just the same.Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

Answer:Some letter keys on laptop typing numbers

Make/model of laptop - and, what group of keys? I am only guessing, but perhaps there is a way of using a certain group of keys as a Number Pad on your laptop if it does not already have a Number Pad on the keyboard.

Hi, I'm new to the forums and I am hoping someone can finally help me please as I am at such a loss of what to do next.

I don't know what I have done, or how it happened but some of keys have suddenly started typing the incorrect sign. For example if I press shift 2 I would expect speech marks but instead I get @

So if I press what should be the @ symbol on the keys I get speech marks " instead. If I press shift 3 I would expect to get a pound sign but instead get a hash tag and so it continues with many of the symbols.

This is very frustrating and I really don't know what else to do - I changed the language keyboard input to English QWERTY, no difference. I then read in the internet and changed to English US and still no difference. Any ideas would be much appreciated - thanks in advance!!

HP 15-ac122ds Laptop. Certain keys were typing multiple characters. I think my keyboard needed to be replaced, but I figured I would try some trouble shooting suggestions posted in an article by HP. I chose the wrong suggestion to try. Which was my fault, "un-install keyboard drive and restart computer." My computer never restarted! I have a black screen after "restarting" and without the keyboard working, I have no idea how to proceed.  Any work arounds?

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

Answer:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

Answer:DELL XPS i5 laptop ..! Strange Beep sound when i press keys what to do

Madhumitha, I'm not very good with Laptops, but I suspect you have pressed a function key to turn on some feature, probably by mistake. Most likely your manual can explain it. You may try holding down the function key (Fn) and pressing X and see if that solves it.

Hi All, I'm new to this forum, I'm a novice and I'm frustrated so please excuse any 'please repeat' or 'walk me through' requests. I have an HP pavillion x2 with 2 problems:1. if i long press the arrow keys, it sets my keyboard to perpetual unchangeable -unless I restart- uppercase. And from thereon if i access the internet, instead of openning a  new tab -for any search- it will open a new window. this leaves me with multiple windows instead of multiple tabs. this can only be undone if i restart.2. If i shut off or 'sleep' and access later, a small  light on (I think the wifi)  key flashes red. I will press the start button (on the outside), long press, which will then shut off the laptop (red light turns momentarily white and the off completely) and then i would have to press the start button again , the light on the key (i think wifi key) would now flash white and the laptop would start. (displaying tha the laptop was not shut of correctly before)  Any advise what to do. No warranty as i bought second hand)Thanks a mill,
