Remove Pinned OEM Icons from Taskbar for ALL USERS

Question: Remove Pinned OEM Icons from Taskbar for ALL USERS

I am trying to find out how Lenovo has configured Win 7 such that each new user gets two icons- Lenovo Shop App and Lenovo Device Experience. I know a user can unpin them, but this is for a business and we cannot expect every user to be able to accomplish this task. We do not want to create a support snafu when users try to use these icons.

I know there is a local GPO that can eliminate pinned icons completely, but this is not what I want to achieve.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Remove Pinned OEM Icons from Taskbar for ALL USERS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is our dilemma. At the community college I work at, the librarians have requested that certain icons be pinned to the taskbar for all users. By default, Internet Explorer, File Explorer, and Store are pinned on the taskbar in Windows 8.1.

Well, they want none of those icons pinned to the taskbar, but they do want other icons pinned. I have tried a script to get rid of them on logon, but it deletes the icons so slowly that users can actually notice the icons disappearing on logon (it takes about 2 seconds per icon to delete). The librarians dislike this.

So, has anyone figured out the mechanism that creates these three icons? I would like to figure out a way to disable their creation in the first place, if possible. Already, Windows will allow additional icons to be added; it simply won't allow these three to be removed.

Answer:How to remove default pinned taskbar icons in Windows 8.1?

Right click and select "unpin this program from the taskbar". I have that option for all three on my Windows 8.1 system.

Hello

1.) How can the Media Player pinned shortcut on the taskbar be removed for All Users?

2.) In general, how can application shortcuts be pinned to the taskbar for All Users?

I reviewed the excellent REG files posted that would allow taskbar pinned applications to be added or removed for the current user or all users but those solutions seem to only apply to the win 7 OS system level application shortcuts.

Thanks in advance

You'll have to do it manually for each user account.

Hello:

When I first upgraded to Windows 10, I started playing around with the taskbar. I found a way to manually "group" the icons I had previously pinned. For example, I could group various Office ions. (E.g., Word; Excel). I recall also having a group for antivirus/malware apps. And so on. As I recall, all I had to do was drag and drop icons on top of each other.

I don't know what happened, but somewhere along the way I lost my groups, and cannot recreate them. I've searched for a solution, but the closest I've found is info on some sort of auto-grouping. It's as if I dreamed the whole thing.

Does anyone know what I am describing, and how to regain this ability?

Thanks.

I've read many posts about hidden icons or icons showing wrong images etc, but my problem seem to be different from others.
When I log on after a reboot, I only see the search icon and the Task View icon in the task bar even though I have several other programs pinned.
If I open a pinned program I see it in the task bar and have the option to unpin the r-click menu, but if I close it, the icon disappears again.
If I open a program that is not pinned, and I r-click and pin the program, the task bar seems to 'refresh' and suddenly I see all my pinned programs in the task bar - and they all work when clicking on them.

Can anyone tell me how I can make the task bar show the pinned programs without having to pin a new program after every reboot?

Thanks in advance

Hello

Because I have more than two dozen pinned icons, I search a solution to backup & restore them in case I have to duplicate user profile or reinstall OS.

These icons are customized (some of them with tips founded here, for exemple game explorer, recycle bin etc..) with special *ico

I know pinned icon links are stored to :

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\

But restored links don't restore pinned icons on an empty taskbar, even if I reset iconcache.db and restart computer.

Are there some registry entries or configuration files to backup/restore in order to find my customized taskbar icons ?

Thanks

Answer:Taskbar pinned icons - how to backup/restore them ?

Hello Tim,

You might see if keeping a folder with a copy of the pinned shortcuts as a backup. After a clean install, you could then just pin them back to the taskbar, or pin the folder to the taskbar to make it even faster.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I changed some of my default program icons such as firefox and in the start menu or when it's pinned to the taskbar it shows up changed how i want it, but if i don't have it pinned and open it I see the normal firefox icon. This only happens with a few programs so far I've seen it when trying Chrome, Firefox and Itunes.

Answer:Program icons appear different when pinned to taskbar and unpinned

Hi Eddie794, when you change a pinned Icon, you usually need to Unpin and Close the program before it will take effect to change the Icon, then you can repin it.

How did you change the Icon, did you change it from a Shortcut on your Desktop, a shortcut in the Start Menu, or from the Taskbar itself?

See if making another Shortcut for the Program and changing the Shortcut's Icon helps.

Go to the Application's location and Right Click on the .exe and select Create Shortcut
A popup will ask warning you that you cannot save there and will save to the Desktop instead, click Yes.
Right Click on the new Icon's Shortcut from the Desktop and select Properties.
In the Shortcut Properties Box select Change Iconand click Browse to go to the location of the Icon you want to change.
Repin iTunes or whatever program it is and the Icon should change:
Program Locations:
iTunes = C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe
Firefox = C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Chrome = C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

   Note
The locations may vary because these are the 32 Bit locations and according to your System Specs you are running 64 Bit.
If none of this helps, try rebuilding your Icon Cache and try attempting this again

Hi Guys Im new and have never posted here before, so please help me out.
I have my computer specs, I have windows ultimate 64-bit completely updated and Im having some trouble with pinning to the taskbar

So I can pin items fine, but I can no longer change the order of the taskbar items.
I previously had (from left to right) Chrome> WMP > Explorer > Steam (Gaming Platform)
Only those four in that order, I tried pinning something else, which didnt work, and now I have this dilemma - it changed the order of the pinned icons and now I cannot seem to change them back into the desired order. Im guessing some regedit might fix this.

Tried locking and unlocking the taskbar
also tried going to
C:\Users\"user"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
and checked to see if there was any pinned programs that shouldnt be there. Any other Ideas?

I wanted to ask whether anyone knew how to change the icons for programs pinned to the taskbar in windows 8.1.
For example changing the icon for VLC from it's usual traffic cone to some symbol of the user's own choosing.
Or changing the size of some of the icons, so things you want to use more often have larger icons and things you use less often have smaller icons.
Or perhaps editing an icon for a program on their so that the icon becomes the usual icon for the program but with a dark or bright coloured line around it, or a load of small inward pointing arrows.
Or switching one from colour to greyscale.
Is this possible to do? How?
All I could find from google searches were things about how to add and remove icons, or change the look of the taskbar as a whole.
Thank You

Hey guys,

I've seen threads on this subject before on here, but here's another. I've had my Windows 7 PC for a year and a half now, and the entire time I've had it I've had Firefox pinned to the taskbar, and when I click on the icon, the program opens AND the icon stays there on the taskbar. It has been like this since I've had the computer. This is how I want it.

I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but today I updated Firefox to version 14, and now when I click the pinned taskbar icon, the program opens and the taskbar icon for Firefox disappears. I know you can set up a quicklaunch workaround (I've done that, but I'm just not satisfied), I know you can click this and that to get a new window to open, but all I want is my computer back the way it has been for the last 18 months.

PLEASE for the love of God tell me there's a way I can get the functionality that I had back. I've read in certain threads that Windows 7 is designed for them to disappear when opened. It was never this way on my PC and I just want my setup back how I had it. I tried rolling back to FF 13 to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Pinned taskbar icons disappearing when program opens

Hello mryan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I was wonderign if there was a way so that, instead of a single-click action launching an application through a pinned taskbar icon, it can be double click. I notice that I try to keep apps off the pinned menu because I often accidentally click an icon that i wasn't supposed to, but a double click would eliminate that since double-clicking active applications does nothing. Is there a registry setting or custom feature I'm missing that can enable this?

Answer:double click functionality on pinned taskbar icons

Why not just make everything single click by turning on single click functionality in "folder options." You'll still get asked for confirmation for anything mildly dangerous such as "do you really want to send XYZ to the recycle bin."

Hi songsinh1241 I'm pretty sure it's possible. The icons you pinned to your taskbar are located in the following folder:C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBarFrom there, right-click on any icon and select Properties. Click on the Change icon... buttom and select a new one, then apply the changes. Once done, the icon for the program in the taskbar should change.

I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64. Just thought that I would pass this on. I don't know if this works for any other provider.

Answer:Icons pinned to taskbar slows internet speed

Hi All,
Recently took the plunge and downloaded Windows 10. I'm still in the process of tweaking it to my liking and there are a few things that are driving me nuts and I don't know how (or if) I can fix them.

The main problem that is irritating me right now relates to the taskbar and pinned icons. I've pinned several commonly used icons which rest nicely, on the bottom left. However, when I click on an icon, I notice it will open up right next to the icon itself. I really dislike this, as it essentially boots all the other objects to the right of that icon to the right which makes it harder to find other objects in that taskbar list that I might want to click on to open. The problem gets worse when I click on several pinned items too.

Is there a way to force open programs to always open to the right of the last icon? It was obviously normal/possible to do this in XP/Win 7...

Any advice or assistance would be most appreciated!

Sincerely,
Mr. Gisa

P.S - Bonus questions/issues that are starting to bother me as well...
I) is there a way to give these opened windows a dark black border, like in XP? Not a fan of the transparent borders but can't find the option to enable? ? them..
II) I'm reaching here, but is there also a way to turn off the fade in/out when clicking on a video link or looking at pictures?

My thread title is: Pinned programs on task bar from bitlocker drive icons do not resolve
Oops. Should have been: Pinned program Icons on task bar from bitlocker drive programs do not resolve
----------------------

Hi. I am using Bitlocker for a laptop drive, which is very secure and works well.

The problem is that there are various programs that reside in that bitlocker locked drive. When I boot up my PC, these pinned program icons on my task bar are just plain vanilla (the drive that they are on - is bitlocked).

After putting in the key, the bitlocked drive unlocks, decrypts and all files are made accessible. The corresponding programs work and are fine, but the program task bar icons do not resolve to be the pretty program icon pictures I am used to. Instead they look like this (like the one circled):

Answer:Pinned programs on taskbar from bitlocker drive icons do not resolve

Logged onto Win7 and unlocked the bitlocked drive. This time all the program icons with programs residing in the bitlocked drive resolved themselves. We'll see it this trend continues. That would be good.

-------------

One strange thing is that I posted this same problem in a previous thread on Nov. 11, 2014 here in SevenForums. After a time, it was completely deleted, with no explanation as to why. Weird.

Well it looks like MS has been working on the problem since. That's a good thing.

Not marking it solved yet. I would like to see a trend of these resolving first.

Here is a screenshot of my current view. On the taskbar, I can only access the start menu. Clicking on the search opens the pop up but I cannot type anything. All keyboard shortcuts are working. I also can't see my pinned icons, or any of the icons in the bottom right corner. I also cannot click on the corner button which opens up my settings or the see desktop button.

Is there a fix to this?

Many thanks in advance

Hello again.. My Google Chrome is pinned to my taskbar and when I click the icon it has always opened a window within that icon.. all of a sudden it started creating a separate one.

I found a thread about this issue on this forum and it seemed to be solved with the solution below. This solution does not work for me as there isn't two Google Chrome.ink when I get to UserPinned\Taskbar. Also when I right click on the new icon and select 'Pin this program to taskbar'.. It no longer has the right click option of 'New INCOGNITO Window'.

I found another solution online saying to delete the UserData from Chrome but my Chrome isn't synced up with my gmail account because it has caused problems in the past so I have no way of retrieving my bookmarks, extensions, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!!

Right click the Chrome shortcut> Properties> Compatibility Tab> Change compatibility to Vista

See if that works (you could try other compatibility choices as well. This would be a workaround as the fix is something you can't do

Also, you might try unpinning the icon, Open Chrome from the start menu by right clicking the Chrome icon and choosing Run as administrator. Now pin that instance of Chrome to the taskbar, and see of that helps.

This is part of the CONFIG.xml, USMT can migrate these settings.
<component displayname="Taskbar and Start Menu" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\taskbar_and_start_menu">

So I upgraded to Windows 10 and reverted back to Windows 7. And now my pinned / recent documents aren't showing on the taskbar icons.

For example, I have Excel on the taskbar icons. Before the upgrade, I was able to view recently opened documents and even pinned them to the icons which I can view by simple right clicking the icons on the taskbar.

How do I get this back?

Example: PS doesn't show my pinned or recent items. Excel does.... Word doesn't.

I'm using Windows 7 RTM x64.

Everything was fine, however somewhat randomly the icons for two of my taskbar pinned apps (Word and Outlook 2007) aren't displaying correctly. Also they (along with Access 2007) are appearing incorrectly in the Start Menu, however when the Start Menu folder itself is opened in explorer they all display fine.

I've tried running the apps to see if that helps, I've tried resizing the taskbar icons to large, I've tried "repairing" Office 2007. I've logged off and on again, restarted the PC, and they're still not displaying correctly.

This problem is hard to describe. I have the Word (2007) icon pinned to the taskbar in Windows 7, and previously when I right clicked it, I could see the list of recently used docs, and I had a few docs permanently pinned to the list. Worked great! However, recently the MRU list and the pinned items disappeared from the Word icon list. Now, when I right click the Word icon on the taskbar, I only see the following items listed:

Microsoft Office Word 2007
Unpin this program from taskbar
Close window.

There's nothing else listed! This problem only seems to affect Word. Other programs (such as other Office apps like Excel) are not affected.

I ran an Office repair but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Answer:The MRU and pinned items disappeared from the Word icon that's pinned to Windows 7 taskbar

Hi,If the issue occurs recently, a system restore might be of help. Is there any change before the issue occurs?By default, most of the jump list history is saved under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations as *.automaticDestinations-ms files. For Example, adecfb853d77462a.automaticDestinations-ms is for WORD. The Item that pinned to taskbar was saved under %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBarClick Start, copy "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations" (without quotation marks) to the search command line and Enter. In the open window, find the adecfb853d77462a.automaticDestinations-ms, what is the "Date modified". Right click on it and choose "restore previous versions" if there is any. Close the window and check the result. If still no go, simply delete it. Meanwhile, delete all the files under the folder TaskBar too. Close the window and recheck.

Dear Friends,

Few of our users are facing issues with pinning applications on taskbar.pinned applications are getting removed from taskbar after a reboot.

They are using Dell laptop with windows 8.1 OS.

Anyone have experienced this issue before? please help by sharing your thoughts on this...

Answer:Pinned application are not staying pinned on taskbar.

Windows 8 provides the "Disable Pinning Programs to Taskbar in Windows 8" option. If someone has selected the "Enable" option then you can't pin any program to the Taskbar.

Disable it.

Some of the pinned items in my taskbar show "(2)" when I hold right click down or hoover my cursor over the pinned item. How do I fix this (delete the "(2)")?

Answer:Some Pinned Icons in Taskbar show "(2)"

Hello Rextz101,

You might see if you may get lucky and unpinning and repinning them may help.

If not, then you could use the tutorial below to reset and clear all pinned items on the taskbar. That should fix it for you, but you'll need to manually repin them all again.

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

Answer:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

Must preface: this is my 2nd Yoga 2 in 6 days. Had to exchange the 1st one within the week b/c Windows would not load (could not get past the logo screen -GeekSquad tech said only option was to swap for a new one).

Noticed an immediate difference (not for the better) in the new/2nd Yoga 2:

Cannot read the right click bubble the pops up when you right click on an app on the taskbar (i.e. to close it, or "unpin" it). I don't remember changing this in my 1st Yoga, but the bubbles there definitiely did not look like this (see pics below).

I have nicely pinned all my key stuff (Google Calendar, Gmail, google maps, etc. to the Win10 taskbar, but everything I open opens in Chrome.
If I click my iTunes taskbar-icon then iTunes opens and its taskbar-icon brightens and a little blue bar appears on its taskbar's bottom edge--iTunes opens FROM the iTunes icon.
If I click Google Calendar, G-mail, maps, etc., these icons remain black, and all this opened windows just stack up in Chrome very messily.
The intention was to have them open in Chrome but FROM their taskbar-icon, so they're nice and neat and separate and always right there conveniently.
How can I make pinned-to-taskbar stuff open from its own taskbar icon and not from Chrome?

I am the Administrator account. I installed some programs that other users might use but they don't wish the icons to be on their desktops all the time. The icons were put on their desktops automatically during installation - I was NOT given a choice to put icons on desktop or not, as programs typically do.

I went onto their screens and dragged the unwanted icons (there are now about 3 or 4 on everyone's desktop) to their recycle bins and got a message saying "Access iss denied," - the user can't delete certain icons from their own desktops.

I tried going to their Desktop folders in Documents & Settings to delete the icons from their desktop folders. Strangely...the icons I want to remove do not appearthere. (Can't figure THAT one out!)

I'm hoping someone can tell me how to accomplish this.

Hello, I'm looking for a way to either resize or remove the icons from the taskbar, here is a screenshot just to be clear:

(red box around them)

The reason I want to resize or remove them is because I've got my taskbar set very small (as you can see in the picture) and the icons are too big to fit properly on the taskbar.

I've tried fooling around in the WindowMetrics registry key, but I couldn't find anything useful.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thank you.

I am aware that I can use Windows software to hide the icon, but that places a small line on the taskbar that when clicked, lists the programs being hidden. I don't like this either!
Is there some way to remove icons specifically without having to use "notifications area" option that is built into windows?

Perhaps I can find the icon in the registry?

When I create the desktop toolbar in the taskbar, it creates a button with 2 chevron arrows, and it also creates a label calles "Desktop". I know how to remove that label, but then it displays all the objects on my desktop in the form of icons and the name of those objects. I found a fix for this, not sure if its the best way but it works! SO I hope some of you will enjoy this!

Be Warened you need to regedit!

#1. Regedit to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

#2. Delete the entries for IconStreams and PastIconsStream. (close Regedit)

#3. CTRL + ALT + DEL Start taskmanger Find Explorer in the Processes tab and end the task

#4. While in Task Manager click file, New Task (RUN) and type explorer

#5. Reboot

#6. Your GHOST icons should be gone now, however your customized settings will also be gone so you will need to change them again.

What to do? I have rebooted of course. As you mention registry, if you are comfortable with registry and you know what you are doing then try modifying the registry..else DO NOT.
Check HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify and look for IconStreams and PastIconsStream and this contains the notification icon cache.
I'm not sure but to remove this cache, I think there will be small programs like Tray Cache Cleaner or something like that..please check. Or check the free tool from TheWindowsClub if it has got that option.

Dear TechSupportGuy,

I have searched through the forums and found only partially related situations, so I sure would appreciate any help with the following, particular, buggy XP home behaviour on my PC:

Every time I reboot, everything is otherwise fine, except, that the Volume, Network Connection, Safely Remove Hardware, and (notebook) Power icons are always turned off, or missing...

However, if I bring up Control Panel's Sounds and Audio Devices icon, and recheck the box that says "Place volume icon in the taskbar", suddenly, all 4 missing icons suddenly appear, in the Taskbar area, one at a time, and stay on, as otherwise normal.

But, as soon as I reboot, they all 4 disappear again, and the Sound/Volume checkbox above is made unchecked again, by itself, and the process can repeat itself as above.

If I goto Control Panel, Network Connections and try to turn on the Network Connection icon in the taskbar, though I check it, click Apply/OK, nothing happens.

What can I do to keep all four of these icons on in the Taskbar, even after rebooting? Is something wrong with my registry?

Thanks for any help,

David

I use a couple taskbar pinned websites. Namely Facebook and Amazon. These are pinned from IE11 since Edge doesn't support. Useful and if I right click all sorts of handy shortcut. However, initially the pinned icon (or favicon) was the nice 64x64 type but over time the icons have reverted to unsightly 16x16 and I cannot get them back to their former glory. I have tried unpinning and repining them with no joy. Sometimes the facebook one reverts to the 64x64 but within days/weeks it returns to the unsightly small icon. Is there anything I can do? Hey all,

Vista veteran that just switched over to Win7 64-bit Home edition this week. Just pinned My Computer to the taskbar. When I click the icon, it brings up the list of internal/external drives (C, D, etc) as it should. But then, when I click on one of the drives, it opens up the contents in 2 other windows. Odd. So for instance, if I click on the C drive, I end up with 3 windows open, the My Computer window, and 2 separate C:drive windows.

Is there any way I can just have the contents of the C:drive (or whichever drive) open up in the same window as My Computer?

This only happens when I open My Computer through the taskbar, when I click on the icon on my desktop or on the start menu, it behaves normally.

Hope this makes sense - and thanks in advance!!!

In Windows 7 I can pin applications to the taskbar, for this example we'll be using the Windows Explorer application. Once pinned to the taskbar, I can also drag and drop folders onto the Windows Explorer's application icon in the taskbar which will add them to the "Pinned" group when I right lick on the Windows Explorer's application icon in the taskbar. The problem is every once in a while, the "Pinned" list is getting cleared and it's annoying having to rebuild it by finding, dragging and dropping each folder onto the Windows Explorer pinned taskbar icon again one by one. I know that the taskbar pinned applications are stored at C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\. I have included some screenshots. When I try and pin the steam.exe application to the taskbar, it works, but has that default no image/icon attached image.

However, as you can see in the open window, the steam.exe application does show that icon as part of it.

Any thoughts? Kind of driving me nuts even though its not really a functional problem. Thanks.

Answer:No icon when steam is pinned to taskbar

Welcome to Seven forums. Try right clicking the shortcut and selecting properties, under the general tab select change icon, navigate to the steam icon and select that. It should change the icon.

Well that says it.......pinned item does not display in taskbar? Any ideas?
I have attached a screen shot showing the said "pinned" items with a view of the taskbar where they do not appear.
Oh and another thing, there is no longer a "pin to taskbar" option available to me by right clicking any folder.

BTW my initial attachment did not work, you can see it in the 3rd post in this thread.

Hello

I have chrome pinned to the task bar but it won't simply launch the application like it does with all the my other icons. I have to keep right clicking it and then choosing chrome within the menu - kinda annoying.

Is there a way to change this behaviour so it will just launch the browser when I click it ?

Many moons ago I pinned a show desktop icon to the desktop, now after running some disk cleaners I no longer have the icon and have to use the rectangle in the lower right corner.

As I recall there is a small app that one can download that will allow pining a show desktop icon to the taskbar, but I no longer can find it. Can someone provide the link - all the other methods for pinning the desktop have no worked for me.

TIA,

Frank

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1501.

A few of my items that were pinned in the taskbar started disappearing from the bar. I have tried selecting Pin to Taskbar, I have unpinned them and then pinned them again; I even removed them from the folder itself and then tried pinning once more. None of that worked.

I also have a problem with programs not showing up as recent items in the Start menu. I do have both the "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu" and Store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and taskbar" checked.

Does anyone know how I can fix these problems? Thank you.

Erin

I pinned Microsoft Excel to my task bar, and then I pinned some frequently used document shortcuts to that. I have a few of the frequently used shortcuts that will not unpin. I have even deleted the original document and then tried to open it. It would say something like, the link to this document is no longer available, do you want to remove this shortcut and I would say yes, but it would still not delete. I tried unpinning Microsoft Excel from the taskbar, but when I pinned it back on, the same shortcuts were there. Is there a way to remove these shortcuts? I am even willing to reset the taskbar to where I would have to re-organize it to the way I have it, but I can't figure that out either Thanks for any help you can give me!

Answer:Can't delete pinned items from taskbar

Hey.

Folow the instructions form this tutorial:

Taskbar Pinned Items - Reset and Clear in Windows 7

Download the file, and run it.

It will automatically re-set the pinned items in the taskbar.

If in your circumstances, It still shows the documents as pinned, Try clearing you're recent items folder.

I have the Taskbar situated on the left side of my 24 inch monitor. Currently there are 7 apps pinned, but they reside near the upper vertical portion of the taskbar. I want the apps pinned near the bottom of the taskbar (where the clock and TSRs are).

How do I configure this?

Answer:Win 7 Taskbar and pinned programs question

You don't, there's no option for it, they always stack starting from the start button.

Hello,

Hopefully i'm posting at the right section.

But I wanted to know if it is possible to make your pinned programs be at the right of the taskbar. So lets say you open a new program right now it comes to the right of the pinned programs right? Is it possible to move the pinned programs to the right and lock it there so that pinned programs are at the right and when you open a new program it just comes to the right of the ''Windows button'' as always. So the new opened programs still come at the left side but pinned stay at right.

Also a picture showing you what i mean.

I'm curious how this option references itself. What I mean is there an editable folder/file somewhere, so I can instruct it what to put in this list? Because I recently installed yet another hard drive, and I love to reference them quickly. I love this list, and I don't like too many files on my desktop. I've tried to get it to acknowledge the drive by frequently opening it and referencing folders within, to no avail.
Which is why I'd like to know if there is a quicker way to instruct this list. It's pretty funny you know? I only open a particular folder once, and it ends up in the list. But I try to get it to acknowledge another folder, and it won't do it. Irritating to say the least

I seem to be having a problem with the pinned programs on my taskbar and I was wondering if anybody can help me here. Most of the programs on my taskbar simply highlight the icon that I clicked when I want to start the program or start a new instance of the program. However, a select few programs (iTunes, Peggle Nights, Plants vs. Zombies), for whatever reason, when I click on them, they form a new icon for the program on the right of the rest of the icons.

For instance, when I click on iTunes (when the program is not already running), it will highlight the icon I clicked for a moment then form a new iTunes icon in addition to the old iTunes icon and the new one will be the one I must use to control iTunes. This exact problem persists in the other programs as well. Can anybody help me fix this?

Any help would be very very appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Answer:Odd problem with pinned programs on taskbar

I had the same problem. Heres what I did.

1. Delete all pinned itunes icon/s from the task bar.
2. Open itunes "normally" from desktop icon or startmenu.
3. Now this itunes (which you just opened) icon will appear on the task bar.
4. Right click on it and select "Pin this program to taskbar"
5. Now this icon behaves like all the other "regular" taskbar icons.

You can try this with other apps too.

I know you can pin programs to the task bar, but they are always aligned to the left. Is there any way to make them stay to the right, near the taskbar icons?

This is for centering the icons, I'm sure you can adjust it to your liking though.

Hello Sunshine1921,

Since it does show an icon on your taskbar for them, does is show a taskbar thumbnail preview of their opened window when you hover the pointer on the icon on the taskbar?

If they do, then they may just be offscreen, and the tutorial below can show you how to drag them back onscreen.

Is there a way to pin one or more folders to the taskbar?
I know I can access it through the file explorer's jumplist but this involves too many clicks, and I like to be able to access my Downloads and Dropbox folder from the task bar, not the start menu.

Or at least if I double-click on the file explorer icon in the taskbar, it takes me to my custom folder straightaway instead of 'This PC' or 'Quick Access'...

Neither uses the Notification Area (right Side of Taskbar) as a launching point so there's no way to move them from Quick Launch (left side of Taskbar).

Question: Pinned icons

Hi everybody,

First, please excuse me if this is not the most proper place to post this question.

I?d like to tell you about pinned icons; I have some of them on my taskbar. The problem: anytime I click on one of them the pinned icon dissapears, and the pinned icon does not return where it was until I close the application.

My question is: is there a way to make pinned icons to behave the same way as if they were on the old quicklaunch bar ?

Thanks in advance.
CU.

Answer:Pinned icons

Hello CU,

Yes, you could add Quick Launch to your taskbar if you like.

Quick Launch - Add to Taskbar in Windows 8

As a test, see if unpinning the app, open the app, and pin the app again will have the icon show properly for it again.
