I have some big problem.I m using windows 7 ultimate 32-bit, Before 1 month i installed one software name "My Secret folder"(http://www.my-secret-folder.com/). The main function of this software is to hide or lock important file in his own folder. This software does NOT encrypt file,So I Hide my important 7-GB data using this softwares and recently my computer was attacked by a virus. So i formatted only my C:// drive, after formatted C:// drive My laptop work completely fine but icouldn't find my important 7-Gb data in d:// drive. This folder is still in hidden mode and occupy my 7-GB space.

I read all user guide manual from this software's website(http://www.winability.com/mysecretfo...sers-guide.htm ) but i can't find this solution.I tried to see through CMD and and tools>folder option>(uncheck two option) 1.show hidden files and folder 2.hide protected operating system files. Using these two method i can't fine my hidden file.

Anyone know how I can get my folders back, So please help me this data is very important for me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Plz help me to recover my hiden important data.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a usb jump drive that I was using in fixing a computer. I copied very important data to the drive and then went on to reformat and install windows.

In the process of setting up the partitions of the hard drive I inadvertently deleted the partition on my jump drive.

I need to get this databack. The only program that seems to work is "Data Recovery Wizard" Unfortunatly it costs 70 dollars to save the files it recovers. I dont have this kind of money.

I need this data if it is at all possible to recover I would like to get it right away. ASAP

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine experienced a BSOD crash on their Windows 7 computer. Unfortunately I was not in a position to see the exact message that was presented, however in my experience this doesn't always make a great deal of difference. After offering to fix my friend's computer I quickly discovered that one of the installed RAM sticks is faulty. I replaced both RAM sticks, and tested - all is fine on the RAM front. However the hard drive also appears to be corrupt. Windows 7 will not boot, and I have tried the following to rectify the situation:

1). Booted into Windows Recovery (using the W7 installation disk)

2). Windows didn't detect an Operating System install, so I made my way to the Command Prompt

3). Executed a number of commands that would normally fix the MBR and other boot related issues, notice after both the bootrec.exe /fixmbr & the bootrec.exe /fixboot commands reported "...completed successfully"! Then I issued the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd command and Windows 7 promptly informed me that it couldn't find any Windows installations...

4). I then considered the possibility that the wrong partition may be set active on the disk, so I tried swapping the Active partitions around (and once this didn't achieve anything I switched back!)

Having had no success with the Recovery options I physically removed the hard disk and connected it to a docking bay -

All of my Quickbooks data is located on my Sandisk Cruzer 4GB Flash Drive. Today, I went to open a Quickbooks backup saved on the drive and it was not illuminated. I unplugged it then plugged it back in several times, to no avail. I used the Troubleshooter on Sandisk's website and nothing seemed to help. I can't detect the Flash drive anywhere on my computer. It is important that I recover the data from the drive, as my Quickbooks depends on it. What should I do ?

I have a lot of pictures and folders that ended up deleted, somehow. And now they're only location is in "C:\Documents and settings\owner\recent" I believe they are ".lnk" files. Now I cannot open them.. I found them in the "RECENT FOLDER" but everytime I try to open them it says they point to a shortcut that cannot be found. How do I restore these files? I can see their file names plain as day in my recent folder--but I cannot open them. Is there any way to restore these files??

Hey everyone. I'm posting this on behalf of a co-worker whose computer recently got damaged.
Situation:
He had told me that a friend spilled a little wine on the counter which then seeped underneath it. After a day of air drying and after cleaning it- it turned on but it wouldn't load into Vista. It tried to do a startup repair.
He brought it into work when our IT guy was there. He did some stuff to it (not sure exactly what) and told my co-worker when it's done to type exit and then re-boot. He then told him if it doesn't load into Vista, he'll need to take out the drive, get a usb adapter and plug it in to another computer to retrieve the personal files (pictures, documents, audio, etc)

We never got it to load into Vista. So he bought an adapter. We plugged it into his XP machine at work and were not able to find any of his personal files.
We ran a search for just pictures on the drive, and it only pulled system images and pictures that come on the computer or with software, no pictures from a camera or anything.
I plugged it into my Mac, oddly a few additional folders were visible that weren't when plugged into XP- one was a folder called $RecycleBin and another was the Documents and Settings folder, which was empty though.
No luck on a Mac finding any of the missing files.
I told him to try to plug it into a Vista machine and MAYBE other files or folders would be visible, but that I honestly wasn't very optimistic on that being the solution.

Hi MattD313,

You said you hooked it up to another PC and you cannot find the files you need? Hmmm... may be the files were already deleted. For one, someone had already tried to 'fix' it before you did. The bad thing about that is that you also do not know what that other person did in his attempt to repair it. If you can see other folders or files except the one your friend needs then I am inclined to believe they were deleted.

Hey Guys,

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The end result is I need to recover the Documents and Settings folder on my HDD. Here is the scenario:

About two weeks ago, I came home to a dead computer. The fans were on in the case, but the monitor was off. Every time I rebooted, the same happened. I finally had to send my motherboard and CPU in. Intel sent me a warranty replacement Dual Core 2 2.4Ghz processor and ASUS sent me a new motherboard. However, it was not the original. It was the same type of board but the premium model (P5N32-SLI Premium, original was Deluxe) as they didn’t have mine in stock.

While I waited for the new components to arrive, I was able to hook up my old hard drive to my brother’s computer. The hard drive is a SATA Western Digital 250GB. I was able to grab a few files off but didn’t need any others at the time. Plus, the hard drive seemed to working fine so I had no reason to think it would be a problem to get files off in the future.

When I finally got the components back, I hooked everything up. The computer posted with no problem so I went through and configured the BIOS to my liking. Upon reboot, I received an error along the lines of “No Operating System” found. I rebooted but the same occurred. I then put in my Windows XP Pro CD thinking that maybe the new motherboard was giving Windows a problem. When I went through to choose the “R” Repair option (NOT Recovery Console), it should ask me which Windows installation I wou... Read more

I've signed up to this site just for this issue which I've had for over a year. Here are the details:

Samsung laptop RF511
While I was cleaning out all the extra programs the laptop came with, I accidentally deleted something that was crucial for my disk reader. Whenever I pop in any data disk or movie, the computer struggles for a few minutes then gives up, as if nothing has been inserted. Oddly enough... I don't believe this always happens with music CDs. The computer also hasn't be able to let me burn anything on a blank disk. I often receive the "Please insert a blank disk" message, when one is already inserted.

This is getting really frustrating since I have a lot of data to backup and absolutely need help! I'm not a programmer and would need thorough explanation and a walk-through for this please.

I went to the Samsung website and looked at what might be missing (had no idea what I was doing...) I downloaded something called the BIOS updater, which did nothing unfortunately.

Please let me know if something sounds familiar and how I might be able to replace this bloody program I foolishly deleted!
Thanks a million.

Hi I had 2 external hard drives connected and in disk manager I clicked delete on the wrong one? So now the drive wont show up, so I simply created a Simple volume and know it is a RAW drive? How do I recover the files there was over 100GB and some of them are really important such as records and work related stuff, it is currently a RAW partition and all the hard disk recovery softwares dont recognise it because it is a RAW drive? do i have to format it to recover the files? Please Help!?!

Answer:*Important* Accidently deleted volume in Disk Manager, how to recover?

Do not format the disk.
this would make your task more difficult or even impossible.

There are free partition recovery tools available on the net.

Question the deletion, was it your operating system or are you still able to boot into Windows. I have never been in this position but someone will post some software for you. Just don't muddle the disk any further.

If you are able to boot into Windows this link will give you an idea of what you are looking for. Hang on because I know some forum members have done this will be suggesting more software.

Now this is just a guess that may save you a full re-install.
Install a CD/DVD burning program and it may correct the fault. Also Windows builtin burning is not the cleverest of tools.

Recovering deleted items may or may not be successful since the drive space the items were using becomes available for use again after the deletion. There are third party programs that do work to recover items of importance if they are there and here is one I refer to people to try. The product is free to try through a download and of course you will have to pay for it if you want to keep it beyond its trial period.

The product has been successful for many in the past so good luck and let us know the outcome.

Just want to know what would you do if you lose your important data. For example, delete your cherished photos by accident; lose your doc files which contain your weeks' hard work due to formatted or damaged hard drive. Of course, I hope everyone here never have such bad luck. Just a poll. BTW, do remember backup your data regularly.

A. Feel sad, but do nothing.
B. Tell a friend about your bad luck. Then you feel better
C. Ask someone who is good at computer for help.
D. Go to an IT forum to post your problem, like techguy
E. Search Internet to find similar situation & solution
F. Go to manual data recovery service center.

You may have other answers.

Hi,

I recently re-formatted my PC and everything that I wanted to keep which wasn't a lot a burned onto a single DVD. Even though it wasn't a lot it was quite important.

The software told me the data had burned correctly and everything was hunky dory but I stupidly didn't check to make sure.

Now I've re-formatted my PC I go into my computer and select the drive and one folder is in there but no sub-folders with my files. If i right click on the Drive in My computer it says it's full with 3.8GB of stuff yet when I right click on the single folder in there it says no folders or files in there.

I don't know why it's doing this but it's really frustrating as some treasured photo's are on there and important work files

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it

Thank You

I have a problem with my Satellite 1100 laptop. The windows OS has somehow become corrupted and now won't start up. I have tried the usual 'use last good config' and start in 'safe mode' but neither of these work.

Is there a way using the product recovery CD to fix this without losing important documents and photos?

Any help appreciated.

Answer:Can I fix OS using recovery CD without loosing important data?

Hello

Using delivered recovery CD you can install OS again. There is no option for any kind of ?OS repair?. I do not know how is your HDD configured but if you have 2 partitions and all your important data are saved on the second one you can install OS on the first partition using ?Expert mode?.

At the moment you can try to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to repair preinstalled OS.

Hello good people,

Please help me rescue data from a CD-RW that WinXPProSP2 cannot access.

On one CD-RW it reports being unable to copy data due to CRC error.
On second one, it cannot read disc at all, reports corrupted or incompatible disc.

There is no obvious physical damage on the discs.

Is there a proven software that can access data on CD and bypass this?

Alternatively, is there a program that can clone an image from such a CD (I'd like to send them to professional data recovery service, but I'd like to back them up first).

Already attempted:
Through cleaning of the discs
Trying in other computers
Several free/demo recovery programs from the web, all working under WinXP

Many thanks

My PC as of late has been running awful. When I have a game running it'll run fine, however it's navigating the PC when say in a browser, or just copying files, or anything really outside running a game that is running horrible. I ran malwarebytes and did a scan and corrected, same with Housecall, was gonna do a CCleaner but I'm at the point where I'm fed up and just want it running smoothly. When I'm in firefox if I do something as simple as ctrl D to bookmark a page everything freezes. So I'm ready for a fresh start.

I'm going to find my Windows 7 disc after work and reformat. However I would like to backup important info. If I clone hdd to hdd it'll save everything and make the reformat pointless as far as I know. So that's not an option. I know how to copy/paste my picture files. That's easy.

How would I go about saving my steam game files so that my in game progress is erased? I have a 160gb internal hdd installed, I'm using a 1tb internal for os and everything. So I can use the 160. I also have an external 160gb hdd I can use.

I started to clone the hdd and quickly realized that's not my course of action. So after backing up my browser bookmarks, and pictures, how do I save all my steam game files? Don't think i"m worried about losing any other data besides that.

How important is it when I burn a DVD, that I select data verification? I thought the hardware already does that to some degree. Is this just peace of mind then, or is there real merit in validating what you think you just burned? It adds about 50% to the time it takes to burn the DVD, so it's not trivial.

YES/NO on yes or no it logged off and went back to the log on screen, basicaly round in circles, then a friend advised to do a complete re-install over my origional O/S leaving files & folders intact, I did but when it came to the drive/directory to install the default was c:/windows highlited and my friend said to alter it to WINNT. Since then every application wont run asking to re-install applications files are missing, drivers are missing and my cd-drive wont open. Basically, I believe you are probably going to have to reinstall all your applications and drivers. You may be able to reinstall many of the drivers by pointing the wizard to c:\windows\system32 but you are probably better off just using your Dell Resource CD if you still have it.

You can open Outlook just fine still?

What can I do? I am really desprate to get this data back.

Evening all!

I've recently become tired of having all my videos, music, software installers, and other such things that are used by several PCs in the house scattered all over those PCs, taking up disk space and ending up being difficult to find when I need them.

What I want to do, is take an old PC I'm not using (the less money I spend the better), and set it up to host all of this stuff on a network drive.

Now I've done a little looking around on the net, and I've come across a little something called RAID. I like the idea of having some sort of failsafe should one of the drives die, because that PC will basically be the only copy of many things I've spent a few years accumulating lol. I've also read the Techguy "Guide for installing and configuring Raid" But there's still plenty of questions, and I'll never get a certain answer until I actually ask someone. Now, let's see....

I'll be using 4x 500GB drives in this system (follow link for Everest report).

Should I even look at RAID, or should I just try to keep the files on the first 1TB backed up nicely on the second 1TB? Of course, I would be tempted to use the "extra space", and keeping a constant backup would probably become annoying...

What's the best RAID level for me? From what I can tell, RAID-1 basically takes for example two drives, and uses one as a copy of the other, so that if something/one of the drives is lost, the data is not. ... Read more

Hi.
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, if not let me know.

The Problem: I accidentally deleted some important data from a hard drive. I desperately want to rescue at least some of it. It is a folder containing a large number of digital photos.

This is what I've done:
1. accidentally deleted files
2. deleted the three partitions that were on the drive and made the drive into one partition
3. formatted the drive using Windows Disk Management tool in Administrative Tools (Windows XP). I used the "Quick Format" option rather than the "Full Format". The file system of the drive (also before formatting) is: NTFS
4. Currently there is new data on the drive. I'm using it as a backup drive now.

This all happened a few days ago. Only now I have realized the goof up.

Please, if there is any way you know of that I might best be able to salvage any of the lost data, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

This is a follow up question from my last successfully answered question.
My Tecra 60GB HDD has stopped working and I would like to retrieve a few days of emails etc if possible.
The Tecra defaults to the Safe Mode options when started and returns via a BSOD no matter which safe mode option is taken.

I have:
checked in BIOS - it is seen as there.
ran SEATOOLs for Dos and it says there is a fault on the short and long tests
connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.
Ran CHKDSK via my XP CD and after 26% it says there are one or more unrecoverable errors.

Also I have tried an old HDD which works normally in the Tecra.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Wagga

Answer:Tecra HDD crash - how to retrieve some important data?

>connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.

Does this mean that you are not able to get access to the HDD even using an external USB case?
It looks like the HDD is corrupt and in most cases the data could not be recovered on usual way.
Of course there are different Data recovery services but they charge between ?500 and ?1000 to attempt to salvage data from either logical or mechanical disasters.

There are also different tools which could be helpful like RecoverMyFiles from GetData, Ontrack EasyRecovery DataRecovery or Prosoft's Data Rescue II but you have to pay for all these professional applications?

Here is also a nice youtube video:

Hi Everyone,

Today was a bad day for me as i lost every single file in my Hp laptop. I think it is all my mistake. let me explain what happend.

My laptop have 500GB HD. Laptop came up with 456GB of "C" Drive partition. Other 3 paritions were HP_Tools, Recovery and System.

"C" drive was half full when i decided to divide it into more drives to save important data from "C" to another drive. After searching on internet i came to know that windows 7 has a limit of 4 parititons. then i started searching for a quick solution to avoid full new windows installation. I installed a Mini Tool Parition manager and Set the "C" drive as Logical and shrinked more drives from C. Computer restarted Partition manager takes 10 minutes to do everything and then WIndows started and all was ok. But I wanted to have one more 100 gb partition from "C". I did it again using Parition manager and computer started all stuff was going well. Parition manager finshed everything and when computer restart nothing works. Every time computer restart from windows 7 Logo. I was sure that something goes wrong. i tried to repair it but repair takes 30 minutes and solved nothing for me. i canceled repair and try to install fresh windows 7. when i was selecting the "C" disk to install windows in it. I have always backed my personal hard drives using images for easy restoration

However i now have 2 PCs that need backup performed and they just want the data so an image is not necessary thus i only want the important data ie; documents and settings important files no junk such as updates or temp files

I would prefer to remove the hard drives and plug it into another pc to perform the backup instead of doing the back up from the actual machine

I was looking for the best possible way to perform this

Answer:Backing up hard drives to external, important data ie; pictures music

You can use Windows Backup via Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and REstore, just for backing up your data and settings. A simple backup of C:\Users\<your username> would suffice for most people unless you have your documents on a separate folder or drive.
I use a good third party backup program called Retrospec Pro from EMC (Retrospect).

Hi,
While re-installing Windows 10 on my Samsung ativ book 9 (15" core i7), I had two partitions (256 gb ssd) half capacity each one, one holds the os, and the other my data.
when selecting the partition where to install windows 10, it tolds me that I cannot so i googled it, i figured out that i have to clean the partition and then convert it to gpt using diskpart.
so i did but instead of cleaning the system partition it deleted all the disk data in a second.
I have now one unallocated partition (256 gb), i created 3 partition afterwars, 500mb efi, primary for os, and third for my data. windows 10 installated successfully, but my data all gone.
I tried every single data recovery app, but all of them just recover some ****ty folders that doesn't have any value like desktop.ini. (by the way, i tried in the days after this data earthquake not to have new data to avoid overwriting the old precious data)
any help to undo clean command or anything would be amazingly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Very Important data lost while installing windows 10 using diskpart clean partition, how can I get it back?

Unfortunately its your fault since you did not understand diskpart completely before using it. When using diskpart you might have selected the entire disk for the format rather than just the partition. There is no way your data can now be recovered.

I have an interesting situation. I have an old business computer that is running DOS on an IBM PS/2 Model 80 (20 years old). I need to get the data off of it! I'd like to just suck all the info off of the drive on to a new machine...I can take it from there. The problem is there is now way to get info off the system that I can think of. The Hard Drive is not IDE...it is the old IMB Microchannel system. The microchannel Floppy drive is bad. No network card. No Modem. Thought of a Lap Link cable transfer, but I have no way to load the software onto the dos machine to enable that. Any one have a work around?

Question: Recover USB Data

I am in a sticky situation.

I turned my USB drive into a bootable USB drive. The problem is, I turned the wrong one, the one with all my important files on it.

I would like to know if I could recover the files on my USB, but that isn't the biggest problem - because it's a bootable drive now, Vista does not sense it as a USB hard drive, it does not appear.

How can I get my data back?

2. Quick format? (Windows)
3. Full format (off of windows also)

What would be the best way to make sure no data recovery center can retrieve it?

WINDOWS XP BTW.

Answer:Possible to recover data?

Is it POSSIBLE yes. Is it EASY? NO. Except for the quick format, which just formats the file allocation table (or whatever it is called in NTFS).

THis is why people have devised programs like DBAN.

But whenever i start my system two operating systems appear on the screen and i have to slect microsoft windows vista if i select windows vista recovery it does not start.
Now tell me can i recover my data and how will my system start in a proper way without showing two operating whenever i start.

Answer:Can I recover my data?

Hello Mehrajhabibmir, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It depends on how you installed the fresh copy of Vista on whether you may be able to recover your data. Did you install it on the same partition as your previous Vista installation, or did you install it on a new partition or drive instead?

You can use the tutorial below to remove the Windows Vista Recovery entry.

During the installation after I had formatted the desired drive when I selected the drive to have the windows on an error popped up which told me that " We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one". Hello, I own a DELL INSPIRON 15 and I recently experienced a problem with desktop error in my operating system Windows Vista Premium 64bit. I tried to use System Restore but it didn't work. Dell offers a program called Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 to restore the laptop to it's original factory state. I backed up my files into a folder called Emergency, located on drive C, then I did the formatting. I checked and my files were there, I restored them, but when I restarted the laptop, the same desktop error appeared. So I foolishly did the formatting again, I did it because Dell DataSafe program assured the files that were in the Emergency folder were not going to be deleted. So I did it, and when I went to the Emergency folder everything was gone. I checked the disk space and there was more space available. So I tried to do a System Restore again to go back before I did the 2nd formatting, and now it is stucked again and Vista won't start. So I suppose I have to do a formatting again, but now I don't know how can I recover my files. Is there a way? Please help!

[drive] is not acceptable the disk structure is comupted and unreasonable

How to Recover Data?

Answer:How to Recover Data

Hi carlo67

not acceptable usually has some issues with the MBR...it can be repaired sometimes, but to recovery data first is more safer, after the data is back you can then choose to repaire or format or whatever. I myself use the Easeus backup software which is great, but noticed that they have recently got a beta version of the Data Recovery software, it seems simple yet efficient, you could also try just click out and download there, but the first thing after you recover the data, make sure you do backup regularily, also Macrium is a fine backup freebie, it's the safe way and much more easier when there is anything.

Question: Recover data

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with windows XP PRO (NTFS) installed and the computer hangs up during boot up. The hard drive seems to be corrupt. I read some of the sticky threads out here and the best option seems is to try and run the Maxtor Powerblast. However I fear losing some important data in my D and E drives on the harddisk. Is there any way I can boot into DOS copy some important data over to my external hardrive (connected through firewire) and then try this utility up. I tried Recovery console but I get an access is denied on most of the dos commands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Recover data

The absolute safest option is to remove the HardDrive and using a notebook to PC connector (they're usually about $1 on ebay) plug it into a Desktop computer as "Slave" (ie where the CD/DVD usually goes) and backup (using just explorer) from there.

Hello and thanks for reading, A few days ago I asked a question about recovering my data from a broken Raid0 array but had no solutions suggested. I've muddled my way through to the point where win7 can now see my array as a single stripped disk set in Disk Management. However it's showing as RAW. Now I haven't reformatted the drives as my understanding is that this will cause me to lose all my data. So my question is really how to proceed? Is there a way to mount the drives without reformatting them and then attempt to recover the data that is still (hopefully) on them?
Thanks in advance!

I still wish to ask this question as i am desperate for a solution if there's any. I was transferring images from my samsung monte mobile phone internal memory and like a dumbass i cut the folder and pasted it on my pc hard drive unfortunaltely the process got stuck with some 20seconds left and i canceled it (what a brilliant thing to do) and later the files got pasted with a few photos missing so here comes mistake no 3 i deleted the folder which was already pasted and went back to check the folder on my phone memory but it was nowhere to be found hence i wish to know is there a way to recover the files. Just a little help guys....

Answer:can i to recover data

vishwanath23, there're a number of 'recover' proggies around. An item isn't actually erased from a drive. All that actually happens is that the space it occupied in memory is marked as available for use and nothing is actually changed until the data is overwritten. So long as you haven't saved anything, you should be fine and even if you've overwritten the memory area, you may be able to recover part of your data. Question: Recover Data

Hello,

I am running a Windows XP system and have a need to find the deletion date of some data on my HDD (NTFS journaled). The trick is I do not know what the data is, I do know the date. Windows seems to record the creation date, modification dates, but does not make a obvious record for deletion dates. What I want to find out is how to use my NTFS USN journal to tell me what HDD changes were made but I do not know how to read the hex data "fsinfo usn enumdata" spits out. Ideally I would export the whole thing into a file and look for info there but I do not know how to do that either and that would be a huge file. Nevertheless I will make a 250 MB file if I have to because it is vital I find this information.

Thanks in advance.

I have been storing images from my digital camera (fuji finepix 2600z)since i got it last year.I was using adaptec software. I recently upgraded my computer and changed from W'98 to W'2000,my writer for a samsung (initially using sony writer)together with nero burning software. I transfered some new images onto my cd-r recently.I can now only find these new images on the cd.All of the older images appear to have gone from the disc, however when checking the disc in my computer I am informed that the cd has 649Mb and all 649Mb are used with the 24 images I recently put onto the cd.Yet the total size of all 24 images is only around 17Mb.I also am informed that these are stored/read on a UDF file system. When I checked the same cd on another computer running W'98 and adaptec software, the my computer facility informed me that the cd had 703Mb,of which 155Mb was used and 547Mb were free, and these were stored/read using CDUDF system. However I could still only access the last 24 images burnt onto the cd which account for only 17Mb of data. How can I gain access to all of the images stored onto my cd as this is the only record I have of these images, after upgrading my computer system. Thanks in anticipation to anybody out there who can sort this for me.

Answer:recover data from cd-r

Use "Scandisk" in the tools option of Adaptec to scan the disk. If the files are recoverable it will give you the option to do so. You may lose the last images you stored before the OS upgrade.

paresh12 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing to recover your lost data and wanted to help. No one can say for sure how much, if any, of the data you will be able to recover. You will need to do the following:1) Remove the drive from the PC2) Buy a USB-to-Hard drive adapter kit3) Connect the drive to a working PC4) Download and install this data recovery app on the working PC: Recover Data in 3 Steps With MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition - MajorGeeks5) Run the app to see what it can find and copy the recovered data to the working PC.Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution" -- to help others find the solution.========================================================================

Answer:Please Help! Need to recover data

Welcome to TSG! Sorry to hear of your difficulties.

The #1 thing to do in this scenario is to avoid touching the hard drive on the computer where the files are lost. Chances are they are still there, in a way.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html. You can burn the ISO file to a CD with ISO burning software like FreeISOBurner: http://www.freeisoburner.com. There are also ways to put the UBCD onto a USB drive.

You will want to have a USB flash drive or external hard drive big enough to hold your recovered files. You'll use a program called TestDisk to see if we can find the old partition.

You don't need to download it from here, but this documentation will be helpful in using TestDisk:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

Good luck!

As a side note I should say it is ideal to backup your files to some medium other than your hard disk. CDs, DVDs, and external hard drives are best. Then, should anything happen to your computer's hard drive you don't have to tread quite so carefully to get your system up and running.

I have a computer that will not boot even in safe mode for some reason. I tried to repair the OS (XP Home ed.) and 75 % through it hangs up and says that the repair cannot be completed. I would just assume reformat the drive aqnd do a fresh install but there are a bunch of pictures on there I wanna get first. I am wondering if I can hook up the problematic drive to my other pc which is just fine running XP pro SP2 as a slave and be able to look through the files and copy them to me good computer to burn them on dvd so I won't run into this again. I know there has to be aprogram that allows you to examine files on a hard drive that won't boot or is currupt from a good PC and explore files so as to recover them , anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Try booting off of a Linux LiveCD such as Ubuntu to see if you can see any data.

I have gotten a virus and have decided to reformat my drive. First, I need to recover some deleted photos. I have run stellar phoenix photo recovery, and it has successfully brought back many pictures, but some are still incomplete, and others are fuzzy/unveiwable. most importantly, i have gone through many of the recovered pictures (almost all), and the pictures I was specifically looking for have not shown up. HELP!

Answer:need to recover old data

A Linux live CD is an excellent way of recovering lost files, providing you have some idea where to look. Any Linux distro will do it but I find Puppy Linux the smallest and easiest to use.

After splitting C: drive into two partitions by disk management tool, i am facing following problems:
1. Start up/boot problem (Windows 7 not started)
2. one old partition is hidden

i made many different attempt to solve the issue but failed.

in my last attempt, i install new windows 7 at new partition
this time my old partition has gone to hide but it is viewable only in disk management tool; it is not active here

kindly help me to recover my old data which is placed at old partition.

thanking you in anticipation

Answer:want help to recover data

Did you (1) try unhiding the partition using Disk Management, or (2) assigning it a drive letter using Disk Management?

If both of these fail, you will need to use a data recovery app to get your data back. Is that what you are asking to do?

Question: recover data

I recently reformatted my computer, but for some reason, it formatted both my regular drive that I wanted to format, and my backup drive with all my data. I was wondering if there is going to be an "easy" and "free" method of recovering the data, specifically, reversing it back to the same condition it was in before the reformat.

Thanks!

Answer:recover data

No, sorry. Nothing particuarly easy but there are some choices. You can try a number of freeware apps such as this: http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ providing all you did was reformat and did not do anything else. I haven't used this but it was recommended once before here. It's for the NTFS file system. What file system was this drive?

I've used PCInspector and it's a fine tool but that was for recovering specific files not an entire drive's contents.

Question: recover data

I had to format my C drive and there were files on there that I wanted but forgot to copy them. Is there a way to retrieve them because system restore won't work after you install XP again

Answer:recover data

Once you have formatted your drive you haveto all intents and purposes lost all files on it.

there are forensic investigation utilities that might recover part or all of the files, but they are not available to the public and only to law enforcement bodies. It is debateable whether they will work, depending on the effectiveness of the format

Hi Guys!

My hard drive stop working and I have some important data in it; does anyone know how can I recover my data? Or if you know who can recover it and doesn’t charge me lots of money, plz let me know.

[email protected]

Answer:Want to Recover Data

1st Option: Remove hard drive and install as secondary drive on seperate machine, try to copy files across. If 2nd drive not allowing to read try....
2nd Option:Go to any 'shareware' 'freeware' site and download PC Inspector File Recovery, install on working drive again run check on drive and see if files are picked up.
3rd Option: Take to data recovery experts and pay $$$$$$$ Huge amounts, if spindles are damaged i.e. hard drive dead there is no other options i'm afraid, sorry.
