Created user account, unable to login

Question: Created user account, unable to login

Hi,

I created a secondary user account on my PC. When I try to login, it will look like it's logging in, but it just logs back out, returning to the main screen to choose an account to login to.

If I'm logged into my main account, and I switch users and try to login to the newly created secondary account, it logs me out of my main account, and doesn't login to the secondary account, and once again, returns to the main screen to choose an account to login to.

This also happens with the guest account.

In addition, it does not give me the generic error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

How can I fix this?

Preferred Solution: Created user account, unable to login

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Created user account, unable to login

Hello Dutch,

If you create a new user account of the same type, will it allow you to fully log on to it?

If so, then you might consider using it instead and copy over anything you want from the old account to the new one.

Hope this may help some.

I will start by saying I am new to the tech support forum thing, and this is my first site. I am an intern at a company working with a team who supports local and of site end users and maintaining the whole network functionality. The whole network is windows xp and windows 2003 server for file share and mail. Today I went to install a new printer and then logged into the user pc to whom needs the printer. I logged into the domain with my admin account to install the printer driver, the driver had been added to a folder on the network which is mapped. I installed and everything was fine. when the end user logged in her desktop was different so she called, and i checked it out, when she logged in rather than using her account it created user.domain account. No matter what we did we couldn't get her profile to load, we were able to recover everything from the account "user" but I didn't get what happened. Later that day my collegue experienced the same thing but this time the user logged onto a rogue account, what i mean is that the user was no where to be found in documents and settings. We saved a document on the rogue desktop, then logged in as admin to search the drive to find out where the document saved to locate profile, in the end it was non existant. Right after we logged into user and and all of a sudden the right profile loaded.

Does someone know what is going on?

I have two user accounts on my PC - Staff and Administrator. I loaded Win7 a few days ago and created the Staff account. Earlier today, I changed the Staff account from an Administrator to a Standard account. I was logged on as Staff when I did it. I then logged off and back on and when I did, only the Administrator account was on the login screen.

The Staff account still exists under Local Users and Groups. I disabled it, restarted and then reenabled it but no change. I don't think that it had a password when I deleted it - I don't add the password until I am done with the machine to make it easier - so many reboots.

The PC has Win7 Pro x86 and is on a workgroup. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to See User Account on Login Screen

Hello JolietTech, and welcome to Seven Forums.

While logged in to your Administrator account, see if you may be able to enable the Staff account using one of the other options in the tutorial below.

My client used their computer on 11/9 and upon returning to office 3 days later (computer had been left on, I think), the ususal username login took them to a brand new desktop with no files in the user folders. It's as if a new user had been created without their knowledge.

I am remotely accessing their machine to solve the issue and am stumped. Trying to do research and as much solving as possible remotely before actually going to client's home to fix things.

I see 3 folders under Users folder, BEARMAIN-PC is the network name for their computer, Bear is the username:
TEMP.BEARMAIN-PC modified date 11/12/15bear.BEARMAIN-PC modified date 10/26/15bear modified date 10/13/15

It appears that upon windows login to the only defined user called "Bear" on login screen, I am using the TEMP.client-PC folder of user files.

"bear.BEARMAIN-PC" has the most recently worked on files, with most recent edit date of 11/9/15, and the
"bear" folders have dates of 10/26/15.

I have no idea what happened here in clients absence (left town on 10th), the only thing that might've been running is Carbonite backups to a locally attached external drive, Dropbox, and my remote access program. In effect, I have a duplicate of everything on hard drive filling it up to all but 5GB, though the "bear.BEARMAIN-PC" is a larger size and more current file dates so I'll assume that's the one I want to keep.

This temp login does not hav... Read more

I was having some trouble with a newly installed program failing to run. Their tech support had me create a new user account (start, control panel, user accounts, create new account). I did not realize that creating a new administrator user account by following their instructions would make the original Administrator user account inaccessible. I dug through folders and found my documents and made sure they were all on my expansion drive. Now, I want my account back. Otherwise, I have to set up my entire computer again. The thought of this makes me turn into a velociraptor who wants to destroy the tech support that told me to do this.

As of right now, I have not internet connection on my computer. I tried searching forums from my phone, but it was extremely difficult (not the best phone). If this topic already exists and I just could not find it, please accept my apologies for the duplicate and post a link. Thanks!

Answer:Created new user account, original Administrator account disappeared

I just remembered that I could CTL ALT DELETE twice at the Welcome screen to get to the logon and type in Administrator. I haven't used it in years, so it did not occur to me. I am now in my administrator user account. If I delete the new user account, will it go back to the way it was before? Or will I screw something else up by doing that?

Hello, I am new to this forum so I apologize for any ignorance in advance.

I have a computer that all of the sudden had a new user account in windows explorer. e.g. user was Fliehs, now there is a user Fliehs and a user fliehs.FLIEHS1 as well.

I assume this is a virus. Has anyone see this type of activity before?

Answer:New user account created by itself.

You don't state what Antivirus AND Anti-Spyware programs you have running. Note you should have both to ensure high protection.

You could Google Fliehs and you'll see some stores are listed. Could have sales-related spyware (advertising) installed. Which is why you need a good Anti-Spyware program.

I suggest Spybot Search & Destroy (donationware), very good and I've use it since the Win98 days, and it is one of the recommended programs required where I work.

I have a few customers who are determined to screw it up or continually allow others who will. A couple of times recently, I have made service calls that if I could have gotten into the Administrator's account, I could have fixed it; but, some fool had changed passwords on both the user account and the Administator account.

Is there a way to create an invisible account with administrator privilidges that can be accessed in some way but that doesn't show up in the log-in screen or under Users and Passwords?

By the way, these were XP Home.

I checked the Security Log on the current admin account, but it didn't go back far enough.

The older admin accounts files were saved (the account I'm trying to find a creation date for was created while the previous admin account was active) Is there some file that the Security log wrote to that I would be able to look through to find this info? If yes, what would be the location?

I've also been reading a bit about the possibility of finding it in a SAM file, or Shell files. Anybody know if that is true?

Any software that I can download that will find this info?

Windows 7 keeps creating a new user account named mjhbeipjks. It is a standard user account. I have deleted it several times but it still keeps reappearing. Any suggestions what is causing the problem? My concern is that its is some potentially dangerous remote log in. I have run Malwarebytes which deleted a Trojan but it says system is clean now but problem still occurs. I am also running ESet Smart Security virus protection but nothing has showed up there.

While attempting to resolve a problem with my New DEL Precision M6400 Laptop (mind you, it's 30 Days only and Dell has already replaced the Hard Drive, Mouse, and 2 Motherboards...I think it was build on Friday at 4:49 pm), I inadvertently deleted the "Client for Microsoft Network".

It wasn't until I rebooted that I got the error message "Unable to Log on..." or something like that. Reading through this forum I discovered and corrected the problem...part way...

Once I rebooted, I selected to "Log on to This Laptop" but still no access to the network drives. I rebooted again and selected "Log on to Network" (were "Network" is the name of our network).

A few strange questions popped up (can't remember them now) and all of a sudden I've got a new user account on my laptop with different settings. As I'm the administrator on the Laptop, I checked the "User" list but the new account doesn't appear in there.

The original account was "dmarr", and now there's another account with "dmarr.adv" (adv is the network).

I don't want a bunch of useless accounts on this laptop, and I want my old profile back. I'm picky so, I'd like to get rid of the ".adv" account but I need that to log onto the network.

We're a small company so I share the "Network" responsibility with my partner and we contract the real stuff to others more experienced than I.

Hi, seen lots of threads about this error message but not in this context so I'm thinking I might get some joy from you oracle like marvels.

A customer I saw today had a family Win7 PC with four user profiles on it. All worked apart from one called Hannah. When selected it started to load but then just showed "The user profile service failed to logon. user profile cannot be loaded"

the account was hardly used (Hannah is 9) so we decided to delete it and make a new one with a different name. For some reason the exact same thing happened!

Reading up on this people say to open regedit and go to HKEYLOCAL MACHINE>software>microsoft>windowsnt>currentversion>profilelist.
All the profiles for the three working profiles were there but the profile for Hannah or the new profile I made wasnt present.

So its like windows has a problem with running a fourth profile rather than it having an issue with one. Any ideas on how I might go about fixing this?

Hello, I have a brand new dell laptop with Win 7 Home Premium. I recently bought a better harddrive for it and cloned the disk from the old one to the new, and the process worked fine without any issues. I booted into the new hdd, and everything appeared to be okay. But now theres this strange user account that keeps getting created every time I cold boot the system. I can delete it and it remains gone until the next cold boot (restarting however doesn't create the profile). The profile is empty and has to be "prepared" if I click it.

this is the account it makes, it doesn't appear to be created by a program that I can find. It doesn't seem to be a malicious software issue either. Maybe the clone did something to the registry? Looking for some help, haven't had any luck with google searching this issue.

Answer:Mystery User Account Created on Boot?

Ah just found out the cause... so it ended up being something I changed related to security software I own. Should have known. I changed the rights to a special user account that the software creates and it didn't like it, so I randomly generated this mystery account.

Hi. Pls, help. I know there are some old threads about this issue, but they didn't help me.

Home laptop, Acer, running Vista Home premium. I tried to maintain it properly.
It has two user accounts, one with admin rights, another standard.

Yesterday I tried to create a third user account, standard user. I did it running as admin and through Control panel/User accounts. Then at the same panel I activated parental control to that user. Also, using McAfee I set parental control for the same account too.

I logged off from admin account. I saw my new user account icon, clicked on it.
But I got two messages. One on small window, which said "Cannot change Visible in OnShow or OnHide." This window had "OK" button. After clicking it, I saw another message: "The User Profile service failed the log on. User Profile cannot be loaded"
After that the laptop logged off automatically and brought me to log on screen with icons for user accounts. And I can log on with my original user accounts.

Pls help me solve this problem. I found some threads about this problem, but they are not helpful so far. Deleting a new user account and creating another one, with different name, doesn't make difference.

About a year ago, I changed my main user account from "Jaime" to "Roggie" on a whim, and everything worked fine. This past weekend, I restarted my computer and when it came back up it had created a new user profile in c:/users/. All my files are still in
"c:/users/jaime/", but now everything loads from "c:/users/roggie". Is there any way to switch it back or am I going to have to recreate all my system settings? And why would it change over a year after I switched the names?

I've already tried createing a second user account called "Jaime" and renaming the current account back to "Jaime" - both resulted in a new folder called "Jaime_02" instead of going back.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm running Home Basic 32bit if thats any use at all.

Answer:Randomly created user account folder?

Hello Rogallia, and welcome to Vista Forums.

When you change the name of your user account, it will only change the name displayed in Vista and not for the "C:\Users\(user name)" folder. Instead, both the original and new user account name will be tied to that user account now.

The only way to change the name of the "C:\Users\(user name)" folder is to create a new user account instead with a different name than what is tied with any other user account.

If you had manually renamed the "C:\Users\(user name)" folder, then this may be why this had happened. This also is a cause of the dreaded User Profile Service failed error.

I would recommend that you create a new administrator account, copy anything you want from the old account's user folders over to the new account, then delete the old user account when done.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,The hard drive on our laptop was crashing so we bought a new one, used Apricorn EZgig software to clone the hard drive to the new drive and installed the new drive into the laptop.  It was working great last night but this morning I got a log in profile error that says the profile could be corrupt and it was logging me in with a temp one.  I did search the forums here and found one thread regarding this issue but the solutions offered are a bit beyond what I know how to do with a pc.  I understand that the profile is probably lost for good, and I'm okay with that, but I'd like to get the kids gaming files.  I do have the old hard drive on an external drive but I don't have a clue how to access them there.  I can log in with the other profiles but the game data is not on them, only on *my* profile (which is the one that won't start up.)  In the most simple terms, is there a way to transfer the files from the external hard drive (the one that I used until last night when I cloned it) or transfer them (easily) from the old profile to the new one that I had to create? Thanks in advance for all your help!Tina

My other account dissapeared and the one i'm on is on classic view i cant change it i try to got to user accounts to delete it but it just a blank page. internet explorer wont come up. and also it did something to system restore because i used it a few days ago and i tried it after this happened and it says "system restore has been turned off by group policy". any suggestions?

Answer:made a new user account for my computer created problems

What is "the rest of the story"?

Why did you create a new user account? How did you create it?

Your assertion that it "messed things up" seems to be awfully presumptive, if not erroneous. Creating a new user account is merely an administrative task, involving no changes to a system that would do anything more than add a user to the existing system.

I had Windows 10 configured to auto log on with only a single user account and haven't had a single issue until last night after a restart to apply updates. Now when I boot my PC I am stopped at the login screen stating my password is invalid. The reason it's invalid is I now have two accounts with my name assigned however the one it tries to log into by default is the newly created one (it looks like it simply duplicated my original) and it doesn't allow any access to Windows. I select my original and log in manually just fine.

The problem is there is only one User listed in the User Accounts settings and that account only appears on initial boot as I can log out to the login screen post boot and the account has disappeared. It's driving me nuts as I cannot find how to get rid of it and I'm sure it's something relatively simple with me just overthinking the problem.

Any help would be fantastic.

I want to change the name on my user folder

Hi, I'm just going to address that aspect. This has been asked a good number of times- the answer is no. Why? Although some methods are posted, in the end these are superficial- so many things deep in the registry need to be changed.

Your only option would be to create a new account, and move all to it as you've commented.

I read recently of an idea that Laplink PC Mover Express here can help- there used to be an MS special offer for free, but this has expired.

Hello.

I just moved in to my buddy from work, and decided to put a pass on my PC, since a lot of people go thru the house on weekends. I set up an account, gave it admin privileges, but when setup asked: "would you like to give that account access to files?" (or some similar question) I selected NO. When account loaded I couldn't get access to any of my files! The problem now is that I can't delete that new account, because it's the only account! I tried setting up another one with administrator privileges, but it doesn't ask that question anymore (would you like to give that account access to files?), so I can't get access?

Do you know a solution, or a step towards getting access to files back? Please share, I'll greatly appreciate any help from you.

Answer:Created User Account. How To Get Files Back or Delete it?

Try taking ownership. This needs to be done quite a bit in Vista, so if you want you can use this to add the option to your context menu instead of doing it manually:
Vista Take Ownership Context Menu

Or:

"Take Control"

I'm the only user on this laptop and my admin account was called "HybridPC" and I disabled the windows login screen. (Turn computer on and goes right to desktop). One day the welcome screen popped up out of nowhere and I had to login. I tried disabling the login screen to where it was before and now I've screwed things up royally. I cannot login to my original admin account or find it. All the files are still there on my C:\Users\HybridPC folder, but I've lost the profile and user.
I think I messed things up further by trying to create/delete other new user accounts. I've attached 3 screenshots showing my C:users folder, User account screen and the netplwiz.exe profiles.

I've been adding/deleting and can't get back to square one. I don't see my user at all on the welcome screen.
Thanks for your help!

Top User Folder is new today and odd looking as I was attempting to fix on my own.

After a power outage (Computer lost all power as well as the circuit for the room) I restarted my Windows 7 desktop to find a new user account there that I did not create. It has a random name "ohlascdrxvzd".

It does not list in the C:/Users folder, but is listed in the Control Panel: User Accounts - Manage Accounts, and on startup it is listed in the Account selection buttons.

I will delete the account from the control panel and restart the computer... I am not expecting it to go away as I have this exact problem (with a different random named user account) on another PC that lost power instead of shutting down correctly as well.

More after restart...
After the restart the Account no longer lists in the buttons to select User account on startup, but it is still listing in the Control Panel: User Accounts - Manage Accounts.
Arrrrrgh! ^ _ ^

Now I am ready to receive help.
Update info:

It is a "Standard user" permissioned account

I have not logged into the account.

The Guest account is turned off.

Answer:Mysterious random user account created after power failure.

Could be created by a bloatware security suite or Updates to access the PC for auto updating.

I would uninstall any bloatware AV to install and run a full scan with free recommended Microsoft Security Essentials.

In addition I'd install free scanner, decline trial, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads

Then check System Files with SFC /SCANNOW Command

I created another user account, tried to log into it, kept getting an error "Access denied, can't log on to System Event Notification Service service".

I signed back in to my admin account, went to control panel/admin tools/services and checked to see what my setting was on the System Event Notification Service. It was selected as started. I stopped it, set it to manual and again tried to access the other user account, I got the same response.

I'm really desperate to set up another account on my computer as I need to control what my kids do, block certain sites as well as other reasons. They are currently using my admin access which obviously gives them access to EVERYTHING.

Thanks all.

Answer:Created another user account, wont log on because of System Event failure.

I think winows 7 already has such a function and you can update your windows to win7.

I'm having an odd problem with an XP Pro machine. This machine 3 admin accounts and one limited guest account on it and has been that way for several years. Other than Windows and Firefox updates no new software has been loaded on the machine since the end of last year.

She couldn't narrow the time frame very well but sometime one to three weeks ago my wife's account did something strange and her desktop disappeared. She can still log in, still has admin rights, but her desktop has returned to its default settings.

I looked around and discovered in the 'Documents and Settings' folder her old home folder is still there and there is another folder with the same folder name plus an extention of dot computer name. When she logs in she is logging into the new UserName.ComputerName folder.

We have tried deleting the new folder but then when she logs in it is like the first time log in where it creates system settings and IE6 and all that and it also recreates the UserName.ComputerName folder.

How can we re-connect her login with the correct home folder?

Good day all

I followed these instructions this morning to try to install software for my wifi adapter that windows 10 keeps on blocking.
Administrator account - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums[1]=User%20Accounts
I logged out of my local account, then logged into my Administrator account.
After I had logged into my Admin account I realised I still had to take my wife to work.
Without doing anything in my admin account, I shut my computer down.
When I got back home I tried to log back into my admin account but kept getting a message "incorrect password"

The problem is I have not set a password for my Admin account.
I have also tried to use my microsoft password but that doesn't work either.

Apart from turning turning my pc into a projectile, is there anyone that can off me assistance?

Answer:Unable to log into Admin account even though no password was created

Is your local account also in the Administrators group ? you should be able to install the driver without using the Administrator Account. Just right click on the Installer then select Run as Admin.

Log back into your local account and try to run "System Restore" to previous state before you made the change.

I would like help solving a mystery.
I set up a new Dell Optiplex 3020 which shipped with Windows 10 Pro.
I bypassed the option to set up the user with a Microsoft Account (The owner does not have a microsoft account and I did not create one at that time.) and set up a Local User Account, the owner's FirstName only, with no password for the owner of the computer.
I also set up a Technical User local administrator account with a password "just in case." (I am glad I did.)
I unchecked and turned off everything that had to do with the Cloud and sharing information with Microsoft.
I installed the software, antivirus etc. including Windows Live Mail with an account with the ISP which the owner needed on the computer. I registered the computer using the owner's first and last names as well a registering the antivirus software account. In this process I restarted the computer several times with no problems logging back in with the local user account.
The computer ran updates twice during the setup process.
The next day the login screen was showing the owner's full name with the non-microsoft account e-mail address requiring a password for login. Since the owner did not have a Microsoft account nor a Microsoft account password logging in was not possible.
I tried the e-mail password that was used in Windows Live Mail to log in and I tried no password at all. Neither one worked.
To solve the log-in problem I logged in to Windows with the Technical User local account and pass... Read more

Hello.
I was reading an article on PCWorld or CNet today that mentions that a vast majority of Win10 security breaches could be avoided by using a User account instead of an admin account, for day to day use.
To this point, I've only used my Microsoft account as admin for my personal Surface Pro 3, and have all of the programs, Office, desktop apps, etc. configured.
I've just created a new user account for myself, not linked to my Microsoft account, and, upon getting to the desktop, I see that some, but not all, of the programs I've installed appear on the User desktop: eg Dropbox, several Win32 apps, Firefox, etc.
Is that normal for a new User account? Prior to having created the User account, my thinking was: since I've installed all of the programs I use on the PC while logged into my admin account, the User account (since it doesn't have the ability to install programs) should just "see" all of the programs already present on the computer.
Thanks,
crp

Answer:Shouldn't a newly created User account for myself have access to all previously installed programs?

If they are Win32 apps and don't provide the option "install for all users" and "install of this user" then by default it is usually the former. However for store apps that's a different story as they are tied to your microsoft account not the local user on the device. Plus you cannot download store apps without a microsoft account.
In regards to short cuts, they generally get placed in the all users directory therefore will appear for all users (for win32 applications).

Hi all,
Updated to 8.1, created a couple of users accounts - but unable to sign into these accounts. Clicking to sign in, simply shows (a few seconds later) - 'Signing out'. No errors or similar reported and nothing obvious in the Event Log of the Admin user.
Have tried a variety of accounts - with passwords, without, child accounts, etc - same result.
Any accounts existing prior to 8.1 seem to work okay.

Safety Scanner and SFC check found no problems. A bit more testing found that if I create a new Administrator user, then this user can be logged onto and works fine. Whereas the Standard or Child accounts still won't logon. Accounts created using a pre-existing 2nd Administrator user (i.e. pre 8.1) show the same behaviour.
Logged on as Admin1 (my account).
Created W-user2 (child user) - unable to logon
Created test-user (std user) - unable to logon
Created test-21-1 (std user - created 21/10/13 after sfc check) - unable to logon
Created Admin3 (admin user) - Logon successful
Logged on as Admin2 (pre-existing 2nd Admin account)
Created standard2 (std user) - unable to logon
Created child2 (child user) - unable to logon
Created Admin4 (admin user) - Logon successful
So, it looks like only new Admin users can logon. A pre-existing Standard user account can still logon (as before).

I'm really puzzled as to why this is happening. If any can suggest any tests or possible solutions I would be most gratef... Read more

I think it might be a virus or malware. I just downloaded some kind of patch to install windows themes. After I restarted my computer, it wouldn't let me login to either of my user accounts. Sometimes it will ask for a password and sometimes it wont but I don't use passwords. It wont even do anything when I click "Turn computer off". If I let it sit there it will keep restarting every few minutes. I can login to safe mode and change/delete passwords but it didn't help.

I have Windows 7 Professional and two days ago I turned my computer on and type password to my account and everything seems ok and I go out of my room for several minutes. When I came back Windows was still loading, without any error mesage, it looks good but it wont work. I tried several times to login but i can't, I even tried to login through Safe Mode- same story. Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in -  there was no log in available at all.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit some 5 months back and created following users account :-
User 1 admin
User 2 admin
Guest account standard (default)
Admin (default)

Till recently, none of the other accounts were ever used I was using Users 1 with admin privileges. I have noticed that none of the account including default Guest and Admin accounts work. Upon trying to log it returns with following error “The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.”

I deleted all the non functional account but default Admin account (which again doesn’t work). Created new account via CP with no success. Even newly created Guest Account (default) throws the same error.

I searched the forum for solution and found that I need to manually delete SID key. I don’t understand what I need to delete and attaching the screenshot for perusal.

To recap I currently have just 2 login; Default Admin and created cmc – admin

My laptop user ID was Administator, when I created a new account with administrator rights to use as login, I loggged in on it & immediatly the old one dissappeared. Now I left withvertually no programmes or settings, its back to when it was new 3 years ago!How do I restore the old default login ?I have already tried Windows restore to no avail - Help?

Answer:XP Pro User Account Login problem

The old Administrator account may still be there, try booting up in safe mode to see if it is, if so log on and try a system restore from there or possibly even deleting the new ID.

Every time Windows 8 boots, the system tries to login as the last user account that was used. If the account has a password, the user will be asked for a password first thing when the system starts up; if not, the system will directly log in to the user account.
Some users in my house don't want to have a password and I have to log out of their accounts and again log in to mine every time I start the computer after they used it. I'd just prefer to start with a tiled user list, in a similar fashion as it was in Windows 7 (or after you log out in Win 8).
Is it possible to disable this auto-login feature? The only way I found involves the system asking not only for the password but for the username as well, which is hardly satisfactory. Thanks!

Answer:User account auto-login

Hello Ben,

Unfortunately, the only way is to have each user account password protected. Otherwise it will always auto sign-in to the last user account that signed out if it's not password protected.

I was having trouble shutting down my laptop (programs freezing and such), so stupidly I held down the power button, even though it was accessing the hard drive sporadically. Anyway, I've since rebooted and now whenever I try to log into my user account, I get the message: "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case." At first I thought I may have corrupted my user account files, but I get this message no matter which account I try to log on with (including the Administrator account). So anyway, I can't get into safe mode either because that also requires me to log on as somebody and thus gives the same error.

Does anyone know if I might have corrupted some file that can be strategically replaced, thus magically allowing me to log on again, or is the whole situation hopeless and I'll have to reformat?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer:Login/User Account Troubles

You may want to check out this site on lost admin passwords:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
You can try the first option, if that won't work, try using one of the bootable floppies, I have tried this myself on Windows 2000 Pro and XP and the floppies always work. Good luck!

Hi 7forum!

This is my last resort, so please help me!
I have after a long time searching ended up here on this forum.

What I want to do is simply to remove the picture & frame on my login screen, only the password, my name, switch user should be left on the screen.

To clarify, I don't want to:
Remove the whole login screen.
Remove password protection.
Remove anything else except for that picture and frame.

Thats pretty much it, I would be really thankful if somebody could help me with this because I'm close to changing to linux just to get rid of it .

Thanks in advance!

Tsuun

Answer:One last try, Get rid of User Account picture on login screen.

I'm thinking a transparent .png picture would take care of the profile picture. As for the frame... that's above my pay grade right now

Somehow I have forgotten my password for my user account. Honestly I don't remember ever making one but nowadays I tend to forget plenty. For those wondering how I could have forgotten the password I haven't used my computer in almost 6 months.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried every password I've ever used and to no avail.

Then I used ctrl alt del to go into the other login screen and to login as administrator but that didn't work either. I tried "administrator" with no password, then "administrator" with "admin" as password, then "administrator" with passwords I frequently use. Nothing. Computer says check user name/domain/password.

Iam wondering: when I go into this login screen the "user name" window is already filled in with "photekxl," a handle that I frequently use (as you see here). If the window is already filled in does that mean I definitely have an account with that name, even though I don't remember the password?

Also tried "guest" with no pass and it says my guest account has been removed and to "contact the system administrator." Funny.

Please tell me there is a way to get into my files as a guest or something without having to login somewhere? Boot from a CD? Hack into it somehow? I have lots of school and work related files that I simply can't lose so reinstalling is not an option unless it's the only one. PLEASE HELP!!! Appreciate the responses.

Hi all
Mods feel free to move to appropriate sub.

I am having a issue with a network drive and Win10
ASUS AC 3100 router with a usb connected Western digital My Passport portable 1 tb drive.
The issue is when I attempt to access, I'm told to login to a live account. I forgot the password so I went thru the recovery procedure and Live said there was a problem with the account and delete the account and re-establish. I figured once the account was gone no problem, except the PC still wants a live password for that particular account.
1- What do I do now?
2- login for the PC is a pin, can I use the same pin to access the drive?
3-if so how?
4. Should i re-establish the Live account

Thanks

Hiwhen logging in to my xp account i have to wait at least 2 minutes, the welcome scrren just shows "loading user settings".I looked at my user profile in the system settings and noticed that my user profile for my account was 0.98GB. why is this so big and would this be effecting the log in speed? If so, how can i reduce this to a more acceptable level.

Hi Everyone!

I noticed that I have an additional account shown at my login screen. It's not a user account I created, and it doesn't show up under Control Panel>User Accounts. The only thing that shows up in the User Accounts page is my user account (shown as admin), and a guest account (shown as off).

I'm wondering if I should be worried about this second user account shown at the login screen, or if there was a way to remove/hide this 2nd user account from showing up at the login screen? I'm not sure how it came/shown up in the first place. I'm hoping someone can explain this issue to me and/or help! Thanks!

Answer:2nd user account at login screen, Should I be worried?

Your forum system specs indicate that you use Avast for your antivirus app. However, did you ever use ESET? If so, then please see this post. If not, then use Windows (file) Explorer to see is there is a user folder (C;\Users\username) for this additional account. If there is a user profile folder for this additional account, then the date on that folder and its sub-folders might give you a clue about how long the user account has been active.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP. This weekend Avast warned me I had trojans so it wanted to run boot scan. I let it run and it said it found a few things which I told it to delete. After that my computer would boot up to user accounts and then when I put in my password it would say loading personal setting and then go to blue screen. I went into safe mode and ran spybot, adware, deleted cookies, temp files and ran anti-malware scan, disk check, defrag, disk cleanup. Still no luck. I have attached the logs below. I hope they are correct. I really need help. This is my work computer and I do the books for my company and can't do anything until this is fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I got my son a Dell 2 in 1 laptop and set myself up as Administrator and set up an account for him.
It worked fine for a few days. But now he can't login to his account.
The password is correct, but it gives the error
"Windows can not connect to the Group Policy client Service."

I am able to login to the Administrator account. I know the laptop is still able to reach the internet. So, I don't know what the problem is here. The error gives no info on how to resolve it.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Hi,

i just had had this same issue occur, I solved it by doing the following:

1) in the search bar bottom left type - command - left click the found "command prompt" and select run as administrator
2) in the command window type - sfc /scannow - then hit return
3) this may take some time to run but it does report its progress
4) once finished reboot

you should now be able to log back in as non admin.

Hi.

I recently changed the settings on my computer's administrator account to deny access to third party cookies (can't remember how I did it or how to change back), I don't know if that effects the limited account, but now I can only login to email accounts with the administrator account. In the limited user account Gmail and Yahoo wont even load the login page. Hotmail will load the login page but when I enter my password it says their is no connection. Other logins, like here, seem to work.

I have XP sp3, IE8.

Is there any way that I can fix this so that I can login to email accounts using my limited user account?

Thanks.

There are 2 administrator accounts on this computer. Windows 8.1 is the OS. Desktop PC. One I have not had problems with temporary profile. The other account got a you are logged into a temporary profile. The background is black after I log in. Does this account need to be deleted and make a new account? How do I fix this?
I found this http://www.sysprobs.com/fixed-temporary-profile-windows... and did scan drive for problems. No errors were found.
I also did a sfc/scannow and I attached the results. I don't know what the results mean or how to access any of that information if I need to do so.
I wanted to know from you what are the next steps if any I need to do so that the temporary profile issue does not happen in the future.

What if anything can I do to prevent computer files getting corrupted?

Thanks for your time and help.

Hello

When I booted up my Acer netbook yesterday, I saw two user icons shown on the Windows login screen instead of one. Aside from my own, the other user name was 'spcnywicl' - not a good sign.

I logged into my own account and removed the user in the 'User Accounts' section of Control Panel. Unfortunately it keeps coming back.

I ran regedit and did a search for the above username. It cropped up in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows Search/CrawlScopeManager/Windows/SystemIndex/DefaultRules/7/

The bottom entry was

Name Type Data
URL REG_SZ file:///C:\Users\spcnywicl\Appdata\*

Any thoughts on what to do next?

I currently have Eset Smart Security 6, by the way.

Just as a followup, the problem seems to have been fixed by changing the user profile type to "local". Now, if I can just figure out why it was being changed in the first place...
Recently, I added Windows 2000 Pro to my system. I've been using it pretty exclusively, but I've run into a problem.

The problem started a couple of weeks ago, for no discernable reason (I'm sure there's one, I just don't remember it!): My user account started hanging on login. I could log on to it fine, though, if I logged into the Administrator account first after a reboot, then logged into the user account.

That is no longer true. Now the user account hangs every time. I know that the problem is with one of the programs that autostart on login. Problem is, in Win2kPro, I don't know how to turn off programs for that user account only!

I want to turn off all auto-starting programs, and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, I'll turn them on one by one, logging in and out for each, until I find the problem program...

I suspect the problem is with Norton's Systemworks 2002 suite, but I don't know where. I'm reluctant to just uninstall it from Admin, because I've already received Bugbear once this week, and don't want to leave myself open for possible further attacks.

Appreciate any application of Clue that you can provide. I'm pretty savvy with Win98SE, but am still in the learning curve with Win2000.

when my windows 7 32-bit laptop starts up and displays the login screen there is an account that it seems to want to default to called ./user

when the OS was loaded that was the original user account. since then that account has been deleted, however it is still showing up on the login screen. i believe at one point someone may have deleted this account from the user accounts on this laptop, as well as the folders associated with the profile.

does anyone know how to manage this annoying screen?

A couple of months ago I had to take my HP TouchSmart in to get a new fan put in, when It came back it had a user account called 'test' on it. I assumed the repair guys set it up to test something but I've tried deleting it and it just shows back up at the next login. As far as I can see there's nothing on it so I don't know why it won't delete, does someone know how I can get rid of it?
