Remote disable - disable USB selective suspend setting

Question: Remote disable - disable USB selective suspend setting

Is it possible to command line disable disable USB selective suspend setting? or even regedit it?

I've read this :

Powercfg Command-Line Options

and this : USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

and couldn't find a way to disable that specific option, unless I am missing something. I want to disable it when the computer is on battery, and wall plugged (laptops).

On battery is key, haha. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We would like to disable the usb selective suspend setting on our Windows 7 computers and can not find a way to do it without having to touch every computer.

Is there a registry setting or GPO setting we can change to make this easier.

We tried this registry entry and did not work. It seems it is only for Vista/XP

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB
Entry: DisableSelectiveSuspend
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 disables selective suspend mode. 0 enables selective suspend mode.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Answer:Disable USB Selective Suspend Setting for Windows 7 via GPO/Registry

*You can disable the USB Selective Suspend feature as a workaround by editing the registry. The USB device may become unresponsive because of a race condition in the Selective Suspend feature. The Selective Suspend feature suspends the USB device to efficiently
maintain battery power by enabling the computer to turn off the USB device. However, sometimes this feature may not correctly wake up the USB device. Therefore, the USB device is unresponsive when you try to use it.

You might want to disable this feature for server products where power management is not important or required.

*To disable the Selective Suspend feature, follow these steps:
Click Start and then click Run.
Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, and then use the Start Search box.
Type reedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor opens.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\USB
If the DisableSelectiveSuspend registry entry is present, double-click it. If it is not present, create the entry. To create the entry, follow these steps:

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
Type DisableSelectiveSuspend, and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data field, type 1 to disable the Selective Suspend feature, and then clicThanks, Swapnil Prajapati

Hi there- kind of an unusual problem. I'm having issues with a 3rd party Microsoft wireless controller receiver shutting off in game. One option I haven't explored yet is USB selective suspend messing with its power. Unfortunately, when I go to change the advanced power settings of my power plan on the Surface Book, there's no USB power settings at all. You can see it for yourself in the screenshot here:

Any ideas how to access this setting and turn off USB selective suspend, or another way to turn it off without going into power plan settings?

Answer:Unable to disable USB Selective Suspend

Try this:

Go into your device manager and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Under there you will see USB hubs. In the properties for these hubs you will see a power management tab. Go under that tab and uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn the hubs off.

Hey,
i was making some game backups from Steam to my external USB 3.0 Drive.
Kinda huge files that took 25 minutes to complete the backup. The backup was freezing at 68%.
I figure out that the disk was stop working while it was making the backup.
Then i disable this

And it worked perfect.
My question is, is it safe to keep this disable at all times? Or might damage the hardware?

I think this is a long shot but here goes....

I know how to turn off/on the "USB selective suspend setting". I actually don't mind that it is enabled however what I find annoying is when my external 'wakes', a window pops up showing all of my files on the external as if I just plugged it in for the first time. Is it possible to stop this popup window?

In Windows 8 when I plugged something in for the first time, I got a popup asking what I wanted to do with it. I didn't get that option with W10

Thanks

When my laptop is on critical battery level it suspends automatically. How do I avoid that? I want it to run until the battery is completely empty. Yes, I know I may lose data and damage the laptop; I do not care.

I know the answer is somewhere around the POWERCFG utility but that thing is way too complicated for me.

I use Windows 7 Professional x64.

Answer:Disable automatic suspend on critical battery level

Hello Ruido, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That's correct. The settings for this will be under Battery in your Advanced Power Plan Settings. You would just need to set what action or level you want for "On battery" under each item under Battery.

Hope this helps,

Found a strange power management problem today.  I disabled Optimus in the BIOS of my T530 recently, setting the video to "Discrete".  I later noticed that my computer no longer went to Sleep mode when I closed the lid, but instead Hibernated.  I double-checked the Power settings, and it was still set to Sleep on lid close.  Knowing that the only thing I had changed recently was selecting "Discrete" graphics in the BIOS, I put it back to Optimus and, lo and behold, without changing anything else, my computer resumed sleeping (pun intended) when I closed the lid.  Thanks.

I can sit there and the drive will spin up and then turn off every 30-45 min, it spins up and then spins down pretty fast as if it was just work up by me and then it is going back to sleep - I cant figure out what on my computer is waking it up but I dont care I dont want it to even go to sleep in the first place

I dont want the USB drives to ever, ever, EVER! spin down no matter what I dont care about power useage or drive life, I cant effing stand this, when I boot into Linux no problems at all the drive will stay running for hours at a time but stupid effing Windows dont work

Answer:USB selective suspend not working

Many times we see this behavior on certain machines but not others. It is a hard behavior to pin down.

Sometimes it is the motherboard, the chipset actually, or the chipset driver that is not playing nice with the particular external.
Also it can be the external drive itself, or the data cord, or the USB port that results in a transfer fault. You can test for this by plugging the drive into one of the rear USB ports that are connected to the motherboard, try all the USB ports, try a shorter/thicker data cable.
External drives that do not have a power supply and are powered only by USB are notorious for this. Some work better than others, even within the same model.

I run W7 and my external hard drive will run constantly if I let it, and I have not made any changes to my selective suspend settings from default. I believe your issue lies with your hardware.

The other thing I noticed were your 10 hard drives and RAID array. I can't help but wonder if that might have something to do with it.

In Vista there's an advanced power setting for this that you can either enable or disable. Windows Help and Support tells you everything except what you really need to know. I've been reading what I could find about it online and now I'm more confused than ever. For this to work, does the USB device also have to support Selective Suspend, anyone know?

My USB mouse (Microsoft WheelMouse Optical 1.1A) enters a low power idle state after a few seconds despite me having disabled USB selective suspend from the power plan settings and setting EnableSelectiveSuspend to 0 in the registry of the root hub device parameters.
I have already gone through input.inf, msmouse.inf and usbport.inf in the DriverStore's FileRepository to look for potential driver-sided suspend or idle settings, but only found AddReg values concerning the EnableSelectiveSuspend key and changing those to disabled didn't help. I could not locate HcDisableSelectiveSuspend, DeviceIdleEnabled, DefaultIdleState, UserSetDeviceIdleEnabled in the infs.

I suspect the mouse internally is set to enter idle and request the bus to power down accordingly.
Is there any way to forcefully disable suspending of the mouse? Is taking USB power policy ownership necessary to overrule the device's specifications?
Thanks!

Answer:Disabling selective suspend for USB devices

I really can't answer that, except you have done everything I know of to stop it from the computer side. If the mouse is set internally to automatically do that, there is no way you can disable it unless there is a setting in the mouse software.

My power efficiency report is telling me that none of my USB hubs and devices are entering selective suspend. My question is: Should I care?

Answer:USB Devices Not Entering Selective Suspend

Got it figured.

A USB device sends a message to Windows at the expiration of its idle timer, asking Windows to put the USB port in a suspended state. If you disable USB selective suspend, Windows will return a failure to the driver when the driver asks Windows to put the USB port in a suspended state.

In my case, Windows is returning a failure to the driver, even though selective suspend is enabled. I have not found a good reason for this.
Considering the minuscule amount of power that is wasted by not suspending USB ports, I'm not going to worry about it. Another one of Microsoft's unhelpful reports. That's why I forever have to 'explore other options'.

I'm trying to get a handle on the sleep timeout of the USB port to which I've connected an external USB-powered HD. With 'Power Options > ... Advanced Power Settings > ...USB selective suspend setting' set to Enabled, the external drive does power down to sleep mode, but, as best I can determine, with a timeout of ~10 minutes, irrespective of the general power settings (e.g., internal HD power down:Never, sleep: Never). But I can't find what actually sets the timeout of the USB port. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics\Performance\Suspend gives lots of USB timings, but these are in ms, nowhere near the minutes I observe.)

Does anyone know what controls the USB port timeouts and how to vary or at least verify them?

Answer:selective suspend cycle time

I think with External USB it's in the firmware. I had Seagates where I could download a program to control it. I set it to never spin down. Also even with some USB docking stations, namely Sharkoon USB 3.0 it would spin down if not accessed every few minutes. I wrote a program DriveAlive, to create or delete a dummy file every 5 minutes to keep it from spinning down.

You can download DriveAlive from my page here:

Answer:T430: USB device not entering selective suspend

I think you have two issues: computer does not enter sleep mode and your CPU cannot enter the lowest power states because USB selective suspend is not working. A device issue that prevents USB selective suspend should not prevent sleep mode. Instead, it will only reduce your battery life because your CPU cannot enter the lowest power states. Sleep mode:powercfg has other commands that allow you to see what has requested that the computer stay awake (e.g. powercfg -requests). The most common reason for the PC to stay awake is when the computer thinks it is sharing something with another device. USB Selective SuspendI have the same problem with my T430s on Windows 8.1. It's either a driver, BIOS, or hardware issue. What I have noticed is that the Bluetooth driver state is messed up during the process of entering or exiting sleep mode. For example, if I turn on my bluetooth radio, restart my computer, and run the energy command, I receive no USB selective suspend error. Then, if I put my computer to sleep, wake it back up, and run the same energy command, I will receive the USB selective suspend error (regardless of how long I wait after exiting sleep). Since I do not use the bluetooth on my laptop that often, I have disabled the feature in the BIOS. Sleep mode takes longer to enterIn general, I have noticed that in comparison to my laptop when I originally purchased my PC, sleep mode takes much longer to enter. Sleep mode took approximately 2 seconds to enter at ... Read more

Seems like, ever since I upgraded to 8.1, my mouse goes to sleep along with my hard drives when my PC is not in use. Let me elaborate.

I use like 3 computers on a kvm switch. Prior to upgrade, I just set my Windows 8 machine to never ever sleep/hibernate, and I have replicated this setting after upgrading to 8.1. What this allowed me to do, was switch to the Windows 8 machine on my kvm, wiggle the mouse a little, and the screen would typically pop up right away (though monitor would sleep after 20 min). Now, whenever I switch to the windows 8 machine, even if the screen is not black (ie monitor is not yet sleeping), I typically have to wait for about 20-30 seconds for my mouse to wake up. Not every time actually, just every time I am switching back to the machine after at least say a 10 minute period of no use. I think this has something to do with power settings, and usb devices set to go to sleep after a period of un-use. I am great with this function extending to my external usb hard drives, and do not want to disable this function on those, but under power settings, it would seem to be an all or nothing option.. HI definitely do not want my usb mouse to ever go to sleep if possible, and in the past, this was never a problem.

Is there a way to enable just the mouse in power settings, or am I completely on the wrong track with this all together? Any help appreciated!!

Answer:Windows 8.1 - USB Selective suspend and USB Mouse - Power

Just a very easy thing to try. I have 8.1 on my laptop and a simple left-click (instead of a wiggle) works everytime. So, before we go too deep, please try it. Good luck.

Answer:How Do I Disable Onboard Vga Setting

You will need to enter the BIOS menu when restarting your computer. There may be a message displayed on the screen telling you which key to press to enter the BIOS. For most systems it is one of Delete, Esc, F1 or F2.

When you are in the BIOS one of the catagories will allow you to disable the on-board graphics device. This presupposes that the motherboard doesn't automatically disable the on-board graphics when it detects a new graphics card.

I am working on a new installation of w2k3 server and it seems the previous person decided to setup "roaming profiles" in some screwed up way.

some how they had setup a policy/script that setup a remote location for the start menu and also setup offline files. I disabled the offline files but I can not get the remote start menu to default back to the standard windows location

I searched through the windows registry and found a setting for start menu that matched the remote location but unfortunately it keeps defaulting back. I also disabled system restore to resolve the issue.

Any ideas on what to try next?

Answer:XP Pro - Remote start menu disable

Open the Group Policy Management console. Locate any GPO's that might apply to the users. Start with the Default Domain Policy, unless there's another more obvious policy.

Edit the policy and look in "User Configuration - Windows Settings - Folder Redirection."

You can alternatively look in the "Group Policy Results" section to try and determine which policies are at play by modeling the user policy.

Hi all --

My first post on this forum so hopefully I give enough info to help solve my problem.

I just upgraded my HTPC and so built my first Win7 PC (never had a need to upgrade from XP, believe it or not). So far I am quite impressed but I am having a number of issues with power management. I'd love some help tying all these together so I'll start at the beginning.

I've had the machine running for two weeks now. It's an Intel DH77DF mobo, all the newest drivers on it, fresh from Intel's site. At first I noticed the keyboard would become unresponsive after a while -- not even the lights for caps/num lock would turn on (MS Wired Keyboard 600). So I figured it was shutting off the USB ports and so I went into Device Manager and hit the properties for all USB ports and unchecked allowing Windows to shut them off to save power. I then went to power management and turned it on to maximum performance.

Next morning, I wake up and go to hit the PC to put on some music and the keyboard is unresponsive again. (Aside: I have two keyboards connected, the MS one mentioned earlier and a Logitech diNovo Mini for HTPC stuff. There's also an old MS wired mouse attached (which has never lost power, oddly enough).) I restart to bring the keyboard back around -- because unplugging it and putting it in any USB port won't bring it back -- and when I restart, it takes FOREVER. I'm talking 15-20 minutes (when boot after POST takes like 30 seconds). The restart eventually craps out to a ... Read more

Some how someone set a password on the Bios setting to a computer at the office. When I try to boot up now it will prompt me for the password. Apparently, the person who use the computer did not set the password and don't know who did.

How do I disable the Password. I've try flashing the Bios, but did not work. I need to disable the password first according to American megatrend, inc before I could attempt to flash the Bios. I've even try pulling out the CMOS battery, and reboot. still I get the same results. Do I have to leave the Cmos battery off and let it drain first and then try again to reset itself?

Any other solutions out there, please?

Thanks in advance,
CF

Answer:Need to disable BIOS password setting

You may need to leave the battery out for a little longer, also, there may be a jumper near the battery that when set correctly then returned to normal will also clear BIOS settings. We would need more information on the motherboard to be sure though.

Would like to disable this key combo while in games full screen mode. I know this has been an issue for a number of years now, and I'm very surprised that windows hasn't addressed it with some kind of built-in setting option, but I will certainly accept any functioning workaround.

Answer:Is there a Win7 setting that will disable Alt+tab function?

Hello Korby and welcome to Seven Forums.

I don't believe there's a built in way to disable Alt+Tab. But there's an open source program called AutoHotKey that should be able to do what you want.

Friends i have got answer for few questionsAns 1) you can just simply disable the "windows installer service". Just go to run and type "msconfig" and under the services tab find and uncheck the service. It works for all versions of windows.Ans 2 ) For problem number two go here(for USB drive)->http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-disable-usb-ports-to-prevent-malware-infection/For Cd driveStart > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives >Right click on each drives & disable.

I'm trying to disable password saving for Remote desktop clients connecting to a Remote desktop server. The connect goes through an SSL TS Gateway. I've used Group Policy to disable password saving (On the client machines), and it works, until I enter the TS Gateway connection info. (If I just enter the hostname, and nothing under the TS Gateway , it remotes the "save my password" checkbox.)

The client machines connect using Windows 7 SP1 and Windows ThinPC SP1 to a Terminal Server running Windows 2008 R2 SP1, and the TS Gateway is also Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

I've followed Microsoft's KB article, and I've ensured that the settings are updated in the registry as well. I've tried applying the policy to Users and the Computer, and neither work.

I currently have two computers, however one of them seems to have a virus, and nothing is working. I can log on, but as soon as I do it spam pops up all over the place and effectively freezes the computer. I know WHICH process is doing it, however I can't use taskkill on my other computer as the firewall is still up. I have the username and password for the other computer (obviously), so are there any commands to disable it (the firewall) remotely?

when i was using XP its like i can enter nothing as a password and get to use my account from the laptop but on windows 7 and vista its like i have to set a password and it doesnt take nothing as a password even if i dont have a password !!!!
i asked some one and he used regedit to disable it but i cant contact him again :S heellllppppp !!!

Answer:disable remote desktop password requirement

Local Security Policy > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options
At the top of the list is "Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only"

This setting was enabled by default in Windows XP as well. So in other words you must have disabled this value on Windows XP to be able to use blank passwords from the network.

I DO NOT recommended disabling this setting.

Alright, I have a win2kAdvSvr and i use it to VPN into my network from elsewere... and have been for a while. Well, I just recently have run into a problem...

I installed a modem in the server, a v.92.. so I could use a caller ID program that tells the rest of the computers in the house who is calling (server program on the server connects to defined clients apon phone ring and sends the caller ID information)..

But the caller ID program doesn't accually pick up the phone, which is what I want... but the problem is the R&RA server DOES pick up the phone and tries to make a dial-in connection with the caller... who could very well be my grandmother inviting me to dinner... so you see my problem? I need to disable dial-in all together, i want the R&RA server to ignore the modem completely and have no idea how to do it. Thanks.

Anyways I use Windows Remote Desktop all the time to connect to the computer and control it from my LAN. Problem now is that it has multi user remote desktop. So if I open up a program from the computer itself and then log on from another. Its a completely blank desktop without my applications running.

I am using same Username and Password but under Users it has id 0 and 1.
So trying to get it so physical access and Remote Desktop access to have the same desktop. With same locations.

Hey guys, I have a motorola SB5100 cable modem.
It's in a real difficult position to get to (physically) however, and what I would like to do is enable or disable the internet on it remotely. I can access my wireless router's firmware to change options. Is there a way I can do this with the modem as well?

When I enable/disable it (by pushing the button on top), the modem remains on, it just starts or ends the connection to the internet. But getting to the modem is really difficult and I would like to do this remotely via ethernet or wireless (through the router).

Any and all help will be VERY appreciated!

Thanks!

Nope, unfortuantly the firmware doesn't allow for that feature. Why do you want to disable internet in the first place? If your that desperate you could disable/enable your NIC card, but kinda seems pointless to me

Simple create a batch file and save it on remote host: put this command in the batch file if the remote host is Windows 10, change the session ID 1 to 0 if it's a legacy Windows:

Code:
tscon.exe 1 /dest:console

Because the tscon.exe needs to be run elevated (as administrator), create an elevated shortcut for your batch file and place the shortcut on desktop of the host. Now when you want to disconnect the session and unlock the remote host restoring the local user's desktop, simply double click / tap the shortcut.

Check this tutorial at our sister site the Seven Forums for creating an elevated shortcut: Elevated Program Shortcut - Create for Standard User - Windows 7 Help Forums

I simply want to do the equivalent of "Disable IMAPI Service (Work's in most cases)" back in the days of Win XP

So in Win 7, I found the above link, and the title says How to Disable a CD Burning Group Policy

but at the bottom, it says ENABLE

Is microsoft saying "Enabling Remove CD burning feature"?
Or is disable means really disable CD burning feature?

Answer:Does Disable CD burning policy at Win 7 means Enable or Disable?

The option is "Remove CD Burning Features" and the selection you want is Enabled which means ""Remove CD Burning Features are now enabled" hence they are removed and burning is not allowed.

Yes, I agree, Microsoft does choose some rather stupid terminology to do some things, especially the file copy/overwrite dialogues which can be truly confusing for some people.

It would have been more efficient and simple to name the option "CD Burning Features" and that is either enabled or disabled, but no... they gotta make it twist in on itself with semantic bullshit.

The whole enabled/disabled thing would be better served with simple yes or no choices.

Hello my friends,

I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).

I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.

Help I did try everything i could find on the internet, but to no avail.

Answer:Can't disable Ctrl Alt Disable on Windows 10 Login screen

Hello TheBlackRussian,

That tutorial is for disabling the lock screen itself instead. The lock screen cannot be disabled if you have the CTLR+ALT+DELETE secure sign-in enabled. If you wanted to keep the lock screen, then be sure to enable it again before doing the tutorial below.

You'll want to use the tutorial below instead to only disable secure sign-in.

I have been searching around to see if there is a way to keep the setting within the About:Config enabled in Firefox for the Diffie-Hellman. I have some servers that are vunverable to the 'Log Jam' hack, but I have not controll over the systems servers to fix that since I am not responsible for them. I have been using Chrome to help rememdy this as this shows me the warning page before I proceed to the server's wbpage. This used to be the case in Fireofx before update 39, but that does not show me the ability of the warning page anymore and just tells me that this site is vulnerable to 'Log Jam'. I understand that the risk, but alow me to proceed to webste.
Has anyone found it so that you do not have to disable the settings in About:Config, or there is no workaround at the moment? Hoping Mozlla works on this, brings back the warning page for situations such as this.

If you have "a lot" of physical memory, say 2 GB of DDR RAM, and are running Windows XP Pro, is there any need for a page file that can add up to an additional few GB of "wasted" space on one's hard drive? I remember reading in either this sub-forum or the memory one of how some people set their initial and maximum size of the page file size to 0 MB so that only the RAM would be used for memory and never doing the disk swapping.

My questions are:
1.) Is there any danger/risk in setting the page file size to be 0 MB?
2.) Would Windows inefficiently use the paging file instead of the actual RAM if some RAM is available?
3.) For question #2, if Windows handles memory efficiently, then in theory, if your OS and apps never use more than 2 GB of RAM (given my example), then the page file would never be utilized, so it doesn't make any difference if it is set to 0 MB or 4096 MB, right?
4.) Is setting the initial and maximum size to 0 MB the same as selecting the radio button that says "No paging file"?

Your input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Instead of drudging this up one more time, you might want to just read the sticky instead.

Exactly what the title asks..

Nothing in mouse properties.
Nothing in device manager.

What am i missing? How does one disable the mousepad?!

Answer:how to: disable mousepad on win8? no 'disable' button

That is not a Windows function so you cannot disable it in Windows without disabling the entire driver, which is not a good idea. Sadly you failed to tell us anything about your computer. Assuming a notebook, you need to look at your key labels or in your manual to see how to disable the pad. It typically is a Function key combination. On my Toshiba, Fn + F9 will disable/enable the touchpad.

I'm certain I'm not the only person with this problem.
Bluetooth is installed on my Samsung laptop running the latest version of Windows 10. Here's the problem: every so often a routine Windows update totally disables Bluetooth, or rather, prevents it from being discovered. It's there, but isn't recognised in Settings. It's hidden in Device Manager. So it's gone, dead, unusable, can't be made to connect or even to be visible.
Then another Microsoft update comes along after a few days or a week or a month, and suddenly all is well again! As if by magic, Bluetooth reappears in the systems tray and works like a charm, as if it had never gone away.
This is happening constantly. It's flip-flopped like this about five or six times. Windows update, no Bluetooth. Next Windows update, Bluetooth is back. Another Windows update, Bluetooth is gone again.
This is ridiculous. Windows needs to solve this anomaly. Look online and you will see that many people are experiencing it. Oh, and by the way I've followed every fix, every tutorials, nothing works. The only thing that works is to wait for the next blinkin' Windows update to fix it.
And, since opening my computer this morning after the most recent update, to find Bluetooth has once again vanished, that's what I guess I have to do -- wait for the next update and hope it includes a fix. (Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.)
This is NOT a problem with my laptop or with the driver or anything like that. This is a Windows update problem... Read more

Hello all,

I have a Windows 7 enterprise computer in a Windows domine, the problem is that I'm trying to disable the touchpad mouse of my computer but when I go to Device manager and see the properties of the Mouse Driver the button "Disable" is disable, I think that is something with domain politics and I can enable the button modifying regedit but I am not shoure of this and I do not what key of the regedit I would have to modify.
I add a photo so you can se what is the problem becose my english is not Good.

Thank you all.

Answer:The button for "Disable" a driver in Device Manager is disable

Welcome to the Seven Forums David!

I see the same thing on a W7 Pro laptop - the same button that you have highlighted is disabled.

Try this:
Start > Control Panel
In the upper right corner, change "View by:" to small icons or large icons
Locate and click on "Mouse"

See if you can disable the touch pad from there.

Hello, an annoying issue here.

One of the programs I am attempting to have working correctly works fine when "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" is checked off. However, upon exiting the program, it is rechecked by windows automatically.

I am running Windows 8.1 on this machine and (due to no Local Group Policy Editor) I have already attempted to modify the registry via this link:

Program Compatibility Assistant - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums

However, I'm not 100% sure if it worked or if it is applicable to this specific issue.

Thanks ahead of time for any help/insight

edit: I tried using a different (older) version of the program with no change

Hi, I have an old application that I need to get working in Windows 8. I have it up and running but there is one small thing left, and that is to 'disable visual themes'.
In earlier versions of windows there was an option on the Compatibility tab of a shortcut/program for this, but it is not available in Windows 8. Is there a way to use Compatibility Administrator to create a shim for this, or is there another way to activate
this setting?
With out it, the application messes up the 'maximize/minimize' buttons AND it goes completly blank (White window) under certain circumstances.

Answer:Compatibility administrator and the old setting "Disable Visual Themes"

this is by design. In Windows 8 the Desktop Composition is always on. This is required for the new "Metro" UI.

Description
In Windows 8, Desktop Window Manager (DWM) is always ON and cannot be disabled by end users and apps. As in Windows 7, DWM is used to compose the desktop. In addition to experiences enabled in Windows 7, now DWM desktop
composition enables desktop composition for all themes, support for Stereoscopic 3D, and management, separation, and protection of the experience with Windows Store apps.
Desktop composition for all themes
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, desktop composition is enabled only with the AERO Glass Theme. Hence users of Windows Classic and high contrast themes cannot use experiences enabled by desktop composition such as Windows Flip, automatic
scaling for high resolution (DPI) scaling, thumbnail Preview and full screen magnifier. In addition, in these earlier versions of Windows, app developers must write and maintain multiple code paths ? one where desktop composition is enabled and another where
desktop composition is disabled.

Is there a command to enable / disable the mouse-setting "Enhance pointer precision" ?
Also, where in registry is that setting stored ?
I was thinking about using a reg-script but I cannot find any setting in registry.
I have searched on the net and it seems that others are also wondering where it is stored.

Answer:Command to enable / disable the mouse-setting "Enhance pointer precision" ?

Control Panel should have a mouse section, all your controls will be in there. I'm not at home, so I cannot look it up the exact section or choices within.

Hi We are a small school shortly to run public examinations; our Foreign languages exams have a listening-to-speech exercise and we would like to play the examination CDs using computers; we need to prevent students in the
exam using the shift/control/S option to slow down playback speed (which might make the test easier). Is there any way of turning off this facility (perhaps via Group Policy?) Thanks for any help.

hi
how can i disable the feature remember each folder's view setting
here is a screenshow , i can' t find in my windows 7

http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/...ings-apply.jpg

can you help me please

thanks

Answer:how disable "remember each folder's view setting"

That feature was removed in windows 7 as a means of making it more efficient than vista. Storing view settings each file over will slow a computer down significantly over time. You can set a default view for files which have a specific type of content, but not for each individual file.

My computer (Win7 - "A") used to log into another Win7 - "B" perfectly.
Yesterday during an RDP session on logout it lost the background and only offers a black screen.
Now If I log into Win - "B" I get a black screen.
However if I RDP into Win - "B" from a Mac it works normally.
It gets worse:
If I RDP into Win - "B" from another Windows machine I get the same black screen.
But if I log in to another windows machine from Win - "A" that works fine.

Where should I start looking?

I have tried changing the resolution, tried sending Ctrl+Alt+End, creating a new Account - nix!

Any advice please?

Jean

Answer:Selective Black Screen on remote computer with RDP

Quite a conundrum! Are all the Windows machines kept similarly updated, the remote desktop updates in particular? Were there any updates or software changes to B recently?

My only other suggestion is to open Group Policy Editor (type gpedit.msc in the start menu text box) and see if any of the Remote Desktop settings are different between the machines:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services

Answer:disable "hardware, Advanced, System Protection, Remote" tabs in system

I'm inclined to say no, for a very simple reason.
Changing the computer name requires administrator access. Given that, the user already has full control over the entire computer, therefore he can change whatever he wants.
What's the purpose of such "limitation"?

I followed the instructions here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-hibernate-option-in-windows-7/ and it seemed to work because  "Hibernate" disappeared from the start menu. Answer:Is it possible to disable avg

Hmm, I can't imagine why anyone would want to turn off AVG or parts of it, however, right-click on AVG icon and open AVG Control Center and then under Information click on Help Topics. Then a little searching will answer your question.
