Windows explorer navigation pane

Question: Windows explorer navigation pane

Hi!

I got a problem with the sidebar in windows explorer. Sometimes when i open it the only things that shows is the favorites, libraries and homegroup titles but non of the folders or links that are supposed to be there.

It stays like that for a while and then its back to normal (but only if/when i open a new explorer window). Im able to access e.g. the libraries when its like this but it looks like its searching for them but cant find them.

Help is very much appriciated
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Windows explorer navigation pane

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows explorer navigation pane

It can take a while to load everything on various machines, depending on hardware and configuration.

If you don't want it to load all folders, ( which takes time);

Navigation Pane - Automatically expand to current folder[2]=File%20Folder%20Settings

there are other tutorials there on this and similar matters.

By the way, that window is known as the "Explorer Navigation Pane", "Sidebar" refers to something else.

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Navigation Pane and Preview Pane Bug

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

https://explorerplusplus.com/

It's portable and runs without installation.

Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++

I sure hope there is a way to stop it. I have tried for a long time to get used to it but it just isn't my cup of tea!
Thank You in Advance for whatever information you can give.

I'm a 5 day Win 8 new-bee leaning new stuff every day.
The latest thing to have me stumped is the Navigation Pane in explorer.
I don't want them all to look the same. I have folders on my desktop, in which all I want to see is the short cuts to apps. I went into View/Navigation Pane, and deselected Navigation Pane. I got the look I wanted, but it applied to all folders that I opened. Whenever I click on Windows Explorer, the Navigation pane was missing. If I restored it, it again applied to all folders. I am NOT clicking on Apply to All Folders in View/Options. So why can't I get what I want?

Answer:Windows Explorer Navigation Pane - What am I doing wrong?

Hello Jeff, and welcome to Eight Forums.

In File Explorer (renamed Windows Explorer), the navigation pane turn on or off setting is a universal setting for all folders and libraries windows. It can't be turned on or off for some and not others.

It was this way in Vista and Windows 7 as well.

Good day to all,

I'm trying to fix a small annoyance of mine with Windows Explorer. I would like the "Computer" to be permanently expanded. Here are some images that will clarify what I am trying to accomplish. The 1st image is what my navigation pane currently looks like, the 2nd is what I would like for it to look like

1st Image
2nd Image

I would also like to remove certain items in the Navigation pane that I don't use such as "Network" and/or "Control Panel" if possible. I have tried a program that was suggested in another post which was suggested by the user mickey megabyte and can be found [URL="[/URL] . However sadly, this program did not remove any of these unwanted items.

I wasn't certain which forum to post this question in so I went with General Discussion. As per my usual etiquette, if anyone can help me reach a solution I will update my post with a clear guideline on how to fix the problem so that future users won't have to ask the same question.

Thanks

Hello SevenForums, I am having a particularly annoying problem with my favorites shortcuts in my navigation pane. I have no idea what I actually did but I know I accidentally altered the "Links" file in C:/(Users)/(MyUser)/Links. Ever since then my "Favorites" shortcuts in the navigation pane are completely empty. I cannot add new links either.

I have tried everything from the simple "restore favorite links" option to manually editing the registry value to be sure in included the "IsShortcut" entry. I have tried the techniques from several different threads on this very website. I have tried every single option from each one of these tutorials:

Favorites Empty in Navigation Pane - Fix
Favorites - Restore Default Favorite Links in Navigation Pane
User Folders - Restore Default Location
Default File Type Associations - Restore

Nothing has fixed the problem.

In addition to this all the sections in the navigation pane that used to independent (IE - Libraries, Computer, Network, ETC) are all now contained under the "Desktop" category. This is a recent issue and not nearly as maddening as the favorites issue I described above.

So priority one for me is to fix the favorites links. If anyone can shed some light on the situation I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer:Windows Explorer Navigation Pane Problems

Hello brewersomething, and welcome to Seven Forums.

All of your default Favorites are there in the right pane when you have Favorites selected. It appears that you need to expand open Favorites in the navigation pane by clicking on the small white outlined triangle just to the left of Favorites.

It looks like you have your navigation pane set to "show all folders". Unchecking this option using the method in the tutorial below will have your navigation pane show in separate groups again.

Navigation Pane - Show All Folders

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Maybe this has been discussed before, but I'm noticing that the navigation pane in Windows Explorer doesn't automatically scroll left and right anymore in the latest builds. Nor is there a horizontal scroll bar on that pane, like there was on XP. So if you have folders that are nested more than four or five deep, the only way to see the deeper levels is to drag that pane wider.

This is happening in both 7048 and 7057. Are others seeing this? Is this a bug or are they changing the way horizontal scrolling works and it's just not finished?

Answer:Windows Explorer Navigation Pane Autoscroll

I couldn't say about the navigation pane as I always disable all the extra windows options for the explorer windows. As for the horizontal scroll - if I understand you correctly, that is still there but you have to scale the window horizontally until there is less than one tiles worth of space. Otherwise the icons just auto tile themselves.

I saw this:
This PC in Navigation Pane - Add or Remove in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Drives in Navigation Pane - Add or Remove in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

But that is just for the PC.

At work, I got the Quick access, Dropbox, OneDrive, This PC, and Network.

Co-Workers computer got all that, and a shortcut to his D Drive. (I didn't).

At home, I got same as my co-worker, with the D drive shortcut (and ignoring my 4 other hard drives)

These are not removable drives, these are regular fixed drives. (At work, C is SSD, D is a mechanical drive), at home, C/D are my SSD, the other 3 are mechanical drives), all plugged into the motherboard.

I know according to the tutorial above, it looks like I can add all my hard drives to the navigation pane, but is there a way to add only certain drives?

I want to change the order to: Computer, Library, Homegroup, Network.

In the navigation pane in Windows Explorer, there's a shortcut to the default "Downloads" folder.

How can I force this change via registry?

My problem is how the left window reacts when I select a folder.

If I have a long list of folders in the left window and I click on the small arrow to the left of a folder, it is supposed to show the list of sub-folders that are in the selected folder.

It does but here is my problem. Lets say the folder that I select is in the middle of the left window. When I click on the small arrow, Windows Explorer shifts the folder list down so that the selected folder is near the bottom of the window. Generally I can only see one of the sub-folders. And then I have to use the slider to move the selected folder up so I can see more than one sub-folder.

I wish it would leave the folder where it was and show as many sub-folders as possible underneath the selected folder. I hope this explanation makes sense.

Answer:The Navigation Pane on the left side of Windows Explorer

I tried it on my Computer and the on clicking the arrow it moves up as it should instead of going down. Please try out the following steps to correct the problem.

1. Restore the folder to default as follows and check if that helped:

a. Open windows explorer
b. Click on Organize
c. Select folder and search option from the list
d. Select General tab, and select “Restore Default”

2. Run an online scanner to check any malware or virus activity. The link that will help you to run a free scan on the computer is Windows Live OneCare

3. If the above steps do not help then run the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to fix the system file errors on the computer. To run SFC scan, follow the steps below:

a. Click Start ,
b. Click All Programs ,
c. Click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt ,
d. And then click Run as administrator.
e. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow or Continue.
f. At the prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Once the scan is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Please tell if this was of any use.

The only way I know of is to use third party software. Perhaps someone else will come up with a way to do it manually.

You can add a button to toggle the navigation pane on/off using:

WinAero: Explorer Toolbar Editor

(need to have network http.sendRefererHeader enabled for the download to work) - if you've disabled it previously.

Here's a simple question that probably doesn't have an easy answer.

The Navigation Pane on the left side of Windows Explorer has six major categories from top to bottom as follows: Favorites, SkyDrive, Home Group, This PC, Libraries and Network. When I open Windows Explorer, the cursor is positioned on the Library Category. I would prefer the default cursor position to be on Favorites. I assume that there is no easy way to make this change, at least without editing the Registry somewhere.

Answer:Windows Explorer Navigation Pane Cursor Position on Open

That's peculiar, my cursor doesn't default to the navigation pane.
When I'm showing Libraries in the navigation pane and open File Explorer from the taskbar, Libraries is highlighted. When I don't show Libraries, This PC is highlighted.
I guess you could pin Favorites to the Start Menu and launch it from there.
Just a thought.

I use windows explorer a lot and I always use the left side navigation pain/tree view. The problem I have, first started after I switched from XP to Vista. When I click on the little red triangle, the folder should open, revealing the folders within like a drop down menu does. The parent folder does reveal the contents, but it jumps all the way down to the bottom of the explorer window concealing the contents of the parent folder, then I have to scroll up to see the folders within. Win XP never does this. What is really irritating is that the problem is intermittent. 50% of the time it works fine, the other half, the parent folder drops down to the bottom concealing the folder contents. I have three desktops in my home, two with W732, one with WXP32 and a laptop with W764, all have the same issue except for the one with XP. At first I was thinking that it was a bug specific to Vista and since Win 7 was due to be released soon after Vista, I dealt with it until I upgraded to Win 7. Unfortunately, Win 7 32/64bit also continued to have the same problem. This was really becoming a pain in the (you know what). If anyone has had the same frustrating problem, and found a solution they would like to share, or if someone has some input, it would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Tree View/Navigation Pane problem

I saw that too. It's a bug in Windows explorer. Researching a little on how to fix it, found that it has been reported to MS numerous times and they do NOT plan to fix it.

The only workaround I know of is installing a program called "Classic shell" (Welcome to Classic Shell). It adds a lot of options in Windows Explorer to customize and make it similar to WinXP, and even has a complete replacement for the start menu to look like previous versions.
The important part is, it includes an option to fix that bug among its customization options. I'm using it and so far it never annoyed me with that bug anymore.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here. I just got a Dell XPS 8300 with Windows Professional 64-bit. So far, most everything seems to be working normally. However, in Windows Explorer (which I use a lot), the left-side Navigation Pane is getting all screwed up visually when I scroll.

As an aside, I would really like to turn off smooth scrolling in Windows Explorer, but can't figure out how to do it. I have "smooth-scroll list boxes" unchecked, but it doesn't seem to help. I can get TweakUI for XP to run in compatibility mode either (someone on another forum was able to use that to disable smooth scrolling). I wonder if the animated smooth scrolling is causing the problem.

Different types of scrolling cause different degrees of the problem, but it happens nearly all the time. Hitting F5 will clean up the screen, but I would rather figure out what's causing the screen repaint problems.

I've attached a screenshot of what's happening.

I've done many searches (on this forum and other places) and not seen much, if any, people talking about this.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

Greetings,

First of all, I'm a complete noob at customizing, so please bear with me.

I've been searching for a way to change the Windows Explorer navigation (folder) pane background colour, the panel that (by default) can be found on the left and shows things like Favourites, Libraries etc. The default colour is white, and lately it has started to hurt my eyes more and faster than it did before. That's why I would like to change it to grey.
I've 'already' managed to do this for the reading pane by editing the shellstyle.dll file (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\Shell\NormalColor), but I cannot find any information on how to do this for the navigation pane. That is, I found some topics but most of the time the answers point towards downloading/buying a program that can do it, or needing to send some files to a helpful person who can change it him/herself, and by doing so probably avoid a lot of explaining, which of course I can understand. However, I would like to do this myself so that in the future I'll no longer have to rely on someone else to change that colour. Furthermore, I'm not interested in any other scheme than the standard Aero (yet...) so I would like to do this without downloading/buying any program (which I'll most likely never use again after I changed that one colour - but you never know, of course).

So, where can I find the code for the background colour? Can it be found in the shellstyle.dll file as well? Do I need to look somewhere else? It doesn... Read more

In Windows Explorer in the Desktop mode, there is a navigation pane on the left hand side. At the top, there is a spot for your favorite folders, so you can navigate directly to them easily. Below that are other sections, like "Homegroup" and "This PC." Whenever you open Windows Explorer, it automatically focuses on This PC in the navigation pane by default. Hello everyone,

My fiance just got her first Windows 10 laptop recently, and the behaviour of Explorer is driving her nuts. The navigation pane on the left will not scroll horizontally (neither with a horizontal scrollbar nor auto-scrolling as it did in previous versions of Windows), or at least we can't find the right option to enable either:

This is pretty unusable as it is, so I'm hoping that someone can suggest something. She will switch to an alternate file manager (we've seen recommendations for Classic Shell and xplorer2) if necessary, but would prefer to stick with the Windows 10 file explorer if possible.

Thanks to everyone!

Welcome to TenForums @linuxgarou

One suggestion would be to hover the mouse over the dividing line between the navigation pane and the list of files (it's the right-hand edge of the navigation pane's vertical scroll bar). When the pointer becomes a double-headed arrow you can click-and-drag to make the navigation pane wider.

I have mine set to about twice the width of the one in your screenshot.

Edit: and so apparently does Ztrucker in the following post.

What my plan is, is to remove Desktop from the Navigation Pane maybe using a Registry Hack but I think if it did, it would remove the others too since they expand from Desktop. I never use Desktop from Navigation Pane and just find it to be a nuisance to always have it collapsed and just remove it instead. Is there any method of doing this please?

Example below:

I have already removed Favourites and if I can get Desktop to be removed I will remove the Homegroup and Network from that too using Brink's already made Tutorials.

Answer:Remove Desktop from Explorer Navigation Pane.

Goto Folder options and in the Navigation pane untick Show all folders.

When I open Windows Explorer, on the left side navigation pane I have:

Favorites

Libraries

Homegroup

Computer

Network
Since I navigate to other drives much more often than I use Libraries, I'd like to put Computer at the top. However attempts to drag & drop to change positions produce no joy.

Is there a way I can remove then restore to change the order? Or maybe edit the Registry to shift the order? To me Homegroup should be way at the bottom and Computer should be at the top.

Anyone know the secret?

Answer:Explorer Navigation Pane Item Order?

I'm pretty sure, you can't change that order.
You can hide some items though.
The easiest way would be to use 3rd party tool, such as this one: http://www.door2windows.com/windows-7-navigation-pane-customizer-show-hide-rename-items-in-windows-explorer-navigation-pane/

Explorer Navigation Pane hangs from time to time. A restart fixes the problem. I ran scannow and Windows reported "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." This just developed recently and wondered if it was indicative of a coming meltdown and what other diagnostic tools I can use to look for problems in the OS. I think my details will be published automatically as I'm registered here.

There are several articles on how to remove existing features/groups from the Windows Explorer navigation pane. Is it possible to add a new folder or shortcut to the navigation pane either by editing the registry to create a new navigation pane entry or to change what a current feature, say favorites, actually points to (in this case C:\Users\user-name\Links)?

Hi guys. The screenshot below shows that I've gotten rid of the letters for all the drives, partitions, but in the Libraries menu each item is followed by the drive letter where it is installed. Is there a way to get rid of that? This only happened after I removed the default links in the Libraries that pointed to My Music and such...

Thanks.

Hi there

Recently I've been experiencing a weird problem with Windows 10. Right clicking any folders on the pane on the left - the one with folders, libraries etc. causes explorer to freeze and then crash.

I can right click on files and folders in the main explorer window. This problem only occurs when I try to right click on something in the navigation pane.

What could cause this?

Answer:Explorer crashing when right clicking folders on Navigation Pane

Any new folders added ? Guess can be a shell extension that gets put into the context menu when you right click.
Some have used this free program to disable non microsoft shell extensions. Have you recently added any new software since this occurred? http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

In Vista, the Favorites in the left-hand navigation pane of explorer is a separate menu that always remains at the top left, even when you scroll the other items in the list. In Windows 7 when you scroll through items on the left, the Favorites section scrolls up and out of view. I want my Favorites to be "pinned" or "locked" at the top of the navigation pane as they can be in Vista. Is this possible in Windows 7?

Is there a way to increase the size of the drive and/or folder icons in the navigation pane of Windows Explorer? It's easy to change the icon size in the folder pane or on the desktop, but these changes don't seem to affect the icons in the navigation pane of Explorer.

I'm running Windows7 x64 Home Premium. I have tried both Windows 7 Basic and Windows Classic themes and neither seems to allow this customization.

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate dual booting with Windows 8 Consumer Preview on a Dell XPS 410. When I bring up Windows Explorer on the Desktop app, I would like to add several folders to the "Favorites" section of the navigation pane on the left side of the window, as I have done in Windows 7. However, I don't seem to be able to do it. I have tried dragging the folder in the right pane onto the Favorites link, as I do in Windows 7, but nothing happens; the folder is not added to the list (which, by the way, is empty.) I have also tried navigating to the folder I want to add to Favorites and then right clicking the Favorites link and selecting the option from the context menu of "add current location to favorites", but again nothing happens.

On the off chance that it might be a corrupted system file, I just finished doing a System File Checker with the SCANNOW option, but no problem was detected by SFC.

I wonder if this is a bug in the Consumer Preview? Has anybody else encountered this problem? I also would like suggestions for what else to try to correct the problem, if it seems to be a problem with my system but nobody else's...

After installing Dropbox, I notice that there's now a custom link to the Dropbox folder in my File Explorer > Navigation Pane > Desktop list (see screenshot below).

Does anyone know how I can add such (sym?)links to other directories on the computer?

Specifically looking for ways to add to list in the "Desktop" section of Navigation Pane... not the "Quick access" list.

My thinking is... I'd like to consolidate shortcuts to my custom cloud storage folders. Right now there's OneDrive (built in to W10) and Dropbox, and I'd like to add similar links for my Google Drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, etc. directories. Trying to have them all appear together under "Desktop", rather than split between Desktop and Quick Access.

So I have an issue with my Windows 7 Navigation Pane only for save as or open in Word, Excel, and Firefox. My Windows Explorer Navigation Pane is functioning just fine and folders are displayed on the left but if I want to save or open something I am receiving the following screens: (I have included a save page as firefox SS, Word Open SS and Save As Open SS). The kicker is I can't enter what to save the file as in word and it is a rather strange issue. I have checked the registry and am unsure about where this is located and have googled everywhere with no luck. Any help is GREATLY appreciated in resolving this issue.

Sorry that the 3rd SS is cropped, did that accidentally. It basically looks just like the Open SS without the text box. Clicking on the Tools area and the Show Folders area (on save as) does absolutely nothing.

By navigation pane do you mean the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen?
My initial thought would be that the graphics card in the laptop is not sufficient to properly display this portion of your desktop.
If possible could you send along a screen shot of exactly what you mean along with basic system specifications such as the graphics chip), processor and the amount of memory (RAM)?

Hi
I have configured my new domain name email address in the Windows Mail internet 'Tools' > Accounts etc. The newly set up account 'name' does not present in the left windows navigation pane with 'Inbox' etc.like a couple of others I have!!
The unusual part about the configuration is ....I can send mail using the new email address to my main existing mail address which I have received but when I do a check send to the new address ...I don't receive the mail sent to the new address???
I know its in there some where due to sending and no bounce back ...spent quite a few hours trying everything to rectify this situation ...but to no avail!!!
The in coming mail server is POP3 110 - Outgoing mail (SMTP) 25 ...Same address mail.XXXXXX.com.au ...in both the incoming & outgoing as per host/provider instruction.
In the Tools > Accounts 'general' the rec & sync box is ticked ...understand that one!
All other boxes in 'servers' and 'advanced' with exception of the 'delivery' in 'advanced' (leave a copy... ) remain without ticks. Did try with ticking the boxes etc to see if I missed out on any format!! Still missing my new email address!!!
What is the process to setting up a new email account to appear in the left navigation email accounts pane?
Any assistance to adjust/correct the situation will be greatly appreciated. Ta!

Back in Win 7, "Computer" disappeared from my explorer navigation pane. Did several repair/installs, but all of them failed. Also tried the registry fix described in SevenForums, which also failed.

After upgrading to Windows 8, "Computer" is still missing from the navigation pane. Tried the registry fix described in EightForums (Computer - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane in Windows 8 Explorer), which failed in several attempts.

I realize a clean install of Win 8 is probably required to fix this, but what I'd really like to know is what has been lost in the system that prevents restoration of "Computer" in the navigation pane.

I'd be grateful for any assistance in this.

So i recently changed my theme, and attempted to change the explorerframe, but failed. NOw, i have this strange problem where neither the navigation pane or the navigtion bar show up on various occasions. this is usually when:

1.) I am uploading something to the internet such as to imgur.com or attatching something to an email
2.) When I am navigating to a file inside of a program

Here's what it looks like: http://i.imgur.com/FwWiT.png

Notice the difference between the regular explorer and the messed up one. I can't navigate backwards in the messed up one.

Here's a picture of the program i used to change it in the first place (Windows 7 theme manager):

Note: I already tried to fix it myself and managed to mess up my explorer and had to do a system restore. not pretty.

Answer:Navigation Pane and Navigation Bar not showing up!

The Windows Theme Installer is most likely responsible for corrupting Explorer so I would get rid of it. It's isn't wise to install any third-party utilities which modify Windows' system files, at least not unless you have a complete system backup strategy in place such as a disk image.

System Restore cannot be relied on to get you out trouble because old restore points are automatically deleted when the maximum disk space assigned to SR is reached. So a more permanent system backup method is required, especially in cases where corruption is so bad that Windows won't even start.

My username does not appear as a collapsable folder in any forms of the navigation pane UNLESS I pin it to Quick Access, select it from there, then file explorer will account for its mistake and shows the collapsable list. - user's home folder
- computer
- network

How can I make the user folder disappear?

Thanks!

Help!

My son has used Windows 7 customisation tool UX Style Core (Beta) to customise our PC. Whatever he did has changed the background colour of the Explorer Navigation Pane to black, making it unreadable. I can't correct it. Does anyone have any idea what to do to fix?

Answer:Navigation Pane Corrupted - need fix

Hello Richard,

If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to undo it.

Good morning and Happy New Year! You might want to put this in the Insider thread for 17063, since this thread is General Performance and it may get lost here.

Something that has been bugging the hell out of me, since Vista, is that the old XP file explorer was replaced with the new Libraries opening window. That's fine, but why the hell does Computer have to be all the way to the bottom.

Ya if I was a novice user I might be inclined to use those folders more frequently, but as an IT guru, this is nuts. If I download, move, or copy anything to an external hard drive, USB, or DVD, I always have scroll down the Navigation Pane. This is such a little thing that it's almost stupid that you can't slide these categories up and down. This way users can set their most used categories to the top. If you can move columns back and forth, it makes no sense that you cant do it for the nav pane.

I know I can make a shortcut pointing the file location to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} will allow me to create the Computer shortcut which can be use to pin to the taskbar. I've seen 3rd party software bring back the old XP explorer nav pane and I've also seen one that either adds or hides the Navigation Pane items.

It really is silly not to add something like this that is so simple to do for Microsoft. But does anyone know if there's any registry entry I can use, or some 3rd party software that does this for Windows 8?

Answer:Navigation Pane Order

Hi Bad,

Welcome to the "Eight Forums." . . .

Try this; close all the folders above "Computer" then open "Computer" then close Explorer (file manger). Now reopen and everything should be the way you want it. Did this several times to see if any would change and it didn't. This worked for me, albeit it doesn't mean it is the answer you are looking for. . .Good Luck.

Hope to see you around the Eight Forums again an IT guru is always a big plus and the Eights.

I believe that's what it's called, in Windows Explorer there's a load of Shortcuts on the left, how can I edit them, I'd like to remove unneeded things as well.

Also can you modify the shortcuts in the download pane? It has I believe 5 shortcuts on the left which I'd like to customise. In Xp I just used TweakUI to do that, but I don't know anything about Windows 7.

Answer:How does one modify the Navigation Pane?

Make a screenshot of it. And show which ones you want to change.

Do you mean folder %userprofile%\links ?
