Aero peek on Windows 7/64Bit sometimes not working

Question: Aero peek on Windows 7/64Bit sometimes not working

Hello,

I have a peculiar problem with aero peek. It sometimes just decides not to work anymore, and only shows labels instead of a preview. This is only temporary, because when I switch between other windows, the aero peek is activated again. I actually reproduced this behavior by switching to this post, and writing for 1-2 minutes. Hovering now only produced labels/tooltips. By switching to another window, aero was "activated" again.

I have tried the "Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects", but Windows couldn't find any problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, up until recently everything was working fine but now Aero Peek has stopped working.
I'm running Windows 7, which is upto date with updates & fixes, on an HP Pavillion dv6 with 2 display adaptors; an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 and an Intel (R) HD Graphics. Both are reported as working ok by device manager.
If I right-click the task bar and select properties, Aero Peek is ticked but greyed out.
Any ideas please?

Answer:Aero Peek not working in windows 7

Try the Aero troubleshooter.
Open Control Panel/Troubleshooting.
Under Appearance and Personalization, select the Display Aero desktop effects.
In the Troubleshooter dialog, click the Advanced link and place a check mark in the Apply Repairs Automatically option.
Click Next to run the troubleshooter.

Last week I had to do a factory reset due to incompatibility problems with my employer's software for remote working and win 8.1. I'm now back to win 8, have installed all of my software, disabled the edge swipes to stop the charm bar opening (it still does randomly), but now, my aero peek is not working. It is enabled, but grayed out, and not working. That feature was available in win 7 and it is the only thing I like about win 8 and 8.1. Is there a solution to get aero peek back?

Answer:Aero Peek Not Working in Windows 8

Have you put Windows 8.1 update back on yet ?

Right Click Start Button, select System, select Advanced System settings then settings, is Enable peek selected in Visual Effects.

Windows 8 , right click the very right hand bottom corner of your screen and click on "Peek at Desktop"
this should be checked.

Did you shut off charms bar from Taskbar Properties under Navigation Tab ? Some remote access software can cause issues with certain drivers will make Aero peek not work.

Answer:Aero peek not working correctly in my windows 7

Hello Chamz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are the thumbnail previews displaying when you hover over the taskbar icon of a opened window?

Do you see the opened windows on your desktop when you are not using aero peek?

As a test, double check to see if the opened windows may be offscreen some how. If they are, then that would be why you not see a preview of the window when you hover over the thumbnail preview of the opened taskbar icon.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

There's a case where aero peek doesn't work properly with windows like it should. If a window is completely hidden behind another window, using aero peek doesn't show the outline of the hidden window, just the outline of the window in front. Is this behavior intended? Am I just late in noticing it?

Also, somewhat related, but when I click the corner to show desktop and then click it again, the windows are brought up in the wrong order. Is there a way to fix this?

I just noticed that peek is not working on my HP Desktop. I used to be able to preview open applications and/or the desktop by hovering the cursor over the respective icon in the taskbar. I have tried all of the aero "fixes". It is check-marked in the profile dialog box but it is greyed out. I have gone into the registry and manually changed the windows peek value to zero. I haven't tried creating a new user profile yet which will be my next step. Does anyone know why or what could be causing this? The aero troubleshooter says everything is working properly. I'm stumped. We've had this computer for two years. We mainly use it for Internet browsing. I'm not a huge tech guy so I don't run new programs very often, ie. I can't think of anything "new" that I've done that may have caused this. My wife recently changed the background from a windows theme to a picture of her and our kids, but we've used pictures in the past for backgrounds without incident. I also changed the theme back to several standard aero themes with no change. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

Answer:Aero's Peek not working

Hi txsFireman and welcome to TSF,

Aero functions has a few limitations and some OS's that it isn't working with. For instance you need to be using any Windows 7 version but the Home Basic one.

More than that, has it ever worked before? Or has it never been working?
Does other Aero functions work, or is it just this one ?

Hi everyone,

I got a problem with the Aero Peek in Win7.
I don't know what happened, but suddenly I cannot peek my Safari. (see picture attached)

Any other programs can be peeked on.

And also, my Safari usually works along with UAC (i.e. no prompt when trying to open the web browser), but now, every time I try to use Safari, I will get prompted about UAC.

What do you all think the problem is?

Thanks, guys.

Answer:Aero Peek not working?

Hello,

Does Aero Peek work with your other programs?

As I understand, Safari is giving you the trouble.

Perhaps a System Restore will help.

Hope this helps,

Hello everyone!

I just installed Win7 a week ago and today a very weird thing happens - Aero Peek doesn't work all the time. I have no idea what the issue might be.

Before I forget - one thing I noticed is that when it does NOT work the taskbar icons seem like stuck in selected mode. What I mean is when you go over them they change their color - eg. like they are selected. But when you go away they become transparent once again - well when Aero Peek stops working mine don't go to transparent.

I've attached an image so you can see:

The bar on the left is how all bars should look like when they are not hoped over, yet as you can see the right bar has its "selected" color stuck.

After I make a few "show desktop" switches, and then switch between windows - it somehow gets fixed. Totally random.

I've tried closing programs, did the troubleshooter (said it's all OK), went into settings... basically everything I managed to find and thought of - I tried and nothing helped.

All other functions of Aero work.

Answer:Aero Peek not ALWAYS working

If it makes you feel any better, same happens to me. I haven't cared enough to troubleshoot though so sorry, no technical answers I can give.

Matter of fact, it's not working for me right now lol. I think it might depend on what software is actively running.

Edit: Actually, just figured this out. Yes it does. I had Windbg open, no work. Closed it, works now. So see what programs you can close to test.

hello, I have Ultimate Final from my MSDN subscription installed. First I installed it on a notebook (C2D, Nvidia 9600GS) and got to see Aero and it's features. Especially: Aero Peek. Now I have it also installed on my Desktop - a much more powerfull PC (3GHz 4 core, Nvidia 8800GT). Aero Performance Index is 6.9. I have choosen an aero theme and Aero is basically working (transparency, snapping etc.). What is not working is Peek :( That means: I hover the mouse over the "Show Desktop" on the taskbar but get no transparent windows. I hover the mouse over a window preview on the taskbar but do not get the "show this window and make all others transparent".  And what's weird: The setting in the Taskbar properties is checked but grayed out/readonly. Also, in the context menu on the "Show Desktop" Button in the taskbar, the "Preview Desktop" entry is checked but grayed out/readonly. In short: Desktop Preview (Peek) is "Enabled" but not working and I cannot change the setting. What could be the reason for this? Desktop machine is a dual screen setup. I disabled one screen but this made no difference. I switched between various themes but still no difference. I found a hint to a registry key, something in the line of "desktopPreviewDisabled" and it is set to "0" (=enabled as all the checkboxes indicate). I did set it to 1 and back to 0 - no difference. Help please

Every way I have tried to enable AeroPeek is not working. By not working, I mean that the check mark is greyed out. For example, right clicking the show desktop box in lower right corner shows the check box greyed out. The box is checked, but it still does not work.
Any ideas what causes this? BTW, I also tried regedit and the taskbar properties, all with no joy.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post.

Don't think any changes were made between the time they were working and the time they were not. I could be wrong, though.

If I am using a program and I move my mouse over to the taskbar and mouse over another program I have running the preview is displayed only briefly (on the order of milliseconds). If I click the taskbar first, then hover over an icon the preview is displayed correctly and if I mouse over the preview the window is brought to the front. However, if I click the preview the program is only sporadically brought to the front.

I also noticed that Alt-Tab is not working correctly either. When I hit alt-tab the selection menu is again only flashed on screen even while holding Alt.

Restarting computer doesn't fix it.

Already ran the troubleshooter and no problems were found.

Did a system restore to before the problems were there but that did not solve the issue either.

Checked performance settings and everything is enabled.

Like I said earlier I can't think of anything that was changed between the time when it was working and the time that it was not. I literally got up from my computer, sat down in another chair in my office, read a book for a couple hours, came back and it did not work.

Answer:Aero Peek and Alt-Tab Not Working Correctly

Hmm, I also noticed that tooltips are not working in any program either, unless I have clicked the taskbar then mouse over the tool tip in an open window.

They are doing the same thing. When I mouse over a tooltip it flashed briefly, not even enough time to read it.

Thought maybe it could be a mouse or keyboard problem, switched them both out, still no fix.

Man, I don't have a clue.

I had customized my Visual Effect settings in

Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools > Adjust Visual Effects

I discovered that after enabling all settings, Aero Peek worked. After toggling them all off and enabling them one by one, I discovered that only three are required for Aero Peek to work:Animate controls and elements inside windows
Enable desktop composition
Use visual styles on windows and buttons.
The one that I had turned off that was preventing it from working originally was the first one -- Animate controls and elements inside windows -- which was a little surprising. Also interesting was that "Enable transparent glass" does not have to be enabled.

I have searched all over the internet and in this forum for an answer. It seems that others have experienced the same problem, but there never seems to be an answer. I'm hoping someone can offer help, even it the answer is this is unsolvable don't waste your time

When my PC wakes from "Sleep" the Aero Peek preview windows don't work. I only get a text description of each open window, but not an actual preview of the window. The issue can be temporarily corrected via Reboot, but as soon as the system sleeps again the Aero Peek preview windows are gone again.

The problem most definitely occurs only after waking from sleep, not from Windows turning off the display. If I set my system to sleep in 3 minutes and I immediately awake, the Aero Peek doesn't work. If I set my system to never sleep, the Aero Peek keeps working.

After the system is awaked from sleep, when I right click on the Start button and select Properties for the Task Bar, the Aero Peek check box is still checked but the entire selection for Aero Peek is greyed out.

When I go into the Control Panel, Performance Information and Tools, the Aero Peek selections are not even showing in the menu list to select. However those selections are available when aero peek is working and the machine has not yet gone to sleep.

When I go into the Control Panel, Personalization, and select "Trouble Shoot Problems with transparency and other Aero effects," the system never detects a problem to correct... Read more

Answer:Aero Peek not working after waking from sleep

As you stated, this is an issue many have, and some find no answer. This seems to be a known issue on AMD systems, and the recommended fix is a BIOS update. It's also suggested to change the advanced power option for hibernate to never, so the PC doesn't go to sleep, then after a period, hibernate. If you've read all this and tried, I apologize, we don't know what you've tried until we suggest. Also, it's a good idea to fill in your system specs so we all know what we are working with. A Guy

hi all is anyone else experiencing this issue in chrome? the way most users got aero peek working was as follows

this is how we used to get the aero tabs working

1. Locate your Chrome or Chromium shortcut. There should be one on your desktop and one in your start menu ? either one will work.

2. Right Click the shortcut and choose properties.

3. Find the target box (it will be highlighted when the properties screen appears).

4. Left click at the end of the line (after chrome.exe).
Press space.

5. Add your command line switch. ?enable-aero-peek-tabs The result looks like this:

C:\Users\bry\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe ?enable-aero-peek-tabs
Instead of bry, it will be your username of course.

Hello.  I recently recieved a new Win 7 laptop for work and while most of the Aero features work on it, the Aero Peek functionality (Peek at desktop, full screen previews when clicking over open program icons) is not working.  After looking into this more, it seems as though the minimum requirements for Aero to fully work requires 128 of video memory.  This laptop has a Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card and currently the minimum is set to 64 MB.  So the two questions I have are:1) Is the integrated graphics card restricting this functionality due to the low minimum memory?  I have changed all the settings possible to try and enable Aero Peek (even reinstalled the video driver) but nothing has worked2) If the integrated graphics card is an issue, is there any way to set the minimum to 128 MB of video memory, either by a system/bios/driver change or possibly adding more memory?  System config:Dual core i5 2.6 Ghz processor4 GB RAMWin 7 Professional My home PC has a dedicated video card with 1 GB memory, 6 GB of total system memory and Aero Peek works as expected.  Any help would be appreciated.  This isn't a major issue but just trying to figure out what is causing this. Thanks. Brent

Screenshot should say it all. 3x27" monitor span, used to nice useful Aero Peek windows in Win 7 and 8.1, I can't see how this little thumbnail at 59x59px is of use to anyone.

The icons on the taskbar also now seem to be the middle cousin between Windows XP "Quick Launch" and Windows 7/8/8.1 taskbar icons.

Other than DPI scaling (which makes the rest of my screen that is perfectly sized look like garbage) has anyone delved into how to increase the size of these icons?

I don't have an exact number, but the icons in Windows 7 and 8/8.1 were at least 64x64. I have them measured in Windows 10; We have 48x48px "bounding boxes" with icons themselves at around 24x24px. I have good eyes, so maybe I'll get used to it, but I'd be willing to put some clever minds together and see if there is a way to increase these without blurry DPI scaling.

Maybe this was already addressed in testing, but I wasn't able to find any information on resizing these babies, and I sure would like to do so!

I have an Nvidia Card and on this site i found the instrcutions on how to get Windows 7 to have a true 60hz refresh rate:

A month later i noticed by accident the " PEEK AT DESKTOP" is greyed out on the desktop, but i still have an Aero theme and Aero attributes just the options for Aero are greyed out. I wonder if the custom display effects Aero, I have not tried it yet ( being im on travel ) but I was wonder what everyone else thought?

Another questions is about the Aero effects via RDP. Hovering over an in use tab on the taskabr when you are RDP into the desktop via LogMeIN create an issue where it does not show the picture of what is going on in the tab but shows just the name and link like in XP.

Billed as one of several new Aero Desktop Enhancements in Windows 7, Aero Peek is new to this operating system and is one of many technologies that Microsoft has implemented over the years to combat problems caused by excessive multitasking: If the users opens too many windows on the desktop, it's easy to lose track of those windows and the desktop, the latter of which can contain valuable shortcuts and other icons and, in Windows 7, any number of desktop gadgets.
Aero Peek offers two basic functions. First, it can be used to "peek" behind all of the open windows on your system so you can get a look at the desktop. Second, it can be used to find specific windows that are open but possibly obscured or hidden by other windows.

hi,

I have changed the Aero Peek speed from 400ms to 40ms, which made it quicker. But I have a problem, although hovering the mouse over active task bar icons to reveal thumbnails is quicker, the window of the program is slow to appear on the screen, if you know what I mean.

For example, if I had Firefox running(focused) and notepad open in the taskbar. If I hover over the notepad, a thumbnail will appear. But then about 1 second later the notepad windows will appear on the screen. I want this notepad window to appear quicker. How do I do this?

P.S. I am not talking about the 'show desktop' button on the bottom right of screen!

Thanks,

Question: Aero Peek

I been using Win7 latest pre-beta for about a week. Today I noticed that Aero Peek no longer works. By that I mean the little rectangle on the task bar won't let me see translucent boxes and the desktop. It was working when I first installed. Whe are the registery settings? The preview checkbox is checked and I am running Areo theme. If I click it it will minimize the windows just no mouse over peeking.

Answer:Aero Peek

Try to create a new account to see if it works on a fresh one, it worked for me when Aero Snap mysteriously stopped working, all I did then was copy all my files to the new account and deleted the first one. It's not the best fix I know but it was the quickest way at the time.

hm...I might be wrong on this but only certain things will be rendered in full time on Thumbnail Preview (I think that is what it is really called...). It could also depend on the app.

HiHope someone can help. My aero peek function on the taskbar of my W7HP B540 (Nvidia GT615) Ideacenter is not working. I point the mouse at the icon and it just flickers a bit and i get no page preview. I have gone through google and checked forums there for solutions but with no luck. I have upated the Nvidia driver to the Dec 13 issue from the Lenovo website and still no change. This really annoys me as  this function is probably the only reason I stayed with windows rather than going to a mac. Can anyone help. Idont even see a way of enabling the aero peek box (which is greyed out) in visual properties. I am am logged in as user administrator. One very odd issue is that when I replace the wireless mouse dongle into a new usb port and the driver reinsytalls the flickering stops for a while but then starts again. Does anyone have any ideas!??

My Aero just stopped working? I did the "Trouble Shooting" and this is what they said: (Which I am looking for what it actually means)

"To allow Aero effects to be displayed, close any programs that use mirror dirvers (a type of display driver), sucha as Windows Remote Assistance and Windows Live Mesh."

Does anyone know what they are talking about?

Thanks.

Answer:Aero Peek does not work?

My best guess is that those programs are interfering with Aero. Do you use any programs to facilitate remote assistance?

I got a new program, Auslogics Speedboost, and tweaked the computer so that Aero Peek would not work. Instead, it won't shut off. All the settings say "off", but if I go to Start> Properties>Taskbar, "Use Aero Peek ... " is grayed out. I used the registry change download here to turn it off, and even the grayed out box is unchecked now, but I STILL get the previews. HOW do I turn this off once and for all? And yes, I did reboot.

Answer:Aero Peek will not turn off

Hello Rosa,

It may be the way that Auslogics Speedboost set it that is the cause. Try turning it off in all of the options in that same tutorial to see if that may help.

Hi everyone
I wonder if it was possible to use aero peek to replace win+d (mouse over the right-low corner to minimize all windows, and then mouse over it to show them again). it would be just like replacing the click on "show desktop" with a mouse gesture. actually aero peek is working fine but i don't see the point in just showing the desktop, it's useless.
Thanks for your help

Answer:use aero peek to replace win+d

I don't know about replacing it but if you want to use Aero Peek, you can use the Windows Key + Space.

On the weekends though I use RDC to work from home. (Just have one monitor there). Aero peek works fine there as well. But when I come in to the office on Monday my aero peek does not work unless I reboot my system.

Is there an easier way to do this?

I am puzzled as to why my aero peek display (is this the little mini pictures of the open windows?) has diappeared when I hover my mouse over the taskbar. All I have now is the title of the page, rather than a miniature of what's open. I did have to update display drivers a couple of days ago after having some nasty display problems that led to BSOD. Could that have caused it? When I go to Task Bar -Properties I can't check "Use Aero Peek to preview desktop" - it's not a selectable option. Any ideas???

I have done everything I can to turn off Aero Peek. I'm referring to the thumbnail previews you see when you mouse over an open item on your bottom taskbar. For example, if I have Word open but am looking at my desktop, if I mouse over the "Microsoft Word" icon in the taskbar (quick launch taskbar) at the bottom of the screen, I see a small thumbnail image of the document I'm editing.

I hate that.

I just want to disable those little previews / thumbnails when my mouse moves into the lower taskbar and moves over one of the open programs.

I have disabled this in taskbar properties, but that isn't working.

I went into Regedit and set every item I could fine labeled "AeroPeek" to 0.

I'm still seeing those stupid thumbnails.

Any suggestions?

Answer:aero peek registry issue....

You'll have to figure out what program is making the change. SysInternals Process Monitor can do this - but the log file is so huge that it's unwieldy.

You may also be able to change the permissions on that registry key so that no one else can modify it. But that's cheating and may cause issues when the other program tries to change the key back.

A nice feature of IE8 is Aero Peek for each open tab. IOW hovering the mouse over the IE icon in the taskbar shows a thumbnail for each open tab.

Google Chrome doesn't have this, Firefox 3.5 does not, beta 3.6 does.

Another key feature is browser multiprocess architecture, which uses a separate process per tab. In most cases this isolates a browser crash to a single tab, vs taking down the entire browser. IE8 has this (IF UAC is on), Chrome does, Firefox does not.

I'd personally prefer tab per process, tab Aero Peek, and UAC off. Unfortunately that's not currently possible, at least with these three browsers on Win7. In case anyone's similarly interested, the below table summarizes these features:

Code:
Browser Tab AeroPeek Proc per tab

IE8 Yes Yes (if UAC on)

Chrome No Yes

Firefox Yes (beta) No

Answer:Summary: browser tab aero peek and process per tab

There is no tab aero peek in Firefox 3.6b4, I even turned it on in about:config, and when I have multiple tabs open, it doesn't show multiple previews.

So, has anyone tried to give a PowerPoint presentation where the "slide show" is being sent to a video projector (using extended desktop) while Aero Peek is activated? If you hover over a taskbar item that has a non-maximized window open, Aero Peek shows you that window with the desktop behind it and the full-screen window of the PowerPoint presentation on your second display goes away completely.

This is a HUGE issue for anyone who uses PowerPoint in this way. MS thought enough to add a "Presentation Mode" to Vista/Win7. Why can the user choose to disable Aero Peek when in Presentation mode??

I disabled Aero Peek and rebooted but thumbnails still show. Is there a way to get rid of them and just have a tooltip? Thanks. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Answer:Disabled Aero Peek but thumbs still show

Hello Walt,

Aero Peek is to just to see a quick peek at what's on your desktop by temporarily making all opened windows transparent while the pointer is on the button at the far right on the taskbar.

Aero Peek doesn't have anything to do with thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer. Please clarify if you do not mean these thumbnails. I'm not sure what tooltip you mean though.

The aero-peek functionality of the alt+tab app switcher (flip2d) is great once one gets used to it. Now I'd like it if the window preview were instantaneous instead of having an initial delay. I'm pretty sure this delay can be adjusted with a registry key but I haven't been able to find any documentation about it. So far, the aero-peek related registry entries that I've found are: \\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced ... * DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime * ThumbnailLivePreviewHoverTime * ExtendedUIHoverTime None of them affect the alt+tab delay. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello.

7 x64 goes in/out of Sleep Mode successfully, but Aero Peek's visual effects disable approx. 2 sec. after the system wakes. If I log out/on the effects are still disabled; I have to reboot to restablish.

Phenom 9850 x4 2.5 GHz
GeForce 9600 GS

Thank you for any help.

* I also have issue with right-clicking and Explorer crashing, however mine only occurs when I right-click on the Recycle Bin, and only after my computer has been running for awhile and I am recycling multiple files.

Answer:Aero Peek disabled after waking from Sleep Mode

Make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Download them right from the manufacturer's site.

Hi all,I have been noticing this for a while now, in all the builds we got our hands on. Though I am taking about Powerpoint 2007 here, the same symptoms apply for Excel 2007 too. Here goes...
I open one presentation in powerpoint (Powerpoint 2007 SP1). The file is a .ppt (a la pre 2007 ppt).Thumbnails work, and aero peek works - all is fine.I open another PPT, and lo behold - thumbnails do not show the content of both the presentations now, and aero peek does not work!I close one of the presentations - no go, still no content in thumbnail and no aero peek!Anyone else faced this - I encourage all to try this and post their experience. I have posted a screenshot here, for a better understanding...

This is a minor bug and I can correct it easily, but I'm curious if anyone has it.

When I click the thin button at the far right of the taskbar (what is that called anyway? it's the new 'show desktop' button I guess), and then click it again to restore all my windows... I cannot type in the current window. I guess even though it's the front-most window, it's no longer 'in focus'.

With firefox in particular it's annoying. In other apps, I click on the app's window and it's fine. But that doesn't work in firefox, I must click the firefox taskbar button to minimize it, then click it again to maximize it. Only then can I type.

Any fix?

Hello.

I've been trying to replace the back/forward buttons in explorer, both by using pre-made DLL's and/or apply the theming myself using ResHack and using same procedure that's described in a tutorial i found here.

The main problem with this is that every "Open file/folder" dialog will look like this no matter what software i try to open something with:

(Click on it for a closer look)

I get zero response when clicking the white area.

How to solve that ?

And also:
I find the frame for Aero Peek somewhat ugly, is there a way to make it look more like this?:

(This is an Aero Peek effect rip-off that's available in Display Fusion with a custom taskbar which runs on my 2ndary monitor)

P L E A S E help me before I lose my mind ...

As you can see above, when I right click any icon in Aero Peek, I have a separate section called Tasks. Open new tab, Open new window and so on. How do I disable this annoyance?
I am not wanting to disable Aero Peek. Just the "Tasks" section. I know its possible, it use to be that way before I had to reinstall Windows 7. Now that I've reinstalled afresh, something has changed, and I'll be damned if I can find how to get it back to how it was before, without the Tasks section.

Please help. I've searched and searched and all Im getting, no matter how I phrase the query is either enable aero peek in taskbar, or disable aero peek in taskbar ....ARGH!

Your help would be muchly appreciated.

Thx

Answer:Aero peek, right click, "tasks" how to disable?

Are you referring to the icons on the Task Bar? I have about ten on my Task Bar and some of them shows the "Task" when right clicked and some don't. I had never noticed it before. None of mine on the Desktop show the "Task". As far as I can tell, that is just a normal function of Win 7.

I apologize in advance if my thread is a duplicate of another thread. My problem is difficult to describe, so I could not find anything through the forum search or Google.

I'll begin by stating what I'm not looking for:
I'm not looking for how to increase the delay or the duration of the taskbar thumbnail previews.
I'm not looking for how to disable taskbar thumbnail previews.
Here is what I am looking for. If you open up two Windows Explorer windows, by default Windows groups them on the taskbar. If you want to switch between the two, you can click the Explorer ("folder") icon, and out will pop up your two Explorer windows, in miniature thumbnails.

What I dislike is that if you hover your mouse over one of the taskbar thumbnails, all other windows fade out except for the one you are hovering over. It is just like Aero Peek, except for taskbar thumbnails. But in my case, even if I don't hover over the thumbnails and click instead, the delay is too short so that I still get that annoying Aero Peek. That is, even if I know which window I want and click on it, I can't click fast enough to prevent everything else from fading out. It's really annoying, because I already know which window I want so there really isn't any point to fade out and then fade back in the same instant.

This happens with any window open on the taskbar. Is there any way to either
turn off Aero Peek for the taskbar thumbnails, or
increase the duration that you have to hover your mouse in order to... Read more

Answer:How Do I Disable Taskbar Thumbnail "Aero Peek"?

Hello Misfortune,

You can use METHOD TWO in the tutorial below to increase the ThumbnailLivePreviewHoverTime (ex: 100000 miliseconds) for how long it takes before it opens a Aero Peek live preview of the opened window when you hover the mouse pointer over the taskbar thumbnail preview.

Taskbar Thumbnail Live Preview - Change Delay Time

Hope this helps,
