Movie Library sort by date added?

Question: Movie Library sort by date added?

Hi all,

I've been a long time reader of these fourms but first time poster but am looking for any advice on the following.

I use the movie library function to view & play movies that are "ripped" and recorded from TV. I have now 300+ movies and add movies every week. The sort by date added only seems to work for recorded from tv movies but not "ripped" movies. I use My Movie Finder to get the rest of the metadata & folder.jpg i can't work out how date added works.

Anyone else sorted this issue other that using Media Browser/My Movies etc..

Thanks for the advice,

Steve..

Preferred Solution: Movie Library sort by date added?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Movie Library sort by date added?

For ease of use, take a look a an app developed by one of our own here @ sevenforums... YAMMM. It will automatically go out on the net and grab the needed meta data, images, etc. It is a great... GREAT time saver! My sort by date works fine!

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum faloony!

I created a folder on my desktop and add images of books I have sold almost daily. With Windows XP, the images would stay in order as I added them, but with Windows 7 they are always in order of the image name.
I have tried using the different sort by date options, but they are always sorted by the image name (which is a 5 digit number). How can I sort them by the date I add them to the folder?
Thanks,
Fritz

Answer:How to sort images by date added to a folder

Hello Fritz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would think that adding the column "Date last saved", then having the folder set to be sorted by it would do the trick.

Hope this helps,

I desperately need to sort my files downloaded using DownThemAll by the date the file was added to the directory. Date created could have been months or years in the past. Date saved could have been months or years in the past. Is there a way to sort the files by the date the file was added to the directory. I need to download to the same general directory in order to avoid dups.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Answer:Solved: Sort Files In Dirctory By Date Added

Howdee to you too.
If it's in Windows explorer, just change the view to detail and press the date column to sort the either ascending or descending,
In Windows 7 you can show more columns by right clicking the top bar just check there, there are quite a few date options.
Hope you can use this

Help! This should be easy but I can't get it to work.

I have a report that must group by Trip# and sort by ascending activity date all of the various activities that took place on multiple days of the trip.
Further, the trip with the earliest date must come first regardless of the Trip#.
I've accomplished getting the earliest starting date trip first and grouping its detail with a unique string made up of the earliest date of each trip formatted to YYYYMMDD+Trip#. This prints a trip total and works fine.

But the daily activity for the trip is out of date sequence.
Adding a Date field to the 'Sorting and Grouping' insists on breaking on and printing a sub-total for each of the trips activity dates.
Without the sorting & grouping by date the trip records are out of sequence even though the data source query is sorted ascending by activity date.

(see attachments that show the above)

The only solution I can think of is to create a sub-report sorted by activity date.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

All of my libraries are empty, and I have tried about 3 different ways to include a folder and every time I either get the error "The folder can't be included in library", or the include button is grayed out. Right-click on folder and then click include in______ Library, right-click library, and click add folder then choosing folder, and home>properties>add folder all give the error, can't be added, Then home>easy access the add button is grayed out, I have searched google several times and I always get the instructions to do it one of the above ways, which isn't working for me. Does anyone have any ideas. I did manage to get the download folder added to the download library, but that was the only one, the rest I go to properties>add folder, clicking the add button does nothing, visually you can see the button depress, but that's it nothing happens, then it's like doing that causes the pc to lag for about 15 seconds.

Answer:Folder can't be added to Library

I've always considered the Libraries to be shortcuts to the Folders and their files in C:\Users\LogonName.

Is there a programme/add on that will display the date down by the clock in the System Tray?As I get older I find myself increasingly unaware not just of the hour but even the day!

Answer:Date on Screen (No, not that sort of date!)

Try unlocking the toolbar and raise it a bit. The clock will now show the time, day and date. Lock the toolbar.

Hi,
I set up a lot of pc's and I've had this problem before with windows 8.1. I set up a single user account with Microsoft account (email and password). Then I want the pc to never ask for password, so I run userpasswords2 and uncheck so password is never asked for and we go right to desktop on startup. I'm setting up 2 laptops right now and 1 works fine.

On the second laptop, windows 10 created a quasi-user in addition to the user account. quasi has same name, same email, and it doesn't exist in control panels/user. It has a shorter version of the user name when I sign in, i.e., name is Rancho and it auto displays ranch as the user name on log in screen, so I know Windows did this somehow.

When I turn on laptop or restart, instead of going straight to desktop, it shows log in screen. it says it cannot connect (connection is wi-fi, no other pc's have connect problem), it says there is a problem and I have to sign in. it has 2 accounts in lower left corner (both have the same account name and email). if I click on the top, it is the ms account, it supplies the email and logs in with just a password. If I click on the ranch account, it puts ranch in the user name, logs in with same password.

I'm guessing I have to add administrator account #2, delete the messed up account #1 and recreate it, then delete #2. trying to avoid that fun if possible. and it didn't work on windows 8.1 when this happened.

any ideas on how this silliness happens? Is there a fix?

File history seemed to be working OK. But then I added a library in Windows Explorer with my Google Drive folder. I don't have much stuff in this folder, less than 1GB. The problem is that File History is not backing up this folder in its backups.

Do I have to delete the file history backup and redo it again every time I add a library? (I haven't tried it but it'd be a nuisance wouldn't it?).
Thanks!

But, I would suggest using the Standard version of Macrium Reflect to image your system.

Hello,

Does anyone know how to sort the links in a library by name, so the A's come first, or if a folder name starts with, say "!" or "_", then it goes before the A's. I never really paid attention to this but it isn't happening because I added one starting with "A" I want to come first anyway, and it is placed at the end. It seems a simple option but I haven't found a mention on forums.

Thanks,
Nick

is there a way to sort 'like a library' in windows explorer (omit 'The ' and 'A ' from file names)? i.e.
i have the files (sorted as windows would normally do with sort by name):

A File 4.ext
A File 2.ext
File 3.ext
File 7.ext
The File 1.ext
The File 5.ext
The File 6.ext
The File 8.ext
The File 9.ext
...

and i want:

The File 1.ext
A File 2.ext
File 3.ext
A File 4.ext
The File 5.ext
The File 6.ext
File 7.ext
The File 8.ext
The File 9.ext

i do not want to rename my files like this:

File 1, The.ext
File 2, A.ext
File 3.ext
File 4, A.ext
File 5, The.ext
File 6, The.ext
File 7.ext
File 8, The.ext
File 9, The.ext

or this:

File 1.ext
File 2.ext
File 3.ext
File 4.ext
File 5.ext
File 6.ext
File 7.ext
File 8.ext
File 9.ext

please note the file name formats are actually 'The Film.avi' or 'The TV Show SXXEYY.mp4' (where XX is the Series andY Y is the Epesode as a double digit numbers)

if there is anyway to do this or a 3rd party program that will work with network sharing (my files are not on the local machine but a file server running windows 7)

Answer:sort 'like a library' in windows explorer (omit 'The ' and 'A ')

May I ask you why are you trying to avoid renaming them? Are you seeding them?

There are good free batch renaming software (like Rename Master) out there.

I have a mild annoyance in Windows Explorer (on XP) that I have been searching all around to try to find a solution for. It has to do with automatic sorting. Basically, new or modified files to a folder are not automatically sorted until the folder is refreshed.

Say I have all my files sorted by "Date Modified," from top to bottom, and then I open and edit, say, the third file. When I save the file, the "Date Modified" will instantly update. The problem, though, is that the file, despite it now being the most recently modified file, will still remain in the #3 spot until I refresh the list or change the sort order.

The same thing happens if, say, I sort files alphabetically, and then copy a file "Aardvark.txt" to the folder. It won't appear in its rightful place until the folder is refreshed.

I noticed that this problem seems to be fixed in both Vista and Windows 7, but I'm hoping there is a way to address it. I would love to be able to trust the folder's sorting without having to refresh it each time to make sure I have the updated sort order.

Anybody encounter this?

I have found that if you arrange the order of the libraries (in my case 3 each for documents, pictures, video, music) via move up/down (right-click when pulling up LOCATIONS link), it changes the way it shows in the left-hand library "tree" > view. But, it seems that you need to sort by library name to get my D library to show at the TOP.

Additionally, I'm confused by the default save location. If I do a "save as" of a pic on a webpage, when the save applet/file opens, it defaults to C:\Users\Jim and NOT the D:\Libraries\Pictures as has been set by me as default.

As well, some times, the pulldown for save file TYPE has ONLY .bmp shown. I can't save a jpg. I haven't figured out the pattern as to why this occurs, but I usually have to close all IE and Windows Explorer windows and retry to get .jpg as an option.

Answer:Library - display order, arrange/sort by, default save location

Can anyone figure out why my default save location is not honored (in this example for PICTURES). Whenever the "save" applet comes up, it's pointing to C:\users\Jim\iTunes\album?cache (can't recall last node name). It never did this before.

I need something that will read this column and output it as yyyy.mm.dd into a separate filed so Excel will sort it properly in chronological sequence.

At present the "date" sort only sorts on the first 2 numerics, ie dd and sorts then from 1-31, irrespective of the balance of the date field.

Question: Sort date daily

I have a big problem with this daily report since I have to do it manually every single day. Is there a way to automated this in macro or vlookup . Help Name Room Status From DateWayne,G 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10Chin, P 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10King, L 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10Cohen, A 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/101. So all patients admit for 1/23/10 will be print out of 1/23/10 Date Name Status1/23/10 King, L. Insurance1/23/10 Wayne, G. Medicare

Answer:Sort date daily

Hi,Here is a macro that should do what you want.Your source data is in a worksheet named "Source"Your report is created in a worksheet named "Report"If these are not the names used, either change the names of the worksheets or change them in these lines in the macro: 'change name of source worksheet here
strSrcWS = "Source"
'change name of report worksheet here
strRptWS = "Report"The source data is in these columns, starting at row 2 A B C D E
1 Name Room Status From Date
2 Wayne, Greg 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10
3 Chin, Peter 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10
4 King, Larry 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10
5 Cohen, Alex 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/10
Due to the way that the macro finds the end of the source data, all cells in column A below the last data must be empty. On the report page the date will be entered in cell C1 as follows: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name StatusAdd the other headings, as shown. When the macro is run, this is the result: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name Status
3 1/23/10 Wayne, Greg Medicare
4 1/23/10 King, Larry Insurance
The macro is triggered by either changing the date in cell C1 on the report page, or to re-run for the same date, select C2, click in the formula bar and click the adjacent check mark.As changes made by Macros cannot be undone with the Undo button, test this macro on a copy of your data. Always make a backup of your Workbook before running this macro. This code has only been tested on sample data, and it has not been tested ... Read more

hi,
when i download photos from my canon camera, they are all put in a folder that is named according to the DOWNLOAD DATE. i'd like the photos to go into folders that are named according to the SHOOTING DATES. this was the behavior of windows in the past and for some reason it changed.
can you tell me how to change this and to get the photos sorted according to the date they were taken?

can you also tell me how to number the photos continuously, instead of numbering from 1 on each new date? i'd like the photos from day one numbered 1 to 14, from day two 15 to 23, and so on.

Hi tamirhoresh

I use the following free application to organize my images as part of my workflow.

cam2pc - Image Viewer and fully featured Digital Imaging software to Download, Organize, Modify and Share your photos

It has a down loader that should work with your camera and will allow much finer control than any of the manufacturers offerings. It will even re-name your existing structure to what you decide to go with

It can actually create folders and image filenames from the files own internal MetaData.

There is a Paid version but have found that the freeware does everything I need.

It is compatible with MS photo programs but actually contains a good set of display options so may even replace them

I have input dates into my database table in the short date formula for example: 01/07/2005. Can anyone tell me how to sort these dates in a chronological order? If i try to sort them as they are they just appear in ascending order using the first 2 numbers for example using the above date layout '01'. I have several different years on the database. How can the years and dates be sorted chronologically???Help much appreciated thankyou!!!

Answer:Access 2000 'date sort'

it sounds like you are recording the dates as text. This is why they are being sorted 01/01, 01/02 etc.The easiest solution would be to see if you can convert the field in the table to a date field. If this is not possibel then you could try either the format, or convert function in the query to convert the field to a date, then sort on that.If you need any help on the convert or format function please post back here.

One option is to create a Library with your preference. Don't know why, but Libraries are sorted folders first and then by date (if you select by date of course..)

Creating Library is simple... First make sure Libraries are shown (in file explorer in left tree right click on empty space and select New. Then you add folders.

Right click the folder, select properties, select the customize tab (or press Alt-V, "Customize this folder" from inside the folder) and make sure "All items" is selected from the first drop down.

I wish Vista would always just default to the All items view. It selects a bad default way too often.

I am using a program that OCR's a page and then creates a folder for it inside an output folder...
Goes like this:
Input folder -> OCR program -> Output folder -> [Folder just for that document]

I keep the output folder open so that i can see the new folders being created for the OCR records, which i can then drag additional files to that records folder.
Since im dealing with thousands of folders im depending on vista to sort by date modified so that the newest one shows up on top.... But im running into a problem

I've done about 700 records now (700 folders have been created) and for some reason the date modified stopped working. Now the new folder is showing up at the end instead of the beginning. If i hit F5 to refresh the window it move to the top where it should be.... but im going through thousands of records and hitting F5 for every record consumes time and makes room for error.

Why did vista stop sorting by date modified? I didnt change anything, all of the sudden it just stopped being consistent. I can restart the computer and sometimes it will start working properly again for about 30 records, but its not guaranteee.

Please help me fix this, THANKS!

I understand that by right clicking on the sorting bar you can choose and add dozens of ways to sort your files. How do I apply one (Date Accessed) not just for one folder, but for on the folders on my drive?

Answer:How to sort by Date Accessed in all folders?

I'm assuming this is what you are after.
1. Click the Start Menu Orb and then Search for cmd. Once that comes up Right-Click cmd.exe and SelectRun as administrator.
2. The UAC prompt will appear… Click Yes!
3. Now in the cmd prompt, Type in “ fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 0 “ and Press Enter.
4. Restart your PC for changes to take affect.

After restart
1. Switch the Window view to Details.
2. Right-Click category bar and Click More…
3. On the next window Scroll down and Check the box for Date Accessed and then Press OK.
That’s it! Now when you do Windows Searches it will pull up and show the Date accessed category.

Hope this helps Dan

Whenever I open a folder and want to "sort by date (modified)", Windows 7 sorts by descending order. I have to click again to get ascending order (in XP this was not a problem). Is there a registry hack or some other way of getting Windows 7 to sort by (modified) date in ascending order when you click on "sort by date"? Various searches have only come up with bogus or obvious answers (e.g., click again to change order, "group by" (which doesn't maintain setting when reset to "sort by date"), etc.). Thanks for any "real" help.

Answer:sort by date (modified) ascending

Ive got vista x64 and Im tryin to figure out how to sort a folder by the date I DLed the contents. In Xp it was np but I cant seem to get it work in vista. Ive tried Date Received Date Modified Date Taken... everything with Date in the sort type and none of em work they either dont change at all or just end up in abc order. What Im goin for is sorting the contents exactly by date and time of how they ended up in the folder. Any ideas? Also before I forget about it. Ive got a folder on an HDD that wasnt modified when I installed vista I installed vista on a completely new HDD. Now in windows explorer in vista that folder thats on a completely separate drive is missing roughly 100 files completely randomly. Not any specific order I can find to whats missing (date, abc, etc) theyre just not showin up. The file size of the folder doesnt indicate theyve been deleted they just arent showin up.

Hello. If I select Date from the "Arranged By" field in Outlook 2007, it sorts by the date each message was received. I know that I can sort by the sent date by clicking on "Custom", then under Sort selecting Sent. This is a pain to go through all of this, however, since Outlook reverts back to the received date every time I sort by something else or search for an email, etc. I'd like to know if there is a way I can change Outlook so the default date sort is the sent date instead of the received date. I'm fine with editing the registry and what-not if need be.

Thanks in advance,

It seems like it's always what would seem like the easiest things always turn out to be the the hardest to actually accomplish.

I'm running Netscape 7.1 and right now my email is sorting my various email folders in ascending order by date. I know that by clicking on the date header you can change that sorting to descending order. The problem is that I can't seem to get that change to "save". Everytime I open the email interface the sort order is back to ascending order. What do I need to do to make that change to descending order the default - and to make it stick.

We have a list of ladies and the dates their babies are due. There's another column in the list with a date that they left our care - maybe moved away or transferred to another office. I'd like to sort the list by due date, unless they have left our care - and then have those ladies at the end of the list. So if the transfer date is blank, sort by due date, with all those transferred at the end.

Advice please? Thanks!

The same feature exists in Vista and Win7. Just be sure to right-click on the headers at the top of ecah olumn to pick the headings you want (be sure to add Modified Date), drag the new header(s) you added to the right position you'd like them -then click on any of them to sort by that column header.

On my external hard drive, I have a ton of photos from different cameras that retain the weird file-naming scheme that the camera implements so the order is weird and out of whack. I've been wanting to organize these photos and thought the best way to do it would be to sort it by date; however, when I click the sort-by date tab, it takes FOREVER to sort it.

It's weird because this seems to only happen with certain folders and not others within the same drive so I'm pretty baffled as to why this happens and how to fix it.

I tried to do a search on the forum to see if anyone else encountered a similar problem by searching the word "sort" but I came up empty. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Problems with Sort by Date in Windows Explorer

Well that was quick... of course I find the solution after I make a post.

I don't know if this solution is permanent but I hope it is. Basically, what I did was I optimized the folder for "General Files" after going to the folder's Properties and clicking the "Customize" tab.

(Running Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1)
I'm a professional photographer and have recently begun shooting with two cameras simultaneously at events. They use different file names to avoid duplicate names/confusion, i.e. IMG_175000 and XMG_175000. Often times I'll take a photo with one camera and then take a photo immediately after it with the other camera and I'd like both of these images to be organized in the same subfolder and shown sequentially, but by default Windows Explorer lists all the "XMG_######" photos at the end and the IMG_###### photos at the beginning. I can manually sort each individual folder by going to "Sort by - Date" or even better, selecting "Sort by - More... and putting a check mark next to "Date Taken" so that it shows up in the Sort options (which it doesn't automatically) and then sorting by Date Taken, but since I'm dealing with hundreds of subfolders with hundreds of thousands of photo and video files I'd like a way to do this for all the files in these subfolders that isn't manual.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer automatically arrange every file (both image and movie files) inside the various subfolders inside one root folder by Date or Date Taken instead of automatically always sorting them by name?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Making files in subfolders sort by "Date" or "Date Taken" by default?

I use ThumbsPlus to organize my photos. It has an auto rename feature, so you could sort by date and then rename by year/month or whatever, but it's notsuper automated - you would basically need to rename each months worth of files, which may or may not be a lot of work.

It's not super cheap if all you want to do is rename some files, but I think it has a free 30 day trial.

Hi
Apologies for the title - I tried to encompass my problem.

Basically, it's this:

I have a drive that I need to copy all the data from and move to a larger drive (1TB DAS moved to a 6TB NAS device). I need to preserve the folder's date created and (if possible) modified attributes, as the data being copied is a WIP folder for a big CGI
project, and it's important to be able to track and find specific info/folders via date created... essentially the job is ongoing for another 6/7 months.

So, normal copy/paste won't do... thanks to this forum :) I've used Xcopy and worked out how to migrate the data and keep the all the new/copy folder's date created and modified attributes in line with the original/source.

Meaning I can make a perfect copy with folder dates that match.

However (and this is where I am head scratching), as soon as any new data is added into the copy folder, it's attributes change... not only the folder's modified date (which I was expecting) but also the date created folder.

This is a problem as the folders will have new data added to them on an ongoing basis... but, as both modified and created dates change to the time the new file is added, it causes issues when finding specific nested folders via creation date.

Example: Copy folder (done today via Xcopy) shows creation and modified date as per the source of 11/12/2012. As soon as any file is added into that folder, it updates modified and creation to the time the file w... Read more

Answer:How to maintain Folder attributes (date created/modified) on a 'Copy' - when a new file is added

BTW - with the Xcopy, it was a 2 stage process. /s/e/k first then a copy over but using /d/t/e/k. Copying in the first pass and then overwriting the folders in the second pass (with the correct creation date).

Thanks for the Robocopy/mir tip... that will work for bulk copying the data... sadly, when it's on the NAS, any additions to the folder change the creation date. Pretty sure it's the NAS file system (or lack of compatibility).

Going to test some spurious data using some other DAS drives - as I think it's the NAS (as per Lacie's reply).

Now I need to find a NAS that'll handle NTFS.

But at least I feel I'm getting somewhere now - thanks :)

Hoping to get some help on this question please. I have reviewed the forum and found a similar post, but the sample data is more predictable than mine and the Macro posted doesn't work on my data. See post "Excel Macro to Move data in Rows to column" 28-Aug-2008, 05:47 AM".

On my data, I would like to be able to take the yellow row, and move the data up to the previous row starting in column "R". The rows I would like on the same line, all begin with a date. I don't know how to make a looping Macro that will identify the "date lines", and take the "second date line", and move it to the "first date line's" row.

Any help would be appreciated.
I have attached some sample data. (I hope that's okay?!)

Thank you!!!!
Christine

PS - The range on data varies.

Answer:Solved: Excel Macro to sort data by date, then move to new cell

Christine,

this macro below works well with the sample data.
Code:
Sub sorting()
Dim Rng As Range, c As Range, i As Long
Set Rng = Range("A:A").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants, xlNumbers)
For Each c In Rng
i = (i + 1) Mod 2
If i = 0 Then
With c.Resize(, 15)
.Copy .Offset(-1, 17)
.ClearContents
End With
End If
Next
End Sub

How it works:
1. Takes all those cells in column A of the active sheet that contain numbers. (Dates are actually numbers, only formatted to look like dates.)
2. In a loop, it takes every second cell of the set of cells selected in Step #1.
3. Takes a 15 cells wide region starting with the cell selected in Step #2, and copies it to the region starting with the cell positioned one row up and 17 columns to the right.
4. Deletes the content of the original 15 cells wide region.

Caution:
1. If there are any numbers in column A besides dates, then the algorithm is wrong and the macro will fail.
2. If the dataset in the second date line is wider than 15 cells wide then the rest will remain in place. But the macro can be easily updated, just change the Resize line.
3. Don't run it twice on the same worksheet.
4. Always make a backup copy of your data before running the macro, because it is not Undo-able.

my mom has 6 years of photos on one of her 500GB HD's. She hates windows 7. Her latest complaint that I have not been able to figure out is folder sorting.

Mom has a folder called "camera dump" in the "my pictures" folder.
In the camera dump she has 6 years of folders containing photographs.

Currently windows 7 is sorting the left side screen like this:

1-18-2013
1-21-2014
2-05-2011
2-05-2012

The problem is mom wants them in proper chronological order.. In other words, all of 2011 in proper order Jan to Dec, and 2012 after that, and 2013 after that.

1-06-2011
2-29-2012
3-09-2013
5-28-2014
Can anyone tell me how to do that? Ive tried just about every sorting option I can find in windows 7.
I suggested to her that she use YEAR master folders, then put the months inside as sub folders.

Thanks.

I realize the title isn't very clear...hopefully I can elaborate.

I'm in the process of configuring my new win10 install the way I like things like I did with win7. Win 10 seems to make that a bit more difficult but I'm about where I want to be. I have several drives in my system one of which is where all of my data and media is stored. I pointed the win10 "known folders" music, pictures, video, and documents to the appropriate folders
on that drive so that all of the items appear when I open one of those folders.

My problem is that now those folders have now become "invisible" when I browse the drive with file explorer. Is this by design...I can't imagine it was done on purpose but if it was, is there any setting or registry hack that will allow the folders and files to be visible in "both places".

Or, am I just looking at this the wrong way...any help getting me to look at it the right way will be appreciated.

Answer:File and directories "disappear" when added to a known library

Hi, you shouldn't need to do anything with the registry to view folders.

I pointed the win10 "known folders" music, pictures, video, and documents to the appropriate folders

Could you confirm this means you did this?
If you can provide a couple of screenshots, that might help to understand what you've done and what you're seeing.

Coming from Win 7, especially if you upgraded rather than clean installed, you may find using the Classic Shell (free) start menu. This really works, whereas Win 10's doesn't if you have folders and subfolders in your start menu.

Hi,I've read through some other very similar posts and tried to make other solutions work to fit my problem however I've had no joy and it has been years since I really delved into formulae on excel.I work in a pool hall and am trying to create a spreadsheet to account for table usage. -What I am looking for is the current time (24h format) to be entered into column C when the user enters what table the customer has selected in column B (integer).-If possible I would also like to enter the finish time into another column (D) when a checkbox is ticked. This would allow the staff to work out rates without having to input times in a 24h format which I assume would confuse them plenty. The second aspect to the problem is not as important as I am sure I could patch something together to enter the time if I can figure out the first part of the problem.I am using excel 2002 (part of the office xp package)Any help would be awesome, regards,Joe

Answer:Adding date into cell when data is added to another cell

Have you considered using a commercially available "pool hall management" software package? I did a quick Google search and found a few products, one for under $400. These packages have features like waiting lists, table usage data, food order tracking, and even the ability to control the lights over the tables. As far as Excel goes, you will need a macro to add the time based on the input of a table number. Excel has a feature known as Event Macros which run when a specific event occurs. For the Start Time, you can use the Worksheet_Change event which will run whenever a change is made to the sheet. The first thing it will do is check to see in which Column the change was made and if it matches the specified conditions (1 cell changed in Column B) then it will proceed with the rest of the instructions - e.g. put the time in Column C.For the Finish Time, you can use the Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick event so that the user simply has to double click a cell in Column D to insert the time.Right click the sheet tab for the sheet you want this to happen in and choose View Code.Paste the following code into the pane that opens. When a value is entered in a cell in Column B, the corresponding cell in Column C will display the current time.Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Column = 2 And Target.Cells.Count = 1 Then
Range("C" & Target.Row) = Time
End If
End Sub
For the Finish Time, paste this code in the same pane. When the user double clicks a cell in Col... Read more

Hello there & Happy New Year.

I have encountered this particular inconvenience on the 2nd day of 2012 while i was transfering photos and files into my PC with Win7.

In my Win7 PC, all files/folders created or modified within Dec'2011 and earlier are now all grouped under as "A Long Time Ago". This happens when I changed the folder to be "Group by Date" or "Group by Date Modified" with a combo of "Sort by type". I tried sorting in different ways of view to see if I can get it back to what it should be. Then i realised even folder newly created on 25 Dec 2011 is also grouped as "A Long Time Ago" too. I am not sure if this is an intended feature.

The only helpful part is that i will still see the newer files in chronological order if I sort by date modified on top of group by date modified.

I have been using this setting for folder view even for Win XP. As for Win XP, i will get "Yesterday", "Last Week", "Last Month", "Last Year", "Two Years Ago" and ultimately the whole chunk of much older files under "A Long Time Ago". Such perfect chronological order.

I tried to google for a while and not much of returns to this issue I am having. Perhaps majority of people does not group their files/folders in such way. But for me, I like the way how it was displayed that I know i have edited/created/moved whichever files/folders last year, the previous month or ... Read more

The win 7 start menu download folder item on the right sorts by name. This is very annoying. I cannot find a download unless I know its name. If by date I just look up a recent download at top of list.

How do I change behavior so downloads in start menu (right column) sorts by date?

NB. I changed the folder properties in explorer so the download folder sorts by date. It does there no problem. But not in the start menu.

Answer:sort start menu download menu by date not name

What a worthless feature to sort by name when it is downloads. I am checking for a registry work around, but it is a slow bushiness for me.

I have discovered some disconcerting behavior in how excel 2010 sorts. I have information in a worksheet that gets added to everyday. Once a week that information gets copied in bulk and pasted into a new sheet in the workbook to get sorted. On a straight copy paste operation some of the information that is in columns bfore the sort column are changed from their original values. When I copy then paste special values and formatiing this does not occur.
Has anyone else observed this behavior and if so does anyone know a better fix?

Answer:Excel 2010 sort issue data in columns prior to sort column change

BF
Tried to replicate this in my Excel 2010 without success. Copied cells Sheet1/A1:A12 to Sheet2/C1:C12 with data in preceding columns A & B. On selecting 'Sort' for C1:C12 I get a window informing me there is data next to my selection and since it is not selected will not be sorted. There are then two options: Expand selection or Continue with current selection. Selecting second option sorts data normally.

Once you have setup your named groups in the Start Menu is there a way to sort them alphabetically? Also, can you sort each item with a group as well?

Thanks!

Hiya

The Picture It! Library and Digital Image Library do not display temporary files. By ignoring temporary files, the Library can remain clean and uncluttered. An issue has been identified where some software marks photos as temporary files when they are acquired from the camera. This patch enables the Library to view these temporary files.

The software currently known to mark new files as temporary is Canon Utilities ZoomBrowser version 4.1.0.46.

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP

Multimedia PC with Pentium 500 MHz or higher processor

I added documents on an external drive to Documents folder in the Start menu . It was fine but now when I try to open from Start menu I get an error message: Documents.library-ms is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected.
Can I fix this ?

Answer:Fix: Documents.library-ms is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted

You can safely delete the missing library. The problem is mapping the new documents shortcut to an external drive, especially if the external drive is not issued the same drive letter on reconnect.
To set a new shortcut from the start menu there is a quick registry tweak.
1. Open Registry Editor, type regedit from command line, and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
2. Change the value of the Default, Public, Profile Directory keys to the new location accordingly. ie. G:\Documents
3. Log off. From this point on, any new user logged in to this computer will have a new user profile that’s located in the new location.
Hope this helps.

So every time I change the view type of either my programs library or downloads library, they affect each other changing the other libraries view type as well. To further baffle me, when I browse other libraries and go back to either downloads or programs or when I exit and re-enter explorer they're both in extra large icons view. To note, besides my documents, music and hopefully programs libraries, I set every library to extra large icons.

my library folders are missing.
instead of folders it shows "Documents.library-ms" "Music.library-ms" etc. Delete & restore is not working.

Answer:Documents.library-ms, Music.library-ms - Delete & restore is not working

Try deleting these libraries from the explorer LHS pane itself, by right-clicking on them and then selecting Delete.
Then right click on Libraries, in the LHS pane and select Restore default libraries.
Hope it helps!

A year ago, I created a custom Library and have been using it successfully until the beginning of this week (11/7/2011).

The library's folder location is similar to the following:
C:\Users\USERNAME\FOLDERX

Now, when I open the Library, it shows a listing of all of the files found within all of the folders in that library; that is, imagine a book separated by chapters (folders), and now all of the pages are scattered (files) in one cardboard box.

On the top right of this Library window, I have the following "Arrange by" options:
-Date modified
-Tag
-Type
-Name
----
-Clear Changes

On the "working" libraries, such as 'Documents,' there is a "Arrange by Folder" option, which is what I am attempting to have the custom Library emulate.

I have deleted the custom Library and tried to reestablish it, but the same issue persists: I cannot sort the Library by folder, rendering it useless.

Is there anyway to have the "Arrange by Folder" option reappear?
Did I accidentally switch some setting, or is this due to a Windows Update?

Thank you.

Answer:Library Conundrum: 'Arrange By Folders' is Missing in Custom Library!

Did you create a new library with the same name or a different name? When you go to Libraries, and you right click and select properties on Documents, do the attributes match what you find when you right click and select properties on your new library?

Hi I have this assignment for school, I think I did everything except the step number 9 and 11, it seems I do something wrong or not sure about that. How to SORT THE DATASHEET in descending order and how to Sort YOUR TABLE in ascending order? Is there difference how to sort "your table" and "the datasheet".
Also in step 10) they are asking to close the datasheet view without saving changes, does it means I just right click on the table and "close it"? Sorry for my explanation, but it is difficult for me to explain this things and ask right questions. I attached the steps I have to do, I believe I did everything except the step 9) and 11)
I have Access 2013)

DRIVER ID AUTONUMBER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
FIRST NAME TEXT DRIVER'S FIRST NAME
LAST NAME TEXT DRIVER'S LAST NAME
AGE NUMBER DRIVER'S AGE (No decimals)
COUNTRY TEXT DRIVER'S COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
(USE TAB OR ENTER KEY TO MOVE FROM ONE AREA TO THE NEXT ONE)

4. Create a Primary Key on the field DRIVERID

5. SAVE YOUR TABLE AS: LOCATION

Answer:how to sort datasheet and how to sort tables-what is the difference pl

Hi florida2001. When you set up your table did you create a field for each item?. In other words do you have a field for 1st Name & a new field for Last name & a new field for each of the others.
If you do have separate field for each then for your (9) answer Select the Last name field & click the Filter icon from the Home view & sort descending order order. This should give you the name in the first record closest to Z.
For (11) answer Select the Age column & then in the Home view Select the Binocular icon, it will ask you to find what, so type in 32.
Hope this helps. I also use Access 2013.

The problem is that if I add music from a cd to the library it is only recognized by the computer that I did it on and not recognised by the other computer. How do I make both computers recognize all content in the library?

Thanks, Joe

Sounds to me like something in your file system got screwed. Try running through this guide. There may be a corrupt file record in the MFT that is showing something as there when there shouldnt bere.

Checking For System Corruption    Information
As with anything like this, check your system for corruption. Corruption of your system can cause a whole host of odd errors and behaviors.

Step One

Run SFC (System File Checker)
Open an admin Command Prompt and type:
Code:
sfc /scannow

This should fix any system file corruption if there is any.

Step Two

Run DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool)
Using the same Command Prompt type:
Code:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

This should fix any component store corruption.
   Note
If the sfc command fails, run this command then try Step One again. Sometimes this will fix sfc errors.

Step Three

Run CHKDSK (Disk Checker)
Using the same Command Prompt, type
Code:
chkdsk C: /scan

This will let you know if there are any errors in the file system itself. If it comes up with errors, type
Code:
chkdsk C: /F /R

This command will perform a more thorough check and attempt to fix any errors and recover any data from bad sectors (if any exist.)
   Note
Running this command will require you to restart. After restarting this will run. After it does, you will need to use the event viewer to view the log.How T... Read more

EDIT: This issue has been solved.

Hi there! This problem is slowly driving me crazy, and I'd appreciate anyone's insights.

My default Pictures library has somehow become a permanent clone of my Videos library. It's not that it's a copy of Videos, it's that both libraries have merged into the same entity. The "Pictures.library-ms" file literally does not exist; Windows is using one file and one set of options, yet displaying it as if there were two libraries. And it stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that "Pictures" can or should exist.

If I delete one of the "Videos," both links remain visible until I refresh the Explorer window, which makes them both disappear. If I try to delete one and then the other, Windows says it can't find the file (which makes sense, since the individual "Videos.library-ms" file is already gone).

If I delete all of my libraries and then select "Restore default libraries," both duplicates reappear as before. No "Pictures.library-ms" is ever created. I can manually create a new library called "Pictures," but it doesn't affect the presence of the duplicate Videos, and other applications, such as Windows Media Player, do not recognize it as the official Pictures library. (WMP only shows images in the Videos folders, and if I select "Manage Pictures library" from the WMP navigation pane, it opens the options for the Videos library.)

My libraries file, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos had developed a problem.

When I click on Pictures, the picture folders appear, but immediately below, my document files appear as folders also.

If I delete a document file in the pictures file, the document also deletes in the documents file.

If I try to move the document file from the picture file to the document file, a window says its an Identical sub folder and won't go any further.

How can I remove the folder list of documents from the picture file without destroying those documents in the document file?

I think that this problem developed as I loaded an ArcSoft program to read slides into my computer.

Thanks,

Jimbow

Answer:Documents Library also Appears in Pictures Library

Hello Jimbow, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If it's just been added to your Pictures library by mistake, then you should be able to use the tutorial below to remove it from the library without deleting the actual folder.

See this: Create New Library in Windows 10
Pictures will help understand my problem.

Create new library 3 methods. Only Method 3 works for me.
1) Explorer Library Folder: right-click -> New -> (Empty) --- Library is missing, actual text displayed is (Empty)
2) ... on ribbon : New Item --- no drop down --- does nothing. In a normal folder, it does drop down with list of types to create.

Note: on the left side if you right click on the "Library" - the same (Empty) for option New is displayed (Like Method 1 above)

Any ideas on how to fix this? I assume a registry entry or 2.. is missing or damaged.

Thanks.

Hello

We have a GPO setting "Prevent users from adding files to the root of their Users Files folder" as we do not want users to be able to add files to their Roaming User Profile.

This GPO causes an error when a New Library is attempted to be created.

Because of the error we would like to Remove the "New Library" button from the toolbar which appears when the Library item is selected in the navigation pane.

The following article is great, however I cannot find a reference to the "New Library" button.

Windows Explorer Toolbar Buttons - Customize

Could any customisation wizkids offer any advice please?

Many Thanks

Answer:Remove New Library Button in from Library Toolbar

Hello Lee,

Doing step 7 in the tutorial below to remove "New -> Library" from the context menu will not remove the "New Library" toolbar button, but it will also effectively disable it. It may be a good workaround for you.

New Context Menu - Remove & Restore Default Menu Items

Hope this helps,
