Please help solve! Windows 7 Login Error.

Question: Please help solve! Windows 7 Login Error.

I got this laptop for Christmas and it worked fine. Then i ran a Virus Scan (McAfee, It came with it), Then I shutdown the computer and went to sleep. When I got up I turned it back on and it started up, then it loaded the login screen and says "Incorrect Password" and whatnot. So I clicked OK and tried to login with my password and it doesn't work. I tried several other passwords and no password, But nothing worked. I Also tried Safemode, But it does the same thing. I tried Ophcrack, It just says there is no password.

Please, Someone help me solve this problem without having to lose any data.

Hi, my windows was set up like this:
C: windows 7
F: all user accounts inluding default user ( users folder ) are on F drive.
I imaged windows, and restored it on a different PC.
On another HDD, I assigned it as F: and put a copy of the user folders on there.

But now when it goes to log in, a profile unable to login service error comes up...!!

Is it have to do with the F drive?

Is there something other than just the Drive letter, that windows looks for when searching for the users folder to login? Like HDD id/serials or something like that?

How can I fix this, it driving me crazy for too long!!

Answer:!! Restored image of windows, now wont login, login service error!!

OK, its definitely because windows cant assign the HDD as F: because it hasn't recognized it before.

So, then, is there any way to add the HDD ID and assigned letter, to the windows registry BEFORE restoring the image ( ie before imaging)??

A runtime error is a software or hardware problem that prevents a program from working correctly. Runtime errors might cause you to lose information in the file you're working on, cause errors in the file (corrupt the file) so you can't work with it, or prevent you from using a feature. Unlike stop errors, runtime errors don't typically cause Windows or a program to stop working.
Runtime errors can occur if you are running two software programs that aren't compatible, if your computer has memory problems, or if the computer has been infected with malicious software. If a runtime error keeps occurring, follow these steps:
1. Install the latest updates for Windows and for the program displaying the error. Note that the update for the program might be listed as an optional update on the Windows Update page. Click Start button then show all programs and open Windows Update.
2. Check Action Center for a solution to the program displaying the error.
When you have Windows Error Reporting turned on and a program stops working, a problem report is typically sent to Microsoft for more analysis. If a solution is available, or there are steps you can take to minimize the likelihood of the problem recurring, they'll be available in Action Center. Click to Flag icon in Notification area to open Action Center.
3. Update and run your antivirus software. Windows doesn't come with antivirus software, but Action Center can often monitor the antivirus software that you or your ... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 Shows .DLL Error How to solve this problem Help me

Hello mkannan and welcome to Seven Forums.

When I googled msisvt32.dll I got "no results found". Whenever I see that I immediately start thinking virus or other malware. Legitimate .dll files almost always have information available about them. Suggest you run a full scan with your own updated antivirus suite. No anti-virus product is 100% effective 100% of the time (if there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) So I also recommend you scan your computer with some additional free on-demand scanners. The more scanners you use that come back "no malware found" the more likely your computer is not infected.

Windows Defender Offline

ESET Online Scanner

Kaspersky TDSSKiller

After running the malware scans I'd also check for damaged or corrupt system files. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back the results of the scans.

Recently I purchased three HP ProBook 4425s laptops. I setup the first one just the way I wanted and then captured the image using MDT 2010. After the image was captured successfully, I rebooted the laptop. After the laptop rebooted and re-setup the devices
and then a new user wizard opens up. I create a user account that didn't previously exist on the laptop. Afterwards, it brings me to that new user's desktop. Then I went to the Computer Management Local Users screen; and then I reactivated the Administrator
account. Then I logged off the computer and tried to login using that Administrator account. After clicking the login button, I get the following error:

Windows Security
HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff

That's all the error shows and the only button you can click on is the OK button. There are no additional details. I know that I'm typing the correct password because when I type the wrong password, it tells me that the username and password are invalid.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Answer:Windows 7 login error - HRESULT Error 0x8007ffff

Problem solved - no reinstallation needed.
After months of trying to figure out this problem, someone posted a solution to my question on

Experts-Exchange. This solution does not require a reinstallation of anything, if you are currently experiencing this problem. Just follow the steps below. If you're planning on capturing an image of an HP computer, I would recommend that you complete these
steps BEFORE you capture the image. But chances are, you found this because it's too late and you are having this problem now.

-Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
-Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools

Uninstal HP ProtectTools Security Manager

Hi Guys,
I've recently got an issue with loading profile settings after probably deleting one of the Admin profiles on Windows 10 Home.

I can't load:
1. The most important: Built-in Adminstrator profile: Error: " Location/Path C:/Windows/sytem32/config/systemprofile/Desktop" is unavailable. I got only empty black screen, bottom-left-hand corner windows icon doesn't show up the menu - is irresponsive. I can't do anything - eveng craetimng new folders. Only Some software work , namely BitDefender Total Security, NVidia, Intel etc

2. Fortunetely, I'ev got another Admin account which works fine. I can create new users/profiles but I get this error anytime I enter the user's profile:" a User log in failed. User's profile files cannot be loaded.

I've found the path in regestry:
It confirms that only one with thwe right path to my profile works fine. Others don't have a correct path.

I'm pretty sure this thread should be here, because technically this is a windows issue, as opposed to a linux issue (hear me out) I just installed windows XP from the disk which came with my computer to a hard disk image using qemu (a CPU emulator) in ubuntu linux. The install went smoothly, just the same as a fresh install on a real machine as opposed to a virtual one. When i came to log on, firstly it asked for a password, which seemed strange because i didn't even set a password in the installation process (i wasn't even aware you could) so I tried logging in with nothing in the password field. I was immediatly given an error message stating:

"The system cannot log you on due to the following error:

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

Please try again or consult your system administrator"

I don't even have a domain set up! is there something i can do from the recovery console if i boot from the installation disk? I'm not sure but its doubtful that this could be something to do with qemu, atleast i hope it isn't, what if i set up networking in qemu for windows to use? is it possible that windows is trying to connect to a domain on the host system (the linux one)

I'm reposting this in the linux forum aswell, as this could well be a problem from both ends of the spectrum

hope someone can help, cheers

Okay so the problem is that when you try to log on there is a 'Windows Product Activation' pop up that says: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x8007007e"

Now leading up to this error, I was trying to network two computers together, both are running Windows XP Pro... so I ran the router CD, it's just a Linksys router... went into the Networking wizard, and added a network place, *now* I changed the computer description, the computer name, and the work group... and then it said to reboot for the changes, rebooted and that was when the error started to show up.

I tried restoring to a previous checkpoint which changed back above networking changes I made but I still get that error...

So I've been through multiple onlilne forums etc, many of the fixes are relating to the windows update not working, and I've reregisterd I don't know how many .dll files, I can only log into the computer using safe mode command prompt, which I am slowly learning how to do more things in... One suggestion that haven't figure out how to do yet is reinstall the msxml parser from the command prompt.

I don't want to do a new installation if at all possible because there are files that I need to burn to DVD, and the DVD burner is on the other machine...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Ok, so I have Windows XP and it will no longer load at startup. Right before the login screen is supposed to appear, I get a message saying "Application corrupt." And that's all it says, no specific filename or anything. I've already tried a Windows Repair Install and I've tried going into the recovery console to replace some of the system files with some from the repair directory (a solution I found online) and nothing works. I can't get into Safe Mode either. I'm thinking that maybe it's not Windows that's corrupt, but just the stupid login screen (which I never used anyway). I really don't want to do a full Windows reinstall because my hard drive contents are extremely important to me, so is there any possible way to repair or disable the Windows login screen from the recovery console? Please help ASAP, I've been trying for like 2 weeks to fix it!

Answer:Windows XP Login Error

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable and do the following:

REGISTRY WARNING: The details that follow require an above-average understanding of the technical topics involved. If you do not understand the Registry material presented here, either find a technically-knowledgeable friend or do not attempt to repair your system Registry yourself. Improper changes in the System Registry can render all data on your hard disk inaccessible.

I hope you have the Windows software for this machine.

Hi, I just discovered a problem with vista. I recently installed an outstanding software known as TuneUp Utilities 2009, I then used it to customize my computer login screen, I made a modification such that on startup or when no one is logged (i.e. when the login screen is displayed), in case there has been no activity for 10 minutes, vista's built in bubble screensaver begins to run. Unfortunately, when I tested this modification out, I noticed a screensaver error stating that "direct3d 9.0 is required to run this screensaver and can't be found on your computer", so I logged in and tried running the screensaver again and it worked perfectly.
Why is it not working on the login screen but it works on the desktop screen? How do I confirm the version of direct x I have installed, because I recently made an update on my direct x, I tried updating it to 10.XXX and the same problem is still occurring. Please reply asap.

Answer:login error, screensaver can't run on login screen, Direct X 9.0 not recognized

From what i remember, within DOS, unc paths aren't supported (i don't think they have been ever).

If you used the Magic Jelly Bean to "make it genuine" by changing the Product Key to one that is legit, then your XP is not "pirate". It's legit, although the data that you used might be infected, etc...Hopefully that saves your thread from being closed.I think it's possible to repair a Windows Genuine function, but don't know how to do it. It looks like your "pirated" software has the copyright protection disabled, and you need it working to validate your legal Product Key.I'd suggest doing a Repair Install with a basic OEM Installation Disk. Hopefully it will accept your Product Key. If that fails, and you have a Product Key it will accept, you can change it via MJB, and then pass the Genuine Advantage check.Maybe.Good luck. You know you are WAY out in the weeds, right ?

I just received my PC from I created my user accounts and i had some problems, basically i have 2 of the same accounts on the vista login screen, initially it is one account icon, but when i hit switch users it shows 2 of the same accounts. When i go to manage user accounts it only shows one account along with the guest. Also first thing when i turn on the PC before the login screen, i get "error, invalid user name or password" even though i have not entered anything yet. it may be trying to automatically login, i'm not sure, if so how do i turn that off. Anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks!

Answer:2 identical profiles at login, and login error on startup.

See the tutorials on managing user accounts in the Tutorials forum. It shows how to turn password on and off, set up Administrator account etc..

Did the machine come with OS preinstalled or are you installing from a Vista disc? If you don't need the stuff on the machine you can wipe clean(if you have the Vista install disc that is.) Otherwise you'll just have to mess around with account settings.

The quick fix might be if you have a restore point dated before all this crap started happening.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro. I installed Windows 10 but was not able to get past login due to 10 not recognizing my password. Restored Windows 7 Pro with MS Supt. assistance. Now when I boot up and login to my desktop I get an error ....RUN DLL  "There
was a problem starting C:\Windows\system32\nvHotkey.dll  The specified module could not be found."  My only option there is to click "OK".  I don't know what problem this is causing. ....I did discover that my Windows Media Center
will not record TV now and it did before trying to install Windows 10.

Folks, I'm on 14342, installed when it came out. If you recall, there was subsequently an update to the windows store, which was widely reported to be failing. Also widely reported was that Microsoft knows about it, and would post a fix, which they did, and I installed it. Now I cannot log in to the Windows Store, I get the error in the pic below. I've restarted my computer, and I am in fact logging on with my Windows account. Any guidance? (sorry for the multiple pics, I tried different sizes. I only see 1 pic when editing. <sigh>)

Hi! I have 2 PC at home and would like to network them together so i could share the resources between them. But i could only manage to setup 'one way' - the XP Home could access the Windows 7 Ultimate but not the other way :-/

Whenever i double click on the XP Home, it will prompt me to login. But no matter what i enter, it will say its wrong. What weird is the 'domain'. The login dialog will show that im login into 'Domain: Windows7PC' when im trying to login into the XP. And after i have enter 'wrongly', it will show the username as 'Windows7PC\username' and ask to try again - it means im login into the Windows 7 And if i try to prefix the PC's name in front - \\WindowsXP\username then it will prompt \\WindowsXP is not accessible..... The specified username is invalid

Here is my 'settings'-
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Windows XP Home SP3
Both is on the same Workgroup/IPGroup/Netmask
Both has File & Printer Sharing Enabled
Have patch XP with KB922120v6
Have Shared 2 folders on XP
Changing the XP's NetBIOS over TCP/IP & Starting the Computer Browser Service(but change back to default after finding out its not helping)
Create a share account with same name and password on both ends
No third party firewall on both side(only Avast free). And have disabled Windows XP firewall but with same result

Please advice. Thank you.

I just had to reinstall Windows XP Home. After installation, it doesn't let me log in, instead it gives me the following error message "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." It does this whether I leave the password box blank or not. I have started it up in safe mode, and the same thing occurs both with my account and the administrator account.

Is there anything to change the "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found." error message?

We have a large number of computer accounts we disable for capacity purposes and it fluxuates from month to month. We usuaully disable the account but then this error comes up and people will put in problem tickets on these machines.

We want to avoid the calls by making a custom message and I can't find where this can be modified.

These are STOP 0x124 errors - which are generated by the CPU and then reported to Windows. Not very easy to read.

That being said, they are most often related to hardware failures or compatibility issues.
Have you run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (free here: ) to see if that's an issue?

Have you added any new hardware/software recently that might be causing a problem?

Question: Solve Backup Error

Using Backup & Restore, this is the third night I got backup errors (red X), but the first time I saw the message.

"Backup failed on shadow copy on source volume got deleted. Might be caused by high write activity on the volume.
retry backup.. Consider increasing shadow copy storage using VSSADMIN resize shadow storage command.
Error code 0x80780169."

Retrying will be futile. Somebody suggested increasing the volume to 15%. There is very little information online.
Any suggestions? Should I increase the volume? I have never gotten this message in the years that I have been using Backup & Restore.

I am just supposed to be backing up my files; not creating an image, unless it copies to the disk regardless of what I choose to send to external drive.

In Event Viewer there were at least a half-dozen messages that the oldest volume was deleted. According to "Manage your space," I think I have one image on the drive and another image in backup, but I don't know if I can trust the info.

Thank you.

Answer:What is the watchdog error and is there a way to solve it ?

A watchdog is a piece of code in Windows that measures the execution time of commands. If a critical command takes too long to execute, Windows will generate this code. It is generally caused by hardware-related issues with critical components such as an SSD or core drivers.

I tries to set automatic login to windows XP.
1. In the Run text box, type control userpasswords2 and click OK
2.Uncheck the checkbox that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.":
3.When the dialogue box pops up, type in your username and password (if you do not have a password, leave it blank)

The system did not have a password, so I let the username and password fields blank when it prompted me for it.

Now when I restart, it does not let me login saying "System cannot log you in. Please check the domain....."

Out of the blue, I am getting a BSOD literally every time I log into Windows starting today. I can only run Windows successfully and without problems in Safe Mode (which I'm running right now). I have not changed any hardware as of late, nor did I change any system settings. All my hardware is running at stock settings (XMP is enabled).

I've followed the procedure listed in the "Posting Instructions"-thread, so you'll find a .zip with the needed information as an attachment. You will need the dumps of today, june 20th. The other ones are older and not relevant anymore. You can find my systems specs in my profile, if needed.

I am having a persistent BSOD when I try login to Windows 7 using my login credentials. If I run Windows in Safe Mode, there is no issue.

I've attached the ZIP from the SF Diagnostic Tool.

Answer:BSOD on login to Windows 7 Pro SP1 (Registry Error) 0x00000051

Welcome to 7F .

The bug checks are all identical.

Arg1: 0000000000000001
Arg2: fffff8a000024010
Arg3: 0000000002a1b000
Arg4: 0000000000000374

Something has gone badly wrong with the registry. If a kernel debugger
is available, get a stack trace. It can also indicate that the registry got
an I/O error while trying to read one of its files, so it can be caused by
hardware problems or filesystem corruption.
It may occur due to a failure in a refresh operation, which is used only
in by the security system, and then only when resource limits are encountered.
By calling the RAW Stack we can get a better sense as to who might be the culprit.

I was searching through forums on google ......for this type of situation....I found alot of people with the same problem..,....the one I heard that would work is using FixPolicies.exe........but the problem is when I use that I can install it and everything ....but I cant seem to open the folder .....and that Restriction message comes up again when I try to open the folder ....soooo I really dont know what to do......I must figure a way to get into my documents...

Im running on Windows XP ...and yes I am the system adminstator as well...I have scanned my computer ....I had 5 trojans detected.....they have been removed.......

Any HELP!!! would be Great..ASAP ...... in a total jam right now.. ..I hope I dont lose any of the files im my documents.

Answer:Impossible Restriction Error - Need Help How to Solve

Hi studyhard4life and welcome to TSF !

Your restriction issues are probably caused by the trojans or by the fact that you removed them. An antivirus will detect and quarantine infected files but it won't revert the changes those files made to your system. A malware infection rarely comes alone so there are probably remnants or other malwares on your system.

Please follow these 5 steps and read the instructions carefully :
Post and attach your final logs in a new thread in the HJT section. Be patient as that section is very busy, the security analysts will get back to you with specific instructions as soon as they'll have reviewed your logs.

A STOP 0x124 error is an error that's identified by your hardware - which then notifies Windows about it. In most cases it's a hardware failure or an incompatibility.

- check to ensure that your BIOS and drivers are updated to the latest versions
- if you've been inside the case recently - go back in and reseat everything (I got a STOP 0x124 because of this yesterday).
- Run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor to see if it pinpoints any possible compatibilty errors (free from here:

The memory dump file(s) will be used to see if there's any other issues, and to see what older drivers are loaded when the crash occurs.

I'm a newbie here- excuse me if I don't know all the protocols around here, I'll try to pick them up quickly.

Anyway- here are the details on my PC:

Compaq Presario 5WV280
900 mhz AMD athlon
Windows ME

256 MB RAM
30 GB HD
56k modem

Machine is pretty much as setup from Compaq, except we added 128MB RAM a couple of weeks ago for a total of 256 MB- no problems after that install. We also recently replaced the modem, the original modem died and it was replaced with a Diamond multimedia Supramax 56i PCI that my brother gave me. No problems with that after we got it installed + running.
The problem came up about a week after the modem replacement + RAM install.

I am using Netzero Dialup as my ISP.

The problem I am having is this. My PC is in (what I think is) Safe mode- low resolution display, giving me Error 24 "Display driver error". It tells me that I need to reinstall the display driver, or install an upgraded driver, because the current driver is either damaged or not correctly installed. It then prompts me to the "Installation wizard" to find a better driver- but when I go thru that procedure, it says I already have the best driver installed.

When I try to remove the display driver (thinking it might work to remove + then reinstall), it begins to go thru the process, then the system freezes- every time. I tried the HP/Compaq online tech chat, but they were not very helpful- everything they suggest... Read more

Answer:Display error 24 - unable to solve...

What video card is in the machine? What have you tried? A typical test would be to remove the modem and ram again to see if that works. Optionally, theres a slim chance the video card went bad. If its onboard and using shared memory, I would suspect the ram. If its not onboard, maybe try another card. Problems like this require trial and error of removing hardware until you can narrow down the culprit.

Answer:How to solve a Securityrisk.downldr error?

Please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.

What DSS will do: create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Do I wanted to know if anyone can help me to fix the error 0x800f081f Dism/online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth?

Thanks a lot.
Best regards.

Answer:How to solve the error 0x800f081f Dism?

For Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012

To resolve this problem, use the inbox Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. Then, install the Windows update or service pack again.
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search. Type Command Prompt in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.Type the following command, and then press Enter.
It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Important When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions. However, if your Windows Update client is already broken, use a running Windows installation as the repair source, or use a Windows side-by-side folder from a network share or from a removable media, such as the Windows DVD, as the source of the files. To do this, run the following command instead: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess
Note Replace the C:\RepairSource\Windows placeholder with the location of your repair source. For more information about using the DISM tool to repair Windows... Read more

I read about connection 45 & 47 pins to resolve "ide #1 error" and my question...
how change c-sel/slave mode in diffrent way (without connecting pins)?
I just bought liteon dvd-rw drive (sosw-833s 51c) and install into satellite 1410-304 and my laptop don't work with this drive (at startup "ide #1 error", os don't see drive)

Answer:Satellite 1410-304: How to solve IDE #1 error?

I think, there is no other option (i would also not recommend to change the pin assignment).
You should have asked your Servicepartner what drive's are supported on the type of Notebook, he know's about it ..... I'm sorry to say, but you should have a look before you bought the drive.

Br, Ben
